wicked, and he that condemneth the just, even they both are
abomination to the LORD.
A
wicked man taketh a gift out of the
bosom to
pervert the ways of judgment.
When the
wicked cometh, then cometh also contempt, and with
ignominy reproach.
With a wicked man comes contempt as well, and shame is accompanied by disgrace.

Showing
partiality to the
wicked is not good, nor is depriving the innocent of justice.
An ungodly witness scorneth judgment: and the mouth of the wicked devoureth iniquity.
A corrupt witness mocks justice, and a
wicked mouth
swallows iniquity.
A wise king scattereth the wicked, and bringeth the wheel over them.
A wise king separates out the
wicked and drives the
threshing wheel over them.

The violence of the

sweep them away because they refuse to do what is just.

The soul of the

abomination: how much more, when he bringeth it with a

envious against evil men, neither desire to be with them.

wicked man, against the dwelling of the righteous;

envious of the
wicked.

candle of the
wicked shall be put out.

wicked will be
extinguished.

wicked, Thou art righteous; him shall the people
curse, nations shall
abhor him:
Whoever tells the guilty, “You are innocent”— peoples will
curse him, and nations will
denounce him;
Take away the wicked from before the king, and his throne shall be established in righteousness.
Remove the wicked from the king’s presence, and his throne will be established in righteousness.
A righteous man falling down before the wicked is as a troubled fountain, and a corrupt spring.
Like a
muddied spring or a
polluted well is a righteous man who gives way to the
wicked.
Burning lips and a
wicked heart are like a
potsherd covered with silver
dross.

glaze covering an
earthen vessel are burning lips and a
wicked heart.

deceit, his
wickedness shall be shewed before the whole congregation.

deception, his
wickedness will be exposed in the assembly.

wicked flee when no one pursues, but the righteous are as bold as a lion.

forsake the law praise the
wicked: but such as keep the law
contend with them.

rejoice, there is great glory: but when the
wicked rise, a man is hidden.
When the righteous triumph, there is great glory, but when the wicked rise, men hide themselves.
As a
roaring lion, and a ranging bear; so is a
wicked ruler over the poor people.

If a ruler
hearken to lies, all his servants are
wicked.
If a ruler listens to lies, all his officials will be wicked.

wicked are multiplied,
transgression increaseth: but the righteous shall see their fall.
When the
wicked thrive, rebellion increases; but the righteous will see their
downfall.

