Berean Standard Bible BSB Bible
By mercy and truth iniquity is
purged: and by the
fear of the LORD men depart from evil.
By loving devotion and faithfulness iniquity is
atoned for, and by the
fear of the LORD one turns aside from evil.
The
fear of the LORD tendeth to life: and he that hath it shall
abide satisfied; he shall not be visited with evil.
The
fear of the LORD leads to life, that one may rest content, without
visitation from
harm.
The
fear of a king is as the
roaring of a lion:
whoso provoketh him to anger sinneth against his own soul.
The terror of a king is like the
roar of a lion;
whoever provokes him forfeits his own life.
By
humility and the
fear of the LORD are riches, and honour, and life.
The rewards of
humility and the
fear of the LORD are wealth and honor and life.
Let not thine heart
envy sinners: but be thou in the
fear of the LORD all the day long.
Do not let your heart
envy sinners, but always continue in the
fear of the LORD.
My son,
fear thou the LORD and the king: and
meddle not with them that are given to change:
My son,
fear the LORD and the king, and do not associate with the
rebellious.
Happy is the man that
feareth alway: but he that hardeneth his heart shall fall into mischief.
Blessed is the man who is always
reverent, but he who hardens his heart falls into trouble.
The
fear of man bringeth a
snare: but
whoso putteth his trust in the LORD shall be safe.
The
fear of man is a
snare, but
whoever trusts in the LORD is set securely on high.
She is not afraid of the snow for her household: for all her household are clothed with scarlet.
When it snows, she has no fear for her household, for they are all clothed in scarlet.
Favour is
deceitful, and beauty is vain: but a woman that
feareth the LORD, she shall be praised.
Charm is
deceptive and beauty is fleeting, but a woman who
fears the LORD is to be praised.
I know that,
whatsoever God doeth, it shall be for ever: nothing can be put to it, nor any thing taken from it: and God doeth it, that men should
fear before him.
I know that everything God does endures
forever; nothing can be added to it or taken from it. God does it so that they should
fear Him.
For in the multitude of dreams and many words there are also
divers vanities: but
fear thou God.
For as many dreams bring
futility, so do many words. Therefore,
fear God.
It is good that thou shouldest take hold of this;
yea, also from this withdraw not thine hand: for he that
feareth God shall come forth of them all.
It is good to
grasp the one and not let the other slip from your hand. For he who
fears God will follow both warnings.
Though a
sinner do evil an hundred times, and his days be prolonged, yet surely I know that it shall be well with them that
fear God, which
fear before him:
Although a
sinner does evil a hundred times and still lives long, yet I also know that it will go well with those who
fear God, who are
reverent in His presence.
But it shall not be well with the wicked, neither shall he
prolong his days, which are as a shadow; because he
feareth not before God.
Yet because the wicked do not
fear God, it will not go well with them, and their days will not
lengthen like a shadow.
All things come alike to all: there is one event to the righteous, and to the wicked; to the good and to the clean, and to the unclean; to him that sacrificeth, and to him that sacrificeth not: as is the good, so is the
sinner; and he that sweareth, as he that
feareth an oath.
It is the same for all: There is a common fate for the righteous and the wicked, for the good and the bad, for the clean and the unclean, for the one who sacrifices and the one who does not. As it is for the good, so it is for the
sinner; as it is for the one who makes a
vow, so it is for the one who refuses to take a
vow.
Also when they shall be afraid of that which is high, and
fears shall be in the way, and the
almond tree shall
flourish, and the
grasshopper shall be a burden, and desire shall fail: because man goeth to his long home, and the mourners go about the streets:
when men
fear the heights and dangers of the road, when the
almond tree blossoms, the
grasshopper loses its spring, and the caper
berry shrivels— for then man goes to his eternal home and mourners walk the streets.
Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter: Fear God, and keep his commandments: for this is the whole duty of man.
When all has been heard, the conclusion of the matter is this: Fear God and keep His commandments, because this is the whole duty of man.
They all hold swords, being
expert in war: every man hath his sword upon his
thigh because of
fear in the night.
All are skilled with the sword, experienced in warfare. Each has his sword at his side prepared for the terror of the night.
