And they
roasted the
passover with fire according to the
ordinance: but the other holy offerings
sod they in pots,
and in caldrons,
and in pans,
and divided them speedily among all the people.
They
roasted the
Passover animals on the fire according to the regulation,
and they boiled the other holy offerings in pots, kettles,
and bowls and quickly brought them to all the people.
And afterward they made ready for themselves,
and for the priests: because the priests the sons of Aaron were
busied in offering of burnt offerings
and the fat until night; therefore the Levites prepared for themselves,
and for the priests the sons of Aaron.
Afterward, they made preparations for themselves
and for the priests, since the priests, the descendants of Aaron, were offering up burnt offerings
and fat until
nightfall. So the Levites made preparations for themselves
and for the priests, the descendants of Aaron.
And the singers the sons of
Asaph were in their place, according to the commandment of David,
and Asaph,
and Heman,
and Jeduthun the king’s
seer;
and the
porters waited at every gate; they might not depart from their service; for their brethren the Levites prepared for them.
The singers, the descendants of
Asaph, were at their stations according to the command of David,
Asaph, Heman,
and Jeduthun the king’s
seer.
And the gatekeepers at each gate did not need to leave their position, because their fellow Levites made preparations for them.
So all the service of the LORD was prepared the same day, to keep the
passover,
and to offer burnt offerings upon the altar of the LORD, according to the commandment of king
Josiah.
So on that day the entire service of the LORD was carried out for
celebrating the
Passover and offering burnt offerings on the altar of the LORD, according to the command of King
Josiah.
And the children of Israel that were present kept the
passover at that time,
and the feast of
unleavened bread seven days.
The Israelites who were present also observed the
Passover at that time, as well as the Feast of
Unleavened Bread for seven days.
And there was no
passover like to that kept in Israel from the days of Samuel the prophet; neither did all the kings of Israel keep such a
passover as
Josiah kept,
and the priests,
and the Levites,
and all Judah
and Israel that were present,
and the inhabitants of Jerusalem.
No such
Passover had been observed in Israel since the days of Samuel the prophet. None of the kings of Israel ever observed a
Passover like the one that
Josiah observed with the priests, the Levites, all Judah, the Israelites who were present,
and the people of Jerusalem.
After all this, when
Josiah had prepared the temple,
Necho king of Egypt came up to fight against Charchemish by Euphrates:
and Josiah went out against him.
After all this, when
Josiah had set the temple in order, Neco king of Egypt marched up to fight at Carchemish by the Euphrates,
and Josiah went out to
confront him.
But he sent ambassadors to him, saying, What have I to do with thee, thou king of Judah? I come not against thee this day, but against the house
wherewith I have war: for God commanded me to make
haste:
forbear thee from
meddling with God, who is with me, that he destroy thee not.
But Neco sent messengers to him, saying, “What is the issue between you
and me, O king of Judah? I have not come against you
today, but I am fighting another dynasty. God told me to
hurry; so stop
opposing God, who is with me, or He will destroy you!”
Nevertheless
Josiah would not turn his face from him, but
disguised himself, that he might fight with him,
and hearkened not unto the words of
Necho from the mouth of God,
and came to fight in the valley of
Megiddo.
Josiah, however, did not turn away from him; instead, in order to
engage him in battle, he
disguised himself. He did not
listen to Neco’s words from the mouth of God, but went to fight him on the Plain of
Megiddo.
And the archers shot at king
Josiah;
and the king said to his servants, Have me away; for I am
sore wounded.
There the archers shot King
Josiah, who said to his servants, “Take me away, for I am badly wounded!”
His servants therefore took him out of that
chariot,
and put him in the second
chariot that he had;
and they brought him to Jerusalem,
and he died,
and was buried in one of the
sepulchres of his fathers.
And all Judah
and Jerusalem
mourned for
Josiah.
So his servants took him out of his
chariot, put him in his second
chariot,
and brought him to Jerusalem, where he died.
And Josiah was buried in the tomb of his fathers,
and all Judah
and Jerusalem
mourned for him.
Then Jeremiah
lamented over
Josiah,
and to this day all the choirs of men
and women sing laments over
Josiah. They established them as a statute for Israel,
and indeed they are written in the Book of Laments.
Now the rest of the acts of
Josiah,
and his goodness, according to that which was written in the law of the LORD,
As for the rest of the acts of
Josiah, along with his deeds of loving devotion according to what is written in the Law of the LORD—
And his deeds, first and last, behold, they are written in the book of the kings of Israel and Judah.
his acts from beginning to end—they are indeed written in the Book of the Kings of Israel and Judah.
Then the people of the land took
Jehoahaz the son of
Josiah,
and made him king in his father’s
stead in Jerusalem.
Then the people of the land took
Jehoahaz son of
Josiah and made him king in Jerusalem in place of his father.
Jehoahaz was twenty
and three years old when he began to reign,
and he reigned three months in Jerusalem.
Jehoahaz was twenty-three years old when he became king,
and he reigned in Jerusalem three months.
