And they carried the ark of God in a new
cart out of the house of Abinadab:
and Uzza
and Ahio
drave the
cart.
So they carried the ark of God from the house of Abinadab on a new
cart, with Uzzah
and Ahio guiding the
cart.
And David
and all Israel played before God with all their might,
and with singing,
and with harps,
and with
psalteries,
and with
timbrels,
and with cymbals,
and with
trumpets.
David
and all the Israelites were
celebrating before God with all their might, with songs
and on harps
and lyres, with tambourines, cymbals,
and trumpets.
And when they came unto the threshingfloor of Chidon, Uzza put forth his hand to hold the ark; for the oxen
stumbled.
When they came to the
threshing floor of Chidon, Uzzah reached out
and took hold of the ark, because the oxen had
stumbled.
And the anger of the LORD was
kindled against Uzza,
and he
smote him, because he put his hand to the ark:
and there he died before God.
And the anger of the LORD burned against Uzzah, and He struck him down because he had put his hand on the ark. So he died there before God.
And David was displeased, because the LORD had made a breach upon Uzza: wherefore that place is called
Perez-uzza to this day.
Then David became
angry because the LORD had
burst forth against Uzzah; so he named that place
Perez-uzzah, as it is called to this day.
And David was afraid of God that day, saying, How shall I bring the ark of God home to me?
That day David feared God and asked, “How can I ever bring the ark of God to me?”
And the ark of God remained with the family of Obed-
edom in his house three months.
And the LORD blessed the house of Obed-
edom,
and all that he had.
Thus the ark of God remained with the family of Obed-
edom in his house for three months,
and the LORD blessed his household
and everything he owned.
Now
Hiram king of Tyre sent messengers to David,
and timber of cedars, with masons
and carpenters, to build him an house.
Now
Hiram king of Tyre sent envoys to David, along with
cedar logs, stonemasons,
and carpenters, to build a palace for him.
And David perceived that the LORD had confirmed him king over Israel, for his kingdom was lifted up on high, because of his people Israel.
And David realized that the LORD had established him as king over Israel
and had highly
exalted his kingdom for the sake of His people Israel.
And David took more wives at Jerusalem:
and David
begat more sons
and daughters.
And David took more wives in Jerusalem and became the father of more sons and daughters.
Now these are the names of his children which he had in Jerusalem; Shammua,
and Shobab,
Nathan,
and Solomon,
These are the names of the children born to him in Jerusalem: Shammua, Shobab,
Nathan, Solomon,
And Ibhar, and Elishua, and Elpalet,
Ibhar, Elishua, Elpelet,
And Nogah, and Nepheg, and Japhia,
Nogah, Nepheg, Japhia,
And Elishama, and Beeliada, and Eliphalet.
Elishama, Beeliada, and Eliphelet.
And when the Philistines heard that David was
anointed king over all Israel, all the Philistines went up to seek David.
And David heard of it,
and went out against them.
When the Philistines heard that David had been
anointed king over all Israel, they all went in search of him; but David learned of this
and went out to face them.
And the Philistines came
and spread themselves in the valley of
Rephaim.
And David enquired of God, saying, Shall I go up against the Philistines?
and wilt thou deliver them into mine hand?
And the LORD said unto him, Go up; for I will deliver them into thine hand.
So David inquired of God, “Should I go up against the Philistines? Will You deliver them into my hand?” “Go,” replied the LORD, “for I will deliver them into your hand.”
So they came up to
Baal-perazim;
and David
smote them there. Then David said, God hath broken in upon mine enemies by mine hand like the breaking forth of waters: therefore they called the name of that place
Baal-perazim.
So David
and his men went up to
Baal-perazim, where he defeated the Philistines
and said, “Like a
bursting flood, God has
burst out against my enemies by my hand.” So they called that place
Baal-perazim.
And when they had left their gods there, David gave a commandment, and they were burned with fire.
There the Philistines abandoned their gods, and David ordered that they be burned in the fire.
And the Philistines yet again spread themselves abroad in the valley.
Once again the Philistines
raided the valley.
Therefore David enquired again of God;
and God said unto him, Go not up after them; turn away from them,
and come upon them over against the
mulberry trees.
So David again inquired of God, who answered him, “Do not march up after them, but circle around them
and attack them in front of the
balsam trees.
And it shall be, when thou shalt hear a sound of going in the tops of the
mulberry trees, that then thou shalt go out to battle: for God is gone forth before thee to
smite the host of the Philistines.
