And when thy son asketh thee in time to come, saying, What mean the
testimonies, and the statutes, and the judgments, which the LORD our God
hath commanded you?
In the future, when your son asks, “What is the meaning of the decrees and statutes and ordinances that the LORD our God has commanded you?”
And it shall be our righteousness, if we observe to do all these commandments before the LORD our God, as he hath commanded us.
And if we are careful to observe every one of these commandments before the LORD our God, as He has commanded us, then that will be our righteousness.”
When the LORD thy God shall bring thee into the land
whither thou goest to possess it, and
hath cast out many nations before thee, the
Hittites, and the Girgashites, and the
Amorites, and the
Canaanites, and the
Perizzites, and the
Hivites, and the Jebusites, seven nations greater and mightier than thou;
When the LORD your God brings you into the land that you are entering to possess, and He drives out before you many nations—the
Hittites, Girgashites,
Amorites,
Canaanites,
Perizzites,
Hivites, and Jebusites, seven nations larger and stronger than you—
For thou art an holy people unto the LORD thy God: the LORD thy God hath chosen thee to be a special people unto himself, above all people that are upon the face of the earth.
For you are a people holy to the LORD your God. The LORD your God has chosen you to be a people for His prized possession out of all peoples on the face of the earth.
But because the LORD loved you, and because he would keep the oath which he had
sworn unto your fathers,
hath the LORD brought you out with a mighty hand, and redeemed you out of the house of
bondmen, from the hand of Pharaoh king of Egypt.
But because the LORD loved you and kept the oath He
swore to your fathers, He brought you out with a mighty hand and redeemed you from the house of slavery, from the hand of Pharaoh king of Egypt.
And repayeth them that
hate him to their face, to destroy them: he will not be
slack to him that
hateth him, he will repay him to his face.
But those who
hate Him He repays to their faces with destruction; He will not
hesitate to repay to his face the one who
hates Him.
And the LORD will take away from thee all sickness, and will put none of the evil diseases of Egypt, which thou knowest, upon thee; but will lay them upon all them that
hate thee.
And the LORD will remove from you all sickness. He will not lay upon you any of the terrible diseases you knew in Egypt, but He will
inflict them on all who
hate you.
When thou hast eaten and art full, then thou shalt
bless the LORD thy God for the good land which he
hath given thee.
When you eat and are satisfied, you are to
bless the LORD your God for the good land that He has given you.
And thou say in thine heart, My power and the might of mine hand
hath gotten me this wealth.
You might say in your heart, “The power and strength of my hands have made this wealth for me.”
Understand therefore this day, that the LORD thy God is he which goeth over before thee; as a
consuming fire he shall destroy them, and he shall bring them down before thy face: so shalt thou drive them out, and destroy them quickly, as the LORD
hath said unto thee.
But understand that
today the LORD your God goes across
ahead of you as a
consuming fire; He will destroy them and
subdue them before you. And you will drive them out and
annihilate them swiftly, as the LORD has promised you.
Speak not thou in thine heart, after that the LORD thy God
hath cast them out from before thee, saying, For my righteousness the LORD
hath brought me in to possess this land: but for the wickedness of these nations the LORD
doth drive them out from before thee.
When the LORD your God has driven them out before you, do not say in your heart, “Because of my righteousness the LORD has brought me in to possess this land.” Rather, the LORD is driving out these nations before you because of their wickedness.
And at Taberah, and at Massah, and at
Kibroth-
hattaavah, ye
provoked the LORD to wrath.
You continued to
provoke the LORD at Taberah, at Massah, and at
Kibroth-
hattaavah.
Lest the land whence thou broughtest us out say, Because the LORD was not able to bring them into the land which he promised them, and because he
hated them, he
hath brought them out to
slay them in the wilderness.
Otherwise, those in the land from which You brought us out will say, ‘Because the LORD was not able to bring them into the land He had promised them, and because He
hated them, He has brought them out to kill them in the wilderness.’
Wherefore Levi hath no part nor inheritance with his brethren; the LORD is his inheritance, according as the LORD thy God promised him.