Enter into the rock, and hide thee in the dust, for fear of the LORD, and for the glory of his majesty.
Go into the rocks and hide in the dust from the terror of the LORD and the
splendor of His majesty.
And they shall go into the holes of the rocks, and into the caves of the earth, for
fear of the LORD, and for the glory of his majesty, when he ariseth to
shake terribly the earth.
Men will
flee to caves in the rocks and holes in the ground, away from the terror of the LORD and from the
splendor of His majesty, when He rises to
shake the earth.
To go into the clefts of the rocks, and into the tops of the
ragged rocks, for
fear of the LORD, and for the glory of his majesty, when he ariseth to
shake terribly the earth.
They will
flee to caverns in the rocks and crevices in the cliffs, away from the terror of the LORD and from the
splendor of His majesty, when He rises to
shake the earth.
And say unto him, Take
heed, and be quiet;
fear not, neither be
fainthearted for the two tails of these smoking firebrands, for the fierce anger of Rezin with Syria, and of the son of Remaliah.
and say to him: Calm down and be quiet. Do not be afraid or
disheartened over these two
smoldering stubs of
firewood—over the fierce anger of Rezin and
Aram and of the son of Remaliah.
And on all hills that shall be
digged with the
mattock, there shall not come thither the
fear of briers and thorns: but it shall be for the sending forth of oxen, and for the
treading of lesser cattle.
For
fear of the briers and thorns, you will no longer
traverse the hills once tilled by the
hoe; they will become places for oxen to
graze and sheep to
trample.
Say ye not, A
confederacy, to all them to whom this people shall say, A
confederacy; neither
fear ye their
fear, nor be afraid.
Sanctify the LORD of hosts himself; and let him be your
fear, and let him be your
dread.
The LORD of Hosts is the One you shall regard as holy. Only He should be
feared; only He should be
dreaded.
Therefore thus saith the Lord GOD of hosts, O my people that dwellest in
Zion, be not afraid of the Assyrian: he shall
smite thee with a rod, and shall lift up his staff against thee, after the manner of Egypt.
Therefore this is what the Lord GOD of Hosts says: “O My people who dwell in
Zion, do not
fear Assyria, who strikes you with a rod and lifts his staff against you as the Egyptians did.
And the spirit of the LORD shall rest upon him, the spirit of wisdom and understanding, the spirit of counsel and might, the spirit of knowledge and of the fear of the LORD;
The Spirit of the LORD will rest on Him— the Spirit of wisdom and understanding, the Spirit of counsel and strength, the Spirit of knowledge and fear of the LORD.
And shall make him of quick understanding in the fear of the LORD: and he shall not judge after the sight of his eyes, neither reprove after the hearing of his ears:
And He will delight in the fear of the LORD. He will not judge by what His eyes see, and He will not decide by what His ears hear,
And they shall be afraid: pangs and sorrows shall take hold of them; they shall be in pain as a woman that travaileth: they shall be
amazed one at another; their faces shall be as flames.
Terror, pain, and
anguish will seize them; they will
writhe like a woman in labor. They will look at one another, their faces
flushed with
fear.
And it shall come to pass in the day that the LORD shall give thee rest from thy sorrow, and from thy
fear, and from the hard
bondage wherein thou
wast made to serve,
On the day that the LORD gives you rest from your pain and
torment, and from the hard labor into which you were forced,
The cities of Aroer are
forsaken: they shall be for flocks, which shall lie down, and none shall make them afraid.
The cities of Aroer are
forsaken; they will be left to the flocks, which will lie down with no one to
fear.
That sendeth ambassadors by the sea, even in vessels of bulrushes upon the waters, saying, Go, ye swift messengers, to a nation scattered and
peeled, to a people terrible from their beginning hitherto; a nation meted out and
trodden down, whose land the rivers have
spoiled!
which sends couriers by sea, in
papyrus vessels on the waters. Go, swift messengers, to a people tall and smooth-
skinned, to a people widely
feared, to a powerful nation of strange speech, whose land is divided by rivers.
