And the burnt
offering that the prince shall
offer unto the LORD in the sabbath day shall be six lambs without
blemish, and a ram without
blemish.
The burnt
offering that the prince presents to the LORD on the Sabbath day shall be six
unblemished male lambs and an
unblemished ram.
And the meat
offering shall be an
ephah for a ram, and the meat
offering for the lambs as he shall be able to give, and an
hin of oil to an
ephah.
The grain
offering with the ram shall be one
ephah, and the grain
offering with the lambs shall be as much as he is able, along with a
hin of oil per
ephah.
And in the day of the new moon it shall be a young
bullock without
blemish, and six lambs, and a ram: they shall be without
blemish.
On the day of the New Moon he shall
offer a young,
unblemished bull, six lambs, and a ram without
blemish.
And he shall prepare a meat
offering, an
ephah for a
bullock, and an
ephah for a ram, and for the lambs according as his hand shall attain unto, and an
hin of oil to an
ephah.
He is to provide a grain
offering of an
ephah with the bull, an
ephah with the ram, and as much as he is able with the lambs, along with a
hin of oil per
ephah.
And in the feasts and in the
solemnities the meat
offering shall be an
ephah to a
bullock, and
ephah to a ram, and to the lambs as he is able to give, and an
hin of oil to an
ephah.
At the festivals and appointed feasts, the grain
offering shall be an
ephah with a bull, an
ephah with a ram, and as much as one is able to give with the lambs, along with a
hin of oil per
ephah.
Now when the prince shall prepare a voluntary burnt
offering or peace
offerings voluntarily unto the LORD, one shall then open him the gate that looketh toward the east, and he shall prepare his burnt
offering and his peace
offerings, as he did on the sabbath day: then he shall go forth; and after his going forth one shall shut the gate.
When the prince makes a
freewill offering to the LORD, whether a burnt
offering or a peace
offering, the gate facing east must be opened for him. He is to
offer his burnt
offering or peace
offering just as he does on the Sabbath day. Then he shall go out, and the gate must be closed after he goes out.
Thou shalt daily prepare a burnt
offering unto the LORD of a lamb of the first year without
blemish: thou shalt prepare it every morning.
And you shall provide an
unblemished year-old lamb as a daily burnt
offering to the LORD; you are to
offer it every morning.
And thou shalt prepare a meat
offering for it every morning, the sixth part of an
ephah, and the third part of an
hin of oil, to temper with the fine flour; a meat
offering continually by a perpetual
ordinance unto the LORD.
You are also to provide with it every morning a grain
offering of a sixth of an
ephah with a third of a
hin of oil to
moisten the fine flour—a grain
offering to the LORD. This is a permanent statute.
Thus shall they prepare the lamb, and the meat offering, and the oil, every morning for a continual burnt offering.
Thus they shall provide the lamb, the grain offering, and the oil every morning as a regular burnt offering.’
Then said he unto me, This is the place where the priests shall
boil the
trespass offering and the sin
offering, where they shall
bake the meat
offering; that they bear them not out into the utter court, to
sanctify the people.
and said to me, “This is the place where the priests shall
boil the guilt
offering and the sin
offering, and where they shall
bake the grain
offering, so that they do not bring them into the outer court and
transmit holiness to the people.”
Then said he unto me, These are the places of them that
boil, where the ministers of the house shall
boil the sacrifice of the people.
And he said to me, “These are the kitchens where those who minister at the temple will
cook the sacrifices
offered by the people.”
And by the border of Judah, from the east side unto the west side, shall be the offering which ye shall offer of five and twenty thousand reeds in breadth, and in length as one of the other parts, from the east side unto the west side: and the sanctuary shall be in the midst of it.
Bordering the territory of Judah, from east to west, will be the portion you are to set apart. It will be 25,000 cubits wide, and the length of a
tribal portion from east to west. In the center will be the sanctuary.
The
oblation that ye shall
offer unto the LORD shall be of five and twenty thousand in length, and of ten thousand in breadth.
The special portion you set apart to the LORD shall be 25,000 cubits long and 10,000 cubits wide.
And this
oblation of the land that is
offered shall be unto them a thing most holy by the border of the Levites.
It will be a special portion for them set apart from the land, a most holy portion adjacent to the territory of the Levites.
All the
oblation shall be five and twenty thousand by five and twenty thousand: ye shall
offer the holy
oblation foursquare, with the possession of the city.
The entire portion will be a square, 25,000 cubits by 25,000 cubits. You are to set apart the holy portion, along with the city property.
