And the priest, whom he shall
anoint, and whom he shall
consecrate to minister in the priest’s office in his father’s
stead, shall make the
atonement, and shall put on the linen clothes, even the holy garments:
The priest who is
anointed and ordained to succeed his father as
high priest shall make
atonement. He will put on the sacred linen garments
And he that is the
high priest among his brethren, upon whose head the
anointing oil was poured, and that is consecrated to put on the garments, shall not uncover his head, nor
rend his clothes;
The priest who is highest among his brothers, who has had the
anointing oil poured on his head and has been ordained to wear the priestly garments, must not let his hair
hang loose or
tear his garments.
And the congregation shall deliver the
slayer out of the hand of the
revenger of blood, and the congregation shall restore him to the city of his refuge,
whither he was fled: and he shall
abide in it unto the death of the
high priest, which was
anointed with the holy oil.
The assembly is to protect the
manslayer from the hand of the
avenger of blood. Then the assembly will return him to the city of refuge to which he fled, and he must live there until the death of the
high priest, who was
anointed with the holy oil.
Because he should have remained in the city of his refuge until the death of the
high priest: but after the death of the
high priest the
slayer shall return into the land of his possession.
because the
manslayer must remain in his city of refuge until the death of the
high priest. Only after the death of the
high priest may he return to the land he owns.
And ye shall take no satisfaction for him that is fled to the city of his refuge, that he should come again to dwell in the land, until the death of the priest.
Nor should you accept a
ransom for the person who flees to a city of refuge and allow him to return and live on his own land before the death of the
high priest.
And he shall dwell in that city, until he stand before the congregation for judgment, and until the death of the
high priest that shall be in those days: then shall the
slayer return, and come unto his own city, and unto his own house, unto the city from whence he fled.
He is to stay in that city until he stands trial before the assembly and until the death of the
high priest serving at that time. Then the
manslayer may return to his own home in the city from which he fled.”
And it was so, when they saw that there was much money in the chest, that the king’s
scribe and the
high priest came up, and they put up in bags, and told the money that was found in the house of the LORD.
Whenever they saw that there was a large amount of money in the chest, the royal
scribe and the
high priest would go up, count the money brought into the house of the LORD, and
tie it up in bags.
Go up to Hilkiah the high priest, that he may sum the silver which is brought into the house of the LORD, which the keepers of the door have gathered of the people:

And Hilkiah the
high priest said unto Shaphan the
scribe, I have found the book of the law in the house of the LORD. And Hilkiah gave the book to Shaphan, and he read it.

scribe, “I have found the Book of the Law in the house of the LORD!” And he gave it to Shaphan, who read it.
And the king commanded Hilkiah the
high priest, and the priests of the second order, and the keepers of the door, to bring forth out of the temple of the LORD all the vessels that were made for
Baal, and for the
grove, and for all the host of heaven: and he burned them without Jerusalem in the fields of Kidron, and carried the ashes of them unto
Bethel.
Then the king commanded Hilkiah the
high priest, the priests second in rank, and the doorkeepers to remove from the temple of the LORD all the articles made for
Baal, Asherah, and all the host of heaven. And he burned them outside Jerusalem in the fields of Kidron and carried their ashes to
Bethel.
And the king called for Jehoiada the chief, and said unto him, Why hast thou not required of the Levites to bring in out of Judah and out of Jerusalem the collection, according to the commandment of Moses the servant of the LORD, and of the congregation of Israel, for the tabernacle of witness?
So the king called Jehoiada the high priest and said, “Why have you not required the Levites to bring from Judah and Jerusalem the tax imposed by Moses the servant of the LORD and by the assembly of Israel for the Tent of the Testimony?”
Now it came to pass, that at what time the chest was brought unto the king’s office by the hand of the Levites, and when they saw that there was much money, the king’s
scribe and the
high priest’s officer came and
emptied the chest, and took it, and carried it to his place again. Thus they did day by day, and gathered money in abundance.
