I was
dumb with silence, I held my peace, even from good; and my sorrow was
stirred.
I was speechless and still; I remained silent, even from speaking good, and my sorrow was
stirred.
My heart was hot
within me, while I was
musing the fire burned: then spake I
with my tongue,
My heart grew hot
within me; as I
mused, the fire burned. Then I spoke
with my tongue:
When thou
with rebukes
dost correct man for iniquity, thou makest his beauty to
consume away like a
moth: surely every man is vanity.
Selah.
Hear my prayer, O LORD, and give ear unto my cry; hold not thy peace at my tears: for I am a stranger
with thee, and a
sojourner, as all my fathers were.
Hear my prayer, O LORD, and give ear to my cry for help; do not be
deaf to my
weeping. For I am a foreigner dwelling
with You, a stranger like all my fathers.
I delight to do thy will, O my God:
yea, thy law is
within my heart.
I delight to do Your will, O my God; Your law is within my heart.”
I have not
hid thy righteousness
within my heart; I have declared thy faithfulness and thy salvation: I have not concealed thy lovingkindness and thy truth from the great congregation.
I have not covered up Your righteousness in my heart; I have declared Your faithfulness and salvation; I have not concealed Your loving devotion and faithfulness from the great assembly.
Withhold not thou thy tender
mercies from me, O LORD: let thy lovingkindness and thy truth continually preserve me.
O LORD, do not
withhold Your mercy from me; Your loving devotion and faithfulness will always guard me.
For innumerable evils have compassed me about: mine
iniquities have taken hold upon me, so that I am not able to look up; they are more than the hairs of mine head: therefore my heart faileth me.
For evils
without number
surround me; my sins have overtaken me, so that I cannot see. They are more than the hairs of my head, and my heart has failed
within me.
Mine enemies speak evil of me, When shall he die, and his name perish?
My enemies say
with malice: “When will he die and be forgotten?”
When I remember these things, I pour out my soul in me: for I had gone
with the multitude, I went
with them to the house of God,
with the voice of joy and praise,
with a multitude that kept
holyday.
These things come to mind as I pour out my soul: how I walked
with the multitude, leading the
procession to the house of God
with shouts of joy and praise.
Why art thou cast down, O my soul? and why art thou disquieted in me? hope thou in God: for I shall yet praise him for the help of his countenance.
Why are you
downcast, O my soul? Why the unease
within me? Put your hope in God, for I will yet praise Him for the salvation of His presence.
O my God, my soul is cast down within me: therefore will I remember thee from the land of Jordan, and of the Hermonites, from the hill Mizar.
O my God, my soul despairs
within me. Therefore I remember You from the land of Jordan and the peaks of
Hermon— even from Mount Mizar.
Yet the LORD will command his lovingkindness in the
daytime, and in the night his song shall be
with me, and my prayer unto the God of my life.
The LORD decrees His loving devotion by day, and at night His song is with me as a prayer to the God of my life.
As with a sword in my bones, mine enemies reproach me; while they say daily unto me, Where is thy God?
Like the
crushing of my bones, my enemies
taunt me, while they say to me all day long, “Where is your God?”
Why art thou cast down, O my soul? and why art thou disquieted within me? hope thou in God: for I shall yet praise him, who is the health of my countenance, and my God.
Why are you
downcast, O my soul? Why the unease
within me? Put your hope in God, for I will yet praise Him, my
Savior and my God.
Then will I go unto the altar of God, unto God my exceeding joy:
yea, upon the
harp will I praise thee, O God my God.
Then I will go to the altar of God, to God, my greatest joy. I will praise You
with the
harp, O God, my God.
Why art thou cast down, O my soul? and why art thou disquieted within me? hope in God: for I shall yet praise him, who is the health of my countenance, and my God.
Why are you
downcast, O my soul? Why the unease
within me? Put your hope in God, for I will yet praise Him, my
Savior and my God.
We have heard
with our ears, O God, our fathers have told us, what work thou
didst in their days, in the times of old.
We have heard with our ears, O God; our fathers have told us the work You did in their days, in the days of old.
How thou
didst drive out the heathen
with thy hand, and plantedst them; how thou
didst afflict the people, and cast them out.
With Your hand You drove out the nations and planted our fathers there; You
crushed the peoples and cast them out.
But thou hast cast off, and put us to shame; and goest not forth with our armies.
But You have rejected and humbled us; You no longer go forth with our armies.
Though thou hast
sore broken us in the place of
dragons, and covered us
with the shadow of death.
