And he said to David, Thou art more righteous than I: for thou hast rewarded me good, whereas I have rewarded thee evil.
and said to David, “You are more righteous than I, for you have rewarded me with good, though I have rewarded you with evil.
Now the name of the man was Nabal; and the name of his wife
Abigail: and she was a woman of good understanding, and of a beautiful countenance: but the man was
churlish and
evil in his doings; and he was of the house of
Caleb.
His name was Nabal, and his wife’s name was
Abigail. She was an intelligent and beautiful woman, but her husband, a Calebite, was harsh and
evil in his dealings.
Now therefore know and consider what thou
wilt do; for
evil is determined against our master, and against all his household: for he is such a son of
Belial, that a man cannot speak to him.
Now consider carefully what you must do, because
disaster looms over our master and all his household. For he is such a
scoundrel that
nobody can speak to him!”
Now David had said, Surely in vain have I kept all that this fellow hath in the wilderness, so that nothing was missed of all that
pertained unto him: and he hath requited me
evil for good.
Now David had just finished saying, “In vain I have protected all that belonged to this man in the wilderness. Nothing that belongs to him has gone missing, yet he has paid me back evil for good.
Now therefore, my lord, as the LORD liveth, and as thy soul liveth, seeing the LORD hath
withholden thee from coming to shed blood, and from
avenging thyself with thine own hand, now let thine enemies, and they that seek
evil to my lord, be as Nabal.
Now, my lord, as surely as the LORD lives and you
yourself live, the LORD has held you back from coming to
bloodshed and
avenging yourself with your own hand. May your enemies and those who seek
harm for my lord be like Nabal.
I pray thee,
forgive the
trespass of thine
handmaid: for the LORD will certainly make my lord a sure house; because my lord fighteth the battles of the LORD, and
evil hath not been found in thee all thy days.
Please
forgive your servant’s
offense, for the LORD will surely make a lasting dynasty for my lord, because he fights the LORD’s battles. May no
evil be found in you as long as you live.
And when David heard that Nabal was dead, he said, Blessed be the LORD, that hath
pleaded the cause of my reproach from the hand of Nabal, and hath kept his servant from
evil: for the LORD hath returned the wickedness of Nabal upon his own head. And David sent and communed with
Abigail, to take her to him to wife.
On hearing that Nabal was dead, David said, “Blessed be the LORD, who has
upheld my cause against the reproach of Nabal and has restrained His servant from
evil. For the LORD has brought the wickedness of Nabal down upon his own head.” Then David sent word to
Abigail, asking for her in marriage.
And he said, Wherefore
doth my lord thus pursue after his servant? for what have I done? or what
evil is in mine hand?
And he continued, “Why is my lord pursuing his servant? What have I done? What evil is in my hand?
Then Achish called David, and said unto him, Surely, as the LORD liveth, thou hast been upright, and thy going out and thy coming in with me in the host is good in my sight: for I have not found evil in thee since the day of thy coming unto me unto this day: nevertheless the lords favour thee not.
So Achish summoned David and told him, “As surely as the LORD lives, you have been upright in my sight, and it seems right that you should march in and out with me in the army, because I have found no fault in you from the day you came to me until this day. But you have no favor in the sight of the leaders.
And I am this day weak, though
anointed king; and these men the sons of Zeruiah be too hard for me: the LORD shall reward the
doer of
evil according to his wickedness.
And I am weak this day, though
anointed as king, and these men, the sons of Zeruiah, are too fierce for me. May the LORD repay the
evildoer according to his
evil!”
And when the
mourning was past, David sent and
fetched her to his house, and she became his wife, and bare him a son. But the thing that David had done displeased the LORD.
And when the time of
mourning was over, David had her brought to his house, and she became his wife and bore him a son. But the thing that David had done was
evil in the sight of the LORD.
