And they came near unto him, and said, We will build sheepfolds here for our cattle, and cities for our little ones:
Then the Gadites and Reubenites approached Moses and said, “We want to build sheepfolds here for our
livestock and cities for our little ones.
But we ourselves
will go ready armed before the children of Israel, until we have brought them unto their place: and our little ones shall dwell in the
fenced cities because of the inhabitants of the land.
But we
will arm ourselves and be ready to go
ahead of the Israelites until we have brought them into their place. Meanwhile, our little ones
will remain in the fortified cities for protection from the inhabitants of the land.
We will not return unto our houses, until the children of Israel have inherited every man his inheritance.
We
will not return to our homes until every
Israelite has taken possession of his inheritance.
For we
will not
inherit with them on
yonder side Jordan, or forward; because our inheritance is fallen to us on this side Jordan eastward.
Yet we will not have an inheritance with them across the Jordan and beyond, because our inheritance has come to us on the east side of the Jordan.”
And Moses said unto them, If ye will do this thing, if ye will go armed before the LORD to war,
Moses replied, “If you
will do this—if you
will arm
yourselves before the LORD for battle,
And will go all of you armed over Jordan before the LORD, until he hath driven out his enemies from before him,
and if every one of your armed men crosses the Jordan before the LORD, until He has driven His enemies out before Him,
And the land be subdued before the LORD: then afterward ye shall return, and be guiltless before the LORD, and before Israel; and this land shall be your possession before the LORD.
then when the land is subdued before the LORD, you may return and be free of obligation to the LORD and to Israel. And this land will belong to you as a possession before the LORD.
But if ye
will not do so, behold, ye have
sinned against the LORD: and be sure your sin
will find you out.
But if you do not do this, you
will certainly sin against the LORD—and be
assured that your sin
will find you out.
And the children of
Gad and the children of
Reuben spake unto Moses, saying, Thy servants
will do as my lord commandeth.
The Gadites and Reubenites said to Moses, “Your servants will do just as our lord commands.
Our little ones, our wives, our flocks, and all our cattle, shall be there in the cities of
Gilead:
Our children, our wives, our
livestock, and all our animals
will remain here in the cities of
Gilead.
But thy servants will pass over, every man armed for war, before the LORD to battle, as my lord saith.
But your servants are
equipped for war, and every man
will cross over to the battle before the LORD, just as our lord says.”
And Moses said unto them, If the children of
Gad and the children of
Reuben will pass with you over Jordan, every man armed to battle, before the LORD, and the land shall be subdued before you; then ye shall give them the land of
Gilead for a possession:
And Moses said to them, “If the Gadites and Reubenites cross the Jordan with you, with every man armed for battle before the LORD, and the land is subdued before you, then you are to give them the land of
Gilead as a possession.
But if they
will not pass over with you armed, they shall have possessions among you in the land of
Canaan.
But if they do not arm themselves and go across with you, then they must accept their possession among you in the land of
Canaan.”
And the children of
Gad and the children of
Reuben answered, saying, As the LORD hath said unto thy servants, so
will we do.
The Gadites and Reubenites replied, “As the LORD has spoken to your servants, so we will do.
We
will pass over armed before the LORD into the land of
Canaan, that the possession of our inheritance on this side Jordan may be ours.
We
will cross over into the land of
Canaan armed before the LORD, that we may have our inheritance on this side of the Jordan.”
And ye shall divide the land by lot for an inheritance among your families: and to the more ye shall give the more inheritance, and to the fewer ye shall give the less inheritance: every man’s inheritance shall be in the place where his lot falleth; according to the tribes of your fathers ye shall
inherit.
And you are to divide the land by lot according to your clans. Give a larger inheritance to a larger clan and a smaller inheritance to a smaller one. Whatever falls to each one by lot will be his. You will receive an inheritance according to the tribes of your fathers.
But if ye
will not drive out the inhabitants of the land from before you; then it shall come to pass, that those which ye let remain of them shall be pricks in your eyes, and thorns in your sides, and shall
vex you in the land wherein ye dwell.
But if you do not drive out the inhabitants of the land before you, those you allow to remain
will become barbs in your eyes and thorns in your sides; they
will harass you in the land where you settle.
Moreover it shall come to pass, that I shall do unto you, as I thought to do unto them.
And then I
will do to you what I had
planned to do to them.”
