Shall a man make gods unto himself, and they are no gods?
Can man make gods for himself? Such are not gods!”
Therefore, behold, I will this once cause them to know, I will cause them to know mine hand and my might; and they shall know that my name is The LORD.
“Therefore behold, I will inform them, and this time I will make them know My power and My might; then they will know that My name is the LORD.
Thus saith the LORD;
Cursed be the man that trusteth in man, and
maketh flesh his arm, and whose heart departeth from the LORD.
This is what the LORD says: “
Cursed is the man who trusts in mankind, who
makes the flesh his strength and turns his heart from the LORD.
As the
partridge sitteth on eggs, and hatcheth them not; so he that getteth riches, and not by right, shall leave them in the midst of his days, and at his end shall be a
fool.
Like a
partridge hatching eggs it did not lay is the man who
makes a fortune unjustly. In the middle of his days his riches will desert him, and in the end he will be the
fool.”
And the vessel that he made of clay was
marred in the hand of the
potter: so he made it again another vessel, as seemed good to the
potter to
make it.
But the vessel that he was shaping from the clay became
flawed in his hand; so he formed it into another vessel, as it seemed best for him to do.
Now therefore go to, speak to the men of Judah, and to the inhabitants of Jerusalem, saying, Thus saith the LORD; Behold, I frame evil against you, and
devise a
device against you: return ye now every one from his evil way, and
make your ways and your doings good.
Now therefore, tell the men of Judah and the residents of Jerusalem that this is what the LORD says: ‘Behold, I am
planning a
disaster for you and
devising a plan against you. Turn now, each of you, from your evil ways, and correct your ways and deeds.’
Because my people hath forgotten me, they have burned incense to vanity, and they have caused them to
stumble in their ways from the ancient paths, to walk in paths, in a way not cast up;
Yet My people have forgotten Me. They burn incense to worthless idols that
make them
stumble in their ways, leaving the ancient roads to walk on
rutted bypaths instead of on the
highway.
Then said they, Come, and let us
devise devices against Jeremiah; for the law shall not perish from the priest, nor counsel from the wise, nor the word from the prophet. Come, and let us
smite him with the tongue, and let us not give
heed to any of his words.
Then some said, “Come, let us
make plans against Jeremiah, for the law will never be lost to the priest, nor counsel to the wise, nor an
oracle to the prophet. Come, let us
denounce him and pay no
heed to any of his words.”
And I will make void the counsel of Judah and Jerusalem in this place; and I will cause them to fall by the sword before their enemies, and by the hands of them that seek their lives: and their carcases will I give to be meat for the fowls of the heaven, and for the beasts of the earth.
And in this place I will ruin the plans of Judah and Jerusalem. I will
make them fall by the sword before their enemies, by the hands of those who seek their lives, and I will give their
carcasses as food to the birds of the air and the beasts of the earth.
And I will
make this city
desolate, and an
hissing; every one that passeth thereby shall be
astonished and hiss because of all the plagues thereof.
And I will cause them to eat the flesh of their sons and the flesh of their daughters, and they shall eat every one the flesh of his friend in the siege and straitness,
wherewith their enemies, and they that seek their lives, shall
straiten them.
I will make them eat the flesh of their sons and daughters, and they will eat one another’s flesh in the siege and distress inflicted on them by their enemies who seek their lives.’
Thus will I do unto this place, saith the LORD, and to the inhabitants thereof, and even
make this city as
Tophet:
This is what I will do to this place and to its residents, declares the LORD. I will make this city like Topheth.
For thus saith the LORD, Behold, I will
make thee a terror to
thyself, and to all thy friends: and they shall fall by the sword of their enemies, and thine eyes shall behold it: and I will give all Judah into the hand of the king of Babylon, and he shall carry them
captive into Babylon, and shall
slay them with the sword.
For this is what the LORD says: ‘I will
make you a terror to
yourself and to all your friends. They will fall by the sword of their enemies before your very eyes. And I will hand Judah over to the king of Babylon, and he will carry them away to Babylon and put them to the sword.
