For my
life is spent with grief, and my years with
sighing: my strength faileth because of mine iniquity, and my bones are consumed.
For my
life is consumed with grief and my years with
groaning; my iniquity has drained my strength, and my bones are wasting away.
For I have heard the
slander of many: fear was on every side: while they took counsel together against me, they devised to take away my
life.
For I hear the
slander of many; there is terror on every side. They
conspire against me and plot to take my
life.
What man is he that desireth life, and loveth many days, that he may see good?
Who is the man who delights in life, who desires to see good days?
Let them be confounded and put to shame that seek after my soul: let them be turned back and brought to confusion that
devise my
hurt.
May those who seek my
life be disgraced and put to shame; may those who plan to
harm me be driven back and confounded.
Lord, how long
wilt thou look on?
rescue my soul from their destructions, my
darling from the lions.
How long, O Lord, will You look on?
Rescue my soul from their ravages, my precious
life from these lions.

They also that seek after my
life lay snares for me: and they that seek my
hurt speak
mischievous things, and imagine deceits all the day long.
Those who seek my
life lay snares; those who wish me
harm speak destruction,
plotting deceit all day long.
LORD, make me to know mine end, and the measure of my days, what it is; that I may know how
frail I am.
“Show me, O LORD, my end and the measure of my days. Let me know how fleeting my life is.
Behold, thou hast made my days as an
handbreadth; and mine age is as nothing before thee:
verily every man at his best state is altogether vanity.
Selah.
You, indeed, have made my days as handbreadths, and my
lifetime as nothing before You. Truly each man at his best exists as but a breath.
Selah Let them be
ashamed and confounded together that seek after my soul to destroy it; let them be driven backward and put to shame that wish me evil.
Yet the LORD will command his lovingkindness in the
daytime, and in the night his song shall be with me, and my prayer unto the God of my
life.
The LORD decrees His loving devotion by day, and at night His song is with me as a prayer to the God of my life.
But God will
redeem my soul from the power of the grave: for he shall receive me.
Selah.
But God will
redeem my
life from
Sheol, for He will surely take me to Himself.
Selah Though while he lived he blessed his soul: and men will praise thee, when thou doest well to
thyself.
Though in his
lifetime he blesses his soul— and men praise you when you
prosper—
For strangers are risen up against me, and oppressors seek after my soul: they have not set God before them.
Selah.
For strangers rise up against me, and
ruthless men seek my
life— men with no regard for God.
Selah They gather themselves together, they hide themselves, they mark my steps, when they wait for my soul.
They
conspire, they
lurk, they watch my steps while they wait to take my
life.
For thou hast delivered my soul from death:
wilt not thou deliver my feet from falling, that I may walk before God in the light of the living?
For You have delivered my soul from death, and my feet from
stumbling, that I may walk before God in the light of
life.
Thou
wilt prolong the king’s
life: and his years as many generations.
Increase the days of the king’s life; may his years span many generations.

life, my lips will
glorify You.
But those that seek my soul, to destroy it, shall go into the lower parts of the earth.
But those who seek my life to destroy it will go into the depths of the earth.
Hear my voice, O God, in my prayer: preserve my life from fear of the enemy.
Hear, O God, my voice of
complaint; preserve my
life from
dread of the enemy.
Which holdeth our soul in life, and suffereth not our feet to be moved.
He preserves our lives and keeps our feet from
slipping.
Let them be
blotted out of the book of the living, and not be written with the righteous.
May they be
blotted out of the Book of
Life and not listed with the righteous.
Let them be
ashamed and confounded that seek after my soul: let them be turned backward, and put to confusion, that desire my
hurt.
For mine enemies speak against me; and they that lay wait for my soul take counsel together,
For my enemies speak against me, and those who lie in wait for my
life conspire,
He made a way to his anger; he
spared not their soul from death, but gave their
life over to the
pestilence;
He cleared a path for His anger; He did not
spare them from death but delivered their lives to the plague.
O God, the proud are risen against me, and the
assemblies of violent men have sought after my soul; and have not set thee before them.
The
arrogant rise against me, O God; a band of
ruthless men seeks my
life, with no regard for You.
For my soul is full of troubles: and my
life draweth
nigh unto the grave.
For my soul is full of troubles, and my
life draws near to
Sheol.
Remember how short my time is: wherefore hast thou made all men in vain?
Remember the briefness of my
lifespan! For what
futility You have created all men!
With long
life will I satisfy him, and
shew him my salvation.
With long life I will satisfy him and show him My salvation.”
Who redeemeth thy
life from destruction; who crowneth thee with lovingkindness and tender
mercies;
who redeems your
life from the Pit and crowns you with loving devotion and
compassion,
I will sing unto the LORD as long as I live: I will sing praise to my God while I have my being.
I will sing to the LORD all my life; I will sing praise to my God while I have my being.

