Libnah with her suburbs, and Jattir, and Eshtemoa, with their suburbs,

Libnah, Jattir, Eshtemoa,
And unto the sons of

names.
They assigned by lot the cities
named above from the tribes of Judah,
Simeon, and Benjamin.

And Maachah the wife of Machir bare a son, and she called his name Peresh; and the name of his brother was Sheresh; and his sons were Ulam and Rakem.
Machir’s wife

named him Peresh. His brother was
named Sheresh, and his sons were Ulam and Rekem.
And when he went in to his wife, she conceived, and bare a son, and he called his name Beriah, because it went evil with his house.
And again he
slept with his wife, and she conceived and gave birth to a son. So he
named him Beriah, because tragedy had come upon his house.

slew them, and had a
name among the three.

Joab, was chief of the Three, and he lifted his
spear against three hundred men, killed them, and won a
name along with the Three.
These things did Benaiah the son of Jehoiada, and had the
name among the three
mighties.
These were the exploits of Benaiah son of Jehoiada, who won a
name alongside the three mighty men.
And of the half tribe of
Manasseh eighteen thousand, which were expressed by
name, to come and make David king.
From the half-tribe of
Manasseh: 18,000 designated by
name to come and make David king.
And David went up, and all Israel, to Baalah, that is, to Kirjath-jearim, which belonged to Judah, to bring up thence the ark of God the LORD, that dwelleth between the cherubims, whose name is called on it.
David and all Israel went up to Baalah of Judah (that is, Kiriath-jearim) to bring up from there the ark of God the LORD, who is enthroned between the
cherubim—the ark that is called by the
Name.
And David was displeased, because the LORD had made a breach upon Uzza: wherefore that place is called
Perez-uzza to this day.
Then David became
angry because the LORD had
burst forth against Uzzah; so he
named that place
Perez-uzzah, as it is called to this day.
Now these are the
names of his children which he had in Jerusalem; Shammua, and Shobab,
Nathan, and Solomon,
These are the
names of the children born to him in Jerusalem: Shammua, Shobab,

