But above all things, my brethren,
swear not, neither by heaven, neither by the
earth, neither by any other oath: but let your
yea be
yea; and your
nay,
nay; lest ye fall into
condemnation.
Above all, my brothers, do not
swear, not by heaven or
earth or by any other oath. Simply let your “
Yes” be
yes, and your “No,” no, so that you will not fall under judgment.
Elias was a man subject to like passions as we are, and he prayed earnestly that it might not rain: and it rained not on the earth by the space of three years and six months.
Elijah was a man just like us. He prayed earnestly that it would not rain, and it did not rain on the land for three and a half years.
And he prayed again, and the heaven gave rain, and the earth brought forth her fruit.
Again he prayed, and the heavens gave rain, and the earth yielded its crops.
That he no longer should live the rest of his time in the flesh to the lusts of men, but to the will of God.
Consequently, he does not live out his remaining time on earth for human passions, but for the will of God.
For this they willingly are ignorant of, that by the word of God the heavens were of old, and the earth standing out of the water and in the water:
But they
deliberately overlook the fact that long ago by God’s word the heavens existed and the
earth was formed out of water and by water,
But the heavens and the
earth, which are now, by the same word are kept in store, reserved unto fire against the day of judgment and
perdition of ungodly men.
And by that same word, the present heavens and earth are reserved for fire, being kept for the day of judgment and destruction of ungodly men.
But the day of the Lord will come as a
thief in the night; in the which the heavens shall pass away with a great noise, and the elements shall
melt with
fervent heat, the
earth also and the works that are therein shall be burned up.
But the Day of the Lord will come like a
thief. The heavens will disappear with a
roar, the elements will be destroyed by fire, and the
earth and its works will be laid bare.
Nevertheless we, according to his promise, look for new heavens and a new earth, wherein dwelleth righteousness.
But in keeping with God’s promise, we are looking forward to a new heaven and a new earth, where righteousness dwells.
But
whoso hath this world’s good, and
seeth his brother have need, and shutteth up his
bowels of
compassion from him, how dwelleth the love of God in him?
If
anyone with
earthly possessions sees his brother in need, but withholds his
compassion from him, how can the love of God
abide in him?
And there are three that bear witness in earth, the spirit, and the water, and the blood: and these three agree in one.
the Spirit, the water, and the blood—and these three are in agreement.
And from Jesus Christ, who is the faithful witness, and the first
begotten of the dead, and the prince of the kings of the
earth. Unto him that loved us, and washed us from our sins in his own blood,
and from Jesus Christ, the faithful witness, the
firstborn from the dead, and the ruler of the kings of the
earth. To Him who loves us and has released us from our sins by His blood,
Behold, he cometh with clouds; and every eye shall see him, and they also which pierced him: and all kindreds of the
earth shall
wail because of him. Even so,
Amen.
Behold, He is coming with the clouds, and every eye will see Him—even those who pierced Him. And all the tribes of the
earth will
mourn because of Him. So shall it be!
Amen.
Because thou hast kept the word of my
patience, I also will keep thee from the hour of
temptation, which shall come upon all the world, to try them that dwell upon the
earth.
Because you have kept My command to
persevere, I will also keep you from the hour of testing that is about to come upon the whole world, to test those who dwell on the
earth.
And no man in heaven, nor in
earth, neither under the
earth, was able to open the book, neither to look
thereon.
But no one in heaven or on
earth or under the
earth was able to open the
scroll or look inside it.
And I
beheld, and, lo, in the midst of the throne and of the four beasts, and in the midst of the elders, stood a Lamb as it had been slain, having seven horns and seven eyes, which are the seven Spirits of God sent forth into all the
earth.
Then I saw a Lamb who appeared to have been slain, standing in the center of the throne,
encircled by the four living creatures and the elders. The Lamb had seven horns and seven eyes, which represent the seven Spirits of God sent out into all the
earth.
And hast made us unto our God kings and priests: and we shall reign on the earth.
You have made them to be a kingdom and priests to serve our God, and they will reign upon the earth.”
