Then God turned, and gave them up to worship the host of heaven; as it is written in the book of the prophets, O ye house of Israel, have ye offered to me slain beasts and sacrifices by the space of forty years in the wilderness?
But God turned away from them and gave them over to the worship of the host of heaven, as it is written in the book of the prophets: ‘Did you bring Me sacrifices and offerings forty years in the wilderness, O house of Israel?
And when they had fulfilled all that was
written of him, they took him down from the tree, and laid him in a
sepulchre.
When they had carried out all that was written about Him, they took Him down from the tree and laid Him in a tomb.
God hath fulfilled the same unto us their children, in that he hath raised up Jesus again; as it is also
written in the second
psalm, Thou art my Son, this day have I
begotten thee.
He has fulfilled for us, their children, by raising up Jesus. As it is
written in the second
Psalm: ‘You are My Son;
today I have become Your Father.’
And to this agree the words of the prophets; as it is written,
The words of the prophets agree with this, as it is written:
As touching the Gentiles which believe, we have
written and concluded that they observe no such thing, save only that they keep themselves from things offered to idols, and from blood, and from
strangled, and from
fornication.
As for the
Gentile believers, we have
written to them our decision that they must
abstain from food sacrificed to idols, from blood, from the meat of
strangled animals, and from sexual immorality.”
Then said Paul, I
wist not, brethren, that he was the high priest: for it is
written, Thou shalt not speak evil of the ruler of thy people.
“Brothers,” Paul replied, “I was not aware that he was the high priest, for it is written: ‘Do not speak evil about the ruler of your people.’”
But this I
confess unto thee, that after the way which they call heresy, so worship I the God of my fathers, believing all things which are
written in the law and in the prophets:
I do
confess to you, however, that I worship the God of our fathers according to the Way, which they call a sect. I believe everything that is laid down by the Law and
written in the Prophets,
For therein is the righteousness of God revealed from faith to faith: as it is written, The just shall live by faith.
For the gospel reveals the righteousness of God that comes by faith from start to finish, just as it is written: “The righteous will live by faith.”
Which
shew the work of the law
written in their hearts, their conscience also bearing witness, and their thoughts the mean while
accusing or else
excusing one another;)
So they show that the work of the law is
written on their hearts, their consciences also bearing witness, and their thoughts either
accusing or defending them
For the name of God is
blasphemed among the Gentiles through you, as it is
written.
As it is
written: “God’s name is
blasphemed among the Gentiles because of you.”
But he is a
Jew, which is one inwardly; and
circumcision is that of the heart, in the spirit, and not in the letter; whose praise is not of men, but of God.
No, a man is a
Jew because he is one inwardly, and
circumcision is a matter of the heart, by the Spirit, not by the
written code. Such a man’s praise does not come from men, but from God.
God
forbid:
yea, let God be true, but every man a
liar; as it is
written, That thou mightest be justified in thy sayings, and mightest overcome when thou art judged.
Certainly not! Let God be true and every man a
liar. As it is
written: “So that You may be proved right when You speak and victorious when You judge.”
As it is written, There is none righteous, no, not one:
As it is written: “There is no one righteous, not even one.
(As it is written, I have made thee a father of many nations,) before him whom he believed, even God, who quickeneth the dead, and calleth those things which be not as though they were.
As it is written: “I have made you a father of many nations.” He is our father in the presence of God, in whom he believed, the God who gives life to the dead and calls into being what does not yet exist.
Now it was not written for his sake alone, that it was imputed to him;
Now the words “it was credited to him” were written not only for Abraham,
But now we are delivered from the law, that being dead wherein we were held; that we should serve in newness of spirit, and not in the oldness of the letter.
But now, having died to what bound us, we have been released from the law, so that we serve in the new way of the Spirit, and not in the old way of the written code.
As it is written, For thy sake we are killed all the day long; we are accounted as sheep for the slaughter.
As it is written: “For Your sake we face death all day long; we are considered as sheep to be slaughtered.”
As it is
written, Jacob have I loved, but
Esau have I
hated.
So it is
written: “Jacob I loved, but
Esau I
hated.”
As it is
written, Behold, I lay in
Sion a stumblingstone and rock of offence: and
whosoever believeth on him shall not be
ashamed.
as it is
written: “See, I lay in
Zion a stone of
stumbling and a rock of
offense; and the one who believes in Him will never be put to shame.”