Whenever the chest was brought by the Levites to the king’s overseers and they saw that there was a large amount of money, the royal
scribe and the officer of the
high priest would come and empty the chest and carry it back to its place. They did this daily and gathered the money in abundance.
And when they came to Hilkiah the
high priest, they delivered the money that was brought into the house of God, which the Levites that kept the doors had gathered of the hand of
Manasseh and Ephraim, and of all the
remnant of Israel, and of all Judah and Benjamin; and they returned to Jerusalem.
So they went to Hilkiah the
high priest and gave him the money that had been brought into the house of God, which the Levites at the doors had collected from the people of
Manasseh and Ephraim, from all the
remnant of Israel, Judah, and Benjamin, and from the people of Jerusalem.
Then Eliashib the
high priest rose up with his brethren the priests, and they builded the sheep gate; they
sanctified it, and set up the doors of it; even unto the tower of Meah they
sanctified it, unto the tower of Hananeel.
At the Sheep Gate, Eliashib the
high priest and his fellow priests began rebuilding. They dedicated it and
installed its doors. After building as far as the Tower of the Hundred and the Tower of Hananel, they dedicated the wall.
After him
Baruch the son of Zabbai earnestly repaired the other piece, from the turning of the wall unto the door of the house of Eliashib the
high priest.
Next to him,
Baruch son of Zabbai
diligently repaired another section, from the angle to the
doorway of the house of Eliashib the
high priest.
And one of the sons of Joiada, the son of Eliashib the
high priest, was son in law to
Sanballat the Horonite: therefore I
chased him from me.
Even one of the sons of Jehoiada son of Eliashib the
high priest had become a son-in-law to
Sanballat the Horonite. Therefore I drove him away from me.
In the second year of
Darius the king, in the sixth month, in the first day of the month, came the word of the LORD by
Haggai the prophet unto
Zerubbabel the son of Shealtiel, governor of Judah, and to Joshua the son of Josedech, the
high priest, saying,
In the second year of the reign of
Darius, on the first day of the sixth month, the word of the LORD came through
Haggai the prophet to
Zerubbabel son of Shealtiel, governor of Judah, and to Joshua son of Jehozadak, the
high priest, stating
Then
Zerubbabel the son of Shealtiel, and Joshua the son of Josedech, the
high priest, with all the
remnant of the people, obeyed the voice of the LORD their God, and the words of
Haggai the prophet, as the LORD their God had sent him, and the people did fear before the LORD.
Then
Zerubbabel son of Shealtiel and Joshua son of Jehozadak, the
high priest, as well as all the
remnant of the people, obeyed the voice of the LORD their God and the words of the prophet
Haggai, because the LORD their God had sent him. So the people feared the LORD.
And the LORD
stirred up the spirit of
Zerubbabel the son of Shealtiel, governor of Judah, and the spirit of Joshua the son of Josedech, the
high priest, and the spirit of all the
remnant of the people; and they came and did work in the house of the LORD of hosts, their God,
So the LORD
stirred the spirit of
Zerubbabel son of Shealtiel, governor of Judah, and the spirit of Joshua son of Jehozadak, the
high priest, as well as the spirit of all the
remnant of the people. And they came and began the work on the house of the LORD of Hosts, their God,
Speak now to
Zerubbabel the son of Shealtiel, governor of Judah, and to Joshua the son of Josedech, the
high priest, and to the residue of the people, saying,
“Speak to
Zerubbabel son of Shealtiel, governor of Judah, and to Joshua son of Jehozadak, the
high priest, and also to the
remnant of the people. Ask them,
Yet now be strong, O
Zerubbabel, saith the LORD; and be strong, O Joshua, son of Josedech, the
high priest; and be strong, all ye people of the land, saith the LORD, and work: for I am with you, saith the LORD of hosts:
But now be strong, O
Zerubbabel, declares the LORD. Be strong, O Joshua son of Jehozadak, the
high priest. And be strong, all you people of the land, declares the LORD. Work! For I am with you, declares the LORD of Hosts.
