And
when eight days were accomplished for the

when the days of her
purification according to the law of Moses were accomplished, they brought him to Jerusalem, to present him to the Lord;
And
when the time of
purification according to the Law of Moses was complete, His parents brought Him to Jerusalem to present Him to the Lord
And he came by the Spirit into the temple: and when the parents brought in the child Jesus, to do for him after the custom of the law,
Led by the Spirit, he went into the temple courts. And when the parents brought in the child Jesus to do for Him what was customary under the Law,
And
when they had performed all things according to the law of the Lord, they returned into
Galilee, to their own city
Nazareth.
When Jesus’ parents had done everything required by the Law of the Lord, they returned to
Galilee, to their own town of

And when he was twelve years old, they went up to Jerusalem after the custom of the feast.
And when He was twelve years old, they went up according to the custom of the Feast.
And
when they had fulfilled the days, as they returned, the child Jesus
tarried behind in Jerusalem; and Joseph and his mother knew not of it.
When those days were over and they were returning home, the boy Jesus remained behind in Jerusalem, but His parents were unaware He had stayed.
And when they found him not, they turned back again to Jerusalem, seeking him.
When they could not find Him, they returned to Jerusalem to search for Him.
And
when they saw him, they were
amazed: and his mother said unto him, Son, why hast thou thus dealt with us? behold, thy father and I have sought thee sorrowing.
When His parents saw Him, they were
astonished. “Child, why have You done this to us?” His mother asked. “Your father and I have been anxiously searching for You.”
But Herod the
tetrarch, being reproved by him for Herodias his brother Philip’s wife, and for all the evils which Herod had done,
But
when he
rebuked Herod the
tetrarch regarding his brother’s wife Herodias and all the evils he had done,
Now
when all the people were
baptized, it came to pass, that Jesus also being
baptized, and praying, the heaven was opened,
When all the people were being
baptized, Jesus was
baptized too. And as He was praying, heaven was opened,
And Jesus himself began to be about thirty years of age, being (as was supposed) the son of Joseph, which was the son of Heli,
Jesus Himself was about thirty years old when He began His ministry. He was regarded as the son of Joseph, the son of Heli,
Being forty days
tempted of the devil. And in those days he did eat nothing: and
when they were ended, he afterward
hungered.
where for forty days He was
tempted by the devil. He
ate nothing during those days, and
when they had ended, He was
hungry.
And
when the devil had ended all the
temptation, he departed from him for a season.
And he came to
Nazareth, where he had been brought up: and, as his custom was, he went into the
synagogue on the sabbath day, and stood up for to read.
Then Jesus came to
Nazareth, where He had been brought up. As was His custom, He entered the
synagogue on the Sabbath. And
when He stood up to read,
And there was delivered unto him the book of the prophet Esaias. And when he had opened the book, he found the place where it was written,
the
scroll of the prophet Isaiah was handed to Him. Unrolling it, He found the place where it was written:
But I tell you of a truth, many widows were in Israel in the days of Elias, when the heaven was shut up three years and six months, when great famine was throughout all the land;
But I tell you truthfully that there were many widows in Israel in the time of
Elijah,
when the sky was shut for three and a half years and great famine swept over all the land.
And all they in the
synagogue,
when they heard these things, were filled with wrath,
And Jesus
rebuked him, saying, Hold thy peace, and come out of him. And
when the devil had thrown him in the midst, he came out of him, and
hurt him not.
But Jesus
rebuked the
demon. “Be silent!” He said. “Come out of him!” At this, the
demon threw the man down before them all and came out without
harming him.
Now
when the sun was setting, all they that had any sick with
divers diseases brought them unto him; and he laid his hands on every one of them, and
healed them.
At
sunset, all who were ill with various diseases were brought to Jesus, and laying His hands on each one, He
healed them.
And when it was day, he departed and went into a desert place: and the people sought him, and came unto him, and stayed him, that he should not depart from them.
At
daybreak, Jesus went out to a solitary place, and the crowds were looking for Him. They came to Him and tried to keep Him from leaving.
Now
when he had left speaking, he said unto Simon,
Launch out into the deep, and let down your nets for a draught.
When Jesus had finished speaking, He said to Simon, “Put out into deep water and let down your nets for a catch.”
And
when they had this done, they inclosed a great multitude of fishes: and their net
brake.
When they had done so, they caught such a large number of fish that their nets began to
tear.
When Simon Peter saw it, he fell down at Jesus’ knees, saying, Depart from me; for I am a sinful man, O Lord.
