darkness.

darkness like those long since dead.

stumble.

darting into a
snare— not knowing it will cost him his life.

The wise man’s eyes are in his head; but the
fool walketh in
darkness: and I myself perceived also that one event happeneth to them all.

fool walks in
darkness. Yet I also came to
realize that one fate overcomes them both.

rejoice in them all. But let him remember the days of
darkness, for they will be many. Everything to come is
futile.

darkened, nor the clouds return after the rain:

darkened, and the clouds return after the rain,
In the day when the keepers of the house shall
tremble, and the strong men shall bow themselves, and the grinders cease because they are few, and those that look out of the windows be
darkened,
on the day the keepers of the house
tremble and the strong men
stoop, when those
grinding cease because they are few and those watching through windows see
dimly,
I am black, but comely, O ye daughters of Jerusalem, as the tents of
Kedar, as the curtains of Solomon.
I am
dark, yet lovely, O daughters of Jerusalem, like the tents of
Kedar, like the curtains of Solomon.
Look not upon me, because I am black, because the sun hath looked upon me: my mother’s children were
angry with me; they made me the keeper of the vineyards; but mine own
vineyard have I not kept.
Do not
stare because I am
dark, for the sun has
gazed upon me. My mother’s sons were
angry with me; they made me a keeper of the vineyards, but my own
vineyard I have neglected.
I have compared thee, O my love, to a company of horses in Pharaoh’s
chariots.

darling! Oh, how very beautiful! Your eyes are like doves.

lily among the thorns is my
darling among the maidens.

darling. Come away with me, my beautiful one.

grape give a good smell. Arise, my love, my fair one, and come away.

blossoming vines spread their
fragrance. Arise, come away, my
darling; come away with me, my beautiful one.”
Behold, thou art fair, my love; behold, thou art fair; thou hast doves’ eyes within thy locks: thy hair is as a flock of goats, that appear from mount
Gilead.
How beautiful you are, my
darling— how very beautiful! Your eyes are like doves behind your
veil. Your hair is like a flock of goats streaming down Mount
Gilead.
Thou art all fair, my love; there is no spot in thee.
You are altogether beautiful, my
darling; in you there is no
flaw.
I sleep, but my heart waketh: it is the voice of my beloved that knocketh, saying, Open to me, my sister, my love, my
dove, my
undefiled: for my head is filled with
dew, and my locks with the drops of the night.
Thou art beautiful, O my love, as Tirzah, comely as Jerusalem, terrible as an army with banners.
You are as beautiful, my
darling, as Tirzah, as lovely as Jerusalem, as
majestic as troops with banners.
Woe unto them that call evil good, and good evil; that put
darkness for light, and light for
darkness; that put bitter for sweet, and sweet for bitter!
Woe to those who call evil good and good evil, who turn
darkness to light and light to
darkness, who replace bitter with sweet and sweet with bitter.
And in that day they shall
roar against them like the
roaring of the sea: and if one look unto the land, behold
darkness and sorrow, and the light is
darkened in the heavens thereof.
In that day they will
roar over it, like the
roaring of the sea. If one looks over the land, he will see
darkness and distress; even the light will be obscured by clouds.
And they shall look unto the earth; and behold trouble and
darkness,
dimness of
anguish; and they shall be driven to
darkness.
Then they will look to the earth and see only distress and
darkness and the
gloom of
anguish. And they will be driven into utter
darkness.
The people that walked in
darkness have seen a great light: they that dwell in the land of the shadow of death, upon them hath the light
shined.
The people walking in
darkness have seen a great light; on those living in the land of the shadow of death, a light has
dawned.
Through the wrath of the LORD of hosts is the land
darkened, and the people shall be as the fuel of the fire: no man shall
spare his brother.
By the wrath of the LORD of Hosts the land is
scorched, and the people are fuel for the fire. No man even spares his brother.
For the stars of heaven and the constellations thereof shall not give their light: the sun shall be
darkened in his going forth, and the moon shall not cause her light to
shine.
For the stars of heaven and their constellations will not give their light. The rising sun will be
darkened, and the moon will not give its light.
Take counsel,
execute judgment; make thy shadow as the night in the midst of the
noonday; hide the outcasts;
bewray not him that wandereth.
“Give us counsel; render a decision. Shelter us at
noonday with shade as
dark as night. Hide the refugees; do not
betray the one who flees.
There is a crying for wine in the streets; all joy is
darkened, the
mirth of the land is gone.