As soon as you hear the sound of marching in the tops of the
balsam trees, move out to battle, because this will mean that God has marched out before you to strike the camp of the Philistines.”
David therefore did as God commanded him:
and they
smote the host of the Philistines from
Gibeon even to
Gazer.
So David did as God had commanded him,
and they struck down the army of the Philistines all the way from
Gibeon to
Gezer.
And the fame of David went out into all lands; and the LORD brought the fear of him upon all nations.
And David’s fame went out into every land, and the LORD caused all nations to fear him.
And David made him houses in the city of David, and prepared a place for the ark of God, and pitched for it a tent.
David constructed buildings for himself in the City of David, and he prepared a place for the ark of God and pitched a tent for it.
Then David said, None ought to carry the ark of God but the Levites: for them hath the LORD chosen to carry the ark of God, and to minister unto him for ever.
Then David said, “No one but the Levites may carry the ark of God, because the LORD has chosen them to carry the ark of the LORD
and to minister before Him
forever.”
And David gathered all Israel together to Jerusalem, to bring up the ark of the LORD unto his place, which he had prepared for it.
And David assembled all Israel in Jerusalem to bring up the ark of the LORD to the place he had prepared for it.
And David assembled the children of Aaron, and the Levites:
Then he gathered together the descendants of Aaron and the Levites:
Of the sons of
Kohath; Uriel the chief,
and his brethren an hundred
and twenty:
From the Kohathites, Uriel the chief and 120 of his relatives;
Of the sons of Merari; Asaiah the chief, and his brethren two hundred and twenty:
from the Merarites, Asaiah the chief and 220 of his relatives;
Of the sons of Gershom;
Joel the chief,
and his brethren an hundred
and thirty:
from the Gershomites,
Joel the chief
and 130 of his relatives;
Of the sons of Elizaphan; Shemaiah the chief, and his brethren two hundred:
from the Elizaphanites, Shemaiah the chief and 200 of his relatives;
from the Hebronites, Eliel the chief and 80 of his relatives;
Of the sons of Uzziel;
Amminadab the chief,
and his brethren an hundred
and twelve.
and from the Uzzielites,
Amminadab the chief
and 112 of his relatives.
And David called for
Zadok and Abiathar the priests,
and for the Levites, for Uriel, Asaiah,
and Joel, Shemaiah,
and Eliel,
and Amminadab,
And said unto them, Ye are the chief of the fathers of the Levites:
sanctify yourselves, both ye
and your brethren, that ye may bring up the ark of the LORD God of Israel unto the place that I have prepared for it.
And he said to them, “You are the heads of the
Levitical families. You
and your relatives must
consecrate yourselves so that you may bring the ark of the LORD, the God of Israel, to the place I have prepared for it.
So the priests
and the Levites
sanctified themselves to bring up the ark of the LORD God of Israel.
So the priests and Levites consecrated themselves to bring up the ark of the LORD, the God of Israel.
And the children of the Levites bare the ark of God upon their shoulders with the
staves thereon, as Moses commanded according to the word of the LORD.
And the Levites carried the ark of God on their shoulders with the poles, as Moses had commanded in accordance with the word of the LORD.
And David spake to the chief of the Levites to
appoint their brethren to be the singers with instruments of musick,
psalteries and harps
and cymbals, sounding, by lifting up the voice with joy.
David also told the leaders of the Levites to
appoint their relatives as singers to lift up their voices with joy, accompanied by musical instruments—harps, lyres,
and cymbals.
So the Levites appointed Heman the son of
Joel;
and of his brethren,
Asaph the son of Berechiah;
and of the sons of Merari their brethren,
Ethan the son of Kushaiah;
So the Levites appointed Heman son of
Joel; from his brothers,
Asaph son of Berechiah; from their brothers the Merarites,
Ethan son of Kushaiah;
And with them their brethren of the second degree,
Zechariah, Ben,
and Jaaziel,
and Shemiramoth,
and Jehiel,
and Unni, Eliab,
and Benaiah,
and Maaseiah,
and Mattithiah,
and Elipheleh,
and Mikneiah,
and Obed-
edom,
and Jeiel, the
porters.
and with them their brothers next in rank:
Zechariah, Jaaziel, Shemiramoth, Jehiel, Unni, Eliab, Benaiah, Maaseiah, Mattithiah, Eliphelehu, Mikneiah,
and the gatekeepers Obed-
edom and Jeiel.
So the singers, Heman,
Asaph,
and Ethan, were appointed to sound with cymbals of brass;
The musicians Heman,
Asaph,
and Ethan were to sound the bronze cymbals.
