And God said, Let the earth bring forth
grass, the
herb yielding seed, and the fruit tree yielding fruit after his kind, whose seed is in itself, upon the earth: and it was so.
Then God said, “Let the earth bring forth vegetation: seed-bearing plants and fruit trees, each bearing fruit with seed according to its kind.” And it was so.
And the earth brought forth
grass, and
herb yielding seed after his kind, and the tree yielding fruit, whose seed was in itself, after his kind: and God saw that it was good.
The earth produced vegetation: seed-bearing plants according to their kinds and trees bearing fruit with seed according to their kinds. And God saw that it was good.
And there we saw the giants, the sons of
Anak, which come of the giants: and we were in our own sight as
grasshoppers, and so we were in their sight.
We even saw the
Nephilim there—the descendants of
Anak that come from the
Nephilim! We seemed like
grasshoppers in our own sight, and we must have seemed the same to them!”
And Moab said unto the elders of
Midian, Now shall this company
lick up all that are round about us, as the ox licketh up the
grass of the field. And Balak the son of Zippor was king of the Moabites at that time.
So the Moabites said to the elders of
Midian, “This
horde will
devour everything around us, as an ox licks up the
grass of the field.” Since Balak son of Zippor was king of Moab at that time,
And I will send grass in thy fields for thy cattle, that thou mayest eat and be full.
And I will provide
grass in the fields for your
livestock, and you will eat and be satisfied.
And that the whole land thereof is
brimstone, and salt, and burning, that it is not sown, nor beareth, nor any
grass groweth therein, like the overthrow of
Sodom, and
Gomorrah, Admah, and
Zeboim, which the LORD overthrew in his anger, and in his wrath:
All its soil will be a burning waste of sulfur and salt, unsown and unproductive, with no plant growing on it, just like the destruction of
Sodom and
Gomorrah, Admah and Zeboiim, which the LORD overthrew in His fierce anger.
My doctrine shall drop as the rain, my speech shall
distil as the
dew, as the small rain upon the tender
herb, and as the showers upon the
grass:
Let my teaching fall like rain and my speech settle like
dew, like gentle rain on new
grass, like showers on tender plants.
For they came up with their cattle and their tents, and they came as grasshoppers for multitude; for both they and their camels were without number: and they entered into the land to destroy it.
For the Midianites came with their
livestock and their tents like a great
swarm of locusts. They and their camels were innumerable, and they entered the land to
ravage it.
And the Midianites and the
Amalekites and all the children of the east lay along in the valley like
grasshoppers for multitude; and their camels were without number, as the sand by the sea side for multitude.
Now the Midianites,
Amalekites, and all the other people of the east had settled in the valley like a
swarm of locusts, and their camels were as countless as the sand on the
seashore.
And he shall be as the light of the morning, when the sun riseth, even a morning without clouds; as the tender
grass springing out of the earth by clear
shining after rain.
When famine or plague comes upon the land, or
blight or
mildew or locusts or
grasshoppers, or when their enemy besieges them in their cities, whatever plague or sickness may come,
And
Ahab said unto
Obadiah, Go into the land, unto all fountains of water, and unto all
brooks:
peradventure we may find
grass to save the horses and mules alive, that we lose not all the beasts.
Then
Ahab said to
Obadiah, “Go throughout the land to every spring and every valley. Perhaps we will find
grass to keep the horses and mules alive so that we will not have to destroy any
livestock.”
Therefore their inhabitants were of small power, they were dismayed and confounded; they were as the
grass of the field, and as the green
herb, as the
grass on the house tops, and as corn blasted before it be grown up.
Therefore their inhabitants, devoid of power, are dismayed and
ashamed. They are like plants in the field, tender green shoots,
grass on the rooftops,
scorched before it is grown.
When famine or plague comes upon the land, or
blight or
mildew or locusts or
grasshoppers, or when their enemies
besiege them in their cities, whatever plague or sickness may come,
Thou shalt know also that thy seed shall be great, and thine offspring as the grass of the earth.
You will know that your offspring will be many, your descendants like the grass of the earth.
Whilst it is yet in his greenness, and not cut down, it withereth before any other
herb.
While the shoots are still uncut, they dry up quicker than grass.
To satisfy the
desolate and waste ground; and to cause the
bud of the tender
herb to spring forth?
to satisfy the
parched wasteland and make it
sprout with tender
grass?
Canst thou make him afraid as a
grasshopper? the glory of his nostrils is terrible.
Behold now
behemoth, which I made with thee; he eateth
grass as an ox.
Look at
Behemoth, which I made along with you. He feeds on
grass like an ox.
For they shall soon be cut down like the
grass, and wither as the green
herb.
For they wither quickly like
grass and
wilt like tender plants.
He shall come down like rain upon the
mown grass: as showers that water the earth.
