But before they lay down, the men of the city, even the men of
Sodom, compassed the house round, both old and young, all the people from every quarter:
Before they had gone to
bed, all the men of the city of
Sodom, both young and old, surrounded the house.
And Husham died, and
Hadad the son of
Bedad, who
smote Midian in the field of Moab, reigned in his
stead: and the name of his city was Avith.
When Husham died,
Hadad son of
Bedad, who defeated
Midian in the country of Moab, reigned in his place. And the name of his city was Avith.

hearkened not unto her, to lie by her, or to be with her.

And he said,
Swear unto me. And he
sware unto him. And Israel bowed himself upon the
bed’s head.
“
Swear to me,” Jacob said. So Joseph
swore to him, and Israel bowed in worship at the head of his
bed.
And one told Jacob, and said, Behold, thy son Joseph cometh unto thee: and Israel strengthened himself, and sat upon the bed.
When Jacob was told, “Your son Joseph has come to you,” Israel
rallied his strength and sat up in
bed.
Unstable as water, thou shalt not
excel; because thou wentest up to thy father’s
bed; then defiledst thou it: he went up to my
couch.
And when Jacob had made an end of commanding his sons, he gathered up his feet into the bed, and yielded up the ghost, and was gathered unto his people.

instructing his sons, he pulled his feet into the
bed and breathed his last, and he was gathered to his people.
And the river shall bring forth frogs abundantly, which shall go up and come into thine house, and into thy
bedchamber, and upon thy
bed, and into the house of thy servants, and upon thy people, and into thine ovens, and into thy kneadingtroughs:
The Nile will
teem with frogs, and they will come into your palace and up to your
bedroom and
onto your
bed, into the houses of your officials and your people, and into your ovens and
kneading bowls.
And if men
strive together, and one
smite another with a stone, or with his
fist, and he die not, but keepeth his
bed:
If men are quarreling and one strikes the other with a stone or a
fist, and he does not die but is confined to
bed,
Every
bed,
whereon he lieth that hath the issue, is unclean: and every thing,
whereon he sitteth, shall be unclean.
Any bed on which the man with the discharge lies will be unclean, and any furniture on which he sits will be unclean.
And
whosoever toucheth his
bed shall wash his clothes, and
bathe himself in water, and be unclean until the even.
Anyone who touches his
bed must wash his clothes and
bathe with water, and he will be unclean until evening.
And
whosoever toucheth her
bed shall wash his clothes, and
bathe himself in water, and be unclean until the even.
and
anyone who touches her
bed must wash his clothes and
bathe with water, and he will be unclean until evening.
And if it be on her
bed, or on any thing
whereon she sitteth, when he toucheth it, he shall be unclean until the even.
And whether it is a
bed or furniture on which she was sitting,
whoever touches it will be unclean until evening.
And if any man lie with her at all, and her flowers be upon him, he shall be unclean seven days; and all the
bed whereon he lieth shall be unclean.
If a man lies with her and her
menstrual flow touches him, he will be unclean for seven days, and any
bed on which he lies will become unclean.
Every
bed whereon she lieth all the days of her issue shall be unto her as the
bed of her separation: and
whatsoever she sitteth upon shall be unclean, as the uncleanness of her separation.
Any
bed on which she lies or any furniture on which she sits during the days of her discharge will be unclean, like her
bed during her
menstrual period.
For only
Og king of
Bashan remained of the
remnant of giants; behold, his
bedstead was a
bedstead of iron; is it not in
Rabbath of the children of
Ammon? nine cubits was the length thereof, and four cubits the breadth of it, after the
cubit of a man.
(For only
Og king of
Bashan had remained of the
remnant of the
Rephaim. His
bed of iron, nine cubits long and four cubits wide, is still in Rabbah of the
Ammonites.)
A man shall not take his father’s wife, nor discover his father’s
skirt.
A man is not to marry his father’s wife, so that he will not dishonor his father’s marriage bed.
Cursed be he that lieth with his father’s wife; because he uncovereth his father’s
skirt. And all the people shall say,
Amen.
‘
Cursed is he who sleeps with his father’s wife, for he has
violated his father’s marriage
bed.’ And let all the people say, ‘
Amen!’