And every creature which is in heaven, and on the earth, and under the earth, and such as are in the sea, and all that are in them, heard I saying, Blessing, and honour, and glory, and power, be unto him that sitteth upon the throne, and unto the Lamb for ever and ever.
And I heard every creature in heaven and on
earth and under the
earth and in the sea, and all that is in them, saying: “To Him who sits on the throne and to the Lamb be praise and honor and glory and power
forever and ever!”
And there went out another horse that was red: and power was given to him that sat
thereon to take peace from the
earth, and that they should kill one another: and there was given unto him a great sword.
Then another horse went forth. It was bright red, and its rider was granted permission to take away peace from the
earth and to make men
slay one another. And he was given a great sword.
And I looked, and behold a pale horse: and his name that sat on him was Death, and
Hell followed with him. And power was given unto them over the fourth part of the
earth, to kill with sword, and with hunger, and with death, and with the beasts of the
earth.
Then I looked and saw a pale green horse. Its rider’s name was Death, and Hades followed close behind. And they were given authority over a fourth of the earth, to kill by sword, by famine, by plague, and by the beasts of the earth.
And they
cried with a loud voice, saying, How long, O Lord, holy and true,
dost thou not judge and
avenge our blood on them that dwell on the
earth?
And they
cried out in a loud voice, “How long, O Lord, holy and true, until You
avenge our blood and judge those who dwell upon the
earth?”
And I
beheld when he had opened the sixth seal, and, lo, there was a great
earthquake; and the sun became black as
sackcloth of hair, and the moon became as blood;
And when I saw the Lamb open the sixth seal, there was a great
earthquake, and the sun became black like
sackcloth of goat hair, and the whole moon turned blood red,
And the stars of heaven fell unto the
earth, even as a fig tree casteth her untimely figs, when she is
shaken of a mighty wind.
and the stars of the sky fell to the
earth like unripe figs
dropping from a tree
shaken by a great wind.
And the kings of the
earth, and the great men, and the rich men, and the chief captains, and the mighty men, and every
bondman, and every free man,
hid themselves in the dens and in the rocks of the mountains;
Then the kings of the
earth, the nobles, the commanders, the rich, the mighty, and every slave and free man
hid in the caves and among the rocks of the mountains.
And after these things I saw four angels standing on the four corners of the earth, holding the four winds of the earth, that the wind should not blow on the earth, nor on the sea, nor on any tree.
After this I saw four angels standing at the four corners of the earth, holding back its four winds so that no wind would blow on land or sea or on any tree.
And I saw another angel ascending from the east, having the seal of the living God: and he
cried with a loud voice to the four angels, to whom it was given to
hurt the
earth and the sea,
And I saw another angel ascending from the east, with the seal of the living God. And he called out in a loud voice to the four angels who had been given power to
harm the land and the sea:
Saying,
Hurt not the
earth, neither the sea, nor the trees, till we have sealed the servants of our God in their foreheads.
“Do not
harm the land or sea or trees until we have sealed the foreheads of the servants of our God.”
And the angel took the
censer, and filled it with fire of the altar, and cast it into the
earth: and there were voices, and thunderings, and lightnings, and an
earthquake.
The first angel sounded, and there followed
hail and fire mingled with blood, and they were cast upon the
earth: and the third part of trees was burnt up, and all green grass was burnt up.
Then the first angel sounded his
trumpet, and
hail and fire mixed with blood were
hurled down upon the
earth. A third of the
earth was burned up, along with a third of the trees and all the green grass.
And I
beheld, and heard an angel flying through the midst of heaven, saying with a loud voice,
Woe,
woe,
woe, to the inhabiters of the
earth by reason of the other voices of the
trumpet of the three angels, which are yet to sound!
And as I observed, I heard an eagle flying overhead, calling in a loud voice, “
Woe!
Woe!
Woe to those who dwell on the
earth, because of the
trumpet blasts about to be sounded by the remaining three angels!”
And the fifth angel sounded, and I saw a star fall from heaven unto the earth: and to him was given the key of the bottomless pit.
Then the fifth angel sounded his
trumpet, and I saw a star that had fallen from heaven to
earth, and it was given the key to the pit of the
Abyss.
