For there is a man whose labour is in wisdom, and in knowledge, and in
equity; yet to a man that hath not laboured therein shall he leave it for his portion. This also is vanity and a great
evil.

futile and a great
evil.

sore evil which I have seen under the sun, namely, riches kept for the owners thereof to their
hurt.

evil travail: and he begetteth a son, and there is nothing in his hand.
or wealth lost in a failed
venture, so when that man has a son there is nothing to pass on.
And this also is a
sore evil, that in all points as he came, so shall he go: and what profit hath he that hath laboured for the wind?
This too is a
grievous evil: Exactly as a man is born, so he will depart. What does he gain as he toils for the wind?
There is an evil which I have seen under the sun, and it is common among men:
There is another
evil I have seen under the sun, and it weighs
heavily upon mankind:

sinner do
evil an hundred times, and his days be prolonged, yet surely I know that it shall be well with them that fear God, which fear before him:

This is an
evil among all things that are done under the sun, that there is one event unto all:

snared in an
evil time, when it falleth suddenly upon them.

trapped in a
snare, so men are ensnared in an
evil time that suddenly falls upon them.
There is an evil which I have seen under the sun, as an error which proceedeth from the ruler:

evil from thy flesh: for

Remember now thy
Creator in the days of thy youth, while the
evil days come not, nor the years draw
nigh, when thou shalt say, I have no pleasure in them;
Remember your
Creator in the days of your youth, before the days of
adversity come and the years approach of which you will say, “I find no pleasure in them,”

Ah sinful nation, a people
laden with iniquity, a seed of
evildoers, children that are corrupters: they have
forsaken the LORD, they have
provoked the Holy One of Israel unto anger, they are gone away backward.
Alas, O sinful nation, a people
laden with iniquity, a
brood of
evildoers, children of
depravity! They have
forsaken the LORD; they have
despised the Holy One of Israel and turned their backs on Him.

The
shew of their countenance
doth witness against them; and they declare their sin as
Sodom, they hide it not.
Woe unto their soul! for they have rewarded
evil unto themselves.
The expression on their faces testifies against them, and like
Sodom they
flaunt their sin; they do not
conceal it.
Woe to them, for they have brought
disaster upon themselves.
Woe unto them that call
evil good, and good
evil; that put darkness for light, and light for darkness; that put bitter for sweet, and sweet for bitter!
Woe to those who call
evil good and good
evil, who turn darkness to light and light to darkness, who replace bitter with sweet and sweet with bitter.
Because Syria, Ephraim, and the son of Remaliah, have taken evil counsel against thee, saying,
For
Aram, along with Ephraim and the son of Remaliah, has
plotted your ruin, saying:
Butter and honey shall he eat, that he may know to refuse the evil, and choose the good.
By the time He knows enough to
reject evil and choose good, He will be eating curds and honey.
For before the child shall know to refuse the
evil, and choose the good, the land that thou abhorrest shall be
forsaken of both her kings.

reject evil and choose good, the land of the two kings you
dread will be laid waste.
Therefore the Lord shall have no joy in their young men, neither shall have mercy on their fatherless and widows: for every one is an
hypocrite and an
evildoer, and every mouth speaketh folly. For all this his anger is not turned away, but his hand is stretched out still.
Therefore the Lord takes no pleasure in their young men; He has no
compassion on their fatherless and widows. For every one of them is godless and wicked, and every mouth speaks folly.
Despite all this, His anger is not turned away; His hand is still upraised.
And I will
punish the world for their
evil, and the wicked for their iniquity; and I will cause the
arrogancy of the proud to cease, and will lay low the
haughtiness of the terrible.
Thou shalt not be joined with them in burial, because thou hast destroyed thy land, and slain thy people: the seed of
evildoers shall never be
renowned.
You will not join them in burial, since you have destroyed your land and slaughtered your own people. The offspring of the wicked will never again be mentioned.
For the terrible one is brought to
nought, and the
scorner is consumed, and all that watch for iniquity are cut off:
For the
ruthless will
vanish, the mockers will disappear, and all who look for
evil will be cut down—
Yet he also is wise, and will bring evil, and will not call back his words: but will arise against the house of the evildoers, and against the help of them that work iniquity.
Yet He too is wise and brings
disaster; He does not call back His words. He will rise up against the house of the wicked and against the allies of
evildoers.
The instruments also of the
churl are
evil: he deviseth wicked devices to destroy the poor with lying words, even when the
needy speaketh right.

scoundrel are destructive; he hatches plots to destroy the poor with lies, even when the
plea of the
needy is just.
He that walketh righteously, and speaketh uprightly; he that despiseth the gain of oppressions, that shaketh his hands from holding of bribes, that stoppeth his ears from hearing of blood, and shutteth his eyes from seeing evil;
He who walks righteously and speaks with
sincerity, who refuses gain from
extortion, whose hand never takes a
bribe, who stops his ears against
murderous plots and shuts his eyes
tightly against
evil—
Shew the things that are to come
hereafter, that we may know that ye are gods:
yea, do good, or do
evil, that we may be dismayed, and behold it together.
Tell us the things that are to come, so that we may know that you are gods.
Yes, do something good or
evil, that we may look on together in dismay.
I form the light, and
create darkness: I make peace, and
create evil: I the LORD do all these things.
I form the light and
create the darkness; I bring prosperity and
create calamity. I, the LORD, do all these things.
Therefore shall
evil come upon thee; thou shalt not know from whence it riseth: and mischief shall fall upon thee; thou shalt not be able to put if off: and
desolation shall come upon thee suddenly, which thou shalt not know.
But
disaster will come upon you; you will not know how to charm it away. A
calamity will
befall you that you will be unable to ward off.
Devastation will happen to you suddenly and unexpectedly.
Blessed is the man that doeth this, and the son of man that layeth hold on it; that keepeth the sabbath from
polluting it, and keepeth his hand from doing any
evil.
Blessed is the man who does this, and the son of man who holds it fast, who keeps the Sabbath without
profaning it and keeps his hand from doing any
evil.”