And the king of Egypt put him down at Jerusalem, and condemned the land in an hundred talents of silver and a talent of gold.
And the king of Egypt
dethroned him in Jerusalem
and imposed on Judah a
levy of a hundred talents of silver
and a talent of gold.
And the king of Egypt made Eliakim his brother king over Judah
and Jerusalem,
and turned his name to
Jehoiakim.
And Necho took
Jehoahaz his brother,
and carried him to Egypt.
Then Neco king of Egypt made Eliakim brother of
Jehoahaz king over Judah
and Jerusalem,
and he changed Eliakim’s name to
Jehoiakim. But Neco took Eliakim’s brother
Jehoahaz and carried him off to Egypt.
Jehoiakim was twenty
and five years old when he began to reign,
and he reigned eleven years in Jerusalem:
and he did that which was evil in the sight of the LORD his God.
Jehoiakim was twenty-five years old when he became king,
and he reigned in Jerusalem eleven years.
And he did evil in the sight of the LORD his God.
Nebuchadnezzar also carried of the vessels of the house of the LORD to Babylon,
and put them in his temple at Babylon.
Nebuchadnezzar also took to Babylon some of the articles from the house of the LORD,
and he put them in his temple in Babylon.
Now the rest of the acts of
Jehoiakim,
and his abominations which he did,
and that which was found in him, behold, they are written in the book of the kings of Israel
and Judah:
and Jehoiachin his son reigned in his
stead.
As for the rest of the acts of
Jehoiakim, the abominations he committed,
and all that was found against him, they are indeed written in the Book of the Kings of Israel
and Judah.
And his son
Jehoiachin reigned in his place.
Jehoiachin was eight years old when he began to reign,
and he reigned three months
and ten days in Jerusalem:
and he did that which was evil in the sight of the LORD.
Jehoiachin was eighteen years old when he became king,
and he reigned in Jerusalem three months
and ten days.
And he did evil in the sight of the LORD.
And when the year was
expired, king
Nebuchadnezzar sent,
and brought him to Babylon, with the goodly vessels of the house of the LORD,
and made
Zedekiah his brother king over Judah
and Jerusalem.
In the spring, King
Nebuchadnezzar summoned
Jehoiachin and brought him to Babylon, along with the articles of value from the house of the LORD.
And he made
Jehoiachin’s relative
Zedekiah king over Judah
and Jerusalem.
Zedekiah was one
and twenty years old when he began to reign,
and reigned eleven years in Jerusalem.
Zedekiah was twenty-one years old when he became king,
and he reigned in Jerusalem eleven years.
And he did that which was evil in the sight of the LORD his God, and humbled not himself before Jeremiah the prophet speaking from the mouth of the LORD.
And he did evil in the sight of the LORD his God and did not humble himself before Jeremiah the prophet, who spoke for the LORD.
Moreover all the chief of the priests,
and the people,
transgressed very much after all the abominations of the heathen;
and polluted the house of the LORD which he had
hallowed in Jerusalem.
Furthermore, all the leaders of the priests
and the people multiplied their unfaithful deeds, following all the abominations of the nations,
and they
defiled the house of the LORD, which He had consecrated in Jerusalem.
And the LORD God of their fathers sent to them by his messengers, rising up
betimes,
and sending; because he had
compassion on his people,
and on his dwelling place:
Again
and again the LORD, the God of their fathers, sent word to His people through His messengers because He had
compassion on them
and on His dwelling place.
But they
mocked the messengers of God,
and despised his words,
and misused his prophets, until the wrath of the LORD arose against his people, till there was no remedy.
But they
mocked the messengers of God,
despising His words
and scoffing at His prophets, until the wrath of the LORD against His people was
stirred up beyond remedy.
Therefore he brought upon them the king of the Chaldees, who
slew their young men with the sword in the house of their sanctuary,
and had no
compassion upon young man or
maiden, old man, or him that
stooped for age: he gave them all into his hand.
So He brought up against them the king of the Chaldeans, who put their young men to the sword in the sanctuary,
sparing neither young men nor young women, neither elderly nor infirm. God gave them all into the hand of
Nebuchadnezzar,
And all the vessels of the house of God, great and small, and the treasures of the house of the LORD, and the treasures of the king, and of his princes; all these he brought to Babylon.
who carried off everything to Babylon—all the articles of the house of God, both large and small, and the treasures of the house of the LORD and of the king and his officials.
And they burnt the house of God,
and brake down the wall of Jerusalem,
and burnt all the palaces thereof with fire,
and destroyed all the goodly vessels thereof.
Then the Chaldeans set fire to the house of God and broke down the wall of Jerusalem. They burned down all the palaces and destroyed every article of value.
And them that had escaped from the sword carried he away to Babylon; where they were servants to him and his sons until the reign of the kingdom of Persia:
Those who escaped the sword were carried by
Nebuchadnezzar into exile in Babylon,
and they became servants to him
and his sons until the kingdom of Persia came to power.
To fulfil the word of the LORD by the mouth of Jeremiah, until the land had enjoyed her sabbaths: for as long as she lay
desolate she kept sabbath, to fulfil
threescore and ten years.