And the LORD sent Jerubbaal, and
Bedan, and
Jephthah, and Samuel, and delivered you out of the hand of your enemies on every side, and ye dwelled safe.
So the LORD sent Jerubbaal,
Barak,
Jephthah, and Samuel, and He delivered you from the hands of your enemies on every side, and you dwelt securely.
And Michal took an image, and laid it in the
bed, and put a
pillow of goats hair for his
bolster, and covered it with a cloth.
Then Michal took a household
idol and laid it in the
bed, placed some goat hair on its head, and covered it with a garment.
And Saul sent the messengers again to see David, saying, Bring him up to me in the
bed, that I may
slay him.
But Saul sent the messengers back to see David and told them, “Bring him up to me in his bed so I can kill him.”
And when the messengers were come in, behold, there was an image in the
bed, with a
pillow of goats’ hair for his
bolster.
And when the messengers entered, there was the
idol in the
bed with the
quilt of goats’ hair on its head.
But he refused, and said, I will not eat. But his servants, together with the woman, compelled him; and he
hearkened unto their voice. So he arose from the earth, and sat upon the
bed.
Saul refused, saying, “I will not eat.” But his servants joined the woman in
urging him, and he
heeded their voice. He got up from the ground and sat on the
bed.
And the sons of
Rimmon the Beerothite, Rechab and Baanah, went, and came about the heat of the day to the house of
Ish-bosheth, who lay on a
bed at
noon.
Now Rechab and Baanah, the sons of
Rimmon the Beerothite, set out and arrived at the house of
Ish-bosheth in the heat of the day, while the king was taking his
midday nap.
For when they came into the house, he lay on his
bed in his
bedchamber, and they
smote him, and
slew him, and
beheaded him, and took his head, and
gat them away through the plain all night.
They had entered the house while
Ish-bosheth was lying on his
bed, and having
stabbed and killed him, they
beheaded him, took his head, and traveled all night by way of the Arabah.
How much more, when wicked men have slain a righteous person in his own house upon his bed? shall I not therefore now require his blood of your hand, and take you away from the earth?
How much more, when wicked men kill a righteous man in his own house and on his own bed, shall I not now require his blood from your hands and remove you from the earth!”
And it came to pass in an eveningtide, that David arose from off his bed, and walked upon the roof of the king’s house: and from the roof he saw a woman washing herself; and the woman was very beautiful to look upon.
One evening David got up from his
bed and
strolled around on the roof of the palace. And from the roof he saw a woman bathing—a very beautiful woman.

drunk: and at even he went out to lie on his
bed with the servants of his lord, but went not down to his house.
Then David invited Uriah to eat and drink with him, and he got Uriah
drunk. And in the evening Uriah went out to lie down on his
cot with his master’s servants, but he did not go home.
And Jonadab said unto him, Lay thee down on thy
bed, and make
thyself sick: and when thy father cometh to see thee, say unto him, I pray thee, let my sister Tamar come, and give me meat, and dress the meat in my sight, that I may see it, and eat it at her hand.
Jonadab told him, “Lie down on your bed and pretend you are ill. When your father comes to see you, say to him, ‘Please let my sister Tamar come and give me something to eat. Let her prepare it in my sight so I may watch her and eat it from her hand.’”
And Amnon said unto Tamar, Bring the meat into the chamber, that I may eat of thine hand. And Tamar took the cakes which she had made, and brought them into the chamber to Amnon her brother.
Then Amnon said to Tamar, “Bring the food into the
bedroom, so that I may eat it from your hand.” Tamar took the cakes she had made and went to her brother Amnon’s
bedroom.
Brought
beds, and basons, and
earthen vessels, and wheat, and barley, and flour, and
parched corn, and beans, and lentiles, and
parched pulse,
They brought
beds, basins, and
earthen vessels, as well as wheat, barley, flour,
roasted grain, beans, lentils,
And Bath-
sheba went in unto the king into the chamber: and the king was very old; and
Abishag the Shunammite ministered unto the king.
So Bathsheba went to see the king in his
bedroom. Since the king was very old,
Abishag the Shunammite was serving him.
And moreover the king’s servants came to
bless our lord king David, saying, God make the name of Solomon better than thy name, and make his throne greater than thy throne. And the king bowed himself upon the
bed.
