And he communed with them, saying, If it be your
mind that I should
bury my dead out of my sight; hear me, and intreat for me to Ephron the son of
Zohar,
“If you are willing for me to
bury my dead,” he said to them, “
listen to me, and approach Ephron son of
Zohar on my behalf
Which were a grief of
mind unto Isaac and to
Rebekah.
And they brought grief to Isaac and
Rebekah.
And his brethren
envied him; but his father observed the saying.
And his brothers were
jealous of him, but his father kept in
mind what he had said.
And it came to pass, when Pharaoh had let the people go, that God led them not through the way of the land of the Philistines, although that was near; for God said, Lest
peradventure the people
repent when they see war, and they return to Egypt:
When Pharaoh let the people go, God did not lead them along the road through the land of the Philistines, though it was shorter. For God said, “If the people face war, they might change their minds and return to Egypt.”
And it was told the king of Egypt that the people fled: and the heart of Pharaoh and of his servants was turned against the people, and they said, Why have we done this, that we have let Israel go from serving us?
When the king of Egypt was told that the people had fled, Pharaoh and his officials changed their minds about them and said, “What have we done? We have released Israel from serving us.”
And they put him in ward, that the mind of the LORD might be shewed them.
They placed him in
custody until the will of the LORD should be made clear to them.
And Moses said,
Hereby ye shall know that the LORD hath sent me to do all these works; for I have not done them of mine own
mind.
Then Moses said, “This is how you will know that the LORD has sent me to do all these things, for it was not my own doing:
God is not a man, that he should lie; neither the son of man, that he should
repent: hath he said, and shall he not do it? or hath he spoken, and shall he not make it good?
God is not a man, that He should lie, or a son of man, that He should change His
mind. Does He speak and not act? Does He promise and not
fulfill?
If Balak would give me his house full of silver and gold, I cannot go beyond the commandment of the LORD, to do either good or bad of mine own mind; but what the LORD saith, that will I speak?
that even if Balak were to give me his house full of silver and gold, I could not do anything of my own
accord, good or bad, to go beyond the command of the LORD? I will speak whatever the LORD says.
Therefore shall ye lay up these my words in your heart and in your soul, and bind them for a sign upon your hand, that they may be as
frontlets between your eyes.
Fix these words of mine in your hearts and
minds;
tie them as reminders on your hands and bind them on your foreheads.
And if a
Levite come from any of thy gates out of all Israel, where he
sojourned, and come with all the desire of his
mind unto the place which the LORD shall choose;
Now if a
Levite moves from any town of residence throughout Israel and comes in all earnestness to the place the LORD will choose,
The LORD will
afflict you with madness, blindness, and confusion of
mind,
And among these nations shalt thou find no ease, neither shall the sole of thy foot have rest: but the LORD shall give thee there a
trembling heart, and failing of eyes, and sorrow of
mind:
Among those nations you will find no
repose, not even a resting place for the sole of your foot. There the LORD will give you a
trembling heart, failing eyes, and a
despairing soul.
Yet the LORD hath not given you an heart to perceive, and eyes to see, and ears to hear, unto this day.
Yet to this day the LORD has not given you a mind to understand, eyes to see, or ears to hear.
And it shall come to pass, when all these things are come upon thee, the blessing and the
curse, which I have set before thee, and thou shalt call them to
mind among all the nations,
whither the LORD thy God hath driven thee,
“When all these things come upon you—the blessings and curses I have set before you—and you call them to mind in all the nations to which the LORD your God has banished you,
And it was so, that all that saw it said, There was no such deed done nor seen from the day that the children of Israel came up out of the land of Egypt unto this day: consider of it, take advice, and speak your minds.
And
everyone who saw it said, “Nothing like this has been seen or done from the day the Israelites came out of the land of Egypt until this day. Think it over, take counsel, and speak up!”
When she saw that she was
stedfastly minded to go with her, then she left speaking unto her.
When
Naomi saw that
Ruth was determined to go with her, she stopped trying to
persuade her.
