Berean Standard Bible BSB Bible
And under their hand was an army, three hundred thousand and seven thousand and five hundred, that made war with mighty power, to help the king against the enemy.
Under their authority was an army of 307,500 trained for war, a powerful force to support the king against his enemies.
And Uzziah prepared
for them throughout all the host shields, and spears, and helmets, and habergeons, and bows, and
slings to cast stones.
Uzziah supplied the entire army with shields, spears, helmets,
armor, bows, and slingstones.
And he made in Jerusalem engines, invented by
cunning men, to be on the towers and upon the bulwarks, to shoot arrows and great stones
withal. And his name spread far abroad;
for he was marvellously helped, till he was strong.
And in Jerusalem he made
skillfully designed devices to shoot arrows and
catapult large stones from the towers and corners. So his fame spread far and wide,
for he was helped
tremendously so that he became powerful.
But when he was strong, his heart was lifted up to his destruction:
for he
transgressed against the LORD his God, and went into the temple of the LORD to burn incense upon the altar of incense.
But when Uzziah grew powerful, his
arrogance led to his own destruction. He was unfaithful to the LORD his God,
for he entered the temple of the LORD to burn incense on the altar of incense.
And they
withstood Uzziah the king, and said unto him, It appertaineth not unto thee, Uzziah, to burn incense unto the LORD, but to the priests the sons of Aaron, that are consecrated to burn incense: go out of the sanctuary;
for thou hast
trespassed; neither shall it be
for thine honour from the LORD God.
They took their stand against King Uzziah and said, “Uzziah, you have no right to offer incense to the LORD. Only the priests, the descendants of Aaron, are consecrated to burn incense. Leave the sanctuary, for you have acted unfaithfully; you will not receive honor from the LORD God.”
Then Uzziah was
wroth, and had a
censer in his hand to burn incense: and while he was
wroth with the priests, the
leprosy even rose up in his
forehead before the priests in the house of the LORD, from beside the incense altar.
Uzziah, with a
censer in his hand to offer incense, was
enraged. But while he
raged against the priests in their presence in the house of the LORD before the altar of incense,
leprosy broke out on his
forehead.
And
Azariah the chief priest, and all the priests, looked upon him, and, behold, he was
leprous in his
forehead, and they thrust him out from thence;
yea, himself hasted also to go out, because the LORD had
smitten him.
And Uzziah the king was a
leper unto the day of his death, and dwelt in a several house, being a
leper;
for he was cut off from the house of the LORD: and Jotham his son was over the king’s house, judging the people of the land.
So King Uzziah was a
leper until the day of his death. He lived in
isolation,
leprous and cut off from the house of the LORD, while his son Jotham had charge of the royal palace to
govern the people of the land.
Now the rest of the acts of Uzziah, first and last, did Isaiah the prophet, the son of Amoz, write.
As for the rest of the acts of Uzziah, from beginning to end, they are recorded by the prophet Isaiah son of Amoz.
So Uzziah
slept with his fathers, and they buried him with his fathers in the field of the burial which belonged to the kings;
for they said, He is a
leper: and Jotham his son reigned in his
stead.
And Uzziah rested with his fathers and was buried near them in a field of burial that belonged to the kings;
for the people said, “He was a
leper.” And his son Jotham reigned in his place.
Moreover he built cities in the mountains of Judah, and in the forests he built castles and towers.
He also built cities in the hill country of Judah and fortresses and towers in the forests.
Now the rest of the acts of Jotham, and all his wars, and his ways, lo, they are written in the book of the kings of Israel and Judah.
As for the rest of the acts of Jotham, along with all his wars and his ways, they are indeed written in the Book of the Kings of Israel and Judah.
For he walked in the ways of the kings of Israel, and made also
molten images
for Baalim.
Instead, he walked in the ways of the kings of Israel and even made cast images of the Baals.
Wherefore the LORD his God delivered him into the hand of the king of Syria; and they
smote him, and carried away a great multitude of them
captives, and brought them to Damascus. And he was also delivered into the hand of the king of Israel, who
smote him with a great slaughter.
