And it came to pass, when his master heard the words of his wife, which she spake unto him, saying, After this manner did thy servant to me; that his
wrath was
kindled.
When his master heard the story his wife told him, saying, “This is what your slave did to me,” he burned with anger.
Cursed be their anger, for it was fierce; and their
wrath, for it was cruel: I will divide them in Jacob, and
scatter them in Israel.
Cursed be their anger, for it is strong, and their
wrath, for it is cruel! I will
disperse them in Jacob and
scatter them in Israel.
And in the greatness of thine
excellency thou hast overthrown them that rose up against thee: thou sentest forth thy
wrath, which consumed them as
stubble.
You overthrew Your
adversaries by Your great majesty. You unleashed Your burning
wrath; it consumed them like
stubble.
And my wrath shall wax hot, and I will kill you with the sword; and your wives shall be widows, and your children fatherless.
My anger will be
kindled, and I will kill you with the sword; then your wives will become widows and your children will be fatherless.
Now therefore let me alone, that my
wrath may wax hot against them, and that I may
consume them: and I will make of thee a great nation.
Now leave Me alone, so that My anger may burn against them and
consume them. Then I will make you into a great nation.”
And Moses
besought the LORD his God, and said, LORD, why
doth thy
wrath wax hot against thy people, which thou hast brought forth out of the land of Egypt with great power, and with a mighty hand?
But Moses sought the favor of the LORD his God, saying, “O LORD, why does Your anger burn against Your people, whom You brought out of the land of Egypt with great power and a mighty hand?
Wherefore should the Egyptians speak, and say, For mischief did he bring them out, to
slay them in the mountains, and to
consume them from the face of the earth? Turn from thy fierce
wrath, and
repent of this evil against thy people.
Why should the Egyptians declare, ‘He brought them out with evil intent, to kill them in the mountains and
wipe them from the face of the earth’? Turn from Your fierce anger and relent from doing
harm to Your people.
And Moses said unto Aaron, and unto
Eleazar and unto
Ithamar, his sons, Uncover not your heads, neither
rend your clothes; lest ye die, and lest
wrath come upon all the people: but let your brethren, the whole house of Israel,
bewail the burning which the LORD hath
kindled.
Then Moses said to Aaron and his sons
Eleazar and
Ithamar, “Do not let your hair become
disheveled and do not
tear your garments, or else you will die, and the LORD will be
angry with the whole congregation. But your brothers, the whole house of Israel, may
mourn on account of the fire that the LORD has
ignited.
But the Levites shall pitch round about the tabernacle of testimony, that there be no wrath upon the congregation of the children of Israel: and the Levites shall keep the charge of the tabernacle of testimony.
But the Levites are to camp around the tabernacle of the Testimony and watch over it, so that no wrath will fall on the congregation of Israel. So the Levites are responsible for the tabernacle of the Testimony.”
And while the flesh was yet between their teeth,
ere it was
chewed, the
wrath of the LORD was
kindled against the people, and the LORD
smote the people with a very great plague.
But while the meat was still between their teeth, before it was
chewed, the anger of the LORD burned against the people, and the LORD struck them with a severe plague.
And Moses said unto Aaron, Take a
censer, and put fire therein from off the altar, and put on incense, and go quickly unto the congregation, and make an
atonement for them: for there is
wrath gone out from the LORD; the plague is begun.
Moses said to Aaron, “Take your
censer, place fire from the altar in it, and add incense. Go quickly to the congregation and make
atonement for them, because
wrath has come out from the LORD; the plague has begun.”
And ye shall keep the charge of the sanctuary, and the charge of the altar: that there be no wrath any more upon the children of Israel.
And you shall attend to the duties of the sanctuary and of the altar, so that wrath may not fall on the Israelites again.
Phinehas, the son of
Eleazar, the son of Aaron the priest, hath turned my
wrath away from the children of Israel, while he was
zealous for my sake among them, that I consumed not the children of Israel in my jealousy.
“
Phinehas son of
Eleazar, the son of Aaron the priest, has turned My
wrath away from the Israelites; for he was
zealous for My sake among them, so that I did not
consume the Israelites in My zeal.
Remember, and
forget not, how thou provokedst the LORD thy God to
wrath in the wilderness: from the day that thou
didst depart out of the land of Egypt, until ye came unto this place, ye have been
rebellious against the LORD.