And Zechariah,
and Aziel,
and Shemiramoth,
and Jehiel,
and Unni,
and Eliab,
and Maaseiah,
and Benaiah, with
psalteries on Alamoth;
Zechariah, Aziel, Shemiramoth, Jehiel, Unni, Eliab, Maaseiah,
and Benaiah were to play the harps according to Alamoth.
And Mattithiah,
and Elipheleh,
and Mikneiah,
and Obed-
edom,
and Jeiel,
and Azaziah, with harps on the Sheminith to
excel.
And Mattithiah, Eliphelehu, Mikneiah, Obed-
edom, Jeiel,
and Azaziah were to lead the music with lyres according to Sheminith.
And Chenaniah, chief of the Levites, was for song: he
instructed about the song, because he was skilful.
Chenaniah the head
Levite was the director of the music because he was highly skilled.
And Berechiah and Elkanah were doorkeepers for the ark.
Berechiah and Elkanah were to be guardians of the ark.
And Shebaniah,
and Jehoshaphat,
and Nethaneel,
and Amasai,
and Zechariah,
and Benaiah,
and Eliezer, the priests, did blow with the
trumpets before the ark of God:
and Obed-
edom and Jehiah were doorkeepers for the ark.
Shebaniah, Joshaphat, Nethanel, Amasai,
Zechariah, Benaiah,
and Eliezer—the priests—were to blow the
trumpets before the ark of God. Obed-
edom and Jehiah were also to be guardians of the ark.
So David,
and the elders of Israel,
and the captains over thousands, went to bring up the ark of the covenant of the LORD out of the house of Obed-
edom with joy.
So David, the elders of Israel,
and the commanders of thousands went with
rejoicing to bring the ark of the covenant of the LORD from the house of Obed-
edom.
And it came to pass, when God helped the Levites that bare the ark of the covenant of the LORD, that they offered seven bullocks and seven rams.
And because God helped the Levites who were carrying the ark of the covenant of the LORD, they sacrificed seven bulls and seven rams.
And David was clothed with a
robe of fine linen,
and all the Levites that bare the ark,
and the singers,
and Chenaniah the master of the song with the singers: David also had upon him an
ephod of linen.
Now David was dressed in a
robe of fine linen, as were all the Levites who were carrying the ark, as well as the singers
and Chenaniah, the director of music for the singers. David also
wore a linen
ephod.
Thus all Israel brought up the ark of the covenant of the LORD with
shouting,
and with sound of the
cornet,
and with
trumpets,
and with cymbals, making a noise with
psalteries and harps.
So all Israel brought up the ark of the covenant of the LORD with
shouting, with the sounding of rams’ horns
and trumpets,
and with cymbals
and the music of harps
and lyres.
And it came to pass, as the ark of the covenant of the LORD came to the city of David, that Michal the daughter of Saul looking out at a window saw king David dancing
and playing:
and she
despised him in her heart.
As the ark of the covenant of the LORD was entering the City of David, Saul’s daughter Michal looked down from a window
and saw King David dancing
and celebrating,
and she
despised him in her heart.
So they brought the ark of God, and set it in the midst of the tent that David had pitched for it: and they offered burnt sacrifices and peace offerings before God.
So they brought the ark of God and placed it inside the tent that David had pitched for it. And they presented burnt offerings and peace offerings before God.
And when David had made an end of offering the burnt offerings and the peace offerings, he blessed the people in the name of the LORD.
When David had finished sacrificing the burnt offerings and peace offerings, he blessed the people in the name of the LORD.
And he dealt to every one of Israel, both man
and woman, to every one a
loaf of bread,
and a good piece of flesh,
and a
flagon of wine.
Then he distributed to every man
and woman of Israel a
loaf of bread, a date
cake,
and a
raisin cake.
And he appointed certain of the Levites to minister before the ark of the LORD,
and to record,
and to
thank and praise the LORD God of Israel:
David appointed some of the Levites to minister before the ark of the LORD, to
celebrate, to give
thanks,
and to praise the LORD, the God of Israel.
Asaph the chief,
and next to him
Zechariah, Jeiel,
and Shemiramoth,
and Jehiel,
and Mattithiah,
and Eliab,
and Benaiah,
and Obed-
edom:
and Jeiel with
psalteries and with harps; but
Asaph made a sound with cymbals;
Asaph was the chief,
Zechariah was second, then Jeiel, Shemiramoth, Jehiel, Mattithiah, Eliab, Benaiah, Obed-
edom,
and Jeiel. They were to play the harps
and lyres, while
Asaph sounded the cymbals
Benaiah also
and Jahaziel the priests with
trumpets continually before the ark of the covenant of God.
and the priests Benaiah
and Jahaziel
blew the
trumpets regularly before the ark of the covenant of God.
