He also walked in the ways of the house of
Ahab: for his mother
was his counsellor to do wickedly.
Ahaziah also walked in the ways of the house of
Ahab, for his mother
was his
counselor in wickedness.
And he returned to be
healed in
Jezreel because of the wounds which were given him at
Ramah, when he fought with
Hazael king of Syria. And
Azariah the son of Jehoram king of Judah went down to see Jehoram the son of
Ahab at
Jezreel, because he
was sick.
so he returned to
Jezreel to recover from the wounds they had inflicted on him at
Ramah when he fought against
Hazael king of
Aram. Then
Ahaziah son of Jehoram king of Judah went down to
Jezreel to visit
Joram son of
Ahab, because
Joram had been wounded.
And the destruction of
Ahaziah was of God by coming to
Joram: for when he
was come, he went out with Jehoram against
Jehu the son of Nimshi, whom the LORD had
anointed to cut off the house of
Ahab.
And it came to pass, that, when
Jehu was executing judgment upon the house of
Ahab, and found the princes of Judah, and the sons of the brethren of
Ahaziah, that ministered to
Ahaziah, he
slew them.
So while
Jehu was executing judgment on the house of
Ahab, he found the rulers of Judah and the sons of
Ahaziah’s brothers who were serving
Ahaziah, and he killed them.
And he sought
Ahaziah: and they caught him, (for he
was hid in Samaria,) and brought him to
Jehu: and when they had slain him, they buried him: Because, said they, he is the son of
Jehoshaphat, who sought the LORD with all his heart. So the house of
Ahaziah had no power to keep still the kingdom.
Then
Jehu looked for
Ahaziah, and
Jehu’s soldiers captured him while he
was hiding in Samaria. So
Ahaziah was brought to
Jehu and put to death. They buried him, for they said, “He is the grandson of
Jehoshaphat, who sought the LORD with all his heart.” So no one
was left from the house of
Ahaziah with the strength to rule the kingdom.
But when
Athaliah the mother of
Ahaziah saw that her son
was dead, she arose and destroyed all the seed royal of the house of Judah.
When
Athaliah the mother of
Ahaziah saw that her son
was dead, she proceeded to
annihilate all the royal heirs of the house of Judah.
But Jehoshabeath, the daughter of the king, took
Joash the son of
Ahaziah, and
stole him from among the king’s sons that were slain, and put him and his
nurse in a
bedchamber. So Jehoshabeath, the daughter of king Jehoram, the wife of Jehoiada the priest, (for she
was the sister of
Ahaziah,)
hid him from
Athaliah, so that she
slew him not.
But Jehoshabeath daughter of King Jehoram took
Joash son of
Ahaziah and
stole him away from among the sons of the king who were being murdered, and she put him and his
nurse in a
bedroom. Because Jehoshabeath, the daughter of King Jehoram and the wife of Jehoiada the priest,
was Ahaziah’s sister, she
hid Joash from
Athaliah so that she could not kill him.
And he
was with them
hid in the house of God six years: and
Athaliah reigned over the land.
And
Joash remained hidden with them in the house of God for six years while
Athaliah ruled the land.
So they laid hands on her; and when she
was come to the entering of the horse gate by the king’s house, they
slew her there.
So they seized
Athaliah as she reached the entrance of the Horse Gate to the palace grounds, and there they put her to death.
Also Jehoiada appointed the offices of the house of the LORD by the hand of the priests the Levites, whom David had distributed in the house of the LORD, to offer the burnt offerings of the LORD, as it is written in the law of Moses, with
rejoicing and with singing, as it
was ordained by David.
Moreover, Jehoiada put the oversight of the house of the LORD into the hands of the
Levitical priests, whom David had appointed over the house of the LORD, to offer burnt offerings to the LORD as is written in the Law of Moses, with
rejoicing and song, as ordained by David.
And he set the
porters at the gates of the house of the LORD, that none which
was unclean in any thing should enter in.
He stationed gatekeepers at the gates of the house of the LORD, so that nothing unclean could enter for any reason.
And all the people of the land
rejoiced: and the city
was quiet, after that they had slain
Athaliah with the sword.
and all the people of the land
rejoiced. And the city
was quiet, because
Athaliah had been put to the sword.
