And
Absalom her
brother said unto her, Hath Amnon thy
brother been with thee? but hold now thy peace, my sister: he is thy
brother; regard not this thing. So Tamar remained
desolate in her
brother Absalom’s house.
Her
brother Absalom said to her, “Has your
brother Amnon been with you? Be quiet for now, my sister. He is your
brother. Do not take this thing to heart.” So Tamar lived as a
desolate woman in the house of her
brother Absalom.
And
Absalom spake unto his
brother Amnon neither good nor bad: for
Absalom hated Amnon, because he had forced his sister Tamar.
And
Absalom never said a word to Amnon, either good or bad, because he
hated Amnon for disgracing his sister Tamar.
Then said
Absalom, If not, I pray thee, let my
brother Amnon go with us. And the king said unto him, Why should he go with thee?
“If not,” said
Absalom, “please let my
brother Amnon go with us.” “Why should he go with you?” the king asked.
And Jonadab, the son of Shimeah David’s
brother, answered and said, Let not my lord suppose that they have slain all the young men the king’s sons; for Amnon only is dead: for by the appointment of
Absalom this hath been determined from the day that he forced his sister Tamar.
But Jonadab, the son of David’s
brother Shimeah, spoke up: “My lord must not think they have killed all the sons of the king, for only Amnon is dead. In fact,
Absalom has
planned this since the day Amnon
violated his sister Tamar.
And, behold, the whole family is risen against thine
handmaid, and they said, Deliver him that
smote his
brother, that we may kill him, for the life of his
brother whom he
slew; and we will destroy the heir also: and so they shall
quench my coal which is left, and shall not leave to my husband neither name nor remainder upon the earth.
Now the whole clan has risen up against your
maidservant and said, ‘Hand over the one who struck down his
brother, that we may put him to death for the life of the
brother whom he killed. Then we will cut off the heir as well!’ So they would
extinguish my one remaining
ember by not preserving my husband’s name or
posterity on the earth.”
Whereas thou camest but
yesterday, should I this day make thee go up and down with us? seeing I go
whither I may, return thou, and take back thy brethren: mercy and truth be with thee.
In fact, you arrived only
yesterday; should I make you
wander around with us
today while I do not know where I am going? Go back and take your
brothers with you. May the LORD show you loving devotion and faithfulness.”
And David sent forth a third part of the people under the hand of
Joab, and a third part under the hand of
Abishai the son of Zeruiah,
Joab’s
brother, and a third part under the hand of Ittai the Gittite. And the king said unto the people, I will surely go forth with you myself also.
He sent out the troops, a third under

And, behold, all the men of Israel came to the king, and said unto the king, Why have our brethren the men of Judah
stolen thee away, and have brought the king, and his household, and all David’s men with him, over Jordan?
Soon all the men of Israel came to the king and asked, “Why did our brothers, the men of Judah, take you away secretly and bring the king and his household across the Jordan, together with all of David’s men?”
But
Amasa took no
heed to the sword that was in

Abishai his
brother pursued after
Sheba the son of Bichri.

brother Absalom.
And he said, Thou knowest that the kingdom was mine, and that all Israel set their faces on me, that I should reign:
howbeit the kingdom is turned about, and is become my

And king Solomon answered and said unto his mother, And why
dost thou ask
Abishag the Shunammite for Adonijah? ask for him the kingdom also; for he is mine elder
brother; even for him, and for
Abiathar the priest, and for
Joab the son of Zeruiah.
King Solomon answered his mother, “Why do you request
Abishag the Shunammite for Adonijah? Since he is my older
brother, you might as well request the kingdom for him and for
Abiathar the priest and for
Joab son of Zeruiah!”
And he said, What cities are these which thou hast given me, my

Cabul, as they are called to this day.

So with
sackcloth around their waists and ropes around their heads, they went to the king of Israel and said, “Your servant Ben-
hadad says, ‘Please
spare my life.’” And the king answered, “Is he still alive? He is my
brother.”
Now the men did
diligently observe whether any thing would come from him, and did
hastily catch it: and they said, Thy
brother Ben-
hadad. Then he said, Go ye, bring him. Then Ben-
hadad came forth to him; and he caused him to come up into the
chariot.
Now the men were looking for a sign of hope, and they quickly

footstool of our God, and had made ready for the building:
Then King David rose to his feet and said, “
Listen to me, my
brothers and my people. It was in my heart to build a house as a resting place for the ark of the covenant of the LORD and as a
footstool for our God. I had made preparations to build it,
Thus saith the LORD, Ye shall not go up, nor fight against your brethren: return every man to his house: for this thing is done of me. And they obeyed the words of the LORD, and returned from going against
Jeroboam.

And
Rehoboam made

And what cause
soever shall come to you of your brethren that dwell in their cities, between blood and blood, between law and commandment, statutes and judgments, ye shall even
warn them that they
trespass not against the LORD, and so wrath come upon you, and upon your brethren: this do, and ye shall not
trespass.
For every dispute that comes before you from your
brothers who dwell in their cities—whether it regards
bloodshed or some other
violation of law, commandments, statutes, or ordinances—you are to
warn them, so that they will not
incur guilt before the LORD and wrath will not come upon you and your
brothers. Do this, and you will not
incur guilt.
Now when Jehoram was risen up to the kingdom of his father, he strengthened himself, and

But hast walked in the way of the kings of Israel, and hast made Judah and the inhabitants of Jerusalem to go a
whoring, like to the whoredoms of the house of
Ahab, and also hast slain thy brethren of thy father’s house, which were better than
thyself:
but you have walked in the ways of the kings of Israel and have caused Judah and the people of Jerusalem to
prostitute themselves, just as the house of
Ahab prostituted itself. You have also killed your
brothers, your father’s family, who were better than you.
And it came to pass, that, when
Jehu was
executing judgment upon the house of
Ahab, and found the princes of Judah, and the sons of the brethren of
Ahaziah, that ministered to
Ahaziah, he
slew them.
So while

And the men which were expressed by name rose up, and took the
captives, and with the
spoil clothed all that were naked among them, and
arrayed them, and
shod them, and gave them to eat and to drink, and
anointed them, and carried all the feeble of them upon
asses, and brought them to
Jericho, the city of palm trees, to their brethren: then they returned to Samaria.
Then the men who were designated by name arose, took charge of the
captives, and provided from the
plunder clothing for the naked. They clothed them, gave them
sandals and food and drink,
anointed their wounds, and put all the feeble on
donkeys. So they brought them to
Jericho, the City of Palms, to their
brothers. Then they returned to Samaria.
And they gathered their brethren, and
sanctified themselves, and came, according to the commandment of the king, by the words of the LORD, to
cleanse the house of the LORD.

brothers and consecrated themselves, they went in to
cleanse the house of the LORD, according to the command of the king by the words of the LORD.
But the priests were too few, so that they could not
flay all the burnt offerings: wherefore their brethren the Levites did help them, till the work was ended, and until the other priests had
sanctified themselves: for the Levites were more upright in heart to
sanctify themselves than the priests.
However, since there were not enough priests to skin all the burnt offerings, their
Levite brothers helped them until the work was finished and until the priests had been consecrated. For the Levites had been more
diligent in
consecrating themselves than the priests had been.
And be not ye like your fathers, and like your brethren, which
trespassed against the LORD God of their fathers, who therefore gave them up to
desolation, as ye see.
Do not be like your fathers and
brothers who were unfaithful to the LORD, the God of their fathers, so that He made them an object of
horror, as you can see.