When Simon Peter saw this, he fell at Jesus’ knees. “Go away from me, Lord,” he said, “for I am a sinful man.”
And
when they had brought their ships to land, they
forsook all, and followed him.
And
when they had brought their boats
ashore, they left everything and followed Him.
And it came to pass,
when he was in a certain city, behold a man full of
leprosy: who seeing Jesus fell on his face, and
besought him, saying, Lord, if thou
wilt, thou canst make me clean.
While Jesus was in one of the towns, a man came along who was covered with
leprosy.
When he saw Jesus, he fell facedown and
begged Him, “Lord, if You are willing, You can make me clean.”
And
when they could not find by what way they might bring him in because of the multitude, they went upon the housetop, and let him down through the
tiling with his
couch into the midst before Jesus.
but they could not find a way through the crowd. So they went up on the roof and lowered him on his mat through the
tiles into the middle of the crowd, right in front of Jesus.
And
when he saw their faith, he said unto him, Man, thy sins are
forgiven thee.
When Jesus saw their faith, He said, “Friend, your sins are
forgiven.”
But when Jesus perceived their thoughts, he answering said unto them, What reason ye in your hearts?
Knowing what they were thinking, Jesus replied, “Why are you thinking these things in your hearts?
But the days will come,
when the
bridegroom shall be taken away from them, and then shall they fast in those days.
But the time will come
when the
bridegroom will be taken from them; then they will fast.”
And Jesus answering them said, Have ye not read so much as this, what David did,
when himself was an
hungred, and they which were with him;
Jesus replied, “Have you not read what David did
when he and his companions were
hungry?
And when it was day, he called unto him his disciples: and of them he chose twelve, whom also he named apostles;
When daylight came, He called His disciples to Him and chose twelve of them, whom He also designated as apostles:
Blessed are ye,
when men shall
hate you, and
when they shall separate you from their company, and shall reproach you, and cast out your name as evil, for the Son of man’s sake.
Blessed are you
when people
hate you, and
when they
exclude you and
insult you and
reject your name as evil because of the Son of Man.
Woe unto you,
when all men shall speak well of you! for so did their fathers to the false prophets.
Woe to you
when all men speak well of you, for their fathers treated the false prophets in the same way.
Either how canst thou say to thy brother, Brother, let me pull out the
mote that is in thine eye,
when thou
thyself beholdest not the beam that is in thine own eye? Thou
hypocrite, cast out first the beam out of thine own eye, and then shalt thou see clearly to pull out the
mote that is in thy brother’s eye.
How can you say, ‘Brother, let me take the
speck out of your eye,’ while you
yourself fail to see the beam in your own eye? You
hypocrite! First take the beam out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to remove the
speck from your brother’s eye.
He is like a man which built an house, and
digged deep, and laid the foundation on a rock: and
when the flood arose, the stream beat
vehemently upon that house, and could not
shake it: for it was founded upon a rock.
He is like a man building a house, who
dug down deep and laid his foundation on the rock.
When the flood came, the
torrent crashed against that house but could not
shake it, because it was well built.
Now
when he had ended all his sayings in the
audience of the people, he entered into
Capernaum.
When Jesus had concluded His discourse in the hearing of the people, He went to
Capernaum.
And
when he heard of Jesus, he sent unto him the elders of the Jews,
beseeching him that he would come and
heal his servant.
When the
centurion heard about Jesus, he sent some Jewish elders to ask Him to come and
heal his servant.
And
when they came to Jesus, they
besought him instantly, saying, That he was worthy for whom he should do this:
They came to Jesus and
pleaded with Him earnestly, “This man is worthy to have You grant this,
Then Jesus went with them. And
when he was now not far from the house, the
centurion sent friends to him, saying unto him, Lord, trouble not
thyself: for I am not worthy that thou shouldest enter under my roof:
So Jesus went with them. But
when He was not far from the house, the
centurion sent friends with the message: “Lord, do not trouble
Yourself, for I am not worthy to have You come under my roof.
When Jesus heard these things, he
marvelled at him, and turned him about, and said unto the people that followed him, I say unto you, I have not found so great faith, no, not in Israel.
When Jesus heard this, He
marveled at the
centurion. Turning to the crowd following Him, He said, “I tell you, not even in Israel have I found such great faith.”
And they that were sent, returning to the house, found the servant whole that had been sick.
And when the messengers returned to the house, they found the servant in good health.
Now
when he came
nigh to the gate of the city, behold, there was a dead man carried out, the only son of his mother, and she was a widow: and much people of the city was with her.