That is why Levi has no portion or inheritance among his brothers; the LORD is his inheritance, as the LORD your God promised him.
He is thy praise, and he is thy God, that hath done for thee these great and terrible things, which thine eyes have seen.
He is your praise and He is your God, who has done for you these great and
awesome wonders that your eyes have seen.
Thy fathers went down into Egypt with
threescore and ten persons; and now the LORD thy God
hath made thee as the stars of heaven for multitude.
Your fathers went down to Egypt, seventy in all, and now the LORD your God has made you as numerous as the stars in the sky.
And what he did unto the army of Egypt, unto their horses, and to their
chariots; how he made the water of the Red sea to overflow them as they pursued after you, and how the LORD
hath destroyed them unto this day;
what He did to the Egyptian army and horses and
chariots when He made the waters of the Red Sea
engulf them as they pursued you, and how He destroyed them completely, even to this day;
There shall no man be able to stand before you: for the LORD your God shall lay the fear of you and the
dread of you upon all the land that ye shall
tread upon, as he
hath said unto you.
No man will be able to stand against you; the LORD your God will put the fear and
dread of you upon all the land, wherever you set foot, as He has promised you.
And it shall come to pass, when the LORD thy God
hath brought thee in unto the land
whither thou goest to possess it, that thou shalt put the blessing upon mount
Gerizim, and the
curse upon mount
Ebal.
When the LORD your God brings you into the land you are entering to possess, you are to
proclaim the blessing on Mount
Gerizim and the
curse on Mount
Ebal.
And there ye shall eat before the LORD your God, and ye shall
rejoice in all that ye put your hand unto, ye and your households, wherein the LORD thy God
hath blessed thee.
There, in the presence of the LORD your God, you and your households shall eat and
rejoice in all you do, because the LORD your God has blessed you.
And ye shall
rejoice before the LORD your God, ye, and your sons, and your daughters, and your menservants, and your maidservants, and the
Levite that is within your gates;
forasmuch as he
hath no part nor inheritance with you.
And you shall
rejoice before the LORD your God—you, your sons and daughters, your menservants and maidservants, and the
Levite within your gates, since he has no portion or inheritance among you.
Notwithstanding thou mayest kill and eat flesh in all thy gates,
whatsoever thy soul lusteth after, according to the blessing of the LORD thy God which he
hath given thee: the unclean and the clean may eat thereof, as of the
roebuck, and as of the
hart.
But whenever you want, you may slaughter and eat meat within any of your gates, according to the blessing the LORD your God has given you. Both the
ceremonially clean and unclean may eat it as they would a
gazelle or deer,
When the LORD thy God shall
enlarge thy border, as he
hath promised thee, and thou shalt say, I will eat flesh, because thy soul longeth to eat flesh; thou mayest eat flesh,
whatsoever thy soul lusteth after.
When the LORD your God expands your territory as He has promised, and you
crave meat and say, “I want to eat meat,” you may eat it whenever you want.
If the place which the LORD thy God
hath chosen to put his name there be too far from thee, then thou shalt kill of thy
herd and of thy flock, which the LORD
hath given thee, as I have commanded thee, and thou shalt eat in thy gates
whatsoever thy soul lusteth after.
If the place where the LORD your God chooses to put His Name is too far from you, then you may slaughter any of the
herd or flock He has given you, as I have commanded you, and you may eat it within your gates whenever you want.
Thou shalt not do so unto the LORD thy God: for every
abomination to the LORD, which he
hateth, have they done unto their gods; for even their sons and their daughters they have burnt in the fire to their gods.
You must not worship the LORD your God in this way, because they practice for their gods every
abomination which the LORD
hates. They even burn their sons and daughters in the fire as sacrifices to their gods.
And that prophet, or that dreamer of dreams, shall be put to death; because he
hath spoken to turn you away from the LORD your God, which brought you out of the land of Egypt, and redeemed you out of the house of
bondage, to thrust thee out of the way which the LORD thy God commanded thee to walk in. So shalt thou put the evil away from the midst of thee.
Such a prophet or dreamer must be put to death, because he has advocated rebellion against the LORD your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt and redeemed you from the house of slavery; he has tried to turn you from the way in which the LORD your God has commanded you to walk. So you must
purge the evil from among you.