evil.
Their feet run to
evil, and they make
haste to shed innocent blood: their thoughts are thoughts of iniquity; wasting and destruction are in their paths.
Their feet run to
evil; they are swift to shed innocent blood. Their thoughts are sinful thoughts; ruin and destruction lie in their
wake.
Yea, truth faileth; and he that departeth from
evil maketh himself a prey: and the LORD saw it, and it displeased him that there was no judgment.
Truth is missing, and
whoever turns from
evil becomes prey. The LORD looked and was displeased that there was no justice.
Therefore will I number you to the sword, and ye shall all bow down to the slaughter: because when I called, ye did not answer; when I spake, ye did not hear; but did evil before mine eyes, and did choose that wherein I delighted not.
I will
destine you for the sword, and you will all
kneel down to be slaughtered, because I called and you did not answer, I spoke and you did not
listen; you did
evil in My sight and chose that in which I did not delight.”
I also will choose their delusions, and will bring their fears upon them; because when I called, none did answer; when I spake, they did not hear: but they did evil before mine eyes, and chose that in which I delighted not.
So I will choose their punishment and I will bring terror upon them, because I called and no one answered, I spoke and no one
listened. But they did
evil in My sight and chose that in which I did not delight.”
Then the LORD said unto me, Out of the north an evil shall break forth upon all the inhabitants of the land.
Then the LORD said to me, “
Disaster from the north will be poured out on all who live in the land.
Israel was
holiness unto the LORD, and the firstfruits of his increase: all that
devour him shall
offend;
evil shall come upon them, saith the LORD.
Israel was holy to the LORD, the firstfruits of His harvest. All who
devoured her found themselves guilty;
disaster came upon them,’” declares the LORD.
For my people have committed two
evils; they have
forsaken me the fountain of living waters, and
hewed them out cisterns, broken cisterns, that can hold no water.
“For My people have committed two
evils: They have
forsaken Me, the fountain of living water, and they have
dug their own cisterns— broken cisterns that cannot hold water.
Thine own wickedness shall correct thee, and thy backslidings shall reprove thee: know therefore and see that it is an
evil thing and bitter, that thou hast
forsaken the LORD thy God, and that my fear is not in thee, saith the Lord GOD of hosts.
Your own
evil will discipline you; your own
apostasies will
reprimand you. Consider and
realize how
evil and bitter it is for you to
forsake the LORD your God and to have no fear of Me,” declares the Lord GOD of Hosts.
Will he reserve his anger for ever? will he keep it to the end? Behold, thou hast spoken and done evil things as thou couldest.
Will He be
angry forever? Will He be
indignant to the end?’ This you have spoken, but you keep doing all the
evil you can.”
At that time they shall call Jerusalem the throne of the LORD; and all the nations shall be gathered unto it, to the name of the LORD, to Jerusalem: neither shall they walk any more after the imagination of their evil heart.
At that time Jerusalem will be called The Throne of the LORD, and all the nations will be gathered in Jerusalem to honor the name of the LORD. They will no longer follow the
stubbornness of their
evil hearts.
Circumcise yourselves to the LORD, and take away the foreskins of your heart, ye men of Judah and inhabitants of Jerusalem: lest my
fury come forth like fire, and burn that none can
quench it, because of the
evil of your doings.
Circumcise yourselves to the LORD, and remove the foreskins of your hearts, O men of Judah and people of Jerusalem. Otherwise, My wrath will break out like fire and burn with no one to
extinguish it, because of your
evil deeds.”
Set up the standard toward
Zion: retire, stay not: for I will bring
evil from the north, and a great destruction.
Raise a signal flag toward
Zion. Seek refuge! Do not delay! For I am bringing
disaster from the north, and terrible destruction.
O Jerusalem, wash thine heart from wickedness, that thou mayest be saved. How long shall thy vain thoughts
lodge within thee?
Wash the
evil from your heart, O Jerusalem, so that you may be saved. How long will you
harbor wicked thoughts within you?
For my people is
foolish, they have not known me; they are
sottish children, and they have none understanding: they are wise to do
evil, but to do good they have no knowledge.
“For My people are fools; they have not known Me. They are
foolish children, without understanding. They are skilled in doing
evil, but they know not how to do good.”
They have
belied the LORD, and said, It is not he; neither shall
evil come upon us; neither shall we see sword nor famine:
They have
lied about the LORD and said: “He will not do anything;
harm will not come to us; we will not see sword or famine.
O ye children of Benjamin, gather
yourselves to
flee out of the midst of Jerusalem, and blow the
trumpet in Tekoa, and set up a sign of fire in Beth-haccerem: for
evil appeareth out of the north, and great destruction.
“Run for cover, O sons of Benjamin;
flee from Jerusalem! Sound the ram’s horn in Tekoa; send up a signal over Beth-haccherem, for
disaster looms from the north, even great destruction.
As a fountain casteth out her waters, so she casteth out her wickedness: violence and
spoil is heard in her; before me continually is grief and wounds.
As a well gushes its water, so she pours out her evil. Violence and destruction resound in her; sickness and wounds are ever before Me.
Hear, O earth: behold, I will bring
evil upon this people, even the fruit of their thoughts, because they have not
hearkened unto my words, nor to my law, but rejected it.
Hear, O earth! I am bringing
disaster on this people, the fruit of their own schemes, because they have paid no attention to My word and have rejected My instruction.