As He approached the town gate, He saw a dead man being carried out, the only son of his mother, and she was a widow. And a large crowd from the town was with her.
And
when the Lord saw her, he had
compassion on her, and said unto her,
Weep not.
When the Lord saw her, He had
compassion on her and said, “Do not
weep.”
When the men were come unto him, they said, John Baptist hath sent us unto thee, saying, Art thou he that should come? or look we for another?
When the men came to Jesus, they said, “John the Baptist sent us to ask, ‘Are You the One who was to come, or should we look for someone else?’”
And
when the messengers of John were departed, he began to speak unto the people concerning John, What went ye out into the wilderness for to see? A reed
shaken with the wind?
After John’s messengers had left, Jesus began to speak to the crowds about John: “What did you go out into the wilderness to see? A reed
swaying in the wind?
Now
when the
Pharisee which had
bidden him saw it, he spake within himself, saying, This man, if he were a prophet, would have known who and what manner of woman this is that toucheth him: for she is a
sinner.
When the
Pharisee who had invited Jesus saw this, he said to himself, “If this man were a prophet, He would know who this is and what kind of woman is touching Him—for she is a
sinner!”
And
when they had nothing to pay, he
frankly forgave them both. Tell me therefore, which of them will love him most?
When they were unable to repay him, he
forgave both of them. Which one, then, will love him more?”
And he turned to the woman, and said unto Simon, Seest thou this woman? I entered into thine house, thou gavest me no water for my feet: but she hath washed my feet with tears, and
wiped them with the hairs of her head.
And turning toward the woman, He said to Simon, “Do you see this woman?
When I entered your house, you did not give Me water for My feet, but she wet My feet with her tears and
wiped them with her hair.
And when much people were gathered together, and were come to him out of every city, he spake by a parable:
While a large crowd was gathering and people were coming to Jesus from town after town, He told them this parable:
And some fell upon a rock; and as soon as it was sprung up, it
withered away, because it lacked moisture.
Some fell on rocky ground, and
when it came up, the seedlings
withered because they had no moisture.
And other fell on good ground, and
sprang up, and bare fruit an
hundredfold. And
when he had said these things, he
cried, He that hath ears to hear, let him hear.
Still other seed fell on good soil, where it
sprang up and produced a crop—a
hundredfold.” As Jesus said this, He called out, “He who has ears to hear, let him hear.”
They on the rock are they, which,
when they hear, receive the word with joy; and these have no root, which for a while believe, and in time of
temptation fall away.
The seeds on rocky ground are those who hear the word and receive it with joy, but they have no root. They believe for a season, but in the time of testing, they fall away.
And that which fell among thorns are they, which,
when they have heard, go forth, and are
choked with cares and riches and pleasures of this life, and bring no fruit to perfection.
The seeds that fell among the thorns are those who hear, but as they go on their way, they are
choked by the
worries, riches, and pleasures of this life, and their fruit does not
mature.
No man,
when he hath lighted a
candle, covereth it with a vessel, or putteth it under a bed; but setteth it on a
candlestick, that they which enter in may see the light.
No one lights a lamp and covers it with a
jar or puts it under a bed. Instead, he sets it on a stand, so those who enter can see the light.
And when he went forth to land, there met him out of the city a certain man, which had devils long time, and ware no clothes, neither abode in any house, but in the tombs.
When Jesus
stepped ashore, He was met by a
demon-possessed man from the town. For a long time this man had not worn clothing or lived in a house, but he stayed in the tombs.
When he saw Jesus, he
cried out, and fell down before him, and with a loud voice said, What have I to do with thee, Jesus, thou Son of God most high? I
beseech thee,
torment me not.
When the man saw Jesus, he
cried out and fell down before Him,
shouting in a loud voice, “What do You want with me, Jesus, Son of the Most High God? I
beg You not to
torture me!”
When they that fed them saw what was done, they fled, and went and told it in the city and in the country.
When those tending the pigs saw what had happened, they ran off and reported this in the town and
countryside.
And it came to pass, that,
when Jesus was returned, the people
gladly received him: for they were all waiting for him.
When Jesus returned, the crowd
welcomed Him, for they had all been waiting for Him.
And Jesus said, Who touched me?
When all denied, Peter and they that were with him said, Master, the multitude
throng thee and press thee, and sayest thou, Who touched me?
“Who touched Me?” Jesus asked. But they all denied it. “Master,” said Peter, “the people are crowding and pressing against You.”
And
when the woman saw that she was not
hid, she came
trembling, and falling down before him, she declared unto him before all the people for what cause she had touched him and how she was
healed immediately.