And thou shalt stone him with stones, that he die; because he
hath sought to thrust thee away from the LORD thy God, which brought thee out of the land of Egypt, from the house of
bondage.
Stone him to death for trying to turn you away from the LORD your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of slavery.
If thou shalt hear say in one of thy cities, which the LORD thy God hath given thee to dwell there, saying,
If, regarding one of the cities the LORD your God is giving you to inhabit, you hear it said
And there shall
cleave nought of the
cursed thing to thine hand: that the LORD may turn from the fierceness of his anger, and
shew thee mercy, and have
compassion upon thee, and multiply thee, as he
hath sworn unto thy fathers;
Nothing devoted to destruction shall
cling to your hands, so that the LORD will turn from His fierce anger, grant you mercy, show you
compassion, and multiply you as He
swore to your fathers,
for thou art an holy people unto the LORD thy God, and the LORD hath chosen thee to be a peculiar people unto himself, above all the nations that are upon the earth.
for you are a people holy to the LORD your God. The LORD has chosen you to be a people for His prized possession out of all the peoples on the face of the earth.
And
whatsoever hath not fins and scales ye may not eat; it is unclean unto you.
but you may not eat anything that does not have fins and scales; it is unclean for you.
And if the way be too long for thee, so that thou art not able to carry it; or if the place be too far from thee, which the LORD thy God shall choose to set his name there, when the LORD thy God hath blessed thee:
But if the distance is too great for you to carry that with which the LORD your God has blessed you, because the place where the LORD your God will choose to put His Name is too far away,
And the
Levite that is within thy gates; thou shalt not
forsake him; for he
hath no part nor inheritance with thee.
And do not neglect the
Levite within your gates, since he has no portion or inheritance among you.
And the
Levite, (because he
hath no part nor inheritance with thee,) and the stranger, and the fatherless, and the widow, which are within thy gates, shall come, and shall eat and be satisfied; that the LORD thy God may
bless thee in all the work of thine hand which thou doest.
Then the
Levite (because he has no portion or inheritance among you), the foreigner, the fatherless, and the widow within your gates may come and eat and be satisfied. And the LORD your God will
bless you in all the work of your hands.
Thou shalt furnish him liberally out of thy flock, and out of thy floor, and out of thy winepress: of that
wherewith the LORD thy God
hath blessed thee thou shalt give unto him.
You are to furnish him liberally from your flock, your
threshing floor, and your winepress. You shall give to him as the LORD your God has blessed you.
It shall not seem hard unto thee, when thou sendest him away free from thee; for he
hath been worth a double
hired servant to thee, in serving thee six years: and the LORD thy God shall
bless thee in all that thou doest.
Do not regard it as a
hardship to set your servant free, because his six years of service were worth twice the wages of a
hired hand. And the LORD your God will
bless you in all you do.
And thou shalt keep the feast of weeks unto the LORD thy God with a tribute of a
freewill offering of thine hand, which thou shalt give unto the LORD thy God, according as the LORD thy God
hath blessed thee:
And you shall
celebrate the Feast of Weeks to the LORD your God with a
freewill offering that you give in proportion to how the LORD your God has blessed you,
And thou shalt
rejoice before the LORD thy God, thou, and thy son, and thy daughter, and thy
manservant, and thy
maidservant, and the
Levite that is within thy gates, and the stranger, and the fatherless, and the widow, that are among you, in the place which the LORD thy God
hath chosen to place his name there.
and you shall
rejoice before the LORD your God in the place He will choose as a dwelling for His Name—you, your sons and daughters, your menservants and maidservants, and the
Levite within your gates, as well as the foreigner, the fatherless, and the widows among you.
Every man shall give as he is able, according to the blessing of the LORD thy God which he hath given thee.
Everyone must appear with a gift as he is able, according to the blessing the LORD your God has given you.
Neither shalt thou set thee up any image; which the LORD thy God hateth.
and do not set up for
yourselves a sacred
pillar, which the LORD your God
hates.