But You have
crushed us in the
lair of jackals; You have covered us
with deepest darkness.
Gird thy sword upon thy
thigh, O most mighty,
with thy glory and thy majesty.
Thou lovest righteousness, and hatest wickedness: therefore God, thy God, hath
anointed thee
with the oil of
gladness above thy fellows.
You have loved righteousness and
hated wickedness; therefore God, your God, has
anointed you above your companions
with the oil of joy.
All thy garments smell of
myrrh, and
aloes, and
cassia, out of the ivory palaces, whereby they have made thee
glad.
Kings’ daughters were among thy honourable women: upon thy right hand did stand the queen in gold of
Ophir.
The daughters of kings are among your honored women; the queen stands at your right hand, adorned
with the gold of
Ophir.
And the daughter of Tyre shall be there with a gift; even the rich among the people shall intreat thy favour.
The Daughter of Tyre will come with a gift; men of wealth will seek your favor.
The king’s daughter is all glorious within: her clothing is of wrought gold.
All glorious is the princess in her chamber; her
gown is
embroidered with gold.
With gladness and
rejoicing shall they be brought: they shall enter into the king’s palace.
They are led in
with joy and
gladness; they enter the palace of the king.
Though the waters thereof
roar and be troubled, though the mountains
shake with the swelling thereof.
Selah.
God is in the midst of her; she shall not be moved: God shall help her, and that right early.
God is within her; she will not be moved. God will help her when morning dawns.
The LORD of hosts is
with us; the God of Jacob is our refuge.
Selah.
The LORD of Hosts is
with us; the God of Jacob is our fortress.
Selah The LORD of hosts is
with us; the God of Jacob is our refuge.
Selah.
The LORD of Hosts is
with us; the God of Jacob is our fortress.
Selah O
clap your hands, all ye people;
shout unto God
with the voice of triumph.
Clap your hands, all you peoples;
shout unto God
with a voice of triumph.
God is gone up
with a
shout, the LORD
with the sound of a
trumpet.
God has ascended amid shouts of joy, the LORD with the sound of the horn.
For God is the King of all the earth: sing ye praises with understanding.
For God is King of all the earth; sing profound praises to Him.
Thou breakest the ships of
Tarshish with an east wind.
We have thought of thy lovingkindness, O God, in the midst of thy temple.
Within Your temple, O God, we
contemplate Your loving devotion.
I will
incline mine ear to a parable: I will open my dark saying upon the
harp.
Man that is in honour, and understandeth not, is like the beasts that perish.
A man who has riches without understanding is like the beasts that perish.
Gather my saints together unto me; those that have made a covenant with me by sacrifice.
“Gather to Me My saints, who made a covenant with Me by sacrifice.”
When thou sawest a
thief, then thou consentedst
with him, and hast been
partaker with adulterers.
When you see a
thief, you
befriend him, and throw in your lot
with adulterers.
Now consider this, ye that
forget God, lest I
tear you in pieces, and there be none to deliver.
Now consider this, you who
forget God, lest I
tear you to pieces,
with no one to
rescue you:
Purge me
with hyssop, and I shall be clean: wash me, and I shall be whiter than snow.
Purify me
with hyssop, and I will be clean; wash me, and I will be whiter than snow.
Create in me a clean heart, O God; and renew a right spirit
within me.
Create in me a clean heart, O God, and renew a right spirit
within me.
Restore unto me the joy of thy salvation; and
uphold me
with thy free spirit.
Restore to me the joy of Your salvation, and
sustain me
with a willing spirit.
Then shalt thou be pleased with the sacrifices of righteousness, with burnt offering and whole burnt offering: then shall they offer bullocks upon thine altar.
Then You will delight in righteous sacrifices, in whole burnt offerings; then bulls will be offered on Your altar.
There were they in great fear, where no fear was: for God hath scattered the bones of him that encampeth against thee: thou hast put them to shame, because God hath
despised them.
There they are,
overwhelmed with dread, where there was nothing to fear. For God has scattered the bones of those who besieged you. You put them to shame, for God has
despised them.
For strangers are risen up against me, and oppressors seek after my soul: they have not set God before them.
Selah.
For strangers rise up against me, and
ruthless men seek my life— men
with no regard for God.
Selah Behold, God is mine helper: the Lord is
with them that
uphold my soul.
Surely God is my helper; the Lord is the
sustainer of my soul.
He shall reward evil unto mine enemies: cut them off in thy truth.
