thyself, I
pray thee, from me: if thou
wilt take the left hand, then I will go to the right; or if thou depart to the right hand, then I will go to the left.

yourself from me. If you go to the left, I will go to the right; if you go to the right, I will go to the left.”

And he said, O LORD God of my master Abraham, I
pray thee, send me good speed this day, and
shew kindness unto my master Abraham.

damsel to whom I shall say, Let down thy pitcher, I
pray thee, that I may drink; and she shall say, Drink, and I will give thy camels drink also: let the same be she that thou hast appointed for thy servant Isaac; and thereby shall I know that thou hast shewed kindness unto my master.
Now may it happen that the

praying,
Rebekah came out with her
jar on her shoulder. She was the daughter of

spend the night?”

prayed: O LORD, God of my master Abraham, if only You would make my journey a success!
Behold, I stand by the well of water; and it shall come to pass, that when the virgin cometh forth to draw water, and I say to her, Give me, I pray thee, a little water of thy pitcher to drink;
Here I am, standing beside this spring. Now if a
maiden comes out to draw water and I say to her, ‘Please let me drink a little water from your
jar,’
And before I had done speaking in mine heart, behold,
Rebekah came forth with her pitcher on her shoulder; and she went down unto the well, and drew water: and I said unto her, Let me drink, I
pray thee.
And before I had finished
praying in my heart, there was
Rebekah coming out with her
jar on her shoulder, and she went down to the spring and drew water. So I said to her, ‘Please give me a drink.’

Esau said to Jacob, Feed me, I
pray thee, with that same red
pottage; for I am
faint: therefore was his name called
Edom.
He said to Jacob, “Let me eat some of that red
stew, for I am
famished.” (That is why he was also called
Edom.)
Now therefore take, I
pray thee, thy weapons, thy
quiver and thy bow, and go out to the field, and take me some
venison;
Take your weapons—your
quiver and bow—and go out into the field to
hunt some game for me.
And Jacob said unto his father, I am
Esau thy
firstborn; I have done according as thou badest me: arise, I
pray thee, sit and eat of my
venison, that thy soul may
bless me.

Esau, your

And
Laban said unto him, I
pray thee, if I have found favour in thine eyes,

divination that the LORD has blessed me because of you.”

pray thee, from the hand of my brother, from the hand of

And Jacob asked him, and said, Tell me, I

And Jacob said,
Nay, I
pray thee, if now I have found grace in thy sight, then receive my present at my hand: for therefore I have seen thy face, as though I had seen the face of God, and thou
wast pleased with me.
But Jacob insisted, “No, please! If I have found favor in your sight, then receive this gift from my hand. For indeed, I have seen your face, and it is like seeing the face of God, since you have received me
favorably.
Take, I
pray thee, my blessing that is brought to thee; because God hath dealt
graciously with me, and because I have enough. And he urged him, and he took it.
Please accept my gift that was brought to you, because God has been
gracious to me and I have all I need.” So Jacob pressed him until he accepted.
Let my lord, I
pray thee, pass over before his servant: and I will lead on softly, according as the cattle that goeth before me and the children be able to
endure, until I come unto my lord unto
Seir.
Please let my lord go
ahead of his servant. I will continue on slowly, at a comfortable
pace for the
livestock and children, until I come to my lord at
Seir.”

He said to them, “
Listen to this dream I had:
And he said to him, Go, I
pray thee, see whether it be well with thy brethren, and well with the flocks; and bring me word again. So he sent him out of the
vale of
Hebron, and he came to
Shechem.
Then Israel told him, “Go now and see how your brothers and the flocks are faring, and bring word back to me.” So he sent him off from the Valley of
Hebron. And when Joseph arrived in
Shechem,
And he said, I seek my brethren: tell me, I pray thee, where they feed their flocks.
“I am looking for my brothers,” Joseph replied. “Can you please tell me where they are pasturing their flocks?”
And he turned unto her by the way, and said, Go to, I
pray thee, let me come in unto thee; (for he knew not that she was his daughter in law.) And she said, What
wilt thou give me, that thou mayest come in unto me?
Not
realizing that she was his daughter-in-law, he went over to her and said, “Come now, let me sleep with you.” “What will you give me for sleeping with you?” she inquired.
When she was brought forth, she sent to her father in law, saying, By the man, whose these are, am I with child: and she said,
Discern, I
pray thee, whose are these, the
signet, and bracelets, and staff.
As she was being brought out, Tamar sent a message to her father-in-law: “I am
pregnant by the man to whom these items belong.” And she added, “Please examine them. Whose seal and cord and staff are these?”
And they said unto him, We have dreamed a dream, and there is no
interpreter of it. And Joseph said unto them, Do not interpretations belong to God? tell me them, I
pray you.
“We both had dreams,” they replied, “but there is no one to
interpret them.” Then Joseph said to them, “Don’t interpretations belong to God? Tell me your dreams.”
But think on me when it shall be well with thee, and