In that time shall the present be brought unto the LORD of hosts of a people scattered and
peeled, and from a people terrible from their beginning hitherto; a nation meted out and
trodden under foot, whose land the rivers have
spoiled, to the place of the name of the LORD of hosts, the mount
Zion.
At that time gifts will be brought to the LORD of Hosts— from a people tall and smooth-
skinned, from a people widely
feared, from a powerful nation of strange speech, whose land is divided by rivers— to Mount
Zion, the place of the Name of the LORD of Hosts.
In that day shall Egypt be like unto women: and it shall be afraid and
fear because of the
shaking of the hand of the LORD of hosts, which he shaketh over it.
In that day the Egyptians will be like women. They will
tremble with
fear beneath the
uplifted hand of the LORD of Hosts, when He brandishes it against them.
Fear, and the pit, and the
snare, are upon thee, O inhabitant of the earth.
Terror and pit and
snare await you, O dweller of the earth.
And it shall come to pass, that he who fleeth from the noise of the
fear shall fall into the pit; and he that cometh up out of the midst of the pit shall be taken in the
snare: for the windows from on high are open, and the foundations of the earth do
shake.
Whoever flees the sound of
panic will fall into the pit, and
whoever climbs from the pit will be caught in the
snare. For the windows of heaven are open, and the foundations of the earth are
shaken.
Therefore shall the strong people
glorify thee, the city of the terrible nations shall
fear thee.
Therefore, a strong people will honor You. The cities of
ruthless nations will
revere You.
Wherefore the Lord said,
Forasmuch as this people draw near me with their mouth, and with their lips do honour me, but have removed their heart far from me, and their
fear toward me is taught by the
precept of men:
Therefore the Lord said: “These people draw near to Me with their mouths and honor Me with their lips, but their hearts are far from Me. Their worship of Me is but rules taught by men.
But when he
seeth his children, the work of mine hands, in the midst of him, they shall
sanctify my name, and
sanctify the Holy One of Jacob, and shall
fear the God of Israel.
For when he sees his children around him, the work of My hands, they will honor My name, they will
sanctify the Holy One of Jacob, and they will stand in
awe of the God of Israel.
And he shall pass over to his strong hold for
fear, and his princes shall be afraid of the
ensign, saith the LORD, whose fire is in
Zion, and his furnace in Jerusalem.
Their rock will pass away for
fear, and their princes will
panic at the sight of the battle standard,” declares the LORD, whose fire is in
Zion, whose furnace is in Jerusalem.
And wisdom and knowledge shall be the stability of thy times, and strength of salvation: the
fear of the LORD is his
treasure.
He will be the sure foundation for your times, a
storehouse of salvation, wisdom, and knowledge. The
fear of the LORD is
Zion’s
treasure.
The sinners in
Zion are afraid;
fearfulness hath surprised the hypocrites. Who among us shall dwell with the
devouring fire? who among us shall dwell with
everlasting burnings?
Say to them that are of a
fearful heart, Be strong,
fear not: behold, your God will come with
vengeance, even God with a recompence; he will come and save you.
Say to those with anxious hearts: “Be strong, do not
fear! Behold, your God will come with
vengeance. With divine
retribution He will come to save you.”
The isles saw it, and feared; the ends of the earth were afraid, drew near, and came.
The islands see and
fear; the ends of the earth
tremble. They approach and come forward.
Fear thou not; for I am with thee: be not dismayed; for I am thy God: I will
strengthen thee;
yea, I will help thee;
yea, I will
uphold thee with the right hand of my righteousness.
Do not
fear, for I am with you; do not be afraid, for I am your God. I will
strengthen you; I will surely help you; I will
uphold you with My right hand of righteousness.
For I the LORD thy God will hold thy right hand, saying unto thee, Fear not; I will help thee.
For I am the LORD your God, who takes hold of your right hand and tells you: Do not fear, I will help you.
Fear not, thou worm Jacob, and ye men of Israel; I will help thee, saith the LORD, and thy
redeemer, the Holy One of Israel.
Do not
fear, O worm of Jacob, O few men of Israel. I will help you,” declares the LORD. “Your
Redeemer is the Holy One of Israel.