Wherefore hast thou
despised the commandment of the LORD, to do
evil in his sight? thou hast killed Uriah the Hittite with the sword, and hast taken his wife to be thy wife, and hast slain him with the sword of the children of
Ammon.
Why then have you
despised the command of the LORD by doing
evil in His sight? You put Uriah the Hittite to the sword and took his wife as your own, for you have slain him with the sword of the
Ammonites.
Thus saith the LORD, Behold, I will raise up evil against thee out of thine own house, and I will take thy wives before thine eyes, and give them unto thy neighbour, and he shall lie with thy wives in the sight of this sun.
This is what the LORD says: ‘I will raise up
adversity against you from your own house. Before your very eyes I will take your wives and give them to another, and he will lie with them in broad
daylight.
And she said unto him, There is no cause: this
evil in sending me away is greater than the other that thou
didst unto me. But he would not
hearken unto her.
“No,” she replied, “sending me away is worse than this great wrong you have already done to me!” But he refused to
listen to her.
Then thine
handmaid said, The word of my lord the king shall now be comfortable: for as an angel of God, so is my lord the king to
discern good and bad: therefore the LORD thy God will be with thee.
And now your servant says, ‘May the word of my lord the king bring me rest, for my lord the king is able to
discern good and
evil, just like the angel of God. May the LORD your God be with you.’”
And David said unto all his servants that were with him at Jerusalem, Arise, and let us
flee; for we shall not else escape from
Absalom: make speed to depart, lest he overtake us suddenly, and bring
evil upon us, and
smite the city with the edge of the sword.
And David said to all the servants with him in Jerusalem, “Arise and let us
flee, or we will not escape from
Absalom! We must leave quickly, or he will soon overtake us,
heap disaster on us, and put the city to the sword.”
And
Absalom and all the men of Israel said, The counsel of Hushai the Archite is better than the counsel of
Ahithophel. For the LORD had appointed to defeat the good counsel of
Ahithophel, to the intent that the LORD might bring
evil upon
Absalom.
Now therefore arise, go forth, and speak
comfortably unto thy servants: for I
swear by the LORD, if thou go not forth, there will not
tarry one with thee this night: and that will be worse unto thee than all the
evil that
befell thee from thy youth until now.
Now therefore get up! Go out and speak comfort to your servants, for I
swear by the LORD that if you do not go out, not a man will remain with you
tonight. This will be worse for you than all the
adversity that has
befallen you from your youth until now!”
I am this day
fourscore years old: and can I
discern between good and
evil? can thy servant taste what I eat or what I drink? can I hear any more the voice of singing men and singing women? wherefore then should thy servant be yet a burden unto my lord the king?
I am now eighty years old. Can I
discern what is good and what is not? Can your servant taste what he eats or drinks? Can I still hear the voice of singing men and women? Why should your servant be an added burden to my lord the king?
And when the angel stretched out his hand upon Jerusalem to destroy it, the LORD
repented him of the
evil, and said to the angel that destroyed the people, It is enough: stay now thine hand. And the angel of the LORD was by the threshingplace of Araunah the Jebusite.
But when the angel stretched out his hand to destroy Jerusalem, the LORD relented from the
calamity and said to the angel who was destroying the people, “Enough! Withdraw your hand now!” At that time the angel of the LORD was by the
threshing floor of Araunah the Jebusite.
And Solomon said, If he will
shew himself a worthy man, there shall not an hair of him fall to the earth: but if wickedness shall be found in him, he shall die.
And Solomon replied, “If he is a man of character, not a single hair of his will fall to the ground. But if evil is found in him, he will die.”
The king said moreover to Shimei, Thou knowest all the wickedness which thine heart is privy to, that thou
didst to David my father: therefore the LORD shall return thy wickedness upon thine own head;
The king also said, “You know in your heart all the evil that you did to my father David. Therefore the LORD will bring your evil back upon your head.
Give therefore thy servant an understanding heart to judge thy people, that I may
discern between good and bad: for who is able to judge this thy so great a people?
