For let not that man think that he shall receive any thing of the Lord.
That man should not expect to receive anything from the Lord.
The brother in humble circumstances should
exult in his high position.
Let no man say when he is
tempted, I am
tempted of God: for God cannot be
tempted with evil, neither tempteth he any man:
Wherefore, my beloved brethren, let every man be swift to hear, slow to speak, slow to wrath:
My beloved brothers, understand this:
Everyone should be quick to
listen, slow to speak, and slow to anger,
Who is a wise man and
endued with knowledge among you?
let him
shew out of a good conversation his works with
meekness of wisdom.
Who is wise and understanding among you?
Let him show it by his good conduct, by deeds done in the
humility that comes from wisdom.
But above all things, my brethren,
swear not, neither by heaven, neither by the earth, neither by any other oath: but
let your
yea be
yea; and your
nay,
nay; lest ye fall into
condemnation.
Above all, my brothers, do not
swear, not by heaven or earth or by any other oath. Simply
let your “
Yes” be
yes, and your “No,” no, so that you will not fall under judgment.
Is any among you
afflicted?
let him pray. Is any
merry?
let him sing psalms.
Is any one of you suffering? He should pray. Is
anyone cheerful? He should sing praises.
Is any sick among you?
let him call for the elders of the church; and
let them pray over him,
anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord:
Is any one of you sick? He should call the elders of the church to pray over him and
anoint him with oil in the name of the Lord.
Let him know, that he which converteth the
sinner from the error of his way shall save a soul from death, and shall hide a multitude of sins.
consider this:
Whoever turns a
sinner from the error of his way will save his soul from death and cover over a multitude of sins.
But
let it be the hidden man of the heart, in that which is not corruptible, even the ornament of a
meek and quiet spirit, which is in the sight of God of great price.
but from the inner disposition of your heart, the
unfading beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is precious in God’s sight.
For he that will love life, and see good days,
let him
refrain his tongue from evil, and his lips that they speak no
guile:
For, “
Whoever would love life and see good days must keep his tongue from evil and his lips from
deceitful speech.
Let him
eschew evil, and do good;
let him seek peace, and
ensue it.
He must turn from evil and do good; he must seek peace and pursue it.
If any man speak,
let him speak as the oracles of God; if any man minister,
let him do it as of the ability which God giveth: that God in all things may be
glorified through Jesus Christ, to whom be praise and dominion for ever and ever.
Amen.
If
anyone speaks, he should speak as one conveying the words of God. If
anyone serves, he should serve with the strength God provides, so that in all things God may be
glorified through Jesus Christ, to whom be the glory and the power
forever and ever.
Amen.
But
let none of you suffer as a murderer, or as a
thief, or as an
evildoer, or as a
busybody in other men’s matters.
Yet if any man suffer as a Christian,
let him not be
ashamed; but
let him
glorify God on this behalf.
But if you suffer as a Christian, do not be
ashamed, but
glorify God that you bear that name.
Wherefore
let them that suffer according to the will of God commit the keeping of their souls to him in well doing, as unto a faithful
Creator.
So then, those who suffer according to God’s will should
entrust their souls to their faithful
Creator and continue to do good.
This second epistle, beloved, I now write unto you; in both which I
stir up your pure minds by way of
remembrance:
Beloved, this is now my second
letter to you. Both of them are reminders to
stir you to
wholesome thinking
But, beloved, be not ignorant of this one thing, that one day is with the Lord as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day.
Beloved, do not let this one thing escape your notice: With the Lord a day is like a thousand years, and a thousand years are like a day.
As also in all his epistles, speaking in them of these things; in which are some things hard to be understood, which they that are unlearned and unstable
wrest, as they do also the other scriptures, unto their own destruction.
He writes this way in all his
letters, speaking in them about such matters. Some parts of his
letters are hard to understand, which ignorant and unstable people
distort, as they do the rest of the Scriptures, to their own destruction.
