And Pharaoh said, Who is the LORD, that I should obey his voice to let Israel go? I know not the LORD, neither will I let Israel go.
But Pharaoh replied, “Who is the LORD that I should obey His voice and let Israel go? I do not know the LORD, and I will not let Israel go.”
But he said, Ye are idle, ye are idle: therefore ye say, Let us go and do sacrifice to the LORD.
“You are slackers!” Pharaoh replied. “Slackers! That is why you keep saying, ‘Let us go and sacrifice to the LORD.’
And Moses spake before the LORD, saying, Behold, the children of Israel have not
hearkened unto me; how then shall Pharaoh hear me, who am of
uncircumcised lips?
But in the LORD’s presence Moses
replied, “If the Israelites will not
listen to me, then why would Pharaoh
listen to me, since I am unskilled in speech?”
And Moses said before the LORD, Behold, I am of
uncircumcised lips, and how shall Pharaoh
hearken unto me?
But in the LORD’s presence Moses
replied, “Since I am unskilled in speech, why would Pharaoh
listen to me?”
And he said, To
morrow. And he said, Be it according to thy word: that thou mayest know that there is none like unto the LORD our God.
“
Tomorrow,” Pharaoh answered. “May it be as you say,” Moses
replied, “so that you may know that there is no one like the LORD our God.
And Moses said, It is not meet so to do; for we shall sacrifice the
abomination of the Egyptians to the LORD our God: lo, shall we sacrifice the
abomination of the Egyptians before their eyes, and will they not stone us?
But Moses
replied, “It would not be right to do that, because the sacrifices we offer to the LORD our God would be
detestable to the Egyptians. If we offer sacrifices that are
detestable before the Egyptians, will they not stone us?
And Moses said, We will go with our young and with our old, with our sons and with our daughters, with our flocks and with our herds will we go; for we must hold a feast unto the LORD.
“We will go with our young and old,” Moses replied. “We will go with our sons and daughters, and with our flocks and herds, for we must hold a feast to the LORD.”
And Moses said, Thou must give us also sacrifices and burnt offerings, that we may sacrifice unto the LORD our God.
But Moses replied, “You must also provide us with sacrifices and burnt offerings to present to the LORD our God.
And Moses said, Thou hast spoken well, I will see thy face again no more.
“As you say,” Moses replied, “I will never see your face again.”
That ye shall say, It is the sacrifice of the LORD’S
passover, who passed over the houses of the children of Israel in Egypt, when he
smote the Egyptians, and delivered our houses. And the people bowed the head and worshipped.
you are to
reply, ‘It is the
Passover sacrifice to the LORD, who passed over the houses of the Israelites in Egypt when He struck down the Egyptians and
spared our homes.’” Then the people bowed down and worshiped.
And it came to pass, when Pharaoh had let the people go, that God led them not through the way of the land of the Philistines, although that was near; for God said, Lest
peradventure the people
repent when they see war, and they return to Egypt:
When Pharaoh let the people go, God did not lead them along the road through the land of the Philistines, though it was shorter. For God said, “If the people face war, they might change their minds and return to Egypt.”
And it came to pass, that on the sixth day they gathered twice as much bread, two omers for one man: and all the rulers of the congregation came and told Moses.
On the sixth day, they gathered twice as much food—two omers per person—and all the leaders of the congregation came and reported this to Moses.
And all the congregation of the children of Israel journeyed from the wilderness of Sin, after their journeys, according to the commandment of the LORD, and pitched in
Rephidim: and there was no water for the people to drink.
Then the whole congregation of Israel left the Desert of Sin, moving from place to place as the LORD commanded. They camped at
Rephidim, but there was no water for the people to drink.
Wherefore the people did
chide with Moses, and said, Give us water that we may drink. And Moses said unto them, Why
chide ye with me? wherefore do ye
tempt the LORD?
So the people
contended with Moses, “Give us water to drink.” “Why do you
contend with me?” Moses
replied. “Why do you test the LORD?”
Then came Amalek, and fought with Israel in
Rephidim.
And Moses said unto his father in law, Because the people come unto me to
enquire of God:
“Because the people come to me to inquire of God,” Moses replied.