He will reward my enemies with evil. In Your faithfulness, destroy them.
My heart is
sore pained
within me: and the terrors of death are fallen upon me.
My heart murmurs
within me, and the terrors of death
assail me.
Day and night they go about it upon the walls thereof: mischief also and sorrow are in the midst of it.
Day and night they
encircle the walls, while
malice and trouble lie
within.
Wickedness is in the midst thereof:
deceit and
guile depart not from her streets.
Destruction is
within; oppression and
deceit never leave the streets.
We took sweet counsel together, and walked unto the house of God in company.
We shared sweet
fellowship together; we walked
with the crowd into the house of God.
Let death seize upon them, and let them go down quick into
hell: for wickedness is in their dwellings, and among them.
Let death seize them by surprise; let them go down to
Sheol alive, for evil is
with them in their homes.
He hath delivered my soul in peace from the battle that was against me: for there were many with me.
He redeems my soul in peace from the battle
waged against me, even though many
oppose me.
He hath put forth his hands against such as be at peace with him: he hath broken his covenant.
My companion attacks his friends; he
violates his covenant.
My soul is among lions: and I lie even among them that are set on fire, even the sons of men, whose teeth are spears and arrows, and their tongue a sharp sword.
My soul is among the lions; I lie down
with ravenous beasts—
with men whose teeth are spears and arrows, whose tongues are sharp swords.
Yea, in heart ye work wickedness; ye
weigh the violence of your hands in the earth.
No, in your hearts you
devise injustice;
with your hands you
mete out violence on the earth.
Before your pots can feel the thorns, he shall take them away as
with a
whirlwind, both living, and in his wrath.
Before your pots can feel the burning thorns— whether green or dry— He will
sweep them away.
They run and prepare themselves
without my fault:
awake to help me, and behold.
For no fault of my own, they move swiftly to attack me. Arise to help me, and take notice.
Behold, they
belch out
with their mouth: swords are in their lips: for who, say they,
doth hear?
See what they
spew from their mouths— sharp words from their lips: “For who can hear us?”
That thy beloved may be delivered; save with thy right hand, and hear me.
Respond and save us
with Your right hand, that Your beloved may be delivered.
Wilt not thou, O God, which hadst cast us off? and thou, O God, which
didst not go out
with our armies?
Have You not rejected us, O God? Will You no longer march out, O God, with our armies?
Through God we shall do
valiantly: for he it is that shall
tread down our enemies.
With God we will perform
with valor, and He will
trample our enemies.
They fully intend to cast him down from his lofty
perch; they delight in lies;
with their mouths they
bless, but inwardly they
curse.
Selah O God, thou art my God; early will I seek thee: my soul thirsteth for thee, my flesh longeth for thee in a dry and
thirsty land, where no water is;
O God, You are my God. Earnestly I seek You; my soul thirsts for You. My body yearns for You in a dry and
weary land
without water.
My soul shall be satisfied as
with marrow and fatness; and my mouth shall praise thee
with joyful lips:
My soul is satisfied as with the richest of foods; with joyful lips my mouth will praise You.
That they may shoot in secret at the perfect: suddenly do they shoot at him, and fear not.
But God shall shoot at them
with an
arrow; suddenly shall they be wounded.
But God will shoot them with arrows; suddenly they will be wounded.
Blessed is the man whom thou choosest, and causest to approach unto thee, that he may dwell in thy courts: we shall be satisfied with the goodness of thy house, even of thy holy temple.
Blessed is the one You choose and bring near to dwell in Your courts! We are filled
with the goodness of Your house, the
holiness of Your temple.
By terrible things in righteousness
wilt thou answer us, O God of our salvation; who art the confidence of all the ends of the earth, and of them that are
afar off upon the sea:
With awesome deeds of righteousness You answer us, O God of our salvation, the hope of all the ends of the earth and of the
farthest seas.
Which by his strength setteth fast the mountains; being
girded with power:
You formed the mountains by Your power, having
girded Yourself with might.
Thou visitest the earth, and waterest it: thou greatly enrichest it with the river of God, which is full of water: thou preparest them corn, when thou hast so provided for it.
You attend to the earth and water it;
with abundance You
enrich it. The streams of God are full of water, for You prepare our grain by providing for the earth.
Thou waterest the ridges thereof abundantly: thou settlest the furrows thereof: thou makest it soft with showers: thou blessest the springing thereof.
You
soak its furrows and level its ridges; You
soften it
with showers and
bless its growth.