Let that therefore
abide in you, which ye have heard from the beginning. If that which ye have heard from the beginning shall remain in you, ye also shall continue in the Son, and in the Father.
As for you, let what you have heard from the beginning remain in you. If it does, you will also remain in the Son and in the Father.
Little children,
let no man
deceive you: he that doeth righteousness is righteous, even as he is righteous.
Little children,
let no one
deceive you: The one who practices righteousness is righteous, just as Christ is righteous.
My little children, let us not love in word, neither in tongue; but in deed and in truth.
Little children, let us love not in word and speech, but in action and truth.
Beloved, let us love one another: for love is of God; and every one that loveth is born of God, and knoweth God.
Beloved,
let us love one another, because love comes from God.
Everyone who loves has been born of God and knows God.
He that hath an ear,
let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches; To him that overcometh will I give to eat of the tree of life, which is in the midst of the
paradise of God.
He who has an ear,
let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches. To the one who overcomes, I will grant the right to eat from the tree of life in the
Paradise of God.
He that hath an ear,
let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches; He that overcometh shall not be
hurt of the second death.
He who has an ear,
let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches. The one who overcomes will not be
harmed by the second death.
He that hath an ear,
let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches; To him that overcometh will I give to eat of the hidden
manna, and will give him a white stone, and in the stone a new name written, which no man knoweth saving he that receiveth it.
He who has an ear,
let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches. To the one who overcomes, I will give the hidden
manna. I will also give him a white stone inscribed with a new name, known only to the one who receives it.
He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches.
He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches.
He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches.
He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches.
He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches.
He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches.
He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches.
He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches.”
If any man have an ear, let him hear.
He who has an ear, let him hear:
Here is wisdom.
Let him that hath understanding count the number of the beast: for it is the number of a man; and his number is Six hundred
threescore and six.
Here is a call for wisdom:
Let the one who has insight
calculate the number of the beast, for it is the number of a man, and that number is 666.
Behold, I come as a
thief. Blessed is he that watcheth, and keepeth his garments, lest he walk naked, and they see his shame.
“Behold, I am coming like a
thief. Blessed is the one who remains
awake and clothed, so that he will not go naked and
let his shame be exposed.”
Let us be
glad and
rejoice, and give honour to him: for the marriage of the Lamb is come, and his wife hath made herself ready.
Let us
rejoice and be
glad and give Him the glory. For the marriage of the Lamb has come, and His
bride has made herself ready.
He that is unjust,
let him be unjust still: and he which is
filthy,
let him be
filthy still: and he that is righteous,
let him be righteous still: and he that is holy,
let him be holy still.
Let the unrighteous continue to be unrighteous, and the
vile continue to be
vile;
let the righteous continue to practice righteousness, and the holy continue to be holy.”
And the Spirit and the
bride say, Come. And
let him that heareth say, Come. And
let him that is
athirst come. And
whosoever will,
let him take the water of life freely.
The Spirit and the
bride say, “Come!”
Let the one who hears say, “Come!” And
let the one who is
thirsty come, and the one who desires the water of life drink freely.
If therefore there be any of you that are of his people,
let the Lord, even his Lord, be with him, and
let him go up to Jerusalem that is in
Judea, and build the house of the Lord of Israel: for he is the Lord that dwelleth in Jerusalem.
Whosoever then dwell in the places about,
let them help him, those, I say, that are his neighbours, with gold, and with silver,
But in the time of Artexerxes king of the Persians Belemus, and Mithridates, and Tabellius, and Rathumus, and Beeltethmus, and Semellius the secretary, with others that were in commission with them, dwelling in Samaria and other places, wrote unto him against them that dwelt in
Judea and Jerusalem these
letters following;
Then king Artexerxes his
letters being read, Rathumus, and Semellius the
scribe, and the rest that were in commission with them, removing in
haste toward Jerusalem with a
troop of
horsemen and a multitude of people in battle
array, began to hinder the builders; and the building of the temple in Jerusalem ceased until the second year of the reign of
Darius king of the Persians.