Therefore give Your servant an understanding heart to judge Your people and to
discern between good and
evil. For who is able to
govern this great people of Yours?”
But now the LORD my God hath given me rest on every side, so that there is neither
adversary nor
evil occurrent.
But now the LORD my God has given me rest on every side, and there is no
adversary or
crisis.
And they shall answer, Because they
forsook the LORD their God, who brought forth their fathers out of the land of Egypt, and have taken hold upon other gods, and have worshipped them, and served them: therefore hath the LORD brought upon them all this
evil.
And others will answer, ‘Because they have
forsaken the LORD their God who brought their fathers out of the land of Egypt, and have embraced other gods, worshiping and serving them—because of this, the LORD has brought all this
disaster upon them.’”
And Solomon did evil in the sight of the LORD, and went not fully after the LORD, as did David his father.
So Solomon did evil in the sight of the LORD; unlike his father David, he did not follow the LORD completely.
After this thing
Jeroboam returned not from his
evil way, but made again of the lowest of the people priests of the high places:
whosoever would, he consecrated him, and he became one of the priests of the high places.
Even after these events,
Jeroboam did not
repent of his
evil ways, but again he appointed priests for the high places from every class of people. He ordained
anyone who desired to be a priest of the high places.
But hast done
evil above all that were before thee: for thou hast gone and made thee other gods, and
molten images, to
provoke me to anger, and hast cast me behind thy back:
You have done more
evil than all who came before you. You have proceeded to make for
yourself other gods and
molten images to
provoke Me, and you have
flung Me behind your back.
Therefore, behold, I will bring
evil upon the house of
Jeroboam, and will cut off from
Jeroboam him that pisseth against the wall, and him that is shut up and left in Israel, and will take away the
remnant of the house of
Jeroboam, as a man taketh away dung, till it be all gone.
Because of all this, behold, I am bringing
disaster on the house of
Jeroboam: I will cut off from
Jeroboam every male, both slave and free, in Israel; I will burn up the house of
Jeroboam as one burns up dung until it is gone!
And Judah did
evil in the sight of the LORD, and they
provoked him to jealousy with their sins which they had committed, above all that their fathers had done.
And Judah did
evil in the sight of the LORD, and by the sins they committed they
provoked Him to
jealous anger more than all their fathers had done.
And he did
evil in the sight of the LORD, and walked in the way of his father, and in his sin
wherewith he made Israel to sin.
And he did evil in the sight of the LORD and walked in the way of his father and in his sin, which he had caused Israel to commit.
And he did
evil in the sight of the LORD, and walked in the way of
Jeroboam, and in his sin
wherewith he made Israel to sin.
And
Baasha did
evil in the sight of the LORD and walked in the way of
Jeroboam and in his sin, which he had caused Israel to commit.
And also by the hand of the prophet
Jehu the son of Hanani came the word of the LORD against
Baasha, and against his house, even for all the
evil that he did in the sight of the LORD, in
provoking him to anger with the work of his hands, in being like the house of
Jeroboam; and because he killed him.
Moreover, the word of the LORD came through the prophet
Jehu son of Hanani against
Baasha and his house, because of all the
evil he had done in the sight of the LORD,
provoking Him to anger with the work of his hands and becoming like the house of
Jeroboam, and also because
Baasha had struck down the house of
Jeroboam.
For his sins which he
sinned in doing
evil in the sight of the LORD, in walking in the way of
Jeroboam, and in his sin which he did, to make Israel to sin.
because of the sins he had committed, doing
evil in the sight of the LORD and following the example of
Jeroboam and the sin he had committed and had caused Israel to commit.
But Omri wrought evil in the eyes of the LORD, and did worse than all that were before him.
But Omri did evil in the sight of the LORD and acted more wickedly than all who were before him.
And
Ahab the son of Omri did
evil in the sight of the LORD above all that were before him.