So the LORD his God delivered
Ahaz into the hand of the king of
Aram, who attacked him and took many
captives to Damascus.
Ahaz was also delivered into the hand of the king of Israel, who struck him with great
force.
For Pekah the son of Remaliah
slew in Judah an hundred and twenty thousand in one day, which were all
valiant men; because they had
forsaken the LORD God of their fathers.
For in one day Pekah son of Remaliah killed 120,000
valiant men in Judah. This happened because they had
forsaken the LORD, the God of their fathers.
And now ye purpose to keep under the children of Judah and Jerusalem
for bondmen and
bondwomen unto you: but are there not with you, even with you, sins against the LORD your God?
And now you intend to reduce to slavery the men and women of Judah and Jerusalem. But are you not also guilty before the LORD your God?
Now hear me therefore, and deliver the
captives again, which ye have taken
captive of your brethren:
for the fierce wrath of the LORD is upon you.
Now therefore,
listen to me and return the
captives you took from your
kinsmen,
for the fierce anger of the LORD is upon you.”
And said unto them, Ye shall not bring in the
captives hither:
for whereas we have
offended against the LORD already, ye intend to add more to our sins and to our
trespass:
for our
trespass is great, and there is fierce wrath against Israel.
“You must not bring the
captives here,” they said, “
for you are
proposing to bring guilt upon us from the LORD and to add to our sins and our guilt.
For our guilt is great, and fierce anger is upon Israel.”
And the men which were expressed by name rose up, and took the
captives, and with the
spoil clothed all that were naked among them, and
arrayed them, and
shod them, and gave them to eat and to drink, and
anointed them, and carried all the feeble of them upon
asses, and brought them to
Jericho, the city of palm trees, to their brethren: then they returned to Samaria.
Then the men who were designated by name arose, took charge of the
captives, and provided from the
plunder clothing
for the naked. They clothed them, gave them
sandals and food and drink,
anointed their wounds, and put all the feeble on
donkeys. So they brought them to
Jericho, the City of Palms, to their brothers. Then they returned to Samaria.
At that time did king
Ahaz send unto the kings of Assyria to help him.
At that time King
Ahaz sent
for help from the king of Assyria.
For again the Edomites had come and
smitten Judah, and carried away
captives.
The Edomites had again come and attacked Judah and carried away
captives.
For the LORD brought Judah low because of
Ahaz king of Israel;
for he made Judah naked, and
transgressed sore against the LORD.
For the LORD humbled Judah because
Ahaz king of Israel had thrown off restraint in Judah and had been most unfaithful to the LORD.
For Ahaz took away a portion out of the house of the LORD, and out of the house of the king, and of the princes, and gave it unto the king of Assyria: but he helped him not.
Although
Ahaz had taken a portion from the house of the LORD, from the royal palace, and from the princes and had presented it to the king of Assyria, it did not help him.
For he sacrificed unto the gods of Damascus, which
smote him: and he said, Because the gods of the kings of Syria help them, therefore will I sacrifice to them, that they may help me. But they were the ruin of him, and of all Israel.
Since Damascus had defeated him, he sacrificed to their gods and said, “Because the gods of the kings of
Aram have helped them, I will sacrifice to them that they may help me.” But these gods were the
downfall of
Ahaz and of all Israel.
Now the rest of his acts and of all his ways, first and last, behold, they are written in the book of the kings of Judah and Israel.
As
for the rest of the acts of
Ahaz and all his ways, from beginning to end, they are indeed written in the Book of the Kings of Judah and Israel.
For our fathers have
trespassed, and done that which was evil in the eyes of the LORD our God, and have
forsaken him, and have turned away their faces from the
habitation of the LORD, and turned their backs.
For our fathers were unfaithful and did evil in the sight of the LORD our God. They abandoned Him, turned their faces away from the dwelling place of the LORD, and turned their backs on Him.
For, lo, our fathers have fallen by the sword, and our sons and our daughters and our wives are in captivity for this.
For behold, this is why our fathers have fallen by the sword, and our sons and daughters and wives are in captivity.
