King James Bible KJV Bible
Berean Standard Bible BSB Bible
But into the second went the high priest alone once every year, not without blood, which he offered for himself, and for the errors of the people:
But only the high priest entered the second room, and then only once a year, and never without blood, which he offered for himself and for the sins the people had committed in ignorance.
Which was a figure for the time then present, in which were offered both gifts and sacrifices, that could not make him that did the service perfect, as pertaining to the conscience;
It is an illustration for the present time, because the gifts and sacrifices being offered were unable to
cleanse the conscience of the worshiper.
How much more shall the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered
himself without spot to God,
purge your conscience from dead works to serve the living God?
how much more will the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered
Himself unblemished to God,
purify our consciences from works of death, so that we may serve the living God!
Nor yet that he should offer himself often, as the high priest entereth into the holy place every year with blood of others;
Nor did He enter heaven to offer Himself again and again, as the high priest enters the Most Holy Place every year with blood that is not his own.
For then must he often have suffered since the foundation of the world: but now once in the end of the world hath he appeared to put away sin by the sacrifice of himself.
Otherwise, Christ would have had to suffer repeatedly since the foundation of the world. But now He has appeared once for all at the end of the ages to do away with sin by the sacrifice of Himself.
So Christ was once offered to bear the sins of many; and unto them that look for him shall he appear the second time without sin unto salvation.
so also Christ was offered once to bear the sins of many; and He will appear a second time, not to bear sin, but to bring salvation to those who eagerly
await Him.
Of how much sorer punishment, suppose ye, shall he be thought worthy, who hath
trodden under foot the Son of God, and hath counted the blood of the covenant,
wherewith he was
sanctified, an unholy thing, and hath done
despite unto the Spirit of grace?
How much more severely do you think one deserves to be punished who has
trampled on the Son of God,
profaned the blood of the covenant that
sanctified him, and
insulted the Spirit of grace?
For we know
him that hath said,
Vengeance belongeth unto me, I will
recompense, saith the Lord. And again, The Lord shall judge his people.
For we know
Him who said, “
Vengeance is Mine; I will repay,” and again, “The Lord will judge His people.”
Now the just shall live by faith: but if any man draw back, my soul shall have no pleasure in him.
But My righteous one will live by faith; and if he shrinks back, I will take no pleasure in him.”
By faith
Enoch was translated that he should not see death; and was not found, because God had translated
him: for before his translation he had this testimony, that he pleased God.
By faith
Enoch was taken up so that he did not see death: “He could not be found, because God had taken
him away.” For before he was taken, he was
commended as one who pleased God.
But without faith it is impossible to please
him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that
diligently seek
him.
And without faith it is impossible to please God, because
anyone who approaches
Him must believe that He exists and that He rewards those who earnestly seek
Him.
By faith he
sojourned in the land of promise, as in a strange country, dwelling in tabernacles with Isaac and Jacob, the heirs with
him of the same promise:
By faith he dwelt in the promised land as a stranger in a foreign country. He lived in tents, as did Isaac and Jacob, who were heirs with him of the same promise.
Through faith also Sara herself received strength to conceive seed, and was delivered of a child when she was past age, because she judged him faithful who had promised.
By faith
Sarah, even though she was barren and beyond the proper age, was enabled to conceive a child, because she considered
Him faithful who had promised.
Therefore
sprang there even of one, and
him as good as dead, so many as the stars of the sky in multitude, and as the sand which is by the sea shore innumerable.
And so from one man, and he as good as dead, came descendants as numerous as the stars in the sky and as countless as the sand on the
seashore.
Of whom it was said, That in Isaac shall thy seed be called:
even though God had said to him, “Through Isaac your offspring will be reckoned.”
Accounting that God was able to raise him up, even from the dead; from whence also he received him in a figure.
Abraham reasoned that God could raise the dead, and in a sense, he did receive Isaac back from death.
By faith Moses, when he was born, was
hid three months of his parents, because they saw he was a proper child; and they were not afraid of the king’s commandment.
By faith Moses’ parents
hid him for three months after his birth, because they saw that he was a beautiful child, and they were unafraid of the king’s edict.
By faith he
forsook Egypt, not fearing the wrath of the king: for he
endured, as seeing
him who is invisible.
