sore ran in the night, and ceased
not: my soul refused to be comforted.

not grow
weary; my soul refused to be comforted.

We will
not hide them from their children,
shewing to the generation to come the praises of the LORD, and his strength, and his wonderful works that he hath done.
We will not hide them from their children, but will declare to the next generation the praises of the LORD and His might, and the wonders He has performed.

not forget the works of God, but keep his commandments:

not forgetting His works, but keeping His commandments.
And might
not be as their fathers, a
stubborn and
rebellious generation; a generation that set
not their heart
aright, and whose spirit was
not stedfast with God.

rebellious generation, whose heart was
not loyal, whose spirit was
not faithful to God.

They were
not estranged from their
lust. But while their meat was yet in their mouths,
Yet before they had filled their desire, with the food still in their mouths,
For all this they
sinned still, and believed
not for his
wondrous works.
In spite of all this, they kept on
sinning;
despite His wonderful works, they did
not believe.
For their heart was
not right with him, neither were they
stedfast in his covenant.
Their hearts were
disloyal to Him, and they were unfaithful to His covenant.
But he, being full of
compassion,
forgave their iniquity, and destroyed them
not:
yea, many a time turned he his anger away, and did
not stir up all his wrath.
And yet He was
compassionate; He
forgave their iniquity and did
not destroy them. He often restrained His anger and did
not unleash His full wrath.
For he remembered that they were but flesh; a wind that passeth away, and cometh not again.

breeze that does
not return.

spared not their soul from death, but gave their life over to the
pestilence;

not: but the sea

Pour out thy wrath upon the heathen that have not known thee, and upon the kingdoms that have not called upon thy name.
Pour out Your wrath on the nations that do not acknowledge You, on the kingdoms that refuse to call on Your name,
O remember
not against us former
iniquities: let thy tender
mercies speedily prevent us: for we are brought very low.
Do
not hold past sins against us; let Your
compassion come quickly, for we are brought low.
So will
not we go back from thee:
quicken us, and we will call upon thy name.
Then we will not turn away from You; revive us, and we will call on Your name.
This he ordained in Joseph for a testimony, when he went out through the land of Egypt: where I heard a language that I understood not.
He ordained it as a testimony for Joseph when he went out over the land of Egypt, where I heard an unfamiliar language:
But my people would
not hearken to my voice; and Israel would none of me.
But My people would
not listen to Me, and Israel would
not obey Me.
They know not, neither will they understand; they walk on in darkness: all the foundations of the earth are out of course.
They do
not know or understand; they
wander in the darkness; all the foundations of the earth are
shaken.
Keep not thou silence, O God: hold not thy peace, and be not still, O God.
O God, be not silent; be not speechless; be not still, O God.
Behold, O God our shield, and look upon the face of thine
anointed.
Take
notice of our shield, O God, and look with favor on the face of Your
anointed.
Wilt thou
not revive us again: that thy people may
rejoice in thee?
Will You
not revive us again, that Your people may
rejoice in You?
I will hear what God the LORD will speak: for he will speak peace unto his people, and to his saints: but let them not turn again to folly.
I will
listen to what God the LORD will say; for He will surely speak peace to His people and His saints; He will
not let them return to folly.
O God, the proud are risen against me, and the
assemblies of violent men have sought after my soul; and have
not set thee before them.
The
arrogant rise against me, O God; a band of
ruthless men seeks my life, with no regard for You.
The enemy shall
not exact upon him; nor the son of wickedness
afflict him.
No enemy will exact tribute; no wicked man will
oppress him.
If his children
forsake my law, and walk
not in my judgments;
If his sons
forsake My law and do
not walk in My judgments,
If they break my statutes, and keep not my commandments;
if they
violate My statutes and fail to keep My commandments,
Nevertheless my lovingkindness will I not utterly take from him, nor suffer my faithfulness to fail.
But I will
not withdraw My loving devotion from him, nor ever
betray My faithfulness.
My covenant will I not break, nor alter the thing that is gone out of my lips.
Once and for all I have
sworn by My
holiness— I will
not lie to David—