My sons, be not now
negligent:
for the LORD hath chosen you to stand before him, to serve him, and that ye should minister unto him, and burn incense.
Now, my sons, do not be
negligent,
for the LORD has chosen you to stand before Him, to serve Him, to minister before Him, and to burn incense.”
Now they began on the first day of the first month to
sanctify, and on the eighth day of the month came they to the
porch of the LORD: so they
sanctified the house of the LORD in eight days; and in the
sixteenth day of the first month they made an end.
They began the
consecration on the first day of the first month, and on the eighth day of the month they reached the
portico of the LORD.
For eight more days they consecrated the house of the LORD itself, finishing on the
sixteenth day of the first month.
And they brought seven bullocks, and seven rams, and seven lambs, and seven he goats, for a sin offering for the kingdom, and for the sanctuary, and for Judah. And he commanded the priests the sons of Aaron to offer them on the altar of the LORD.
They brought seven bulls, seven rams, seven lambs, and seven male goats as a sin offering for the kingdom, for the sanctuary, and for Judah. And the king commanded the priests, the descendants of Aaron, to offer them on the altar of the LORD.
And they brought forth the he goats for the sin offering before the king and the congregation; and they laid their hands upon them:
Then they brought the goats for the sin offering before the king and the assembly, who laid their hands on them.
And the priests killed them, and they made
reconciliation with their blood upon the altar, to make an
atonement for all Israel:
for the king commanded that the burnt offering and the sin offering should be made
for all Israel.
And the priests slaughtered the goats and put their blood on the altar
for a sin offering, to make
atonement for all Israel, because the king had ordered the burnt offering and the sin offering
for all Israel.
And he set the Levites in the house of the LORD with cymbals, with
psalteries, and with harps, according to the commandment of David, and of
Gad the king’s
seer, and
Nathan the prophet:
for so was the commandment of the LORD by his prophets.
Hezekiah stationed the Levites in the house of the LORD with cymbals, harps, and lyres according to the command of David, of
Gad the king’s
seer, and of
Nathan the prophet.
For the command had come from the LORD through His prophets.
And the number of the burnt offerings, which the congregation brought, was
threescore and ten bullocks, an hundred rams, and two hundred lambs: all these were
for a burnt offering to the LORD.
The number of burnt offerings the assembly brought was seventy bulls, a hundred rams, and two hundred lambs; all these were for a burnt offering to the LORD.
But the priests were too few, so that they could not
flay all the burnt offerings: wherefore their brethren the Levites did help them, till the work was ended, and until the other priests had
sanctified themselves:
for the Levites were more upright in heart to
sanctify themselves than the priests.
However, since there were not enough priests to skin all the burnt offerings, their
Levite brothers helped them until the work was finished and until the priests had been consecrated.
For the Levites had been more
diligent in
consecrating themselves than the priests had been.
And also the burnt offerings were in abundance, with the fat of the peace offerings, and the drink offerings for every burnt offering. So the service of the house of the LORD was set in order.
Furthermore, the burnt offerings were abundant, along with the fat of the peace offerings and the drink offerings
for the burnt offerings. So the service of the house of the LORD was established.
And
Hezekiah rejoiced, and all the people, that God had prepared the people:
for the thing was done suddenly.
Then
Hezekiah and all the people
rejoiced at what God had prepared
for the people, because everything had been accomplished so quickly.
For the king had taken counsel, and his princes, and all the congregation in Jerusalem, to keep the
passover in the second month.
For the king and his officials and the whole assembly in Jerusalem had decided to keep the
Passover in the second month,
For they could not keep it at that time, because the priests had not
sanctified themselves sufficiently, neither had the people gathered themselves together to Jerusalem.
since they had been unable to observe it at the regular time, because not enough priests had consecrated themselves and the people had not been gathered in Jerusalem.
So they established a decree to make
proclamation throughout all Israel, from Beer-
sheba even to
Dan, that they should come to keep the
passover unto the LORD God of Israel at Jerusalem:
for they had not done it of a long time in such sort as it was written.