Then the king
Nebuchadnezzar fell upon his face, and worshipped Daniel, and commanded that they should
offer an
oblation and sweet odours unto him.
At this, King
Nebuchadnezzar fell on his face, paid
homage to Daniel, and ordered that an
offering of incense be presented to him.
And he shall
confirm the covenant with many for one week: and in the midst of the week he shall cause the sacrifice and the
oblation to cease, and for the overspreading of abominations he shall make it
desolate, even until the
consummation, and that determined shall be poured upon the
desolate.
And he will
confirm a covenant with many for one week, but in the middle of the week he will put an end to sacrifice and
offering. And on the wing of the temple will come the
abomination that causes
desolation, until the decreed destruction is poured out upon him.”
After this shall he turn his face unto the isles, and shall take many: but a prince for his own behalf shall cause the reproach offered by him to cease; without his own reproach he shall cause it to turn upon him.
Then he will turn his face to the coastlands and capture many of them. But a commander will put an end to his reproach and will turn it back upon him.
Then said the LORD unto me, Go yet, love a woman beloved of her friend, yet an
adulteress, according to the love of the LORD toward the children of Israel, who look to other gods, and love flagons of wine.
Then the LORD said to me, “Go show love to your wife again, though she is loved by another and is an
adulteress. Love her as the LORD loves the Israelites, though they turn to other gods and
offer raisin cakes to idols.”
Yet let no man
strive, nor reprove another: for thy people are as they that
strive with the priest.
But let no man
contend; let no man
offer reproof; for your people are like those who
contend with a priest.
They sacrifice upon the tops of the mountains, and burn incense upon the hills, under oaks and poplars and elms, because the shadow thereof is good: therefore your daughters shall commit
whoredom, and your spouses shall commit
adultery.
They sacrifice on the mountaintops and burn
offerings on the hills, under oak,
poplar, and
terebinth, because their shade is pleasant. And so your daughters turn to
prostitution and your daughters-in-law to
adultery.
I will not
punish your daughters when they commit
whoredom, nor your spouses when they commit
adultery: for themselves are separated with whores, and they sacrifice with harlots: therefore the people that
doth not understand shall fall.
I will not
punish your daughters when they
prostitute themselves, nor your daughters-in-law when they commit
adultery. For the men themselves go off with prostitutes and
offer sacrifices with
shrine prostitutes. So a people without understanding will come to ruin.
For I desired mercy, and not sacrifice; and the knowledge of God more than burnt offerings.
For I desire mercy, not sacrifice, and the knowledge of God rather than burnt offerings.
They sacrifice flesh for the sacrifices of mine offerings, and eat it; but the LORD accepteth them not; now will he remember their iniquity, and visit their sins: they shall return to Egypt.
Though they
offer sacrifices as gifts to Me, and though they eat the meat, the LORD does not accept them. Now He will remember their iniquity and
punish their sins: They will return to Egypt.
They shall not
offer wine
offerings to the LORD, neither shall they be pleasing unto him: their sacrifices shall be unto them as the bread of mourners; all that eat thereof shall be
polluted: for their bread for their soul shall not come into the house of the LORD.
They will not pour out wine
offerings to the LORD, and their sacrifices will not please Him, but will be to them like the bread of mourners; all who eat will be
defiled. For their bread will be for themselves; it will not enter the house of the LORD.
And now they sin more and more, and have made them
molten images of their silver, and idols according to their own understanding, all of it the work of the
craftsmen: they say of them, Let the men that sacrifice
kiss the
calves.
Now they sin more and more and make for themselves cast images, idols
skillfully made from their silver, all of them the work of
craftsmen. People say of them, “They
offer human sacrifice and
kiss the
calves!”
The meat
offering and the drink
offering is cut off from the house of the LORD; the priests, the LORD’S ministers,
mourn.
Grain and drink
offerings have been cut off from the house of the LORD; the priests are in
mourning, those who minister before the LORD.
Gird yourselves, and
lament, ye priests:
howl, ye ministers of the altar: come, lie all night in
sackcloth, ye ministers of my God: for the meat
offering and the drink
offering is
withholden from the house of your God.
Put on
sackcloth and
lament, O priests;
wail, O ministers of the altar. Come,
spend the night in
sackcloth, O ministers of my God, because the grain and drink
offerings are
withheld from the house of your God.
Who knoweth if he will return and
repent, and leave a blessing behind him; even a meat
offering and a drink
offering unto the LORD your God?
