contend with Israel or fight against them?

reap, and go thou after them: have I not charged the young men that they shall not touch thee? and when thou
art athirst, go unto the vessels, and drink of that which the young men have drawn.

thirsty, go and drink from the jars the young men have filled.”

heretofore.
Boaz replied, “I have been made fully aware of all you have done for your mother-in-law since the death of your husband, how you left your father and mother and the land of your birth, and how you came to a people you did not know before.
The LORD
recompense thy work, and a full reward be given thee of the LORD God of Israel, under whose wings thou
art come to trust.

art departed from me to day, then thou shalt find two men by

asses which thou wentest to seek are found: and, lo, thy father hath left the care of the
asses, and sorroweth for you, saying, What shall I do for my son?
When you leave me
today, you will find two men at
Rachel’s tomb in Zelzah on the border of Benjamin. They will say to you, ‘The
donkeys you seek have been found, and now your father has stopped
worrying about the
donkeys and started
worrying about you, asking, “What should I do about my son?”’
After that thou shalt come to the hill of God, where is the garrison of the Philistines: and it shall come to pass, when thou
art come thither to the city, that thou shalt meet a company of prophets coming down from the high place with a
psaltery, and a
tabret, and a pipe, and a
harp, before them; and they shall
prophesy:

prophesying.
And Eliab his eldest brother heard when he spake unto the men; and Eliab’s anger was
kindled against David, and he said, Why camest thou down
hither? and with whom hast thou left those few sheep in the wilderness? I know thy pride, and the
naughtiness of thine heart; for thou
art come down that thou mightest see the battle.
Now when David’s oldest brother Eliab heard him speaking to the men, his anger burned against David. “Why have you come down here?” he asked. “And with whom did you leave those few sheep in the wilderness? I know your pride and wickedness of heart—you have come down to see the battle!”

art not able to go against this
Philistine to fight with him: for thou

warrior from his youth.”
And Saul said to him, Whose son

Bethlehem,” David replied.

cried to the people, and to

Abner answered and said, Who
art thou that criest to the king?
And David
shouted to the troops and to
Abner son of
Ner, “Will you not answer me,
Abner?” “Who calls to the king?”
Abner replied.
And David said to
Abner,
Art not thou a
valiant man? and who is like to thee in Israel? wherefore then hast thou not kept thy lord the king? for there came one of the people in to destroy the king thy lord.
So David said to
Abner, “You are a man, aren’t you? And who in Israel is your equal? Why then did you not protect your lord the king when one of the people came to destroy him?

And David said unto him, To whom belongest thou? and whence
art thou? And he said, I am a young man of Egypt, servant to an Amalekite; and my master left me, because three days
agone I fell sick.
Then David asked him, “To whom do you belong, and where are you from?” “I am an Egyptian,” he replied, “the slave of an Amalekite. My master abandoned me three days ago when I fell ill.
And he said unto me, Who art thou? And I answered him, I am an Amalekite.
‘Who are you?’ he asked. So I told him, ‘I am an Amalekite.’
And David said unto the young man that told him, Whence art thou? And he answered, I am the son of a stranger, an Amalekite.
And David inquired of the young man who had brought him the report, “Where are you from?” “I am the son of a foreigner,” he answered. “I am an Amalekite.”
Then
Abner looked behind him, and said,
Art thou
Asahel? And he answered, I am.
Wherefore thou art great, O LORD God: for there is none like thee, neither is there any God beside thee, according to all that we have heard with our ears.
How great You are, O Lord GOD! For there is none like You, and there is no God but You, according to everything we have heard with our own ears.
For thou hast confirmed to
thyself thy people Israel to be a people unto thee for ever: and thou, LORD,
art become their God.
For You have established Your people Israel as Your very own
forever, and You, O LORD, have become their God.
And now, O Lord GOD, thou art that God, and thy words be true, and thou hast promised this goodness unto thy servant:
And now, O Lord GOD, You are God! Your words are true, and You have promised this goodness to Your servant.
Then Toi sent
Joram his son unto king David, to
salute him, and to
bless him, because he had fought against Hadadezer, and
smitten him: for Hadadezer had wars with Toi. And

he sent his son
Joram to
greet King David and
bless him for fighting and defeating Hadadezer, who had been at war with Toi.
Joram brought with him
articles of silver and gold and bronze,