The king’s servants have also gone to
congratulate our lord King David, saying, ‘May your God make the name of Solomon more famous than your own name, and may He make his throne greater than your throne.’ And the king has bowed in worship on his
bed,
And he said unto her, Give me thy son. And he took him out of her
bosom, and carried him up into a
loft, where he abode, and laid him upon his own
bed.
But
Elijah said to her, “Give me your son.” So he took him from her arms, carried him to the upper room where he was staying, and laid him on his own
bed.
And
Ahab came into his house heavy and displeased because of the word which
Naboth the Jezreelite had spoken to him: for he had said, I will not give thee the inheritance of my fathers. And he laid him down upon his
bed, and turned away his face, and would eat no bread.
So
Ahab went to his palace,
sullen and
angry because
Naboth the Jezreelite had told him, “I will not give you the inheritance of my fathers.” He lay down on his
bed, turned his face away, and refused to eat.
Now therefore thus saith the LORD, Thou shalt not come down from that
bed on which thou art gone up, but shalt surely die. And
Elijah departed.
Therefore this is what the LORD says: ‘You will not get up from the
bed on which you are lying. You will surely die.’” So
Elijah departed.
And they said unto him, There came a man up to meet us, and said unto us, Go, turn again unto the king that sent you, and say unto him, Thus saith the LORD, Is it not because there is not a God in Israel, that thou sendest to
enquire of
Baal-
zebub the god of
Ekron? therefore thou shalt not come down from that
bed on which thou art gone up, but shalt surely die.
They replied, “A man came up to meet us and said, ‘Go back to the king who sent you and tell him that this is what the LORD says: Is it because there is no God in Israel that you are sending these men to inquire of
Baal-
zebub, the god of
Ekron? Therefore you will not get up from the
bed on which you are lying. You will surely die.’”
And he said unto him, Thus saith the LORD,
Forasmuch as thou hast sent messengers to
enquire of
Baal-
zebub the god of
Ekron, is it not because there is no God in Israel to
enquire of his word? therefore thou shalt not come down off that
bed on which thou art gone up, but shalt surely die.
And
Elijah said to King
Ahaziah, “This is what the LORD says: Is there really no God in Israel for you to inquire of His word? Is that why you have sent messengers to inquire of
Baal-
zebub, the god of
Ekron? Therefore you will not get up from the
bed on which you are lying. You will surely die.”
Let us make a little chamber, I pray thee, on the wall; and let us set for him there a
bed, and a table, and a
stool, and a
candlestick: and it shall be, when he cometh to us, that he shall turn in thither.
Please let us make a small room
upstairs and put in it a
bed, a table, a chair, and a lamp for him. Then when he comes to us, he can stay there.”
And she went up, and laid him on the bed of the man of God, and shut the door upon him, and went out.
And she went up and laid him on the bed of the man of God. Then she shut the door and went out.
And when
Elisha was come into the house, behold, the child was dead, and laid upon his
bed.
When
Elisha reached the house, there was the boy lying dead on his
bed.
And he went up, and lay upon the child, and put his mouth upon his mouth, and his eyes upon his eyes, and his hands upon his hands: and he stretched himself upon the child; and the flesh of the child waxed warm.
Then
Elisha got on the
bed and lay on the boy, mouth to mouth, eye to eye, and hand to hand. As he stretched himself out over him, the boy’s body became warm.
Then he returned, and walked in the house to and
fro; and went up, and stretched himself upon him: and the child
sneezed seven times, and the child opened his eyes.
Elisha turned away and
paced back and forth across the room. Then he got on the
bed and stretched himself out over the boy again, and the boy
sneezed seven times and opened his eyes.
And one of his servants said, None, my lord, O king: but
Elisha, the prophet that is in Israel, telleth the king of Israel the words that thou speakest in thy
bedchamber.
But one of his servants replied, “No one, my lord the king. For
Elisha, the prophet in Israel, tells the king of Israel the very words you speak in your
bedroom.”
But Jehosheba daughter of King
Joram, the sister of
Ahaziah, took
Joash son of
Ahaziah and
stole him away from among the sons of the king who were being murdered. She put him and his
nurse in a
bedroom to hide him from
Athaliah, and he was not killed.