And how shall they
preach, except they be sent? as it is
written, How beautiful are the feet of them that
preach the gospel of peace, and bring
glad tidings of good things!
And how can they
preach unless they are sent? As it is
written: “How beautiful are the feet of those who bring good news!”
(According as it is
written, God hath given them the spirit of
slumber, eyes that they should not see, and ears that they should not hear;) unto this day.
as it is
written: “God gave them a spirit of
stupor, eyes that could not see, and ears that could not hear, to this very day.”
And so all Israel shall be saved: as it is
written, There shall come out of
Sion the Deliverer, and shall turn away
ungodliness from Jacob:
And so all Israel will be saved, as it is
written: “The Deliverer will come from
Zion; He will remove
godlessness from Jacob.
Do not
avenge yourselves, beloved, but leave room for God’s wrath. For it is
written: “
Vengeance is Mine; I will repay, says the Lord.”
For it is
written, As I live, saith the Lord, every
knee shall bow to me, and every tongue shall
confess to God.
It is
written: “As surely as I live, says the Lord, every
knee will bow before Me; every tongue will
confess to God.”
For even Christ pleased not himself; but, as it is written, The reproaches of them that reproached thee fell on me.
For even Christ did not please Himself, but as it is
written: “The insults of those who
insult You have fallen on Me.”
For
whatsoever things were
written aforetime were
written for our learning, that we through
patience and comfort of the scriptures might have hope.
For everything that was
written in the past was
written for our instruction, so that through
endurance and the encouragement of the Scriptures, we might have hope.
And that the Gentiles might
glorify God for his mercy; as it is
written, For this cause I will
confess to thee among the Gentiles, and sing unto thy name.
so that the Gentiles may
glorify God for His mercy. As it is
written: “Therefore I will praise You among the Gentiles; I will sing hymns to Your name.”
Nevertheless, brethren, I have written the more boldly unto you in some sort, as putting you in mind, because of the grace that is given to me of God,
However, I have written you a bold reminder on some points, because of the grace God has given me
But as it is written, To whom he was not spoken of, they shall see: and they that have not heard shall understand.
Rather, as it is written: “Those who were not told about Him will see, and those who have not heard will understand.”
For it is
written, I will destroy the wisdom of the wise, and will bring to nothing the understanding of the
prudent.
For it is
written: “I will destroy the wisdom of the wise; the intelligence of the intelligent I will
frustrate.”
That, according as it is written, He that glorieth, let him glory in the Lord.
Therefore, as it is
written: “Let him who boasts
boast in the Lord.”
But as it is written, Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man, the things which God hath prepared for them that love him.
Rather, as it is written: “No eye has seen, no ear has heard, no heart has imagined, what God has prepared for those who love Him.”
For the wisdom of this world is
foolishness with God. For it is
written, He taketh the wise in their own
craftiness.
For the wisdom of this world is
foolishness in God’s sight. As it is
written: “He catches the wise in their
craftiness.”
And these things, brethren, I have in a figure transferred to myself and to Apollos for your sakes; that ye might learn in us not to think of men above that which is
written, that no one of you be
puffed up for one against another.
Brothers, I have applied these things to myself and Apollos for your benefit, so that you may learn from us not to go beyond what is written. Then you will not take pride in one man over another.
For it is
written in the law of Moses, Thou shalt not
muzzle the mouth of the ox that treadeth out the corn.
Doth God take care for oxen?
For it is
written in the Law of Moses: “Do not
muzzle an ox while it is
treading out the grain.” Is it about oxen that God is concerned?
Or saith he it altogether for our sakes? For our sakes, no doubt, this is
written: that he that ploweth should
plow in hope; and that he that thresheth in hope should be
partaker of his hope.
Isn’t He actually speaking on our behalf? Indeed, this was
written for us, because when the
plowman plows and the
thresher threshes, they should also expect to share in the harvest.
But I have used none of these things: neither have I written these things, that it should be so done unto me: for it were better for me to die, than that any man should make my glorying void.
But I have not used any of these rights. And I am not writing this to suggest that something be done for me. Indeed, I would rather die than let
anyone nullify my
boast.
Neither be ye idolaters, as were some of them; as it is written, The people sat down to eat and drink, and rose up to play.