You have bent the edge of his sword and have not sustained him in battle.
What man is he that liveth, and shall
not see death? shall he deliver his soul from the hand of the grave?
Selah.
What man can live and never see death? Can he deliver his soul from the power of
Sheol?
Selah Thou shalt
not be afraid for the terror by night; nor for the
arrow that flieth by day;
You will
not fear the terror of the night, nor the
arrow that
flies by day,
A thousand shall fall at thy side, and ten thousand at thy right hand; but it shall
not come
nigh thee.
Though a thousand may fall at your side, and ten thousand at your right hand, no
harm will come near you.
They shall bear thee up in their hands, lest thou
dash thy foot against a stone.
They will lift you up in their hands, so that you will not strike your foot against a stone.
A senseless man does
not know, and a
fool does
not understand,
Yet they say, The LORD shall not see, neither shall the God of Jacob regard it.
They say, “The LORD does
not see; the God of Jacob pays no
heed.”
Understand, ye
brutish among the people: and ye fools, when will ye be wise?
Take notice, O senseless among the people! O fools, when will you be wise?
He that planted the ear, shall he not hear? he that formed the eye, shall he not see?
He who
affixed the ear, can He
not hear? He who formed the eye, can He
not see?

not cast off his people, neither will he
forsake his inheritance.
do
not harden your hearts as you did at Meribah, in the day at Massah in the wilderness,
Forty years long was I
grieved with this generation, and said, It is a people that do
err in their heart, and they have
not known my ways:
For forty years I was
angry with that generation, and I said, “They are a people whose hearts go
astray, and they have
not known My ways.”
Unto whom I
sware in my wrath that they should
not enter into my rest.
So I
swore on oath in My anger, “They shall never enter My rest.”
Say among the heathen that the LORD reigneth: the world also shall be established that it shall not be moved: he shall judge the people righteously.
Declare among the nations: “The LORD reigns!” The world is firmly established; it cannot be moved; He will judge the peoples with
equity.
Know ye that the LORD he is God: it is he that hath made us, and not we ourselves; we are his people, and the sheep of his pasture.
Know that the LORD is God. It is He who made us, and we are His; we are His people, and the sheep of His pasture.
I will set no wicked thing before mine eyes: I
hate the work of them that turn aside; it shall
not cleave to me.
I will set no worthless thing before my eyes. I
hate the work of those who fall away; it shall
not cling to me.
A
froward heart shall depart from me: I will
not know a wicked person.
A
perverse heart shall depart from me; I will know
nothing of evil.
Whoso privily slandereth his neighbour, him will I cut off: him that hath an high look and a proud heart will
not I suffer.

deceit shall
not dwell within my house: he that telleth lies shall
not tarry in my sight.
No one who practices
deceit shall dwell in my house; no one who tells lies shall stand in my presence.
Hide
not thy face from me in the day when I am in trouble;
incline thine ear unto me: in the day when I call answer me speedily.
Do
not hide Your face from me in my day of distress.
Incline Your ear to me; answer me quickly when I call.
He will regard the prayer of the destitute, and
not despise their prayer.
He will turn toward the prayer of the destitute; He will
not despise their prayer.
This shall be written for the generation to come: and the people which shall be created shall praise the LORD.
Let this be written for the generation to come, so that a people not yet created may praise the LORD.

I say: “O my God, do not take me in the midst of my days! Your years go on through all generations.
Bless the LORD, O my soul, and
forget not all his benefits:
Bless the LORD, O my soul, and do
not forget all His kind deeds—
He will
not always
chide: neither will he keep his anger for ever.
He hath
not dealt with us after our sins; nor rewarded us according to our
iniquities.
He has
not dealt with us according to our sins or repaid us according to our
iniquities.
Who laid the foundations of the earth, that it should not be removed for ever.
He set the earth on its foundations, never to be moved.
Thou hast set a bound that they may not pass over; that they turn not again to cover the earth.
You set a boundary they cannot cross, that they may never again cover the earth.
Saying, Touch
not mine
anointed, and do my prophets no
harm.
He sent darkness, and made it dark; and they rebelled not against his word.
He sent darkness, and it became dark— yet they
defied His words.
He brought them forth also with silver and gold: and there was not one feeble person among their tribes.
He brought Israel out with silver and gold, and none among His tribes
stumbled.
Our fathers understood
not thy wonders in Egypt; they remembered
not the multitude of thy
mercies; but
provoked him at the sea, even at the Red sea.
Our fathers in Egypt did
not grasp Your wonders or remember Your abundant kindness; but they rebelled by the sea, there at the Red Sea.
And the waters covered their enemies: there was not one of them left.
The waters covered their foes; not one of them remained.