If there be found among you, within any of thy gates which the LORD thy God giveth thee, man or woman, that
hath wrought wickedness in the sight of the LORD thy God, in
transgressing his covenant,
If a man or woman among you in one of the towns that the LORD your God gives you is found doing evil in the sight of the LORD your God by
transgressing His covenant
And hath gone and served other gods, and worshipped them, either the sun, or moon, or any of the host of heaven, which I have not commanded;
and going to worship other gods, bowing down to them or to the sun or moon or any of the host of heaven—which I have forbidden—
But he shall not multiply horses to himself, nor cause the people to return to Egypt, to the end that he should multiply horses:
forasmuch as the LORD
hath said unto you, Ye shall henceforth return no more that way.
But the king must not acquire many horses for himself or send the people back to Egypt to acquire more horses, for the LORD has said, ‘You are never to go back that way again.’
Therefore shall they have no inheritance among their brethren: the LORD is their inheritance, as he hath said unto them.
Although they have no inheritance among their brothers, the LORD is their inheritance, as He promised them.
For the LORD thy God hath chosen him out of all thy tribes, to stand to minister in the name of the LORD, him and his sons for ever.
For the LORD your God has chosen Levi and his sons out of all your tribes to stand and minister in His name for all time.
For these nations, which thou shalt possess,
hearkened unto observers of times, and unto diviners: but as for thee, the LORD thy God
hath not suffered thee so to do.
Though these nations, which you will dispossess,
listen to conjurers and diviners, the LORD your God has not permitted you to do so.
And if thou say in thine heart, How shall we know the word which the LORD hath not spoken?
You may ask in your heart, “How can we recognize a message that the LORD has not spoken?”
When a prophet speaketh in the name of the LORD, if the thing follow not, nor come to pass, that is the thing which the LORD
hath not spoken, but the prophet
hath spoken it
presumptuously: thou shalt not be afraid of him.
When a prophet speaks in the name of the LORD and the message does not come to pass or come true, that is a message the LORD has not spoken. The prophet has spoken
presumptuously. Do not be afraid of him.
When the LORD thy God hath cut off the nations, whose land the LORD thy God giveth thee, and thou succeedest them, and dwellest in their cities, and in their houses;
When the LORD your God has cut off the nations whose land He is giving you, and when you have driven them out and settled in their cities and houses,
And this is the case of the
slayer, which shall
flee thither, that he may live:
Whoso killeth his neighbour ignorantly, whom he
hated not in time past;
Now this is the situation regarding the
manslayer who flees to one of these cities to save his life, having killed his
neighbor accidentally, without intending to
harm him:
Lest the
avenger of the blood pursue the
slayer, while his heart is hot, and overtake him, because the way is long, and
slay him; whereas he was not worthy of death, inasmuch as he
hated him not in time past.
Otherwise, the
avenger of blood might pursue the
manslayer in a
rage, overtake him if the distance is great, and strike him dead though he did not deserve to die, since he did not intend any
harm.
And if the LORD thy God
enlarge thy coast, as he
hath sworn unto thy fathers, and give thee all the land which he promised to give unto thy fathers;
And if the LORD your God enlarges your territory, as He
swore to your fathers, and gives you all the land He promised them,
But if any man
hate his neighbour, and lie in wait for him, and rise up against him, and
smite him
mortally that he die, and fleeth into one of these cities:
If, however, a man
hates his
neighbor and lies in wait, attacks him and kills him, and then flees to one of these cities,
And the judges shall make
diligent inquisition: and, behold, if the witness be a false witness, and
hath testified falsely against his brother;
The judges shall
investigate thoroughly, and if the witness is
proven to be a
liar who has falsely accused his brother,
And the officers shall speak unto the people, saying, What man is there that
hath built a new house, and
hath not dedicated it? let him go and return to his house, lest he die in the battle, and another man
dedicate it.
Furthermore, the officers are to address the army, saying, “Has any man built a new house and not dedicated it? Let him return home, or he may die in battle and another man
dedicate it.
And what man is he that
hath planted a
vineyard, and
hath not yet eaten of it? let him also go and return unto his house, lest he die in the battle, and another man eat of it.