But now thus saith the LORD that created thee, O Jacob, and he that formed thee, O Israel, Fear not: for I have redeemed thee, I have called thee by thy name; thou art mine.
Now this is what the LORD says— He who created you, O Jacob, and He who formed you, O Israel: “Do not fear, for I have redeemed you; I have called you by your name; you are Mine!
Fear not: for I am with thee: I will bring thy seed from the east, and gather thee from the west;
Do not be afraid, for I am with you; I will bring your offspring from the east and gather you from the west.
Thus saith the LORD that made thee, and formed thee from the
womb, which will help thee;
Fear not, O Jacob, my servant; and thou, Jesurun, whom I have chosen.
This is the word of the LORD, your Maker, who formed you from the
womb and who will help you: “Do not be afraid, O Jacob My servant,
Jeshurun, whom I have chosen.
Fear ye not, neither be afraid: have not I told thee from that time, and have declared it? ye are even my witnesses. Is there a God beside me?
yea, there is no God; I know not any.
Do not
tremble or
fear. Have I not told you and declared it long ago? You are My witnesses! Is there any God but Me? There is no other Rock; I know not one.”
Behold, all his fellows shall be
ashamed: and the workmen, they are of men: let them all be gathered together, let them stand up; yet they shall
fear, and they shall be
ashamed together.
Behold, all his companions will be put to shame, for the
craftsmen themselves are only human. Let them all
assemble and take their stand; they will all be brought to terror and shame.
Who is among you that feareth the LORD, that obeyeth the voice of his servant, that walketh in darkness, and hath no light? let him trust in the name of the LORD, and stay upon his God.
Who among you
fears the LORD and obeys the voice of His Servant? Who among you walks in darkness and has no light? Let him trust in the name of the LORD; let him
lean on his God.
Hearken unto me, ye that know righteousness, the people in whose heart is my law;
fear ye not the reproach of men, neither be ye afraid of their revilings.
Listen to Me, you who know what is right, you people with My law in your hearts: Do not
fear the
scorn of men; do not be broken by their insults.
And forgettest the LORD thy maker, that hath stretched forth the heavens, and laid the foundations of the earth; and hast
feared continually every day because of the
fury of the
oppressor, as if he were ready to destroy? and where is the
fury of the
oppressor?
But you have forgotten the LORD, your Maker, who stretched out the heavens and laid the foundations of the earth. You live in terror all day long because of the
fury of the
oppressor who is bent on destruction. But where is the
fury of the
oppressor?
Fear not; for thou shalt not be
ashamed: neither be thou confounded; for thou shalt not be put to shame: for thou shalt
forget the shame of thy youth, and shalt not remember the reproach of thy
widowhood any more.
Do not be afraid, for you will not be put to shame; do not be
intimidated, for you will not be
humiliated. For you will
forget the shame of your youth and will remember no more the reproach of your
widowhood.
In righteousness shalt thou be established: thou shalt be far from oppression; for thou shalt not fear: and from terror; for it shall not come near thee.
In righteousness you will be established, far from oppression, for you will have no fear. Terror will be far removed, for it will not come near you.
And of whom hast thou been afraid or
feared, that thou hast
lied, and hast not remembered me, nor laid it to thy heart? have not I held my peace even of old, and thou
fearest me not?
Whom have you
dreaded and
feared, so that you
lied and failed to remember Me or take this to heart? Is it not because I have long been silent that you do not
fear Me?
So shall they fear the name of the LORD from the west, and his glory from the rising of the sun. When the enemy shall come in like a flood, the Spirit of the LORD shall lift up a standard against him.
So shall they
fear the name of the LORD where the sun sets, and His glory where it rises. For He will come like a
raging flood, driven by the breath of the LORD.
Then thou shalt see, and flow together, and thine heart shall fear, and be enlarged; because the abundance of the sea shall be converted unto thee, the forces of the Gentiles shall come unto thee.
Then you will look and be
radiant, and your heart will
tremble and swell with joy, because the riches of the sea will be brought to you, and the wealth of the nations will come to you.
O LORD, why hast thou made us to
err from thy ways, and
hardened our heart from thy
fear? Return for thy servants’ sake, the tribes of thine inheritance.