pray thee, unto me, and make mention of me unto Pharaoh, and bring me out of this house:

Then Judah came near unto him, and said, Oh my lord, let thy servant, I pray thee, speak a word in my lord’s ears, and let not thine anger burn against thy servant: for thou art even as Pharaoh.

angry with your servant, for you are equal to Pharaoh himself.
Now therefore, I
pray thee, let thy servant
abide instead of the
lad a
bondman to my lord; and let the
lad go up with his brethren.
Now please let your servant stay here as my lord’s slave in place of the boy. Let him return with his brothers.
And Joseph said unto his brethren, Come near to me, I pray you. And they came near. And he said, I am Joseph your brother, whom ye sold into Egypt.

They said moreover unto Pharaoh, For to
sojourn in the land are we come; for thy servants have no pasture for their flocks; for the famine is
sore in the land of
Canaan: now therefore, we
pray thee, let thy servants dwell in the land of
Goshen.
Then they said to Pharaoh, “We have come to live in the land for a time, because there is no pasture for the flocks of your servants, since the famine in the land of
Canaan has been severe. So now, please allow your servants to settle in the land of
Goshen.”
And the time drew
nigh that Israel must die: and he called his son Joseph, and said unto him, If now I have found grace in thy sight, put, I
pray thee, thy hand under my
thigh, and deal kindly and truly with me;
bury me not, I
pray thee, in Egypt:
When the time drew near for Israel to die, he called his son Joseph and said to him, “If I have found favor in your eyes, put your hand under my
thigh and promise to show me kindness and faithfulness. Do not
bury me in Egypt,
And Joseph said unto his father, They are my sons, whom God hath given me in this place. And he said, Bring them, I
pray thee, unto me, and I will