And there came out of the smoke locusts upon the earth: and unto them was given power, as the scorpions of the earth have power.
And out of the smoke, locusts descended on the earth, and they were given power like that of the scorpions of the earth.
And it was commanded them that they should not
hurt the grass of the
earth, neither any green thing, neither any tree; but only those men which have not the seal of God in their foreheads.
They were told not to
harm the grass of the
earth or any plant or tree, but only those who did not have the seal of God on their foreheads.
And he had in his hand a little book open: and he set his right foot upon the sea, and his left foot on the earth,
He held in his hand a small
scroll, which lay open. He placed his right foot on the sea and his left foot on the land.
And the angel which I saw stand upon the sea and upon the earth lifted up his hand to heaven,
Then the angel I had seen standing on the sea and on the land lifted up his right hand to heaven.
And
sware by him that liveth for ever and ever, who created heaven, and the things that therein are, and the
earth, and the things that therein are, and the sea, and the things which are therein, that there should be time no longer:
And he
swore by Him who lives
forever and ever, who created heaven and everything in it, the
earth and everything in it, and the sea and everything in it: “There will be no more delay!
And the voice which I heard from heaven spake unto me again, and said, Go and take the little book which is open in the hand of the angel which standeth upon the sea and upon the earth.
Then the voice that I had heard from heaven spoke to me again, saying, “Go, take the small
scroll that lies open in the hand of the angel standing on the sea and on the land.”
These are the two olive trees, and the two candlesticks standing before the God of the earth.
These witnesses are the two olive trees and the two lampstands that stand before the Lord of the earth.
These have power to shut heaven, that it rain not in the days of their prophecy: and have power over waters to turn them to blood, and to
smite the
earth with all plagues, as often as they will.
These witnesses have power to shut the sky so that no rain will fall during the days of their prophecy, and power to turn the waters into blood and to strike the earth with every kind of plague as often as they wish.
And they that dwell upon the
earth shall
rejoice over them, and make
merry, and shall send gifts one to another; because these two prophets
tormented them that dwelt on the
earth.
And those who dwell on the
earth will
gloat over them, and will
celebrate and send one another gifts, because these two prophets had
tormented them.
And the same hour was there a great
earthquake, and the tenth part of the city fell, and in the
earthquake were slain of men seven thousand: and the
remnant were
affrighted, and gave glory to the God of heaven.
And in that hour there was a great
earthquake, and a tenth of the city
collapsed. Seven thousand were killed in the
quake, and the rest were
terrified and gave glory to the God of heaven.
And the nations were
angry, and thy wrath is come, and the time of the dead, that they should be judged, and that thou shouldest give reward unto thy servants the prophets, and to the saints, and them that fear thy name, small and great; and shouldest destroy them which destroy the
earth.
The nations were
enraged, and Your wrath has come. The time has come to judge the dead and to reward Your servants the prophets, as well as the saints and those who fear Your name, both small and great— and to destroy those who destroy the
earth.”
And the temple of God was opened in heaven, and there was seen in his temple the ark of his testament: and there were lightnings, and voices, and thunderings, and an
earthquake, and great
hail.
Then the temple of God in heaven was opened, and the ark of His covenant appeared in His temple. And there were
flashes of
lightning, and rumblings, and peals of
thunder, and an
earthquake, and a great
hailstorm.
And his tail drew the third part of the stars of heaven, and did cast them to the
earth: and the
dragon stood before the woman which was ready to be delivered, for to
devour her child as soon as it was born.
His tail swept a third of the stars from the sky,
tossing them to the
earth. And the
dragon stood before the woman who was about to give birth, ready to
devour her child as soon as she gave birth.
And the great
dragon was cast out, that old serpent, called the Devil, and
Satan, which deceiveth the whole world: he was cast out into the
earth, and his angels were cast out with him.
And the great
dragon was
hurled down—that ancient serpent called the devil and
Satan, the
deceiver of the whole world. He was
hurled to the
earth, and his angels with him.
Therefore
rejoice, ye heavens, and ye that dwell in them.
Woe to the inhabiters of the
earth and of the sea! for the devil is come down unto you, having great wrath, because he knoweth that he hath but a short time.