Remember this, and never
forget how you
provoked the LORD your God in the wilderness. From the day you left the land of Egypt until you reached this place, you have been rebelling against the LORD.
Also in
Horeb ye
provoked the LORD to
wrath, so that the LORD was
angry with you to have destroyed you.
For I was afraid of the anger and hot displeasure,
wherewith the LORD was
wroth against you to destroy you. But the LORD
hearkened unto me at that time also.
For I was afraid of the anger and
wrath that the LORD had directed against you, enough to destroy you. But the LORD
listened to me this time as well.
And at Taberah, and at Massah, and at
Kibroth-hattaavah, ye
provoked the LORD to
wrath.
You continued to
provoke the LORD at Taberah, at Massah, and at
Kibroth-hattaavah.
And then the LORD’S
wrath be
kindled against you, and he shut up the heaven, that there be no rain, and that the land yield not her fruit; and lest ye perish quickly from off the good land which the LORD giveth you.
or the anger of the LORD will be
kindled against you. He will shut the heavens so that there will be no rain, nor will the land yield its produce, and you will soon perish from the good land that the LORD is giving you.
And that the whole land thereof is
brimstone, and salt, and burning, that it is not sown, nor beareth, nor any grass groweth therein, like the overthrow of
Sodom, and
Gomorrah, Admah, and
Zeboim, which the LORD overthrew in his anger, and in his
wrath:
All its soil will be a burning waste of sulfur and salt, unsown and unproductive, with no plant growing on it, just like the destruction of
Sodom and
Gomorrah, Admah and Zeboiim, which the LORD overthrew in His fierce anger.
And the LORD rooted them out of their land in anger, and in
wrath, and in great
indignation, and cast them into another land, as it is this day.
The LORD uprooted them from their land in His anger,
rage, and great
wrath, and He cast them into another land, where they are
today.’
Were it not that I feared the
wrath of the enemy, lest their
adversaries should
behave themselves strangely, and lest they should say, Our hand is high, and the LORD hath not done all this.
if I had not
dreaded the
taunt of the enemy, lest their
adversaries misunderstand and say: ‘Our own hand has prevailed; it was not the LORD who did all this.’”
This we will do to them; we will even let them live, lest
wrath be upon us, because of the oath which we
sware unto them.
This is how we will treat them: We will let them live, so that no
wrath will fall on us because of the oath we
swore to them.”
Did not
Achan the son of Zerah commit a
trespass in the
accursed thing, and
wrath fell on all the congregation of Israel? and that man perished not alone in his iniquity.
Was not
Achan son of Zerah unfaithful regarding what was set apart for destruction, bringing
wrath upon the whole congregation of Israel? Yet it was not only
Achan who perished because of his sin!’”
Because thou obeyedst not the voice of the LORD, nor executedst his fierce wrath upon Amalek, therefore hath the LORD done this thing unto thee this day.
Because you did not obey the LORD or carry out His burning anger against Amalek, the LORD has done this to you
today.
And if so be that the king’s
wrath arise, and he say unto thee, Wherefore approached ye so
nigh unto the city when ye did fight? knew ye not that they would shoot from the wall?
if the king’s anger flares, he may ask you, ‘Why did you get so close to the city to fight? Did you not
realize they would shoot from
atop the wall?
Go ye,
enquire of the LORD for me, and for the people, and for all Judah, concerning the words of this book that is found: for great is the
wrath of the LORD that is
kindled against us, because our fathers have not
hearkened unto the words of this book, to do according unto all that which is written concerning us.
“Go and inquire of the LORD for me, for the people, and for all Judah concerning the words in this book that has been found. For great is the wrath of the LORD that burns against us because our fathers have not obeyed the words of this book by doing all that is written about us.”
Because they have
forsaken me, and have burned incense unto other gods, that they might
provoke me to anger with all the works of their hands; therefore my
wrath shall be
kindled against this place, and shall not be
quenched.
because they have
forsaken Me and burned incense to other gods, that they might
provoke Me to anger with all the works of their hands. My
wrath will be
kindled against this place and will not be
quenched.’
Notwithstanding the LORD turned not from the fierceness of his great
wrath,
wherewith his anger was
kindled against Judah, because of all the provocations that
Manasseh had
provoked him
withal.