And I will raise me up a faithful priest, that shall do according to that which is in mine heart and in my
mind: and I will build him a sure house; and he shall walk before mine
anointed for ever.
Then I will raise up for Myself a faithful priest. He will do whatever is in My heart and
mind. And I will build for him an
enduring house, and he will walk before My
anointed one for all time.
And as for thine
asses that were lost three days ago, set not thy
mind on them; for they are found. And on whom is all the desire of Israel? Is it not on thee, and on all thy father’s house?
As for the
donkeys you lost three days ago, do not
worry about them, for they have been found. And upon whom is all the desire of Israel, if not upon you and all your father’s house?”
And also the Strength of Israel will not lie nor
repent: for he is not a man, that he should
repent.
Moreover, the Glory of Israel does not lie or change His mind, for He is not a man, that He should change His mind.”
For, said Hushai, thou knowest thy father and his men, that they be mighty men, and they be
chafed in their
minds, as a bear
robbed of her whelps in the field: and thy father is a man of war, and will not
lodge with the people.
He continued, “You know your father and his men. They are mighty men, and as fierce as a wild bear
robbed of her cubs. Moreover, your father is a man of war who will not
spend the night with the troops.
And she came to Jerusalem with a very great train, with camels that bare spices, and very much gold, and precious stones: and when she was come to Solomon, she communed with him of all that was in her heart.
She arrived in Jerusalem with a very large
caravan—with camels bearing spices, gold in great abundance, and precious stones. So she came to Solomon and spoke to him all that was on her
mind.
But king
Joram was returned to be
healed in
Jezreel of the wounds which the Syrians had given him, when he fought with
Hazael king of Syria.) And
Jehu said, If it be your
minds, then let none go forth nor escape out of the city to go to tell it in
Jezreel.
but King
Joram had returned to
Jezreel to recover from the wounds he had suffered at the hands of the Arameans in the battle against
Hazael their king.) So
Jehu said, “If you commanders wish to make me king, then do not let
anyone escape from the city to go and tell it in
Jezreel.”
All these men of war, that could keep rank, came with a perfect heart to
Hebron, to make David king over all Israel: and all the rest also of Israel were of one heart to make David king.
All these men of war,
arrayed for battle, came to
Hebron fully determined to make David king over all Israel. And all the rest of the Israelites were of one
mind to make David king.
Be ye mindful always of his covenant; the word which he commanded to a thousand generations;
Remember His covenant
forever, the word He ordained for a thousand generations—
And David said to Solomon, My son, as for me, it was in my mind to build an house unto the name of the LORD my God:
“My son,” said David to Solomon, “it was in my heart to build a house for the Name of the LORD my God,
And thou, Solomon my son, know thou the God of thy father, and serve him with a perfect heart and with a willing
mind: for the LORD searcheth all hearts, and understandeth all the imaginations of the thoughts: if thou seek him, he will be found of thee; but if thou
forsake him, he will cast thee off for ever.
As for you, Solomon my son, know the God of your father and serve Him wholeheartedly and with a willing
mind, for the LORD searches every heart and understands the intent of every thought. If you seek Him, He will be found by you; but if you
forsake Him, He will
reject you
forever.
And the pattern of all that he had by the spirit, of the courts of the house of the LORD, and of all the chambers round about, of the
treasuries of the house of God, and of the
treasuries of the dedicated things:
The plans contained everything David had in
mind for the courts of the house of the LORD, for all the surrounding rooms, for the
treasuries of the house of God and of the dedicated things,
And when the queen of
Sheba heard of the fame of Solomon, she came to prove Solomon with hard questions at Jerusalem, with a very great company, and camels that bare spices, and gold in abundance, and precious stones: and when she was come to Solomon, she communed with him of all that was in her heart.
Now when the queen of
Sheba heard about the fame of Solomon, she came to test him with difficult questions. She arrived in Jerusalem with a very large
caravan—with camels bearing spices, gold in abundance, and precious stones. So she came to Solomon and spoke with him about all that was on her
mind.
And it came to pass after this, that
Joash was
minded to repair the house of the LORD.
Some time later,
Joash set his heart on repairing the house of the LORD.