Therefore
rejoice, O heavens, and you who dwell in them! But
woe to the
earth and the sea; with great
fury the devil has come down to you, knowing he has only a short time.”
And when the
dragon saw that he was cast unto the
earth, he
persecuted the woman which brought forth the man child.
And when the
dragon saw that he had been thrown to the
earth, he pursued the woman who had given birth to the male child.
And the
earth helped the woman, and the
earth opened her mouth, and
swallowed up the flood which the
dragon cast out of his mouth.
But the
earth helped the woman and opened its mouth to
swallow up the river that had poured from the
dragon’s mouth.
And all that dwell upon the earth shall worship him, whose names are not written in the book of life of the Lamb slain from the foundation of the world.
And all who dwell on the earth will worship the beast—all whose names have not been written from the foundation of the world in the Book of Life belonging to the Lamb who was slain.
And I
beheld another beast coming up out of the
earth; and he had two horns like a lamb, and he spake as a
dragon.
Then I saw another beast rising out of the
earth. This beast had two horns like a lamb, but spoke like a
dragon.
And he exerciseth all the power of the first beast before him, and causeth the
earth and them which dwell therein to worship the first beast, whose deadly wound was
healed.
And this beast exercised all the authority of the first beast and caused the
earth and those who dwell in it to worship the first beast, whose
mortal wound had been
healed.
And he doeth great wonders, so that he maketh fire come down from heaven on the earth in the sight of men,
And the second beast performed great signs to cause even fire from heaven to come down to earth in the presence of the people.
And deceiveth them that dwell on the earth by the means of those miracles which he had power to do in the sight of the beast; saying to them that dwell on the earth, that they should make an image to the beast, which had the wound by a sword, and did live.
Because of the signs it was given to perform on behalf of the first beast, it
deceived those who dwell on the
earth, telling them to make an image to the beast that had been wounded by the sword and yet had lived.
And they sung as it were a new song before the throne, and before the four beasts, and the elders: and no man could learn that song but the hundred and forty and four thousand, which were redeemed from the earth.
And they
sang a new song before the throne and before the four living creatures and the elders. And no one could learn the song except the 144,000 who had been redeemed from the
earth.
And I saw another angel fly in the midst of heaven, having the
everlasting gospel to
preach unto them that dwell on the
earth, and to every nation, and kindred, and tongue, and people,
Then I saw another angel flying overhead, with the eternal gospel to
proclaim to those who dwell on the
earth—to every nation and tribe and tongue and people.
Saying with a loud voice, Fear God, and give glory to him; for the hour of his judgment is come: and worship him that made heaven, and earth, and the sea, and the fountains of waters.
And he said in a loud voice, “Fear God and give Him glory, because the hour of His judgment has come. Worship the One who made the heavens and the earth and the sea and the springs of waters.”
And another angel came out of the temple, crying with a loud voice to him that sat on the cloud, Thrust in thy
sickle, and
reap: for the time is come for thee to
reap; for the harvest of the
earth is ripe.
Then another angel came out of the temple, crying out in a loud voice to the One seated on the cloud, “
Swing Your
sickle and
reap, because the time has come to harvest; for the crop of the
earth is ripe.”
And he that sat on the cloud thrust in his
sickle on the
earth; and the
earth was
reaped.
So the One seated on the cloud
swung His
sickle over the
earth, and the
earth was harvested.
And another angel came out from the altar, which had power over fire; and
cried with a loud cry to him that had the sharp
sickle, saying, Thrust in thy sharp
sickle, and gather the clusters of the vine of the
earth; for her grapes are fully ripe.
Still another angel, with authority over the fire, came from the altar and called out in a loud voice to the angel with the sharp
sickle, “
Swing your sharp
sickle and gather the clusters of grapes from the vine of the
earth, because its grapes are ripe.”
And the angel thrust in his
sickle into the
earth, and gathered the vine of the
earth, and cast it into the great winepress of the wrath of God.
So the angel
swung his
sickle over the
earth and gathered the grapes of the
earth, and he threw them into the great winepress of God’s wrath.