Hearken now unto my voice, I will give thee counsel, and God shall be with thee: Be thou for the people to God-ward, that thou mayest bring the causes unto God:
Now
listen to me; I will give you some advice, and may God be with you. You must be the people’s
representative before God and bring their causes to Him.
For they were departed from
Rephidim, and were come to the desert of
Sinai, and had pitched in the wilderness; and there Israel camped before the mount.
After they had set out from
Rephidim, they entered the Wilderness of
Sinai, and Israel camped there in front of the mountain.
And the LORD said unto him, Away, get thee down, and thou shalt come up, thou, and Aaron with thee: but let not the priests and the people break through to come up unto the LORD, lest he break forth upon them.
And the LORD replied, “Go down and bring Aaron with you. But the priests and the people must not break through to come up to the LORD, or He will break out against them.”
And Moses said unto the people, Fear not: for God is come to prove you, and that his fear may be before your faces, that ye sin not.
“Do not be afraid,” Moses
replied. “For God has come to test you, so that the fear of Him may be before you, to keep you from
sinning.”
If a man shall
steal an ox, or a sheep, and kill it, or sell it; he shall restore five oxen for an ox, and four sheep for a sheep.
“If a man steals an ox or a sheep and slaughters or sells it, he must repay five oxen for an ox and four sheep for a sheep.
Thou shalt not raise a false report: put not thine hand with the wicked to be an unrighteous witness.
“You shall not spread a false
report. Do not join the wicked by being a
malicious witness.
And he took the book of the covenant, and read in the
audience of the people: and they said, All that the LORD hath said will we do, and be
obedient.
Then he took the Book of the Covenant and read it to the people, who
replied, “All that the LORD has spoken we will do, and we will be
obedient.”
Wherefore should the Egyptians speak, and say, For mischief did he bring them out, to
slay them in the mountains, and to
consume them from the face of the earth? Turn from thy fierce wrath, and
repent of this evil against thy people.
Why should the Egyptians declare, ‘He brought them out with evil intent, to kill them in the mountains and
wipe them from the face of the earth’? Turn from Your fierce anger and relent from doing
harm to Your people.
And the LORD
repented of the evil which he thought to do unto his people.
So the LORD relented from the
calamity He had threatened to bring on His people.
And he said, It is not the voice of them that
shout for
mastery, neither is it the voice of them that cry for being overcome: but the noise of them that sing do I hear.
But Moses replied: “It is neither the cry of victory nor the cry of defeat; I hear the sound of singing!”
And Aaron said, Let not the anger of my lord wax hot: thou knowest the people, that they are set on mischief.
“Do not be
enraged, my lord,” Aaron
replied. “You
yourself know that the people are intent on evil.
And the LORD said unto Moses,
Whosoever hath
sinned against me, him will I
blot out of my book.
The LORD
replied to Moses, “
Whoever has
sinned against Me, I will
blot out of My book.
And he said unto him, If thy presence go not with me, carry us not up hence.
“If Your Presence does not go with us,” Moses replied, “do not lead us up from here.
And he said, I will make all my goodness pass before thee, and I will
proclaim the name of the LORD before thee; and will be
gracious to whom I will be
gracious, and will
shew mercy on whom I will
shew mercy.
“I will cause all My goodness to pass before you,” the LORD
replied, “and I will
proclaim My name—the LORD—in your presence. I will have mercy on whom I have mercy, and I will have
compassion on whom I have
compassion.”
And Aaron said unto Moses, Behold, this day have they offered their sin offering and their burnt offering before the LORD; and such things have
befallen me: and if I had eaten the sin offering to day, should it have been accepted in the sight of the LORD?
But Aaron
replied to Moses, “Behold, this very day they presented their sin offering and their burnt offering before the LORD. Since these things have happened to me, if I had eaten the sin offering
today, would it have been acceptable in the sight of the LORD?”
And they shall take other stones, and put them in the place of those stones; and he shall take other
morter, and shall
plaister the house.
So different stones must be obtained to
replace the
contaminated ones, as well as additional mortar to
replaster the house.