Then the woman, seeing that she could not escape notice, came
trembling and fell down before Him. In the presence of all the people, she explained why she had touched Him and how she had immediately been
healed.
But when Jesus heard it, he answered him, saying, Fear not: believe only, and she shall be made whole.
But Jesus overheard them and said to Jairus, “Do not be afraid; just believe, and she will be
healed.”
And
when he came into the house, he suffered no man to go in, save Peter, and James, and John, and the father and the mother of the
maiden.
When He entered the house, He did not allow
anyone to go in with Him except Peter, John, James, and the child’s father and mother.
And
whosoever will not receive you,
when ye go out of that city,
shake off the very dust from your feet for a testimony against them.
If
anyone does not
welcome you,
shake the dust off your feet
when you leave that town, as a testimony against them.”
Now Herod the
tetrarch heard of all that was done by him: and he was
perplexed, because that it was said of some, that John was risen from the dead;
When Herod the
tetrarch heard about all that was happening, he was
perplexed. For some were saying that John had risen from the dead,
And the apostles,
when they were returned, told him all that they had done. And he took them, and went aside privately into a desert place belonging to the city called
Bethsaida.
Then the apostles returned and reported to Jesus all that they had done. Taking them away privately, He withdrew to a town called
Bethsaida.
And the people,
when they knew it, followed him: and he received them, and spake unto them of the kingdom of God, and
healed them that had need of
healing.
But the crowds found out and followed Him. He
welcomed them and spoke to them about the kingdom of God, and He
healed those who needed
healing.
And
when the day began to wear away, then came the twelve, and said unto him, Send the multitude away, that they may go into the towns and country round about, and
lodge, and get
victuals: for we are here in a desert place.
As the day neared its end, the Twelve came to Jesus and said, “Dismiss the crowd so they can go to the surrounding villages and
countryside for
lodging and provisions. For we are in a
desolate place here.”
For
whosoever shall be
ashamed of me and of my words, of him shall the Son of man be
ashamed,
when he shall come in his own glory, and in his Father’s, and of the holy angels.
If
anyone is
ashamed of Me and My words, the Son of Man will be
ashamed of him
when He comes in His glory and in the glory of the Father and of the holy angels.
But Peter and they that were with him were heavy with sleep: and
when they were
awake, they saw his glory, and the two men that stood with him.
Meanwhile Peter and his companions were overcome by sleep, but
when they
awoke, they saw Jesus’ glory and the two men standing with Him.
And when the voice was past, Jesus was found alone. And they kept it close, and told no man in those days any of those things which they had seen.
After the voice had spoken, only Jesus was present with them. The disciples kept this to themselves, and in those days they did not tell
anyone what they had seen.
And it came to pass, that on the next day, when they were come down from the hill, much people met him.
The next day, when they came down from the mountain, Jesus was met by a large crowd.
And it came to pass,
when the time was come that he should be received up, he
stedfastly set his face to go to Jerusalem,
And
when his disciples James and John saw this, they said, Lord,
wilt thou that we command fire to come down from heaven, and
consume them, even as Elias did?
When the disciples James and John saw this, they asked, “Lord, do You want us to call down fire from heaven to
consume them?”
And Jesus answering said, A certain man went down from Jerusalem to
Jericho, and fell among
thieves, which
stripped him of his
raiment, and wounded him, and departed, leaving him half dead.
Jesus took up this question and said, “A man was going down from Jerusalem to
Jericho when he fell into the hands of robbers. They
stripped him, beat him, and went away, leaving him half dead.
And by chance there came down a certain priest that way: and when he saw him, he passed by on the other side.
Now by chance a priest was going down the same road, but when he saw him, he passed by on the other side.
And likewise a
Levite,
when he was at the place, came and looked on him, and passed by on the other side.
So too,
when a
Levite came to that spot and saw him, he passed by on the other side.
But a certain
Samaritan, as he journeyed, came where he was: and
when he saw him, he had
compassion on him,
And on the
morrow when he departed, he took out two
pence, and gave them to the host, and said unto him, Take care of him; and
whatsoever thou spendest more,
when I come again, I will repay thee.
The next day he took out two
denarii and gave them to the
innkeeper. ‘Take care of him,’ he said, ‘and on my return I will repay you for any additional expense.’
And it came to pass, that, as he was praying in a certain place, when he ceased, one of his disciples said unto him, Lord, teach us to pray, as John also taught his disciples.
One day in a place where Jesus had just finished praying, one of His disciples requested, “Lord, teach us to pray, just as John taught his disciples.”