Who knows? He may turn and relent and leave a blessing behind Him— grain and drink offerings for the LORD your God.
Offer leavened bread as a
thank offering, and loudly
proclaim your
freewill offerings. For that is what you children of Israel love to do,” declares the Lord GOD.
Though ye offer me burnt offerings and your meat offerings, I will not accept them: neither will I regard the peace offerings of your fat beasts.
Even though you
offer Me burnt
offerings and grain
offerings, I will not accept them; for your peace
offerings of
fattened cattle I will have no regard.
Have ye offered unto me sacrifices and offerings in the wilderness forty years, O house of Israel?
Did you bring Me sacrifices and offerings forty years in the wilderness, O house of Israel?
Then the men feared the LORD exceedingly, and offered a sacrifice unto the LORD, and made vows.
Then the men feared the LORD greatly, and they offered a sacrifice to the LORD and made vows to Him.
Wherewith shall I come before the LORD, and bow myself before the high God? shall I come before him with burnt
offerings, with
calves of a year old?
With what shall I come before the LORD when I bow before the God on high? Should I come to Him with burnt
offerings, with year-old
calves?
From beyond the rivers of
Ethiopia my suppliants, even the daughter of my
dispersed, shall bring mine
offering.
From beyond the rivers of
Cush My worshipers, My scattered people, will bring Me an
offering.
Then answered
Haggai, and said, So is this people, and so is this nation before me, saith the LORD; and so is every work of their hands; and that which they
offer there is unclean.
Then
Haggai replied, “So it is with this people and this nation before Me, declares the LORD, and so it is with every work of their hands; whatever they
offer there is
defiled.
Take of them of the captivity, even of Heldai, of Tobijah, and of Jedaiah, which are come from Babylon, and come thou the same day, and go into the house of
Josiah the son of
Zephaniah;
“Take an
offering from the exiles—from Heldai, Tobijah, and Jedaiah, who have arrived from Babylon—and go that same day to the house of
Josiah son of
Zephaniah.
For the idols have spoken vanity, and the diviners have seen a lie, and have told false dreams; they comfort in vain: therefore they went their way as a flock, they were troubled, because there was no
shepherd.
For idols speak
deceit and diviners see illusions; they tell false dreams and
offer empty comfort. Therefore the people
wander like sheep,
oppressed for lack of a
shepherd.
Ye
offer polluted bread upon mine altar; and ye say, Wherein have we
polluted thee? In that ye say, The table of the LORD is contemptible.
By presenting
defiled food on My altar. But you ask, ‘How have we
defiled You?’ By saying that the table of the LORD is contemptible.
And if ye
offer the blind for sacrifice, is it not evil? and if ye
offer the
lame and sick, is it not evil?
offer it now unto thy governor; will he be pleased with thee, or accept thy person? saith the LORD of hosts.
When you
offer blind animals for sacrifice, is it not wrong? And when you present the
lame and sick ones, is it not wrong? Try
offering them to your governor! Would he be pleased with you or show you favor?” asks the LORD of Hosts.
Who is there even among you that would shut the doors for
nought? neither do ye
kindle fire on mine altar for
nought. I have no pleasure in you, saith the LORD of hosts, neither will I accept an
offering at your hand.
“Oh, that one of you would shut the temple doors, so that you would no longer
kindle useless fires on My altar! I take no pleasure in you,” says the LORD of Hosts, “and I will accept no
offering from your hands.
For from the rising of the sun even unto the going down of the same my name shall be great among the Gentiles; and in every place incense shall be offered unto my name, and a pure offering: for my name shall be great among the heathen, saith the LORD of hosts.
For My name will be great among the nations, from where the sun rises to where it sets. In every place, incense and pure offerings will be presented in My name, because My name will be great among the nations,” says the LORD of Hosts.
Ye said also, Behold, what a
weariness is it! and ye have
snuffed at it, saith the LORD of hosts; and ye brought that which was
torn, and the
lame, and the sick; thus ye brought an
offering: should I accept this of your hand? saith the LORD.
You also say: ‘Oh, what a
nuisance!’ And you turn up your nose at it,” says the LORD of Hosts. “You bring
offerings that are
stolen,
lame, or sick! Should I accept these from your hands?” asks the LORD.
The LORD will cut off the man that doeth this, the master and the scholar, out of the tabernacles of Jacob, and him that offereth an offering unto the LORD of hosts.
As for the man who does this, may the LORD cut off from the tents of Jacob
everyone who is
awake and aware—even if he brings an
offering to the LORD of Hosts.