And he shewed me Joshua the
high priest standing before the angel of the LORD, and
Satan standing at his right hand to resist him.
Then the angel showed me Joshua the
high priest standing before the angel of the LORD, with
Satan standing at his right hand to
accuse him.
Hear now, O Joshua the high priest, thou, and thy fellows that sit before thee: for they are men wondered at: for, behold, I will bring forth my servant the BRANCH.
Hear now, O high priest Joshua, you and your companions seated before you, who are indeed a sign. For behold, I am going to bring My servant, the Branch.
Then take silver and gold, and make crowns, and set them upon the head of Joshua the son of Josedech, the high priest;
Take silver and gold, make an
ornate crown, and set it on the head of the
high priest, Joshua son of Jehozadak.
Then assembled together the chief priests, and the
scribes, and the elders of the people, unto the palace of the
high priest, who was called
Caiaphas,
At that time the chief priests and elders of the people assembled in the
courtyard of the
high priest, whose name was
Caiaphas,
And, behold, one of them which were with Jesus stretched out his hand, and drew his sword, and struck a servant of the
high priest’s, and
smote off his ear.
At this, one of Jesus’ companions drew his sword and struck the servant of the high priest, cutting off his ear.
And they that had laid hold on Jesus led him away to
Caiaphas the
high priest, where the
scribes and the elders were assembled.
Those who had arrested Jesus led Him away to the house of
Caiaphas the
high priest, where the
scribes and elders had gathered.
But Peter followed him
afar off unto the
high priest’s palace, and went in, and sat with the servants, to see the end.
But Peter followed Him at a distance, right up to the
courtyard of the
high priest. And he went in and sat down with the guards to see the outcome.
And the high priest arose, and said unto him, Answerest thou nothing? what is it which these witness against thee?
So the
high priest stood up and asked Him, “Have You no answer? What are these men
testifying against You?”
But Jesus held his peace. And the
high priest answered and said unto him, I
adjure thee by the living God, that thou tell us whether thou be the Christ, the Son of God.
But Jesus remained silent. Then the high priest said to Him, “I charge You under oath by the living God: Tell us if You are the Christ, the Son of God.”
Then the
high priest rent his clothes, saying, He hath spoken
blasphemy; what further need have we of witnesses? behold, now ye have heard his
blasphemy.
At this, the
high priest tore his clothes and declared, “He has
blasphemed! Why do we need any more witnesses? Look, now you have heard the
blasphemy.
How he went into the house of God in the days of
Abiathar the
high priest, and did eat the
shewbread, which is not lawful to eat but for the priests, and gave also to them which were with him?
During the
high priesthood of
Abiathar, he entered the house of God and
ate the consecrated bread, which was lawful only for the priests. And he gave some to his companions as well.”
And one of them that stood by drew a sword, and
smote a servant of the
high priest, and cut off his ear.
And one of the bystanders drew his sword and struck the servant of the high priest, cutting off his ear.
And they led Jesus away to the
high priest: and with him were assembled all the chief priests and the elders and the
scribes.
They led Jesus away to the
high priest, and all the chief priests, elders, and
scribes assembled.
And Peter followed him
afar off, even into the palace of the
high priest: and he sat with the servants, and warmed himself at the fire.
Peter followed Him at a distance, right into the
courtyard of the
high priest. And he sat with the officers and warmed himself by the fire.
And the high priest stood up in the midst, and asked Jesus, saying, Answerest thou nothing? what is it which these witness against thee?
So the
high priest stood up before them and questioned Jesus, “Have You no answer? What are these men
testifying against You?”
But he held his peace, and answered nothing. Again the high priest asked him, and said unto him, Art thou the Christ, the Son of the Blessed?
But Jesus remained silent and made no reply. Again the high priest questioned Him, “Are You the Christ, the Son of the Blessed One?”
Then the high priest rent his clothes, and saith, What need we any further witnesses?
At this, the
high priest tore his clothes and declared, “Why do we need any more witnesses?
