eat with a ruler, consider
diligently what is before thee:

dine with a ruler, consider carefully what is set before you,

dainty meats:
For as he thinketh in his heart, so is he: Eat and drink, saith he to thee; but his heart is not with thee.

morsel which thou hast
eaten shalt thou

pluck it out and young vultures
devour it.

There is nothing better for a man, than that he should eat and drink, and that he should make his soul enjoy good in his labour. This also I saw, that it was from the hand of God.
Nothing is better for a man than to eat and drink and enjoy his work. I have also seen that this is from the hand of God.
For apart from Him, who can eat and who can find enjoyment?
And also that every man should eat and drink, and enjoy the good of all his labour, it is the gift of God.
and also that every man should eat and drink and find satisfaction in all his labor—this is the gift of God.
The
fool foldeth his hands together, and

When goods increase, they are increased that eat them: and what good is there to the owners thereof, saving the beholding of them with their eyes?

The sleep of a labouring man is sweet, whether he eat little or much: but the abundance of the rich will not suffer him to sleep.

All his days also he eateth in darkness, and he hath much sorrow and wrath with his sickness.
Moreover, all his days he eats in darkness, with much sorrow, sickness, and anger.
Behold that which I have seen: it is good and comely for one to eat and to drink, and to enjoy the good of all his labour that he taketh under the sun all the days of his life, which God giveth him: for it is his portion.
Here is what I have seen to be good and fitting: to eat and drink, and to find satisfaction in all the labor one does under the sun during the few days of life that God has given him—for this is his lot.
Every man also to whom God hath given riches and wealth, and hath given him power to
eat thereof, and to take his portion, and to
rejoice in his labour; this is the gift of God.
Furthermore, God has given riches and wealth to every man, and He has enabled him to enjoy them, to accept his lot, and to
rejoice in his labor. This is a gift from God.
A man to whom God hath given riches, wealth, and honour, so that he wanteth nothing for his soul of all that he desireth, yet God giveth him not power to eat thereof, but a stranger eateth it: this is vanity, and it is an evil disease.
God gives a man riches, wealth, and honor, so that he lacks nothing his heart desires; but God does not allow him to enjoy them. Instead, a stranger will enjoy them. This is
futile and a
grievous affliction.
Then I
commended mirth, because a man hath no better thing under the sun, than to
eat, and to drink, and to be
merry: for that shall
abide with him of his labour the days of his life, which God giveth him under the sun.
So I
commended the enjoyment of life, because there is nothing better for a man under the sun than to
eat and drink and be
merry. For this joy will
accompany him in his labor during the days of his life that God gives him under the sun.
Go thy way,
eat thy bread with joy, and drink thy wine with a
merry heart; for God now accepteth thy works.
Go,
eat your bread with joy, and drink your wine with a
cheerful heart, for God has already approved your works:
Woe to thee, O land, when thy king is a child, and thy princes
eat in the morning!
Woe to you, O land whose king is a youth, and whose princes feast in the morning.
Blessed art thou, O land, when thy king is the son of nobles, and thy princes
eat in due season, for strength, and not for
drunkenness!
Blessed are you, O land whose king is a son of nobles, and whose princes feast at the proper time— for strength and not for
drunkenness.
Awake, O north wind; and come, thou south; blow upon my garden, that the spices thereof may flow out. Let my beloved come into his garden, and
eat his pleasant fruits.
Awake, O north wind, and come, O south wind.
Breathe on my garden and spread the
fragrance of its spices. Let my beloved come into his garden and taste its choicest fruits.
I am come into my garden, my sister, my
spouse: I have gathered my
myrrh with my
spice; I have
eaten my
honeycomb with my honey; I have
drunk my wine with my milk:
eat, O friends; drink,
yea, drink abundantly, O beloved.
I have come to my garden, my sister, my
bride; I have gathered my
myrrh with my
spice. I have
eaten my
honeycomb with my honey; I have
drunk my wine with my milk.
Eat, O friends, and drink; drink freely, O beloved.

vineyard; the
plunder of the poor is in your houses.
And in that day seven women shall take hold of one man, saying, We will
eat our own bread, and wear our own
apparel: only let us be called by thy name, to take away our reproach.
In that day seven women will take hold of one man and say, “We will eat our own bread and provide our own clothes. Just let us be called by your name. Take away our disgrace!”
And now go to; I will tell you what I will do to my
vineyard: I will take away the
hedge thereof, and it shall be
eaten up; and break down the wall thereof, and it shall be
trodden down:
Now I will tell you what I am about to do to My
vineyard: I will take away its
hedge, and it will be consumed; I will
tear down its wall, and it will be
trampled.
Then shall the lambs feed after their manner, and the waste places of the fat ones shall strangers eat.
Lambs will
graze as in their own pastures, and strangers will feed in the ruins of the wealthy.
But yet in it shall be a tenth, and it shall return, and shall be
eaten: as a
teil tree, and as an oak, whose substance is in them, when they cast their leaves: so the holy seed shall be the substance thereof.
And though a tenth remains in the land, it will be burned again. As the
terebinth and oak leave stumps when felled, so the holy seed will be a
stump in the land.”
Butter and honey shall he eat, that he may know to refuse the evil, and choose the good.