And
Nathan said to David, Thou
art the man. Thus saith the LORD God of Israel, I
anointed thee king over Israel, and I delivered thee out of the hand of Saul;

anointed you king over Israel, and I delivered you from the hand of Saul.
And he said unto him, Why
art thou, being the king’s son,
lean from day to day?
wilt thou not tell me? And Amnon said unto him, I love Tamar, my brother
Absalom’s sister.
so he asked Amnon, “Why are you, the son of the king, so depressed morning after morning? Won’t you tell me?” Amnon replied, “I am in love with Tamar, my brother
Absalom’s sister.”
And
Absalom rose up early, and stood beside the way of the gate: and it was so, that when any man that had a controversy came to the king for judgment, then
Absalom called unto him, and said, Of what city
art thou? And he said, Thy servant is of one of the tribes of Israel.
He would get up early and stand beside the road leading to the city gate. Whenever
anyone had a
grievance to bring before the king for a decision,
Absalom would call out and ask, “What city are you from?” And if he replied, “Your servant is from one of the tribes of Israel,”

abide with the king: for thou
art a stranger, and also an exile.

The king said also unto
Zadok the priest,
Art not thou a
seer? return into the city in peace, and your two sons with you,
Ahimaaz thy son, and
Jonathan the son of
Abiathar.
The LORD hath returned upon thee all the blood of the house of Saul, in whose
stead thou hast reigned; and the LORD hath delivered the kingdom into the hand of
Absalom thy son: and, behold, thou
art taken in thy mischief, because thou
art a
bloody man.
The LORD has paid you back for all the blood of the house of Saul, in whose place you have reigned, and the LORD has delivered the kingdom into the hand of your son
Absalom. See, you have come to ruin because you are a man of
bloodshed!”
And
Ahithophel said unto
Absalom, Go in unto thy father’s concubines, which he hath left to keep the house; and all Israel shall hear that thou
art abhorred of thy father: then shall the hands of all that are with thee be strong.
Ahithophel replied, “Sleep with your father’s concubines, whom he has left to keep the palace. When all Israel hears that you have become a
stench to your father, then the hands of all who are with you will be strengthened.”
But the people answered, Thou shalt not go forth: for if we
flee away, they will not care for us; neither if half of us die, will they care for us: but now thou
art worth ten thousand of us: therefore now it is better that thou succour us out of the city.
But the people
pleaded, “You must not go out! For if we have to
flee, they will pay no attention to us. Even if half of us die, they will not care; but you are worth ten thousand of us. It is better for now if you support us from the city.”
And say ye to
Amasa,
Art thou not of my bone, and of my flesh? God do so to me, and more also, if thou be not captain of the host before me continually in the room of
Joab.
And say to
Amasa, ‘Aren’t you my flesh and blood? May God
punish me, and ever so severely, if from this time you are not the commander of my army in place of
Joab!’”
And when he was come near unto her, the woman said,
Art thou
Joab? And he answered, I am he. Then she said unto him, Hear the words of thine
handmaid. And he answered, I do hear.
When he had come near to her, the woman asked, “Are you
Joab?” “I am,” he replied. “
Listen to the words of your servant,” she said. “I am
listening,” he answered.
For thou
art my lamp, O LORD: and the LORD will
lighten my darkness.
For You, O LORD, are my lamp; the LORD lights up my darkness.
And while he yet spake, behold,
Jonathan the son of
Abiathar the priest came: and Adonijah said unto him, Come in; for thou
art a
valiant man, and bringest good
tidings.
As he was speaking, suddenly
Jonathan the son of
Abiathar the priest arrived. “Come in,” said Adonijah, “for you are a man of
valor. You must be bringing good news.”
Now therefore hold him not guiltless: for thou
art a wise man, and knowest what thou oughtest to do unto him; but his
hoar head bring thou down to the grave with blood.
Now therefore, do not hold him guiltless, for you are a wise man. You know what you ought to do to him to bring his gray head down to
Sheol in blood.”
And unto
Abiathar the priest said the king, Get thee to Anathoth, unto thine own fields; for thou
art worthy of death: but I will not at this time put thee to death, because thou barest the ark of the Lord GOD before David my father, and because thou hast been