May he be like rain that falls on freshly cut grass, like spring showers that water the earth.
There shall be an handful of corn in the earth upon the top of the mountains; the fruit thereof shall
shake like
Lebanon: and they of the city shall
flourish like
grass of the earth.
May there be an abundance of grain in the land; may it
sway atop the hills. May its fruit trees
flourish like the forests of
Lebanon, and its people like the
grass of the field.
He gave also their increase unto the caterpiller, and their labour unto the
locust.
Thou carriest them away as with a flood; they are as a sleep: in the morning they are like grass which groweth up.
You
whisk them away in their sleep; they are like the new
grass of the morning—
When the wicked spring as the
grass, and when all the workers of iniquity do
flourish; it is that they shall be destroyed for ever:
My days are like a shadow that declineth; and I am
withered like
grass.
My days are like
lengthening shadows, and I wither away like
grass.
As for man, his days are as grass: as a flower of the field, so he flourisheth.
As for man, his days are like grass— he blooms like a flower of the field;
He causeth the
grass to grow for the cattle, and
herb for the service of man: that he may bring forth food out of the earth;
He makes the
grass grow for the
livestock and provides crops for man to
cultivate, bringing forth food from the earth:
Thus they changed their glory into the
similitude of an ox that eateth
grass.
They exchanged their Glory for the image of a grass-eating ox.
Let them be as the
grass upon the housetops, which withereth
afore it groweth up:
May they be like
grass on the rooftops, which
withers before it can grow,
Who covereth the heaven with clouds, who prepareth rain for the earth, who maketh grass to grow upon the mountains.
who covers the sky with clouds, who prepares rain for the earth, who makes grass to grow on the hills.
The king’s wrath is as the
roaring of a lion; but his favour is as
dew upon the
grass.
A king’s
rage is like the
roar of a lion, but his favor is like
dew on the
grass.
The hay appeareth, and the tender grass sheweth itself, and herbs of the mountains are gathered.
When hay is removed and new growth appears and the grain from the hills is gathered,
Also when they shall be afraid of that which is high, and fears shall be in the way, and the
almond tree shall
flourish, and the
grasshopper shall be a burden, and desire shall fail: because man goeth to his long home, and the mourners go about the streets:
when men fear the heights and dangers of the road, when the
almond tree blossoms, the
grasshopper loses its spring, and the caper
berry shrivels— for then man goes to his eternal home and mourners walk the streets.
Behold, thou art fair, my beloved,
yea, pleasant: also our bed is green.
How handsome you are, my beloved! Oh, how delightful! The soft grass is our bed.
Therefore as the fire devoureth the
stubble, and the flame consumeth the
chaff, so their root shall be as
rottenness, and their
blossom shall go up as dust: because they have cast away the law of the LORD of hosts, and
despised the word of the Holy One of Israel.
Therefore, as a tongue of fire consumes the straw, and as dry
grass shrivels in the flame, so their roots will decay and their blossoms will blow away like dust; for they have rejected the instruction of the LORD of Hosts and
despised the word of the Holy One of Israel.
For the waters of Nimrim shall be
desolate: for the hay is
withered away, the
grass faileth, there is no green thing.
The waters of Nimrim are dried up, and the
grass is
withered; the vegetation is gone, and the
greenery is no more.
The
parched ground will become a
pool, the
thirsty land springs of water. In the
haunt where jackals once lay, there will be
grass and reeds and
papyrus.
Therefore their inhabitants were of small power, they were dismayed and confounded: they were as the
grass of the field, and as the green
herb, as the
grass on the housetops, and as corn blasted before it be grown up.
Therefore their inhabitants, devoid of power, are dismayed and
ashamed. They are like plants in the field, tender green shoots,
grass on the rooftops,
scorched before it is grown.
The voice said, Cry. And he said, What shall I cry? All flesh is
grass, and all the
goodliness thereof is as the flower of the field:
A voice says, “Cry out!” And I asked, “What should I cry out?” “All flesh is like grass, and all its glory like the flowers of the field.
The grass withereth, the flower fadeth: because the spirit of the LORD bloweth upon it: surely the people is grass.
The
grass withers and the flowers fall when the breath of the LORD blows on them; indeed, the people are
grass.
The grass withereth, the flower fadeth: but the word of our God shall stand for ever.
The
grass withers and the flowers fall, but the word of our God stands
forever.”
It is he that sitteth upon the circle of the earth, and the inhabitants thereof are as
grasshoppers; that stretcheth out the heavens as a
curtain, and spreadeth them out as a tent to dwell in:
He sits enthroned above the circle of the earth; its dwellers are like
grasshoppers. He stretches out the heavens like a
curtain, and spreads them out like a tent to dwell in.
And they shall spring up as among the grass, as willows by the water courses.