Joash was seven years old when he began to reign, and he reigned forty years in Jerusalem. His mother’s name also
was Zibiah of Beer-
sheba.
Joash was seven years old when he became king, and he reigned in Jerusalem forty years. His mother’s name
was Zibiah; she
was from
Beersheba.
And
Joash did that which
was right in the sight of the LORD all the days of Jehoiada the priest.
And
Joash did what
was right in the eyes of the LORD all the days of Jehoiada the priest.
And it came to pass after this, that
Joash was minded to repair the house of the LORD.
Some time later,
Joash set his heart on repairing the house of the LORD.
And at the king’s commandment they made a chest, and set it without at the gate of the house of the LORD.
At the king’s command a chest was made and placed outside, at the gate of the house of the LORD.
And they made a
proclamation through Judah and Jerusalem, to bring in to the LORD the collection that Moses the servant of God laid upon Israel in the wilderness.
And a
proclamation was issued in Judah and Jerusalem that they were to bring to the LORD the tax imposed by Moses the servant of God on Israel in the wilderness.
And all the princes and all the people
rejoiced, and brought in, and cast into the chest, until they had made an end.
All the officers and all the people
rejoiced and brought their contributions, and they dropped them in the chest until it
was full.
Now it came to pass, that at what time the chest
was brought unto the king’s office by the hand of the Levites, and when they saw that there
was much money, the king’s
scribe and the high priest’s officer came and
emptied the chest, and took it, and carried it to his place again. Thus they did day by day, and gathered money in abundance.
Whenever the chest
was brought by the Levites to the king’s overseers and they saw that there
was a large amount of money, the royal
scribe and the officer of the high priest would come and empty the chest and carry it back to its place. They did this daily and gathered the money in abundance.
So the workmen wrought, and the work was perfected by them, and they set the house of God in his state, and strengthened it.
So the workmen labored, and in their hands the repair work progressed. They restored the house of God according to its specifications, and they
reinforced it.
But Jehoiada waxed old, and was full of days when he died; an hundred and thirty years old was he when he died.
When Jehoiada was old and full of years, he died at the age of 130.
And they buried him in the city of David among the kings, because he had done good in Israel, both toward God, and toward his house.
And Jehoiada was buried with the kings in the City of David, because he had done what was good in Israel for God and His temple.
For the army of the Syrians came with a small company of men, and the LORD delivered a very great host into their hand, because they had
forsaken the LORD God of their fathers. So they executed judgment against
Joash.
Although the
Aramean army had come with only a few men, the LORD delivered into their hand a very great army. Because Judah had
forsaken the LORD, the God of their fathers, judgment
was executed on
Joash.
And when they were departed from him, (for they left him in great diseases,) his own servants
conspired against him for the blood of the sons of Jehoiada the priest, and
slew him on his bed, and he died: and they buried him in the city of David, but they buried him not in the
sepulchres of the kings.
And when the Arameans had withdrawn, they left
Joash severely wounded. His own servants
conspired against him for
shedding the blood of the son of Jehoiada the priest, and they killed him on his bed. So he died and
was buried in the City of David, but not in the tombs of the kings.
Amaziah was twenty and five years old when he began to reign, and he reigned twenty and nine years in Jerusalem. And his mother’s name
was Jehoaddan of Jerusalem.
Amaziah was twenty-five years old when he became king, and he reigned in Jerusalem twenty-nine years. His mother’s name
was Jehoaddan; she
was from Jerusalem.
And he did that which was right in the sight of the LORD, but not with a perfect heart.
And he did what was right in the eyes of the LORD, but not wholeheartedly.
Now it came to pass, when the kingdom
was established to him, that he
slew his servants that had killed the king his father.
As soon as the kingdom
was firmly in his
grasp,
Amaziah executed the servants who had murdered his father the king.
Then
Amaziah separated them, to wit, the army that
was come to him out of Ephraim, to go home again: wherefore their anger
was greatly
kindled against Judah, and they returned home in great anger.
So
Amaziah dismissed the troops who had come to him from Ephraim and sent them home. And they were
furious with Judah and returned home in great anger.
Now it came to pass, after that
Amaziah was come from the slaughter of the Edomites, that he brought the gods of the children of
Seir, and set them up to be his gods, and bowed down himself before them, and burned incense unto them.