Command the children of Israel, and say unto them, When ye come into the land of
Canaan; (this is the land that shall fall unto you for an inheritance, even the land of
Canaan with the coasts thereof:)
“Command the Israelites and say to them: When you enter the land of
Canaan, it
will be
allotted to you as an inheritance with these boundaries:
Then your south quarter shall be from the wilderness of Zin along by the coast of
Edom, and your south border shall be the outmost coast of the salt sea eastward:
Your southern border
will extend from the Wilderness of Zin along the border of
Edom. On the east, your southern border
will run from the end of the Salt Sea,
And your border shall turn from the south to the
ascent of Akrabbim, and pass on to Zin: and the going forth thereof shall be from the south to Kadesh-barnea, and shall go on to Hazar-addar, and pass on to Azmon:
cross south of the
Ascent of Akrabbim, continue to Zin, and go south of Kadesh-barnea. Then it
will go on to Hazar-addar and proceed to Azmon,
And the border shall
fetch a compass from Azmon unto the river of Egypt, and the goings out of it shall be at the sea.
where it
will turn from Azmon, join the
Brook of Egypt, and end at the Sea.
And as for the western border, ye shall even have the great sea for a border: this shall be your west border.
Your western border will be the coastline of the Great Sea; this will be your boundary on the west.
And this shall be your north border: from the great sea ye shall point out for you mount
Hor:
Your northern border
will run from the Great Sea directly to Mount
Hor,
And the border shall go on to Ziphron, and the goings out of it shall be at Hazar-enan: this shall be your north border.
continue to Ziphron, and end at Hazar-enan. This will be your boundary on the north.
And ye shall point out your east border from Hazar-enan to Shepham:
And your eastern border will run straight from Hazar-enan to Shepham,
And the border shall go down to Jordan, and the goings out of it shall be at the salt sea: this shall be your land with the coasts thereof round about.
Then the border will go down along the Jordan and end at the Salt Sea. This will be your land, defined by its borders on all sides.”
Command the children of Israel, that they give unto the Levites of the inheritance of their possession cities to dwell in; and ye shall give also unto the Levites suburbs for the cities round about them.
“Command the Israelites to give, from the inheritance they will possess, cities for the Levites to live in and pasturelands around the cities.
And the cities shall they have to dwell in; and the suburbs of them shall be for their cattle, and for their goods, and for all their beasts.
The cities
will be for them to live in, and the pasturelands
will be for their herds, their flocks, and all their other
livestock.
And the suburbs of the cities, which ye shall give unto the Levites, shall reach from the wall of the city and outward a thousand cubits round about.
The pasturelands around the cities you are to give the Levites will extend a thousand cubits from the wall on every side.
And ye shall measure from without the city on the east side two thousand cubits, and on the south side two thousand cubits, and on the west side two thousand cubits, and on the north side two thousand cubits and the city shall be in the midst: this shall be to them the suburbs of the cities.
You are also to measure two thousand cubits outside the city on the east, two thousand on the south, two thousand on the west, and two thousand on the north, with the city in the center. These areas will serve as larger pasturelands for the cities.
So all the cities which ye shall give to the Levites shall be forty and eight cities: them shall ye give with their suburbs.
The total number of cities you give the Levites will be forty-eight, with their corresponding pasturelands.
And they shall be unto you cities for refuge from the
avenger; that the
manslayer die not, until he stand before the congregation in judgment.
You are to have these cities as a refuge from the
avenger, so that the
manslayer will not die until he stands trial before the assembly.
And of these cities which ye shall give six cities shall ye have for refuge.
The cities you select will be your six cities of refuge.
These six cities shall be a refuge, both for the children of Israel, and for the stranger, and for the
sojourner among them: that every one that killeth any person unawares may
flee thither.
These six cities
will serve as a refuge for the Israelites and for the foreigner or stranger among them, so that
anyone who kills a person
unintentionally may
flee there.
And the congregation shall deliver the
slayer out of the hand of the
revenger of blood, and the congregation shall restore him to the city of his refuge,
whither he was fled: and he shall
abide in it unto the death of the high priest, which was
anointed with the holy oil.
The assembly is to protect the
manslayer from the hand of the
avenger of blood. Then the assembly
will return him to the city of refuge to which he fled, and he must live there until the death of the high priest, who was
anointed with the holy oil.