Has any man planted a
vineyard and not begun to enjoy its fruit? Let him return home, or he may die in battle and another man enjoy its fruit.
And what man is there that
hath betrothed a wife, and
hath not taken her? let him go and return unto his house, lest he die in the battle, and another man take her.
Has any man become
pledged to a woman and not married her? Let him return home, or he may die in battle and another man marry her.”
And when the LORD thy God
hath delivered it into thine hands, thou shalt
smite every male thereof with the edge of the sword:
When the LORD your God has delivered it into your hand, you must put every male to the sword.
But the women, and the little ones, and the cattle, and all that is in the city, even all the
spoil thereof, shalt thou take unto
thyself; and thou shalt eat the
spoil of thine enemies, which the LORD thy God
hath given thee.
But the women, children,
livestock, and whatever else is in the city—all its
spoil—you may take as
plunder, and you shall use the
spoil of your enemies that the LORD your God gives you.
If one be found slain in the land which the LORD thy God giveth thee to possess it, lying in the field, and it be not known who hath slain him:
If one is found slain, lying in a field in the land that the LORD your God is giving you to possess, and it is not known who killed him,
And it shall be, that the city which is next unto the slain man, even the elders of that city shall take an
heifer, which
hath not been wrought with, and which
hath not drawn in the yoke;
Then the elders of the city nearest the
victim shall take a
heifer that has never been yoked or used for work,
And the priests the sons of Levi shall come near; for them the LORD thy God
hath chosen to minister unto him, and to
bless in the name of the LORD; and by their word shall every controversy and every stroke be tried:
And the priests, the sons of Levi, shall come forward, for the LORD your God has chosen them to serve Him and
pronounce blessings in His name and to give a ruling in every dispute and case of
assault.
When thou goest forth to war against thine enemies, and the LORD thy God
hath delivered them into thine hands, and thou hast taken them
captive,
When you go to war against your enemies and the LORD your God delivers them into your hand and you take them
captive,
If a man have two wives, one beloved, and another
hated, and they have born him children, both the beloved and the
hated; and if the
firstborn son be hers that was
hated:
If a man has two wives, one beloved and the other unloved, and both bear him sons, but the unloved wife has the
firstborn son,
Then it shall be, when he maketh his sons to
inherit that which he
hath, that he may not make the son of the beloved
firstborn before the son of the
hated, which is indeed the
firstborn:
when that man assigns his inheritance to his sons he must not
appoint the son of the beloved wife as the
firstborn over the son of the unloved wife.
But he shall acknowledge the son of the
hated for the
firstborn, by giving him a double portion of all that he
hath: for he is the beginning of his strength; the right of the
firstborn is his.
Instead, he must acknowledge the
firstborn, the son of his unloved wife, by giving him a double portion of all that he has. For that son is the firstfruits of his father’s strength; the right of the
firstborn belongs to him.
In like manner shalt thou do with his
ass; and so shalt thou do with his
raiment; and with all lost things of thy brother’s, which he
hath lost, and thou hast found, shalt thou do likewise: thou mayest not hide
thyself.
And you shall do the same for his
donkey, his
cloak, or anything your brother has lost and you have found. You must not
ignore it.
If any man take a wife, and go in unto her, and
hate her,
Suppose a man marries a woman, has relations with her, and comes to
hate her,
And the
damsel’s father shall say unto the elders, I gave my daughter unto this man to wife, and he
hateth her;
and say to the elders, “I gave my daughter in marriage to this man, but he has come to
hate her.
And, lo, he
hath given occasions of speech against her, saying, I found not thy daughter a
maid; and yet these are the
tokens of my daughter’s
virginity. And they shall spread the cloth before the elders of the city.
And now he has accused her of shameful conduct, saying, ‘I discovered that your daughter was not a virgin.’ But here is the proof of her
virginity.” And they shall spread out the cloth before the city elders.
And they shall
amerce him in an hundred shekels of silver, and give them unto the father of the
damsel, because he
hath brought up an evil name upon a virgin of Israel: and she shall be his wife; he may not put her away all his days.