However,
Ahab son of Omri did
evil in the sight of the LORD, more than all who were before him.
And he
cried unto the LORD, and said, O LORD my God, hast thou also brought
evil upon the widow with whom I
sojourn, by
slaying her son?
Then he
cried out to the LORD, “O LORD my God, have You also brought tragedy on this widow who has opened her home to me, by causing her son to die?”
And
Ahab said to
Elijah, Hast thou found me, O mine enemy? And he answered, I have found thee: because thou hast sold
thyself to work
evil in the sight of the LORD.
When
Elijah arrived,
Ahab said to him, “So you have found me out, my enemy.” He replied, “I have found you out because you have sold
yourself to do
evil in the sight of the LORD.
Behold, I will bring
evil upon thee, and will take away thy
posterity, and will cut off from
Ahab him that pisseth against the wall, and him that is shut up and left in Israel,
This is what the LORD says: ‘I will bring
calamity on you and
consume your descendants; I will cut off from
Ahab every male in Israel, both slave and free.
But there was none like unto
Ahab, which did sell himself to work wickedness in the sight of the LORD, whom
Jezebel his wife
stirred up.
(Surely there was never one like
Ahab, who sold himself to do
evil in the sight of the LORD, incited by his wife
Jezebel.
Seest thou how
Ahab humbleth himself before me? because he humbleth himself before me, I will not bring the
evil in his days: but in his son’s days will I bring the
evil upon his house.
“Have you seen how
Ahab has humbled himself before Me? Because he has humbled himself before Me, I will not bring the
calamity during his days, but I will bring it upon his house in the days of his son.”
And the king of Israel said unto
Jehoshaphat, There is yet one man, Micaiah the son of Imlah, by whom we may
enquire of the LORD: but I
hate him; for he
doth not
prophesy good concerning me, but
evil. And
Jehoshaphat said, Let not the king say so.
The king of Israel answered, “There is still one man who can ask the LORD, but I
hate him because he never prophesies anything good for me, but only bad. He is Micaiah son of Imlah.” “The king should not say that!”
Jehoshaphat replied.
And the king of Israel said unto
Jehoshaphat, Did I not tell thee that he would
prophesy no good concerning me, but
evil?
Then the king of Israel said to
Jehoshaphat, “Did I not tell you that he never prophesies good for me, but only bad?”
Now therefore, behold, the LORD hath put a lying spirit in the mouth of all these thy prophets, and the LORD hath spoken evil concerning thee.
So you see, the LORD has put a lying spirit in the mouths of all these prophets of yours, and the LORD has pronounced
disaster against you.”
And he did
evil in the sight of the LORD, and walked in the way of his father, and in the way of his mother, and in the way of
Jeroboam the son of Nebat, who made Israel to sin:
And he did
evil in the sight of the LORD and walked in the ways of his father and mother and of
Jeroboam son of Nebat, who had caused Israel to sin.
And he wrought
evil in the sight of the LORD; but not like his father, and like his mother: for he put away the image of
Baal that his father had made.
And he did
evil in the sight of the LORD, but not as his father and mother had done. He removed the sacred
pillar of
Baal that his father had made.
And while he yet talked with them, behold, the
messenger came down unto him: and he said, Behold, this
evil is of the LORD; what should I wait for the LORD any longer?
While
Elisha was still speaking with them, the
messenger came down to him. And the king said, “This
calamity is from the LORD. Why should I wait for the LORD any longer?”
And
Hazael said, Why weepeth my lord? And he answered, Because I know the
evil that thou
wilt do unto the children of Israel: their strong holds
wilt thou set on fire, and their young men
wilt thou
slay with the sword, and
wilt dash their children, and
rip up their women with child.
“Why is my lord
weeping?” asked
Hazael. “Because I know the
evil you will do to the Israelites,”
Elisha replied. “You will set fire to their fortresses, kill their young men with the sword,
dash their little ones to pieces, and
rip open their
pregnant women.”