Consider how I love Your precepts, O LORD; give me life according to Your loving devotion.
The LORD shall
bless thee out of
Zion: and thou shalt see the good of Jerusalem all the days of thy
life.
May the LORD
bless you from
Zion, that you may see the prosperity of Jerusalem all the days of your
life,
As the
dew of
Hermon, and as the
dew that descended upon the mountains of
Zion: for there the LORD commanded the blessing, even
life for
evermore.
It is like the
dew of
Hermon falling on the mountains of
Zion. For there the LORD has bestowed the blessing of
life forevermore.
For the enemy hath
persecuted my soul; he hath
smitten my
life down to the ground; he hath made me to dwell in darkness, as those that have been long dead.
For the enemy has pursued my soul,
crushing my
life to the ground, making me dwell in darkness like those long since dead.
While I live will I praise the LORD: I will sing praises unto my God while I have any being.

diligence, for from it flow springs of

mourn at the last, when thy flesh and thy body are consumed,
At the end of your
life you will
groan when your flesh and your body are spent,
For the commandment is a lamp; and the law is light; and reproofs of instruction are the way of life:
For this commandment is a lamp, this teaching is a light, and the reproofs of discipline are the way to life,
For by means of a
whorish woman a man is brought to a piece of bread: and the
adulteress will
hunt for the precious
life.
Till a
dart strike through his liver; as a bird hasteth to the
snare, and knoweth not that it is for his
life.
until an
arrow pierces his liver, like a bird
darting into a
snare— not knowing it will cost him his
life.
For
whoso findeth me findeth
life, and shall obtain favour of the LORD.
For
whoever finds me finds
life and obtains the favor of the LORD.
For by me thy days shall be multiplied, and the years of thy life shall be increased.
For through wisdom your days will be multiplied, and years will be added to your life.
The mouth of a righteous man is a well of life: but violence covereth the mouth of the wicked.
The mouth of the righteous is a fountain of life, but the mouth of the wicked conceals violence.

shortened.
The fear of the LORD prolongs life, but the years of the wicked will be cut short.

life of his beast: but the tender
mercies of the wicked are cruel.

mercies of the wicked are only cruelty.

life; and in the
pathway thereof there is no death.
There is life in the path of righteousness, but another path leads to death.

He who guards his mouth protects his life, but the one who opens his lips invites his own ruin.
The
ransom of a man’s
life are his riches: but the poor heareth not
rebuke.
Riches may
ransom a man’s
life, but a poor man hears no
threat.

deferred maketh the heart sick: but when the desire cometh, it is a tree of
life.
Hope
deferred makes the heart sick, but desire fulfilled is a tree of
life.

The fear of the LORD is a fountain of life, to depart from the snares of death.
The fear of the LORD is a fountain of life, turning a man from the snares of death.
A sound heart is the
life of the flesh: but
envy the
rottenness of the bones.
A
tranquil heart is
life to the body, but
envy rots the bones.

life is above to the wise, that he may depart from
hell beneath.
The path of
life leads upward for the wise, that he may avoid going down to
Sheol.

He who listens to life-giving reproof will dwell among the wise.
In the light of the king’s countenance is life; and his favour is as a cloud of the latter rain.

The
highway of the upright is to depart from evil: he that keepeth his way preserveth his soul.
The
highway of the upright leads away from evil; he who guards his way protects his
life.
Understanding is a
wellspring of
life unto him that hath it: but the instruction of fools is folly.
Understanding is a fountain of
life to its
possessor, but the discipline of fools is folly.

harm.
The fear of a king is as the
roaring of a lion:
whoso provoketh him to anger sinneth against his own soul.
The terror of a king is like the
roar of a lion;
whoever provokes him forfeits his own
life.
He that followeth after righteousness and mercy findeth life, righteousness, and honour.