So they came up to
Baal-perazim; and David
smote them there. Then David said, God hath broken in upon mine enemies by mine hand like the breaking forth of waters: therefore they called the
name of that place
Baal-perazim.
So David and his men went up to
Baal-perazim, where he defeated the Philistines and said, “Like a
bursting flood, God has
burst out against my enemies by my hand.” So they called that place
Baal-perazim.
And when David had made an end of offering the burnt offerings and the peace offerings, he blessed the people in the name of the LORD.
When David had finished sacrificing the burnt offerings and peace offerings, he blessed the people in the name of the LORD.
Give
thanks unto the LORD, call upon his
name, make known his deeds among the people.
“Give
thanks to the LORD; call upon His
name; make known His deeds among the nations.
Glory ye in his holy
name: let the heart of them
rejoice that seek the LORD.
Glory in His holy
name; let the hearts of those who seek the LORD
rejoice.
Give unto the LORD the glory due unto his
name: bring an offering, and come before him: worship the LORD in the beauty of
holiness.
Ascribe to the LORD the glory due His
name; bring an offering and come before Him. Worship the LORD in the
splendor of His
holiness;
And say ye, Save us, O God of our salvation, and gather us together, and deliver us from the heathen, that we may give
thanks to thy holy
name, and glory in thy praise.
Then cry out: ‘Save us, O God of our salvation; gather and deliver us from the nations, that we may give
thanks to Your holy
name, that we may glory in Your praise.’
And with them Heman and
Jeduthun, and the rest that were chosen, who were expressed by
name, to give
thanks to the LORD, because his mercy endureth for ever;
With them were Heman,
Jeduthun, and the rest of those chosen and designated by
name to give
thanks to the LORD, for “His loving devotion endures
forever.”
And I have been with thee
whithersoever thou hast walked, and have cut off all thine enemies from before thee, and have made thee a
name like the
name of the great men that are in the earth.
I have been with you wherever you have gone, and I have cut off all your enemies from before you. Now I will make for you a name like the greatest in the land.
And what one nation in the earth is like thy people Israel, whom God went to
redeem to be his own people, to make thee a
name of greatness and terribleness, by driving out nations from before thy people, whom thou hast redeemed out of Egypt?
And who is like Your people Israel—the one nation on earth whom God went out to
redeem as a people for Himself? You made a
name for
Yourself through great and
awesome wonders by driving out nations from before Your people, whom You redeemed from Egypt.
Let it even be established, that thy
name may be
magnified for ever, saying, The LORD of hosts is the God of Israel, even a God to Israel: and let the house of David thy servant be established before thee.
so that Your
name will be established and
magnified forever when it is said, ‘The LORD of Hosts, the God of Israel, is God over Israel.’ And may the house of Your servant David be established before You.
And David went up at the saying of
Gad, which he spake in the
name of the LORD.
So David went up at the word that
Gad had spoken in the
name of the LORD.
And David said to Solomon, My son, as for me, it was in my mind to build an house unto the name of the LORD my God:
“My son,” said David to Solomon, “it was in my heart to build a house for the Name of the LORD my God,
But the word of the LORD came to me, saying, Thou hast shed blood abundantly, and hast made great wars: thou shalt not build an house unto my name, because thou hast shed much blood upon the earth in my sight.
but this word of the LORD came to me: ‘You have shed much blood and
waged great wars. You are not to build a house for My
Name because you have shed so much blood on the ground before Me.
Behold, a son shall be born to thee, who shall be a man of rest; and I will give him rest from all his enemies round about: for his name shall be Solomon, and I will give peace and quietness unto Israel in his days.
But a son will be born to you who will be a man of rest. I will give him rest from all his enemies on every side; for his name will be Solomon, and I will grant to Israel peace and quiet during his reign.
He shall build an house for my name; and he shall be my son, and I will be his father; and I will establish the throne of his kingdom over Israel for ever.
He is the one who will build a house for My
Name. He will be My son, and I will be his Father. And I will establish the throne of his kingdom over Israel
forever.’
Now set your heart and your soul to seek the LORD your God; arise therefore, and build ye the sanctuary of the LORD God, to bring the ark of the covenant of the LORD, and the holy vessels of God, into the house that is to be built to the name of the LORD.
Now set your heart and soul to seek the LORD your God. Get started building the sanctuary of the LORD God, so that you may bring the ark of the covenant of the LORD and the holy articles of God into the temple that will be built for the Name of the LORD.”
And David divided them into courses among the sons of Levi,
namely, Gershon,
Kohath, and Merari.
Then David divided the Levites into divisions according to the sons of Levi: Gershom,
Kohath, and Merari.
The sons of Amram; Aaron and Moses: and Aaron was separated, that he should
sanctify the most holy things, he and his sons for ever, to burn incense before the LORD, to minister unto him, and to
bless in his
name for ever.
The sons of Amram: Aaron and Moses. Aaron and his descendants were set apart
forever to
consecrate the most holy things, to burn incense before the LORD, to minister before Him, and to
pronounce blessings in His
name forever.
Now concerning Moses the man of God, his sons were named of the tribe of Levi.
As for Moses the man of God, his sons were named among the tribe of Levi.
These were the sons of Levi after the house of their fathers; even the chief of the fathers, as they were counted by number of names by their polls, that did the work for the service of the house of the LORD, from the age of twenty years and upward.
These were the descendants of Levi by their families—the heads of families, registered individually by name—those twenty years of age or older who worked in the service of the house of the LORD.
And Shemaiah the son of Nethaneel the
scribe, one of the Levites, wrote them before the king, and the princes, and
Zadok the priest, and
Ahimelech the son of
Abiathar, and before the chief of the fathers of the priests and Levites: one principal household being taken for
Eleazar, and one taken for
Ithamar.
The
scribe, Shemaiah son of Nethanel, a
Levite, recorded their
names in the presence of the king and of the officers:
Zadok the priest,
Ahimelech son of
Abiathar, and the heads of families of the priests and the Levites—one family being taken from
Eleazar, and then one from
Ithamar.
But God said unto me, Thou shalt not build an house for my name, because thou hast been a man of war, and hast shed blood.
but God said to me, ‘You are not to build a house for My
Name, because you are a man of war who has
spilled blood.’
Now therefore, our God, we
thank thee, and praise thy glorious
name.
Now therefore, our God, we give You
thanks, and we praise Your glorious
name.
O LORD our God, all this store that we have prepared to build thee an house for thine holy name cometh of thine hand, and is all thine own.
O LORD our God, from Your hand comes all this abundance that we have provided to build You a house for Your holy Name, and all of it belongs to You.
And Solomon determined to build an house for the name of the LORD, and an house for his kingdom.
Now Solomon purposed to build a house for the Name of the LORD and a royal palace for himself.