Joseph said to his father, “They are the sons God has given me in this place.” So Jacob said, “Please bring them to me, that I may
bless them.”
And when the days of his
mourning were past, Joseph spake unto the house of Pharaoh, saying, If now I have found grace in your eyes, speak, I
pray you, in the ears of Pharaoh, saying,
When the days of
mourning had passed, Joseph said to Pharaoh’s court, “If I have found favor in your eyes, please tell Pharaoh that
My father made me
swear, saying, Lo, I die: in my grave which I have
digged for me in the land of
Canaan, there shalt thou
bury me. Now therefore let me go up, I
pray thee, and
bury my father, and I will come again.
my father made me
swear an oath when he said, ‘I am about to die. You must
bury me in the tomb that I
dug for myself in the land of
Canaan.’ Now let me go and
bury my father, and then return.”
So shall ye say unto Joseph,
Forgive, I
pray thee now, the
trespass of thy brethren, and their sin; for they did unto thee evil: and now, we
pray thee,
forgive the
trespass of the servants of the God of thy father. And Joseph
wept when they spake unto him.
‘This is what you are to say to Joseph: I
beg you, please
forgive the
transgression and sin of your brothers, for they did you wrong.’ So now, Joseph, please
forgive the
transgression of the servants of the God of your father.” When their message came to him, Joseph
wept.
And he said, O my Lord, send, I
pray thee, by the hand of him whom thou
wilt send.
But Moses replied, “Please, Lord, send someone else.”
And Moses went and returned to Jethro his father in law, and said unto him, Let me go, I pray thee, and return unto my brethren which are in Egypt, and see whether they be yet alive. And Jethro said to Moses, Go in peace.
Then Moses went back to his father-in-law Jethro and said to him, “Please let me return to my brothers in Egypt to see if they are still alive.” “Go in peace,” Jethro replied.
And they said, The God of the Hebrews hath met with us: let us go, we
pray thee, three days’ journey into the desert, and sacrifice unto the LORD our God; lest he fall upon us with
pestilence, or with the sword.
“The God of the Hebrews has met with us,” they answered. “Please let us go on a three-day journey into the wilderness to sacrifice to the LORD our God, or He may strike us with plagues or with the sword.”
Then Pharaoh called for Moses and Aaron, and said, Intreat the LORD, that he may take away the frogs from me, and from my people; and I will let the people go, that they may do sacrifice unto the LORD.
Pharaoh summoned Moses and Aaron and said, “Pray to the LORD to take the frogs away from me and my people. Then I will let your people go, that they may sacrifice to the LORD.”
And Moses said unto Pharaoh, Glory over me: when shall I intreat for thee, and for thy servants, and for thy people, to destroy the frogs from thee and thy houses, that they may remain in the river only?
Moses said to Pharaoh, “You may have the honor over me. When shall I pray for you and your officials and your people that the frogs (except for those in the Nile) may be taken away from you and your houses?”
And Pharaoh said, I will let you go, that ye may sacrifice to the LORD your God in the wilderness; only ye shall not go very far away: intreat for me.
Pharaoh answered, “I will let you go and sacrifice to the LORD your God in the wilderness, but you must not go very far. Now pray for me.”
And Moses said, Behold, I go out from thee, and I will intreat the LORD that the swarms of
flies may depart from Pharaoh, from his servants, and from his people, to
morrow: but let not Pharaoh deal
deceitfully any more in not
letting the people go to sacrifice to the LORD.
“As soon as I leave you,” Moses said, “I will
pray to the LORD, so that
tomorrow the swarms of
flies will depart from Pharaoh and his officials and his people. But Pharaoh must not act
deceitfully again by refusing to let the people go and sacrifice to the LORD.”
And Moses went out from Pharaoh, and intreated the LORD.
Then Moses left Pharaoh and prayed to the LORD,
Intreat the LORD (for it is enough) that there be no more mighty thunderings and
hail; and I will let you go, and ye shall stay no longer.
Pray to the LORD, for there has been enough of God’s
thunder and
hail. I will let you go; you do not need to stay any longer.”
Now therefore
forgive, I
pray thee, my sin only this once, and intreat the LORD your God, that he may take away from me this death only.
Now please
forgive my sin once more and appeal to the LORD your God, that He may remove this death from me.”
Yet now, if thou
wilt forgive their sin—; and if not,
blot me, I
pray thee, out of thy book which thou hast written.
Yet now, if You would only
forgive their sin.... But if not, please
blot me out of the book that You have written.”
Now therefore, I
pray thee, if I have found grace in thy sight,
shew me now thy way, that I may know thee, that I may find grace in thy sight: and consider that this nation is thy people.
Now if indeed I have found favor in Your sight, please let me know Your ways, that I may know You and find favor in Your sight. Remember that this nation is Your people.”
And he said, If now I have found grace in thy sight, O Lord, let my Lord, I
pray thee, go among us; for it is a stiffnecked people; and
pardon our iniquity and our sin, and take us for thine inheritance.
“O Lord,” he said, “if I have indeed found favor in Your sight, my Lord, please go with us. Although this is a stiff-necked people,
forgive our iniquity and sin, and take us as Your inheritance.”
And he said, Leave us not, I
pray thee;
forasmuch as thou knowest how we are to
encamp in the wilderness, and thou mayest be to us instead of eyes.
