handmaid for a daughter of
Belial: for out of the abundance of my

anguish and
grief.”
That this shall be no
grief unto thee, nor offence of heart unto my lord, either that thou hast shed blood causeless, or that my lord hath
avenged himself: but when the LORD shall have dealt well with my lord, then remember thine
handmaid.

remorse or guilt of conscience over needless
bloodshed and
revenge. And when the LORD has dealt well with my lord, may you remember your
maidservant.”

supplication soever shall be made of any man, or of all thy people Israel, when every one shall know his own

asswage your
grief.

despised and rejected of men; a man of sorrows, and acquainted with
grief: and we
hid as it were our faces from him; he was
despised, and we esteemed him not.

Mine eyes do fail with tears, my
bowels are troubled, my liver is poured upon the earth, for the destruction of the daughter of my people; because the children and the sucklings

sad, whom I have not made
sad; and strengthened the hands of the wicked, that he should not return from his wicked way, by promising him life:

grief, and because you have encouraged the wicked not to turn from their evil ways to save their lives,

How much she hath
glorified herself, and lived
deliciously, so much
torment and sorrow give her: for she saith in her heart, I sit a queen, and am no widow, and shall see no sorrow.
As much as she has
glorified herself and lived in
luxury, give her the same measure of
torment and
grief. In her heart she says, ‘I sit as queen; I am not a widow and will never see
grief.’
Therefore shall her plagues come in one day, death, and
mourning, and famine; and she shall be utterly burned with fire: for strong is the Lord God who judgeth her.