Let every one of us speak a sentence: he that shall overcome, and whose sentence shall seem wiser than the others, unto him shall the king
Darius give great gifts, and great things in
token of victory:
And
letting all those things go, do they not
gape, and even with open mouth fix their eyes fast on her; and have not all men more desire unto her than unto silver or gold, or any goodly thing
whatsoever?
Then
Darius the king stood up, and
kissed him, and wrote
letters for him unto all the treasurers and lieutenants and captains and governors, that they should safely convey on their way both him, and all those that go up with him to build Jerusalem.
He wrote
letters also unto the lieutenants that were in Celosyria and Phenice, and unto them in Libanus, that they should bring
cedar wood from Libanus unto Jerusalem, and that they should build the city with him.
And so he took the letters, and went out, and came unto Babylon, and told it all his brethren.
The copy of the
letters which Sisinnes, governor of Syria and Phenice, and Sathrabuzanes, with their companions, rulers in Syria and Phenice, wrote and sent unto
Darius; To king
Darius,
greeting:
Let all things be known unto our lord the king, that being come into the country of
Judea, and entered into the city of Jerusalem we found in the city of Jerusalem the ancients of the Jews that were of the captivity
Now therefore, if it seem good unto the king, let search be made among the records of king Cyrus:
And if it be found that the building of the house of the Lord at Jerusalem hath been done with the consent of king Cyrus, and if our lord the king be so minded,
let him
signify unto us thereof.
As many therefore as have a mind
thereunto,
let them depart with thee, as it hath seemed good both to me and my seven friends the counsellors;
Let all things be performed after the law of God
diligently unto the most high God, that wrath come not upon the kingdom of the king and his sons.
Of the sons of Phinees,
Gerson: of the sons of
Ithamar, Gamael: of the sons of David,
Lettus the son of Sechenias:
Let us make an oath to the Lord, that we will put away all our wives, which we have taken of the heathen, with their children,
Therefore let the rulers of the multitude stay, and let all them of our habitations that have strange wives come at the time appointed,
Let them be scattered abroad among the heathen,
let their names be put out of the earth: for they have
despised my covenant.
Heal the broken and the weak,
laugh not a
lame man to
scorn, defend the
maimed, and
let the blind man come into the sight of my clearness.
And said, Come, let us go and make war against the sea that it may depart away before us, and that we may make us more woods.
The floods of the sea also in like manner took counsel, and said, Come,
let us go up and
subdue the woods of the plain, that there also we may make us another country.
Then answered I and said, I
beseech thee, O Lord,
let me have understanding:
And I said, O Lord, thou spakest from the beginning of the creation, even the first day, and saidst thus; Let heaven and earth be made; and thy word was a perfect work.
Let it not be thy will to destroy them which have lived like beasts; but to look upon them that have clearly taught thy law.
I answered then and said, If I have found grace, let me speak.
Let the multitude perish then, which was born in vain; and
let my
grape be kept, and my plant; for with great labour have I made it perfect.
Then let I my thoughts go that I was in, and turned me unto her,
And she said unto me, Sir,
let me alone, that I may
bewail myself, and add unto my sorrow, for I am
sore vexed in my mind, and brought very low.
And therefore fear not,
let not thine heart be
affrighted, but go thy way in, and see the beauty and greatness of the building, as much as thine eyes be able to see:
But let the heads be preserved for the last.
Let go from thee
mortal thoughts, cast away the burdens of man, put off now the weak nature,
Let no man therefore come unto me now, nor seek after me these forty days.
Fear not the imaginations against thee,
let not the
incredulity of them trouble thee, that speak against thee.
He that selleth, let him be as he that fleeth away: and he that buyeth, as one that will lose:
Let not the
sinner say that he hath not
sinned: for God shall burn coals of fire upon his head, which saith before the Lord God and his glory, I have not
sinned.
Which spake but the word, Let the earth be made; and it was made: Let the heaven be made; and it was created.
