Listen, O isles, unto me; and
hearken, ye people, from far; The LORD hath called me from the
womb; from the
bowels of my
mother hath he made mention of my name.
Listen to Me, O islands; pay attention, O distant peoples: The LORD called Me from the
womb; from the body of My
mother He named Me.
And kings shall be thy
nursing fathers, and their queens thy
nursing mothers: they shall bow down to thee with their face toward the earth, and
lick up the dust of thy feet; and thou shalt know that I am the LORD: for they shall not be
ashamed that wait for me.
Kings will be your
foster fathers, and their queens your
nursing mothers. They will bow to you facedown and
lick the dust at your feet. Then you will know that I am the LORD; those who hope in Me will never be put to shame.”
Thus saith the LORD, Where is the bill of your
mother’s
divorcement, whom I have put away? or which of my creditors is it to whom I have sold you? Behold, for your
iniquities have ye sold
yourselves, and for your transgressions is your
mother put away.
This is what the LORD says: “Where is your
mother’s
certificate of
divorce with which I sent her away? Or to which of My creditors did I sell you? Look, you were sold for your
iniquities, and for your transgressions your
mother was sent away.
Behold, the Lord GOD will help me; who is he that shall
condemn me? lo, they all shall wax old as a garment; the
moth shall eat them up.
Surely the Lord GOD helps Me. Who is there to
condemn Me? See, they will all wear out like a garment; the
moths will
devour them.
For the moth shall eat them up like a garment, and the worm shall eat them like wool: but my righteousness shall be for ever, and my salvation from generation to generation.
For the
moth will
devour them like a garment, and the worm will eat them like wool. But My righteousness will last
forever, My salvation through all generations.”
As one whom his mother comforteth, so will I comfort you; and ye shall be comforted in Jerusalem.
As a
mother comforts her son, so will I comfort you, and you will be
consoled over Jerusalem.”
Say unto the king and to the queen, Humble
yourselves, sit down: for your
principalities shall come down, even the crown of your glory.
Say to the king and to the queen mother: “Take a lowly seat, for your glorious crowns have fallen from your heads.”
Their widows are increased to me above the sand of the seas: I have brought upon them against the
mother of the young men a
spoiler at
noonday: I have caused him to fall upon it suddenly, and terrors upon the city.
I will make their widows more numerous than the sand of the sea. I will bring a destroyer at
noon against the
mothers of young men. I will suddenly bring upon them
anguish and dismay.
She that hath borne seven languisheth: she hath given up the ghost; her sun is gone down while it was yet day: she hath been
ashamed and confounded: and the residue of them will I deliver to the sword before their enemies, saith the LORD.
The
mother of seven will grow
faint; she will
breathe her last breath. Her sun will set while it is still day; she will be disgraced and
humiliated. And the rest I will put to the sword in the presence of their enemies,” declares the LORD.
Woe is me, my
mother, that thou hast borne me a man of
strife and a man of
contention to the whole earth! I have neither lent on
usury, nor men have lent to me on
usury; yet every one of them
doth curse me.
Woe to me, my
mother, that you have borne me, a man of
strife and conflict in all the land. I have neither lent nor borrowed, yet
everyone curses me.
For thus saith the LORD concerning the sons and concerning the daughters that are born in this place, and concerning their
mothers that bare them, and concerning their fathers that
begat them in this land;
For this is what the LORD says concerning the sons and daughters born in this place, and the mothers who bore them, and the fathers who fathered them in this land:
Neither shall men
tear themselves for them in
mourning, to comfort them for the dead; neither shall men give them the cup of
consolation to drink for their father or for their
mother.
No food will be offered to comfort those who
mourn the dead; not even a cup of
consolation will be given for the loss of a father or
mother.
Cursed be the day wherein I was born: let not the day wherein my
mother bare me be blessed.
Cursed be the day I was born! May the day my
mother bore me never be blessed.
Because he
slew me not from the
womb; or that my
mother might have been my grave, and her
womb to be always great with me.
because he did not kill me in the
womb so that my
mother might have been my grave, and her
womb forever enlarged.
And I will cast thee out, and thy mother that bare thee, into another country, where ye were not born; and there shall ye die.
I will
hurl you and the
mother who gave you birth into another land, where neither of you were born—and there you both will die.
(After that Jeconiah the king, and the queen, and the eunuchs, the princes of Judah and Jerusalem, and the carpenters, and the smiths, were departed from Jerusalem;)
(This was after King Jeconiah, the queen
mother, the court officials, the officials of Judah and Jerusalem, the
craftsmen, and the metalsmiths had been exiled from Jerusalem.)