So they established a decree to
circulate a
proclamation throughout Israel, from
Beersheba to
Dan, that the people should come to keep the
Passover of the LORD, the God of Israel, in Jerusalem.
For they had not observed it as a nation as prescribed.
Now be ye not stiffnecked, as your fathers were, but yield
yourselves unto the LORD, and enter into his sanctuary, which he hath
sanctified for ever: and serve the LORD your God, that the fierceness of his wrath may turn away from you.
Now do not
stiffen your necks as your fathers did. Submit to the LORD and come to His sanctuary, which He has consecrated
forever. Serve the LORD your God, so that His fierce anger will turn away from you.
For if ye turn again unto the LORD, your brethren and your children shall find
compassion before them that lead them
captive, so that they shall come again into this land:
for the LORD your God is
gracious and
merciful, and will not turn away his face from you, if ye return unto him.
For if you return to the LORD, your brothers and sons will receive mercy in the presence of their captors and will return to this land.
For the LORD your God is
gracious and
merciful; He will not turn His face away from you if you return to Him.”
And they arose and took away the altars that were in Jerusalem, and all the altars
for incense took they away, and cast them into the
brook Kidron.
They proceeded to remove the altars in Jerusalem and to take away the incense altars and throw them into the Kidron Valley.
For there were many in the congregation that were not
sanctified: therefore the Levites had the charge of the killing of the passovers
for every one that was not clean, to
sanctify them unto the LORD.
Since there were many in the assembly who had not consecrated themselves, the Levites were in charge of slaughtering the
Passover lambs
for every unclean person to
consecrate the lambs to the LORD.
And the children of Israel that were present at Jerusalem kept the feast of
unleavened bread seven days with great
gladness: and the Levites and the priests praised the LORD day by day, singing with loud instruments unto the LORD.
The Israelites who were present in Jerusalem celebrated the Feast of
Unleavened Bread
for seven days with great joy, and the Levites and priests praised the LORD day after day, accompanied by loud instruments of praise to the LORD.
And
Hezekiah spake
comfortably unto all the Levites that taught the good knowledge of the LORD: and they did eat throughout the feast seven days, offering peace offerings, and making confession to the LORD God of their fathers.
And
Hezekiah encouraged all the Levites who performed
skillfully before the LORD.
For seven days they
ate their assigned portion, sacrificing
fellowship offerings and giving
thanks to the LORD, the God of their fathers.
For Hezekiah king of Judah did give to the congregation a thousand bullocks and seven thousand sheep; and the princes gave to the congregation a thousand bullocks and ten thousand sheep: and a great number of priests
sanctified themselves.
For Hezekiah king of Judah contributed a thousand bulls and seven thousand sheep
for the assembly, and the officials contributed a thousand bulls and ten thousand sheep
for the assembly, and a great number of priests consecrated themselves.
And all the congregation of Judah, with the priests and the Levites, and all the congregation that came out of Israel, and the strangers that came out of the land of Israel, and that dwelt in Judah,
rejoiced.
Then the whole assembly of Judah
rejoiced along with the priests and Levites and the whole assembly that had come from Israel, including the
foreigners who had come from Israel and those who lived in Judah.
So there was great joy in Jerusalem: for since the time of Solomon the son of David king of Israel there was not the like in Jerusalem.
So there was great
rejoicing in Jerusalem,
for nothing like this had happened there since the days of Solomon son of David king of Israel.
And
Hezekiah appointed the courses of the priests and the Levites after their courses, every man according to his service, the priests and Levites
for burnt offerings and
for peace offerings, to minister, and to give
thanks, and to praise in the gates of the tents of the LORD.
Hezekiah reestablished the divisions of the priests and Levites—each of them according to their duties as priests or Levites—
for the burnt offerings and peace offerings,
for ministry,
for giving
thanks, and
for singing praises at the gates of the LORD’s dwelling.
He appointed also the king’s portion of his substance for the burnt offerings, to wit, for the morning and evening burnt offerings, and the burnt offerings for the sabbaths, and for the new moons, and for the set feasts, as it is written in the law of the LORD.