And this have ye done again, covering the altar of the LORD with tears, with
weeping, and with crying out,
insomuch that he regardeth not the
offering any more, or receiveth it with good will at your hand.
And this is another thing you do: You cover the altar of the LORD with tears, with
weeping and
groaning, because He no longer regards your
offerings or receives them
gladly from your hands.
And he shall sit as a refiner and
purifier of silver: and he shall
purify the sons of Levi, and
purge them as gold and silver, that they may
offer unto the LORD an
offering in righteousness.
And He will sit as a refiner and
purifier of silver; He will
purify the sons of Levi and refine them like gold and silver. Then they will present
offerings to the LORD in righteousness.
Then shall the offering of Judah and Jerusalem be pleasant unto the LORD, as in the days of old, and as in former years.
Then the offerings of Judah and Jerusalem will please the LORD, as in days of old and years gone by.
Will a man
rob God? Yet ye have
robbed me. But ye say, Wherein have we
robbed thee? In
tithes and
offerings.
Will a man
rob God? Yet you are
robbing Me! But you ask, ‘How do we
rob You?’ In
tithes and
offerings.
Therefore if thou bring thy gift to the altar, and there rememberest that thy brother hath ought against thee;
So if you are offering your gift at the altar and there remember that your brother has something against you,
Leave there thy gift before the altar, and go thy way; first be
reconciled to thy brother, and then come and
offer thy gift.
leave your gift there before the altar. First go and be
reconciled to your brother; then come and
offer your gift.
And Jesus saith unto him, See thou tell no man; but go thy way,
shew thyself to the priest, and
offer the gift that Moses commanded, for a testimony unto them.
Then Jesus
instructed him, “See that you don’t tell
anyone. But go, show
yourself to the priest and
offer the gift prescribed by Moses, as a testimony to them.”
They gave him
vinegar to drink mingled with gall: and when he had tasted thereof, he would not drink.
they offered Him wine to drink, mixed with gall; but after tasting it, He refused to drink it.
And saith unto him, See thou say nothing to any man: but go thy way,
shew thyself to the priest, and
offer for thy
cleansing those things which Moses commanded, for a testimony unto them.
“See that you don’t tell
anyone. But go, show
yourself to the priest and present the
offering Moses prescribed for your
cleansing, as a testimony to them.”
And to love him with all the heart, and with all the understanding, and with all the soul, and with all the strength, and to love his neighbour as himself, is more than all whole burnt offerings and sacrifices.
and to love Him with all your heart and with all your understanding and with all your strength, and to love your
neighbor as
yourself, which is more important than all burnt
offerings and sacrifices.”
And they gave him to drink wine mingled with
myrrh: but he received it not.
There they
offered Him wine mixed with
myrrh, but He did not take it.
And the whole multitude of the people were praying without at the time of incense.
And at the hour of the incense offering, the whole congregation was praying outside.
And to offer a sacrifice according to that which is said in the law of the Lord, A pair of turtledoves, or two young pigeons.
and to offer the sacrifice specified in the Law of the Lord: “A pair of turtledoves or two young pigeons.”
And he charged him to tell no man: but go, and
shew thyself to the priest, and
offer for thy
cleansing, according as Moses commanded, for a testimony unto them.
“Do not tell
anyone,” Jesus
instructed him. “But go, show
yourself to the priest and present the
offering Moses prescribed for your
cleansing, as a testimony to them.”
And unto him that smiteth thee on the one
cheek offer also the other; and him that taketh away thy
cloke forbid not to take thy coat also.
If someone strikes you on one
cheek, turn to him the other also. And if someone takes your
cloak, do not
withhold your
tunic as well.
And in the same house remain, eating and drinking such things as they give: for the labourer is worthy of his
hire. Go not from house to house.
Stay at the same house, eating and drinking whatever you are offered. For the worker is worthy of his wages. Do not move around from house to house.
Or if he shall ask an egg, will he
offer him a
scorpion?
Or if he asks for an egg, will give him a
scorpion?
For all these have of their abundance cast in unto the
offerings of God: but she of her
penury hath cast in all the living that she had.
For they all contributed out of their
surplus, but she out of her poverty has put in all she had to live on.”
And the soldiers also
mocked him, coming to him, and
offering him
vinegar,
The soldiers also
mocked Him and came up to
offer Him
sour wine.
They shall put you out of the synagogues:
yea, the time cometh, that
whosoever killeth you will think that he doeth God service.