Behold, I will bring them from the north country, and gather them from the coasts of the earth, and with them the blind and the
lame, the woman with child and her that travaileth with child together: a great company shall return thither.
Behold, I will bring them from the land of the north and gather them from the
farthest parts of the earth, including the blind and the
lame,
expectant mothers and women in labor. They will return as a great assembly!
Your
mother shall be
sore confounded; she that bare you shall be
ashamed: behold, the
hindermost of the nations shall be a wilderness, a dry land, and a desert.
your
mother will be greatly
ashamed; she who bore you will be disgraced. Behold, she will be the least of the nations, a wilderness, a dry land, and a desert.
Zedekiah was one and twenty years old when he began to reign, and he reigned eleven years in Jerusalem. And his
mother’s name was Hamutal the daughter of Jeremiah of
Libnah.
Zedekiah was twenty-one years old when he became king, and he reigned in Jerusalem eleven years. His
mother’s name was Hamutal daughter of Jeremiah; she was from
Libnah.
They say to their
mothers, Where is corn and wine? when they
swooned as the wounded in the streets of the city, when their soul was poured out into their
mothers’
bosom.
They cry out to their
mothers: “Where is the grain and wine?” as they
faint like the wounded in the streets of the city, as their lives
fade away in the arms of their
mothers.
We are orphans and fatherless, our mothers are as widows.
We have become fatherless orphans; our mothers are widows.
And say, Thus saith the Lord GOD unto Jerusalem; Thy birth and thy
nativity is of the land of
Canaan; thy father was an Amorite, and thy
mother an Hittite.
and tell her that this is what the Lord GOD says to Jerusalem: Your origin and your birth were in the land of the
Canaanites. Your father was an Amorite and your
mother a Hittite.
Behold, every one that useth
proverbs shall use this
proverb against thee, saying, As is the
mother, so is her daughter.
Thou art thy
mother’s daughter, that lotheth her husband and her children; and thou art the sister of thy sisters, which
lothed their husbands and their children: your
mother was an Hittite, and your father an Amorite.
You are the daughter of your
mother, who
despised her husband and children. You are the sister of your sisters, who
despised their husbands and children. Your
mother was a Hittite and your father an Amorite.
And say, What is thy
mother? A
lioness: she lay down among lions, she
nourished her whelps among young lions.
and say: ‘What was your
mother? A
lioness among the lions! She lay down among the young lions; she reared her cubs.
Thy mother is like a vine in thy blood, planted by the waters: she was fruitful and full of branches by reason of many waters.
Your
mother was like a vine in your
vineyard, planted by the water; it was fruitful and full of branches because of the abundant waters.
In thee have they set light by father and
mother: in the midst of thee have they dealt by oppression with the stranger: in thee have they
vexed the fatherless and the widow.
Father and
mother are treated with contempt. Within your walls the foreign resident is exploited, the fatherless and the widow are
oppressed.
Son of man, there were two women, the daughters of one mother:
“Son of man, there were two women, daughters of the same mother,
And they shall come at no dead person to
defile themselves: but for father, or for
mother, or for son, or for daughter, for brother, or for sister that hath had no husband, they may
defile themselves.
A priest must not
defile himself by going near a dead person. However, for a father, a
mother, a son, a daughter, a brother, or an unmarried sister, he may do so,
Plead with your
mother,
plead: for she is not my wife, neither am I her husband: let her therefore put away her whoredoms out of her sight, and her
adulteries from between her breasts;
Rebuke your
mother,
rebuke her, for she is not My wife, and I am not her husband. Let her remove the
adultery from her face and the unfaithfulness from between her breasts.
For their
mother hath played the
harlot: she that conceived them hath done
shamefully: for she said, I will go after my lovers, that give me my bread and my water, my wool and my flax, mine oil and my drink.
For their
mother has played the
harlot and has conceived them in disgrace. For she thought, ‘I will go after my lovers, who give me bread and water, wool and linen, oil and drink.’
Therefore shalt thou fall in the day, and the prophet also shall fall with thee in the night, and I will destroy thy mother.
You will
stumble by day, and the prophet will
stumble with you by night; so I will destroy your
mother—
Therefore will I be unto Ephraim as a
moth, and to the house of Judah as
rottenness.
So I am like a moth to Ephraim, and like decay to the house of Judah.
Therefore shall a
tumult arise among thy people, and all thy fortresses shall be
spoiled, as Shalman
spoiled Beth-arbel in the day of battle: the
mother was
dashed in pieces upon her children.
the
roar of battle will rise against your people, so that all your fortresses will be
demolished as Shalman
devastated Beth-arbel in the day of battle, when
mothers were
dashed to pieces along with their children.