They are also to fine him a hundred shekels of silver and give them to the young woman’s father, because this man has given a virgin of Israel a bad name. And she shall remain his wife; he must not
divorce her as long as he lives.
Then they shall bring out the
damsel to the door of her father’s house, and the men of her city shall stone her with stones that she die: because she
hath wrought folly in Israel, to play the
whore in her father’s house: so shalt thou put evil away from among you.
she shall be brought to the door of her father’s house, and there the men of her city will stone her to death. For she has committed an
outrage in Israel by being
promiscuous in her father’s house. So you must
purge the evil from among you.
Then ye shall bring them both out unto the gate of that city, and ye shall stone them with stones that they die; the
damsel, because she
cried not, being in the city; and the man, because he
hath humbled his neighbour’s wife: so thou shalt put away evil from among you.
you must take both of them out to the gate of that city and stone them to death—the young woman because she did not cry out in the city, and the man because he has
violated his
neighbor’s wife. So you must
purge the evil from among you.
Then the man that lay with her shall give unto the
damsel’s father fifty shekels of silver, and she shall be his wife; because he
hath humbled her, he may not put her away all his days.
then the man who lay with her must pay the young woman’s father fifty shekels of silver, and she must become his wife because he has
violated her. He must not
divorce her as long as he lives.
He that is wounded in the stones, or hath his privy member cut off, shall not enter into the congregation of the LORD.
No man with
crushed or severed
genitals may enter the assembly of the LORD.
When a man
hath taken a wife, and married her, and it come to pass that she find no favour in his eyes, because he
hath found some uncleanness in her: then let him write her a bill of
divorcement, and give it in her hand, and send her out of his house.
If a man marries a woman, but she becomes displeasing to him because he finds some
indecency in her, he may write her a
certificate of
divorce, hand it to her, and send her away from his house.
And if the latter husband
hate her, and write her a bill of
divorcement, and giveth it in her hand, and sendeth her out of his house; or if the latter husband die, which took her to be his wife;
and the second man
hates her, writes her a
certificate of
divorce, hands it to her, and sends her away from his house, or if he dies,
When a man
hath taken a new wife, he shall not go out to war, neither shall he be charged with any business: but he shall be free at home one year, and shall
cheer up his wife which he
hath taken.
If a man is newly married, he must not be sent to war or be pressed into any duty. For one year he is free to stay at home and bring joy to the wife he has married.
And his name shall be called in Israel, The house of him that
hath his
shoe loosed.
And his family name in Israel will be called “The House of the
Unsandaled.”
Therefore it shall be, when the LORD thy God
hath given thee rest from all thine enemies round about, in the land which the LORD thy God giveth thee for an inheritance to possess it, that thou shalt
blot out the
remembrance of Amalek from under heaven; thou shalt not
forget it.
When the LORD your God gives you rest from the enemies around you in the land that He is giving you to possess as an inheritance, you are to
blot out the memory of Amalek from under heaven. Do not
forget!
And he hath brought us into this place, and hath given us this land, even a land that floweth with milk and honey.
And He brought us to this place and gave us this land, a land flowing with milk and honey.
And thou shalt
rejoice in every good thing which the LORD thy God
hath given unto thee, and unto thine house, thou, and the
Levite, and the stranger that is among you.
So you shall
rejoice—you, the
Levite, and the foreigner dwelling among you—in all the good things the LORD your God has given to you and your household.
This day the LORD thy God hath commanded thee to do these statutes and judgments: thou shalt therefore keep and do them with all thine heart, and with all thy soul.
The LORD your God commands you this day to follow these statutes and ordinances. You must be careful to follow them with all your heart and with all your soul.
And the LORD
hath avouched thee this day to be his peculiar people, as he
hath promised thee, and that thou shouldest keep all his commandments;
And
today the LORD has proclaimed that you are His people and
treasured possession as He promised, that you are to keep all His commandments,
And to make thee high above all nations which he hath made, in praise, and in name, and in honour; and that thou mayest be an holy people unto the LORD thy God, as he hath spoken.
that He will set you high in praise and name and honor above all the nations He has made, and that you will be a holy people to the LORD your God, as He has promised.