And the
revenger of blood find him without the borders of the city of his refuge, and the
revenger of blood kill the
slayer; he shall not be guilty of blood:
and the
avenger of blood finds him outside of his city of refuge and kills him, then the
avenger will not be guilty of
bloodshed So these things shall be for a statute of judgment unto you throughout your generations in all your dwellings.
This
will be a
statutory ordinance for you for the generations to come, wherever you live.
And if they be married to any of the sons of the other tribes of the children of Israel, then shall their inheritance be taken from the inheritance of our fathers, and shall be put to the inheritance of the tribe
whereunto they are received: so shall it be taken from the lot of our inheritance.
But if they marry any of the men from the other tribes of Israel, their inheritance
will be withdrawn from the portion of our fathers and added to the tribe into which they marry. So our
allotted inheritance would be taken away.
And when the jubile of the children of Israel shall be, then shall their inheritance be put unto the inheritance of the tribe
whereunto they are received: so shall their inheritance be taken away from the inheritance of the tribe of our fathers.
And when the
Jubilee for the Israelites comes, their inheritance
will be added to the tribe into which they marry and taken away from the tribe of our fathers.”
And every daughter, that possesseth an inheritance in any tribe of the children of Israel, shall be wife unto one of the family of the tribe of her father, that the children of Israel may enjoy every man the inheritance of his fathers.
Every daughter who possesses an inheritance from any
Israelite tribe must marry within a clan of the tribe of her father, so that every
Israelite will possess the inheritance of his fathers.
Take you wise men, and understanding, and known among your tribes, and I will make them rulers over you.
Choose for
yourselves wise, understanding, and respected men from each of your tribes, and I
will appoint them as your leaders.”
Ye shall not respect persons in judgment; but ye shall hear the small as well as the great; ye shall not be afraid of the face of man; for the judgment is God’s: and the cause that is too hard for you, bring it unto me, and I will hear it.
Show no
partiality in judging; hear both small and great alike. Do not be
intimidated by
anyone, for judgment belongs to God. And bring to me any case too difficult for you, and I
will hear it.”
And ye came near unto me every one of you, and said, We will send men before us, and they shall search us out the land, and bring us word again by what way we must go up, and into what cities we shall come.
Then all of you approached me and said, “Let us send men
ahead of us to search out the land and bring us word of what route to follow and which cities to enter.”
The LORD your God which goeth before you, he shall fight for you, according to all that he did for you in Egypt before your eyes;
The LORD your God, who goes before you, will fight for you, just as you saw Him do for you in Egypt
Save
Caleb the son of Jephunneh; he shall see it, and to him
will I give the land that he hath
trodden upon, and to his children, because he hath wholly followed the LORD.
except
Caleb son of Jephunneh. He
will see it, and I
will give him and his descendants the land on which he has set foot, because he followed the LORD wholeheartedly.”
But Joshua the son of
Nun, which standeth before thee, he shall go in thither:
encourage him: for he shall cause Israel to
inherit it.
Joshua son of
Nun, who stands before you,
will enter it.
Encourage him, for he
will enable Israel to
inherit the land.
Moreover your little ones, which ye said should be a prey, and your children, which in that day had no knowledge between good and evil, they shall go in thither, and unto them will I give it, and they shall possess it.
And the little ones you said would become
captives—your children who on that day did not know good from evil—
will enter the land that I
will give them, and they
will possess it.
Then ye answered and said unto me, We have
sinned against the LORD, we
will go up and fight, according to all that the LORD our God commanded us. And when ye had
girded on every man his weapons of war, ye were ready to go up into the hill.
“We have
sinned against the LORD,” you replied. “We
will go up and fight, as the LORD our God has commanded us.” Then each of you put on his weapons of war, thinking it easy to go up into the hill country.
And command thou the people, saying, Ye are to pass through the coast of your brethren the children of
Esau, which dwell in
Seir; and they shall be afraid of you: take ye good
heed unto
yourselves therefore:
and command the people: ‘You
will pass through the territory of your brothers, the descendants of
Esau, who live in
Seir. They
will be afraid of you, so you must be very careful.
Meddle not with them; for I
will not give you of their land, no, not so much as a
footbreadth; because I have given mount
Seir unto
Esau for a possession.
Do not
provoke them, for I
will not give you any of their land, not even a
footprint, because I have given Mount
Seir to
Esau as his possession.
And the LORD said unto me, Distress not the Moabites, neither
contend with them in battle: for I
will not give thee of their land for a possession; because I have given Ar unto the children of Lot for a possession.