By faith Moses left Egypt, not fearing the king’s anger; he
persevered because he saw
Him who is invisible.
Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before
him endured the cross,
despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God.
Let us fix our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy set before
Him endured the cross,
scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.
Consider
Him who
endured such hostility from sinners, so that you will not grow
weary and lose heart.
And you have forgotten the
exhortation that addresses you as sons: “My son, do not take lightly the discipline of the Lord, and do not lose heart when He rebukes you.
See that ye refuse not him that speaketh. For if they escaped not who refused him that spake on earth, much more shall not we escape, if we turn away from him that speaketh from heaven:
See to it that you do not refuse
Him who speaks. For if the people did not escape when they refused
Him who
warned them on earth, how much less will we escape if we
reject Him who warns us from heaven?
Let us go forth therefore unto him without the camp, bearing his reproach.
Therefore let us go to Him outside the camp, bearing the disgrace He bore.
By
him therefore let us offer the sacrifice of praise to God continually, that is, the fruit of our lips giving
thanks to his name.
Through Jesus, therefore, let us continually offer to God a sacrifice of praise, the fruit of lips that
confess His name.
Know ye that our brother
Timothy is set at liberty; with whom, if he come shortly, I will see you.
Be aware that our brother
Timothy has been released. If he arrives soon, I will come with
him to see you.
If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him.
Now if any of you lacks wisdom, he should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to him.
But let
him ask in faith, nothing
wavering. For he that wavereth is like a wave of the sea driven with the wind and
tossed.
But he must ask in faith, without doubting, because he who doubts is like a wave of the sea,
blown and
tossed by the wind.
Blessed is the man that endureth
temptation: for when he is tried, he shall receive the crown of life, which the Lord hath promised to them that love
him.
Blessed is the man who perseveres under trial, because when he has stood the test, he will receive the crown of life that God has promised to those who love Him.
For he beholdeth
himself, and goeth his way, and
straightway forgetteth what manner of man he was.
and after observing himself goes away and immediately forgets what he looks like.
If any man among you seem to be religious, and bridleth not his tongue, but deceiveth his own heart, this man’s religion is vain.
If
anyone considers
himself religious and yet does not
bridle his tongue, he deceives his heart and his religion is worthless.
Pure religion and
undefiled before God and the Father is this, To visit the fatherless and widows in their
affliction, and to keep
himself unspotted from the world.
Pure and
undefiled religion before our God and Father is this: to care for orphans and widows in their distress, and to keep
oneself from being
polluted by the world.
And ye have respect to
him that weareth the gay clothing, and say unto
him, Sit thou here in a good place; and say to the poor, Stand thou there, or sit here under my
footstool:
If you
lavish attention on the man in fine clothes and say, “Here is a seat of honor,” but say to the poor man, “You must stand” or “Sit at my feet,”
Hearken, my beloved brethren, Hath not God chosen the poor of this world rich in faith, and heirs of the kingdom which he hath promised to them that love
him?
Listen, my beloved brothers: Has not God chosen the poor of this world to be rich in faith and to
inherit the kingdom He promised those who love
Him?
What
doth it profit, my brethren, though a man say he hath faith, and have not works? can faith save
him?
What good is it, my brothers, if someone claims to have faith, but has no deeds? Can such faith save him?
And one of you say unto them, Depart in peace, be ye warmed and filled; notwithstanding ye give them not those things which are needful to the body; what
doth it profit?
If one of you tells him, “Go in peace; stay warm and well fed,” but does not provide for his physical needs, what good is that?
And the scripture was fulfilled which saith, Abraham believed God, and it was imputed unto him for righteousness: and he was called the Friend of God.
And the Scripture was fulfilled that says, “Abraham believed God, and it was credited to him as righteousness,” and he was called a friend of God.
Who is a wise man and
endued with knowledge among you? let
him shew out of a good conversation his works with
meekness of wisdom.
Who is wise and understanding among you? Let
him show it by his good conduct, by deeds done in the
humility that comes from wisdom.
Ye adulterers and adulteresses, know ye not that the friendship of the world is
enmity with God?
whosoever therefore will be a friend of the world is the enemy of God.
You adulteresses! Do you not know that friendship with the world is hostility toward God? Therefore,
whoever chooses to be a friend of the world renders
himself an enemy of God.