And as Peter was beneath in the palace, there cometh one of the maids of the high priest:
While Peter was in the
courtyard below, one of the servant girls of the
high priest came down
Annas and
Caiaphas being the
high priests, the word of God came unto John the son of
Zacharias in the wilderness.
during the
high priesthood of
Annas and
Caiaphas, the word of God came to John son of
Zechariah in the wilderness.
And one of them
smote the servant of the
high priest, and cut off his right ear.
And one of them struck the servant of the high priest, cutting off his right ear.
Then took they him, and led him, and brought him into the
high priest’s house. And Peter followed
afar off.
Then they seized Jesus, led Him away, and took Him into the house of the high priest. And Peter followed at a distance.
And one of them, named
Caiaphas, being the
high priest that same year, said unto them, Ye know nothing at all,
But one of them, named
Caiaphas, who was
high priest that year, said to them, “You know nothing at all!
And this spake he not of himself: but being
high priest that year, he
prophesied that Jesus should die for that nation;
Caiaphas did not say this on his own. Instead, as
high priest that year, he was
prophesying that Jesus would die for the nation,
Then Simon Peter having a sword drew it, and
smote the
high priest’s servant, and cut off his right ear. The servant’s name was Malchus.
Then Simon Peter drew his sword and struck the servant of the high priest, cutting off his right ear. The servant’s name was Malchus.
And led him away to
Annas first; for he was father in law to
Caiaphas, which was the
high priest that same year.
They brought Him first to
Annas, who was the father-in-law of
Caiaphas, the
high priest that year.
And Simon Peter followed Jesus, and so did another disciple: that disciple was known unto the high priest, and went in with Jesus into the palace of the high priest.
Now Simon Peter and another disciple were following Jesus. Since that disciple was known to the
high priest, he also went with Jesus into the
courtyard of the
high priest.
But Peter stood at the door without. Then went out that other disciple, which was known unto the high priest, and spake unto her that kept the door, and brought in Peter.
But Peter stood outside at the door. Then the disciple who was known to the
high priest went out and spoke to the
doorkeeper, and brought Peter in.
The high priest then asked Jesus of his disciples, and of his doctrine.
Meanwhile, the high priest questioned Jesus about His disciples and His teaching.
And when he had thus spoken, one of the officers which stood by struck Jesus with the palm of his hand, saying, Answerest thou the high priest so?
When Jesus had said this, one of the officers standing nearby
slapped Him in the face and said, “Is this how You answer the
high priest?”
One of the servants of the
high priest, being his
kinsman whose ear Peter cut off, saith, Did not I see thee in the garden with him?
One of the high priest’s servants, a relative of the man whose ear Peter had cut off, asked, “Didn’t I see you with Him in the garden?”
And
Annas the
high priest, and
Caiaphas, and John, and Alexander, and as many as were of the kindred of the
high priest, were gathered together at Jerusalem.
along with
Annas the
high priest,
Caiaphas, John, Alexander, and many others from the
high priest’s family.
Then the
high priest rose up, and all they that were with him, (which is the sect of the
Sadducees,) and were filled with
indignation,
Then the
high priest and all his associates, who belonged to the party of the
Sadducees, were filled with jealousy. They went out
And when they heard that, they entered into the temple early in the morning, and taught. But the high priest came, and they that were with him, and called the council together, and all the senate of the children of Israel and sent to the prison to have them brought.
At
daybreak the apostles entered the temple courts as they had been told and began to teach the people. When the
high priest and his associates arrived, they
convened the
Sanhedrin—the full assembly of the elders of Israel—and sent to the
jail for the apostles.
Now when the
high priest and the captain of the temple and the chief priests heard these things, they doubted of them
whereunto this would grow.
When the captain of the temple guard and the chief priests heard this account, they were
perplexed as to what was happening.
And when they had brought them, they set them before the council: and the high priest asked them,
Then said the high priest, Are these things so?
Then the high priest asked Stephen, “Are these charges true?”