Then I said, I will not
make mention of him, nor speak any more in his name. But his word was in mine heart as a burning fire shut up in my bones, and I was
weary with
forbearing, and I could not stay.
If I say, “I will not mention Him or speak any more in His name,” His message becomes a fire burning in my heart, shut up in my bones, and I become
weary of holding it in, and I cannot prevail.
Enquire, I pray thee, of the LORD for us; for Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon
maketh war against us; if so be that the LORD will deal with us according to all his
wondrous works, that he may go up from us.
“Please inquire of the LORD on our behalf, since
Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon is
waging war against us. Perhaps the LORD will perform for us something like all His past wonders, so that
Nebuchadnezzar will withdraw from us.”
For thus saith the LORD unto the king’s house of Judah; Thou art
Gilead unto me, and the head of
Lebanon: yet surely I will
make thee a wilderness, and cities which are not inhabited.
For this is what the LORD says concerning the house of the king of Judah: “You are like
Gilead to Me, like the summit of
Lebanon; but I will surely turn you into a desert, like cities that are uninhabited.
Woe unto him that buildeth his house by unrighteousness, and his chambers by wrong; that useth his neighbour’s service without wages, and giveth him not for his work;
“
Woe to him who builds his palace by unrighteousness, and his upper rooms without justice, who
makes his countrymen serve without pay, and fails to pay their wages,
Shalt thou reign, because thou closest
thyself in
cedar? did not thy father eat and drink, and do judgment and justice, and then it was well with him?
Does it
make you a king to
excel in
cedar? Did not your father have food and drink? He administered justice and righteousness, and so it went well with him.
O inhabitant of
Lebanon, that
makest thy nest in the cedars, how
gracious shalt thou be when pangs come upon thee, the pain as of a woman in
travail!
Therefore thus saith the LORD of hosts concerning the prophets; Behold, I will feed them with
wormwood, and
make them drink the water of gall: for from the prophets of Jerusalem is
profaneness gone forth into all the land.
Therefore this is what the LORD of Hosts says concerning the prophets: “I will feed them
wormwood and give them poisoned water to drink, for from the prophets of Jerusalem
ungodliness has spread throughout the land.”
Thus saith the LORD of hosts,
Hearken not unto the words of the prophets that
prophesy unto you: they
make you vain: they speak a vision of their own heart, and not out of the mouth of the LORD.
This is what the LORD of Hosts says: “Do not
listen to the words of the prophets who
prophesy to you. They are filling you with false hopes. They speak visions from their own minds, not from the mouth of the LORD.
Which think to cause my people to
forget my name by their dreams which they tell every man to his neighbour, as their fathers have forgotten my name for
Baal.
They suppose the dreams that they tell one another will
make My people
forget My name, just as their fathers
forgot My name through the worship of
Baal.
But since ye say, The burden of the LORD; therefore thus saith the LORD; Because ye say this word, The burden of the LORD, and I have sent unto you, saying, Ye shall not say, The burden of the LORD;
But if you claim, ‘This is the burden of the LORD,’ then this is what the LORD says: Because you have said, ‘This is the burden of the LORD,’ and I specifically told you not to make this claim,
And I will deliver them to be removed into all the kingdoms of the earth for their
hurt, to be a reproach and a
proverb, a
taunt and a
curse, in all places
whither I shall drive them.
Behold, I will send and take all the families of the north, saith the LORD, and Nebuchadrezzar the king of Babylon, my servant, and will bring them against this land, and against the inhabitants thereof, and against all these nations round about, and will utterly destroy them, and
make them an
astonishment, and an
hissing, and perpetual desolations.
behold, I will
summon all the families of the north, declares the LORD, and I will send for My servant
Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon, whom I will bring against this land, against its residents, and against all the surrounding nations. So I will
devote them to destruction and
make them an object of
horror and contempt, an
everlasting desolation.