And he walked in the way of the kings of Israel, as did the house of
Ahab: for the daughter of
Ahab was his wife: and he did
evil in the sight of the LORD.
And Jehoram walked in the ways of the kings of Israel, just as the house of
Ahab had done. For he married a daughter of
Ahab and did
evil in the sight of the LORD.
And he walked in the way of the house of
Ahab, and did
evil in the sight of the LORD, as did the house of
Ahab: for he was the son in law of the house of
Ahab.
And
Ahaziah walked in the ways of the house of
Ahab and did
evil in the sight of the LORD like the house of
Ahab, for he was a son-in-law of the house of
Ahab.
And he did that which was
evil in the sight of the LORD, and followed the sins of
Jeroboam the son of Nebat, which made Israel to sin; he departed not
therefrom.
And he did
evil in the sight of the LORD and followed the sins that
Jeroboam son of Nebat had caused Israel to commit; he did not turn away from them.
And he did that which was
evil in the sight of the LORD; he departed not from all the sins of
Jeroboam the son of Nebat, who made Israel sin: but he walked therein.
And he did
evil in the sight of the LORD and did not turn away from all the sins that
Jeroboam son of Nebat had caused Israel to commit, but he walked in them.
And he did that which was
evil in the sight of the LORD: he departed not from all the sins of
Jeroboam the son of Nebat, who made Israel to sin.
And he did
evil in the sight of the LORD and did not turn away from all the sins that
Jeroboam son of Nebat had caused Israel to commit.
And he did that which was
evil in the sight of the LORD, as his fathers had done: he departed not from the sins of
Jeroboam the son of Nebat, who made Israel to sin.
And he did
evil in the sight of the LORD, as his fathers had done. He did not turn away from the sins that
Jeroboam son of Nebat had caused Israel to commit.
And he did that which was
evil in the sight of the LORD: he departed not all his days from the sins of
Jeroboam the son of Nebat, who made Israel to sin.
And he did
evil in the sight of the LORD, and throughout his reign he did not turn away from the sins that
Jeroboam son of Nebat had caused Israel to commit.
And he did that which was
evil in the sight of the LORD: he departed not from the sins of
Jeroboam the son of Nebat, who made Israel to sin.
And he did
evil in the sight of the LORD and did not turn away from the sins that
Jeroboam son of Nebat had caused Israel to commit.
And he did that which was
evil in the sight of the LORD: he departed not from the sins of
Jeroboam the son of Nebat, who made Israel to sin.
And he did
evil in the sight of the LORD and did not turn away from the sins that
Jeroboam son of Nebat had caused Israel to commit.
And he did that which was evil in the sight of the LORD, but not as the kings of Israel that were before him.
And he did evil in the sight of the LORD, but not like the kings of Israel who preceded him.
Yet the LORD
testified against Israel, and against Judah, by all the prophets, and by all the seers, saying, Turn ye from your
evil ways, and keep my commandments and my statutes, according to all the law which I commanded your fathers, and which I sent to you by my servants the prophets.
Yet through all His prophets and seers, the LORD
warned Israel and Judah, saying, “Turn from your wicked ways and keep My commandments and statutes, according to the entire Law that I commanded your fathers and delivered to you through My servants the prophets.”
And they caused their sons and their daughters to pass through the fire, and used
divination and enchantments, and sold themselves to do
evil in the sight of the LORD, to
provoke him to anger.
They sacrificed their sons and daughters in the fire and practiced
divination and
soothsaying. They devoted themselves to doing
evil in the sight of the LORD,
provoking Him to anger.
And he did that which was evil in the sight of the LORD, after the abominations of the heathen, whom the LORD cast out before the children of Israel.
And he did evil in the sight of the LORD by following the abominations of the nations that the LORD had driven out before the Israelites.