The king contributed from his own possessions for the regular morning and evening burnt offerings and for the burnt offerings on the Sabbaths, New Moons, and appointed feasts, as written in the Law of the LORD.
Moreover he commanded the people that dwelt in Jerusalem to give the portion of the priests and the Levites, that they might be encouraged in the law of the LORD.
Moreover, he commanded the people living in Jerusalem to make a contribution
for the priests and Levites so that they could
devote themselves to the Law of the LORD.
And
Azariah the chief priest of the house of
Zadok answered him, and said, Since the people began to bring the offerings into the house of the LORD, we have had enough to eat, and have left
plenty:
for the LORD hath blessed his people; and that which is left is this great store.
and
Azariah, the chief priest of the household of
Zadok, answered him, “Since the people began to bring their contributions into the house of the LORD, we have had enough to eat and there is
plenty left over, because the LORD has blessed His people; this great abundance is what is left over.”
Beside their
genealogy of males, from three years old and upward, even unto every one that entereth into the house of the LORD, his daily portion
for their service in their charges according to their courses;
In addition, they distributed portions to the males registered by
genealogy who were three years of age or older—to all who would enter the house of the LORD
for their daily duties
for service in the responsibilities of their divisions—
And to the
genealogy of all their little ones, their wives, and their sons, and their daughters, through all the congregation:
for in their set office they
sanctified themselves in
holiness:
The
genealogy included all the little ones, wives, sons, and daughters in the whole assembly.
For they had faithfully consecrated themselves as holy.
Also of the sons of Aaron the priests, which were in the fields of the suburbs of their cities, in every several city, the men that were expressed by name, to give portions to all the males among the priests, and to all that were reckoned by
genealogies among the Levites.
As
for the priests, the descendants of Aaron, who lived on the farmlands around each of their cities or in any other city, men were designated by name to distribute a portion to every male among the priests and to every
Levite listed by the
genealogies.
After these things, and the establishment thereof,
Sennacherib king of Assyria came, and entered into Judah, and
encamped against the
fenced cities, and thought to
win them
for himself.
After all these acts of faithfulness,
Sennacherib king of Assyria came and invaded Judah. He laid siege to the
fortified cities, intending to
conquer them
for himself.
Be strong and
courageous, be not afraid nor dismayed
for the king of Assyria, nor
for all the multitude that is with him:
for there be more with us than with him:
“Be strong and
courageous! Do not be afraid or discouraged before the king of Assyria and the vast army with him,
for there is a greater One with us than with him.
After this did
Sennacherib king of Assyria send his servants to Jerusalem, (but he himself laid siege against
Lachish, and all his power with him,) unto
Hezekiah king of Judah, and unto all Judah that were at Jerusalem, saying,
Later, as
Sennacherib king of Assyria and all his
forces besieged
Lachish, he sent his servants to Jerusalem with a message
for King
Hezekiah of Judah and all the people of Judah who were in Jerusalem:
Now therefore let not
Hezekiah deceive you, nor
persuade you on this manner, neither yet believe him:
for no god of any nation or kingdom was able to deliver his people out of mine hand, and out of the hand of my fathers: how much less shall your God deliver you out of mine hand?
So now, do not let
Hezekiah deceive you, and do not let him mislead you like this. Do not believe him,
for no god of any nation or kingdom has been able to deliver his people from my hand or from the hand of my fathers. How much less will your God deliver you from my hand!”
And
for this cause
Hezekiah the king, and the prophet Isaiah the son of Amoz, prayed and
cried to heaven.
And the LORD sent an angel, which cut off all the mighty men of valour, and the leaders and captains in the camp of the king of Assyria. So he returned with shame of face to his own land. And when he was come into the house of his god, they that came
forth of his own
bowels slew him there with the sword.
and the LORD sent an angel who
annihilated every mighty man of
valor and every leader and commander in the camp of the king of Assyria. So he withdrew to his own land in disgrace. And when he entered the temple of his god, some of his own sons struck him down with the sword.