Behold, I build an house to the
name of the LORD my God, to
dedicate it to him, and to burn before him sweet incense, and for the continual
shewbread, and for the burnt offerings morning and evening, on the sabbaths, and on the new moons, and on the solemn feasts of the LORD our God. This is an
ordinance for ever to Israel.
Behold, I am about to build a house for the
Name of the LORD my God to
dedicate to Him for burning
fragrant incense before Him, for displaying the
showbread continuously, and for making burnt offerings every morning and evening as well as on the Sabbaths, New Moons, and appointed feasts of the LORD our God. This is ordained for Israel
forever.
And he reared up the pillars before the temple, one on the right hand, and the other on the left; and called the
name of that on the right hand
Jachin, and the
name of that on the left Boaz.
Then he set up the pillars in front of the temple, one on the south and one on the north. The
pillar on the south he
named Jachin, and the
pillar on the north he
named Boaz.
Since the day that I brought forth my people out of the land of Egypt I chose no city among all the tribes of Israel to build an house in, that my name might be there; neither chose I any man to be a ruler over my people Israel:
‘Since the day I brought My people out of the land of Egypt, I have not chosen a city from any tribe of Israel in which to build a house so that My
Name would be there, nor have I chosen
anyone to be ruler over My people Israel.
But I have chosen Jerusalem, that my name might be there; and have chosen David to be over my people Israel.
But now I have chosen Jerusalem for My Name to be there, and I have chosen David to be over My people Israel.’
Now it was in the heart of David my father to build an house for the name of the LORD God of Israel.
Now it was in the heart of my father David to build a house for the Name of the LORD, the God of Israel.
But the LORD said to David my father,
Forasmuch as it was in thine heart to build an house for my
name, thou
didst well in that it was in thine heart:
But the LORD said to my father David, ‘Since it was in your heart to build a house for My Name, you have done well to have this in your heart.
Notwithstanding thou shalt not build the house; but thy son which shall come forth out of thy loins, he shall build the house for my name.
Nevertheless, you are not the one to build it; but your son, your own offspring, will build the house for My Name.’
The LORD therefore hath performed his word that he hath spoken: for I am risen up in the room of David my father, and am set on the throne of Israel, as the LORD promised, and have built the house for the name of the LORD God of Israel.
Now the LORD has fulfilled the word that He spoke. I have succeeded my father David, and I sit on the throne of Israel, as the LORD promised. I have built the house for the Name of the LORD, the God of Israel.
That thine eyes may be open upon this house day and night, upon the place
whereof thou hast said that thou wouldest put thy
name there; to
hearken unto the prayer which thy servant prayeth toward this place.
May Your eyes be open toward this temple day and night, toward the place where You said You would put Your Name, so that You may hear the prayer that Your servant prays toward this place.
And if thy people Israel be put to the worse before the enemy, because they have
sinned against thee; and shall return and
confess thy
name, and pray and make
supplication before thee in this house;
When Your people Israel are defeated before an enemy because they have
sinned against You, and they return to You and
confess Your
name, praying and
pleading before You in this temple,
When the heaven is shut up, and there is no rain, because they have
sinned against thee; yet if they pray toward this place, and
confess thy
name, and turn from their sin, when thou
dost afflict them;
When the
skies are shut and there is no rain because Your people have
sinned against You, and they pray toward this place and
confess Your
name, and they turn from their sins because You have
afflicted them,
Moreover concerning the stranger, which is not of thy people Israel, but is come from a far country for thy great name’s sake, and thy mighty hand, and thy stretched out arm; if they come and pray in this house;
And as for the foreigner who is not of Your people Israel but has come from a distant land because of Your great name and Your mighty hand and outstretched arm—when he comes and prays toward this temple,
Then hear thou from the heavens, even from thy dwelling place, and do according to all that the stranger calleth to thee for; that all people of the earth may know thy
name, and fear thee, as
doth thy people Israel, and may know that this house which I have built is called by thy
name.
then may You hear from heaven, Your dwelling place, and do according to all for which the foreigner calls to You. Then all the peoples of the earth will know Your name and fear You, as do Your people Israel, and they will know that this house I have built is called by Your Name.
If thy people go out to war against their enemies by the way that thou shalt send them, and they pray unto thee toward this city which thou hast chosen, and the house which I have built for thy name;
When Your people go to war against their enemies, wherever You send them, and when they pray to You in the direction of the city You have chosen and the house I have built for Your Name,
If they return to thee with all their heart and with all their soul in the land of their captivity,
whither they have carried them
captives, and pray toward their land, which thou gavest unto their fathers, and toward the city which thou hast chosen, and toward the house which I have built for thy
name:
and when they return to You with all their heart and soul in the land of the enemies who took them
captive, and when they pray in the direction of the land that You gave to their fathers, the city You have chosen, and the house I have built for Your
Name,
If my people, which are called by my
name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will
forgive their sin, and will
heal their land.
and if My people who are called by My
name humble themselves and pray and seek My face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven,
forgive their sin, and
heal their land.
For now have I chosen and
sanctified this house, that my
name may be there for ever: and mine eyes and mine heart shall be there perpetually.
For I have now chosen and consecrated this temple so that My
Name may be there
forever. My eyes and My heart will be there for all time.
Then will I
pluck them up by the roots out of my land which I have given them; and this house, which I have
sanctified for my
name, will I cast out of my sight, and will make it to be a
proverb and a
byword among all nations.
then I will
uproot Israel from the soil I have given them, and I will
banish from My presence this temple I have
sanctified for My
Name. I will make it an object of
scorn and
ridicule among all the peoples.
So king
Rehoboam strengthened himself in Jerusalem, and reigned: for
Rehoboam was one and forty years old when he began to reign, and he reigned seventeen years in Jerusalem, the city which the LORD had chosen out of all the tribes of Israel, to put his
name there. And his mother’s
name was Naamah an Ammonitess.
Thus King
Rehoboam established himself in Jerusalem. He was forty-one years old when he became king, and he reigned seventeen years in Jerusalem, the city the LORD had chosen from all the tribes of Israel in which to put His
Name. His mother’s
name was Naamah the
Ammonite.
He reigned three years in Jerusalem. His mother’s
name also was Michaiah the daughter of Uriel of Gibeah. And there was war between
Abijah and
Jeroboam.