And it shall come to pass, when seventy years are accomplished, that I will
punish the king of Babylon, and that nation, saith the LORD, for their iniquity, and the land of the Chaldeans, and will
make it perpetual desolations.
But when seventy years are complete, I will
punish the king of Babylon and that nation, the land of the Chaldeans, for their guilt, declares the LORD, and I will
make it an
everlasting desolation.
For thus saith the LORD God of Israel unto me; Take the wine cup of this
fury at my hand, and cause all the nations, to whom I send thee, to drink it.
This is what the LORD, the God of Israel, said to me: “Take from My hand this cup of the wine of wrath, and make all the nations to whom I send you drink from it.
To wit, Jerusalem, and the cities of Judah, and the kings thereof, and the princes thereof, to
make them a
desolation, an
astonishment, an
hissing, and a
curse; as it is this day;
to
make them a ruin, an object of
horror and contempt and
cursing, as they are to this day—Jerusalem and the cities of Judah, its kings and officials;
Then will I
make this house like
Shiloh, and will
make this city a
curse to all the nations of the earth.
then I will
make this house like
Shiloh, and I will
make this city an object of
cursing among all the nations of the earth.’”
Thus saith the LORD to me; Make thee bonds and yokes, and put them upon thy neck,
This is what the LORD said to me: “
Make for
yourself a yoke out of leather straps and put it on your neck.
But if they be prophets, and if the word of the LORD be with them, let them now
make intercession to the LORD of hosts, that the vessels which are left in the house of the LORD, and in the house of the king of Judah, and at Jerusalem, go not to Babylon.
If they are indeed prophets and the word of the LORD is with them, let them now
plead with the LORD of Hosts that the articles remaining in the house of the LORD, in the palace of the king of Judah, and in Jerusalem, not be taken to Babylon.
Go and tell Hananiah, saying, Thus saith the LORD; Thou hast broken the yokes of wood; but thou shalt make for them yokes of iron.
“Go and tell Hananiah that this is what the LORD says: ‘You have broken a yoke of wood, but in its place you have fashioned a yoke of iron.’
For thus saith the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel; I have put a yoke of iron upon the neck of all these nations, that they may serve
Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon; and they shall serve him: and I have given him the beasts of the field also.
For this is what the LORD of Hosts, the God of Israel, says: ‘I have put a yoke of iron on the neck of all these nations to
make them serve
Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon, and they will serve him. I have even given him control of the beasts of the field.’”
Then said the prophet Jeremiah unto Hananiah the prophet, Hear now, Hananiah; The LORD hath not sent thee; but thou makest this people to trust in a lie.
Then the prophet Jeremiah said to the prophet Hananiah, “
Listen, Hananiah! The LORD did not send you, but you have persuaded this people to trust in a lie.
Thus saith the LORD of hosts; Behold, I will send upon them the sword, the famine, and the
pestilence, and will
make them like
vile figs, that cannot be eaten, they are so evil.
this is what the LORD of Hosts says: “I will send against them sword and famine and plague, and I will
make them like
rotten figs, so bad they cannot be eaten.
And I will
persecute them with the sword, with the famine, and with the
pestilence, and will deliver them to be removed to all the kingdoms of the earth, to be a
curse, and an
astonishment, and an
hissing, and a reproach, among all the nations
whither I have driven them:
I will pursue them with sword and famine and plague. I will
make them a
horror to all the kingdoms of the earth—a
curse, a
desolation, and an object of
scorn and reproach among all the nations to which I
banish them.
And of them shall be taken up a
curse by all the captivity of Judah which are in Babylon, saying, The LORD
make thee like
Zedekiah and like
Ahab, whom the king of Babylon
roasted in the fire;
Because of them, all the exiles of Judah who are in Babylon will use this
curse: ‘May the LORD
make you like
Zedekiah and
Ahab, whom the king of Babylon
roasted in the fire!’