And thou shalt write upon them all the words of this law, when thou art passed over, that thou mayest go in unto the land which the LORD thy God giveth thee, a land that floweth with milk and honey; as the LORD God of thy fathers hath promised thee.
Write on them all the words of this law when you have crossed over to enter the land that the LORD your God is giving you, a land flowing with milk and honey, just as the LORD, the God of your fathers, has promised you.
The LORD shall establish thee an holy people unto himself, as he
hath sworn unto thee, if thou shalt keep the commandments of the LORD thy God, and walk in his ways.
The LORD will establish you as His holy people, just as He has
sworn to you, if you keep the commandments of the LORD your God and walk in His ways.
And he shall
besiege thee in all thy gates, until thy high and
fenced walls come down, wherein thou trustedst, throughout all thy land: and he shall
besiege thee in all thy gates throughout all thy land, which the LORD thy God
hath given thee.
They will
besiege all the cities throughout your land, until the high and fortified walls in which you trust have fallen. They will
besiege all your cities throughout the land that the LORD your God has given you.
And thou shalt eat the fruit of thine own body, the flesh of thy sons and of thy daughters, which the LORD thy God
hath given thee, in the siege, and in the straitness,
wherewith thine enemies shall distress thee:
Then you will eat the fruit of your
womb, the flesh of the sons and daughters whom the LORD your God has given you, in the siege and distress that your enemy will
inflict on you.
So that he will not give to any of them of the flesh of his children whom he shall eat: because he
hath nothing left him in the siege, and in the straitness,
wherewith thine enemies shall distress thee in all thy gates.
refusing to share with any of them the flesh of his children he will eat because he has nothing left in the siege and distress that your enemy will
inflict on you within all your gates.
Yet the LORD hath not given you an heart to perceive, and eyes to see, and ears to hear, unto this day.
Yet to this day the LORD has not given you a mind to understand, eyes to see, or ears to hear.
That he may establish thee to day for a people unto himself, and that he may be unto thee a God, as he
hath said unto thee, and as he
hath sworn unto thy fathers, to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob.
and so that He may establish you
today as His people, and He may be your God as He promised you and as He
swore to your fathers, to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob.
So that the generation to come of your children that shall rise up after you, and the stranger that shall come from a far land, shall say, when they see the plagues of that land, and the sicknesses which the LORD hath laid upon it;
Then the generation to come—your sons who follow you and the foreigner who comes from a distant land—will see the plagues of the land and the sicknesses the LORD has inflicted on it.
Even all nations shall say, Wherefore hath the LORD done thus unto this land? what meaneth the heat of this great anger?
So all the nations will ask, ‘Why has the LORD done such a thing to this land? Why this great
outburst of anger?’
And it shall come to pass, when all these things are come upon thee, the blessing and the
curse, which I have set before thee, and thou shalt call them to mind among all the nations,
whither the LORD thy God
hath driven thee,
“When all these things come upon you—the blessings and curses I have set before you—and you call them to mind in all the nations to which the LORD your God has banished you,
That then the LORD thy God will turn thy captivity, and have
compassion upon thee, and will return and gather thee from all the nations,
whither the LORD thy God
hath scattered thee.
then He will restore you from captivity and have
compassion on you and gather you from all the nations to which the LORD your God has scattered you.
And the LORD thy God will put all these curses upon thine enemies, and on them that
hate thee, which
persecuted thee.
Then the LORD your God will put all these curses upon your enemies who
hate you and
persecute you.
And he said unto them, I am an hundred and twenty years old this day; I can no more go out and come in: also the LORD hath said unto me, Thou shalt not go over this Jordan.
he said to them, “I am now a hundred and twenty years old; I am no longer able to come and go, and the LORD has said to me, ‘You shall not cross the Jordan.’
The LORD thy God, he will go over before thee, and he will destroy these nations from before thee, and thou shalt possess them: and Joshua, he shall go over before thee, as the LORD hath said.
The LORD your God Himself will cross over
ahead of you. He will destroy these nations before you, and you will dispossess them. Joshua will cross
ahead of you, as the LORD has said.