name was Micaiah daughter of Uriel; she was from Gibeah. And there was war between
Abijah and
Jeroboam.
And
Asa cried unto the LORD his God, and said, LORD, it is nothing with thee to help, whether with many, or with them that have no power: help us, O LORD our God; for we rest on thee, and in thy
name we go against this multitude. O LORD, thou art our God; let not man prevail against thee.
Then
Asa cried out to the LORD his God: “O LORD, there is no one besides You to help the powerless against the mighty. Help us, O LORD our God, for we
rely on You, and in Your
name we have come against this multitude. O LORD, You are our God. Do not let a mere
mortal prevail against You.”
And the king said to him, How many times shall I
adjure thee that thou say nothing but the truth to me in the
name of the LORD?
But the king said to him, “How many times must I make you
swear not to tell me anything but the truth in the
name of the LORD?”
And they dwelt therein, and have built thee a sanctuary therein for thy name, saying,
They have lived in the land and have built in it a sanctuary for Your Name, saying,
If, when evil cometh upon us, as the sword, judgment, or
pestilence, or famine, we stand before this house, and in thy presence, (for thy
name is in this house,) and cry unto thee in our
affliction, then thou
wilt hear and help.
‘If
disaster comes upon us—whether sword or judgment, plague or famine—we will stand before this temple and before You, for Your
Name is in this temple. We will cry out to You in our distress, and You will hear us and save us.’
And on the fourth day they assembled themselves in the valley of Berachah; for there they blessed the LORD: therefore the name of the same place was called, The valley of Berachah, unto this day.
On the fourth day they assembled in the Valley of Beracah, where they blessed the LORD. Therefore that place is called the Valley of Beracah to this day.
And
Jehoshaphat reigned over Judah: he was thirty and five years old when he began to reign, and he reigned twenty and five years in Jerusalem. And his mother’s
name was Azubah the daughter of Shilhi.
So
Jehoshaphat reigned over Judah. He was thirty-five years old when he became king, and he reigned in Jerusalem twenty-five years. His mother’s
name was Azubah daughter of Shilhi.
Forty and two years old was
Ahaziah when he began to reign, and he reigned one year in Jerusalem. His mother’s