And many brought gifts unto the LORD to Jerusalem, and presents to
Hezekiah king of Judah: so that he was
magnified in the sight of all nations from
thenceforth.
Many brought offerings to Jerusalem
for the LORD and valuable gifts
for Hezekiah king of Judah, and from then on he was
exalted in the eyes of all nations.
But
Hezekiah rendered not again according to the benefit done unto him;
for his heart was lifted up: therefore there was wrath upon him, and upon Judah and Jerusalem.
But because his heart was proud,
Hezekiah did not repay the favor shown to him. Therefore wrath came upon him and upon Judah and Jerusalem.
Notwithstanding
Hezekiah humbled himself
for the pride of his heart, both he and the inhabitants of Jerusalem, so that the wrath of the LORD came not upon them in the days of
Hezekiah.
Then
Hezekiah humbled the pride of his heart—he and the people of Jerusalem—so that the wrath of the LORD did not come upon them during the days of
Hezekiah.
And
Hezekiah had exceeding much riches and honour: and he made himself
treasuries for silver, and
for gold, and
for precious stones, and
for spices, and
for shields, and
for all manner of pleasant jewels;
Hezekiah had very great riches and honor, and he made
treasuries for his silver, gold, precious stones, spices, shields, and all kinds of valuable articles.
Storehouses also
for the increase of corn, and wine, and oil; and stalls
for all manner of beasts, and
cotes for flocks.
He also made storehouses
for the harvest of grain and new wine and oil, stalls
for all kinds of
livestock, and pens
for the flocks.
Moreover he provided him cities, and possessions of flocks and herds in abundance: for God had given him substance very much.
He made cities for himself, and he acquired herds of sheep and cattle in abundance, for God gave him very great wealth.
Now the rest of the acts of
Hezekiah, and his goodness, behold, they are written in the vision of Isaiah the prophet, the son of Amoz, and in the book of the kings of Judah and Israel.
As
for the rest of the acts of
Hezekiah and his deeds of loving devotion, they are indeed written in the vision of the prophet Isaiah son of Amoz in the Book of the Kings of Judah and Israel.
For he built again the high places which
Hezekiah his father had broken down, and he reared up altars
for Baalim, and made groves, and worshipped all the host of heaven, and served them.
For he rebuilt the high places that his father
Hezekiah had
torn down, and he raised up altars
for the Baals and made Asherah poles. And he worshiped and served all the host of heaven.
Also he built altars in the house of the LORD,
whereof the LORD had said, In Jerusalem shall my name be
for ever.
Manasseh also built altars in the house of the LORD, of which the LORD had said, “My Name will remain in Jerusalem
forever.”
And he built altars for all the host of heaven in the two courts of the house of the LORD.
In both courtyards of the house of the LORD, he built altars to all the host of heaven.
And he set a carved image, the
idol which he had made, in the house of God, of which God had said to David and to Solomon his son, In this house, and in Jerusalem, which I have chosen before all the tribes of Israel, will I put my name
for ever:
Manasseh even took the carved image he had made and set it up in the house of God, of which God had said to David and his son Solomon, “In this temple and in Jerusalem, which I have chosen out of all the tribes of Israel, I will establish My Name
forever.
Neither will I any more remove the foot of Israel from out of the land which I have appointed
for your fathers; so that they will take
heed to do all that I have commanded them, according to the whole law and the statutes and the ordinances by the hand of Moses.
I will never again cause the feet of the Israelites to leave the land that I assigned to your fathers, if only they are careful to do all that I have commanded them through Moses—all the laws, statutes, and judgments.”
Now after this he built a wall without the city of David, on the west side of
Gihon, in the valley, even to the entering in at the fish gate, and compassed about Ophel, and raised it up a very great height, and put captains of war in all the
fenced cities of Judah.
After this,
Manasseh rebuilt the outer wall of the City of David from west of
Gihon in the valley to the entrance of the Fish Gate, and he brought it around the hill of Ophel and
heightened it considerably. He also stationed military commanders in all the
fortified cities of Judah.