And when Husham was dead,
Hadad the son of
Bedad, which
smote Midian in the field of Moab, reigned in his
stead: and the name of his city was Avith.
When Husham died,
Hadad son of
Bedad, who defeated
Midian in the country of Moab, reigned in his place. And the name of his city was Avith.
And the sons of Ulam;
Bedan. These were the sons of
Gilead, the son of Machir, the son of
Manasseh.
The son of Ulam: Bedan.
And they buried him in his own
sepulchres, which he had made for himself in the city of David, and laid him in the
bed which was filled with sweet odours and
divers kinds of spices prepared by the
apothecaries’ art: and they made a very great burning for him.
And he was buried in the tomb that he had cut out for himself in the City of David. They laid him on a
bier that was full of spices and various
blended perfumes; then they made a great fire in his honor.
But Jehoshabeath, the daughter of the king, took
Joash the son of
Ahaziah, and
stole him from among the king’s sons that were slain, and put him and his
nurse in a
bedchamber. So Jehoshabeath, the daughter of king Jehoram, the wife of Jehoiada the priest, (for she was the sister of
Ahaziah,)
hid him from
Athaliah, so that she
slew him not.
But Jehoshabeath daughter of King Jehoram took
Joash son of
Ahaziah and
stole him away from among the sons of the king who were being murdered, and she put him and his
nurse in a
bedroom. Because Jehoshabeath, the daughter of King Jehoram and the wife of Jehoiada the priest, was
Ahaziah’s sister, she
hid Joash from
Athaliah so that she could not kill him.
And when they were departed from him, (for they left him in great diseases,) his own servants
conspired against him for the blood of the sons of Jehoiada the priest, and
slew him on his
bed, and he died: and they buried him in the city of David, but they buried him not in the
sepulchres of the kings.
And when the Arameans had withdrawn, they left
Joash severely wounded. His own servants
conspired against him for
shedding the blood of the son of Jehoiada the priest, and they killed him on his
bed. So he died and was buried in the City of David, but not in the tombs of the kings.
Benaiah, Bedeiah, Chelluh,
Maadai, Amram, Uel, Benaiah, Bedeiah, Cheluhi,
Where were white, green, and blue, hangings, fastened with cords of fine linen and purple to silver rings and pillars of marble: the
beds were of gold and silver, upon a
pavement of red, and blue, and white, and black, marble.
Hangings of white and blue linen were fastened with cords of fine white and purple material to silver rings on the marble pillars. Gold and silver couches were arranged on a mosaic
pavement of
porphyry, marble, mother-of-
pearl, and other costly stones.
Then the king returned out of the palace garden into the place of the
banquet of wine; and
Haman was fallen upon the
bed whereon Esther was. Then said the king, Will he force the queen also before me in the house? As the word went out of the king’s mouth, they covered
Haman’s face.
Just as the king returned from the palace garden to the
banquet hall,
Haman was falling on the
couch where
Esther was
reclining. The king
exclaimed, “Would he actually
assault the queen while I am in the palace?” As soon as the words had left the king’s mouth, they covered
Haman’s face.
When I say, My
bed shall comfort me, my
couch shall ease my
complaint;
When I think my
bed will comfort me and my
couch will ease my
complaint,
If I wait, the grave is mine house: I have made my bed in the darkness.
If I look for
Sheol as my home, if I spread out my
bed in darkness,
In a dream, in a vision of the night, when deep sleep falleth upon men, in slumberings upon the bed;
In a dream, in a vision in the night, when deep sleep falls upon men as they
slumber on their
beds,
He is
chastened also with pain upon his
bed, and the multitude of his bones with strong pain:
A man is also
chastened on his
bed with pain and constant distress in his bones,
Stand in
awe, and sin not: commune with your own heart upon your
bed, and be still.
Selah.
Be
angry, yet do not sin; on your
bed, search your heart and be still.
Selah He deviseth mischief upon his bed; he setteth himself in a way that is not good; he abhorreth not evil.
Even on his
bed he plots wickedness; he sets himself on a path that is not good; he fails to
reject evil.
The LORD will
sustain him on his
bed of illness and restore him from his
bed of sickness.
When I remember thee upon my
bed, and
meditate on thee in the night watches.