And he made his son pass through the fire, and observed times, and used enchantments, and dealt with familiar spirits and wizards: he wrought much wickedness in the sight of the LORD, to
provoke him to anger.
He sacrificed his own son in the fire, practiced
sorcery and
divination, and consulted mediums and spiritists. He did great
evil in the sight of the LORD,
provoking Him to anger.
But they
hearkened not: and
Manasseh seduced them to do more
evil than did the nations whom the LORD destroyed before the children of Israel.
But the people did not
listen and
Manasseh led them
astray, so that they did greater
evil than the nations that the LORD had destroyed before the Israelites.
Therefore thus saith the LORD God of Israel, Behold, I am bringing such
evil upon Jerusalem and Judah, that
whosoever heareth of it, both his ears shall
tingle.
this is what the LORD, the God of Israel, says: ‘Behold, I am bringing such
calamity upon Jerusalem and Judah that the news will
reverberate in the ears of all who hear it.
Because they have done that which was
evil in my sight, and have
provoked me to anger, since the day their fathers came forth out of Egypt, even unto this day.
because they have done
evil in My sight and have
provoked Me to anger from the day their fathers came out of Egypt until this day.’”
Moreover
Manasseh shed innocent blood very much, till he had filled Jerusalem from one end to another; beside his sin
wherewith he made Judah to sin, in doing that which was
evil in the sight of the LORD.
Moreover,
Manasseh shed so much innocent blood that he filled Jerusalem from end to end, in addition to the sin that he had caused Judah to commit, doing
evil in the sight of the LORD.
And he did that which was
evil in the sight of the LORD, as his father
Manasseh did.
And he did
evil in the sight of the LORD, as his father
Manasseh had done.
Thus saith the LORD, Behold, I will bring evil upon this place, and upon the inhabitants thereof, even all the words of the book which the king of Judah hath read:
that this is what the LORD says: I am about to bring
calamity on this place and on its people, according to all the words of the book that the king of Judah has read,
Behold therefore, I will gather thee unto thy fathers, and thou shalt be gathered into thy grave in peace; and thine eyes shall not see all the evil which I will bring upon this place. And they brought the king word again.
‘Therefore I will indeed gather you to your fathers, and you will be gathered to your grave in peace. Your eyes will not see all the
calamity that I will bring on this place.’” So they brought her answer back to the king.
And he did that which was evil in the sight of the LORD, according to all that his fathers had done.
And he did evil in the sight of the LORD, just as his fathers had done.
And he did that which was evil in the sight of the LORD, according to all that his fathers had done.
And he did evil in the sight of the LORD, just as his fathers had done.
And he did that which was evil in the sight of the LORD, according to all that his father had done.
And he did evil in the sight of the LORD, just as his father had done.
And he did that which was
evil in the sight of the LORD, according to all that
Jehoiakim had done.
And it came to pass in the seven and
thirtieth year of the captivity of
Jehoiachin king of Judah, in the
twelfth month, on the seven and
twentieth day of the month, that
Evil-merodach king of Babylon in the year that he began to reign did lift up the head of
Jehoiachin king of Judah out of prison;
On the twenty-seventh day of the
twelfth month of the thirty-seventh year of the exile of Judah’s King
Jehoiachin, in the year
Evil-merodach became king of Babylon, he released King
Jehoiachin of Judah from prison.
The sons of Judah; Er, and Onan, and Shelah: which three were born unto him of the daughter of Shua the Canaanitess. And Er, the
firstborn of Judah, was
evil in the sight of the LORD; and he
slew him.
The sons of Judah: Er, Onan, and Shelah. These three were born to him by Bath-shua the
Canaanite. Er, Judah’s
firstborn, was wicked in the sight of the LORD, who put him to death.
And Jabez called on the God of Israel, saying, Oh that thou wouldest
bless me indeed, and
enlarge my coast, and that thine hand might be with me, and that thou wouldest keep me from
evil, that it may not
grieve me! And God granted him that which he requested.