Do not be idolaters, as some of them were. As it is
written: “The people sat down to eat and to drink, and got up to
indulge in
revelry.”
Now all these things happened unto them for ensamples: and they are
written for our
admonition, upon whom the ends of the world are come.
Now these things happened to them as examples and were
written down as warnings for us, on whom the
fulfillment of the ages has come.
In the law it is written, With men of other tongues and other lips will I speak unto this people; and yet for all that will they not hear me, saith the Lord.
It is
written in the Law: “By strange tongues and foreign lips I will speak to this people, but even then they will not
listen to Me, says the Lord.”
And so it is
written, The first man Adam was made a living soul; the last Adam was made a
quickening spirit.
So it is written: “The first man Adam became a living being;” the last Adam a life-giving spirit.
So when this corruptible shall have put on incorruption, and this
mortal shall have put on immortality, then shall be brought to pass the saying that is
written, Death is
swallowed up in victory.
When the perishable has been clothed with the imperishable and the
mortal with immortality, then the saying that is
written will come to pass: “Death has been
swallowed up in victory.”
Ye are our epistle written in our hearts, known and read of all men:
Forasmuch as ye are manifestly declared to be the epistle of Christ ministered by us,
written not with ink, but with the Spirit of the living God; not in tables of stone, but in
fleshy tables of the heart.
It is clear that you are a letter from Christ, the result of our ministry, written not with ink but with the Spirit of the living God, not on tablets of stone but on tablets of human hearts.
But if the
ministration of death,
written and
engraven in stones, was glorious, so that the children of Israel could not
stedfastly behold the face of Moses for the glory of his countenance; which glory was to be done away:
Now if the ministry of death, which was engraved in letters on stone, came with such glory that the Israelites could not
gaze at the face of Moses because of its fleeting glory,
We having the same spirit of faith, according as it is written, I believed, and therefore have I spoken; we also believe, and therefore speak;
And in keeping with what is written: “I believed, therefore I have spoken,” we who have the same spirit of faith also believe and therefore speak,
As it is written, He that had gathered much had nothing over; and he that had gathered little had no lack.
As it is written: “He who gathered much had no excess, and he who gathered little had no shortfall.”
(As it is
written, He hath
dispersed abroad; he hath given to the poor: his righteousness remaineth for ever.
As it is
written: “He has scattered abroad His gifts to the poor; His righteousness endures
forever.”
For as many as are of the works of the law are under the
curse: for it is
written,
Cursed is every one that continueth not in all things which are
written in the book of the law to do them.
All who
rely on works of the law are under a
curse. For it is
written: “
Cursed is
everyone who does not continue to do everything
written in the Book of the Law.”
Christ hath redeemed us from the
curse of the law, being made a
curse for us: for it is
written,
Cursed is every one that hangeth on a tree:
Christ redeemed us from the
curse of the law by becoming a
curse for us. For it is
written: “
Cursed is
everyone who is hung on a tree.”
For it is
written, that Abraham had two sons, the one by a
bondmaid, the other by a
freewoman.
For it is written that Abraham had two sons, one by the slave woman and the other by the free woman.
For it is
written,
Rejoice, thou barren that bearest not; break forth and cry, thou that travailest not: for the
desolate hath many more children than she which hath an husband.
For it is
written: “
Rejoice, O barren woman, who bears no children; break forth and cry
aloud, you who have never
travailed; because more are the children of the
desolate woman than of her who has a husband.”
Ye see how large a letter I have written unto you with mine own hand.
See what large letters I am using to write to you with my own hand!
How that by revelation he made known unto me the
mystery; (as I wrote
afore in few words,
that is, the
mystery made known to me by revelation, as I have already
written briefly.
I Paul have
written it with mine own hand, I will repay it:
albeit I do not say to thee how thou owest unto me even thine own self besides.
I, Paul, write this with my own hand. I will repay it—not to mention that you owe me your very self.
Then said I, Lo, I come (in the volume of the book it is written of me,) to do thy will, O God.
Then I said, ‘Here I am, it is
written about Me in the
scroll: I have come to do Your will, O God.’”
To the general assembly and church of the
firstborn, which are
written in heaven, and to God the Judge of all, and to the spirits of just men made perfect,
in joyful assembly, to the congregation of the
firstborn,
enrolled in heaven. You have come to God the Judge of all, to the spirits of the righteous made perfect,
And I
beseech you, brethren, suffer the word of
exhortation: for I have
written a letter unto you in few words.