“Please do not leave us,” Moses said, “since you know where we should camp in the wilderness, and you can serve as our eyes.
And the people
cried unto Moses; and when Moses
prayed unto the LORD, the fire was
quenched.
And the people
cried out to Moses, and he
prayed to the LORD, and the fire died down.
And if thou deal thus with me, kill me, I
pray thee, out of hand, if I have found favour in thy sight; and let me not see my
wretchedness.
If this is how You are going to treat me, please kill me right now—if I have found favor in Your eyes—and let me not see my own
wretchedness.”
And now, I
beseech thee, let the power of my Lord be great, according as thou hast spoken, saying,
So now I
pray, may the power of my Lord be
magnified, just as You have declared:
Pardon, I
beseech thee, the iniquity of this people according unto the greatness of thy mercy, and as thou hast
forgiven this people, from Egypt even until now.
Pardon, I
pray, the iniquity of this people, in keeping with the greatness of Your loving devotion, just as You have
forgiven them ever since they left Egypt.”
And Moses said unto
Korah, Hear, I
pray you, ye sons of Levi:
Moses also said to
Korah, “Now
listen, you sons of Levi!
And he spake unto the congregation, saying, Depart, I pray you, from the tents of these wicked men, and touch nothing of theirs, lest ye be consumed in all their sins.
And he
warned the congregation, “Move away now from the tents of these wicked men. Do not touch anything that belongs to them, or you will be swept away because of all their sins.”
Let us pass, I pray thee, through thy country: we will not pass through the fields, or through the vineyards, neither will we drink of the water of the wells: we will go by the king’s high way, we will not turn to the right hand nor to the left, until we have passed thy borders.
Please let us pass through your land. We will not cut through any field or
vineyard, or drink water from any well. We will stay on the King’s
Highway; we will not turn to the right or to the left until we have passed through your territory.”
Therefore the people came to Moses, and said, We have
sinned, for we have spoken against the LORD, and against thee;
pray unto the LORD, that he take away the serpents from us. And Moses
prayed for the people.
Then the people came to Moses and said, “We have
sinned by speaking against the LORD and against you.
Intercede with the LORD so He will take the snakes away from us.” So Moses
interceded for the people.
Come now therefore, I
pray thee,
curse me this people; for they are too mighty for me:
peradventure I shall prevail, that we may
smite them, and that I may drive them out of the land: for I
wot that he whom thou blessest is blessed, and he whom thou cursest is
cursed.
So please come now and put a
curse on this people, because they are too mighty for me. Perhaps I may be able to defeat them and drive them out of the land; for I know that those you
bless are blessed, and those you
curse are
cursed.”
And they came to
Balaam, and said to him, Thus saith Balak the son of Zippor, Let nothing, I
pray thee, hinder thee from coming unto me:
They came to
Balaam and said, “This is what Balak son of Zippor says: ‘Please let nothing hinder you from coming to me,
For I will promote thee unto very great honour, and I will do
whatsoever thou sayest unto me: come therefore, I
pray thee,
curse me this people.
for I will honor you richly and do whatever you say. So please come and put a
curse on this people for me!’”
Now therefore, I
pray you,
tarry ye also here this night, that I may know what the LORD will say unto me more.
So now, please stay here overnight as the others did, that I may find out what else the LORD has to tell me.”
And Balak said unto him, Come, I
pray thee, with me unto another place, from whence thou mayest see them: thou shalt see but the utmost part of them, and shalt not see them all: and
curse me them from thence.
Then Balak said to him, “Please come with me to another place where you can see them. You will only see the outskirts of their camp—not all of them. And from there,
curse them for me.”
And Balak said unto
Balaam, Come, I
pray thee, I will bring thee unto another place;
peradventure it will please God that thou mayest
curse me them from thence.
“Please come,” said Balak, “I will take you to another place. Perhaps it will please God that you
curse them for me from there.”
I
pray thee, let me go over, and see the good land that is beyond Jordan, that goodly mountain, and
Lebanon.
Please let me cross over and see the good land beyond the Jordan—that pleasant hill country as well as
Lebanon!”
And the LORD was very
angry with Aaron to have destroyed him: and I
prayed for Aaron also the same time.
The LORD was
angry enough with Aaron to destroy him, but at that time I also
prayed for Aaron.
I prayed therefore unto the LORD, and said, O Lord GOD, destroy not thy people and thine inheritance, which thou hast redeemed through thy greatness, which thou hast brought forth out of Egypt with a mighty hand.
And I prayed to the LORD and said, “O Lord GOD, do not destroy Your people, Your inheritance, whom You redeemed through Your greatness and brought out of Egypt with a mighty hand.
Now therefore, I
pray you,
swear unto me by the LORD, since I have shewed you kindness, that ye will also
shew kindness unto my father’s house, and give me a true
token:
Now therefore, please
swear to me by the LORD that you will indeed show kindness to my family, because I showed kindness to you. Give me a sure sign
And Joshua said unto
Achan, My son, give, I
pray thee, glory to the LORD God of Israel, and make confession unto him; and tell me now what thou hast done; hide it not from me.