They will
sprout among the
grass like willows by flowing streams.
I, even I, am he that comforteth you: who art thou, that thou shouldest be afraid of a man that shall die, and of the son of man which shall be made as grass;
“I, even I, am He who comforts you. Why should you be afraid of
mortal man, of a son of man who
withers like
grass?
And when ye see this, your heart shall
rejoice, and your bones shall
flourish like an
herb: and the hand of the LORD shall be known toward his servants, and his
indignation toward his enemies.
When you see, you will
rejoice, and you will
flourish like
grass; then the hand of the LORD will be revealed to His servants, but His wrath will be shown to His enemies.
How long shall the land
mourn, and the herbs of every field wither, for the wickedness of them that dwell therein? the beasts are consumed, and the birds; because they said, He shall not see our last end.
How long will the land
mourn and the
grass of every field be
withered? Because of the evil of its residents, the animals and birds have been swept away, for the people have said, “He cannot see what our end will be.”
Yea, the hind also
calved in the field, and
forsook it, because there was no
grass.
Even the
doe in the field deserts her
newborn fawn because there is no
grass.
And the wild
asses did stand in the high places, they
snuffed up the wind like
dragons; their eyes did fail, because there was no
grass.
Wild
donkeys stand on barren heights; they
pant for air like jackals; their eyes fail for lack of pasture.”
They shall cut down her forest, saith the LORD, though it cannot be searched; because they are more than the grasshoppers, and are innumerable.
They will
chop down her forest, declares the LORD, dense though it may be, for they are more numerous than locusts; they cannot be counted.
Nevertheless leave the
stump of his roots in the earth, even with a band of iron and brass, in the tender
grass of the field; and let it be wet with the
dew of heaven, and let his portion be with the beasts in the
grass of the earth:
But leave the
stump with its roots in the ground, and a band of iron and bronze around it, in the tender
grass of the field. Let him be
drenched with the
dew of heaven and
graze with the beasts on the
grass of the earth.
And whereas the king saw a watcher and an holy one coming down from heaven, and saying,
Hew the tree down, and destroy it; yet leave the
stump of the roots thereof in the earth, even with a band of iron and brass, in the tender
grass of the field; and let it be wet with the
dew of heaven, and let his portion be with the beasts of the field, till seven times pass over him;
And you, O king, saw a watcher, a holy one, coming down from heaven and saying: ‘Cut down the tree and destroy it, but leave the
stump with its roots in the ground, and a band of iron and bronze around it, in the tender
grass of the field. Let him be
drenched with the
dew of heaven, and
graze with the beasts of the field till seven times pass him by.’
That they shall drive thee from men, and thy dwelling shall be with the beasts of the field, and they shall make thee to eat
grass as oxen, and they shall wet thee with the
dew of heaven, and seven times shall pass over thee, till thou know that the most High ruleth in the kingdom of men, and giveth it to
whomsoever he will.
You will be driven away from mankind, and your dwelling will be with the beasts of the field. You will feed on
grass like an ox and be
drenched with the
dew of heaven, and seven times shall pass you by, until you acknowledge that the Most High rules over the kingdom of mankind and gives it to whom He wishes.
And they shall drive thee from men, and thy dwelling shall be with the beasts of the field: they shall make thee to eat
grass as oxen, and seven times shall pass over thee, until thou know that the most High ruleth in the kingdom of men, and giveth it to
whomsoever he will.
You will be driven away from mankind to live with the beasts of the field, and you will feed on grass like an ox. And seven times will pass you by, until you acknowledge that the Most High rules over the kingdom of mankind and gives it to whom He wishes.”
The same hour was the thing fulfilled upon
Nebuchadnezzar: and he was driven from men, and did eat
grass as oxen, and his body was wet with the
dew of heaven, till his hairs were grown like eagles feathers, and his
nails like birds’ claws.
At that moment the sentence against
Nebuchadnezzar was fulfilled. He was driven away from mankind. He
ate grass like an ox, and his body was
drenched with the
dew of heaven, until his hair grew like the feathers of an eagle and his
nails like the claws of a bird.
And he was driven from the sons of men; and his heart was made like the beasts, and his dwelling was with the wild
asses: they fed him with
grass like oxen, and his body was wet with the
dew of heaven; till he knew that the most high God ruled in the kingdom of men, and that he appointeth over it
whomsoever he will.
He was driven away from mankind, and his mind was like that of a beast. He lived with the wild
donkeys and
ate grass like an ox, and his body was
drenched with the
dew of heaven until he acknowledged that the Most High God rules over the kingdom of mankind, setting over it whom He wishes.
Thus hath the Lord GOD shewed unto me; and, behold, he formed grasshoppers in the beginning of the shooting up of the latter growth; and, lo, it was the latter growth after the king’s mowings.