When
Amaziah returned from the slaughter of the Edomites, he brought back the gods of the Seirites, set them up as his own gods, bowed before them, and burned sacrifices to them.
Wherefore the anger of the LORD
was kindled against
Amaziah, and he sent unto him a prophet, which said unto him, Why hast thou sought after the gods of the people, which could not deliver their own people out of thine hand?
Therefore the anger of the LORD burned against
Amaziah, and He sent him a prophet, who said, “Why have you sought this people’s gods, which could not deliver them from your hand?”
And it came to pass, as he talked with him, that the king said unto him, Art thou made of the king’s counsel?
forbear; why shouldest thou be
smitten? Then the prophet
forbare, and said, I know that God hath determined to destroy thee, because thou hast done this, and hast not
hearkened unto my counsel.
While he
was still speaking, the king asked, “Have we made you the
counselor to the king? Stop! Why be struck down?” So the prophet stopped, but he said, “I know that God has determined to destroy you, because you have done this and have not
heeded my advice.”
And Judah was put to the worse before Israel, and they fled every man to his tent.
And Judah was routed before Israel, and every man fled to his own home.
Now after the time that
Amaziah did turn away from following the LORD they made a
conspiracy against him in Jerusalem; and he fled to
Lachish: but they sent to
Lachish after him, and
slew him there.
From the time that
Amaziah turned from following the LORD, a
conspiracy was formed against him in Jerusalem, and he fled to
Lachish. But men were sent after him to
Lachish, and they killed him there.
Then all the people of Judah took Uzziah, who
was sixteen years old, and made him king in the room of his father
Amaziah.
All the people of Judah took Uzziah, who
was sixteen years old, and made him king in place of his father
Amaziah.
He built Eloth, and restored it to Judah, after that the king
slept with his fathers.
Uzziah
was the one who rebuilt Eloth and restored it to Judah after King
Amaziah rested with his fathers.
Sixteen years old was Uzziah when he began to reign, and he reigned fifty and two years in Jerusalem. His mother’s name also was Jecoliah of Jerusalem.
Uzziah was sixteen years old when he became king, and he reigned in Jerusalem fifty-two years. His mother’s name was Jecoliah; she was from Jerusalem.
And he did that which
was right in the sight of the LORD, according to all that his father
Amaziah did.
And he did what
was right in the eyes of the LORD, just as his father
Amaziah had done.
Also he built towers in the desert, and
digged many wells: for he had much cattle, both in the low country, and in the plains:
husbandmen also, and vine dressers in the mountains, and in
Carmel: for he loved
husbandry.
Since he had much
livestock in the foothills and in the plain, he built towers in the desert and
dug many cisterns. And since he
was a lover of the soil, he had farmers and vinedressers in the hill country and in the fertile fields.
The whole number of the chief of the fathers of the mighty men of valour were two thousand and six hundred.
The total number of family leaders of the mighty men of
valor was 2,600.
And under their hand was an army, three hundred thousand and seven thousand and five hundred, that made war with mighty power, to help the king against the enemy.
Under their authority was an army of 307,500 trained for war, a powerful force to support the king against his enemies.
And he made in Jerusalem engines, invented by
cunning men, to be on the towers and upon the bulwarks, to shoot arrows and great stones
withal. And his name spread far abroad; for he
was marvellously helped, till he
was strong.
And in Jerusalem he made
skillfully designed devices to shoot arrows and
catapult large stones from the towers and corners. So his fame spread far and wide, for he
was helped
tremendously so that he became powerful.
But when he
was strong, his heart
was lifted up to his destruction: for he
transgressed against the LORD his God, and went into the temple of the LORD to burn incense upon the altar of incense.
But when Uzziah grew powerful, his
arrogance led to his own destruction. He
was unfaithful to the LORD his God, for he entered the temple of the LORD to burn incense on the altar of incense.
Then Uzziah
was wroth, and had a
censer in his hand to burn incense: and while he
was wroth with the priests, the
leprosy even rose up in his
forehead before the priests in the house of the LORD, from beside the incense altar.
Uzziah, with a
censer in his hand to offer incense,
was enraged. But while he
raged against the priests in their presence in the house of the LORD before the altar of incense,
leprosy broke out on his
forehead.