afflicted in all wherein my father was
afflicted.
Then the king said to
Abiathar the priest, “Go back to your fields in Anathoth. Even though you deserve to die, I will not put you to death at this time, since you carried the ark of the Lord GOD before my father David, and you suffered through all that my father suffered.”
Concerning this house which thou
art in building, if thou
wilt walk in my statutes, and
execute my judgments, and keep all my commandments to walk in them; then will I perform my word with thee, which I spake unto David thy father:
“As for this temple you are building, if you walk in My statutes, carry out My ordinances, and keep all My commandments by walking in them, I will
fulfill through you the promise I made to your father David.
And the pots, and the shovels, and the basons: and all these vessels, which
Hiram made to king Solomon for the house of the LORD, were of bright brass.
and the pots, shovels, and
sprinkling bowls. All the
articles that Huram made for King Solomon in the house of the LORD were made of
burnished bronze.
And Solomon left all the vessels
unweighed, because they were exceeding many: neither was the weight of the brass found out.
Solomon left all these
articles unweighed, because there were so many. The weight of the bronze could not be determined.
And they brought every man his present, vessels of silver, and vessels of gold, and garments, and armour, and spices, horses, and mules, a rate year by year.
Year after year, each
visitor would bring his tribute:
articles of silver and gold, clothing, weapons, spices, horses, and mules.
And went after the man of God, and found him sitting under an oak: and he said unto him, Art thou the man of God that camest from Judah? And he said, I am.
and went after the man of God. He found him sitting under an oak tree and asked, “Are you the man of God who came from Judah?” “I am,” he replied.
He said unto him, I am a prophet also as thou
art; and an angel spake unto me by the word of the LORD, saying, Bring him back with thee into thine house, that he may eat bread and drink water. But he
lied unto him.
Then the prophet replied, “I too am a prophet like you, and an angel spoke to me by the word of the LORD, saying, ‘Bring him back with you to your house, so that he may eat bread and drink water.’” The old prophet was lying to him,
And he brought in the things which his father had dedicated, and the things which himself had dedicated, into the house of the LORD, silver, and gold, and vessels.
And he brought into the house of the LORD the silver and gold and other articles that he and his father had dedicated.
And she said unto
Elijah, What have I to do with thee, O thou man of God?
art thou come unto me to call my sin to
remembrance, and to
slay my son?
“O man of God,” said the woman to
Elijah, “what have you done to me? Have you come to remind me of my iniquity and cause the death of my son?”
And the woman said to
Elijah, Now by this I know that thou
art a man of God, and that the word of the LORD in thy mouth is truth.
Then the woman said to
Elijah, “Now I know that you are a man of God and that the word of the LORD from your mouth is truth.”
And as
Obadiah was in the way, behold,
Elijah met him: and he knew him, and fell on his face, and said,
Art thou that my lord
Elijah?
Now as
Obadiah went on his way,
Elijah suddenly met him. When
Obadiah recognized him, he fell facedown and said, “Is it you, my lord
Elijah?”
And it came to pass, when
Ahab saw
Elijah, that
Ahab said unto him,
Art thou he that troubleth Israel?
When
Ahab saw
Elijah, he said to him, “Is that you, O troubler of Israel?”
And it came to pass at the time of the offering of the evening sacrifice, that
Elijah the prophet came near, and said, LORD God of Abraham, Isaac, and of Israel, let it be known this day that thou
art God in Israel, and that I am thy servant, and that I have done all these things at thy word.
At the time of the evening sacrifice,
Elijah the prophet approached the altar and said, “O LORD, God of Abraham, Isaac, and Israel, let it be known this day that You are God in Israel and that I am Your servant and have done all these things at Your command.
Hear me, O LORD, hear me, that this people may know that thou art the LORD God, and that thou hast turned their heart back again.
Answer me, O LORD! Answer me, so that this people will know that You, the LORD, are God, and that You have turned their hearts back again.”
Then said he unto him, Because thou hast not obeyed the voice of the LORD, behold, as soon as thou