Why, O LORD, do You make us
stray from Your ways and
harden our hearts from
fearing You? Return, for the sake of Your servants, the tribes of Your
heritage.
I also will choose their delusions, and will bring their fears upon them; because when I called, none did answer; when I spake, they did not hear: but they did evil before mine eyes, and chose that in which I delighted not.
So I will choose their punishment and I will bring terror upon them, because I called and no one answered, I spoke and no one
listened. But they did evil in My sight and chose that in which I did not delight.”
Thine own wickedness shall correct thee, and thy backslidings shall reprove thee: know therefore and see that it is an evil thing and bitter, that thou hast
forsaken the LORD thy God, and that my
fear is not in thee, saith the Lord GOD of hosts.
Your own evil will discipline you; your own
apostasies will
reprimand you. Consider and
realize how evil and bitter it is for you to
forsake the LORD your God and to have no
fear of Me,” declares the Lord GOD of Hosts.
And I saw, when for all the causes whereby
backsliding Israel committed
adultery I had put her away, and given her a bill of
divorce; yet her
treacherous sister Judah
feared not, but went and played the
harlot also.
She saw that because faithless Israel had committed
adultery, I gave her a
certificate of
divorce and sent her away. Yet that unfaithful sister Judah had no
fear and
prostituted herself as well.
And it shall come to pass at that day, saith the LORD, that the heart of the king shall perish, and the heart of the princes; and the priests shall be
astonished, and the prophets shall wonder.
“In that day,” declares the LORD, “the king and officials will lose their courage. The priests will
tremble in
fear, and the prophets will be
astounded.”
Fear ye not me? saith the LORD: will ye not
tremble at my presence, which have placed the sand for the bound of the sea by a perpetual decree, that it cannot pass it: and though the waves thereof
toss themselves, yet can they not prevail; though they
roar, yet can they not pass over it?
Do you not
fear Me?” declares the LORD. “Do you not
tremble before Me, the One who set the sand as the boundary for the sea, an
enduring barrier it cannot cross? The waves
surge, but they cannot prevail. They
roar but cannot cross it.
Neither say they in their heart, Let us now fear the LORD our God, that giveth rain, both the former and the latter, in his season: he reserveth unto us the appointed weeks of the harvest.
They have not said in their hearts, ‘Let us fear the LORD our God, who gives the rains, both autumn and spring, in season, who keeps for us the appointed weeks of harvest.’
Go not forth into the field, nor walk by the way; for the sword of the enemy and fear is on every side.
Do not go out to the fields; do not walk the road. For the enemy has a sword; terror is on every side.
They are upright as the palm tree, but speak not: they must needs be borne, because they cannot go. Be not afraid of them; for they cannot do evil, neither also is it in them to do good.
Like scarecrows in a
cucumber patch, their idols cannot speak. They must be carried because they cannot walk. Do not
fear them, for they can do no
harm, and neither can they do any good.”
Who would not
fear thee, O King of nations? for to thee
doth it
appertain:
forasmuch as among all the wise men of the nations, and in all their kingdoms, there is none like unto thee.
Who would not fear You, O King of nations? This is Your due. For among all the wise men of the nations, and in all their kingdoms, there is none like You.
For he shall be as a tree planted by the waters, and that spreadeth out her roots by the river, and shall not see when heat cometh, but her leaf shall be green; and shall not be careful in the year of
drought, neither shall cease from yielding fruit.
He is like a tree planted by the waters that sends out its roots toward the stream. It does not
fear when the heat comes, and its leaves are always green. It does not
worry in a year of
drought, nor does it cease to produce fruit.
For I heard the
defaming of many,
fear on every side. Report, say they, and we will report it. All my familiars watched for my
halting, saying,
Peradventure he will be
enticed, and we shall prevail against him, and we shall take our
revenge on him.
For I have heard the
whispering of many: “Terror is on every side! Report him; let us report him!” All my trusted friends watch for my fall: “Perhaps he will be
deceived so that we may prevail against him and take our
vengeance upon him.”
But the LORD is with me as a mighty terrible one: therefore my persecutors shall
stumble, and they shall not prevail: they shall be greatly
ashamed; for they shall not
prosper: their
everlasting confusion shall never be forgotten.