granddaughter of Omri.

sheba.

name was Jehoaddan of Jerusalem.

name was Jehoaddan; she was from Jerusalem.
Sixteen years old was Uzziah when he began to reign, and he reigned fifty and two years in Jerusalem. His mother’s name also was Jecoliah of Jerusalem.

And the
Ammonites gave gifts to Uzziah: and his
name spread abroad even to the entering in of Egypt; for he strengthened himself exceedingly.
The
Ammonites brought tribute to Uzziah, and his fame spread as far as the border of Egypt, for he had become exceedingly powerful.
And he made in Jerusalem engines, invented by
cunning men, to be on the towers and upon the bulwarks, to shoot arrows and great stones
withal. And his
name spread far abroad; for he was marvellously helped, till he was strong.
And in Jerusalem he made
skillfully designed devices to shoot arrows and
catapult large stones from the towers and corners. So his fame spread far and wide, for he was helped
tremendously so that he became powerful.
Jotham was twenty and five years old when he began to reign, and he reigned sixteen years in Jerusalem. His mother’s
name also was Jerushah, the daughter of
Zadok.

But a prophet of the LORD was there, whose
name was
Oded: and he went out before the host that came to Samaria, and said unto them, Behold, because the LORD God of your fathers was
wroth with Judah, he hath delivered them into your hand, and ye have slain them in a
rage that reacheth up unto heaven.
But a prophet of the LORD
named Oded was there, and he went out to meet the army that returned to Samaria. “Look,” he said to them, “because of His wrath against Judah, the LORD, the God of your fathers, has delivered them into your hand. But you have slaughtered them in a
rage that reaches up to heaven.
And the men which were expressed by
name rose up, and took the
captives, and with the
spoil clothed all that were naked among them, and
arrayed them, and
shod them, and gave them to eat and to drink, and
anointed them, and carried all the feeble of them upon
asses, and brought them to
Jericho, the city of palm trees, to their brethren: then they returned to Samaria.
Then the men who were designated by
name arose, took charge of the
captives, and provided from the
plunder clothing for the naked. They clothed them, gave them
sandals and food and drink,
anointed their wounds, and put all the feeble on
donkeys. So they brought them to
Jericho, the City of Palms, to their brothers. Then they returned to Samaria.
Hezekiah began to reign when he was five and twenty years old, and he reigned nine and twenty years in Jerusalem. And his mother’s
name was
Abijah, the daughter of
Zechariah.
Hezekiah was twenty-five years old when he became king, and he reigned in Jerusalem twenty-nine years. His mother’s
name was
Abijah, the daughter of
Zechariah.
Also of the sons of Aaron the priests, which were in the fields of the suburbs of their cities, in every several city, the men that were expressed by
name, to give portions to all the males among the priests, and to all that were reckoned by
genealogies among the Levites.
As for the priests, the descendants of Aaron, who lived on the farmlands around each of their cities or in any other city, men were designated by
name to distribute a portion to every male among the priests and to every
Levite listed by the
genealogies.
Also he built altars in the house of the LORD,
whereof the LORD had said, In Jerusalem shall my
name be for ever.
Manasseh also built altars in the house of the LORD, of which the LORD had said, “My
Name will remain in Jerusalem
forever.”
And he set a carved image, the
idol which he had made, in the house of God, of which God had said to David and to Solomon his son, In this house, and in Jerusalem, which I have chosen before all the tribes of Israel, will I put my
name for ever:
Manasseh even took the carved image he had made and set it up in the house of God, of which God had said to David and his son Solomon, “In this temple and in Jerusalem, which I have chosen out of all the tribes of Israel, I will establish My
Name forever.
Now the rest of the acts of
Manasseh, and his prayer unto his God, and the words of the seers that spake to him in the
name of the LORD God of Israel, behold, they are written in the book of the kings of Israel.
As for the rest of the acts of
Manasseh, along with his prayer to his God and the words of the seers who spoke to him in the
name of the LORD, the God of Israel, they are indeed written in the Chronicles of the Kings of Israel.
And the king of Egypt made Eliakim his brother king over Judah and Jerusalem, and turned his
name to
Jehoiakim. And
Necho took
Jehoahaz his brother, and carried him to Egypt.
Then Neco king of Egypt made Eliakim brother of
Jehoahaz king over Judah and Jerusalem, and he changed Eliakim’s
name to