art departed from me, a lion shall
slay thee. And as soon as he was departed from him, a lion found him, and
slew him.
Then the prophet said to him, “Because you have not obeyed the voice of the LORD, as soon as you depart from me a lion will kill you.” And when he left, a lion found him and killed him.
And he said unto
Jehoshaphat,
Wilt thou go with me to battle to
Ramoth-
gilead? And
Jehoshaphat said to the king of Israel, I am as thou
art, my people as thy people, my horses as thy horses.
So he asked
Jehoshaphat, “Will you go with me to fight against
Ramoth-
gilead?”
Jehoshaphat answered the king of Israel, “I am like you, my people are your people, and my horses are your horses.”
Now therefore thus saith the LORD, Thou shalt not come down from that bed on which thou
art gone up, but shalt surely die. And
Elijah departed.
Therefore this is what the LORD says: ‘You will not get up from the bed on which you are lying. You will surely die.’” So
Elijah departed.
And they said unto him, There came a man up to meet us, and said unto us, Go, turn again unto the king that sent you, and say unto him, Thus saith the LORD, Is it not because there is not a God in Israel, that thou sendest to
enquire of
Baal-
zebub the god of
Ekron? therefore thou shalt not come down from that bed on which thou
art gone up, but shalt surely die.
They replied, “A man came up to meet us and said, ‘Go back to the king who sent you and tell him that this is what the LORD says: Is it because there is no God in Israel that you are sending these men to inquire of
Baal-
zebub, the god of
Ekron? Therefore you will not get up from the bed on which you are lying. You will surely die.’”
And he said unto him, Thus saith the LORD,
Forasmuch as thou hast sent messengers to
enquire of
Baal-
zebub the god of
Ekron, is it not because there is no God in Israel to
enquire of his word? therefore thou shalt not come down off that bed on which thou
art gone up, but shalt surely die.
And
Elijah said to King
Ahaziah, “This is what the LORD says: Is there really no God in Israel for you to inquire of His word? Is that why you have sent messengers to inquire of
Baal-
zebub, the god of
Ekron? Therefore you will not get up from the bed on which you are lying. You will surely die.”
And he went and sent to
Jehoshaphat the king of Judah, saying, The king of Moab hath rebelled against me:
wilt thou go with me against Moab to battle? And he said, I will go up: I am as thou
art, my people as thy people, and my horses as thy horses.
And he sent a message to
Jehoshaphat king of Judah: “The king of Moab has rebelled against me. Will you go with me to fight against Moab?” “I will go,” replied
Jehoshaphat. “I am like you, my people are your people, and my horses are your horses.”
And when thou art come in, thou shalt shut the door upon thee and upon thy sons, and shalt pour out into all those vessels, and thou shalt set aside that which is full.
Then go inside, shut the door behind you and your sons, and pour oil into all these jars, setting the full ones aside.”
Howbeit there were not made for the house of the LORD
bowls of silver,
snuffers, basons,
trumpets, any vessels of gold, or vessels of silver, of the money that was brought into the house of the LORD:
However, the money brought into the house of the LORD was not used for making silver basins,
wick trimmers,
sprinkling bowls,
trumpets, or any
articles of gold or silver for the house of the LORD.
And he took all the gold and silver, and all the vessels that were found in the house of the LORD, and in the treasures of the king’s house, and hostages, and returned to Samaria.
He took all the gold and silver and all the
articles found in the house of the LORD and in the
treasuries of the royal palace, as well as some hostages. Then he returned to Samaria.
And
Hezekiah prayed before the LORD, and said, O LORD God of Israel, which dwellest between the cherubims, thou
art the God, even thou alone, of all the kingdoms of the earth: thou hast made heaven and earth.
And
Hezekiah prayed before the LORD: “O LORD, God of Israel, enthroned between the
cherubim, You alone are God over all the kingdoms of the earth. You made the heavens and the earth.
Now therefore, O LORD our God, I
beseech thee, save thou us out of his hand, that all the kingdoms of the earth may know that thou
art the LORD God, even thou only.
And now, O LORD our God, please save us from his hand, so that all the kingdoms of the earth may know that You alone, O LORD, are God.”