And the guide of them who keep my commandments and precepts, saith the Lord God:
let not your sins
weigh you down, and
let not your
iniquities lift up themselves.
Wherefore
dost thou beat us for them? if they be dead, go thy ways after them,
let us never see of thee either son or daughter.
Then she prayed toward the window, and said, Blessed art thou, O Lord my God, and thine holy and glorious name is blessed and honourable for ever: let all thy works praise thee for ever.
My son, be mindful of the Lord our God all thy days, and
let not thy will be set to sin, or to
transgress his commandments: do uprightly all thy life long, and follow not the ways of unrighteousness.
Give
alms of thy substance; and when thou givest
alms,
let not thine eye be
envious, neither turn thy face from any poor, and the face of God shall not be turned away from thee.
Let not the wages of any man, which hath wrought for thee,
tarry with thee, but give him it out of hand: for if thou serve God, he will also repay thee: be
circumspect my son, in all things thou doest, and be wise in all thy conversation.
Do that to no man which thou hatest: drink not wine to make thee
drunken: neither
let drunkenness go with thee in thy journey.
Give of thy bread to the
hungry, and of thy garments to them that are naked; and according to thine abundance give
alms: and
let not thine eye be
envious, when thou givest
alms.
Bless the Lord thy God
alway, and desire of him that thy ways may be directed, and that all thy paths and counsels may
prosper: for every nation hath not counsel; but the Lord himself giveth all good things, and he humbleth whom he will, as he will; now therefore, my son, remember my commandments, neither
let them be put out of thy mind.
Be not
greedy to add money to money: but
let it be as refuse in respect of our child.
And likewise Edna his wife and Sara his daughter
wept. Moreover they entertained them
cheerfully; and after that they had killed a ram of the flock, they set store of meat on the table. Then said Tobias to Raphael, Brother Azarias, speak of those things of which thou
didst talk in the way, and
let this business be
dispatched.
And after that they were both shut in together, Tobias rose out of the bed, and said, Sister, arise, and
let us pray that God would have
pity on us.
Then began Tobias to say, Blessed art thou, O God of our fathers, and blessed is thy holy and glorious name for ever;
let the heavens
bless thee, and all thy creatures.
Thou madest Adam, and gavest him
Eve his wife for an helper and stay: of them came mankind: thou hast said, It is not good that man should be alone;
let us make unto him an aid like unto himself.
He said unto his wife Edna. Send one of the maids, and
let her see whether he be alive: if he be not, that we may
bury him, and no man know it.
Then Raguel praised God, and said, O God, thou art worthy to be praised with all pure and holy praise; therefore
let thy saints praise thee with all thy creatures; and
let all thine angels and thine
elect praise thee for ever.
Now I care for nothing, my son, since I have let thee go, the light of mine eyes.
But she said, Hold thy peace, and
deceive me not; my son is dead. And she went out every day into the way which they went, and did eat no meat on the
daytime, and ceased not whole nights to
bewail her son Tobias, until the fourteen days of the
wedding were
expired, which Raguel had
sworn that he should
spend there. Then Tobias said to Raguel,
Let me go, for my father and my mother look no more to see me.
But Tobias said, No; but let me go to my father.
Let us
haste before thy wife, and prepare the house.
Let all men speak, and let all praise him for his righteousness.
Give praise to the Lord, for he is good: and praise the
everlasting King, that his tabernacle may be builded in thee again with joy, and
let him make joyful there in thee those that are
captives, and love in thee for ever those that are
miserable.
Let my soul
bless God the great King.
But concerning them that
rebel,
let not thine eye
spare them; but put them to the slaughter, and
spoil them
wheresoever thou goest.
Then said Achior, the captain of all the sons of
Ammon,
Let my lord now hear a word from the mouth of thy servant, and I will declare unto thee the truth concerning this people, which dwelleth near thee, and inhabiteth the hill countries: and there shall no lie come out of the mouth of thy servant.