And he took away the strange gods, and the
idol out of the house of the LORD, and all the altars that he had built in the mount of the house of the LORD, and in Jerusalem, and cast them out of the city.
He removed the
foreign gods and the
idol from the house of the LORD, along with all the altars he had built on the temple mount and in Jerusalem, and he
dumped them outside the city.
Now the rest of the acts of
Manasseh, and his prayer unto his God, and the words of the seers that spake to him in the name of the LORD God of Israel, behold, they are written in the book of the kings of Israel.
As
for the rest of the acts of
Manasseh, along with his prayer to his God and the words of the seers who spoke to him in the name of the LORD, the God of Israel, they are indeed written in the Chronicles of the Kings of Israel.
But he did that which was evil in the sight of the LORD, as did
Manasseh his father:
for Amon sacrificed unto all the carved images which
Manasseh his father had made, and served them;
And he did evil in the sight of the LORD, as his father
Manasseh had done. Amon served and sacrificed to all the idols that his father
Manasseh had made,
For in the eighth year of his reign, while he was yet young, he began to seek after the God of David his father: and in the
twelfth year he began to
purge Judah and Jerusalem from the high places, and the groves, and the carved images, and the
molten images.
In the eighth year of his reign, while he was still young,
Josiah began to seek the God of his father David, and in the
twelfth year he began to
cleanse Judah and Jerusalem of the high places, the Asherah poles, the carved idols, and the cast images.
Even to the artificers and builders gave they it, to
buy hewn stone, and timber
for couplings, and to floor the houses which the kings of Judah had destroyed.
They also gave money to the carpenters and builders to
buy dressed stone, as well as timbers
for couplings and beams
for the buildings that the kings of Judah had allowed to
deteriorate.
And the men did the work faithfully: and the overseers of them were Jahath and
Obadiah, the Levites, of the sons of Merari; and
Zechariah and Meshullam, of the sons of the Kohathites, to set it
forward; and other of the Levites, all that could skill of instruments of musick.
And the men did the work faithfully. The Levites overseeing them were Jahath and
Obadiah, descendants of Merari, and
Zechariah and Meshullam, descendants of
Kohath. Other Levites, all skilled with musical instruments,
Go,
enquire of the LORD
for me, and
for them that are left in Israel and in Judah, concerning the words of the book that is found:
for great is the wrath of the LORD that is poured out upon us, because our fathers have not kept the word of the LORD, to do after all that is written in this book.
“Go and inquire of the LORD for me and for those remaining in Israel and Judah concerning the words in the book that has been found. For great is the wrath of the LORD that has been poured out on us because our fathers have not kept the word of the LORD by doing all that is written in this book.”
Because they have
forsaken me, and have burned incense unto other gods, that they might
provoke me to anger with all the works of their hands; therefore my wrath shall be poured out upon this place, and shall not be
quenched.
because they have
forsaken Me and burned incense to other gods, that they might
provoke Me to anger with all the works of their hands. My wrath will be poured out upon this place and will not be
quenched.’
And as
for the king of Judah, who sent you to
enquire of the LORD, so shall ye say unto him, Thus saith the LORD God of Israel concerning the words which thou hast heard;
But as for the king of Judah, who sent you to inquire of the LORD, tell him that this is what the LORD, the God of Israel, says: ‘As for the words that you heard,
So kill the
passover, and
sanctify yourselves, and prepare your brethren, that they may do according to the word of the LORD by the hand of Moses.
Slaughter the
Passover lambs,
consecrate yourselves, and make preparations
for your fellow countrymen to carry out the word of the LORD given by Moses.”
And
Josiah gave to the people, of the flock, lambs and kids, all
for the
passover offerings,
for all that were present, to the number of thirty thousand, and three thousand bullocks: these were of the king’s substance.
From his own flocks and herds
Josiah contributed 30,000 lambs and goats
plus 3,000 bulls
for the
Passover offerings
for all the people who were present.
And his princes gave willingly unto the people, to the priests, and to the Levites: Hilkiah and
Zechariah and Jehiel, rulers of the house of God, gave unto the priests
for the
passover offerings two thousand and six hundred small cattle, and three hundred oxen.