And if the plague come again, and break out in the house, after that he hath taken away the stones, and after he hath
scraped the house, and after it is plaistered;
If the
mildew reappears in the house after the stones have been
torn out and the house has been
scraped and
replastered,
And if the priest shall come in, and look upon it, and, behold, the plague hath not spread in the house, after the house was plaistered: then the priest shall
pronounce the house clean, because the plague is
healed.
If, however, the priest comes and inspects it, and the
mildew has not spread after the house has been
replastered, he shall
pronounce the house clean, because the
mildew is gone.
Then let him count the years of the sale thereof, and restore the
overplus unto the man to whom he sold it; that he may return unto his possession.
he shall
calculate the years since its sale,
repay the balance to the man to whom he sold it, and return to his property.
But if he be not able to restore it to him, then that which is sold shall remain in the hand of him that hath bought it until the year of jubile: and in the jubile it shall go out, and he shall return unto his possession.
But if he cannot obtain enough to
repay him, what he sold will remain in possession of the
buyer until the Year of
Jubilee. In the
Jubilee, however, it is to be released, so that he may return to his property.
He shall not alter it, nor change it, a good for a bad, or a bad for a good: and if he shall at all change beast for beast, then it and the exchange thereof shall be holy.
He must not replace it or exchange it, either good for bad or bad for good. But if he does substitute one animal for another, both that animal and its substitute will be holy.
These are those that were numbered, which Moses and Aaron numbered, and the princes of Israel, being twelve men: each one was for the house of his fathers.
These were the men numbered by Moses and Aaron, with the assistance of the twelve leaders of Israel, each one representing his family.
And Moses said unto them, Stand still, and I will hear what the LORD will command concerning you.
“Wait here until I find out what the LORD commands concerning you,” Moses replied.
And he said unto him, I will not go; but I will depart to mine own land, and to my kindred.
“I will not go,” Hobab replied. “Instead, I am going back to my own land and my own people.”
And Moses said, The people, among whom I am, are six hundred thousand
footmen; and thou hast said, I will give them flesh, that they may eat a whole month.
But Moses replied, “Here I am among 600,000 men on foot, yet You say, ‘I will give them meat, and they will eat for a month.’
And there ran a young man, and told Moses, and said,
Eldad and Medad do
prophesy in the camp.
A young man ran and
reported to Moses, “
Eldad and Medad are
prophesying in the camp.”
And Moses said unto him, Enviest thou for my sake? would God that all the LORD’S people were prophets, and that the LORD would put his spirit upon them!
But Moses
replied, “Are you
jealous on my account? I wish that all the LORD’s people were prophets and that the LORD would place His Spirit on them!”
And they went and came to Moses, and to Aaron, and to all the congregation of the children of Israel, unto the wilderness of
Paran, to Kadesh; and brought back word unto them, and unto all the congregation, and shewed them the fruit of the land.
and they went back to Moses, Aaron, and the whole congregation of Israel in the Wilderness of
Paran at Kadesh. They brought back a
report for the whole congregation and showed them the fruit of the land.
But the men that went up with him said, We be not able to go up against the people; for they are stronger than we.
But the men who had gone up with him replied, “We cannot go up against the people, for they are stronger than we are!”
And they brought up an evil
report of the land which they had searched unto the children of Israel, saying, The land, through which we have gone to search it, is a land that eateth up the inhabitants thereof; and all the people that we saw in it are men of a great
stature.
So they gave the Israelites a bad
report about the land that they had
spied out: “The land we
explored devours its inhabitants, and all the people we saw there are great in
stature.
And the LORD said, I have
pardoned according to thy word:
“I have
pardoned them as you requested,” the LORD
replied.
And the men, which Moses sent to search the land, who returned, and made all the congregation to
murmur against him, by bringing up a
slander upon the land,
So the men Moses had sent to
spy out the land, who had returned and made the whole congregation
grumble against him by bringing out a bad
report about the land—
Even those men that did bring up the evil report upon the land, died by the plague before the LORD.
those men who had brought out the bad report about the land—were struck down by a plague before the LORD.
But the soul that doeth ought
presumptuously, whether he be born in the land, or a stranger, the same
reproacheth the LORD; and that soul shall be cut off from among his people.
But the person who sins defiantly, whether a native or foreigner, blasphemes the LORD. That person shall be cut off from among his people.