And Jabez called out to the God of Israel, “If only You would
bless me and
enlarge my territory! May Your hand be with me and keep me from
harm, so that I will be free from pain.” And God granted the request of Jabez.
And when he went in to his wife, she conceived, and bare a son, and he called his name Beriah, because it went evil with his house.
And again he
slept with his wife, and she conceived and gave birth to a son. So he named him Beriah, because tragedy had come upon his house.
And God was displeased with this thing; therefore he
smote Israel.
This command was also evil in the sight of God; so He struck Israel.
And God sent an angel unto Jerusalem to destroy it: and as he was destroying, the LORD
beheld, and he
repented him of the
evil, and said to the angel that destroyed, It is enough, stay now thine hand. And the angel of the LORD stood by the threshingfloor of Ornan the Jebusite.
Then God sent an angel to destroy Jerusalem, but as the angel was doing so, the LORD saw it and relented from the
calamity, and He said to the angel who was destroying the people, “Enough! Withdraw your hand now!” At that time the angel of the LORD was standing by the
threshing floor of Ornan the Jebusite.
And David said unto God, Is it not I that commanded the people to be numbered? even I it is that have
sinned and done
evil indeed; but as for these sheep, what have they done? let thine hand, I pray thee, O LORD my God, be on me, and on my father’s house; but not on thy people, that they should be plagued.
And David said to God, “Was it not I who gave the order to count the people? I am the one who has
sinned and acted wickedly. But these sheep, what have they done? O LORD my God, please let Your hand fall upon me and my father’s house, but do not let this plague remain upon Your people.”
And it shall be answered, Because they
forsook the LORD God of their fathers, which brought them forth out of the land of Egypt, and laid hold on other gods, and worshipped them, and served them: therefore hath he brought all this
evil upon them.
And others will answer, ‘Because they have
forsaken the LORD, the God of their fathers, who brought them out of the land of Egypt, and have embraced other gods, worshiping and serving them—because of this, He has brought all this
disaster upon them.’”
And he did evil, because he prepared not his heart to seek the LORD.
And
Rehoboam did
evil because he did not set his heart to seek the LORD.
And the king of Israel said unto
Jehoshaphat, There is yet one man, by whom we may
enquire of the LORD: but I
hate him; for he never
prophesied good unto me, but always
evil: the same is Micaiah the son of Imla. And
Jehoshaphat said, Let not the king say so.
The king of Israel answered, “There is still one man who can ask the LORD, but I
hate him because he never prophesies anything good for me, but only bad. He is Micaiah son of Imlah.” “The king should not say that!”
Jehoshaphat replied.
And the king of Israel said to
Jehoshaphat, Did I not tell thee that he would not
prophesy good unto me, but
evil?
Then the king of Israel said to
Jehoshaphat, “Did I not tell you that he never prophesies good for me, but only bad?”
Now therefore, behold, the LORD hath put a lying spirit in the mouth of these thy prophets, and the LORD hath spoken evil against thee.
So you see, the LORD has put a lying spirit in the mouths of these prophets of yours, and the LORD has pronounced
disaster against you.”
If, when
evil cometh upon us, as the sword, judgment, or
pestilence, or famine, we stand before this house, and in thy presence, (for thy name is in this house,) and cry unto thee in our
affliction, then thou
wilt hear and help.
‘If
disaster comes upon us—whether sword or judgment, plague or famine—we will stand before this temple and before You, for Your Name is in this temple. We will cry out to You in our distress, and You will hear us and save us.’
And he walked in the way of the kings of Israel, like as did the house of
Ahab: for he had the daughter of
Ahab to wife: and he wrought that which was
evil in the eyes of the LORD.
And Jehoram walked in the ways of the kings of Israel, just as the house of
Ahab had done. For he married a daughter of
Ahab and did
evil in the sight of the LORD.
Wherefore he did
evil in the sight of the LORD like the house of
Ahab: for they were his counsellors after the death of his father to his destruction.