And
Azariah the chief priest, and all the priests, looked upon him, and, behold, he
was leprous in his
forehead, and they thrust him out from thence;
yea, himself hasted also to go out, because the LORD had
smitten him.
And Uzziah the king
was a
leper unto the day of his death, and dwelt in a several house, being a
leper; for he
was cut off from the house of the LORD: and Jotham his son
was over the king’s house, judging the people of the land.
So King Uzziah
was a
leper until the day of his death. He lived in
isolation,
leprous and cut off from the house of the LORD, while his son Jotham had charge of the royal palace to
govern the people of the land.
So Uzziah
slept with his fathers, and they buried him with his fathers in the field of the burial which belonged to the kings; for they said, He is a
leper: and Jotham his son reigned in his
stead.
And Uzziah rested with his fathers and
was buried near them in a field of burial that belonged to the kings; for the people said, “He
was a
leper.” And his son Jotham reigned in his place.
Jotham
was twenty and five years old when he began to reign, and he reigned sixteen years in Jerusalem. His mother’s name also
was Jerushah, the daughter of
Zadok.
Jotham
was twenty-five years old when he became king, and he reigned in Jerusalem sixteen years. His mother’s name
was Jerushah daughter of
Zadok.
And he did that which
was right in the sight of the LORD, according to all that his father Uzziah did:
howbeit he entered not into the temple of the LORD. And the people did yet corruptly.
And he did what
was right in the eyes of the LORD, just as his father Uzziah had done. In addition, he did not enter the temple of the LORD. But the people still
behaved corruptly.
He was five and twenty years old when he began to reign, and reigned sixteen years in Jerusalem.
He was twenty-five years old when he became king, and he reigned in Jerusalem sixteen years.
And Jotham
slept with his fathers, and they buried him in the city of David: and
Ahaz his son reigned in his
stead.
And Jotham rested with his fathers and
was buried in the City of David. And his son
Ahaz reigned in his place.
Ahaz was twenty years old when he began to reign, and he reigned sixteen years in Jerusalem: but he did not that which
was right in the sight of the LORD, like David his father:
Ahaz was twenty years old when he became king, and he reigned in Jerusalem sixteen years. And unlike David his father, he did not do what
was right in the eyes of the LORD.
Wherefore the LORD his God delivered him into the hand of the king of Syria; and they
smote him, and carried away a great multitude of them
captives, and brought them to Damascus. And he
was also delivered into the hand of the king of Israel, who
smote him with a great slaughter.
So the LORD his God delivered
Ahaz into the hand of the king of
Aram, who attacked him and took many
captives to Damascus.
Ahaz was also delivered into the hand of the king of Israel, who struck him with great force.
And Zichri, a mighty man of Ephraim,
slew Maaseiah the king’s son, and Azrikam the governor of the house, and Elkanah that
was next to the king.
Zichri, a mighty man of Ephraim, killed Maaseiah the son of the king, Azrikam the governor of the palace, and Elkanah the second to the king.
But a prophet of the LORD
was there, whose name
was Oded: and he went out before the host that came to Samaria, and said unto them, Behold, because the LORD God of your fathers
was wroth with Judah, he hath delivered them into your hand, and ye have slain them in a
rage that reacheth up unto heaven.
But a prophet of the LORD named
Oded was there, and he went out to meet the army that returned to Samaria. “Look,” he said to them, “because of His wrath against Judah, the LORD, the God of your fathers, has delivered them into your hand. But you have slaughtered them in a
rage that reaches up to heaven.
And
Ahaz slept with his fathers, and they buried him in the city, even in Jerusalem: but they brought him not into the
sepulchres of the kings of Israel: and
Hezekiah his son reigned in his
stead.
And
Ahaz rested with his fathers and
was buried in the city of Jerusalem, but he
was not placed in the tombs of the kings of Israel. And his son
Hezekiah reigned in his place.
Hezekiah began to reign when he
was five and twenty years old, and he reigned nine and twenty years in Jerusalem. And his mother’s name
was Abijah, the daughter of
Zechariah.
Hezekiah was twenty-five years old when he became king, and he reigned in Jerusalem twenty-nine years. His mother’s name
was Abijah, the daughter of
Zechariah.