Speak not evil one of another, brethren. He that speaketh evil of his brother, and judgeth his brother, speaketh evil of the law, and judgeth the law: but if thou judge the law, thou art not a
doer of the law, but a judge.
Brothers, do not
slander one another.
Anyone who speaks against his brother or judges
him speaks against the law and judges it. And if you judge the law, you are not a
practitioner of the law, but a judge of it.
Therefore to him that knoweth to do good, and doeth it not, to him it is sin.
Anyone, then, who knows the right thing to do, yet fails to do it, is guilty of sin.
Is any among you
afflicted? let
him pray. Is any
merry? let
him sing psalms.
Is any one of you suffering? He should pray. Is
anyone cheerful? He should sing praises.
Is any sick among you? let
him call for the elders of the church; and let them pray over
him,
anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord:
Is any one of you sick? He should call the elders of the church to pray over
him and
anoint him with oil in the name of the Lord.
And the prayer of faith shall save the sick, and the Lord shall raise
him up; and if he have committed sins, they shall be
forgiven him.
And the prayer offered in faith will restore the one who is sick. The Lord will raise
him up. If he has
sinned, he will be
forgiven.
Brethren, if any of you do
err from the truth, and one convert
him;
My brothers, if one of you should
wander from the truth and someone should bring
him back,
Let
him know, that he which converteth the
sinner from the error of his way shall save a soul from death, and shall hide a multitude of sins.
consider this:
Whoever turns a
sinner from the error of his way will save his soul from death and cover over a multitude of sins.
Whom having not seen, ye love; in whom, though now ye see
him not, yet believing, ye
rejoice with joy unspeakable and full of glory:
Though you have not seen
Him, you love
Him; and though you do not see
Him now, you believe in
Him and
rejoice with an inexpressible and glorious joy,
Who by him do believe in God, that raised him up from the dead, and gave him glory; that your faith and hope might be in God.
Through
Him you believe in God, who raised
Him from the dead and
glorified Him; and so your faith and hope are in God.
To whom coming, as unto a living stone, disallowed indeed of men, but chosen of God, and precious,
As you come to Him, the living stone, rejected by men but chosen and precious in God’s sight,
Wherefore also it is contained in the scripture, Behold, I lay in
Sion a chief corner stone,
elect, precious: and he that believeth on
him shall not be confounded.
For it stands in Scripture: “See, I lay in
Zion a stone, a chosen and precious cornerstone; and the one who believes in
Him will never be put to shame.”
But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye should
shew forth the praises of
him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvellous light:
But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for God’s own possession, to
proclaim the virtues of
Him who called you out of darkness into His
marvelous light.
Or unto governors, as unto them that are sent by him for the punishment of evildoers, and for the praise of them that do well.
or to governors as those sent by
him to
punish those who do wrong and to praise those who do right.
Who, when he was
reviled,
reviled not again; when he suffered, he threatened not; but committed
himself to
him that judgeth righteously:
When they
heaped abuse on
Him, He did not
retaliate; when He suffered, He made no threats, but entrusted
Himself to
Him who judges justly.
Who his own self bare our sins in his own body on the tree, that we, being dead to sins, should live unto righteousness: by whose stripes ye were
healed.
He
Himself bore our sins in His body on the tree, so that we might die to sin and live to righteousness. “By His stripes you are
healed.”
Even as
Sarah obeyed Abraham, calling
him lord: whose daughters ye are, as long as ye do well, and are not afraid with any
amazement.
just as
Sarah obeyed Abraham and called
him lord. And you are her children if you do what is right and refuse to give way to fear.
For he that will love life, and see good days, let
him refrain his tongue from evil, and his lips that they speak no
guile:
For, “
Whoever would love life and see good days must keep his tongue from evil and his lips from
deceitful speech.
Let
him eschew evil, and do good; let
him seek peace, and
ensue it.
He must turn from evil and do good; he must seek peace and pursue it.
Who is gone into heaven, and is on the right hand of God; angels and authorities and powers being made subject unto him.
who has gone into heaven and is at the right hand of God, with angels, authorities, and powers subject to Him.
Who shall give account to him that is ready to judge the quick and the dead.
But they will have to give an account to Him who is ready to judge the living and the dead.