I make a decree, that all they of the people of Israel, and of his priests and Levites, in my realm, which are
minded of their own
freewill to go up to Jerusalem, go with thee.
I
hereby decree that any
volunteers among the Israelites in my kingdom, including the priests and Levites, may go up with you to Jerusalem.
So built we the wall; and all the wall was joined together unto the half thereof: for the people had a mind to work.
So we rebuilt the wall until all of it was joined together up to half its height, for the people had a mind to work.
Then I sent unto him, saying, There are no such things done as thou sayest, but thou feignest them out of thine own heart.
Then I sent him this reply: “There is nothing to these rumors you are spreading; you are
inventing them in your own
mind.”
And refused to obey, neither were
mindful of thy wonders that thou
didst among them; but
hardened their necks, and in their rebellion appointed a captain to return to their
bondage: but thou art a God ready to
pardon,
gracious and
merciful, slow to anger, and of great kindness, and forsookest them not.
They refused to
listen and failed to remember the wonders You performed among them. They
stiffened their necks and appointed a leader to return them to their
bondage in Egypt. But You are a
forgiving God,
gracious and
compassionate, slow to anger and rich in loving devotion, and You did not
forsake them.
And these things hast thou
hid in thine heart: I know that this is with thee.
Yet You concealed these things in Your heart, and I know that this was in Your mind:
But I have understanding as well as you; I am not inferior to you:
yea, who knoweth not such things as these?
But I also have a mind; I am not inferior to you. Who does not know such things as these?
For thou hast
hid their heart from understanding: therefore shalt thou not
exalt them.
You have closed their
minds to understanding; therefore You will not
exalt them.
But he is in one mind, and who can turn him? and what his soul desireth, even that he doeth.
But He is unchangeable, and who can
oppose Him? He does what He desires.
Should it be according to thy
mind? he will
recompense it, whether thou refuse, or whether thou choose; and not I: therefore speak what thou knowest.
Should God repay you on your own terms when you have
disavowed His? You must choose, not I; so tell me what you know.
Who hath put wisdom in the inward parts? or who hath given understanding to the heart?
Who has put wisdom in the heart or given understanding to the mind?
Oh let the wickedness of the wicked come to an end; but establish the just: for the righteous God trieth the hearts and
reins.
Put an end to the evil of the wicked, but establish the righteous, O righteous God who searches hearts and minds.
What is man, that thou art mindful of him? and the son of man, that thou visitest him?
what is man that You are mindful of him, or the son of man that You care for him?
Examine me, O LORD, and prove me; try my
reins and my heart.
Test me, O LORD, and try me; examine my heart and mind.
I am forgotten as a dead man out of mind: I am like a broken vessel.
I am forgotten like a dead man, out of mind. I am like a broken vessel.
When I remember these things, I pour out my soul in me: for I had gone with the multitude, I went with them to the house of God, with the voice of joy and praise, with a multitude that kept
holyday.
These things come to
mind as I pour out my soul: how I walked with the multitude, leading the
procession to the house of God with shouts of joy and praise.
For they have consulted together with one consent: they are
confederate against thee:
For with one mind they plot together, they form an alliance against You—
For he knoweth our frame; he remembereth that we are dust.
For He knows our frame; He is mindful that we are dust.
He hath given meat unto them that fear him: he will ever be mindful of his covenant.
He provides food for those who fear Him; He remembers His covenant
forever.
The LORD hath been
mindful of us: he will
bless us; he will
bless the house of Israel; he will
bless the house of Aaron.
The LORD is
mindful of us; He will
bless us. He will
bless the house of Israel; He will
bless the house of Aaron;
I
hate vain thoughts: but thy law do I love.
The double-
minded I
despise, but Your law I love.
A man is praised according to his wisdom, but a twisted
mind is
despised.
The sacrifice of the wicked is
abomination: how much more, when he bringeth it with a wicked
mind?
The sacrifice of the wicked is
detestable— how much more so when brought with ill intent!
Bow down thine ear, and hear the words of the wise, and apply thine heart unto my knowledge.