And the king commanded Hilkiah the high priest, and the priests of the second order, and the keepers of the door, to bring forth out of the temple of the LORD all the vessels that were made for
Baal, and for the
grove, and for all the host of heaven: and he burned them without Jerusalem in the fields of Kidron, and carried the ashes of them unto
Bethel.
Then the king commanded Hilkiah the high priest, the priests second in rank, and the doorkeepers to remove from the temple of the LORD all the
articles made for
Baal, Asherah, and all the host of heaven. And he burned them outside Jerusalem in the fields of Kidron and carried their ashes to
Bethel.
And he carried out thence all the treasures of the house of the LORD, and the treasures of the king’s house, and cut in pieces all the vessels of gold which Solomon king of Israel had made in the temple of the LORD, as the LORD had said.
As the LORD had declared,
Nebuchadnezzar also carried off all the treasures from the house of the LORD and the royal palace, and he cut into pieces all the gold
articles that Solomon king of Israel had made in the temple of the LORD.
And the pots, and the shovels, and the
snuffers, and the spoons, and all the vessels of brass
wherewith they ministered, took they away.
They also took away the pots, shovels,
wick trimmers, dishes, and all the
articles of bronze used in the temple service.
The two pillars, one sea, and the bases which Solomon had made for the house of the LORD; the brass of all these vessels was without weight.
As for the two pillars, the Sea, and the movable stands that Solomon had made for the house of the LORD, the weight of the bronze from all these articles was beyond measure.
And certain of them had the charge of the ministering vessels, that they should bring them in and out by tale.
Some of them were in charge of the articles used in worship, to count them whenever they were brought in or taken out.
Some of them also were appointed to oversee the vessels, and all the instruments of the sanctuary, and the fine flour, and the wine, and the oil, and the
frankincense, and the spices.
Others were put in charge of the furnishings and other
articles of the sanctuary, as well as the fine flour, wine, oil,
frankincense, and spices.
And now, LORD, thou art God, and hast promised this goodness unto thy servant:
And now, O LORD, You are God! And You have promised this goodness to Your servant.
Likewise from Tibhath, and from Chun, cities of Hadarezer, brought David very much brass,
wherewith Solomon made the
brasen sea, and the pillars, and the vessels of brass.
And from Tibhath and
Cun, cities of Hadadezer, David took a large amount of bronze, with which Solomon made the bronze Sea, the pillars, and various bronze
articles.
He sent Hadoram his son to king David, to
enquire of his
welfare, and to
congratulate him, because he had fought against Hadarezer, and
smitten him; (for Hadarezer had war with Tou;) and with him all manner of vessels of gold and silver and brass.
he sent his son Hadoram to
greet King David and
bless him for fighting and defeating Hadadezer, who had been at war with Tou. Hadoram brought all kinds of
articles of gold and silver and bronze,
Now set your heart and your soul to seek the LORD your God; arise therefore, and build ye the sanctuary of the LORD God, to bring the ark of the covenant of the LORD, and the holy vessels of God, into the house that is to be built to the name of the LORD.
Now set your heart and soul to seek the LORD your God. Get started building the sanctuary of the LORD God, so that you may bring the ark of the covenant of the LORD and the holy articles of God into the temple that will be built for the Name of the LORD.”
And also unto the Levites; they shall no more carry the tabernacle, nor any vessels of it for the service thereof.
So now the Levites no longer need to carry the tabernacle or any of the articles for its service.”
Also for the courses of the priests and the Levites, and for all the work of the service of the house of the LORD, and for all the vessels of service in the house of the LORD.
for the divisions of the priests and Levites, for all the work of service in the house of the LORD, and for all the articles of service in the house of the LORD:
He gave of gold by weight for things of gold, for all instruments of all manner of service; silver also for all instruments of silver by weight, for all instruments of every kind of service:
the weight of all the gold articles for every kind of service; the weight of all the silver articles for every kind of service;