Nevertheless, the LORD did not turn away from the
fury of His burning anger, which was
kindled against Judah because of all that
Manasseh had done to
provoke Him to anger.
Joab the son of Zeruiah began to number, but he finished not, because there fell
wrath for it against Israel; neither was the number put in the account of the chronicles of king David.
Joab son of Zeruiah began to count the men but did not finish. For because of this census
wrath came upon Israel, and the number was not entered in the Book of the Chronicles of King David.
And when the LORD saw that they humbled themselves, the word of the LORD came to Shemaiah, saying, They have humbled themselves; therefore I will not destroy them, but I will grant them some
deliverance; and my
wrath shall not be poured out upon Jerusalem by the hand of
Shishak.
When the LORD saw that they had humbled themselves, the word of the LORD came to Shemaiah, saying, “They have humbled themselves; I will not destroy them, but will soon grant them
deliverance. My
wrath will not be poured out on Jerusalem through
Shishak.
And when he humbled himself, the wrath of the LORD turned from him that he would not destroy him altogether: and also in Judah things went well.
Because
Rehoboam humbled himself, the anger of the LORD turned away from him, and He did not destroy him completely. Indeed, conditions were good in Judah.
And
Jehu the son of Hanani the
seer went out to meet him, and said to king
Jehoshaphat, Shouldest thou help the ungodly, and love them that
hate the LORD? therefore is
wrath upon thee from before the LORD.
Jehu son of Hanani the
seer went out to
confront him and said to King
Jehoshaphat, “Should you help the wicked and love those who
hate the LORD? Because of this, the
wrath of the LORD is upon you.
And what cause
soever shall come to you of your brethren that dwell in their cities, between blood and blood, between law and commandment, statutes and judgments, ye shall even
warn them that they
trespass not against the LORD, and so
wrath come upon you, and upon your brethren: this do, and ye shall not
trespass.
For every dispute that comes before you from your brothers who dwell in their cities—whether it regards
bloodshed or some other
violation of law, commandments, statutes, or ordinances—you are to
warn them, so that they will not
incur guilt before the LORD and
wrath will not come upon you and your brothers. Do this, and you will not
incur guilt.
And they left the house of the LORD God of their fathers, and served groves and idols: and
wrath came upon Judah and Jerusalem for this their
trespass.
They abandoned the house of the LORD, the God of their fathers, and served the Asherah poles and idols. So wrath came upon Judah and Jerusalem for this guilt of theirs.
But a prophet of the LORD was there, whose name was
Oded: and he went out before the host that came to Samaria, and said unto them, Behold, because the LORD God of your fathers was
wroth with Judah, he hath delivered them into your hand, and ye have slain them in a
rage that reacheth up unto heaven.
But a prophet of the LORD named
Oded was there, and he went out to meet the army that returned to Samaria. “Look,” he said to them, “because of His
wrath against Judah, the LORD, the God of your fathers, has delivered them into your hand. But you have slaughtered them in a
rage that reaches up to heaven.
Now hear me therefore, and deliver the
captives again, which ye have taken
captive of your brethren: for the fierce
wrath of the LORD is upon you.
Now therefore,
listen to me and return the
captives you took from your
kinsmen, for the fierce anger of the LORD is upon you.”
And said unto them, Ye shall not bring in the
captives hither: for whereas we have
offended against the LORD already, ye intend to add more to our sins and to our
trespass: for our
trespass is great, and there is fierce
wrath against Israel.
“You must not bring the
captives here,” they said, “for you are
proposing to bring guilt upon us from the LORD and to add to our sins and our guilt. For our guilt is great, and fierce anger is upon Israel.”
Wherefore the
wrath of the LORD was upon Judah and Jerusalem, and he hath delivered them to trouble, to
astonishment, and to
hissing, as ye see with your eyes.
Therefore, the
wrath of the LORD has fallen upon Judah and Jerusalem, and He has made them an object of terror,
horror, and
mockery, as you can see with your own eyes.
Now it is in mine heart to make a covenant with the LORD God of Israel, that his fierce wrath may turn away from us.
Now it is in my heart to make a covenant with the LORD, the God of Israel, so that His fierce anger will turn away from us.