The LORD hath made thee priest in the
stead of Jehoiada the priest, that ye should be officers in the house of the LORD, for every man that is
mad, and
maketh himself a prophet, that thou shouldest put him in prison, and in the stocks.
‘The LORD has appointed you priest in place of Jehoiada, to be the chief officer in the house of the LORD, responsible for any
madman who acts like a prophet—you must put him in stocks and neck irons.
Now therefore why hast thou not reproved Jeremiah of Anathoth, which maketh himself a prophet to you?
So now, why have you not
rebuked Jeremiah of Anathoth, who poses as a prophet among you?
Therefore fear thou not, O my servant Jacob, saith the LORD; neither be dismayed, O Israel: for, lo, I will save thee from
afar, and thy seed from the land of their captivity; and Jacob shall return, and shall be in rest, and be quiet, and none shall
make him afraid.
As for you, O Jacob My servant, do not be afraid, declares the LORD, and do not be dismayed, O Israel. For I will surely save you out of a distant place, your descendants from the land of their captivity! Jacob will return to quiet and ease, with no one to make him afraid.
For I am with thee, saith the LORD, to save thee: though I
make a full end of all nations
whither I have scattered thee, yet will I not
make a full end of thee: but I will correct thee in measure, and will not leave thee altogether unpunished.
For I am with you to save you, declares the LORD. Though I will completely destroy all the nations to which I have scattered you, I will not completely destroy you. Yet I will discipline you justly, and will by no means leave you unpunished.”
And out of them shall proceed
thanksgiving and the voice of them that
make merry: and I will multiply them, and they shall not be few; I will also
glorify them, and they shall not be small.
Thanksgiving will proceed from them, a sound of
celebration. I will multiply them, and they will not be decreased; I will honor them, and they will not be
belittled.
Again I will build thee, and thou shalt be built, O virgin of Israel: thou shalt again be adorned with thy tabrets, and shalt go forth in the dances of them that
make merry.
Again I will build you, and you will be rebuilt, O Virgin Israel. Again you will take up your tambourines and go out in joyful dancing.
For thus saith the LORD; Sing with
gladness for Jacob, and
shout among the chief of the nations:
publish ye, praise ye, and say, O LORD, save thy people, the
remnant of Israel.
For this is what the LORD says: “Sing with joy for Jacob;
shout for the foremost of the nations!
Make your praises heard, and say, ‘O LORD, save Your people, the
remnant of Israel!’
They shall come with
weeping, and with supplications will I lead them: I will cause them to walk by the rivers of waters in a straight way, wherein they shall not
stumble: for I am a father to Israel, and Ephraim is my
firstborn.
They will come with
weeping, and by their
supplication I will lead them; I will
make them walk beside streams of waters, on a level path where they will not
stumble. For I am Israel’s Father, and Ephraim is My
firstborn.”
Then shall the virgin
rejoice in the dance, both young men and old together: for I will turn their
mourning into joy, and will comfort them, and
make them
rejoice from their sorrow.
Then the maidens will
rejoice with dancing, young men and old as well. I will turn their
mourning into joy, and give them comfort and joy for their sorrow.
Set thee up waymarks,
make thee high heaps: set thine heart toward the
highway, even the way which thou wentest: turn again, O virgin of Israel, turn again to these thy cities.
“Set up the roadmarks, establish the signposts. Keep the
highway in mind, the road you have traveled. Return, O Virgin Israel, return to these cities of yours.
Behold, the days come, saith the LORD, that I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel, and with the house of Judah:
Behold, the days are coming, declares the LORD, when I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel and with the house of Judah.
But this shall be the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel; After those days, saith the LORD, I will put my law in their inward parts, and write it in their hearts; and will be their God, and they shall be my people.
“But this is the covenant I will
make with the house of Israel after those days, declares the LORD. I will put My law in their minds and
inscribe it on their hearts. And I will be their God, and they will be My people.