And they rose up before Moses, with certain of the children of Israel, two hundred and fifty princes of the assembly, famous in the congregation, men of
renown:
a rebellion against Moses, along with 250 men of Israel
renowned as leaders of the congregation and
representatives in the assembly.
And it came to pass, that on the
morrow Moses went into the tabernacle of witness; and, behold, the rod of Aaron for the house of Levi was
budded, and brought forth buds, and
bloomed blossoms, and yielded almonds.
The next day Moses entered the Tent of the Testimony and saw that Aaron’s staff,
representing the house of Levi, had
sprouted, put forth buds,
blossomed, and produced almonds.
And the children of Israel said unto him, We will go by the high way: and if I and my cattle drink of thy water, then I will pay for it: I will only, without doing any thing else, go through on my feet.
“We will stay on the main road,” the Israelites replied, “and if we or our herds drink your water, we will pay for it. There will be no problem; only let us pass through on foot.”
And he said unto them,
Lodge here this night, and I will bring you word again, as the LORD shall speak unto me: and the princes of Moab abode with
Balaam.
“
Spend the night here,”
Balaam replied, “and I will give you the answer that the LORD speaks to me.” So the princes of Moab stayed with
Balaam.
And
Balaam answered and said unto the servants of Balak, If Balak would give me his house full of silver and gold, I cannot go beyond the word of the LORD my God, to do less or more.
But
Balaam replied to the servants of Balak, “If Balak were to give me his house full of silver and gold, I could not do anything small or great to go beyond the command of the LORD my God.
And the
ass said unto
Balaam, Am not I thine
ass, upon which thou hast
ridden ever since I was thine unto this day? was I ever
wont to do so unto thee? And he said,
Nay.
But the
donkey said to
Balaam, “Am I not the
donkey you have
ridden all your life until
today? Have I ever treated you this way before?” “No,” he
replied.
And
Balaam said unto Balak, Lo, I am come unto thee: have I now any power at all to say any thing? the word that God putteth in my mouth, that shall I speak.
“See, I have come to you,”
Balaam replied, “but can I say just anything? I must speak only the word that God puts in my mouth.”
And he answered and said, Must I not take
heed to speak that which the LORD hath put in my mouth?
But
Balaam replied, “Should I not speak exactly what the LORD puts in my mouth?”
God is not a man, that he should lie; neither the son of man, that he should
repent: hath he said, and shall he not do it? or hath he spoken, and shall he not make it good?
God is not a man, that He should lie, or a son of man, that He should change His mind. Does He speak and not act? Does He promise and not
fulfill?
But
Balaam answered and said unto Balak, Told not I thee, saying, All that the LORD speaketh, that I must do?
But
Balaam replied, “Did I not tell you that whatever the LORD says, I must do?”
And the LORD said unto Moses, Take thee Joshua the son of
Nun, a man in whom is the spirit, and lay thine hand upon him;
And the LORD
replied to Moses, “Take Joshua son of
Nun, a man with the Spirit in him, and lay your hands on him.
And Moses said unto them, If ye will do this thing, if ye will go armed before the LORD to war,
Moses
replied, “If you will do this—if you will arm
yourselves before the LORD for battle,
And the children of
Gad and the children of
Reuben answered, saying, As the LORD hath said unto thy servants, so will we do.
The Gadites and Reubenites replied, “As the LORD has spoken to your servants, so we will do.
And they removed from Alush, and
encamped at
Rephidim, where was no water for the people to drink.
They set out from Alush and camped at
Rephidim, where there was no water for the people to drink.
And they departed from
Rephidim, and pitched in the wilderness of
Sinai.
They set out from
Rephidim and camped in the Wilderness of
Sinai.
Then ye answered and said unto me, We have
sinned against the LORD, we will go up and fight, according to all that the LORD our God commanded us. And when ye had
girded on every man his weapons of war, ye were ready to go up into the hill.
“We have
sinned against the LORD,” you
replied. “We will go up and fight, as the LORD our God has commanded us.” Then each of you put on his weapons of war, thinking it easy to go up into the hill country.
Which also were accounted giants, as the Anakims; but the Moabites call them
Emims.