detestable to the righteous, and one whose way is upright is
detestable to the
wicked.
Such is the way of an
adulterous woman; she eateth, and wipeth her mouth, and saith, I have done no
wickedness.
This is the way of an
adulteress: She eats and wipes her mouth and says, ‘I have done nothing wrong.’
And moreover I saw under the sun the place of judgment, that wickedness was there; and the place of righteousness, that iniquity was there.
Furthermore, I saw under the sun that in the place of judgment there is
wickedness, and in the place of righteousness there is
wickedness.
I said in mine heart, God shall judge the righteous and the wicked: for there is a time there for every purpose and for every work.
I said in my heart, “God will judge the righteous and the wicked, since there is a time for every activity and every deed.”
All things have I seen in the days of my vanity: there is a just man that perisheth in his righteousness, and there is a wicked man that prolongeth his life in his wickedness.
In my
futile life I have seen both of these: A righteous man perishing in his righteousness, and a
wicked man living long in his
wickedness.
Be not over much
wicked, neither be thou
foolish: why shouldest thou die before thy time?
Do not be excessively
wicked, and do not be a
fool. Why should you die before your time?
I applied mine heart to know, and to search, and to seek out wisdom, and the reason of things, and to know the
wickedness of folly, even of
foolishness and madness:
I directed my mind to understand, to
explore, to search out wisdom and explanations, and to understand the
stupidity of
wickedness and the folly of madness.
There is no man that hath power over the spirit to retain the spirit; neither hath he power in the day of death: and there is no discharge in that war; neither shall wickedness deliver those that are given to it.
As no man has power over the wind to contain it, so no one has authority over his day of death. As no one can be discharged in wartime, so wickedness will not release those who practice it.
And so I saw the wicked buried, who had come and gone from the place of the holy, and they were forgotten in the city where they had so done: this is also vanity.
Then too, I saw the burial of the
wicked who used to go in and out of the holy place, and they were praised in the city where they had done so. This too is
futile.
But it shall not be well with the
wicked, neither shall he
prolong his days, which are as a shadow; because he feareth not before God.
Yet because the
wicked do not fear God, it will not go well with them, and their days will not
lengthen like a shadow.
There is a vanity which is done upon the earth; that there be just men, unto whom it happeneth according to the work of the wicked; again, there be wicked men, to whom it happeneth according to the work of the righteous: I said that this also is vanity.
There is a
futility that is done on the earth: There are righteous men who get what the actions of the
wicked deserve, and there are
wicked men who get what the actions of the righteous deserve. I say that this too is
futile.
All things come alike to all: there is one event to the righteous, and to the
wicked; to the good and to the clean, and to the unclean; to him that sacrificeth, and to him that sacrificeth not: as is the good, so is the
sinner; and he that sweareth, as he that feareth an oath.
It is the same for all: There is a common fate for the righteous and the
wicked, for the good and the bad, for the clean and the unclean, for the one who sacrifices and the one who does not. As it is for the good, so it is for the
sinner; as it is for the one who makes a
vow, so it is for the one who refuses to take a
vow.
Woe unto the
wicked! it shall be ill with him: for the reward of his hands shall be given him.
Woe to the
wicked;
disaster is upon them! For they will be repaid with what their hands have done.
Which
justify the
wicked for reward, and take away the righteousness of the righteous from him!
who
acquit the guilty for a
bribe and deprive the innocent of justice.
Therefore the Lord shall have no joy in their young men, neither shall have mercy on their fatherless and widows: for every one is an
hypocrite and an
evildoer, and every mouth speaketh folly. For all this his anger is not turned away, but his hand is stretched out still.
Therefore the Lord takes no pleasure in their young men; He has no
compassion on their fatherless and widows. For every one of them is godless and
wicked, and every mouth speaks folly.
Despite all this, His anger is not turned away; His hand is still upraised.
For
wickedness burneth as the fire: it shall
devour the briers and thorns, and shall
kindle in the thickets of the forest, and they shall mount up like the lifting up of smoke.
For wickedness burns like a fire that consumes the thorns and briers and kindles the forest thickets which roll upward in billows of smoke.
But with righteousness shall he judge the poor, and reprove with
equity for the
meek of the earth: and he shall
smite the earth with the rod of his mouth, and with the breath of his lips shall he
slay the
wicked.
but with righteousness He will judge the poor, and with
equity He will decide for the lowly of the earth. He will strike the earth with the rod of His mouth and
slay the
wicked with the breath of His lips.
And I will
punish the world for their evil, and the
wicked for their iniquity; and I will cause the
arrogancy of the proud to cease, and will lay low the
haughtiness of the terrible.
The LORD hath broken the staff of the
wicked, and the
sceptre of the rulers.
The LORD has broken the staff of the