They will put you out of the synagogues. In fact, a time is coming when
anyone who kills you will think he is
offering a service to God.
And they made a
calf in those days, and
offered sacrifice unto the
idol, and
rejoiced in the works of their own hands.
At that time they made a
calf and
offered a sacrifice to the
idol,
rejoicing in the works of their hands.
Then God turned, and gave them up to worship the host of heaven; as it is written in the book of the prophets, O ye house of Israel, have ye offered to me slain beasts and sacrifices by the space of forty years in the wilderness?
But God turned away from them and gave them over to the worship of the host of heaven, as it is written in the book of the prophets: ‘Did you bring Me sacrifices and offerings forty years in the wilderness, O house of Israel?
And when Simon saw that through laying on of the apostles’ hands the Holy Ghost was given, he offered them money,
When Simon saw that the Spirit was given through the laying on of the apostles’ hands, he offered them money.
And when he looked on him, he was afraid, and said, What is it, Lord? And he said unto him, Thy prayers and thine
alms are come up for a
memorial before God.
Cornelius stared at him in fear and asked, “What is it, Lord?” The angel answered, “Your prayers and gifts to the poor have ascended as a
memorial offering before God.
Then the priest of Jupiter, which was before their city, brought oxen and garlands unto the gates, and would have done sacrifice with the people.
The priest of Zeus, whose temple was just outside the city, brought bulls and
wreaths to the city gates, hoping to
offer a sacrifice along with the crowds.
You must
abstain from food sacrificed to idols, from blood, from the meat of
strangled animals, and from sexual immorality. You will do well to avoid these things.
Farewell.
As touching the Gentiles which believe, we have written and concluded that they observe no such thing, save only that they keep themselves from things
offered to idols, and from blood, and from
strangled, and from
fornication.
As for the
Gentile believers, we have written to them our decision that they must
abstain from food sacrificed to idols, from blood, from the meat of
strangled animals, and from sexual immorality.”
Then Paul took the men, and the next day
purifying himself with them entered into the temple, to
signify the
accomplishment of the days of
purification, until that an
offering should be
offered for every one of them.
So the next day Paul took the men and
purified himself along with them. Then he entered the temple to give notice of the date when their
purification would be complete and the
offering would be made for each of them.
Now after many years I came to bring
alms to my nation, and
offerings.
After several years, then, I returned to Jerusalem to bring
alms to my people and to present
offerings.
He hoped also that money should have been given him of Paul, that he might loose him: wherefore he sent for him the oftener, and communed with him.
At the same time, he was hoping that Paul would
offer him a
bribe. So he sent for Paul frequently and talked with him.
Know ye not, that to whom ye yield
yourselves servants to obey, his servants ye are to whom ye obey; whether of sin unto death, or of obedience unto righteousness?
Do you not know that when you
offer yourselves as
obedient slaves, you are slaves to the one you obey, whether you are slaves to sin leading to death, or to obedience leading to righteousness?
I speak after the manner of men because of the
infirmity of your flesh: for as ye have yielded your members servants to uncleanness and to iniquity unto iniquity; even so now yield your members servants to righteousness unto
holiness.
I am speaking in human terms because of the weakness of your flesh. Just as you used to
offer the parts of your body in slavery to impurity and to escalating wickedness, so now
offer them in slavery to righteousness leading to
holiness.
For what the law could not do, in that it was weak through the flesh, God sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh, and for sin, condemned sin in the flesh:
For what the law was powerless to do in that it was
weakened by the flesh, God did by sending His own Son in the likeness of sinful man, as an
offering for sin. He thus condemned sin in the flesh,
I
beseech you therefore, brethren, by the
mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service.
Therefore I
urge you, brothers, on account of God’s mercy, to
offer your bodies as living sacrifices, holy and pleasing to God, which is your spiritual service of worship.
That I should be the minister of Jesus Christ to the Gentiles, ministering the gospel of God, that the
offering up of the Gentiles might be acceptable, being
sanctified by the Holy Ghost.
to be a minister of Christ Jesus to the Gentiles in the priestly service of the gospel of God, so that the Gentiles might become an
offering acceptable to God,
sanctified by the Holy Spirit.
Now as touching things offered unto idols, we know that we all have knowledge. Knowledge puffeth up, but charity edifieth.
Now about food sacrificed to idols: We know that we all have knowledge. Knowledge puffs up, but love builds up.
As concerning therefore the eating of those things that are
offered in sacrifice unto idols, we know that an
idol is nothing in the world, and that there is none other God but one.
