LORD, by thy favour thou hast made my mountain to stand strong: thou
didst hide thy face,
and I was troubled.
O LORD, You favored me; You made my mountain stand strong. When You
hid Your face, I was dismayed.
To You, O LORD, I called,
and I
begged my Lord for mercy:
Hear, O LORD, and have mercy upon me: LORD, be thou my helper.
Hear me, O LORD, and have mercy; O LORD, be my helper.”
To the end that my glory may sing praise to thee,
and not be silent. O LORD my God, I will give
thanks unto thee for ever.
that my heart may sing Your praises
and not be silent. O LORD my God, I will give
thanks forever.

I will be
glad and rejoice in thy mercy: for thou hast considered my trouble; thou hast known my soul in
adversities;

You have not delivered me to the enemy; You have set my feet in the open.
Have mercy upon me, O LORD, for I am in trouble: mine eye is consumed with grief,
yea, my soul
and my
belly.
Be
merciful to me, O LORD, for I am in distress; my eyes fail from sorrow, my soul
and body as well.
For my life is spent with grief,

sighing: my strength faileth because of mine iniquity,
and my bones are consumed.
For my life is consumed with grief
and my years with
groaning; my iniquity has drained my strength,
and my bones are wasting away.
I was a reproach among all mine enemies, but especially among my neighbours, and a fear to mine acquaintance: they that did see me without fled from me.
Among all my enemies I am a disgrace,
and among my neighbors even more. I am
dreaded by my friends— they
flee when they see me on the street.
For I have heard the
slander of many: fear was on every side: while they took counsel together against me, they devised to take away my life.

Let me not be
ashamed, O LORD; for I have called upon thee: let the wicked be
ashamed,
and let them be silent in the grave.

ashamed, for I have called on You. Let the wicked be put to shame; let them lie silent in
Sheol.

grievous things proudly
and contemptuously against the righteous.

deceit.

and night thy hand was heavy upon me: my moisture is turned into the
drought of summer.

For day
and night Your hand was heavy upon me; my strength was drained as in the summer heat.
Selah I acknowledged my sin unto thee,
and mine iniquity have I not
hid. I said, I will
confess my transgressions unto the LORD;
and thou forgavest the iniquity of my sin.
Selah.
Then I acknowledged my sin to You
and did not hide my iniquity. I said, “I will
confess my transgressions to the LORD,”
and You
forgave the guilt of my sin.
Selah I will
instruct thee
and teach thee in the way which thou shalt go: I will guide thee with mine eye.

instruct you
and teach you the way you should go; I will give you counsel
and watch over you.

mule, which have no understanding: whose mouth must be held in with
bit and bridle, lest they come near unto thee.

mule, which have no understanding; they must be
controlled with
bit and bridle to make them come to you.

harp: sing unto him with the

and put to shame that seek after my soul: let them be turned back

and confounded.
Let them be as
chaff before the wind:

hid catch himself: into that very destruction let him fall.

befall them by surprise; may the net they
hid ensnare them; may they fall into the

sackcloth: I humbled my soul with fasting;
and my prayer returned into mine own
bosom.

sackcloth; I humbled myself with fasting, but my prayers returned unanswered.
But in mine
adversity they
rejoiced,
and gathered themselves together:
yea, the abjects gathered themselves together against me,
and I knew it not; they did
tear me,
and ceased not:
But when I
stumbled, they assembled in
glee; they gathered together against me. Assailants I did not know
slandered me without ceasing.
Yea, they opened their mouth wide against me,
and said,
Aha,
aha, our eye hath seen it.
They
gape at me
and say, “
Aha,
aha! Our eyes have seen!”

thyself,

defense, to my cause, my God
and my Lord!

and let them not
rejoice over me.

and do not let them
gloat over me.

gloat in my distress be
ashamed and confounded; may those who
exalt themselves over me be clothed in shame

noonday sun.
Rest in the LORD,
and wait patiently for him:
fret not
thyself because of him who prospereth in his way, because of the man who bringeth wicked devices to pass.

and wait patiently for Him; do not
fret when men
prosper in their ways, when they carry out wicked schemes.
For yet a little while,
and the wicked shall not be:
yea, thou shalt
diligently consider his place,
and it shall not be.
Yet a little while, and the wicked will be no more; though you look for them, they will not be found.
But the
meek shall
inherit the earth;
and shall delight themselves in the abundance of peace.

meek will
inherit the land
and delight in abundant prosperity.

The wicked scheme against the righteous
and gnash their teeth at them,
The wicked have drawn out the sword,
and have bent their bow, to cast down the poor
and needy,
and to
slay such as be of upright conversation.
The wicked have drawn the sword
and bent the bow to bring down the poor
and needy, to
slay those whose ways are upright.
Their sword shall enter into their own heart, and their bows shall be broken.
But their swords will
pierce their own hearts,
and their bows will be broken.
The LORD knoweth the days of the upright: and their inheritance shall be for ever.

ashamed in the evil time:

fade away.

inherit the earth;

I have been young,
and now am old; yet have I not seen the righteous
forsaken, nor his seed
begging bread.

inherit the land: when the wicked are cut off, thou shalt see it.
Wait for the LORD
and keep His way,
and He will raise you up to
inherit the land. When the wicked are cut off, you will see it.
I have seen the wicked in great power, and spreading himself like a green bay tree.
I have seen a wicked,

yet he passed away and was no more; though I searched, he could not be found.