Now be ye not stiffnecked, as your fathers were, but yield
yourselves unto the LORD, and enter into his sanctuary, which he hath
sanctified for ever: and serve the LORD your God, that the fierceness of his
wrath may turn away from you.
Now do not
stiffen your necks as your fathers did. Submit to the LORD and come to His sanctuary, which He has consecrated
forever. Serve the LORD your God, so that His fierce anger will turn away from you.
But
Hezekiah rendered not again according to the benefit done unto him; for his heart was lifted up: therefore there was
wrath upon him, and upon Judah and Jerusalem.
But because his heart was proud,
Hezekiah did not repay the favor shown to him. Therefore
wrath came upon him and upon Judah and Jerusalem.
Notwithstanding
Hezekiah humbled himself for the pride of his heart, both he and the inhabitants of Jerusalem, so that the
wrath of the LORD came not upon them in the days of
Hezekiah.
Then
Hezekiah humbled the pride of his heart—he and the people of Jerusalem—so that the
wrath of the LORD did not come upon them during the days of
Hezekiah.
Go,
enquire of the LORD for me, and for them that are left in Israel and in Judah, concerning the words of the book that is found: for great is the
wrath of the LORD that is poured out upon us, because our fathers have not kept the word of the LORD, to do after all that is written in this book.
“Go and inquire of the LORD for me and for those remaining in Israel and Judah concerning the words in the book that has been found. For great is the wrath of the LORD that has been poured out on us because our fathers have not kept the word of the LORD by doing all that is written in this book.”
Because they have
forsaken me, and have burned incense unto other gods, that they might
provoke me to anger with all the works of their hands; therefore my
wrath shall be poured out upon this place, and shall not be
quenched.
because they have
forsaken Me and burned incense to other gods, that they might
provoke Me to anger with all the works of their hands. My
wrath will be poured out upon this place and will not be
quenched.’
But they
mocked the messengers of God, and
despised his words, and misused his prophets, until the
wrath of the LORD arose against his people, till there was no remedy.
But they
mocked the messengers of God,
despising His words and
scoffing at His prophets, until the
wrath of the LORD against His people was
stirred up beyond remedy.
But after that our fathers had
provoked the God of heaven unto
wrath, he gave them into the hand of
Nebuchadnezzar the king of Babylon, the
Chaldean, who destroyed this house, and carried the people away into Babylon.
But since our fathers angered the God of heaven, He delivered them into the hand of
Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon, the
Chaldean who destroyed this temple and carried away the people to Babylon.
Whatsoever is commanded by the God of heaven, let it be
diligently done for the house of the God of heaven: for why should there be
wrath against the realm of the king and his sons?
Whatever is commanded by the God of heaven must be done
diligently for His house. For why should
wrath fall on the realm of the king and his sons?
For I was
ashamed to require of the king a band of soldiers and
horsemen to help us against the enemy in the way: because we had spoken unto the king, saying, The hand of our God is upon all them for good that seek him; but his power and his
wrath is against all them that
forsake him.
For I was
ashamed to ask the king for an
escort of soldiers and
horsemen to protect us from our enemies on the road, since we had told him, “The hand of our God is
gracious to all who seek Him, but His great anger is against all who
forsake Him.”
Let now our rulers of all the congregation stand, and let all them which have taken strange wives in our cities come at appointed times, and with them the elders of every city, and the judges thereof, until the fierce wrath of our God for this matter be turned from us.
Let our leaders represent the whole assembly. Then let
everyone in our towns who has married a foreign woman come at an appointed time, together with the elders and judges of each town, until the fierce anger of our God in this matter is turned away from us.”
Did not your fathers thus, and did not our God bring all this evil upon us, and upon this city? yet ye bring more
wrath upon Israel by
profaning the sabbath.
Did not your forefathers do the same things, so that our God brought all this
disaster on us and on this city? And now you are
rekindling His
wrath against Israel by
profaning the Sabbath!”
Likewise shall the ladies of Persia and Media say this day unto all the king’s princes, which have heard of the deed of the queen. Thus shall there arise too much contempt and wrath.
This very day the noble women of Persia and Media who have heard about the queen’s conduct will say the same thing to all the king’s officials, resulting in much contempt and wrath.
After these things, when the
wrath of king
Ahasuerus was
appeased, he remembered Vashti, and what she had done, and what was decreed against her.