urge you to tell me what you have done; do not hide it from me.”
And the
spies saw a man come forth out of the city, and they said unto him,

shew thee mercy.

And he said unto her, Give me, I
pray thee, a little water to drink; for I am
thirsty. And she opened a
bottle of milk, and gave him drink, and covered him.

thirsty.” So she opened a container of milk, gave him a drink, and covered him again.
Depart not hence, I
pray thee, until I come unto thee, and bring forth my present, and set it before thee. And he said, I will
tarry until thou come again.
Please do not depart from this place until I return to You. Let me bring my offering and set it before You.” And the LORD said, “I will stay until you return.”
And
Gideon said unto God, Let not thine anger be hot against me, and I will speak but this once: let me prove, I
pray thee, but this once with the
fleece; let it now be dry only upon the
fleece, and upon all the ground let there be
dew.
Then
Gideon said to God, “Do not be
angry with me; let me speak one more time. Please allow me one more test with the
fleece. This time let it be dry, and the ground covered with
dew.”
And he said unto the men of Succoth, Give, I
pray you,
loaves of bread unto the people that follow me; for they be
faint, and I am pursuing after Zebah and Zalmunna, kings of
Midian.
So
Gideon said to the men of Succoth, “Please give my troops some bread, for they are exhausted, and I am still pursuing Zebah and Zalmunna, the kings of
Midian.”
Speak, I
pray you, in the ears of all the men of
Shechem, Whether is better for you, either that all the sons of Jerubbaal, which are
threescore and ten persons, reign over you, or that one reign over you? remember also that I am your bone and your flesh.
“Please ask all the leaders of
Shechem, ‘Is it better for you that seventy men, all the sons of Jerubbaal, rule over you, or just one man?’ Remember that I am your own flesh and blood.”
Then said Zebul unto him, Where is now thy mouth,
wherewith thou saidst, Who is
Abimelech, that we should serve him? is not this the people that thou hast
despised? go out, I
pray now, and fight with them.
“Where is your
gloating now?” Zebul replied. “You said, ‘Who is
Abimelech that we should serve him?’ Are these not the people you
ridiculed? Go out now and fight them!”
And the children of Israel said unto the LORD, We have
sinned: do thou unto us
whatsoever seemeth good unto thee; deliver us only, we
pray thee, this day.
“We have
sinned,” the Israelites said to the LORD. “Deal with us as You see fit; but please deliver us
today!”
Then Israel sent messengers unto the king of
Edom, saying, Let me, I
pray thee, pass through thy land: but the king of
Edom would not
hearken thereto. And in like manner they sent unto the king of Moab: but he would not consent: and Israel abode in Kadesh.
Then Israel sent messengers to the king of
Edom, saying, ‘Please let us pass through your land,’ but the king of
Edom would not
listen. They also sent messengers to the king of Moab, but he would not consent. So Israel stayed in Kadesh.
And Israel sent messengers unto Sihon king of the
Amorites, the king of
Heshbon; and Israel said unto him, Let us pass, we
pray thee, through thy land into my place.
And Israel sent messengers to Sihon king of the
Amorites, who ruled in
Heshbon, and said to him, ‘Please let us pass through your land into our own place.’
Now therefore
beware, I
pray thee, and drink not wine nor strong drink, and eat not any unclean thing:
Now please be careful not to drink wine or strong drink, and not to eat anything unclean.
Then
Manoah intreated the LORD, and said, O my Lord, let the man of God which thou
didst send come again unto us, and teach us what we shall do unto the child that shall be born.
Then
Manoah prayed to the LORD, “Please, O Lord, let the man of God You sent us come to us again to teach us how to raise the boy who is to be born.”
And
Manoah said unto the angel of the LORD, I
pray thee, let us
detain thee, until we shall have made ready a
kid for thee.
“Please stay here,”
Manoah said to the angel of the LORD, “and we will prepare a young goat for you.”
And her father said, I
verily thought that thou hadst utterly
hated her; therefore I gave her to thy companion: is not her younger sister fairer than she? take her, I
pray thee, instead of her.
“I was sure that you thoroughly
hated her,” said her father, “so I gave her to one of the men who accompanied you. Is not her younger sister more beautiful than she? Please take her instead.”
So
Delilah said to
Samson, “Please tell me the source of your great strength and how you can be
tied up and subdued.”
And
Samson called unto the LORD, and said, O Lord GOD, remember me, I
pray thee, and
strengthen me, I
pray thee, only this once, O God, that I may be at once
avenged of the Philistines for my two eyes.
Then
Samson called out to the LORD: “O Lord GOD, please remember me.
Strengthen me, O God, just once more, so that with one
vengeful blow I may pay back the Philistines for my two eyes.”