And they built the high places of
Baal, which are in the valley of the son of
Hinnom, to cause their sons and their daughters to pass through the fire unto
Molech; which I commanded them not, neither came it into my mind, that they should do this
abomination, to cause Judah to sin.
They have built the high places of
Baal in the Valley of
Hinnom to
make their sons and daughters pass through the fire to
Molech—something I never commanded them, nor had it ever entered My mind, that they should commit such an
abomination and cause Judah to sin.
Behold, I will gather them out of all countries,
whither I have driven them in mine anger, and in my
fury, and in great wrath; and I will bring them again unto this place, and I will cause them to dwell safely:
I will surely gather My people from all the lands to which I have banished them in My
furious anger and great wrath, and I will return them to this place and
make them dwell in safety.
And I will
make an
everlasting covenant with them, that I will not turn away from them, to do them good; but I will put my fear in their hearts, that they shall not depart from me.
I will
make an
everlasting covenant with them: I will never turn away from doing good to them, and I will put My fear in their hearts, so that they will never turn away from Me.
Thus saith the LORD the maker thereof, the LORD that formed it, to establish it; the LORD is his name;
“Thus says the LORD who made the earth, the LORD who formed it and established it, the LORD is His name:
Therefore thus saith the LORD; Ye have not
hearkened unto me, in
proclaiming liberty, every one to his brother, and every man to his neighbour: behold, I
proclaim a liberty for you, saith the LORD, to the sword, to the
pestilence, and to the famine; and I will
make you to be removed into all the kingdoms of the earth.
Therefore this is what the LORD says: You have not obeyed Me; you have not proclaimed freedom, each man for his brother and for his
neighbor. So now I
proclaim freedom for you, declares the LORD—freedom to fall by sword, by plague, and by famine! I will
make you a
horror to all the kingdoms of the earth.
Behold, I will command, saith the LORD, and cause them to return to this city; and they shall fight against it, and take it, and burn it with fire: and I will
make the cities of Judah a
desolation without an inhabitant.
Behold, I am going to give the command, declares the LORD, and I will bring them back to this city. They will fight against it, capture it, and burn it down. And I will
make the cities of Judah a
desolation, without inhabitant.”
And when we burned incense to the queen of heaven, and poured out drink offerings unto her, did we make her cakes to worship her, and pour out drink offerings unto her, without our men?
“Moreover,” said the women, “when we burned incense to the Queen of Heaven and poured out drink offerings to her, was it without our husbands’ knowledge that we made
sacrificial cakes in her image and poured out drink offerings to her?”
But fear not thou, O my servant Jacob, and be not dismayed, O Israel: for, behold, I will save thee from
afar off, and thy seed from the land of their captivity; and Jacob shall return, and be in rest and at ease, and none shall
make him afraid.
But you, O Jacob My servant, do not be afraid, and do not be dismayed, O Israel. For I will surely save you out of a distant place, your descendants from the land of their captivity! Jacob will return to quiet and ease, with no one to make him afraid.
Fear thou not, O Jacob my servant, saith the LORD: for I am with thee; for I will
make a full end of all the nations
whither I have driven thee: but I will not
make a full end of thee, but correct thee in measure; yet will I not leave thee wholly unpunished.
And you, My servant Jacob, do not be afraid, declares the LORD, for I am with you. Though I will completely destroy all the nations to which I have banished you, I will not completely destroy you. Yet I will discipline you justly, and will by no means leave you unpunished.”
O ye that dwell in Moab, leave the cities, and dwell in the rock, and be like the
dove that
maketh her nest in the sides of the hole’s mouth.
Abandon the towns and settle among the rocks, O dwellers of Moab! Be like a
dove that nests at the mouth of a cave.
Moreover I will cause to cease in Moab, saith the LORD, him that offereth in the high places, and him that burneth incense to his gods.
In Moab, declares the LORD, I will bring an end to those who make offerings on the high places and burn incense to their gods.
For, lo, I will
make thee small among the heathen, and
despised among men.
“For behold, I will
make you small among nations,
despised among men.