gloom;
rejoicing is exiled from the land.
Woe unto them that seek deep to hide their counsel from the LORD, and their works are in the
dark, and they say, Who
seeth us? and who knoweth us?
Woe to those who
dig deep to hide their plans from the LORD. In
darkness they do their works and say, “Who sees us, and who will know?”
And in that day shall the
deaf hear the words of the book, and the eyes of the blind shall see out of obscurity, and out of
darkness.
On that day the
deaf will hear the words of the
scroll, and out of the deep
darkness the eyes of the blind will see.
To open the blind eyes, to bring out the prisoners from the prison, and them that sit in darkness out of the prison house.
to open the eyes of the blind, to bring prisoners out of the
dungeon and those sitting in
darkness out from the prison house.
And I will bring the blind by a way that they knew not; I will lead them in paths that they have not known: I will make
darkness light before them, and
crooked things straight. These things will I do unto them, and not
forsake them.
I will lead the blind by a way they did not know; I will guide them on unfamiliar paths. I will turn
darkness into light before them and rough places into level ground. These things I will do for them, and I will not
forsake them.
And I will give thee the treasures of darkness, and hidden riches of secret places, that thou mayest know that I, the LORD, which call thee by thy name, am the God of Israel.

create darkness: I make peace, and
create evil: I the LORD do all these things.

create the
darkness; I bring prosperity and
create calamity. I, the LORD, do all these things.
Thus saith the LORD, the Holy One of Israel, and his Maker, Ask me of things to come concerning my sons, and concerning the work of my hands command ye me.
Thus says the LORD, the Holy One of Israel, and its Maker: “How
dare you question Me about My sons, or
instruct Me in the work of My hands?
I have not spoken in secret, in a dark place of the earth: I said not unto the seed of Jacob, Seek ye me in vain: I the LORD speak righteousness, I declare things that are right.
I have not spoken in secret, from a place in a land of darkness. I did not say to the descendants of Jacob, ‘Seek Me in a wasteland.’ I, the LORD, speak the truth; I say what is right.
Sit thou silent, and get thee into darkness, O daughter of the Chaldeans: for thou shalt no more be called, The lady of kingdoms.

darkness, O Daughter of
Chaldea. For you will no longer be called the queen of kingdoms.
That thou mayest say to the prisoners, Go forth; to them that are in
darkness,
Shew yourselves. They shall feed in the ways, and their pastures shall be in all high places.