So the land enjoyed its Sabbath rest all the days of the
desolation, until seventy years were completed, in
fulfillment of the word of the LORD through Jeremiah.
Now in the first year of Cyrus king of Persia, that the word of the LORD spoken by the mouth of Jeremiah might be accomplished, the LORD
stirred up the spirit of Cyrus king of Persia, that he made a
proclamation throughout all his kingdom,
and put it also in writing, saying,
In the first year of Cyrus king of Persia, to
fulfill the word of the LORD spoken through Jeremiah, the LORD
stirred the spirit of Cyrus king of Persia to send a
proclamation throughout his kingdom
and to put it in writing as follows:
Thus saith Cyrus king of Persia, All the kingdoms of the earth hath the LORD God of heaven given me; and he hath charged me to build him an house in Jerusalem, which is in Judah. Who is there among you of all his people? The LORD his God be with him, and let him go up.
“This is what Cyrus king of Persia says: ‘The LORD, the God of heaven, who has given me all the kingdoms of the earth, has appointed me to build a house for Him at Jerusalem in Judah.
Whoever among you belongs to His people, may the LORD his God be with him,
and may he go up.’”
Now in the first year of Cyrus king of Persia, that the word of the LORD by the mouth of Jeremiah might be fulfilled, the LORD
stirred up the spirit of Cyrus king of Persia, that he made a
proclamation throughout all his kingdom,
and put it also in writing, saying,
In the first year of Cyrus king of Persia, to
fulfill the word of the LORD spoken through Jeremiah, the LORD
stirred the spirit of Cyrus king of Persia to send a
proclamation throughout his kingdom
and to put it in writing as follows:
Thus saith Cyrus king of Persia, The LORD God of heaven hath given me all the kingdoms of the earth; and he hath charged me to build him an house at Jerusalem, which is in Judah.
“This is what Cyrus king of Persia says: ‘The LORD, the God of heaven, who has given me all the kingdoms of the earth, has appointed me to build a house for Him at Jerusalem in Judah.
Who is there among you of all his people? his God be with him, and let him go up to Jerusalem, which is in Judah, and build the house of the LORD God of Israel, (he is the God,) which is in Jerusalem.
Whoever among you belongs to His people, may his God be with him,
and may he go to Jerusalem in Judah
and build the house of the LORD, the God of Israel; He is the God who is in Jerusalem.
And whosoever remaineth in any place where he sojourneth, let the men of his place help him with silver,
and with gold,
and with goods,
and with beasts, beside the
freewill offering for the house of God that is in Jerusalem.
And let every
survivor, wherever he lives, be assisted by the men of that region with silver, gold, goods,
and livestock, along with a
freewill offering for the house of God in Jerusalem.’”
Then rose up the chief of the fathers of Judah and Benjamin, and the priests, and the Levites, with all them whose spirit God had raised, to go up to build the house of the LORD which is in Jerusalem.
So the family heads of Judah
and Benjamin, along with the priests
and Levites—
everyone whose spirit God had
stirred—prepared to go up
and rebuild the house of the LORD in Jerusalem.
And all they that were about them strengthened their hands with vessels of silver, with gold, with goods, and with beasts, and with precious things, beside all that was willingly offered.
And all their neighbors supported them with articles of silver
and gold, with goods
and livestock,
and with valuables, in addition to all their
freewill offerings.
Also Cyrus the king brought forth the vessels of the house of the LORD, which
Nebuchadnezzar had brought forth out of Jerusalem,
and had put them in the house of his gods;
King Cyrus also brought out the articles belonging to the house of the LORD that
Nebuchadnezzar had carried away from Jerusalem
and placed in the temple of his gods.
Even those did Cyrus king of Persia bring forth by the hand of Mithredath the
treasurer,
and numbered them unto Sheshbazzar, the prince of Judah.
Cyrus king of Persia had them brought out by the hand of Mithredath the
treasurer, who counted them out to Sheshbazzar the prince of Judah.
And this is the number of them: thirty chargers of gold, a thousand chargers of silver, nine
and twenty
knives,
This was the
inventory: 30 gold dishes, 1,000 silver dishes, 29 silver utensils,
Thirty basons of gold, silver basons of a second sort four hundred and ten, and other vessels a thousand.
All the vessels of gold and of silver were five thousand and four hundred. All these did Sheshbazzar bring up with them of the captivity that were brought up from Babylon unto Jerusalem.
In all, there were 5,400 gold and silver articles. Sheshbazzar brought all these along when the exiles went up from Babylon to Jerusalem.
Now these are the children of the province that went up out of the captivity, of those which had been carried away, whom
Nebuchadnezzar the king of Babylon had carried away unto Babylon,
and came again unto Jerusalem
and Judah, every one unto his city;
Now these are the people of the province who came up from the captivity of the exiles carried away to Babylon by
Nebuchadnezzar its king. They returned to Jerusalem
and Judah, each to his own town,

And these were they which went up from Tel-melah, Tel-harsa,