And I heard a great voice out of the temple saying to the seven angels, Go your ways, and pour out the vials of the wrath of God upon the earth.
Then I heard a loud voice from the temple saying to the seven angels, “Go, pour out on the
earth the seven
bowls of God’s wrath.”
And the first went, and poured out his
vial upon the
earth; and there fell a
noisome and
grievous sore upon the men which had the mark of the beast, and upon them which worshipped his image.
So the first angel went and poured out his
bowl on the
earth, and
loathsome,
malignant sores broke out on those who had the mark of the beast and worshiped its image.
For they are the spirits of devils, working miracles, which go forth unto the kings of the
earth and of the whole world, to gather them to the battle of that great day of God
Almighty.
These are
demonic spirits that perform signs and go out to all the kings of the
earth, to
assemble them for battle on the great day of God the
Almighty.
And there were voices, and thunders, and lightnings; and there was a great
earthquake, such as was not since men were upon the
earth, so mighty an
earthquake, and so great.
And there were
flashes of
lightning, and rumblings, and peals of
thunder, and a great
earthquake the likes of which had not occurred since men were upon the
earth—so mighty was the great
quake.
With whom the kings of the
earth have committed
fornication, and the inhabitants of the
earth have been made
drunk with the wine of her
fornication.
The kings of the
earth were immoral with her, and those who dwell on the
earth were
intoxicated with the wine of her immorality.”
And upon her
forehead was a name written,
MYSTERY, BABYLON THE GREAT, THE MOTHER OF HARLOTS AND ABOMINATIONS OF THE
EARTH.
And on her
forehead a
mysterious name was written: BABYLON THE GREAT, THE MOTHER OF PROSTITUTES AND OF THE ABOMINATIONS OF THE
EARTH.
The beast that thou sawest was, and is not; and shall
ascend out of the bottomless pit, and go into
perdition: and they that dwell on the
earth shall wonder, whose names were not written in the book of life from the foundation of the world, when they behold the beast that was, and is not, and yet is.
The beast that you saw—it was, and now is no more, but is about to come up out of the
Abyss and go to its destruction. And those who dwell on the
earth whose names were not written in the Book of Life from the foundation of the world will
marvel when they see the beast that was, and is not, and yet will be.
And the woman which thou sawest is that great city, which reigneth over the kings of the earth.
And the woman you saw is the great city that rules over the kings of the earth.”
And after these things I saw another angel come down from heaven, having great power; and the
earth was
lightened with his glory.
After this I saw another angel descending from heaven with great authority, and the
earth was
illuminated by his glory.
For all nations have
drunk of the wine of the wrath of her
fornication, and the kings of the
earth have committed
fornication with her, and the merchants of the
earth are waxed rich through the abundance of her
delicacies.
All the nations have
drunk the wine of the passion of her immorality. The kings of the
earth were immoral with her, and the merchants of the
earth have grown wealthy from the
extravagance of her
luxury.”
And the kings of the
earth, who have committed
fornication and lived
deliciously with her, shall
bewail her, and
lament for her, when they shall see the smoke of her burning,
Then the kings of the
earth who committed sexual immorality and lived in
luxury with her will
weep and
wail at the sight of the smoke rising from the fire that consumes her.
And the merchants of the
earth shall
weep and
mourn over her; for no man buyeth their
merchandise any more:
And the merchants of the
earth will
weep and
mourn over her, because there is no one left to
buy their
cargo—
And the light of a
candle shall
shine no more at all in thee; and the voice of the
bridegroom and of the
bride shall be heard no more at all in thee: for thy merchants were the great men of the
earth; for by thy
sorceries were all nations
deceived.
The light of a lamp will never
shine in you again, and the voices of a
bride and
bridegroom will never call out in you again. For your merchants were the great ones of the
earth, because all the nations were
deceived by your
sorcery.”
And in her was found the blood of prophets, and of saints, and of all that were slain upon the earth.
And there was found in her the blood of prophets and saints, and of all who had been slain on the earth.
For true and righteous are his judgments: for he hath judged the great
whore, which did corrupt the
earth with her
fornication, and hath
avenged the blood of his servants at her hand.