Some time later, when the anger of King
Xerxes had
subsided, he remembered Vashti and what she had done, and what had been decreed against her.
And when
Haman saw that
Mordecai bowed not, nor did him reverence, then was
Haman full of
wrath.
And the king arising from the
banquet of wine in his
wrath went into the palace garden: and
Haman stood up to make request for his life to
Esther the queen; for he saw that there was evil determined against him by the king.
In his
fury, the king arose from drinking his wine and went to the palace garden, while
Haman stayed behind to
beg Queen
Esther for his life, for he realized that the king was
planning a terrible fate for him.
For resentment kills a
fool, and
envy slays the simple.
Oh that thou wouldest hide me in the grave, that thou wouldest keep me secret, until thy
wrath be past, that thou wouldest
appoint me a set time, and remember me!
If only You would hide me in
Sheol and
conceal me until Your anger has passed! If only You would
appoint a time for me and then remember me!
He teareth me in his wrath, who hateth me: he gnasheth upon me with his teeth; mine enemy sharpeneth his eyes upon me.
His anger has
torn me and opposed me; He gnashes His teeth at me. My
adversary pierces me with His eyes.
He hath also
kindled his
wrath against me, and he counteth me unto him as one of his enemies.
His anger burns against me, and He counts me among His enemies.
Be ye afraid of the sword: for wrath bringeth the punishments of the sword, that ye may know there is a judgment.
then you should fear the sword
yourselves, because
wrath brings punishment by the sword, so that you may know there is a judgment.”
When he is about to fill his
belly, God shall cast the
fury of his
wrath upon him, and shall rain it upon him while he is eating.
When he has filled his stomach, God will
vent His
fury upon him, raining it down on him as he eats.
The increase of his house shall depart, and his goods shall flow away in the day of his wrath.
The possessions of his house will be removed, flowing away on the day of God’s wrath.
His eyes shall see his destruction, and he shall drink of the
wrath of the
Almighty.
Let his eyes see his own destruction; let him drink for himself the
wrath of the
Almighty.
That the wicked is reserved to the day of destruction? they shall be brought forth to the day of wrath.
Indeed, the evil man is
spared from the day of
calamity, delivered from the day of
wrath.
Then was
kindled the
wrath of
Elihu the son of Barachel the Buzite, of the kindred of Ram: against Job was his
wrath kindled, because he justified himself rather than God.
This
kindled the anger of
Elihu son of Barachel the Buzite, of the family of Ram. He burned with anger against Job for
justifying himself rather than God,
Also against his three friends was his
wrath kindled, because they had found no answer, and yet had condemned Job.
and he burned with anger against Job’s three friends because they had failed to
refute Job, and yet had condemned him.
When
Elihu saw that there was no answer in the mouth of these three men, then his
wrath was
kindled.
But when he saw that the three men had no further reply, his anger was
kindled.
But the hypocrites in heart
heap up
wrath: they cry not when he bindeth them.
The godless in heart
harbor resentment; even when He binds them, they do not cry for help.
Because there is
wrath,
beware lest he take thee away with his stroke: then a great
ransom cannot deliver thee.
Be careful that no one lures you with riches; do not let a large
bribe lead you
astray.
Cast abroad the
rage of thy
wrath: and behold every one that is proud, and
abase him.
Unleash the
fury of your
wrath; look on every proud man and bring him low.
And it was so, that after the LORD had spoken these words unto Job, the LORD said to Eliphaz the Temanite, My
wrath is
kindled against thee, and against thy two friends: for ye have not spoken of me the thing that is right, as my servant Job hath.
After the LORD had spoken these words to Job, He said to Eliphaz the Temanite, “My
wrath is
kindled against you and your two friends. For you have not spoken about Me accurately, as My servant Job has.
Then shall he speak unto them in his
wrath, and
vex them in his
sore displeasure.
Then He rebukes them in His anger, and terrifies them in His
fury:
Kiss the Son, lest he be
angry, and ye perish from the way, when his
wrath is
kindled but a little. Blessed are all they that put their trust in him.
Kiss the Son, lest He be
angry and you perish in your rebellion, when His
wrath ignites in an instant. Blessed are all who take refuge in Him.
O LORD,
rebuke me not in thine anger, neither
chasten me in thy hot displeasure.