And Saul, yet breathing out threatenings and slaughter against the disciples of the Lord, went unto the high priest,
Meanwhile, Saul was still breathing out
murderous threats against the disciples of the Lord. He approached the
high priest As also the
high priest doth bear me witness, and all the estate of the elders: from whom also I received letters unto the brethren, and went to Damascus, to bring them which were there bound unto Jerusalem, for to be punished.
as the
high priest and the whole Council can
testify about me. I even obtained letters from them to their brothers in Damascus, and I was on my way to
apprehend these people and bring them to Jerusalem to be punished.
And the
high priest Ananias commanded them that stood by him to
smite him on the mouth.
At this, the
high priest Ananias ordered those standing near Paul to strike him on the mouth.
And they that stood by said, Revilest thou God’s high priest?
But those standing nearby said, “How
dare you
insult the
high priest of God!”
Then said Paul, I
wist not, brethren, that he was the
high priest: for it is written, Thou shalt not speak evil of the ruler of thy people.
“Brothers,” Paul replied, “I was not aware that he was the high priest, for it is written: ‘Do not speak evil about the ruler of your people.’”
And after five days
Ananias the
high priest descended with the elders, and with a certain
orator named Tertullus, who informed the governor against Paul.
Five days later the
high priest Ananias came down with some elders and a
lawyer named Tertullus, who presented to the governor their case against Paul.
Then the
high priest and the chief of the Jews informed him against Paul, and
besought him,
where the chief priests and Jewish leaders presented their case against Paul. They urged
Festus Wherefore in all things it behoved him to be made like unto his brethren, that he might be a
merciful and faithful
high priest in things pertaining to God, to make
reconciliation for the sins of the people.
For this reason He had to be made like His brothers in every way, so that He might become a
merciful and faithful
high priest in service to God, in order to make
atonement for the sins of the people.
Wherefore, holy brethren, partakers of the heavenly calling, consider the Apostle and High Priest of our profession, Christ Jesus;
Therefore, holy brothers, who share in the heavenly calling, set your focus on Jesus, the apostle and
high priest whom we
confess.
Seeing then that we have a great high priest, that is passed into the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold fast our profession.
Therefore, since we have a great
high priest who has passed through the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold firmly to what we
profess.
For we have not an
high priest which cannot be touched with the feeling of our
infirmities; but was in all points
tempted like as we are, yet without sin.
For we do not have a
high priest who is unable to
sympathize with our weaknesses, but we have one who was
tempted in every way that we are, yet was without sin.
For every high priest taken from among men is ordained for men in things pertaining to God, that he may offer both gifts and sacrifices for sins:
Every high priest is appointed from among men to represent them in matters relating to God, to offer gifts and sacrifices for sins.
So also Christ
glorified not himself to be made an
high priest; but he that said unto him, Thou art my Son, to day have I
begotten thee.
So also Christ did not take upon Himself the glory of becoming a
high priest, but He was called by the One who said to Him: “You are My Son;
today I have become Your Father.”
Called of God an high priest after the order of Melchisedec.
and was designated by God as
high priest in the order of
Melchizedek.
Whither the
forerunner is for us entered, even Jesus, made an
high priest for ever after the order of Melchisedec.
For such an
high priest became us, who is holy,
harmless,
undefiled, separate from sinners, and made higher than the heavens;
Such a
high priest truly befits us—One who is holy, innocent,
undefiled, set apart from sinners, and
exalted above the heavens.
Who needeth not daily, as those high priests, to offer up sacrifice, first for his own sins, and then for the people’s: for this he did once, when he offered up himself.
Unlike the other high priests, He does not need to offer daily sacrifices, first for His own sins and then for the sins of the people; He sacrificed for sin once for all when He offered up Himself.
For the law maketh men
high priests which have
infirmity; but the word of the oath, which was since the law, maketh the Son, who is consecrated for
evermore.
For the law appoints as
high priests men who are weak; but the oath, which came after the law, appointed the Son, who has been made perfect
forever.