Incline your ear and hear the words of the wise— apply your
mind to my knowledge—
Thine eyes shall behold strange women, and thine heart shall utter
perverse things.
Your eyes will see strange things, and your mind will utter perversities.
A
fool uttereth all his
mind: but a wise man keepeth it in till afterwards.
A
fool vents all his anger, but a wise man holds it back.
And I gave my heart to seek and search out by wisdom concerning all things that are done under heaven: this
sore travail hath God given to the sons of man to be exercised
therewith.
And I set my
mind to seek and
explore by wisdom all that is done under heaven. What a heavy burden God has laid upon the sons of men to occupy them!
I communed with mine own heart, saying, Lo, I am come to great estate, and have
gotten more wisdom than all they that have been before me in Jerusalem:
yea, my heart had great experience of wisdom and knowledge.
I said to myself, “Behold, I have grown and increased in wisdom beyond all those before me who were over Jerusalem, and my mind has observed a wealth of wisdom and knowledge.”
And I gave my heart to know wisdom, and to know madness and folly: I perceived that this also is
vexation of spirit.
So I set my mind to know wisdom and madness and folly; I learned that this, too, is a pursuit of the wind.
I sought in mine heart to give myself unto wine, yet
acquainting mine heart with wisdom; and to lay hold on folly, till I might see what was that good for the sons of men, which they should do under the heaven all the days of their life.
I sought to
cheer my body with wine and to embrace folly—my
mind still guiding me with wisdom—until I could see what was
worthwhile for men to do under heaven during the few days of their lives.
For all his days are sorrows, and his
travail grief;
yea, his heart taketh not rest in the night. This is also vanity.
Indeed, all his days are filled with grief, and his task is sorrowful; even at night, his
mind does not rest. This too is
futile.
I applied mine heart to know, and to search, and to seek out wisdom, and the reason of things, and to know the wickedness of folly, even of
foolishness and madness:
I directed my
mind to understand, to
explore, to search out wisdom and explanations, and to understand the
stupidity of wickedness and the folly of madness.
All this have I seen, and applied my heart unto every work that is done under the sun: there is a time wherein one man ruleth over another to his own
hurt.
All this I have seen, applying my
mind to every deed that is done under the sun; there is a time when one man lords it over another to his own
detriment.
When I applied mine heart to know wisdom, and to see the business that is done upon the earth: (for also there is that neither day nor night
seeth sleep with his eyes:)
When I applied my mind to know wisdom and to observe the task that one performs on the earth—though his eyes do not see sleep in the day or even in the night—
Because thou hast forgotten the God of thy salvation, and hast not been mindful of the rock of thy strength, therefore shalt thou plant pleasant plants, and shalt set it with strange slips:
For you have forgotten the God of your salvation and failed to remember the Rock of your refuge. Therefore, though you
cultivate delightful plots and set out cuttings from
exotic vines—
Thou
wilt keep him in perfect peace, whose
mind is stayed on thee: because he trusteth in thee.
You will keep in perfect peace the
steadfast of
mind, because he trusts in You.
The heart also of the
rash shall understand knowledge, and the tongue of the stammerers shall be ready to speak plainly.
For the
vile person will speak
villany, and his heart will work iniquity, to
practise hypocrisy, and to utter error against the LORD, to make empty the soul of the
hungry, and he will cause the drink of the
thirsty to fail.
Thine heart shall
meditate terror. Where is the
scribe? where is the receiver? where is he that counted the towers?
Your
mind will
ponder the former terror: “Where is he who
tallies? Where is he who weighs? Where is he who counts the towers?”
Remember ye not the former things, neither consider the things of old.
“Do not call to mind the former things; pay no attention to the things of old.
They have not known nor understood: for he hath shut their eyes, that they cannot see; and their hearts, that they cannot understand.
They do not
comprehend or
discern, for He has shut their eyes so they cannot see and closed their
minds so they cannot understand.
Remember this, and
shew yourselves men: bring it again to
mind, O ye transgressors.
Remember this and be
brave; take it to heart, you transgressors!