If any man speak, let
him speak as the oracles of God; if any man minister, let
him do it as of the ability which God giveth: that God in all things may be
glorified through Jesus Christ, to whom be praise and dominion for ever and ever.
Amen.
If
anyone speaks, he should speak as one conveying the words of God. If
anyone serves, he should serve with the strength God provides, so that in all things God may be
glorified through Jesus Christ, to whom be the glory and the power
forever and ever.
Amen.
Yet if any man suffer as a Christian, let
him not be
ashamed; but let
him glorify God on this behalf.
But if you suffer as a Christian, do not be
ashamed, but
glorify God that you bear that name.
Wherefore let them that suffer according to the will of God commit the keeping of their souls to
him in well doing, as unto a faithful
Creator.
So then, those who suffer according to God’s will should
entrust their souls to their faithful
Creator and continue to do good.
Casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you.
Cast all your
anxiety on
Him, because He cares for you.
Whom resist
stedfast in the faith, knowing that the same afflictions are accomplished in your brethren that are in the world.
Resist him, standing firm in your faith and in the knowledge that your brothers throughout the world are undergoing the same kinds of suffering.
But the God of all grace, who hath called us unto his eternal glory by Christ Jesus, after that ye have suffered a while, make you perfect,
stablish,
strengthen, settle you.
And after you have suffered for a little while, the God of all grace, who has called you to His eternal glory in Christ, will
Himself restore you, secure you,
strengthen you, and establish you.
To
him be glory and dominion for ever and ever.
Amen.
According as his divine power hath given unto us all things that
pertain unto life and
godliness, through the knowledge of
him that hath called us to glory and virtue:
His divine power has given us everything we need for life and
godliness through the knowledge of
Him who called us by His own glory and excellence.
For he received from God the Father honour and glory, when there came such a voice to him from the excellent glory, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.
For He received honor and glory from God the Father when the voice came to
Him from the
Majestic Glory, saying, “This is My beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.”
And this voice which came from heaven we heard, when we were with him in the holy mount.
And we ourselves heard this voice from heaven when we were with Him on the holy mountain.
While they promise them liberty, they themselves are the servants of corruption: for of whom a man is overcome, of the same is he brought in
bondage.
They promise them freedom, while they themselves are slaves to
depravity. For a man is a slave to whatever has mastered
him.
Wherefore, beloved, seeing that ye look for such things, be
diligent that ye may be found of
him in peace, without spot, and
blameless.
Therefore, beloved, as you
anticipate these things, make every effort to be found at peace—spotless and
blameless in His sight.
And account that the
longsuffering of our Lord is salvation; even as our beloved brother Paul also according to the wisdom given unto
him hath written unto you;
Consider also that our Lord’s
patience brings salvation, just as our beloved brother Paul also wrote you with the wisdom God gave
him.
But grow in grace, and in the knowledge of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. To
him be glory both now and for ever.
Amen.
But grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and
Savior Jesus Christ. To
Him be the glory both now and to the day of
eternity.
Amen.
This then is the message which we have heard of him, and declare unto you, that God is light, and in him is no darkness at all.
And this is the message we have heard from
Him and
announce to you: God is light, and in
Him there is no darkness at all.
If we say that we have
fellowship with
him, and walk in darkness, we lie, and do not the truth:
If we say we have
fellowship with
Him yet walk in the darkness, we lie and do not practice the truth.
If we say that we have not
sinned, we make
him a
liar, and his word is not in us.
If we say we have not
sinned, we make
Him out to be a
liar, and His word is not in us.
And he is the
propitiation for our sins: and not for ours only, but also for the sins of the whole world.
He
Himself is the
atoning sacrifice for our sins, and not only for ours but also for the sins of the whole world.
And
hereby we do know that we know
him, if we keep his commandments.
By this we can be sure that we have come to know Him: if we keep His commandments.
He that saith, I know
him, and keepeth not his commandments, is a
liar, and the truth is not in
him.
If
anyone says, “I know
Him,” but does not keep His commandments, he is a
liar, and the truth is not in
him.
But
whoso keepeth his word, in
him verily is the love of God perfected:
hereby know we that we are in
him.
But if
anyone keeps His word, the love of God has been truly perfected in
him. By this we know that we are in
Him:
He that saith he abideth in him ought himself also so to walk, even as he walked.
Again, a new commandment I write unto you, which thing is true in him and in you: because the darkness is past, and the true light now shineth.