When I remember You on my bed, I think of You through the watches of the night.
Surely I will not come into the tabernacle of my house, nor go up into my bed;
“I will not enter my house or get into my bed,
If I
ascend up into heaven, thou art there: if I make my
bed in
hell, behold, thou art there.
If I
ascend to the heavens, You are there; if I make my
bed in
Sheol, You are there.
Let the saints be joyful in glory: let them sing
aloud upon their
beds.
Let the saints
exult in glory; let them
shout for joy upon their
beds.
I have decked my
bed with coverings of
tapestry, with carved works, with fine linen of Egypt.
I have decked my bed with coverings, with colored linen from Egypt.
If thou hast nothing to pay, why should he take away thy bed from under thee?
If you have nothing with which to pay, why should your bed be taken from under you?
As the door turneth upon his hinges, so
doth the
slothful upon his
bed.
As a door turns on its hinges, so the slacker turns on his bed.
She maketh herself coverings of
tapestry; her clothing is silk and purple.
She makes coverings for her bed; her clothing is fine linen and purple.
Curse not the king, no not in thy thought; and
curse not the rich in thy
bedchamber: for a bird of the air shall carry the voice, and that which hath wings shall tell the matter.
Do not
curse the king even in your thoughts, or
curse the rich even in your
bedroom, for a bird of the air may carry your words, and a winged creature may report your speech.
Behold, thou art fair, my beloved,
yea, pleasant: also our
bed is green.
How handsome you are, my beloved! Oh, how delightful! The soft grass is our bed.
By night on my bed I sought him whom my soul loveth: I sought him, but I found him not.
On my bed at night I sought the one I love; I sought him, but did not find him.
Behold, it is Solomon’s carriage,
escorted by sixty of the mightiest men of Israel.
His cheeks are as a
bed of spices, as sweet flowers: his lips like
lilies,
dropping sweet smelling
myrrh.
His hands are as gold rings set with the
beryl: his
belly is as bright ivory overlaid with sapphires.
His arms are rods of gold set with
beryl. His body is an ivory
panel bedecked with sapphires.
My beloved is gone down into his garden, to the
beds of spices, to feed in the gardens, and to gather
lilies.
My beloved has gone down to his garden, to the
beds of spices, to pasture his flock in the gardens and to gather
lilies.
Thy
pomp is brought down to the grave, and the noise of thy viols: the worm is spread under thee, and the worms cover thee.
Your
pomp has been brought down to
Sheol, along with the music of your harps. Maggots are your
bed and worms your
blanket.
For the
bed is shorter than that a man can stretch himself on it: and the covering narrower than that he can
wrap himself in it.
Indeed, the
bed is too short to stretch out on, and the
blanket too small to
wrap around you.
He shall enter into peace: they shall rest in their beds, each one walking in his uprightness.
Those who walk uprightly enter into peace; they find rest, lying down in death.
Upon a lofty and high mountain hast thou set thy bed: even thither wentest thou up to offer sacrifice.
On a high and lofty hill you have made your bed, and there you went up to offer sacrifices.
Behind the doors also and the posts hast thou set up thy
remembrance: for thou hast discovered
thyself to another than me, and art gone up; thou hast enlarged thy
bed, and made thee a covenant with them; thou lovedst their
bed where thou sawest it.
Behind the door and
doorpost you have set up your
memorial.
Forsaking Me, you uncovered your
bed; you
climbed up and opened it wide. And you have made a
pact with those whose
bed you have loved; you have
gazed upon their nakedness.
There was also another great eagle with great wings and many feathers: and, behold, this vine did bend her roots toward him, and shot forth her branches toward him, that he might water it by the furrows of her
plantation.
But there was another great eagle with great wings and many feathers. And behold, this vine bent its roots toward him. It stretched out its branches to him from its planting bed, so that he might water it.
Yea, behold, being planted, shall it
prosper? shall it not utterly wither, when the east wind toucheth it? it shall wither in the furrows where it grew.
Even if it is
transplanted, will it
flourish? Will it not completely wither when the east wind strikes? It will wither on the
bed where it
sprouted.’”
And the Babylonians came to her into the
bed of love, and they
defiled her with their
whoredom, and she was
polluted with them, and her mind was
alienated from them.