For, behold, I
create new heavens and a new earth: and the former shall not be remembered, nor come into
mind.
For behold, I will
create new heavens and a new earth. The former things will not be remembered, nor will they come to
mind.
And it shall come to pass, when ye be multiplied and increased in the land, in those days, saith the LORD, they shall say no more, The ark of the covenant of the LORD: neither shall it come to mind: neither shall they remember it; neither shall they visit it; neither shall that be done any more.
“In those days, when you multiply and increase in the land,” declares the LORD, “they will no longer
discuss the ark of the covenant of the LORD. It will never come to
mind, and no one will remember it or miss it, nor will another one be made.
And they have built the high places of
Tophet, which is in the valley of the son of
Hinnom, to burn their sons and their daughters in the fire; which I commanded them not, neither came it into my heart.
They have built the high places of Topheth in the Valley of
Hinnom so they could burn their sons and daughters in the fire—something I never commanded, nor did it even enter My
mind.
But, O LORD of hosts, that judgest righteously, that triest the
reins and the heart, let me see thy
vengeance on them: for unto thee have I revealed my cause.
O LORD of Hosts, who judges righteously, who examines the heart and
mind, let me see Your
vengeance upon them, for to You I have committed my cause.
Then the LORD said unto me, The prophets
prophesy lies in my name: I sent them not, neither have I commanded them, neither spake unto them: they
prophesy unto you a false vision and
divination, and a thing of
nought, and the
deceit of their heart.
Then said the LORD unto me, Though Moses and Samuel stood before me, yet my mind could not be toward this people: cast them out of my sight, and let them go forth.
Then the LORD said to me: “Even if Moses and Samuel should stand before Me, My heart would not go out to this people. Send them from My presence, and let them go.
I the LORD search the heart, I try the
reins, even to give every man according to his ways, and according to the fruit of his doings.
I, the LORD, search the heart; I examine the mind to reward a man according to his way, by what his deeds deserve.
They have built also the high places of
Baal, to burn their sons with fire for burnt offerings unto
Baal, which I commanded not, nor spake it, neither came it into my
mind:
They have built high places to
Baal on which to burn their children in the fire as offerings to
Baal—something I never commanded or mentioned, nor did it even enter My
mind.
But, O LORD of hosts, that triest the righteous, and seest the
reins and the heart, let me see thy
vengeance on them: for unto thee have I opened my cause.
O LORD of Hosts, who examines the righteous, who sees the heart and
mind, let me see Your
vengeance upon them, for to You I have committed my cause.
Thus saith the LORD of hosts,
Hearken not unto the words of the prophets that
prophesy unto you: they make you vain: they speak a vision of their own heart, and not out of the mouth of the LORD.
This is what the LORD of Hosts says: “Do not
listen to the words of the prophets who
prophesy to you. They are filling you with false hopes. They speak visions from their own
minds, not from the mouth of the LORD.
How long shall this be in the heart of the prophets that
prophesy lies?
yea, they are prophets of the
deceit of their own heart;
How long will this continue in the hearts of these prophets who
prophesy falsehood, these prophets of the
delusion of their own
minds?
And they shall drink, and be moved, and be
mad, because of the sword that I will send among them.
And they will drink and
stagger and go out of their
minds, because of the sword that I will send among them.”
Set thee up waymarks, make thee high heaps: set thine heart toward the
highway, even the way which thou wentest: turn again, O virgin of Israel, turn again to these thy cities.
“Set up the roadmarks, establish the signposts. Keep the
highway in
mind, the road you have traveled. Return, O Virgin Israel, return to these cities of yours.
But this shall be the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel; After those days, saith the LORD, I will put my law in their inward parts, and write it in their hearts; and will be their God, and they shall be my people.
“But this is the covenant I will make with the house of Israel after those days, declares the LORD. I will put My law in their
minds and
inscribe it on their hearts. And I will be their God, and they will be My people.
And they built the high places of
Baal, which are in the valley of the son of
Hinnom, to cause their sons and their daughters to pass through the fire unto
Molech; which I commanded them not, neither came it into my
mind, that they should do this
abomination, to cause Judah to sin.