Then again, I am also writing to you a new commandment, which is true in
Him and also in you. For the darkness is
fading and the true light is already
shining.
He that loveth his brother abideth in the light, and there is none occasion of
stumbling in
him.
Whoever loves his brother remains in the light, and there is no cause of
stumbling in
him.
I write unto you, fathers, because ye have known him that is from the beginning. I write unto you, young men, because ye have overcome the wicked one. I write unto you, little children, because ye have known the Father.
I am writing to you, fathers, because you know Him who is from the beginning. I am writing to you, young men, because you have overcome the evil one. I have written to you, children, because you know the Father.
I have written unto you, fathers, because ye have known him that is from the beginning. I have written unto you, young men, because ye are strong, and the word of God abideth in you, and ye have overcome the wicked one.
I have written to you, fathers, because you know Him who is from the beginning. I have written to you, young men, because you are strong, and the word of God abides in you, and you have overcome the evil one.
Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him.
Do not love the world or anything in the world. If
anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in
him.
And this is the promise that he hath promised us, even eternal life.
And this is the promise that He Himself made to us: eternal life.
But the
anointing which ye have received of
him abideth in you, and ye need not that any man teach you: but as the same
anointing teacheth you of all things, and is truth, and is no lie, and even as it hath taught you, ye shall
abide in
him.
And as for you, the
anointing you received from
Him remains in you, and you do not need
anyone to teach you. But just as His true and genuine
anointing teaches you about all things, so remain in
Him as you have been taught.
And now, little children,
abide in
him; that, when he shall appear, we may have confidence, and not be
ashamed before
him at his coming.
And now, little children, remain in Christ, so that when He appears, we may be
confident and unashamed before
Him at His coming.
If ye know that he is righteous, ye know that every one that doeth righteousness is born of him.
If you know that He is righteous, you also know that
everyone who practices righteousness has been born of
Him.
Behold, what manner of love the Father hath bestowed upon us, that we should be called the sons of God: therefore the world knoweth us not, because it knew him not.
Behold what manner of love the Father has given to us, that we should be called children of God. And that is what we are! The reason the world does not know us is that it did not know Him.
Beloved, now are we the sons of God, and it
doth not yet appear what we shall be: but we know that, when he shall appear, we shall be like
him; for we shall see
him as he is.
Beloved, we are now children of God, and what we will be has not yet been revealed. We know that when Christ appears, we will be like Him, for we will see Him as He is.
And every man that hath this hope in him purifieth himself, even as he is pure.
And
everyone who has this hope in
Him purifies
himself, just as Christ is pure.
And ye know that he was manifested to take away our sins; and in him is no sin.
But you know that Christ appeared to take away sins, and in Him there is no sin.
Whosoever abideth in
him sinneth not:
whosoever sinneth hath not seen
him, neither known
him.
No one who remains in
Him keeps on
sinning. No one who continues to sin has seen
Him or known
Him.
Whosoever is born of God
doth not commit sin; for his seed remaineth in
him: and he cannot sin, because he is born of God.
Anyone born of God refuses to practice sin, because God’s seed abides in
him; he cannot go on
sinning, because he has been born of God.
Not as
Cain, who was of that wicked one, and
slew his brother. And wherefore
slew he
him? Because his own works were evil, and his brother’s righteous.
Do not be like
Cain, who belonged to the evil one and murdered his brother. And why did
Cain slay him? Because his own deeds were evil, while those of his brother were righteous.
Whosoever hateth his brother is a murderer: and ye know that no murderer hath eternal life
abiding in
him.
Everyone who hates his brother is a murderer, and you know that eternal life does not reside in a murderer.
But
whoso hath this world’s good, and
seeth his brother have need, and shutteth up his
bowels of
compassion from
him, how dwelleth the love of God in
him?
If
anyone with earthly possessions sees his brother in need, but withholds his
compassion from
him, how can the love of God
abide in
him?
And
hereby we know that we are of the truth, and shall
assure our hearts before
him.
And by this we will know that we belong to the truth, and will
assure our hearts in His presence:
And
whatsoever we ask, we receive of
him, because we keep his commandments, and do those things that are pleasing in his sight.
and we will receive from Him whatever we ask, because we keep His commandments and do what is pleasing in His sight.