Now of the things which we have spoken this is the sum: We have such an high priest, who is set on the right hand of the throne of the Majesty in the heavens;
The point of what we are saying is this: We do have such a high priest, who sat down at the right hand of the throne of the Majesty in heaven,
For every high priest is ordained to offer gifts and sacrifices: wherefore it is of necessity that this man have somewhat also to offer.
And since every high priest is appointed to offer both gifts and sacrifices, it was necessary for this One also to have something to offer.
But into the second went the high priest alone once every year, not without blood, which he offered for himself, and for the errors of the people:
But only the high priest entered the second room, and then only once a year, and never without blood, which he offered for himself and for the sins the people had committed in ignorance.
But Christ being come an high priest of good things to come, by a greater and more perfect tabernacle, not made with hands, that is to say, not of this building;
But when Christ came as high priest of the good things that have come, He went through the greater and more perfect tabernacle that is not made by hands and is not a part of this creation.
Nor yet that he should offer himself often, as the high priest entereth into the holy place every year with blood of others;
Nor did He enter heaven to offer Himself again and again, as the high priest enters the Most Holy Place every year with blood that is not his own.
And having an high priest over the house of God;
and since we have a great priest over the house of God,
For the bodies of those beasts, whose blood is brought into the sanctuary by the high priest for sin, are burned without the camp.
Although the high priest brings the blood of animals into the Holy Place as a sacrifice for sin, the bodies are burned outside the camp.
For unto them said Nehemias and Atharias, that they should not be partakers of the holy things, till there arose up an high priest clothed with doctrine and truth.
Also Joacim the
high priest, which was in those days in Jerusalem, wrote to them that dwelt in Bethulia, and Betomestham, which is over against
Esdraelon toward the open country, near to Dothaim,
And the children of Israel did as Joacim the high priest had commanded them, with the ancients of all the people of Israel, which dwelt at Jerusalem.
And Joacim the
high priest, and all the priests that stood before the Lord, and they which ministered unto the Lord, had their loins
girt with
sackcloth, and offered the daily burnt offerings, with the vows and free gifts of the people,
Then Joacim the
high priest, and the ancients of the children of Israel that dwelt in Jerusalem, came to behold the good things that God had shewed to Israel, and to see
Judith, and to
salute her.
Simon the high priest, the son of Onias, who in his life repaired the house again, and in his days fortified the temple:
And they sent it to Jerusalem unto
Joachim the
high priest, the son of Chelcias, son of Salom, and to the priests, and to all the people which were found with him at Jerusalem,
There came unto him all the wicked and ungodly men of Israel, having Alcimus, who was
desirous to be
high priest, for their captain:
And him he sent with that wicked Alcimus, whom he made
high priest, and commanded that he should take
vengeance of the children of Israel.
But Alcimus
contended for the
high priesthood.
Wherefore now this day we
ordain thee to be the
high priest of thy nation, and to be called the king’s friend; (and
therewithal he sent him a purple
robe and a crown of gold:) and require thee to take our part, and keep friendship with us.
And as for the tower which is at Jerusalem, I yield up authority over it, and give the high priest, that he may set in it such men as he shall choose to keep it.
And concerning the three governments that are added to
Judea from the country of Samaria, let them be joined with
Judea, that they may be reckoned to be under one, nor bound to obey other authority than the
high priest’s.
Then
Demetrius made
Apollonius the governor of Celosyria his general, who gathered together a great host, and camped in Jamnia, and sent unto
Jonathan the
high priest, saying,
And confirmed him in the high priesthood, and in all the honours that he had before, and gave him preeminence among his chief friends.
At that time young
Antiochus wrote unto
Jonathan, saying, I
confirm thee in the
high priesthood, and
appoint thee ruler over the four governments, and to be one of the king’s friends.
So they went unto Rome, and entered into the senate, and said,
Jonathan the
high priest, and the people of the Jews, sent us unto you, to the end ye should renew the friendship, which ye had with them, and league, as in former time.