Listen to your father who gave you
life, and do not
despise your mother when she is old.
If thou sayest, Behold, we knew it not;
doth not he that pondereth the heart consider it? and he that keepeth thy soul,
doth not he know it? and shall not he render to every man according to his works?
If you say, “Behold, we did not know about this,” does not He who weighs hearts consider it? Does not the One who guards your life know? Will He not repay a man according to his deeds?
She will do him good and not evil all the days of her life.
She brings him good and not
harm all the days of her
life.
I sought in mine heart to give myself unto wine, yet
acquainting mine heart with wisdom; and to lay hold on folly, till I might see what was that good for the sons of men, which they should do under the heaven all the days of their
life.
I sought to
cheer my body with wine and to embrace folly—my mind still guiding me with wisdom—until I could see what was
worthwhile for men to do under heaven during the few days of their lives.
Therefore I
hated life; because the work that is wrought under the sun is
grievous unto me: for all is vanity and
vexation of spirit.
So I
hated life, because the work that is done under the sun was
grievous to me. For everything is
futile and a pursuit of the wind.
I know that there is no good in them, but for a man to
rejoice, and to do good in his
life.
I know that there is nothing better for them than to
rejoice and do good while they live,
Behold that which I have seen: it is good and comely for one to eat and to drink, and to enjoy the good of all his labour that he taketh under the sun all the days of his life, which God giveth him: for it is his portion.
Here is what I have seen to be good and fitting: to eat and drink, and to find satisfaction in all the labor one does under the sun during the few days of life that God has given him—for this is his lot.
For he shall not much remember the days of his life; because God answereth him in the joy of his heart.
For a man seldom considers the days of his life, because God keeps him occupied with the joy of his heart.
For who knoweth what is good for man in this life, all the days of his vain life which he spendeth as a shadow? for who can tell a man what shall be after him under the sun?
For who knows what is good for a man during the few days in which he passes through his fleeting life like a shadow? Who can tell a man what will come after him under the sun?
For wisdom is a defence, and money is a defence: but the
excellency of knowledge is, that wisdom giveth
life to them that have it.
For wisdom, like money, is a shelter, and the advantage of knowledge is that wisdom preserves the life of its owner.
All things have I seen in the days of my vanity: there is a just man that perisheth in his righteousness, and there is a wicked man that prolongeth his life in his wickedness.
In my
futile life I have seen both of these: A righteous man perishing in his righteousness, and a wicked man living long in his wickedness.
Then I
commended mirth, because a man hath no better thing under the sun, than to eat, and to drink, and to be
merry: for that shall
abide with him of his labour the days of his
life, which God giveth him under the sun.
So I
commended the enjoyment of
life, because there is nothing better for a man under the sun than to eat and drink and be
merry. For this joy will
accompany him in his labor during the days of his
life that God gives him under the sun.
Live
joyfully with the wife whom thou lovest all the days of the
life of thy vanity, which he hath given thee under the sun, all the days of thy vanity: for that is thy portion in this
life, and in thy labour which thou takest under the sun.
Enjoy life with your beloved wife all the days of the fleeting life that God has given you under the sun—all your fleeting days. For this is your portion in life and in your labor under the sun.
A feast is made for
laughter, and wine maketh
merry: but money answereth all things.
A feast is prepared for
laughter, and wine makes
life merry, but money is the answer for everything.
And
Heshbon shall cry, and Elealeh: their voice shall be heard even unto Jahaz: therefore the armed soldiers of Moab shall cry out; his
life shall be
grievous unto him.
Heshbon and Elealeh cry out; their voices are heard as far as Jahaz. Therefore the soldiers of Moab cry out; their souls
tremble within.
And it shall come to pass in that day, that Tyre shall be forgotten seventy years, according to the days of one king: after the end of seventy years shall Tyre sing as an
harlot.
At that time Tyre will be forgotten for seventy years—the span of a king’s
life. But at the end of seventy years, it will happen to Tyre as in the song of the
harlot:
We have been with child, we have been in pain, we have as it were brought forth wind; we have not wrought any
deliverance in the earth; neither have the inhabitants of the world fallen.
We were with child; we
writhed in pain; but we gave birth to wind. We have given no salvation to the earth, nor brought any
life into the world.