Thy terribleness hath
deceived thee, and the pride of thine heart, O thou that dwellest in the clefts of the rock, that holdest the height of the hill: though thou shouldest
make thy nest as high as the eagle, I will bring thee down from thence, saith the LORD.
The terror you cause and the pride of your heart have
deceived you, O dwellers in the clefts of the rocks, O occupiers of the mountain summit. Though you
elevate your nest like the eagle, even from there I will bring you down,” declares the LORD.
Behold, he shall come up like a lion from the swelling of Jordan against the
habitation of the strong: but I will suddenly
make him run away from her: and who is a chosen man, that I may
appoint over her? for who is like me? and who will
appoint me the time? and who is that
shepherd that will stand before me?
Behold, one will come up like a lion from the thickets of the Jordan to the watered pasture. For in an instant I will
chase Edom from her land. Who is the chosen one I will
appoint for this? For who is like Me, and who can
challenge Me? What
shepherd can stand against Me?”
Therefore hear the counsel of the LORD, that he hath taken against
Edom; and his purposes, that he hath purposed against the inhabitants of Teman: Surely the least of the flock shall draw them out: surely he shall
make their habitations
desolate with them.
Therefore hear the plans that the LORD has drawn up against
Edom and the strategies He has devised against the people of Teman: Surely the little ones of the flock will be
dragged away; certainly their pasture will be made
desolate because of them.
For out of the north there cometh up a nation against her, which shall
make her land
desolate, and none shall dwell therein: they shall remove, they shall depart, both man and beast.
For a nation from the north will come against her; it will
make her land a
desolation. No one will live in it; both man and beast will
flee.”
Behold, he shall come up like a lion from the swelling of Jordan unto the
habitation of the strong: but I will
make them suddenly run away from her: and who is a chosen man, that I may
appoint over her? for who is like me? and who will
appoint me the time? and who is that
shepherd that will stand before me?
Behold, one will come up like a lion from the thickets of the Jordan to the watered pasture. For in an instant I will
chase Babylon from her land. Who is the chosen one I will
appoint for this? For who is like Me, and who can
challenge Me? What
shepherd can stand against Me?”
Therefore hear ye the counsel of the LORD, that he hath taken against Babylon; and his purposes, that he hath purposed against the land of the Chaldeans: Surely the least of the flock shall draw them out: surely he shall
make their
habitation desolate with them.
Therefore hear the plans that the LORD has drawn up against Babylon and the strategies He has devised against the land of the Chaldeans: Surely the little ones of the flock will be
dragged away; certainly their pasture will be made
desolate because of them.
Make bright the arrows; gather the shields: the LORD hath raised up the spirit of the kings of the Medes: for his
device is against Babylon, to destroy it; because it is the
vengeance of the LORD, the
vengeance of his temple.
Sharpen the arrows! Fill the quivers! The LORD has
aroused the spirit of the kings of the Medes, because His plan is aimed at Babylon to destroy her, for it is the
vengeance of the LORD—
vengeance for His temple.
Set up the standard upon the walls of Babylon,
make the watch strong, set up the
watchmen, prepare the ambushes: for the LORD hath both devised and done that which he spake against the inhabitants of Babylon.
Raise a
banner against the walls of Babylon; post the guard; station the
watchmen; prepare the
ambush. For the LORD has both devised and accomplished what He spoke against the people of Babylon.
When he uttereth his voice, there is a multitude of waters in the heavens; and he causeth the vapors to
ascend from the ends of the earth: he
maketh lightnings with rain, and bringeth forth the wind out of his treasures.
When He thunders, the waters in the heavens
roar; He causes the clouds to rise from the ends of the earth. He generates the
lightning with the rain and brings forth the wind from His storehouses.
The portion of Jacob is not like them; for he is the former of all things: and Israel is the rod of his inheritance: the LORD of hosts is his name.
The Portion of Jacob is not like these, for He is the Maker of all things, and of the tribe of His inheritance— the LORD of Hosts is His name.