O LORD, do not
rebuke me in Your anger or discipline me in Your
wrath.
Thou shalt make them as a
fiery oven in the time of thine anger: the LORD shall
swallow them up in his
wrath, and the fire shall
devour them.
You will place them in a
fiery furnace at the time of Your appearing. In His
wrath the LORD will
engulf them, and the fire will
consume them.
O LORD,
rebuke me not in thy
wrath: neither
chasten me in thy hot displeasure.
O LORD, do not
rebuke me in Your anger or discipline me in Your
wrath.
Because of the voice of the enemy, because of the oppression of the wicked: for they cast iniquity upon me, and in
wrath they
hate me.
at the voice of the enemy, at the pressure of the wicked. For they release
disaster upon me and
revile me in their anger.
Before your pots can feel the thorns, he shall take them away as with a
whirlwind, both living, and in his
wrath.
Before your pots can feel the burning thorns— whether green or dry— He will
sweep them away.
Consume them in
wrath,
consume them, that they may not be: and let them know that God ruleth in Jacob unto the ends of the earth.
Selah.
Consume them in
wrath;
consume them till they are no more, so it may be known to the ends of the earth that God rules over Jacob.
Selah Pour out thine
indignation upon them, and let thy
wrathful anger take hold of them.
Pour out Your wrath upon them, and let Your burning anger overtake them.
Surely the wrath of man shall praise thee: the remainder of wrath shalt thou restrain.
Even the
wrath of man shall praise You; with the survivors of
wrath You will
clothe Yourself.
Therefore the LORD heard this, and was
wroth: so a fire was
kindled against Jacob, and anger also came up against Israel;
Therefore the LORD heard and was filled with
wrath; so a fire was
kindled against Jacob, and His anger
flared against Israel,
The
wrath of God came upon them, and
slew the fattest of them, and
smote down the chosen men of Israel.
God’s anger
flared against them, and He put to death their strongest and subdued the young men of Israel.
But he, being full of
compassion,
forgave their iniquity, and destroyed them not:
yea, many a time turned he his anger away, and did not
stir up all his
wrath.
And yet He was
compassionate; He
forgave their iniquity and did not destroy them. He often restrained His anger and did not
unleash His full
wrath.
He cast upon them the fierceness of his anger,
wrath, and
indignation, and trouble, by sending evil angels among them.
Pour out thy wrath upon the heathen that have not known thee, and upon the kingdoms that have not called upon thy name.
Pour out Your wrath on the nations that do not acknowledge You, on the kingdoms that refuse to call on Your name,
Thou hast taken away all thy
wrath: thou hast turned
thyself from the fierceness of thine anger.
You
withheld all Your
fury; You turned from Your burning anger.
Thy
wrath lieth hard upon me, and thou hast
afflicted me with all thy waves.
Selah.
Thy fierce wrath goeth over me; thy terrors have cut me off.
Your wrath has swept over me; Your terrors have destroyed me.
How long, LORD?
wilt thou hide
thyself for ever? shall thy
wrath burn like fire?
How long, O LORD? Will You hide
Yourself forever? Will Your
wrath keep burning like fire?
For we are consumed by thine anger, and by thy wrath are we troubled.
For we are consumed by Your anger and
terrified by Your
wrath.
For all our days are passed away in thy
wrath: we
spend our years as a tale that is told.
For all our days decline in Your
fury; we finish our years with a
sigh.
Who knoweth the power of thine anger? even according to thy fear, so is thy wrath.
Who knows the power of Your anger? Your
wrath matches the fear You are due.
Unto whom I
sware in my
wrath that they should not enter into my rest.
So I
swore on oath in My anger, “They shall never enter My rest.”
Because of thine
indignation and thy
wrath: for thou hast lifted me up, and cast me down.
Therefore he said that he would destroy them, had not Moses his chosen stood before him in the breach, to turn away his wrath, lest he should destroy them.
So He said He would destroy them— had not Moses His chosen one stood before Him in the breach to
divert His
wrath from destroying them.
So the anger of the LORD burned against His people, and He
abhorred His own inheritance.
The Lord at thy right hand shall strike through kings in the day of his wrath.
The Lord is at Your right hand; He will
crush kings in the day of His
wrath.
when their anger
flared against us, then they would have
swallowed us alive,