reject evil and choose good, He will be
eating curds and honey.

and from the abundance of milk they give, he will eat curds; for all who remain in the land will eat curds and honey.
And he shall
snatch on the right hand, and be
hungry; and he shall
eat on the left hand, and they shall not be satisfied: they shall
eat every man the flesh of his own arm:
They
carve out what is on the right, but they are still
hungry; they
eat what is on the left, but they are still not satisfied. Each one devours the flesh of his own offspring.
And the cow and the bear shall feed; their young ones shall lie down together: and the lion shall eat straw like the ox.
The cow will
graze with the bear, their young will lie down together, and the lion will
eat straw like the ox.
Prepare the table, watch in the
watchtower,
eat, drink: arise, ye princes, and
anoint the shield.
They prepare a table, they lay out a
carpet, they
eat, they drink! Rise up, O princes, oil the shields!
And behold joy and
gladness,
slaying oxen, and killing sheep,
eating flesh, and drinking wine: let us
eat and drink; for to
morrow we shall die.
But look, there is joy and
gladness,
butchering of cattle and slaughtering of sheep,
eating of meat and drinking of wine: “Let us
eat and drink, for
tomorrow we die!”

And the glorious beauty, which is on the head of the fat valley, shall be a
fading flower, and as the
hasty fruit before the summer; which when he that looketh upon it
seeth, while it is yet in his hand he
eateth it up.
The
fading flower of his beautiful
splendor, set on the summit above the fertile valley, will be like a ripe fig before the summer harvest:
Whoever sees it will take it in his hand and
swallow it.
It shall even be as when an
hungry man dreameth, and, behold, he
eateth; but he awaketh, and his soul is empty: or as when a
thirsty man dreameth, and, behold, he drinketh; but he awaketh, and, behold, he is
faint, and his soul hath
appetite: so shall the multitude of all the nations be, that fight against mount
Zion.
as when a
hungry man dreams he is
eating, then awakens still
hungry; as when a
thirsty man dreams he is drinking, then awakens
faint and
parched. So will it be for all the many nations who go to battle against Mount
Zion.
But
Rabshakeh said, Hath my master sent me to thy master and to thee to speak these words? hath he not sent me to the men that sit upon the wall, that they may
eat their own dung, and drink their own
piss with you?
But the
Rabshakeh replied, “Has my master sent me to speak these words only to you and your master, and not to the men sitting on the wall, who are destined with you to
eat their own dung and drink their own
urine?”
Hearken not to
Hezekiah: for thus saith the king of Assyria, Make an agreement with me by a present, and come out to me: and
eat ye every one of his vine, and every one of his fig tree, and drink ye every one the waters of his own
cistern;
Do not
listen to
Hezekiah, for this is what the king of Assyria says: Make peace with me and come out to me. Then every one of you will
eat from his own vine and his own fig tree, and drink water from his own
cistern,
And this shall be a sign unto thee, Ye shall
eat this year such as groweth of itself; and the second year that which springeth of the same: and in the third year
sow ye, and
reap, and plant vineyards, and
eat the fruit thereof.
And this will be a sign to you, O
Hezekiah: This year you will
eat what grows on its own, and in the second year what springs from the same. But in the third year you will
sow and
reap; you will plant vineyards and
eat their fruit.
He burneth part thereof in the fire; with part thereof he
eateth flesh; he roasteth
roast, and is satisfied:
yea, he warmeth himself, and saith,
Aha, I am warm, I have seen the fire:
He burns half of it in the fire, and he roasts meat on that half. He
eats the
roast and is satisfied. Indeed, he warms himself and says, “
Ah! I am warm; I see the fire.”
And none considereth in his heart, neither is there knowledge nor understanding to say, I have burned part of it in the fire;
yea, also I have
baked bread upon the coals thereof; I have
roasted flesh, and
eaten it: and shall I make the residue thereof an
abomination? shall I fall down to the stock of a tree?
And no one considers in his heart, no one has the knowledge or insight to say, “I burned half of it in the fire, and I
baked bread on its coals; I
roasted meat and I
ate. Shall I make something
detestable with the rest of it? Shall I bow down to a block of wood?”
And I will feed them that
oppress thee with their own flesh; and they shall be
drunken with their own blood, as with sweet wine: and all flesh shall know that I the LORD am thy Saviour and thy
Redeemer, the mighty One of Jacob.
I will make your oppressors
eat their own flesh; they will be
drunk on their own blood, as with wine. Then all mankind will know that I, the LORD, am your
Savior and your
Redeemer, the Mighty One of Jacob.”
Behold, the Lord GOD will help me; who is he that shall
condemn me? lo, they all shall wax old as a garment; the
moth shall
eat them up.
Surely the Lord GOD helps Me. Who is there to
condemn Me? See, they will all wear out like a garment; the
moths will
devour them.
For the
moth shall
eat them up like a garment, and the worm shall
eat them like wool: but my righteousness shall be for ever, and my salvation from generation to generation.
For the
moth will
devour them like a garment, and the worm will
eat them like wool. But My righteousness will last
forever, My salvation through all generations.”