Behold, I am against thee, O destroying mountain, saith the LORD, which destroyest all the earth: and I will stretch out mine hand upon thee, and roll thee down from the rocks, and will make thee a burnt mountain.
“Behold, I am against you, O destroying mountain, you who
devastate the whole earth, declares the LORD. I will stretch out My hand against you; I will roll you over the cliffs and turn you into a
charred mountain.
And the land shall
tremble and sorrow: for every purpose of the LORD shall be performed against Babylon, to
make the land of Babylon a
desolation without an inhabitant.
The earth quakes and writhes because the LORD’s intentions against Babylon stand: to
make the land of Babylon a
desolation, without inhabitant.
Therefore thus saith the LORD; Behold, I will
plead thy cause, and take
vengeance for thee; and I will dry up her sea, and
make her springs dry.
Therefore this is what the LORD says: “Behold, I will
plead your case and take
vengeance on your behalf; I will dry up her sea and
make her springs run dry.
In their heat I will
make their feasts, and I will
make them
drunken, that they may
rejoice, and sleep a perpetual sleep, and not
wake, saith the LORD.
While they are
flushed with heat, I will serve them a feast, and I will
make them
drunk so that they may
revel; then they will fall
asleep forever and never
wake up, declares the LORD.
And I will
punish Bel in Babylon, and I will bring forth out of his mouth that which he hath
swallowed up: and the nations shall not flow together any more unto him:
yea, the wall of Babylon shall fall.
I will
punish Bel in Babylon. I will
make him
spew out what he
swallowed. The nations will no longer stream to him; even the wall of Babylon will fall.
And I will
make drunk her princes, and her wise men, her captains, and her rulers, and her mighty men: and they shall sleep a perpetual sleep, and not
wake, saith the King, whose name is the LORD of hosts.
I will
make her princes and wise men
drunk, along with her governors, officials, and warriors. Then they will fall
asleep forever and not
wake up,” declares the King, whose name is the LORD of Hosts.
Rejoice and be
glad, O daughter of
Edom, that dwellest in the land of
Uz; the cup also shall pass through unto thee: thou shalt be
drunken, and shalt
make thyself naked.
Behold, I have made thy face strong against their faces, and thy
forehead strong against their foreheads.
Behold, I will
make your face as hard as their faces, and your
forehead as hard as their foreheads.
As an
adamant harder than flint have I made thy
forehead: fear them not, neither be dismayed at their looks, though they be a
rebellious house.
I will
make your
forehead like a
diamond, harder than flint. Do not be afraid of them or dismayed at their presence, even though they are a
rebellious house.”
And I will
make thy tongue
cleave to the roof of thy mouth, that thou shalt be
dumb, and shalt not be to them a reprover: for they are a
rebellious house.
I will
make your tongue stick to the roof of your mouth, and you will be silent and unable to
rebuke them, though they are a
rebellious house.
Take thou also unto thee wheat, and barley, and beans, and lentiles, and
millet, and
fitches, and put them in one vessel, and
make thee bread thereof, according to the number of the days that thou shalt lie upon thy side, three hundred and
ninety days shalt thou eat thereof.
But take wheat, barley, beans, lentils,
millet, and
spelt; put them in a single container and
make them into bread for
yourself. This is what you are to eat during the 390 days you lie on your side.
Moreover I will make thee waste, and a reproach among the nations that are round about thee, in the sight of all that pass by.
I will make you a ruin and a disgrace among the nations around you, in the sight of all who pass by.
So will I stretch out my hand upon them, and
make the land
desolate,
yea, more
desolate than the wilderness toward Diblath, in all their habitations: and they shall know that I am the LORD.
I will stretch out My hand against them, and wherever they live I will
make the land a
desolate waste, from the wilderness to Diblah. Then they will know that I am the LORD.’”
They have
blown the
trumpet, even to
make all ready; but none goeth to the battle: for my wrath is upon all the multitude thereof.