This is what the Lord GOD showed me: He was preparing swarms of locusts just after the king’s harvest, as the late spring crop was coming up.
And it came to pass, that when they had made an end of eating the
grass of the land, then I said, O Lord GOD,
forgive, I
beseech thee: by whom shall Jacob arise? for he is small.
And when the locusts had eaten every green plant in the land, I said, “Lord GOD, please
forgive! How will Jacob
survive, since he is so small?”
And the
remnant of Jacob shall be in the midst of many people as a
dew from the LORD, as the showers upon the
grass, that tarrieth not for man, nor waiteth for the sons of men.
Then the
remnant of Jacob will be in the midst of many peoples like
dew from the LORD, like showers on the
grass, which do not wait for man or
linger for mankind.
Thy crowned are as the locusts, and thy captains as the great
grasshoppers, which camp in the hedges in the cold day, but when the sun ariseth they
flee away, and their place is not known where they are.
Your guards are like the
swarming locust, and your
scribes like clouds of locusts that settle on the walls on a cold day. When the sun rises, they fly away, and no one knows where.
Ask ye of the LORD rain in the time of the latter rain; so the LORD shall make bright clouds, and give them showers of rain, to every one grass in the field.
Ask the LORD for rain in
springtime; the LORD makes the storm clouds, and He will give
everyone showers of rain and crops in the field.
Wherefore, if God so
clothe the
grass of the field, which to day is, and to
morrow is cast into the
oven, shall he not much more
clothe you, O ye of little faith?
If that is how God clothes the
grass of the field, which is here
today and
tomorrow is thrown into the furnace, will He not much more
clothe you, O you of little faith?
And he commanded the multitude to sit down on the
grass, and took the five
loaves, and the two fishes, and looking up to heaven, he blessed, and
brake, and gave the
loaves to his disciples, and the disciples to the multitude.
And He directed the crowds to sit down on the
grass. Taking the five
loaves and the two fish and looking up to heaven, He spoke a blessing. Then He broke the
loaves and gave them to the disciples, and the disciples gave them to the people.
And he commanded them to make all sit down by companies upon the green grass.
Then Jesus directed them to have the people sit in groups on the green grass.
If then God so
clothe the
grass, which is to day in the field, and to
morrow is cast into the
oven; how much more will he
clothe you, O ye of little faith?
If that is how God clothes the
grass of the field, which is here
today and
tomorrow is thrown into the furnace, how much more will He
clothe you, O you of little faith!
And Jesus said, Make the men sit down. Now there was much grass in the place. So the men sat down, in number about five thousand.
“Have the people sit down,” Jesus said. Now there was
plenty of
grass in that place, so the men sat down, about five thousand of them.
But the rich, in that he is made low: because as the flower of the grass he shall pass away.
But the one who is rich should
exult in his low position, because he will pass away like a flower of the field.
For the sun is no sooner risen with a burning heat, but it withereth the
grass, and the flower thereof falleth, and the grace of the fashion of it perisheth: so also shall the rich man
fade away in his ways.
For the sun rises with
scorching heat and
withers the plant; its flower falls and its beauty is lost. So too, the rich man will
fade away in the midst of his pursuits.
For all flesh is as grass, and all the glory of man as the flower of grass. The grass withereth, and the flower thereof falleth away:
For, “All flesh is like
grass, and all its glory like the flowers of the field; the
grass withers and the flowers fall,
The first angel sounded, and there followed
hail and fire mingled with blood, and they were cast upon the earth: and the third part of trees was burnt up, and all green
grass was burnt up.
Then the first angel sounded his
trumpet, and
hail and fire mixed with blood were
hurled down upon the earth. A third of the earth was burned up, along with a third of the trees and all the green
grass.
And it was commanded them that they should not
hurt the
grass of the earth, neither any green thing, neither any tree; but only those men which have not the seal of God in their foreheads.
They were told not to
harm the
grass of the earth or any plant or tree, but only those who did not have the seal of God on their foreheads.
And we pass away out of the world as
grasshoppers, and our life is
astonishment and fear, and we are not worthy to obtain mercy.
After seven days I sat upon the
grass, and my heart was
vexed within me, like as before:
And they shall break down the cities and walls, mountains and hills, trees of the wood, and grass of the meadows, and their corn.
For them the bitings of
grasshoppers and
flies killed, neither was there found any remedy for their life: for they were worthy to be punished by such.
The
weed growing upon every water and bank of a river shall be pulled up before all
grass.
The noise of the
thunder maketh the earth to
tremble: so
doth the northern storm and the
whirlwind: as birds flying he scattereth the snow, and the falling down thereof is as the lighting of
grasshoppers:
It devoureth the mountains, and burneth the wilderness, and consumeth the grass as fire.