And he did that which was right in the sight of the LORD, according to all that David his father had done.
And he did what was right in the eyes of the LORD, just as his father David had done.
For our fathers have
trespassed, and done that which
was evil in the eyes of the LORD our God, and have
forsaken him, and have turned away their faces from the
habitation of the LORD, and turned their backs.
For our fathers were unfaithful and did evil in the sight of the LORD our God. They abandoned Him, turned their faces away from the dwelling place of the LORD, and turned their backs on Him.
Wherefore the wrath of the LORD
was upon Judah and Jerusalem, and he hath delivered them to trouble, to
astonishment, and to
hissing, as ye see with your eyes.
Therefore, the wrath of the LORD has fallen upon Judah and Jerusalem, and He has made them an object of terror,
horror, and
mockery, as you can see with your own eyes.
And he set the Levites in the house of the LORD with cymbals, with
psalteries, and with harps, according to the commandment of David, and of
Gad the king’s
seer, and
Nathan the prophet: for so
was the commandment of the LORD by his prophets.
Hezekiah stationed the Levites in the house of the LORD with cymbals, harps, and lyres according to the command of David, of
Gad the king’s
seer, and of
Nathan the prophet. For the command had come from the LORD through His prophets.
And all the congregation worshipped, and the singers
sang, and the trumpeters sounded: and all this continued until the burnt offering
was finished.
The whole assembly was worshiping, the singers were singing, and the trumpeters were playing. All this continued until the burnt offering was completed.
And the number of the burnt offerings, which the congregation brought,
was threescore and ten bullocks, an hundred rams, and two hundred lambs: all these were for a burnt offering to the LORD.
The number of burnt offerings the assembly brought was seventy bulls, a hundred rams, and two hundred lambs; all these were for a burnt offering to the LORD.
But the priests were too few, so that they could not
flay all the burnt offerings: wherefore their brethren the Levites did help them, till the work
was ended, and until the other priests had
sanctified themselves: for the Levites were more upright in heart to
sanctify themselves than the priests.
However, since there were not enough priests to skin all the burnt offerings, their
Levite brothers helped them until the work
was finished and until the priests had been consecrated. For the Levites had been more
diligent in
consecrating themselves than the priests had been.
And also the burnt offerings were in abundance, with the fat of the peace offerings, and the drink offerings for every burnt offering. So the service of the house of the LORD was set in order.
Furthermore, the burnt offerings were abundant, along with the fat of the peace offerings and the drink offerings for the burnt offerings. So the service of the house of the LORD
was established.
And
Hezekiah rejoiced, and all the people, that God had prepared the people: for the thing
was done suddenly.
Then
Hezekiah and all the people
rejoiced at what God had prepared for the people, because everything had been accomplished so quickly.
So they established a decree to make
proclamation throughout all Israel, from Beer-
sheba even to
Dan, that they should come to keep the
passover unto the LORD God of Israel at Jerusalem: for they had not done it of a long time in such sort as it
was written.
So they established a decree to
circulate a
proclamation throughout Israel, from
Beersheba to
Dan, that the people should come to keep the
Passover of the LORD, the God of Israel, in Jerusalem. For they had not observed it as a nation as prescribed.
Also in Judah the hand of God was to give them one heart to do the commandment of the king and of the princes, by the word of the LORD.
Moreover, the power of God was on the people in Judah to give them one heart to obey the command of the king and his officials according to the word of the LORD.
For there were many in the congregation that were not
sanctified: therefore the Levites had the charge of the killing of the passovers for every one that
was not clean, to
sanctify them unto the LORD.
Since there were many in the assembly who had not consecrated themselves, the Levites were in charge of slaughtering the
Passover lambs for every unclean person to
consecrate the lambs to the LORD.
So there was great joy in Jerusalem: for since the time of Solomon the son of David king of Israel there was not the like in Jerusalem.
So there
was great
rejoicing in Jerusalem, for nothing like this had happened there since the days of Solomon son of David king of Israel.
Then the priests the Levites arose and blessed the people: and their voice was heard, and their prayer came up to his holy dwelling place, even unto heaven.
Then the priests and the Levites stood to
bless the people, and God heard their voice, and their prayer came into His holy dwelling place in heaven.