For His judgments are true and just. He has judged the great
prostitute who corrupted the
earth with her immorality. He has
avenged the blood of His servants that was poured out by her hand.”
And I saw the beast, and the kings of the earth, and their armies, gathered together to make war against him that sat on the horse, and against his army.
Then I saw the beast and the kings of the
earth with their armies assembled to
wage war against the One seated on the horse, and against His army.
And shall go out to
deceive the nations which are in the four quarters of the
earth,
Gog and
Magog, to gather them together to battle: the number of whom is as the sand of the sea.
and will go out to
deceive the nations in the four corners of the
earth—
Gog and
Magog—to
assemble them for battle. Their number is like the sand of the
seashore.
And they went up on the breadth of the
earth, and compassed the camp of the saints about, and the beloved city: and fire came down from God out of heaven, and
devoured them.
And they marched across the broad
expanse of the
earth and surrounded the camp of the saints and the beloved city. But fire came down from heaven and consumed them.
And I saw a great white throne, and him that sat on it, from whose face the earth and the heaven fled away; and there was found no place for them.
Then I saw a great white throne and the One seated on it. Earth and heaven fled from His presence, and no place was found for them.
And I saw a new heaven and a new earth: for the first heaven and the first earth were passed away; and there was no more sea.
Then I saw a new heaven and a new earth, for the first heaven and earth had passed away, and the sea was no more.
And the nations of them which are saved shall walk in the light of it: and the kings of the earth do bring their glory and honour into it.
By its light the nations will walk, and into it the kings of the earth will bring their glory.
O ye men, are not women strong? great is the earth, high is the heaven, swift is the sun in his course, for he compasseth the heavens round about, and fetcheth his course again to his own place in one day.
All the
earth crieth upon the truth, and the heaven blesseth it: all works
shake and
tremble at it, and with it is no unrighteous thing.
So they gave us this answer, We are the servants of the Lord which made heaven and earth.
And for our sins and our fathers’ we with our brethren and our kings and our priests were given up unto the kings of the earth, to the sword, and to captivity, and for a prey with shame, unto this day.
Let them be scattered abroad among the heathen, let their names be put out of the
earth: for they have
despised my covenant.
Take heaven and earth to witness; for I have broken the evil in pieces, and created the good: for I live, saith the Lord.
Remember thy children that sleep, for I shall bring them out of the sides of the
earth, and
shew mercy unto them: for I am
merciful, saith the Lord
Almighty.
O Lord, who bearest rule, thou spakest at the beginning, when thou
didst plant the
earth, and that
thyself alone, and commandedst the people,
And thou leadest him into
paradise, which thy right hand had planted, before ever the
earth came forward.
And it happened, that when they that dwelt upon the
earth began to multiply, and had
gotten them many children, and were a great people, they began again to be more ungodly than the first.
And bowing the heavens, thou
didst set fast the
earth, movedst the whole world, and madest the depths to
tremble, and troubledst the men of that age.
And thy glory went through four gates, of fire, and of
earthquake, and of wind, and of cold; that thou mightest give the law unto the seed of Jacob, and
diligence unto the generation of Israel.
Or when was it that they which dwell upon the
earth have not
sinned in thy sight? or what people have so kept thy commandments?
For like as the ground is given unto the wood, and the sea to his floods: even so they that dwell upon the earth may understand nothing but that which is upon the earth: and he that dwelleth above the heavens may only understand the things that are above the height of the heavens.
And for our sakes
peradventure it is that the floors of the righteous are not filled, because of the sins of them that dwell upon the
earth.
Nevertheless as coming the
tokens, behold, the days shall come, that they which dwell upon
earth shall be taken in a great number, and the way of truth shall be hidden, and the land shall be barren of faith.
And even he shall rule, whom they look not for that dwell upon the earth, and the fowls shall take their flight away together:
And shall be sought of many, and yet not be found: then shall unrighteousness and
incontinency be multiplied upon
earth.
And said, O Lord that bearest rule, of every wood of the earth, and of all the trees thereof, thou hast chosen thee one only vine:
Then said he unto me, Even so have I given the
womb of the
earth to those that be sown in it in their times.