Thou crownest the year with thy goodness; and thy paths drop fatness.
You crown the year
with Your
bounty, and Your paths overflow
with plenty.
They drop upon the pastures of the wilderness: and the little hills
rejoice on every side.
The pastures of the wilderness overflow; the hills are
robed with joy.
The pastures are clothed
with flocks; the valleys also are covered over
with corn; they
shout for joy, they also sing.
The pastures are clothed
with flocks, and the valleys are decked
with grain. They
shout in triumph; indeed, they sing.
I will go into thy house with burnt offerings: I will pay thee my vows,
I will enter Your house
with burnt offerings; I will
fulfill my vows to You—
I will offer unto thee burnt sacrifices of fatlings,
with the incense of rams; I will offer bullocks
with goats.
Selah.
I will offer You fatlings as burnt offerings,
with the
fragrant smoke of rams; I will offer bulls and goats.
Selah I
cried unto him
with my mouth, and he was
extolled with my tongue.
I
cried out to Him
with my mouth and praised Him
with my tongue.
Blessed be God, which hath not turned away my prayer, nor his mercy from me.
Blessed be God, who has not rejected my prayer or
withheld from me His loving devotion!
God setteth the solitary in families: he bringeth out those which are bound
with chains: but the
rebellious dwell in a dry land.
God settles the
lonely in families; He leads the prisoners out to prosperity, but the
rebellious dwell in a sun-
scorched land.
Though ye have
lien among the pots, yet shall ye be as the wings of a
dove covered
with silver, and her feathers
with yellow gold.
Though you lie down among the sheepfolds, the wings of the
dove are covered
with silver, and her feathers
with shimmering gold.”
Blessed be the Lord, who daily loadeth us
with benefits, even the God of our salvation.
Selah.
Blessed be the Lord, who daily bears our burden, the God of our salvation.
Selah The singers went before, the players on instruments followed after; among them were the damsels playing
with timbrels.
The singers lead the way, the musicians follow after, among the maidens playing tambourines.
There is little Benjamin
with their ruler, the princes of Judah and their council, the princes of
Zebulun, and the princes of
Naphtali.
There is Benjamin, the youngest, ruling them, the princes of Judah in their company, the princes of
Zebulun and of
Naphtali.
Rebuke the company of
spearmen, the multitude of the bulls,
with the
calves of the people, till every one submit himself
with pieces of silver:
scatter thou the people that delight in war.
Rebuke the beast in the reeds, the
herd of bulls among the
calves of the nations, until it submits, bringing bars of silver.
Scatter the nations who delight in war.
They that
hate me
without a cause are more than the hairs of mine head: they that would destroy me, being mine enemies
wrongfully, are mighty: then I restored that which I took not away.
Those who
hate me
without cause outnumber the hairs of my head; many are those who would destroy me— my enemies for no reason. Though I did not
steal, I must repay.
When I
wept, and
chastened my soul
with fasting, that was to my reproach.
I
wept and fasted, but it brought me reproach.
But as for me, my prayer is unto thee, O LORD, in an acceptable time: O God, in the multitude of thy mercy hear me, in the truth of thy salvation.
But my prayer to You, O LORD, is for a time of favor. In Your abundant loving devotion, O God, answer me with Your sure salvation.
Hear me, O LORD; for thy lovingkindness is good: turn unto me according to the multitude of thy tender
mercies.
Answer me, O LORD, for Your loving devotion is good; turn to me in keeping
with Your great
compassion.
They gave me also gall for my meat; and in my
thirst they gave me
vinegar to drink.
Let them be
blotted out of the book of the living, and not be written
with the righteous.
May they be
blotted out of the Book of Life and not listed
with the righteous.
This also shall please the LORD better than an ox or
bullock that hath horns and
hoofs.
And this will please the LORD more than an ox, more than a bull
with horns and
hooves.
Let my mouth be filled with thy praise and with thy honour all the day.
My mouth is filled
with Your praise and
with Your
splendor all day long.
Let them be confounded and consumed that are
adversaries to my soul; let them be covered
with reproach and dishonour that seek my
hurt.
May the accusers of my soul be
ashamed and consumed; may those who seek my
harm be covered
with scorn and disgrace.
I will also praise thee
with the
psaltery, even thy truth, O my God: unto thee will I sing
with the
harp, O thou Holy One of Israel.
So I will praise You
with the
harp for Your faithfulness, O my God; I will sing praise to You
with the
lyre, O Holy One of Israel.