wicked, the
scepter of the rulers.
Thou shalt not be joined with them in burial, because thou hast destroyed thy land, and slain thy people: the seed of evildoers shall never be
renowned.
You will not join them in burial, since you have destroyed your land and slaughtered your own people. The offspring of the wicked will never again be mentioned.
Let favour be shewed to the wicked, yet will he not learn righteousness: in the land of uprightness will he deal unjustly, and will not behold the majesty of the LORD.
Though grace is shown to the wicked man, he does not learn righteousness. In the land of righteousness he acts unjustly and fails to see the majesty of the LORD.
Yet he also is wise, and will bring evil, and will not call back his words: but will arise against the house of the evildoers, and against the help of them that work iniquity.
Yet He too is wise and brings
disaster; He does not call back His words. He will rise up against the house of the
wicked and against the allies of evildoers.
The instruments also of the
churl are evil: he deviseth
wicked devices to destroy the poor with lying words, even when the
needy speaketh right.
The weapons of the
scoundrel are destructive; he hatches plots to destroy the poor with lies, even when the
plea of the
needy is just.
For thou hast trusted in thy
wickedness: thou hast said, None
seeth me. Thy wisdom and thy knowledge, it hath
perverted thee; and thou hast said in thine heart, I am, and none else beside me.
You were secure in your
wickedness; you said, ‘No one sees me.’ Your wisdom and knowledge led you
astray; you told
yourself, ‘I am, and there is none besides me.’
There is no peace, saith the LORD, unto the wicked.
“There is no peace,” says the LORD, “for the wicked.”
And he made his grave with the
wicked, and with the rich in his death; because he had done no violence, neither was any
deceit in his mouth.
He was assigned a grave with the
wicked, and with a rich man in His death, although He had done no violence, nor was any
deceit in His mouth.
Let the
wicked forsake his way, and the unrighteous man his thoughts: and let him return unto the LORD, and he will have mercy upon him; and to our God, for he will abundantly
pardon.
Let the
wicked man
forsake his own way and the unrighteous man his own thoughts; let him return to the LORD, that He may have
compassion, and to our God, for He will freely
pardon.
But the
wicked are like the troubled sea, when it cannot rest, whose waters cast up
mire and
dirt.
But the
wicked are like the storm-
tossed sea, for it cannot be still, and its waves
churn up
mire and
muck.
There is no peace, saith my God, to the wicked.
“There is no peace,” says my God, “for the wicked.”
Behold, ye fast for
strife and
debate, and to
smite with the
fist of
wickedness: ye shall not fast as ye do this day, to make your voice to be heard on high.
Is not this the fast that I have chosen? to loose the bands of
wickedness, to
undo the heavy burdens, and to let the
oppressed go free, and that ye break every yoke?
Isn’t this the fast that I have chosen: to break the chains of
wickedness, to
untie the cords of the yoke, to set the
oppressed free and
tear off every yoke?
And I will utter my judgments against them touching all their
wickedness, who have
forsaken me, and have burned incense unto other gods, and worshipped the works of their own hands.
I will
pronounce My judgments against them for all their
wickedness, because they have
forsaken Me to burn incense to other gods and to worship the works of their own hands.
Thine own
wickedness shall correct thee, and thy backslidings shall reprove thee: know therefore and see that it is an evil thing and bitter, that thou hast
forsaken the LORD thy God, and that my fear is not in thee, saith the Lord GOD of hosts.
Your own evil will discipline you; your own
apostasies will
reprimand you. Consider and
realize how evil and bitter it is for you to
forsake the LORD your God and to have no fear of Me,” declares the Lord GOD of Hosts.
Why trimmest thou thy way to seek love? therefore hast thou also taught the wicked ones thy ways.
How
skillfully you pursue love! Even the most immoral of women could learn from your ways.
Lift up thine eyes unto the high places, and see where thou hast not been
lien with. In the ways hast thou sat for them, as the Arabian in the wilderness; and thou hast
polluted the land with thy whoredoms and with thy
wickedness.
“Lift up your eyes to the barren heights and see. Is there any place where you have not been
violated? You sat beside the
highways waiting for your lovers, like a
nomad in the desert. You have
defiled the land with your
prostitution and
wickedness.
O Jerusalem, wash thine heart from
wickedness, that thou mayest be saved. How long shall thy vain thoughts
lodge within thee?
Wash the evil from your heart, O Jerusalem, so that you may be saved. How long will you
harbor wicked thoughts within you?
Thy way and thy doings have procured these things unto thee; this is thy wickedness, because it is bitter, because it reacheth unto thine heart.
“Your ways and deeds have brought this upon you. This is your punishment; how bitter it is, because it pierces to the heart!”
For among my people are found
wicked men: they lay wait, as he that setteth snares; they set a
trap, they catch men.
For among My people are
wicked men; they watch like fowlers lying in wait; they set a
trap to catch men.
They are
waxen fat, they
shine:
yea, they overpass the deeds of the
wicked: they judge not the cause, the cause of the fatherless, yet they
prosper; and the right of the
needy do they not judge.