Then on that day David delivered first this
psalm to
thank the LORD into the hand of
Asaph and his brethren.
On that day David first committed to
Asaph and his brothers this song of
thanksgiving to the LORD:
Seek the LORD and his strength, seek his face continually.
Seek out the LORD and His strength; seek His face always.
Remember his marvellous works that he hath done, his wonders, and the judgments of his mouth;
Remember the wonders He has done, His marvels, and the judgments He has pronounced,
Even of the covenant which he made with Abraham, and of his oath unto Isaac;
the covenant He made with Abraham,
and the oath He
swore to Isaac.
And hath confirmed the same to Jacob for a law,
and to Israel for an
everlasting covenant,
He confirmed it to Jacob as a decree, to Israel as an
everlasting covenant:
When ye were but few, even a few, and strangers in it.
When they were few in number, few indeed, and strangers in the land,
And when they went from nation to nation, and from one kingdom to another people;
they
wandered from nation to nation, from one kingdom to another.
Saying, Touch not mine
anointed,
and do my prophets no
harm.
For great is the LORD, and greatly to be praised: he also is to be feared above all gods.
For great is the LORD, and greatly to be praised; He is to be feared above all gods.
Glory
and honour are in his presence; strength
and gladness are in his place.
Splendor and majesty are before Him; strength
and joy fill His dwelling.
Give unto the LORD, ye kindreds of the people, give unto the LORD glory and strength.
Ascribe to the LORD, O families of the nations,
ascribe to the LORD glory
and strength.
Give unto the LORD the glory due unto his name: bring an offering,
and come before him: worship the LORD in the beauty of
holiness.
Ascribe to the LORD the glory due His name; bring an offering
and come before Him. Worship the LORD in the
splendor of His
holiness;
Let the heavens be
glad,
and let the earth
rejoice:
and let men say among the nations, The LORD reigneth.
Let the heavens be
glad,
and the earth
rejoice. Let them say among the nations, ‘The LORD reigns!’
Let the sea
roar,
and the
fulness thereof: let the fields
rejoice,
and all that is therein.
Let the sea resound,
and all that fills it; let the fields
exult,
and all that is in them.
And say ye, Save us, O God of our salvation,
and gather us together,
and deliver us from the heathen, that we may give
thanks to thy holy name,
and glory in thy praise.
Then cry out: ‘Save us, O God of our salvation; gather
and deliver us from the nations, that we may give
thanks to Your holy name, that we may glory in Your praise.’
Blessed be the LORD God of Israel for ever
and ever.
And all the people said,
Amen,
and praised the LORD.
Blessed be the LORD, the God of Israel, from
everlasting to
everlasting.” Then all the people said, “
Amen!”
and “Praise the LORD!”
So he left there before the ark of the covenant of the LORD
Asaph and his brethren, to minister before the ark continually, as every day’s work required:
So David left
Asaph and his brothers there before the ark of the covenant of the LORD, to minister there regularly according to the daily requirements,
along with Obed-
edom and his sixty-eight relatives. Obed-
edom son of
Jeduthun,
and also Hosah, were to be gatekeepers.
And Zadok the priest,
and his brethren the priests, before the tabernacle of the LORD in the high place that was at
Gibeon,
And David left
Zadok the priest
and his fellow priests before the tabernacle of the LORD at the high place in
Gibeon To offer burnt offerings unto the LORD upon the altar of the burnt offering continually morning and evening, and to do according to all that is written in the law of the LORD, which he commanded Israel;
to regularly present burnt offerings to the LORD on the altar of burnt offerings, morning and evening, according to all that was written in the Law of the LORD, which He had commanded Israel to keep.
And with them Heman
and Jeduthun,
and the rest that were chosen, who were expressed by name, to give
thanks to the LORD, because his mercy endureth for ever;
With them were Heman,
Jeduthun,
and the rest of those chosen
and designated by name to give
thanks to the LORD, for “His loving devotion endures
forever.”
And with them Heman
and Jeduthun with
trumpets and cymbals for those that should make a sound,
and with musical instruments of God.
And the sons of
Jeduthun were
porters.
Heman
and Jeduthun had with them
trumpets and cymbals for the music
and instruments for the songs of God.