And he said unto them,
When ye pray, say, Our Father which art in heaven,
Hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done, as in heaven, so in earth.
So Jesus told them, “
When you pray, say: ‘Father,
hallowed be Your name. Your kingdom come.
And he was casting out a devil, and it was
dumb. And it came to pass,
when the devil was gone out, the
dumb spake; and the people wondered.
One day Jesus was driving out a
demon that was
mute. And
when the
demon was gone, the man who had been
mute spoke. The crowds were
amazed,
When a strong man armed keepeth his palace, his goods are in peace:
When a strong man, fully armed, guards his house, his possessions are secure.
But when a stronger than he shall come upon him, and overcome him, he taketh from him all his armour wherein he trusted, and divideth his spoils.
But
when someone stronger attacks and overpowers him, he takes away the
armor in which the man trusted, and then he divides up his
plunder.
When the unclean spirit is gone out of a man, he walketh through dry places, seeking rest; and finding none, he saith, I will return unto my house whence I came out.
When an unclean spirit comes out of a man, it passes through
arid places seeking rest and does not find it. Then it says, ‘I will return to the house I left.’
And
when he cometh, he findeth it swept and
garnished.
On its return, it finds the house swept clean and put in order.
And
when the people were gathered thick together, he began to say, This is an evil generation: they seek a sign; and there shall no sign be given it, but the sign of
Jonas the prophet.
As the crowds were increasing, Jesus said, “This is a wicked generation. It demands a sign, but none will be given it except the sign of
Jonah.
No man,
when he hath lighted a
candle, putteth it in a secret place, neither under a
bushel, but on a
candlestick, that they which come in may see the light.
No one lights a lamp and puts it in a
cellar or under a
basket. Instead, he sets it on a stand, so those who enter can see the light.
The light of the body is the eye: therefore when thine eye is single, thy whole body also is full of light; but when thine eye is evil, thy body also is full of darkness.
Your eye is the lamp of your body. When your eyes are good, your whole body also is full of light. But when they are bad, your body is full of darkness.
If thy whole body therefore be full of light, having no part dark, the whole shall be full of light, as
when the bright
shining of a
candle doth give thee light.
So if your whole body is full of light, with no part of it in darkness, you will be
radiant, as though a lamp were
shining on you.”
But the
Pharisee was surprised to see that Jesus did not first wash before the meal.
Then answered one of the lawyers, and said unto him, Master, thus saying thou reproachest us also.
One of the experts in the law told Him, “Teacher,
when You say these things, You
insult us as well.”
In the mean time,
when there were gathered together an innumerable multitude of people,
insomuch that they
trode one upon another, he began to say unto his disciples first of all,
Beware ye of the
leaven of the
Pharisees, which is
hypocrisy.
In the meantime, a crowd of many thousands had gathered, so that they were
trampling one another. Jesus began to speak first to His disciples: “
Beware of the
leaven of the
Pharisees, which is
hypocrisy.
And when they bring you unto the synagogues, and unto magistrates, and powers, take ye no thought how or what thing ye shall answer, or what ye shall say:
When you are brought before synagogues, rulers, and authorities, do not
worry about how to defend
yourselves or what to say.
And ye
yourselves like unto men that wait for their lord,
when he will return from the
wedding; that
when he cometh and knocketh, they may open unto him immediately.
Then you will be like servants waiting for their master to return from the
wedding banquet, so that
when he comes and knocks, they can open the door for him at once.
Blessed are those servants, whom the lord
when he cometh shall find watching:
verily I say unto you, that he shall
gird himself, and make them to sit down to meat, and will come forth and serve them.
Blessed are those servants whom the master finds on watch
when he returns. Truly I tell you, he will dress himself to serve and will have them
recline at the table, and he himself will come and wait on them.
Be ye therefore ready also: for the Son of man cometh at an hour when ye think not.
You also must be ready, because the Son of Man will come at an hour you do not expect.”
Blessed is that servant, whom his lord when he cometh shall find so doing.
Blessed is that servant whose master finds him doing so when he returns.
The lord of that servant will come in a day
when he looketh not for him, and at an hour
when he is not aware, and will cut him in
sunder, and will
appoint him his portion with the unbelievers.
The master of that servant will come on a day he does not expect and at an hour he does not
anticipate. Then he will cut him to pieces and
assign him a place with the unbelievers.
And he said also to the people,
When ye see a cloud rise out of the west,
straightway ye say, There cometh a shower; and so it is.
Then Jesus said to the crowds, “As soon as you see a cloud rising in the west, you say, ‘A shower is coming,’ and that is what happens.