His officials also contributed willingly to the people and priests and Levites. Hilkiah,
Zechariah, and Jehiel, the administrators of the house of God, gave the priests 2,600
Passover offerings and 300 bulls.
Conaniah also, and Shemaiah and Nethaneel, his brethren, and Hashabiah and Jeiel and Jozabad, chief of the Levites, gave unto the Levites
for passover offerings five thousand small cattle, and five hundred oxen.
Additionally, Conaniah and his brothers Shemaiah and Nethanel, as well as Hashabiah, Jeiel, and Jozabad, officers of the Levites,
donated to the Levites 5,000
Passover offerings and 500 bulls.
And afterward they made ready
for themselves, and
for the priests: because the priests the sons of Aaron were
busied in offering of burnt offerings and the fat until night; therefore the Levites prepared
for themselves, and
for the priests the sons of Aaron.
Afterward, they made preparations
for themselves and
for the priests, since the priests, the descendants of Aaron, were offering up burnt offerings and fat until
nightfall. So the Levites made preparations
for themselves and
for the priests, the descendants of Aaron.
And the singers the sons of
Asaph were in their place, according to the commandment of David, and
Asaph, and Heman, and
Jeduthun the king’s
seer; and the
porters waited at every gate; they might not depart from their service;
for their brethren the Levites prepared
for them.
The singers, the descendants of
Asaph, were at their stations according to the command of David,
Asaph, Heman, and
Jeduthun the king’s
seer. And the gatekeepers at each gate did not need to leave their position, because their fellow Levites made preparations
for them.
So all the service of the LORD was prepared the same day, to keep the
passover, and to offer burnt offerings upon the altar of the LORD, according to the commandment of king
Josiah.
So on that day the entire service of the LORD was carried out
for celebrating the
Passover and offering burnt offerings on the altar of the LORD, according to the command of King
Josiah.
And the children of Israel that were present kept the
passover at that time, and the feast of
unleavened bread seven days.
The Israelites who were present also observed the
Passover at that time, as well as the Feast of
Unleavened Bread
for seven days.
But he sent ambassadors to him, saying, What have I to do with thee, thou king of Judah? I come not against thee this day, but against the house
wherewith I have war:
for God commanded me to make
haste:
forbear thee from
meddling with God, who is with me, that he destroy thee not.
But Neco sent messengers to him, saying, “What is the issue between you and me, O king of Judah? I have not come against you
today, but I am fighting another dynasty. God told me to
hurry; so stop
opposing God, who is with me, or He will destroy you!”
And the archers shot at king
Josiah; and the king said to his servants, Have me away;
for I am
sore wounded.
There the archers shot King
Josiah, who said to his servants, “Take me away,
for I am badly wounded!”
His servants therefore took him out of that
chariot, and put him in the second
chariot that he had; and they brought him to Jerusalem, and he died, and was buried in one of the
sepulchres of his fathers. And all Judah and Jerusalem
mourned for Josiah.
So his servants took him out of his
chariot, put him in his second
chariot, and brought him to Jerusalem, where he died. And
Josiah was buried in the tomb of his fathers, and all Judah and Jerusalem
mourned for him.
Then Jeremiah
lamented over
Josiah, and to this day all the choirs of men and women sing laments over
Josiah. They established them as a statute
for Israel, and indeed they are written in the Book of Laments.
Now the rest of the acts of
Josiah, and his goodness, according to that which was written in the law of the LORD,
As
for the rest of the acts of
Josiah, along with his deeds of loving devotion according to what is written in the Law of the LORD—
Now the rest of the acts of
Jehoiakim, and his abominations which he did, and that which was found in him, behold, they are written in the book of the kings of Israel and Judah: and
Jehoiachin his son reigned in his
stead.
As
for the rest of the acts of
Jehoiakim, the abominations he committed, and all that was found against him, they are indeed written in the Book of the Kings of Israel and Judah. And his son
Jehoiachin reigned in his place.