Now when all this
was finished, all Israel that were present went out to the cities of Judah, and
brake the images in pieces, and cut down the groves, and threw down the high places and the altars out of all Judah and Benjamin, in Ephraim also and
Manasseh, until they had utterly destroyed them all. Then all the children of Israel returned, every man to his possession, into their own cities.
When all this had ended, the Israelites in attendance went out to the cities of Judah and broke up the sacred pillars,
chopped down the Asherah poles, and
tore down the high places and altars throughout Judah and Benjamin, as well as in Ephraim and
Manasseh, until they had utterly destroyed them all. Then all the Israelites returned to their cities, each to his own property.
And brought in the offerings and the
tithes and the dedicated things faithfully: over which Cononiah the
Levite was ruler, and Shimei his brother
was the next.
And they faithfully brought in the contributions,
tithes, and dedicated gifts. Conaniah the
Levite was the officer in charge of them, and his brother Shimei
was second.
And Kore the son of Imnah the
Levite, the porter toward the east,
was over the
freewill offerings of God, to distribute the oblations of the LORD, and the most holy things.
Kore son of Imnah the
Levite, the keeper of the East Gate,
was in charge of the
freewill offerings given to God, distributing the contributions to the LORD and the consecrated gifts.
And thus did
Hezekiah throughout all Judah, and wrought that which
was good and right and truth before the LORD his God.
So this is what
Hezekiah did throughout Judah. He did what
was good and upright and true before the LORD his God.
And in every work that he began in the service of the house of God, and in the law, and in the commandments, to seek his God, he did it with all his heart, and
prospered.
He
was diligent in every work that he began in the service of the house of God, and in the law and the commandments, in order to seek his God. And so he
prospered.
And when
Hezekiah saw that
Sennacherib was come, and that he
was purposed to fight against Jerusalem,
So there
was gathered much people together, who stopped all the fountains, and the
brook that ran through the midst of the land, saying, Why should the kings of Assyria come, and find much water?
Many people assembled and stopped up all the springs and the stream that flowed through the land. “Why should the kings of Assyria come and find
plenty of water?” they said.
Also he strengthened himself, and built up all the wall that
was broken, and raised it up to the towers, and another wall without, and repaired
Millo in the city of David, and made darts and shields in abundance.
Then
Hezekiah worked
resolutely to rebuild all the broken sections of the wall and to raise up towers on it. He also built an outer wall and
reinforced the supporting terraces of the City of David, and he produced an abundance of weapons and shields.
Who was there among all the gods of those nations that my fathers utterly destroyed, that could deliver his people out of mine hand, that your God should be able to deliver you out of mine hand?
Who among all the gods of these nations that my fathers devoted to destruction has been able to deliver his people from my hand? How then can your God deliver you from my hand?
Now therefore let not
Hezekiah deceive you, nor
persuade you on this manner, neither yet believe him: for no god of any nation or kingdom
was able to deliver his people out of mine hand, and out of the hand of my fathers: how much less shall your God deliver you out of mine hand?
So now, do not let
Hezekiah deceive you, and do not let him mislead you like this. Do not believe him, for no god of any nation or kingdom has been able to deliver his people from my hand or from the hand of my fathers. How much less will your God deliver you from my hand!”
And the LORD sent an angel, which cut off all the mighty men of valour, and the leaders and captains in the camp of the king of Assyria. So he returned with shame of face to his own land. And when he
was come into the house of his god, they that came forth of his own
bowels slew him there with the sword.
and the LORD sent an angel who
annihilated every mighty man of
valor and every leader and commander in the camp of the king of Assyria. So he withdrew to his own land in disgrace. And when he entered the temple of his god, some of his own sons struck him down with the sword.
And many brought gifts unto the LORD to Jerusalem, and presents to
Hezekiah king of Judah: so that he
was magnified in the sight of all nations from
thenceforth.
Many brought offerings to Jerusalem for the LORD and valuable gifts for
Hezekiah king of Judah, and from then on he
was exalted in the eyes of all nations.
In those days
Hezekiah was sick to the death, and prayed unto the LORD: and he spake unto him, and he gave him a sign.
In those days
Hezekiah became
mortally ill. So he prayed to the LORD, who spoke to him and gave him a sign.