But the LORD is with me like a
fearsome warrior. Therefore, my persecutors will
stumble and will not prevail. Since they have not succeeded, they will be utterly put to shame, with an
everlasting disgrace that will never be forgotten.
And I will give thee into the hand of them that seek thy life, and into the hand of them whose face thou fearest, even into the hand of Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon, and into the hand of the Chaldeans.
In fact, I will hand you over to those you
dread, who want to take your life—to
Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon and to the Chaldeans.
And I will set up
shepherds over them which shall feed them: and they shall
fear no more, nor be dismayed, neither shall they be lacking, saith the LORD.
I will raise up
shepherds over them who will tend them, and they will no longer be afraid or dismayed, nor will any go missing, declares the LORD.
Did
Hezekiah king of Judah and all Judah put him at all to death? did he not
fear the LORD, and
besought the LORD, and the LORD
repented him of the evil which he had pronounced against them? Thus might we
procure great evil against our souls.
Did
Hezekiah king of Judah or
anyone else in Judah put him to death? Did
Hezekiah not
fear the LORD and seek His favor, and did not the LORD relent of the
disaster He had pronounced against them? But we are about to bring great
harm on ourselves!”
And when
Jehoiakim the king, with all his mighty men, and all the princes, heard his words, the king sought to put him to death: but when Urijah heard it, he was afraid, and fled, and went into Egypt;
King
Jehoiakim and all his mighty men and officials heard his words, and the king sought to put him to death. But when Uriah found out about it, he fled in
fear and went to Egypt.
For thus saith the LORD; We have heard a voice of
trembling, of
fear, and not of peace.
Yes, this is what the LORD says: “A cry of
panic is heard— a cry of terror, not of peace.
Therefore
fear thou not, O my servant Jacob, saith the LORD; neither be dismayed, O Israel: for, lo, I will save thee from
afar, and thy seed from the land of their captivity; and Jacob shall return, and shall be in rest, and be quiet, and none shall make him afraid.
As for you, O Jacob My servant, do not be afraid, declares the LORD, and do not be dismayed, O Israel. For I will surely save you out of a distant place, your descendants from the land of their captivity! Jacob will return to quiet and ease, with no one to make him afraid.
And I will give them one heart, and one way, that they may fear me for ever, for the good of them, and of their children after them:
I will give them one heart and one way, so that they will always fear Me for their own good and for the good of their children after them.
And I will make an
everlasting covenant with them, that I will not turn away from them, to do them good; but I will put my
fear in their hearts, that they shall not depart from me.
I will make an
everlasting covenant with them: I will never turn away from doing good to them, and I will put My
fear in their hearts, so that they will never turn away from Me.
And it shall be to me a name of joy, a praise and an honour before all the nations of the earth, which shall hear all the good that I do unto them: and they shall
fear and
tremble for all the goodness and for all the prosperity that I
procure unto it.
So this city will bring Me
renown, joy, praise, and glory before all the nations of the earth, who will hear of all the good I do for it. They will
tremble in
awe because of all the goodness and prosperity that I will provide for it.
But it came to pass, when Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon came up into the land, that we said, Come, and let us go to Jerusalem for fear of the army of the Chaldeans, and for fear of the army of the Syrians: so we dwell at Jerusalem.
So when
Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon marched into the land, we said: ‘Come, let us go into Jerusalem to escape the armies of the Chaldeans and the Arameans.’ So we have remained in Jerusalem.”
Now it came to pass, when they had heard all the words, they were afraid both one and other, and said unto
Baruch, We will surely tell the king of all these words.
When they had heard all these words, they turned to one another in
fear and said to
Baruch, “Surely we must report all these words to the king.”
And it came to pass, that when the army of the Chaldeans was broken up from Jerusalem for fear of Pharaoh’s army,
When the
Chaldean army withdrew from Jerusalem for
fear of Pharaoh’s army,
But I will deliver thee in that day, saith the LORD: and thou shalt not be given into the hand of the men of whom thou art afraid.
But I will deliver you on that day, declares the LORD, and you will not be delivered into the hands of the men whom you fear.