They have built the high places of
Baal in the Valley of
Hinnom to make their sons and daughters pass through the fire to
Molech—something I never commanded them, nor had it ever entered My
mind, that they should commit such an
abomination and cause Judah to sin.
But afterward they turned, and caused the servants and the handmaids, whom they had let go free, to return, and brought them into subjection for servants and for handmaids.
but later they changed their minds and took back the menservants and maidservants they had freed, and they forced them to become slaves again.
But ye turned and
polluted my name, and caused every man his servant, and every man his
handmaid, whom ye had set at liberty at their pleasure, to return, and brought them into subjection, to be unto you for servants and for handmaids.
But now you have changed your
minds and
profaned My name. Each of you has taken back the menservants and maidservants whom you had set at liberty to go wherever they wanted, and you have again forced them to be your slaves.
The incense that ye burned in the cities of Judah, and in the streets of Jerusalem, ye, and your fathers, your kings, and your princes, and the people of the land, did not the LORD remember them, and came it not into his mind?
“As for the incense you burned in the cities of Judah and in the streets of Jerusalem—you, your fathers, your kings, your officials, and the people of the land—did the LORD not remember and bring this to mind?
Ye that have escaped the sword, go away, stand not still: remember the LORD
afar off, and let Jerusalem come into your
mind.
You who have escaped the sword, depart and do not
linger! Remember the LORD from far away, and let Jerusalem come to
mind.”
This I recall to my mind, therefore have I hope.
Yet I call this to mind, and therefore I have hope:
And the Spirit of the LORD fell upon me, and said unto me, Speak; Thus saith the LORD; Thus have ye said, O house of Israel: for I know the things that come into your mind, every one of them.
And the Spirit of the LORD fell upon me and told me to declare that this is what the LORD says: “That is what you are thinking, O house of Israel; and I know the thoughts that arise in your minds.
And that which cometh into your mind shall not be at all, that ye say, We will be as the heathen, as the families of the countries, to serve wood and stone.
When you say, ‘Let us be like the nations, like the peoples of the lands, serving wood and stone,’ what you have in mind will never come to pass.
And the Babylonians came to her into the bed of love, and they
defiled her with their
whoredom, and she was
polluted with them, and her
mind was
alienated from them.
Then the Babylonians came to her, to the bed of love, and in their
lust they
defiled her. But after she had been
defiled by them, she turned away in
disgust.
So she discovered her whoredoms, and discovered her nakedness: then my
mind was
alienated from her, like as my
mind was
alienated from her sister.
When Oholibah openly
prostituted herself and exposed her nakedness, I turned away from her in
disgust, just as I had turned away from her sister.
Therefore, O
Aholibah, thus saith the Lord GOD; Behold, I will raise up thy lovers against thee, from whom thy
mind is
alienated, and I will bring them against thee on every side;
Therefore, Oholibah, this is what the Lord GOD says: ‘I will
incite your lovers against you, those from whom you turned away in
disgust. And I will bring them against you from every side—
For thus saith the Lord GOD; Behold, I will deliver thee into the hand of them whom thou hatest, into the hand of them from whom thy
mind is
alienated:
For this is what the Lord GOD says: ‘Surely I will deliver you into the hands of those you
hate, from whom you turned away in
disgust.
Also, thou son of man, shall it not be in the day when I take from them their strength, the joy of their glory, the desire of their eyes, and that
whereupon they set their
minds, their sons and their daughters,
And you, son of man, know that on the day I take away their
stronghold, their pride and joy—the desire of their eyes which
uplifted their souls—and their sons and daughters as well,
Therefore thus saith the Lord GOD; Surely in the fire of my jealousy have I spoken against the residue of the heathen, and against all
Idumea, which have appointed my land into their possession with the joy of all their heart, with
despiteful minds, to cast it out for a prey.
Therefore this is what the Lord GOD says: Surely in My burning zeal I have spoken against the rest of the nations, and against all
Edom, who took My land as their own possession with wholehearted joy and utter contempt, so that its pastureland became
plunder.