For the son dishonoureth the father, the daughter riseth up against her mother, the daughter in law against her mother in law; a man’s enemies are the men of his own house.
For a son dishonors his father, a daughter rises against her mother, and a daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law. A man’s enemies are the members of his own household.
And it shall come to pass, that when any shall yet
prophesy, then his father and his
mother that
begat him shall say unto him, Thou shalt not live; for thou speakest lies in the name of the LORD: and his father and his
mother that
begat him shall thrust him through when he prophesieth.
And if
anyone still prophesies, his father and
mother who bore him will say to him, ‘You shall not remain alive, because you have spoken falsely in the name of the LORD.’ When he prophesies, his father and
mother who bore him will
pierce him through.
Now the birth of Jesus Christ was on this wise: When as his
mother Mary was
espoused to Joseph, before they came together, she was found with child of the Holy Ghost.
This is how the birth of Jesus Christ came about: His
mother Mary was
pledged in marriage to Joseph, but before they came together, she was found to be with child through the Holy Spirit.
And when they were come into the house, they saw the young child with Mary his
mother, and fell down, and worshipped him: and when they had opened their treasures, they presented unto him gifts; gold, and
frankincense, and
myrrh.
On coming to the house, they saw the Child with His
mother Mary, and they fell down and worshiped Him. Then they opened their treasures and presented Him with gifts of gold and
frankincense and
myrrh.
And when they were departed, behold, the angel of the Lord appeareth to Joseph in a dream, saying, Arise, and take the young child and his
mother, and
flee into Egypt, and be thou there until I bring thee word: for Herod will seek the young child to destroy him.
When the
Magi had gone, an angel of the Lord appeared to Joseph in a dream. “Get up!” he said. “Take the Child and His
mother and
flee to Egypt. Stay there until I tell you, for Herod is going to search for the Child to kill Him.”
When he arose, he took the young child and his mother by night, and departed into Egypt:
So he got up, took the Child and His mother by night, and withdrew to Egypt,
Saying, Arise, and take the young child and his mother, and go into the land of Israel: for they are dead which sought the young child’s life.
“Get up!” he said. “Take the Child and His mother and go to the land of Israel, for those seeking the Child’s life are now dead.”
And he arose, and took the young child and his mother, and came into the land of Israel.
So Joseph got up, took the Child and His mother, and went to the land of Israel.
And when Jesus was come into Peter’s house, he saw his wife’s mother laid, and sick of a fever.
When Jesus arrived at Peter’s house, He saw Peter’s mother-in-law sick in bed with a fever.
For I am come to set a man at
variance against his father, and the daughter against her
mother, and the daughter in law against her
mother in law.
For I have come to turn ‘a man against his father, a daughter against her mother, a daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law.
He that loveth father or mother more than me is not worthy of me: and he that loveth son or daughter more than me is not worthy of me.
Anyone who loves his father or
mother more than Me is not worthy of Me;
anyone who loves his son or daughter more than Me is not worthy of Me;
While he yet talked to the people, behold, his mother and his brethren stood without, desiring to speak with him.
While Jesus was still speaking to the crowds, His mother and brothers stood outside, wanting to speak to Him.
Then one said unto him, Behold, thy mother and thy brethren stand without, desiring to speak with thee.
Someone told Him, “Look, Your mother and brothers are standing outside, wanting to speak to You.”
But he answered and said unto him that told him, Who is my mother? and who are my brethren?
But Jesus replied, “Who is My mother, and who are My brothers?”
And he stretched forth his hand toward his disciples, and said, Behold my mother and my brethren!
Pointing to His disciples, He said, “Here are My mother and My brothers.
For
whosoever shall do the will of my Father which is in heaven, the same is my brother, and sister, and
mother.
For
whoever does the will of My Father in heaven is My brother and sister and
mother.”
Is not this the
carpenter’s son? is not his
mother called Mary? and his brethren, James, and Joses, and Simon, and
Judas?
“Isn’t this the
carpenter’s son? Isn’t His
mother’s name Mary, and aren’t His brothers James, Joseph, Simon, and
Judas?
And she, being before
instructed of her
mother, said, Give me here John Baptist’s head in a charger.
Prompted by her
mother, she said, “Give me here on a
platter the head of John the Baptist.”
And his head was brought in a charger, and given to the
damsel: and she brought it to her
mother.
John’s head was brought in on a
platter and presented to the
girl, who carried it to her
mother.