darkness, ‘Show
yourselves.’ They will feed along the pathways, and find pasture on every barren hill.
He is near that justifieth me; who will
contend with me? let us stand together: who is mine
adversary? let him come near to me.
The One who vindicates Me is near. Who will
dare to
contend with Me? Let us
confront each other! Who has a case against Me? Let him approach Me!
Who is among you that feareth the LORD, that obeyeth the voice of his servant, that walketh in darkness, and hath no light? let him trust in the name of the LORD, and stay upon his God.
Who among you fears the LORD and obeys the voice of His Servant? Who among you walks in
darkness and has no light? Let him trust in the name of the LORD; let him
lean on his God.
And if thou draw out thy soul to the
hungry, and satisfy the
afflicted soul; then shall thy light rise in obscurity, and thy
darkness be as the
noonday:
and if you give
yourself to the
hungry and satisfy the
afflicted soul, then your light will go forth in the
darkness, and your night will be like
noonday.
Therefore is judgment far from us, neither
doth justice overtake us: we wait for light, but behold obscurity; for brightness, but we walk in
darkness.
Therefore justice is far from us, and righteousness does not reach us. We hope for light, but there is
darkness; for brightness, but we walk in
gloom.
For, behold, the darkness shall cover the earth, and gross darkness the people: but the LORD shall arise upon thee, and his glory shall be seen upon thee.
For behold, darkness covers the earth, and thick darkness is over the peoples; but the LORD will rise upon you, and His glory will appear over you.
Neither said they, Where is the LORD that brought us up out of the land of Egypt, that led us through the wilderness, through a land of deserts and of pits, through a land of
drought, and of the shadow of death, through a land that no man passed through, and where no man dwelt?
They did not ask, ‘Where is the LORD who brought us up from the land of Egypt, who led us through the wilderness, through a land of deserts and pits, a land of
drought and
darkness, a land where no one travels and no one lives?’
O generation, see ye the word of the LORD. Have I been a wilderness unto Israel? a land of darkness? wherefore say my people, We are lords; we will come no more unto thee?
You people of this generation, consider the word of the LORD: “Have I been a wilderness to Israel or a land of dense
darkness? Why do My people say, ‘We are free to
roam; we will come to You no more’?
For this shall the earth
mourn, and the heavens above be black: because I have spoken it, I have purposed it, and will not
repent, neither will I turn back from it.
Therefore the earth will
mourn and the heavens above will grow
dark. I have spoken, I have
planned, and I will not relent or turn back.”
Give glory to the LORD your God, before he cause
darkness, and before your feet
stumble upon the
dark mountains, and, while ye look for light, he turn it into the shadow of death, and make it gross
darkness.
Give glory to the LORD your God before He brings
darkness, before your feet
stumble on the
dusky mountains. You wait for light, but He turns it into deep
gloom and thick
darkness.
Wherefore their way shall be unto them as
slippery ways in the
darkness: they shall be driven on, and fall therein: for I will bring evil upon them, even the year of their
visitation, saith the LORD.
“Therefore their path will become
slick; they will be driven away into the
darkness and fall into it. For I will bring
disaster upon them in the year of their punishment,” declares the LORD.
Why hast thou
prophesied in the name of the LORD, saying, This house shall be like
Shiloh, and this city shall be
desolate without an inhabitant? And all the people were gathered against Jeremiah in the house of the LORD.
How
dare you
prophesy in the name of the LORD that this house will become like
Shiloh and this city will be
desolate and deserted!” And all the people assembled against Jeremiah in the house of the LORD.
And their nobles shall be of themselves, and their governor shall proceed from the midst of them; and I will cause him to draw near, and he shall approach unto me: for who is this that engaged his heart to approach unto me? saith the LORD.
Their leader will be one of their own, and their ruler will arise from their midst. And I will bring him near, and he will approach Me, for who would
dare on his own to approach Me?” declares the LORD.
He hath led me, and brought me into darkness, but not into light.
He has driven me away and made me walk in darkness instead of light.
He hath set me in dark places, as they that be dead of old.
He has made me dwell in darkness like those dead for ages.
They have
wandered as blind men in the streets, they have
polluted themselves with blood, so that men could not touch their garments.
They
wandered blind in the streets,
defiled by this blood, so that no one
dared to touch their garments.
And the living creatures ran and returned as the appearance of a
flash of
lightning.
Then said he unto me, Son of man, hast thou seen what the ancients of the house of Israel do in the
dark, every man in the chambers of his
imagery? for they say, The LORD
seeth us not; the LORD hath
forsaken the earth.
“Son of man,” He said to me, “do you see what the elders of the house of Israel are doing in the
darkness, each at the
shrine of his own
idol? For they are saying, ‘The LORD does not see us; the LORD has
forsaken the land.’”
At Tehaphnehes also the day shall be
darkened, when I shall break there the yokes of Egypt: and the
pomp of her strength shall cease in her: as for her, a cloud shall cover her, and her daughters shall go into captivity.
The day will be
darkened in Tahpanhes when I break the yoke of Egypt and her proud strength comes to an end. A cloud will cover her, and her daughters will go into captivity.
And when I shall put thee out, I will cover the heaven, and make the stars thereof dark; I will cover the sun with a cloud, and the moon shall not give her light.
When I
extinguish you, I will cover the heavens and
darken their stars. I will cover the sun with a cloud, and the moon will not give its light.
All the bright lights of heaven will I make dark over thee, and set darkness upon thy land, saith the Lord GOD.
All the
shining lights in the heavens I will
darken over you, and I will bring
darkness upon your land,’ declares the Lord GOD.
As a
shepherd seeketh out his flock in the day that he is among his sheep that are scattered; so will I seek out my sheep, and will deliver them out of all places where they have been scattered in the
cloudy and
dark day.
As a
shepherd looks for his scattered sheep when he is among the flock, so I will look for My flock. I will
rescue them from all the places to which they were scattered on a day of clouds and
darkness.
He revealeth the deep and secret things: he knoweth what is in the darkness, and the light dwelleth with him.
He reveals the deep and hidden things; He knows what lies in darkness, and light dwells with Him.
And
Darius the Median took the kingdom, being about
threescore and two years old.
and
Darius the
Mede received the kingdom at the age of sixty-two.
It pleased
Darius to set over the kingdom an hundred and twenty princes, which should be over the whole kingdom;
Now it pleased
Darius to
appoint 120 satraps to rule throughout the kingdom,
Then these presidents and princes assembled together to the king, and said thus unto him, King
Darius, live for ever.
So the administrators and satraps went together to the king and said, “O King
Darius, may you live
forever!
Wherefore king
Darius signed the writing and the decree.
Therefore King
Darius signed the written decree.