I
urge you, brothers, to bear with my word of
exhortation, for I have only
written to you briefly.
Because it is written, Be ye holy; for I am holy.
for it is written: “Be holy, because I am holy.”
By
Silvanus, a faithful brother unto you, as I suppose, I have
written briefly,
exhorting, and
testifying that this is the true grace of God wherein ye stand.
Through
Silvanus, whom I regard as a faithful brother, I have
written to you briefly,
encouraging you and
testifying that this is the true grace of God. Stand firm in it.
And account that the
longsuffering of our Lord is salvation; even as our beloved brother Paul also according to the wisdom given unto him hath
written unto you;
Consider also that our Lord’s
patience brings salvation, just as our beloved brother Paul also wrote you with the wisdom God gave him.
I write unto you, fathers, because ye have known him that is from the beginning. I write unto you, young men, because ye have overcome the wicked one. I write unto you, little children, because ye have known the Father.
I am writing to you, fathers, because you know Him who is from the beginning. I am writing to you, young men, because you have overcome the evil one. I have written to you, children, because you know the Father.
I have written unto you, fathers, because ye have known him that is from the beginning. I have written unto you, young men, because ye are strong, and the word of God abideth in you, and ye have overcome the wicked one.
I have written to you, fathers, because you know Him who is from the beginning. I have written to you, young men, because you are strong, and the word of God abides in you, and you have overcome the evil one.
I have not written unto you because ye know not the truth, but because ye know it, and that no lie is of the truth.
I have not written to you because you lack knowledge of the truth, but because you have it, and because no lie comes from the truth.
These things have I
written unto you concerning them that
seduce you.
I have
written these things to you about those who are trying to
deceive you.
These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God; that ye may know that ye have eternal life, and that ye may believe on the name of the Son of God.
I have written these things to you who believe in the name of the Son of God, so that you may know that you have eternal life.
I wrote unto the church: but Diotrephes, who loveth to have the preeminence among them, receiveth us not.
I have written to the church about this, but Diotrephes, who loves to be first, will not accept our instruction.
Blessed is he that readeth, and they that hear the words of this prophecy, and keep those things which are written therein: for the time is at hand.
Blessed is the one who reads
aloud the words of this prophecy, and blessed are those who hear and obey what is
written in it, because the time is near.
He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches; To him that overcometh will I give to eat of the hidden
manna, and will give him a white stone, and in the stone a new name
written, which no man knoweth saving he that receiveth it.
He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches. To the one who overcomes, I will give the hidden
manna. I will also give him a white stone inscribed with a new name, known only to the one who receives it.
And I saw in the right hand of him that sat on the throne a book
written within and on the
backside, sealed with seven seals.
Then I saw a
scroll in the right hand of the One seated on the throne. It had writing on both sides and was sealed with seven seals.
And all that dwell upon the earth shall worship him, whose names are not written in the book of life of the Lamb slain from the foundation of the world.
And all who dwell on the earth will worship the beast—all whose names have not been written from the foundation of the world in the Book of Life belonging to the Lamb who was slain.
And I looked, and, lo, a Lamb stood on the mount
Sion, and with him an hundred forty and four thousand, having his Father’s name
written in their foreheads.
Then I looked and saw the Lamb standing on Mount
Zion, and with Him 144,000 who had His name and His Father’s name
written on their foreheads.
And upon her
forehead was a name
written,
MYSTERY, BABYLON THE GREAT, THE MOTHER OF HARLOTS AND ABOMINATIONS OF THE EARTH.
And on her
forehead a
mysterious name was
written: BABYLON THE GREAT, THE MOTHER OF PROSTITUTES AND OF THE ABOMINATIONS OF THE EARTH.
The beast that thou sawest was, and is not; and shall
ascend out of the bottomless pit, and go into
perdition: and they that dwell on the earth shall wonder, whose names were not
written in the book of life from the foundation of the world, when they behold the beast that was, and is not, and yet is.
The beast that you saw—it was, and now is no more, but is about to come up out of the
Abyss and go to its destruction. And those who dwell on the earth whose names were not
written in the Book of Life from the foundation of the world will
marvel when they see the beast that was, and is not, and yet will be.