They have grown fat and
sleek, and have
excelled in the deeds of the
wicked. They have not taken up the cause of the fatherless, that they might
prosper; nor have they defended the rights of the
needy.
As a fountain casteth out her waters, so she casteth out her
wickedness: violence and
spoil is heard in her; before me continually is grief and wounds.
As a well gushes its water, so she pours out her evil. Violence and destruction resound in her; sickness and wounds are ever before Me.
The
bellows are burned, the lead is consumed of the fire; the founder melteth in vain: for the
wicked are not
plucked away.
The
bellows blow fiercely, blasting away the lead with fire. The refining proceeds in vain, for the
wicked are not
purged.
But go ye now unto my place which was in
Shiloh, where I set my name at the first, and see what I did to it for the
wickedness of my people Israel.
But go now to the place in
Shiloh where I first made a dwelling for My Name, and see what I did to it because of the
wickedness of My people Israel.
I
hearkened and heard, but they spake not
aright: no man
repented him of his
wickedness, saying, What have I done? every one turned to his course, as the horse rusheth into the battle.
I have
listened and heard; they do not speak what is right. No one repents of his
wickedness, asking, ‘What have I done?’
Everyone has pursued his own course like a horse charging into battle.
Righteous art thou, O LORD, when I
plead with thee: yet let me talk with thee of thy judgments: Wherefore
doth the way of the
wicked prosper? wherefore are all they happy that deal very
treacherously?
Righteous are You, O LORD, when I
plead before You. Yet about Your judgments I wish to
contend with You: Why does the way of the
wicked prosper? Why do all the faithless live at ease?
But thou, O LORD, knowest me: thou hast seen me, and tried mine heart toward thee: pull them out like sheep for the slaughter, and prepare them for the day of slaughter.
But You know me, O LORD; You see me and test my heart toward You.
Drag away the
wicked like sheep to the slaughter and set them apart for the day of
carnage.
How long shall the land
mourn, and the herbs of every field wither, for the
wickedness of them that dwell therein? the beasts are consumed, and the birds; because they said, He shall not see our last end.
How long will the land
mourn and the grass of every field be
withered? Because of the evil of its residents, the animals and birds have been swept away, for the people have said, “He cannot see what our end will be.”
And the people to whom they
prophesy shall be cast out in the streets of Jerusalem because of the famine and the sword; and they shall have none to
bury them, them, their wives, nor their sons, nor their daughters: for I will pour their
wickedness upon them.
And the people to whom they
prophesy will be thrown into the streets of Jerusalem because of famine and sword. There will be no one to
bury them or their wives, their sons or their daughters. I will pour out their own evil upon them.
We acknowledge, O LORD, our
wickedness, and the iniquity of our fathers: for we have
sinned against thee.
We acknowledge our
wickedness, O LORD, the guilt of our fathers; indeed, we have
sinned against You.
And I will deliver thee out of the hand of the
wicked, and I will
redeem thee out of the hand of the terrible.
The heart is
deceitful above all things and beyond cure. Who can understand it?
The wind shall eat up all thy pastors, and thy lovers shall go into captivity: surely then shalt thou be
ashamed and confounded for all thy
wickedness.
The wind will drive away all your
shepherds, and your lovers will go into captivity. Then you will be
ashamed and
humiliated because of all your
wickedness.
For both prophet and priest are
profane;
yea, in my house have I found their
wickedness, saith the LORD.
“For both prophet and priest are ungodly; even in My house I have found their wickedness,” declares the LORD.
I have seen also in the prophets of Jerusalem an
horrible thing: they commit
adultery, and walk in lies: they
strengthen also the hands of evildoers, that none
doth return from his
wickedness: they are all of them unto me as
Sodom, and the inhabitants thereof as
Gomorrah.
And among the prophets of Jerusalem I have seen a
horrible thing: They commit
adultery and walk in lies. They
strengthen the hands of evildoers, so that no one turns his back on
wickedness. They are all like
Sodom to Me; the people of Jerusalem are like
Gomorrah.”
Behold, the storm of the LORD has gone out with
fury, a
whirlwind swirling down upon the heads of the
wicked.
A noise shall come even to the ends of the earth; for the LORD hath a controversy with the nations, he will
plead with all flesh; he will give them that are
wicked to the sword, saith the LORD.
The
tumult will resound to the ends of the earth because the LORD brings a charge against the nations. He brings judgment on all mankind and puts the
wicked to the sword,’” declares the LORD.
Behold, the
whirlwind of the LORD goeth forth with
fury, a continuing
whirlwind: it shall fall with pain upon the head of the
wicked.
Behold, the storm of the LORD has gone out with
fury, a
whirlwind swirling down upon the heads of the
wicked.
They come to fight with the Chaldeans, but it is to fill them with the dead bodies of men, whom I have slain in mine anger and in my
fury, and for all whose
wickedness I have
hid my face from this city.
The Chaldeans are coming to fight and to fill those places with the corpses of the men I will strike down in My anger and in My wrath. I have hidden My face from this city because of all its wickedness.