Then the LORD said to me, “Do not
harass the Moabites or
provoke them to war, for I
will not give you any of their land, because I have given Ar to the descendants of Lot as their possession.”
And when thou comest
nigh over against the children of
Ammon, distress them not, nor
meddle with them: for I
will not give thee of the land of the children of
Ammon any possession; because I have given it unto the children of Lot for a possession.
But when you get close to the
Ammonites, do not
harass them or
provoke them, for I
will not give you any of the land of the
Ammonites. I have given it to the descendants of Lot as their possession.”
This day
will I begin to put the
dread of thee and the fear of thee upon the nations that are under the whole heaven, who shall hear report of thee, and shall
tremble, and be in
anguish because of thee.
This very day I
will begin to put the
dread and fear of you upon all the nations under heaven. They
will hear the reports of you and
tremble in
anguish because of you.”
Let me pass through thy land: I will go along by the high way, I will neither turn unto the right hand nor to the left.
“Let us pass through your land; we will stay on the main road. We will not turn to the right or to the left.
Thou shalt sell me meat for money, that I may eat; and give me water for money, that I may drink: only I will pass through on my feet;
You can sell us food to eat and water to drink in exchange for silver. Only let us pass through on foot,
And the LORD said unto me, Fear him not: for I
will deliver him, and all his people, and his land, into thy hand; and thou shalt do unto him as thou
didst unto Sihon king of the
Amorites, which dwelt at
Heshbon.
But the LORD said to me, “Do not fear him, for I have delivered him into your hand, along with all his people and his land. Do to him as you did to Sihon king of the
Amorites, who lived in
Heshbon.”
And I commanded Joshua at that time, saying, Thine eyes have seen all that the LORD your God hath done unto these two kings: so shall the LORD do unto all the kingdoms
whither thou passest.
And at that time I commanded Joshua: “Your own eyes have seen all that the LORD your God has done to these two kings. The LORD will do the same to all the kingdoms you are about to enter.
Ye shall not fear them: for the LORD your God he shall fight for you.
Do not be afraid of them, for the LORD your God Himself will fight for you.”
Get thee up into the top of
Pisgah, and lift up thine eyes westward, and northward, and southward, and eastward, and behold it with thine eyes: for thou shalt not go over this Jordan.
Go to the top of
Pisgah and look to the west and north and south and east. See the land with your own eyes, for you
will not cross this Jordan.
But charge Joshua, and
encourage him, and
strengthen him: for he shall go over before this people, and he shall cause them to
inherit the land which thou shalt see.
But commission Joshua,
encourage him, and
strengthen him, for he
will cross over
ahead of the people and enable them to
inherit the land that you
will see.”
Keep therefore and do them; for this is your wisdom and your understanding in the sight of the nations, which shall hear all these statutes, and say, Surely this great nation is a wise and understanding people.
Observe them carefully, for this will show your wisdom and understanding in the sight of the peoples, who will hear of all these statutes and say, “Surely this great nation is a wise and understanding people.”
Specially the day that thou stoodest before the LORD thy God in
Horeb, when the LORD said unto me, Gather me the people together, and I
will make them hear my words, that they may learn to fear me all the days that they shall live upon the earth, and that they may teach their children.
The day you stood before the LORD your God at
Horeb, the LORD said to me, “Gather the people before Me to hear My words, so that they may learn to fear Me all the days they live on the earth, and that they may teach them to their children.”
But I must die in this land, I must not go over Jordan: but ye shall go over, and possess that good land.
For I will not be crossing the Jordan, because I must die in this land. But you shall cross over and take possession of that good land.
I call heaven and earth to witness against you this day, that ye shall soon utterly perish from off the land
whereunto ye go over Jordan to possess it; ye shall not
prolong your days upon it, but shall utterly be destroyed.
I call heaven and earth as witnesses against you this day that you will quickly perish from the land that you are crossing the Jordan to possess. You will not live long upon it, but will be utterly destroyed.
And the LORD shall
scatter you among the nations, and ye shall be left few in number among the heathen,
whither the LORD shall lead you.
Then the LORD
will scatter you among the peoples, and only a few of you
will survive among the nations to which the LORD
will drive you.
And there ye shall serve gods, the work of men’s hands, wood and stone, which neither see, nor hear, nor eat, nor smell.
And there you will serve man-made gods of wood and stone, which cannot see or hear or eat or smell.