But
Hezekiah rendered not again according to the benefit done unto him; for his heart
was lifted up: therefore there
was wrath upon him, and upon Judah and Jerusalem.
But because his heart
was proud,
Hezekiah did not repay the favor shown to him. Therefore wrath came upon him and upon Judah and Jerusalem.
This same
Hezekiah also stopped the upper watercourse of
Gihon, and brought it straight down to the west side of the city of David. And
Hezekiah prospered in all his works.
It
was Hezekiah who blocked the upper outlet of the Spring of
Gihon and channeled it down to the west side of the City of David. And
Hezekiah prospered in all that he did.
Howbeit in the business of the ambassadors of the princes of Babylon, who sent unto him to
enquire of the wonder that
was done in the land, God left him, to try him, that he might know all that
was in his heart.
And so when ambassadors of the rulers of Babylon were sent to him to inquire about the wonder that had happened in the land, God left him alone to test him, that He might know all that
was in
Hezekiah’s heart.
And
Hezekiah slept with his fathers, and they buried him in the chiefest of the
sepulchres of the sons of David: and all Judah and the inhabitants of Jerusalem did him honour at his death. And
Manasseh his son reigned in his
stead.
And
Hezekiah rested with his fathers and
was buried in the upper tombs of David’s descendants. All Judah and the people of Jerusalem paid him honor at his death. And his son
Manasseh reigned in his place.
Manasseh was twelve years old when he began to reign, and he reigned fifty and five years in Jerusalem:
Manasseh was twelve years old when he became king, and he reigned in Jerusalem fifty-five years.
But did that which was evil in the sight of the LORD, like unto the abominations of the heathen, whom the LORD had cast out before the children of Israel.
And he did evil in the sight of the LORD by following the abominations of the nations that the LORD had driven out before the Israelites.
And when he
was in
affliction, he
besought the LORD his God, and humbled himself greatly before the God of his fathers,
And in his distress,
Manasseh sought the favor of the LORD his God and earnestly humbled himself before the God of his fathers.
And prayed unto him: and he
was intreated of him, and heard his
supplication, and brought him again to Jerusalem into his kingdom. Then
Manasseh knew that the LORD he
was God.
And when he prayed to Him, the LORD received his
plea and heard his petition; so He brought him back to Jerusalem and to his kingdom. Then
Manasseh knew that the LORD is God.
His prayer also, and how God
was intreated of him, and all his sin, and his
trespass, and the places wherein he built high places, and set up groves and
graven images, before he
was humbled: behold, they are written among the sayings of the seers.
His prayer and how God received his
plea, as well as all his sin and unfaithfulness, and the sites where he built high places and set up Asherah poles and idols before he humbled himself, they are indeed written in the Records of the Seers.
So
Manasseh slept with his fathers, and they buried him in his own house: and Amon his son reigned in his
stead.
And
Manasseh rested with his fathers and
was buried at his palace. And his son Amon reigned in his place.
Amon was two and twenty years old when he began to reign, and reigned two years in Jerusalem.
Amon was twenty-two years old when he became king, and he reigned in Jerusalem two years.
But he did that which
was evil in the sight of the LORD, as did
Manasseh his father: for Amon sacrificed unto all the carved images which
Manasseh his father had made, and served them;
And he did evil in the sight of the LORD, as his father
Manasseh had done. Amon served and sacrificed to all the idols that his father
Manasseh had made,
Josiah was eight years old when he began to reign, and he reigned in Jerusalem one and thirty years.
Josiah was eight years old when he became king, and he reigned in Jerusalem thirty-one years.
And he did that which was right in the sight of the LORD, and walked in the ways of David his father, and declined neither to the right hand, nor to the left.
And he did what was right in the eyes of the LORD and walked in the ways of his father David; he did not turn aside to the right or to the left.
For in the eighth year of his reign, while he
was yet young, he began to seek after the God of David his father: and in the
twelfth year he began to
purge Judah and Jerusalem from the high places, and the groves, and the carved images, and the
molten images.
In the eighth year of his reign, while he
was still young,
Josiah began to seek the God of his father David, and in the
twelfth year he began to
cleanse Judah and Jerusalem of the high places, the Asherah poles, the carved idols, and the cast images.