For God commanded, saying, Honour thy father and mother: and, He that curseth father or mother, let him die the death.
For God said, ‘Honor your father and
mother’ and ‘
Anyone who curses his father or
mother must be put to death.’
But ye say,
Whosoever shall say to his father or his
mother, It is a gift, by
whatsoever thou mightest be profited by me;
But you say that if
anyone says to his father or
mother, ‘Whatever you would have received from me is a gift devoted to God,’
And honour not his father or his mother, he shall be free. Thus have ye made the commandment of God of none effect by your tradition.
he need not honor his father or
mother with it. Thus you
nullify the word of God for the sake of your tradition.
And said, For this cause shall a man leave father and
mother, and shall
cleave to his wife: and they
twain shall be one flesh?
and said, ‘For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, and the two will become one flesh’?
For there are some eunuchs, which were so born from their
mother’s
womb: and there are some eunuchs, which were made eunuchs of men: and there be eunuchs, which have made themselves eunuchs for the kingdom of heaven’s sake. He that is able to receive it, let him receive it.
For there are eunuchs who were born that way; others were made that way by men; and still others live like eunuchs for the sake of the kingdom of heaven. The one who can accept this should accept it.”
Honour thy father and thy
mother: and, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as
thyself.
And every one that hath
forsaken houses, or brethren, or sisters, or father, or
mother, or wife, or children, or lands, for my name’s sake, shall receive an
hundredfold, and shall
inherit everlasting life.
And
everyone who has left houses or brothers or sisters or father or
mother or wife or children or fields for the sake of My name will receive a
hundredfold and will
inherit eternal life.
Then came to him the
mother of Zebedee’s children with her sons,
worshipping him, and desiring a certain thing of him.
Then the
mother of Zebedee’s sons came to Jesus with her sons and
knelt down to make a request of Him.
And
woe unto them that are with child, and to them that give
suck in those days!
Among which was Mary Magdalene, and Mary the mother of James and Joses, and the mother of Zebedee’s children.
Among them were Mary Magdalene, Mary the mother of James and Joseph, and the mother of Zebedee’s sons.
But Simon’s wife’s
mother lay sick of a fever, and
anon they tell him of her.
Simon’s
mother-in-law was sick in bed with a fever, and they
promptly told Jesus about her.
There came then his brethren and his mother, and, standing without, sent unto him, calling him.
Then Jesus’
mother and brothers came and stood outside. They sent someone in to
summon Him,
And the multitude sat about him, and they said unto him, Behold, thy mother and thy brethren without seek for thee.
and a crowd was sitting around Him. “Look,” He was told, “Your mother and brothers are outside, asking for You.”
And he answered them, saying, Who is my mother, or my brethren?
But Jesus replied, “Who are My mother and My brothers?”
And he looked round about on them which sat about him, and said, Behold my mother and my brethren!
Looking at those seated in a circle around Him, He said, “Here are My mother and My brothers!
For
whosoever shall do the will of God, the same is my brother, and my sister, and
mother.
For
whoever does the will of God is My brother and sister and
mother.”
And they
laughed him to
scorn. But when he had put them all out, he taketh the father and the
mother of the
damsel, and them that were with him, and entereth in where the
damsel was lying.
And they
laughed at Him. After He had put them all outside, He took the child’s father and
mother and His own companions, and went in to see the child.
And she went forth, and said unto her mother, What shall I ask? And she said, The head of John the Baptist.
Then she went out and asked her mother, “What should I request?” And her mother answered, “The head of John the Baptist.”
And brought his head in a charger, and gave it to the
damsel: and the
damsel gave it to her
mother.
The man brought John’s head on a
platter and presented it to the
girl, who gave it to her
mother.
For Moses said, Honour thy father and thy
mother; and,
Whoso curseth father or
mother, let him die the death:
For Moses said, ‘Honor your father and your
mother’ and ‘
Anyone who curses his father or
mother must be put to death.’
But ye say, If a man shall say to his father or
mother, It is
Corban, that is to say, a gift, by
whatsoever thou mightest be profited by me; he shall be free.
But you say that if a man says to his father or
mother, ‘Whatever you would have received from me is
Corban’ (that is, a gift devoted to God),
And ye suffer him no more to do ought for his father or his mother;
he is no longer permitted to do anything for his father or mother.
For this cause shall a man leave his father and
mother, and
cleave to his wife;
‘For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife,
Thou knowest the commandments, Do not commit
adultery, Do not kill, Do not
steal, Do not bear false witness,
Defraud not, Honour thy father and
mother.