Then the Babylonians came to her, to the
bed of love, and in their
lust they
defiled her. But after she had been
defiled by them, she turned away in
disgust.
And satest upon a stately
bed, and a table prepared before it,
whereupon thou hast set mine incense and mine oil.
You sat on a
couch of
luxury with a table spread before it, on which you had set My incense and My oil,
They have set her a
bed in the midst of the slain with all her multitude: her graves are round about him: all of them
uncircumcised, slain by the sword: though their terror was caused in the land of the living, yet have they borne their shame with them that go down to the pit: he is put in the midst of them that be slain.
Among the slain they prepare a resting place for
Elam with all her hordes, with her graves all around her. All of them are
uncircumcised, slain by the sword, although their terror was once spread in the land of the living. They bear their disgrace with those who descend to the Pit. They are placed among the slain.
But there is a God in heaven that revealeth secrets, and maketh known to the king
Nebuchadnezzar what shall be in the latter days. Thy dream, and the visions of thy head upon thy
bed, are these;
But there is a God in heaven who reveals mysteries, and He has made known to King
Nebuchadnezzar what will happen in the latter days. Your dream and the visions that came into your mind as you lay on your
bed were these:
As for thee, O king, thy thoughts came into thy mind upon thy
bed, what should come to pass
hereafter: and he that revealeth secrets maketh known to thee what shall come to pass.
As you lay on your
bed, O king, your thoughts turned to the future, and the
Revealer of Mysteries made known to you what will happen.
I saw a dream which made me afraid, and the thoughts upon my bed and the visions of my head troubled me.
I had a dream, and it
frightened me; while in my
bed, the images and visions in my mind
alarmed me.
Thus were the visions of mine head in my bed; I saw, and behold a tree in the midst of the earth, and the height thereof was great.
In these visions of my mind as I was lying in bed, I saw this come to pass: There was a tree in the midst of the land, and its height was great.
I saw in the visions of my head upon my bed, and, behold, a watcher and an holy one came down from heaven;
As I lay on my bed, I also saw in the visions of my mind a watcher, a holy one, coming down from heaven.
In the first year of
Belshazzar king of Babylon Daniel had a dream and visions of his head upon his
bed: then he wrote the dream, and told the sum of the matters.
In the first year of the reign of
Belshazzar over Babylon, Daniel had a dream, and visions passed through his mind as he lay on his
bed. He wrote down the dream, and this is the summary of his account.
And they have not
cried unto me with their heart, when they
howled upon their
beds: they
assemble themselves for corn and wine, and they
rebel against me.
They do not cry out to Me from their hearts when they
wail upon their
beds. They
slash themselves for grain and new wine, but turn away from Me.
Thus saith the LORD; As the
shepherd taketh out of the mouth of the lion two legs, or a piece of an ear; so shall the children of Israel be taken out that dwell in Samaria in the corner of a
bed, and in Damascus in a
couch.
This is what the LORD says: “As the
shepherd snatches from the mouth of the lion two legs or a piece of an ear, so the Israelites dwelling in Samaria will be
rescued having just the corner of a
bed or the
cushion of a
couch.
That lie upon
beds of ivory, and stretch themselves upon their couches, and eat the lambs out of the flock, and the
calves out of the midst of the
stall;
You lie on
beds inlaid with ivory, and
lounge upon your couches. You
dine on lambs from the flock and
calves from the
stall.
Woe to them that
devise iniquity, and work evil upon their
beds! when the morning is light, they
practise it, because it is in the power of their hand.
Woe to those who
devise iniquity and plot evil on their
beds! At morning’s light they
accomplish it because the power is in their hands.
And when Jesus was come into Peter’s house, he saw his wife’s mother laid, and sick of a fever.
When Jesus arrived at Peter’s house, He saw Peter’s mother-in-law sick in bed with a fever.
And, behold, they brought to him a man sick of the
palsy, lying on a
bed: and Jesus seeing their faith said unto the sick of the
palsy; Son, be of good
cheer; thy sins be
forgiven thee.
Just then some men brought to Him a
paralytic lying on a mat. When Jesus saw their faith, He said to the
paralytic, “Take courage, son; your sins are
forgiven.”