And the sons of
Jeduthun were stationed at the gate.
And all the people departed every man to his house:
and David returned to
bless his house.
Then all the people departed for their homes,
and David returned home to
bless his household.
Then
Nathan said unto David, Do all that is in thine heart; for God is with thee.
And Nathan replied to David, “Do all that is in your heart, for God is with you.”
And it came to pass the same night, that the word of God came to
Nathan, saying,
But that night the word of God came to
Nathan, saying,
Go and tell David my servant, Thus saith the LORD, Thou shalt not build me an house to dwell in:
“Go and tell My servant David that this is what the LORD says: You are not the one to build Me a house in which to dwell.
For I have not dwelt in an house since the day that I brought up Israel unto this day; but have gone from tent to tent, and from one tabernacle to another.
For I have not dwelt in a house from the day I brought Israel up out of Egypt until this day, but I have moved from tent to tent and dwelling to dwelling.
And I have been with thee
whithersoever thou hast walked,
and have cut off all thine enemies from before thee,
and have made thee a name like the name of the great men that are in the earth.
I have been with you wherever you have gone, and I have cut off all your enemies from before you. Now I will make for you a name like the greatest in the land.
Also I will
ordain a place for my people Israel,
and will plant them,
and they shall dwell in their place,
and shall be moved no more; neither shall the children of wickedness waste them any more, as at the beginning,
And I will provide a place for My people Israel
and will plant them so that they may dwell in a place of their own
and be disturbed no more. No longer will the sons of wickedness
oppress them as they did at the beginning
And since the time that I commanded judges to be over my people Israel. Moreover I will
subdue all thine enemies.
Furthermore I tell thee that the LORD will build thee an house.
and have done since the day I appointed judges over My people Israel.
And I will
subdue all your enemies. Moreover, I declare to you that the LORD will build a house for you.
And it shall come to pass, when thy days be
expired that thou must go to be with thy fathers, that I will raise up thy seed after thee, which shall be of thy sons;
and I will establish his kingdom.
And when your days are fulfilled
and you go to be with your fathers, I will raise up your
descendant after you, one of your own sons,
and I will establish his kingdom.
He shall build me an house,
and I will
stablish his throne for ever.
He will build a house for Me,
and I will establish his throne
forever.
I will be his father, and he shall be my son: and I will not take my mercy away from him, as I took it from him that was before thee:
I will be his Father, and he will be My son. And I will never remove My loving devotion from him as I removed it from your predecessor.
But I will settle him in mine house
and in my kingdom for ever:
and his throne shall be established for
evermore.
But I will set him over My house
and My kingdom
forever,
and his throne will be established
forever.”
According to all these words,
and according to all this vision, so did
Nathan speak unto David.
So
Nathan relayed to David all the words of this entire vision.
And David the king came and sat before the LORD, and said, Who am I, O LORD God, and what is mine house, that thou hast brought me hitherto?
Then King David went in, sat before the LORD, and said, “Who am I, O LORD God, and what is my house, that You have brought me this far?
And yet this was a small thing in thine eyes, O God; for thou hast also spoken of thy servant’s house for a great while to come, and hast regarded me according to the estate of a man of high degree, O LORD God.
And as if this was a small thing in Your eyes, O God, You have spoken about the future of the house of Your servant and have regarded me as a man of great distinction, O LORD God.
O LORD, for thy servant’s sake, and according to thine own heart, hast thou done all this greatness, in making known all these great things.
O LORD. For the sake of Your servant and according to Your own heart, You have accomplished this great thing and revealed all Your greatness.
O LORD, there is none like thee, neither is there any God beside thee, according to all that we have heard with our ears.
O LORD, there is none like You, and there is no God but You, according to everything we have heard with our own ears.
And what one nation in the earth is like thy people Israel, whom God went to
redeem to be his own people, to make thee a name of greatness
and terribleness, by driving out nations from before thy people, whom thou hast redeemed out of Egypt?
And who is like Your people Israel—the one nation on earth whom God went out to
redeem as a people for Himself? You made a name for
Yourself through great
and awesome wonders by driving out nations from before Your people, whom You redeemed from Egypt.
For thy people Israel
didst thou make thine own people for ever;
and thou, LORD, becamest their God.
For You have made Your people Israel Your very own
forever,
and You, O LORD, have become their God.
Therefore now, LORD, let the thing that thou hast spoken concerning thy servant and concerning his house be established for ever, and do as thou hast said.
And now, O LORD, let the word You have spoken concerning Your servant
and his house be established
forever. Do as You have promised,