You know the commandments: ‘Do not murder, do not commit
adultery, do not
steal, do not bear false witness, do not
cheat others, honor your father and
mother.’”
And Jesus answered and said,
Verily I say unto you, There is no man that hath left house, or brethren, or sisters, or father, or
mother, or wife, or children, or lands, for my sake, and the gospel’s,
“Truly I tell you,” Jesus replied, “no one who has left home or brothers or sisters or mother or father or children or fields for My sake and for the gospel
But he shall receive an
hundredfold now in this time, houses, and brethren, and sisters, and
mothers, and children, and lands, with persecutions; and in the world to come eternal life.
will fail to receive a
hundredfold in the present age—houses and brothers and sisters and
mothers and children and fields, along with persecutions—and in the age to come, eternal life.
But
woe to them that are with child, and to them that give
suck in those days!
There were also women looking on
afar off: among whom was Mary Magdalene, and Mary the
mother of James the less and of Joses, and
Salome;
And there were also women watching from a distance. Among them were Mary Magdalene, Mary the
mother of James the younger and of Joses, and
Salome.
And Mary Magdalene and Mary the
mother of Joses
beheld where he was laid.
Mary Magdalene and Mary the mother of Joseph saw where His body was placed.
And when the sabbath was past, Mary Magdalene, and Mary the
mother of James, and
Salome, had bought sweet spices, that they might come and
anoint him.
When the Sabbath was over, Mary Magdalene, Mary the
mother of James, and
Salome bought spices so they could go and
anoint the body of Jesus.
For he shall be great in the sight of the Lord, and shall drink neither wine nor strong drink; and he shall be filled with the Holy Ghost, even from his
mother’s
womb.
for he will be great in the sight of the Lord. He shall never take wine or strong drink, and he will be filled with the Holy Spirit even from his
mother’s
womb.
And whence is this to me, that the mother of my Lord should come to me?
And why am I so honored, that the mother of my Lord should come to me?
And his mother answered and said, Not so; but he shall be called John.
But his mother replied, “No! He shall be called John.”
And Joseph and his
mother marvelled at those things which were spoken of him.
The Child’s father and
mother were
amazed at what was spoken about Him.
And
Simeon blessed them, and said unto Mary his
mother, Behold, this child is set for the fall and rising again of many in Israel; and for a sign which shall be spoken against;
Then
Simeon blessed them and said to His
mother Mary: “Behold, this Child is appointed to cause the rise and fall of many in Israel, and to be a sign that will be spoken against,
And when they had fulfilled the days, as they returned, the child Jesus
tarried behind in Jerusalem; and Joseph and his
mother knew not of it.
When those days were over and they were returning home, the boy Jesus remained behind in Jerusalem, but His parents were unaware He had stayed.
And when they saw him, they were
amazed: and his
mother said unto him, Son, why hast thou thus dealt with us? behold, thy father and I have sought thee sorrowing.
When His parents saw Him, they were
astonished. “Child, why have You done this to us?” His
mother asked. “Your father and I have been anxiously searching for You.”
And he went down with them, and came to
Nazareth, and was subject unto them: but his
mother kept all these sayings in her heart.
And he arose out of the
synagogue, and entered into Simon’s house. And Simon’s wife’s
mother was taken with a great fever; and they
besought him for her.
After Jesus had left the
synagogue, He went to the home of Simon, whose
mother-in-law was suffering from a high fever. So they appealed to Jesus on her behalf,
Now when he came
nigh to the gate of the city, behold, there was a dead man carried out, the only son of his
mother, and she was a widow: and much people of the city was with her.
As He approached the town gate, He saw a dead man being carried out, the only son of his mother, and she was a widow. And a large crowd from the town was with her.
And he that was dead sat up, and began to speak. And he delivered him to his mother.
And the dead man sat up and began to speak! Then Jesus gave him back to his mother.
Then came to him his mother and his brethren, and could not come at him for the press.
Then Jesus’ mother and brothers came to see Him, but they were unable to reach Him because of the crowd.
And it was told him by certain which said, Thy mother and thy brethren stand without, desiring to see thee.
He was told, “Your mother and brothers are standing outside, wanting to see You.”
And he answered and said unto them, My mother and my brethren are these which hear the word of God, and do it.
But He replied, “My mother and brothers are those who hear the word of God and carry it out.”
And when he came into the house, he suffered no man to go in, save Peter, and James, and John, and the father and the
mother of the
maiden.
When He entered the house, He did not allow
anyone to go in with Him except Peter, John, James, and the child’s father and
mother.