Ho, every one that thirsteth, come ye to the waters, and he that hath no money; come ye,
buy, and
eat;
yea, come,
buy wine and milk without money and without price.
“Come, all you who are
thirsty, come to the waters; and you without money, come,
buy, and
eat! Come,
buy wine and milk without money and without cost!
Wherefore do ye
spend money for that which is not bread? and your labour for that which satisfieth not?
hearken diligently unto me, and
eat ye that which is good, and let your soul delight itself in fatness.
Why
spend money on that which is not bread, and your labor on that which does not satisfy?
Listen carefully to Me, and
eat what is good, and your soul will delight in the richest of foods.
For as the rain cometh down, and the snow from heaven, and returneth not thither, but watereth the earth, and maketh it bring forth and
bud, that it may give seed to the
sower, and bread to the
eater:
For just as rain and snow fall from heaven and do not return without watering the earth, making it
bud and
sprout, and providing seed to
sow and food to
eat,
All ye beasts of the field, come to
devour,
yea, all ye beasts in the forest.
Come, all you beasts of the field;
eat greedily, all you beasts of the forest.
But ye shall be named the Priests of the LORD: men shall call you the Ministers of our God: ye shall
eat the riches of the Gentiles, and in their glory shall ye
boast yourselves.
But you will be called the priests of the LORD; they will speak of you as ministers of our God; you will feed on the wealth of nations, and you will
boast in their riches.
But they that have gathered it shall
eat it, and praise the LORD; and they that have brought it together shall drink it in the courts of my
holiness.
For those who harvest grain will eat it and praise the LORD, and those who gather grapes will drink the wine in My holy courts.”
Which remain among the graves, and
lodge in the monuments, which
eat swine’s flesh, and
broth of
abominable things is in their vessels;
Therefore thus saith the Lord GOD, Behold, my servants shall
eat, but ye shall be
hungry: behold, my servants shall drink, but ye shall be
thirsty: behold, my servants shall
rejoice, but ye shall be
ashamed:
Therefore this is what the Lord GOD says: “My servants will
eat, but you will go
hungry; My servants will drink, but you will go
thirsty; My servants will
rejoice, but you will be put to shame.
And they shall build houses, and inhabit them; and they shall plant vineyards, and eat the fruit of them.
They will build houses and dwell in them; they will plant vineyards and eat their fruit.
They shall not build, and another inhabit; they shall not plant, and another
eat: for as the days of a tree are the days of my people, and mine
elect shall long enjoy the work of their hands.
No longer will they build houses for others to inhabit, nor plant for others to eat. For as is the lifetime of a tree, so will be the days of My people, and My chosen ones will fully enjoy the work of their hands.
The wolf and the lamb shall feed together, and the lion shall
eat straw like the
bullock: and dust shall be the serpent’s meat. They shall not
hurt nor destroy in all my holy mountain, saith the LORD.
The wolf and the lamb will feed together, and the lion will
eat straw like the ox, but the food of the serpent will be dust. They will neither
harm nor destroy on all My holy mountain,” says the LORD.
They that
sanctify themselves, and
purify themselves in the gardens behind one tree in the midst,
eating swine’s flesh, and the
abomination, and the
mouse, shall be consumed together, saith the LORD.
“Those who
consecrate and
purify themselves to enter the groves—to follow one in the center of those who
eat the flesh of
swine and
vermin and rats—will perish together,” declares the LORD.
I brought you into a fertile land to
eat its fruit and
bounty, but you came and
defiled My land, and made My inheritance
detestable.
And they shall
eat up thine harvest, and thy bread, which thy sons and thy daughters should
eat: they shall
eat up thy flocks and thine herds: they shall
eat up thy vines and thy fig trees: they shall
impoverish thy
fenced cities, wherein thou trustedst, with the sword.
They will
devour your harvest and food; they will
consume your sons and daughters; they will
eat up your flocks and herds; they will feed on your vines and fig trees. With the sword they will destroy the fortified cities in which you trust.”
Thus saith the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel; Put your burnt offerings unto your sacrifices, and eat flesh.
This is what the LORD of Hosts, the God of Israel, says: Add your burnt offerings to your other sacrifices and
eat the meat
yourselves!
Pour out thy
fury upon the heathen that know thee not, and upon the families that call not on thy name: for they have
eaten up Jacob, and
devoured him, and consumed him, and have made his
habitation desolate.
Pour out Your wrath on the nations that do not acknowledge You, and on the families that do not call on Your name. For they have
devoured Jacob; they have consumed him and finished him off; they have
devastated his homeland.
Thy words were found, and I did
eat them; and thy word was unto me the joy and
rejoicing of mine heart: for I am called by thy name, O LORD God of hosts.
Your words were found, and I
ate them. Your words became my joy and my heart’s delight. For I bear Your name, O LORD God of Hosts.
Thou shalt not also go into the house of feasting, to sit with them to eat and to drink.
You must not enter a house where there is feasting and sit down with them to eat and drink.