And Gedaliah the son of
Ahikam the son of Shaphan
sware unto them and to their men, saying,
Fear not to serve the Chaldeans: dwell in the land, and serve the king of Babylon, and it shall be well with you.
Gedaliah son of
Ahikam, the son of Shaphan,
swore an oath to them and their men,
assuring them, “Do not be afraid to serve the Chaldeans. Live in the land and serve the king of Babylon, and it will go well with you.
Now the pit wherein
Ishmael had cast all the dead bodies of the men, whom he had slain because of Gedaliah, was it which
Asa the king had made for
fear of
Baasha king of Israel: and
Ishmael the son of Nethaniah filled it with them that were slain.
Now the
cistern into which
Ishmael had thrown all the bodies of the men he had struck down along with Gedaliah was a large one that King
Asa had made for
fear of
Baasha king of Israel.
Ishmael son of Nethaniah filled it with the slain.
Be not afraid of the king of Babylon, of whom ye are afraid; be not afraid of him, saith the LORD: for I am with you to save you, and to deliver you from his hand.
Do not be afraid of the king of Babylon, whom you now fear; do not be afraid of him, declares the LORD, for I am with you to save you and deliver you from him.
Then it shall come to pass, that the sword, which ye
feared, shall overtake you there in the land of Egypt, and the famine,
whereof ye were afraid, shall follow close after you there in Egypt; and there ye shall die.
then the sword you
fear will overtake you there, and the famine you
dread will follow on your heels into Egypt, and you will die there.
They are not humbled even unto this day, neither have they feared, nor walked in my law, nor in my statutes, that I set before you and before your fathers.
To this day they have not humbled themselves or shown reverence, nor have they followed My instruction or the statutes that I set before you and your fathers.
Wherefore have I seen them dismayed and turned away back? and their mighty ones are beaten down, and are fled
apace, and look not back: for
fear was round about, saith the LORD.
Why am I seeing this? They are
terrified, they are retreating; their warriors are defeated, they
flee in
haste without looking back; terror is on every side!” declares the LORD.
But
fear not thou, O my servant Jacob, and be not dismayed, O Israel: for, behold, I will save thee from
afar off, and thy seed from the land of their captivity; and Jacob shall return, and be in rest and at ease, and none shall make him afraid.
But you, O Jacob My servant, do not be afraid, and do not be dismayed, O Israel. For I will surely save you out of a distant place, your descendants from the land of their captivity! Jacob will return to quiet and ease, with no one to make him afraid.
Fear thou not, O Jacob my servant, saith the LORD: for I am with thee; for I will make a full end of all the nations
whither I have driven thee: but I will not make a full end of thee, but correct thee in measure; yet will I not leave thee wholly unpunished.
And you, My servant Jacob, do not be afraid, declares the LORD, for I am with you. Though I will completely destroy all the nations to which I have banished you, I will not completely destroy you. Yet I will discipline you justly, and will by no means leave you unpunished.”
Fear, and the pit, and the
snare, shall be upon thee, O inhabitant of Moab, saith the LORD.
Terror and pit and
snare await you, O dweller of Moab,” declares the LORD.
He that fleeth from the
fear shall fall into the pit; and he that getteth up out of the pit shall be taken in the
snare: for I will bring upon it, even upon Moab, the year of their
visitation, saith the LORD.
“
Whoever flees the
panic will fall into the pit, and
whoever climbs from the pit will be caught in the
snare. For I will bring upon Moab the year of their punishment,” declares the LORD.
Behold, I will bring a fear upon thee, saith the Lord GOD of hosts, from all those that be about thee; and ye shall be driven out every man right forth; and none shall gather up him that wandereth.
Behold, I am about to bring terror upon you, declares the Lord GOD of Hosts, from all those around you. You will each be driven
headlong, with no one to regather the fugitives.
Damascus is waxed feeble, and turneth herself to
flee, and
fear hath seized on her:
anguish and sorrows have taken her, as a woman in
travail.
Damascus has become feeble; she has turned to
flee.
Panic has gripped her;
anguish and pain have seized her like a woman in labor.