But if from thence thou shalt seek the LORD thy God, thou shalt find him, if thou seek him with all thy heart and with all thy soul.
But if from there you will seek the LORD your God, you will find Him if you seek Him with all your heart and with all your soul.
When thou art in
tribulation, and all these things are come upon thee, even in the latter days, if thou turn to the LORD thy God, and shalt be
obedient unto his voice;
When you are in distress and all these things have happened to you, then in later days you
will return to the LORD your God and
listen to His voice.
(For the LORD thy God is a
merciful God;) he
will not
forsake thee, neither destroy thee, nor
forget the covenant of thy fathers which he
sware unto them.
For the LORD your God is a
merciful God; He
will not
abandon you or destroy you or
forget the covenant with your fathers, which He
swore to them by oath.
Thou shalt not take the name of the LORD thy God in vain: for the LORD will not hold him guiltless that taketh his name in vain.
You shall not take the name of the LORD your God in vain, for the LORD
will not leave
anyone unpunished who takes His name in vain.
Now therefore why should we die? for this great fire
will consume us: if we hear the voice of the LORD our God any more, then we shall die.
But now, why should we die? For this great fire
will consume us, and we
will die, if we hear the voice of the LORD our God any longer.
Go thou near, and hear all that the LORD our God shall say: and speak thou unto us all that the LORD our God shall speak unto thee; and we will hear it, and do it.
Go near and
listen to all that the LORD our God says. Then you can tell us everything the LORD our God tells you; we
will listen and obey.”
But as for thee, stand thou here by me, and I will speak unto thee all the commandments, and the statutes, and the judgments, which thou shalt teach them, that they may do them in the land which I give them to possess it.
But you stand here with Me, that I may speak to you all the commandments and statutes and ordinances you are to teach them to follow in the land that I am giving them to possess.”
Ye shall walk in all the ways which the LORD your God hath commanded you, that ye may live, and that it may be well with you, and that ye may
prolong your days in the land which ye shall possess.
You must walk in all the ways that the LORD your God has commanded you, so that you may live and
prosper and
prolong your days in the land that you
will possess.
(For the LORD thy God is a
jealous God among you) lest the anger of the LORD thy God be
kindled against thee, and destroy thee from off the face of the earth.
For the LORD your God, who is among you, is a
jealous God. Otherwise the anger of the LORD your God
will be
kindled against you, and He
will wipe you off the face of the earth.
And it shall be our righteousness, if we observe to do all these commandments before the LORD our God, as he hath commanded us.
And if we are careful to observe every one of these commandments before the LORD our God, as He has commanded us, then that will be our righteousness.”
For they
will turn away thy son from following me, that they may serve other gods: so
will the anger of the LORD be
kindled against you, and destroy thee suddenly.
because they will turn your sons away from following Me to serve other gods. Then the anger of the LORD will burn against you, and He will swiftly destroy you.
And repayeth them that
hate him to their face, to destroy them: he
will not be
slack to him that hateth him, he
will repay him to his face.
But those who
hate Him He repays to their faces with destruction; He
will not
hesitate to repay to his face the one who hates Him.
Wherefore it shall come to pass, if ye
hearken to these judgments, and keep, and do them, that the LORD thy God shall keep unto thee the covenant and the mercy which he
sware unto thy fathers:
If you
listen to these ordinances and keep them carefully, then the LORD your God
will keep His covenant and the loving devotion that He
swore to your fathers.
And he
will love thee, and
bless thee, and multiply thee: he
will also
bless the fruit of thy
womb, and the fruit of thy land, thy corn, and thy wine, and thine oil, the increase of thy
kine, and the flocks of thy sheep, in the land which he
sware unto thy fathers to give thee.
He
will love you and
bless you and multiply you. He
will bless the fruit of your
womb and the produce of your land—your grain, new wine, and oil, the young of your herds and the lambs of your flocks—in the land that He
swore to your fathers to give you.
Thou shalt be blessed above all people: there shall not be male or female barren among you, or among your cattle.
You
will be blessed above all peoples; among you there
will be no barren man or woman or
livestock.
And the LORD
will take away from thee all sickness, and
will put none of the evil diseases of Egypt, which thou knowest, upon thee; but
will lay them upon all them that
hate thee.
And the LORD
will remove from you all sickness. He
will not lay upon you any of the terrible diseases you knew in Egypt, but He
will inflict them on all who
hate you.