So about eating food sacrificed to idols: We know that an
idol is nothing at all in the world, and that there is no God but one.
Howbeit there is not in every man that knowledge: for some with conscience of the
idol unto this hour eat it as a thing
offered unto an
idol; and their conscience being weak is
defiled.
But not
everyone has this knowledge. Some people are still so accustomed to idols that they eat such food as if it were sacrificed to an
idol. And since their conscience is weak, it is
defiled.
For if any man see thee which hast knowledge sit at meat in the
idol’s temple, shall not the conscience of him which is weak be
emboldened to eat those things which are
offered to idols;
For if someone with a weak conscience sees you who are well informed eating in an
idol’s temple, will he not be encouraged to eat food sacrificed to idols?
Do ye not know that they which minister about holy things live of the things of the temple? and they which wait at the altar are partakers with the altar?
Do you not know that those who work in the temple eat of its food, and those who serve at the altar
partake of its
offerings?
What is my reward then?
Verily that, when I
preach the gospel, I may make the gospel of Christ without charge, that I
abuse not my power in the gospel.
What then is my reward? That in preaching the gospel I may offer it free of charge, and so not use up my rights in preaching it.
What say I then? that the
idol is any thing, or that which is
offered in sacrifice to idols is any thing?
Am I suggesting, then, that food sacrificed to an
idol is anything, or that an
idol is anything?
But I say, that the things which the Gentiles sacrifice, they sacrifice to devils, and not to God: and I would not that ye should have
fellowship with devils.
No, but the sacrifices of pagans are offered to demons, not to God. And I do not want you to be participants with demons.
But if any man say unto you, This is
offered in sacrifice unto idols, eat not for his sake that shewed it, and for conscience sake: for the earth is the Lord’s, and the
fulness thereof:
But if someone tells you, “This food was offered to idols,” then do not eat it, for the sake of the one who told you and for the sake of conscience—
Now in this that I declare unto you I praise you not, that ye come together not for the better, but for the worse.
In the following instructions I have no praise to
offer, because your gatherings do more
harm than good.
And not that only, but who was also chosen of the churches to travel with us with this grace, which is administered by us to the glory of the same Lord, and declaration of your ready mind:
More than that, this brother was chosen by the churches to
accompany us with the
offering—the
gracious gift we
administer to honor the Lord Himself and to show our eagerness to help.
And walk in love, as Christ also hath loved us, and hath given himself for us an offering and a sacrifice to God for a sweetsmelling savour.
and walk in love, just as Christ loved us and gave Himself up for us as a
fragrant sacrificial offering to God.
Yea, and if I be
offered upon the sacrifice and service of your faith, I joy, and
rejoice with you all.
But even if I am being poured out like a drink
offering on the sacrifice and service of your faith, I am
glad and
rejoice with all of you.
But I have all, and abound: I am full, having received of Epaphroditus the things which were sent from you, an odour of a sweet smell, a sacrifice acceptable, wellpleasing to God.
I have all I need and more, now that I have received your gifts from Epaphroditus. They are a
fragrant offering, an acceptable sacrifice, well-pleasing to God.
Not because we have not power, but to make ourselves an
ensample unto you to follow us.
Not that we lack this right, but we wanted to
offer ourselves as an example for you to
imitate.
I
exhort therefore, that, first of all, supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of
thanks, be made for all men;
For I am now ready to be offered, and the time of my departure is at hand.
For I am already being poured out like a drink offering, and the time of my departure is at hand.
For every high priest taken from among men is ordained for men in things pertaining to God, that he may offer both gifts and sacrifices for sins:
Every high priest is appointed from among men to represent them in matters relating to God, to offer gifts and sacrifices for sins.
And by reason
hereof he ought, as for the people, so also for himself, to
offer for sins.
That is why he is
obligated to
offer sacrifices for his own sins, as well as for the sins of the people.
Who in the days of his flesh, when he had offered up prayers and supplications with strong crying and tears unto him that was able to save him from death, and was heard in that he feared;
During the days of Jesus’ earthly life, He
offered up prayers and petitions with loud
cries and tears to the One who could save Him from death, and He was heard because of His reverence.
Who needeth not daily, as those high priests, to offer up sacrifice, first for his own sins, and then for the people’s: for this he did once, when he offered up himself.
Unlike the other high priests, He does not need to offer daily sacrifices, first for His own sins and then for the sins of the people; He sacrificed for sin once for all when He offered up Himself.