And he did
evil in the sight of the LORD, as the house of
Ahab had done, for to his destruction they were his counselors after the death of his father.
For our fathers have
trespassed, and done that which was
evil in the eyes of the LORD our God, and have
forsaken him, and have turned away their faces from the
habitation of the LORD, and turned their backs.
For our fathers were unfaithful and did evil in the sight of the LORD our God. They abandoned Him, turned their faces away from the dwelling place of the LORD, and turned their backs on Him.
But did that which was evil in the sight of the LORD, like unto the abominations of the heathen, whom the LORD had cast out before the children of Israel.
And he did evil in the sight of the LORD by following the abominations of the nations that the LORD had driven out before the Israelites.
And he caused his children to pass through the fire in the valley of the son of
Hinnom: also he observed times, and used enchantments, and used
witchcraft, and dealt with a familiar spirit, and with wizards: he wrought much
evil in the sight of the LORD, to
provoke him to anger.
He sacrificed his sons in the fire in the Valley of
Hinnom. He practiced
sorcery,
divination, and
witchcraft, and consulted mediums and spiritists. He did great
evil in the sight of the LORD,
provoking Him to anger.
So
Manasseh made Judah and the inhabitants of Jerusalem to
err, and to do worse than the heathen, whom the LORD had destroyed before the children of Israel.
So
Manasseh led the people of Judah and Jerusalem
astray, so that they did greater
evil than the nations that the LORD had destroyed before the Israelites.
But he did that which was
evil in the sight of the LORD, as did
Manasseh his father: for Amon sacrificed unto all the carved images which
Manasseh his father had made, and served them;
And he did
evil in the sight of the LORD, as his father
Manasseh had done. Amon served and sacrificed to all the idols that his father
Manasseh had made,
Thus saith the LORD, Behold, I will bring evil upon this place, and upon the inhabitants thereof, even all the curses that are written in the book which they have read before the king of Judah:
that this is what the LORD says: I am about to bring
calamity on this place and on its people, according to all the curses written in the book that has been read in the presence of the king of Judah,
Behold, I will gather thee to thy fathers, and thou shalt be gathered to thy grave in peace, neither shall thine eyes see all the evil that I will bring upon this place, and upon the inhabitants of the same. So they brought the king word again.
‘Now I will indeed gather you to your fathers, and you will be gathered to your grave in peace. Your eyes will not see all the
calamity that I will bring on this place and on its inhabitants.’” So they brought her answer back to the king.
Jehoiakim was twenty and five years old when he began to reign, and he reigned eleven years in Jerusalem: and he did that which was
evil in the sight of the LORD his God.
Jehoiakim was twenty-five years old when he became king, and he reigned in Jerusalem eleven years. And he did
evil in the sight of the LORD his God.
Jehoiachin was eight years old when he began to reign, and he reigned three months and ten days in Jerusalem: and he did that which was
evil in the sight of the LORD.
Jehoiachin was eighteen years old when he became king, and he reigned in Jerusalem three months and ten days. And he did
evil in the sight of the LORD.
And he did that which was evil in the sight of the LORD his God, and humbled not himself before Jeremiah the prophet speaking from the mouth of the LORD.
And he did evil in the sight of the LORD his God and did not humble himself before Jeremiah the prophet, who spoke for the LORD.
And after all that is come upon us for our
evil deeds, and for our great
trespass, seeing that thou our God hast punished us less than our
iniquities deserve, and hast given us such
deliverance as this;
After all that has come upon us because of our
evil deeds and our great guilt (though You, our God, have punished us less than our
iniquities deserve and have given us such a
remnant as this),
Therefore was he
hired, that I should be afraid, and do so, and sin, and that they might have matter for an
evil report, that they might reproach me.
He had been
hired to
intimidate me so that I would sin by doing as he suggested, so they could give me a bad name in order to discredit me.