forgat his works; they waited
not for his counsel:

forgot His works and failed to wait for His counsel.
Therefore he said that he would destroy them, had not Moses his chosen stood before him in the breach, to turn away his wrath, lest he should destroy them.
So He said He would destroy them— had
not Moses His chosen one stood before Him in the breach to
divert His wrath from destroying them.
Yea, they
despised the pleasant land, they believed
not his word:
They
despised the pleasant land; they did
not believe His promise.
They grumbled in their tents and did
not listen to the voice of the LORD.
They did not destroy the nations, concerning whom the LORD commanded them:
They did not destroy the peoples as the LORD had commanded them,
Nevertheless he regarded their
affliction, when he heard their cry:
Nevertheless He heard their cry; He took note of their distress.
He blesseth them also, so that they are multiplied greatly; and suffereth not their cattle to decrease.
He blesses them, and they multiply greatly; He does not let their herds diminish.
Wilt not thou, O God, who hast cast us off? and
wilt not thou, O God, go forth with our hosts?
Have You not rejected us, O God? Will You no longer march out, O God, with our armies?
Hold not thy peace, O God of my praise;
O God of my praise, be not silent.
Let the iniquity of his fathers be remembered with the LORD; and let
not the sin of his mother be
blotted out.
May the iniquity of his fathers be remembered before the LORD, and the sin of his mother never be
blotted out.
Because that he remembered
not to
shew mercy, but
persecuted the poor and
needy man, that he might even
slay the broken in heart.
For he never thought to show kindness, but pursued the poor and
needy and brokenhearted, even to their death.
As he loved
cursing, so let it come unto him: as he delighted
not in blessing, so let it be far from him.
The
cursing that he loved, may it fall on him; the blessing in which he refused to delight, may it be far from him.
Surely he will never be
shaken; the righteous man will be remembered
forever.
He shall
not be afraid of evil
tidings: his heart is fixed, trusting in the LORD.
He does
not fear bad news; his heart is
steadfast, trusting in the LORD.
His heart is established, he shall not be afraid, until he see his desire upon his enemies.
His heart is
assured; he does
not fear, until he looks in triumph on his foes.
Not unto us, O LORD, not unto us, but unto thy name give glory, for thy mercy, and for thy truth’s sake.
Not to us, O LORD, not to us, but to Your name be the glory, because of Your loving devotion, because of Your faithfulness.
They have mouths, but they speak not: eyes have they, but they see not:
They have mouths, but cannot speak; they have eyes, but cannot see;
They have ears, but they hear not: noses have they, but they smell not:
they have ears, but cannot hear; they have noses, but cannot smell;
They have hands, but they handle not: feet have they, but they walk not: neither speak they through their throat.
they have hands, but cannot feel; they have feet, but cannot walk; they cannot even clear their throats.
The dead praise not the LORD, neither any that go down into silence.
It is not the dead who praise the LORD, nor any who descend into silence.
The LORD is on my side; I will not fear: what can man do unto me?
The LORD is on my side; I will not be afraid. What can man do to me?
I shall not die, but live, and declare the works of the LORD.
I will
not die, but I will live and
proclaim what the LORD has done.
The LORD hath
chastened me
sore: but he hath
not given me over unto death.
The LORD disciplined me severely, but He has not given me over to death.
Then shall I
not be
ashamed, when I have respect unto all thy commandments.
Then I would
not be
ashamed when I consider all Your commandments.
I will keep thy statutes: O
forsake me
not utterly.
I will keep Your statutes; do
not utterly
forsake me.
With my whole heart have I sought thee: O let me
not wander from thy commandments.
With all my heart I have sought You; do
not let me
stray from Your commandments.
Thy word have I
hid in mine heart, that I might
not sin against thee.
I have hidden Your word in my heart that I might not sin against You.