His eyes were as a flame of fire, and on his head were many crowns; and he had a name written, that no man knew, but he himself.
He has eyes like
blazing fire, and many royal crowns on His head. He has a name
written on Him that only He Himself knows.
And he hath on his
vesture and on his
thigh a name
written, KING OF KINGS, AND LORD OF LORDS.
And He has a name
written on His
robe and on His
thigh: KING OF KINGS AND LORD OF LORDS.
And I saw the dead, small and great, stand before God; and the books were opened: and another book was opened, which is the book of life: and the dead were judged out of those things which were written in the books, according to their works.
And I saw the dead, great and small, standing before the throne. And there were open books, and one of them was the Book of Life. And the dead were judged according to their deeds, as recorded in the books.
And
whosoever was not found
written in the book of life was cast into the lake of fire.
And if
anyone was found whose name was not
written in the Book of Life, he was thrown into the lake of fire.
And had a wall great and high, and had twelve gates, and at the gates twelve angels, and names
written thereon, which are the names of the twelve tribes of the children of Israel:
The city had a great and high wall with twelve gates inscribed with the names of the twelve tribes of Israel, and twelve angels at the gates.
And there shall in no wise enter into it any thing that defileth, neither
whatsoever worketh
abomination, or maketh a lie: but they which are
written in the Lamb’s book of life.
But nothing unclean will ever enter it, nor
anyone who practices an
abomination or a lie, but only those whose names are
written in the Lamb’s Book of Life.
For I
testify unto every man that heareth the words of the prophecy of this book, If any man shall add unto these things, God shall add unto him the plagues that are
written in this book:
I
testify to
everyone who hears the words of prophecy in this book: If
anyone adds to them, God will add to him the plagues described in this book.
And if any man shall take away from the words of the book of this prophecy, God shall take away his part out of the book of life, and out of the holy city, and from the things which are written in this book.
And if
anyone takes away from the words of this book of prophecy, God will take away his share in the tree of life and the holy city, which are described in this book.
And according to the several
dignities of the fathers, before the people, to offer to the Lord, as it is
written in the book of Moses: and thus did they in the morning.
As for the things that came to pass in his time, they were
written in former times, concerning those that
sinned, and did wickedly against the Lord above all people and kingdoms, and how they
grieved him exceedingly, so that the words of the Lord rose up against Israel.
These things are
written in the book of the stories of the kings of Judah, and every one of the acts that Josias did, and his glory, and his understanding in the law of the Lord, and the things that he had done before, and the things now recited, are reported in the book of the kings of Israel and
Judea.
But those things that are recorded of him, and of his uncleaness and impiety, are written in the chronicles of the kings.
And thou shalt find in the chronicles what is
written concerning these things, and shalt understand that that city was
rebellious, troubling both kings and cities:
And he commanded that
whosoever should
transgress,
yea, or make light of any thing
afore spoken or
written, out of his own house should a tree be taken, and he
thereon be
hanged, and all his goods seized for the king.
And the children of Israel, the priests, and the Levites, and others that were of the captivity, that were added unto them, did according to the things written in the book of Moses.
Now the copy of the commission, which was
written from Artexerxes the king, and came to
Esdras the priest and reader of the law of the Lord, is this that followeth;
And all the weight of them was written up the same hour.
For it was not my mind to be curious of the high things, but of such as pass by us daily, namely, wherefore Israel is given up as a reproach to the heathen, and for what cause the people whom thou hast loved is given over unto ungodly nations, and why the law of our forefathers is brought to
nought, and the
written covenants come to none effect,
But if I have found grace before thee, send the Holy Ghost into me, and I shall write all that hath been done in the world since the beginning, which were written in thy law, that men may find thy path, and that they which will live in the latter days may live.
And it came to pass, when the forty days were filled, that the Highest spake, saying, The first that thou hast
written publish openly, that the worthy and unworthy may read it:
And cause them to be written in paper: for they are faithful and true.
Jesus the son of Sirach of Jerusalem hath written in this book the instruction of understanding and knowledge, who out of his heart poured forth wisdom.
To bring upon us great plagues, such as never happened under the whole heaven, as it came to pass in Jerusalem, according to the things that were written in the law of Moses;
And as touching the evils that
Demetrius doeth to the Jews, we have
written unto him, saying, Wherefore thou made thy yoke heavy upon our friends and confederates the Jews?