Now I have prepared with all my might for the house of my God the gold for things to be made of gold, and the silver for things of silver, and the brass for things of brass, the iron for things of iron, and wood for things of wood;
onyx stones, and stones to be set,
glistering stones, and of
divers colours, and all manner of precious stones, and marble stones in abundance.
Now with all my ability I have made provision for the house of my God—gold for the gold
articles, silver for the silver, bronze for the bronze, iron for the iron, and wood for the wood, as well as
onyx for the settings,
turquoise, stones of various colors, all kinds of precious stones, and slabs of marble—all in abundance.
The gold for things of gold, and the silver for things of silver, and for all manner of work to be made by the hands of
artificers. And who then is willing to
consecrate his service this day unto the LORD?
Thine, O LORD, is the greatness, and the power, and the glory, and the victory, and the majesty: for all that is in the heaven and in the earth is thine; thine is the kingdom, O LORD, and thou
art exalted as head above all.
Yours, O LORD, is the greatness and the power and the glory and the
splendor and the majesty, for everything in heaven and on earth belongs to You. Yours, O LORD, is the kingdom, and You are
exalted as head over all.
The pots also, and the shovels, and the fleshhooks, and all their instruments, did Huram his father make to king Solomon for the house of the LORD of bright brass.
and the pots, shovels, meat forks, and all the other articles. All these objects that Huram-abi made for King Solomon for the house of the LORD were of polished bronze.
Thus Solomon made all these vessels in great abundance: for the weight of the brass could not be found out.
Solomon made all these articles in such great abundance that the weight of the bronze could not be determined.
And they brought every man his present, vessels of silver, and vessels of gold, and
raiment,
harness, and spices, horses, and mules, a rate year by year.
Year after year, each
visitor would bring his tribute:
articles of silver and gold, clothing, weapons, spices, horses, and mules.
And
Asa cried unto the LORD his God, and said, LORD, it is nothing with thee to help, whether with many, or with them that have no power: help us, O LORD our God; for we rest on thee, and in thy name we go against this multitude. O LORD, thou
art our God; let not man prevail against thee.
Then
Asa cried out to the LORD his God: “O LORD, there is no one besides You to help the powerless against the mighty. Help us, O LORD our God, for we
rely on You, and in Your name we have come against this multitude. O LORD, You are our God. Do not let a mere
mortal prevail against You.”
And he brought into the house of God the things that his father had dedicated, and that he himself had dedicated, silver, and gold, and vessels.
And he brought into the house of God the silver and gold articles that he and his father had dedicated.
And they buried him in his own
sepulchres, which he had made for himself in the city of David, and laid him in the bed which was filled with sweet odours and
divers kinds of spices prepared by the
apothecaries’
art: and they made a very great burning for him.
And he was buried in the tomb that he had cut out for himself in the City of David. They laid him on a
bier that was full of spices and various
blended perfumes; then they made a great fire in his honor.
And
Ahab king of Israel said unto
Jehoshaphat king of Judah,
Wilt thou go with me to
Ramoth-
gilead? And he answered him, I am as thou
art, and my people as thy people; and we will be with thee in the war.
Ahab king of Israel asked
Jehoshaphat king of Judah, “Will you go with me against
Ramoth-
gilead?” And
Jehoshaphat replied, “I am like you, and my people are your people; we will join you in the war.”
And said, O LORD God of our fathers,
art not thou God in heaven? and rulest not thou over all the kingdoms of the heathen? and in thine hand is there not power and might, so that none is able to
withstand thee?
and said, “O LORD, God of our fathers, are You not the God who is in heaven, and do You not rule over all the kingdoms of the nations? Power and might are in Your hand, and no one can stand against You.
Art not thou our God, who
didst drive out the inhabitants of this land before thy people Israel, and gavest it to the seed of Abraham thy friend for ever?
Our God, did You not drive out the inhabitants of this land before Your people Israel and give it
forever to the descendants of Abraham Your friend?