They have
blown the
trumpet and made everything ready, but no one goes to war, for My wrath is upon the whole multitude.
As for the beauty of his ornament, he set it in majesty: but they made the images of their abominations and of their
detestable things therein: therefore have I set it far from them.
His beautiful ornaments they transformed into pride and used them to fashion their
vile images and
detestable idols. Therefore I will
make these into something unclean for them.
Make a chain: for the land is full of
bloody crimes, and the city is full of violence.
Forge the chain, for the land is full of crimes of
bloodshed, and the city is full of violence.
Wherefore I will bring the worst of the heathen, and they shall possess their houses: I will also
make the
pomp of the strong to cease; and their holy places shall be
defiled.
So I will bring the most wicked of nations to take possession of their houses. I will end the pride of the mighty, and their holy places will be
profaned.
And it came to pass, when I
prophesied, that Pelatiah the son of Benaiah died. Then fell I down upon my face, and
cried with a loud voice, and said,
Ah Lord GOD!
wilt thou
make a full end of the
remnant of Israel?
Now as I was
prophesying, Pelatiah son of Benaiah died. Then I fell facedown and
cried out in a loud voice, “Oh, Lord GOD, will You bring the
remnant of Israel to a complete end?”
Tell them therefore, Thus saith the Lord GOD; I will
make this
proverb to cease, and they shall no more use it as a
proverb in Israel; but say unto them, The days are at hand, and the effect of every vision.
Therefore tell them that this is what the Lord GOD says: ‘I will put an end to this
proverb, and in Israel they will no longer
recite it.’ But say to them: ‘The days are at hand when every vision will be fulfilled.
And say, Thus saith the Lord GOD;
Woe to the women that
sew pillows to all armholes, and
make kerchiefs upon the head of every
stature to
hunt souls! Will ye
hunt the souls of my people, and will ye save the souls alive that come unto you?
and tell them that this is what the Lord GOD says:
Woe to the women who
sew magic charms on their wrists and
make veils for the heads of people of every height, in order to
ensnare their souls. Will you
ensnare the souls of My people but preserve your own?
Wherefore thus saith the Lord GOD; Behold, I am against your
pillows,
wherewith ye there
hunt the souls to
make them fly, and I will
tear them from your arms, and will let the souls go, even the souls that ye
hunt to
make them fly.
Therefore this is what the Lord GOD says: See, I am against the magic charms with which you
ensnare souls like birds, and I will
tear them from your arms. So I will free the souls you have ensnared like birds.
And I will set my face against that man, and will
make him a sign and a
proverb, and I will cut him off from the midst of my people; and ye shall know that I am the LORD.
I will set My face against that man and
make him a sign and a
proverb; I will cut him off from among My people. Then you will know that I am the LORD.
Shall wood be taken thereof to do any work? or will men take a pin of it to
hang any vessel
thereon?
Can wood be taken from it to
make something useful? Or can one
make from it a
peg on which to
hang utensils?
And I will
make the land
desolate, because they have committed a
trespass, saith the Lord GOD.
Thus I will
make the land
desolate, because they have acted unfaithfully,’ declares the Lord GOD.”
In that thou buildest thine eminent place in the head of every way, and
makest thine high place in every street; and hast not been as an
harlot, in that thou scornest
hire;
But when you built your mounds at the head of every street and made your lofty shrines in every public square, you were not even like a
prostitute, because you
scorned payment.
So will I
make my
fury toward thee to rest, and my jealousy shall depart from thee, and I will be quiet, and will be no more
angry.
So I will lay to rest My wrath against you, and My jealousy will turn away from you. Then I will be calm and no longer
angry.
That thou mayest remember, and be confounded, and never open thy mouth any more because of thy shame, when I am
pacified toward thee for all that thou hast done, saith the Lord GOD.
so that when I
make atonement for all you have done, you will remember and be
ashamed and never again open your mouth because of your disgrace, declares the Lord GOD.”