And thou shalt
consume all the people which the LORD thy God shall deliver thee; thine eye shall have no
pity upon them: neither shalt thou serve their gods; for that
will be a
snare unto thee.
You must destroy all the peoples the LORD your God
will deliver to you. Do not look on them with
pity. Do not worship their gods, for that
will be a
snare to you.
The great temptations which thine eyes saw, and the signs, and the wonders, and the mighty hand, and the stretched out arm, whereby the LORD thy God brought thee out: so shall the LORD thy God do unto all the people of whom thou art afraid.
the great trials that you saw, the signs and wonders, and the mighty hand and outstretched arm by which the LORD your God brought you out. The LORD your God will do the same to all the peoples you now fear.
Moreover the LORD thy God
will send the
hornet among them, until they that are left, and hide themselves from thee, be destroyed.
Moreover, the LORD your God
will send the
hornet against them until even the survivors hiding from you have perished.
And the LORD thy God
will put out those nations before thee by little and little: thou mayest not
consume them at once, lest the beasts of the field increase upon thee.
The LORD your God
will drive out these nations before you little by little. You
will not be enabled to
eliminate them all at once, or the wild animals would multiply around you.
But the LORD thy God shall deliver them unto thee, and shall destroy them with a mighty destruction, until they be destroyed.
But the LORD your God will give them over to you and throw them into great confusion, until they are destroyed.
And he shall deliver their kings into thine hand, and thou shalt destroy their name from under heaven: there shall no man be able to stand before thee, until thou have destroyed them.
He
will hand their kings over to you, and you
will wipe out their names from under heaven. No one
will be able to stand against you; you
will annihilate them.
The
graven images of their gods shall ye burn with fire: thou shalt not desire the silver or gold that is on them, nor take it unto thee, lest thou be
snared therein: for it is an
abomination to the LORD thy God.
You must burn up the images of their gods; do not
covet the silver and gold that is on them or take it for
yourselves, or you
will be ensnared by it; for it is
detestable to the LORD your God.
Neither shalt thou bring an
abomination into thine house, lest thou be a
cursed thing like it: but thou shalt utterly
detest it, and thou shalt utterly
abhor it; for it is a
cursed thing.
And you must not bring any
detestable thing into your house, or you, like it,
will be set apart for destruction. You are to utterly
detest and
abhor it, because it is set apart for destruction.
A land wherein thou shalt eat bread without
scarceness, thou shalt not lack any thing in it; a land whose stones are iron, and out of whose hills thou mayest
dig brass.
a land where you
will eat food without
scarcity, where you
will lack nothing; a land whose rocks are iron and whose hills are ready to be mined for copper.
Then thine heart be lifted up, and thou
forget the LORD thy God, which brought thee forth out of the land of Egypt, from the house of
bondage;
then your heart
will become proud, and you
will forget the LORD your God who brought you out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of slavery.
And it shall be, if thou do at all
forget the LORD thy God, and walk after other gods, and serve them, and worship them, I
testify against you this day that ye shall surely perish.
If you ever
forget the LORD your God and go after other gods to worship and bow down to them, I
testify against you
today that you
will surely perish.
As the nations which the LORD destroyeth before your face, so shall ye perish; because ye would not be
obedient unto the voice of the LORD your God.
Like the nations that the LORD has destroyed before you, so you will perish if you do not obey the LORD your God.
Understand therefore this day, that the LORD thy God is he which goeth over before thee; as a
consuming fire he shall destroy them, and he shall bring them down before thy face: so shalt thou drive them out, and destroy them quickly, as the LORD hath said unto thee.
But understand that
today the LORD your God goes across
ahead of you as a
consuming fire; He
will destroy them and
subdue them before you. And you
will drive them out and
annihilate them swiftly, as the LORD has promised you.
Let me alone, that I may destroy them, and
blot out their name from under heaven: and I
will make of thee a nation mightier and greater than they.
Leave Me alone, so that I may destroy them and
blot out their name from under heaven. Then I
will make you into a nation mightier and greater than they are.”
Lest the land whence thou broughtest us out say, Because the LORD was not able to bring them into the land which he promised them, and because he
hated them, he hath brought them out to
slay them in the wilderness.
Otherwise, those in the land from which You brought us out
will say, ‘Because the LORD was not able to bring them into the land He had promised them, and because He
hated them, He has brought them out to kill them in the wilderness.’