Like the Anakites, they were also regarded as
Rephaim, though the Moabites called them Emites.
(That also was accounted a land of giants: giants dwelt therein in old time; and the
Ammonites call them Zamzummims;
(That too was regarded as the land of the
Rephaim, who used to live there, though the
Ammonites called them Zamzummites.
This day will I begin to put the
dread of thee and the fear of thee upon the nations that are under the whole heaven, who shall hear
report of thee, and shall
tremble, and be in
anguish because of thee.
This very day I will begin to put the
dread and fear of you upon all the nations under heaven. They will hear the
reports of you and
tremble in
anguish because of you.”
For only
Og king of
Bashan remained of the
remnant of giants; behold, his
bedstead was a
bedstead of iron; is it not in
Rabbath of the children of
Ammon? nine cubits was the length thereof, and four cubits the breadth of it, after the
cubit of a man.
(For only
Og king of
Bashan had remained of the
remnant of the
Rephaim. His bed of iron, nine cubits long and four cubits wide, is still in Rabbah of the
Ammonites.)
And the rest of
Gilead, and all
Bashan, being the kingdom of
Og, gave I unto the half tribe of
Manasseh; all the region of
Argob, with all
Bashan, which was called the land of giants.
For ask now of the days that are past, which were before thee, since the day that God created man upon the earth, and ask from the one side of heaven unto the other, whether there hath been any such thing as this great thing is, or hath been heard like it?
Indeed, ask now from one end of the heavens to the other about the days that long preceded you, from the day that God created man on earth: Has anything as great as this ever happened or been reported?
And
repayeth them that
hate him to their face, to destroy them: he will not be
slack to him that hateth him, he will
repay him to his face.
But those who
hate Him He
repays to their faces with destruction; He will not
hesitate to
repay to his face the one who hates Him.
And it be told thee, and thou hast heard of it, and enquired
diligently, and, behold, it be true, and the thing certain, that such
abomination is wrought in Israel:
and if it is
reported and you hear about it, you must
investigate it thoroughly. If the
report is true and such an
abomination has happened in Israel,
The LORD shall send upon thee
cursing,
vexation, and
rebuke, in all that thou settest thine hand unto for to do, until thou be destroyed, and until thou perish quickly; because of the wickedness of thy doings, whereby thou hast
forsaken me.
The LORD will send curses upon you, confusion and
reproof in all to which you put your hand, until you are destroyed and quickly perish because of the wickedness you have committed in
forsaking Him.
And among these nations shalt thou find no ease, neither shall the sole of thy foot have rest: but the LORD shall give thee there a
trembling heart, and failing of eyes, and sorrow of mind:
Among those nations you will find no
repose, not even a resting place for the sole of your foot. There the LORD will give you a
trembling heart, failing eyes, and a
despairing soul.
Do ye thus requite the LORD, O
foolish people and unwise? is not he thy father that hath bought thee? hath he not made thee, and established thee?
Is this how you
repay the LORD, O
foolish and senseless people? Is He not your Father and
Creator? Has He not made you and established you?
To me belongeth
vengeance, and recompence; their foot shall slide in due time: for the day of their
calamity is at hand, and the things that shall come upon them make
haste.
Vengeance is Mine; I will
repay. In due time their foot will slip; for their day of
disaster is near, and their
doom is coming quickly.”
For the LORD shall judge his people, and
repent himself for his servants, when he
seeth that their power is gone, and there is none shut up, or left.
For the LORD will
vindicate His people and have
compassion on His servants when He sees that their strength is gone and no one remains, slave or free.
If I
whet my
glittering sword, and mine hand take hold on judgment; I will render
vengeance to mine enemies, and will reward them that
hate me.
Rejoice, O heavens, with Him, and let all God’s angels worship Him.
Rejoice, O nations, with His people; for He will
avenge the blood of His children. He will take
vengeance on His
adversaries and
repay those who
hate Him; He will
cleanse His land and His people.
And it was told the king of
Jericho, saying, Behold, there came men in
hither to night of the children of Israel to search out the country.
And it was
reported to the king of
Jericho: “Behold, some men of Israel have come here
tonight to
spy out the land.”
And the men answered her, Our life for yours, if ye utter not this our business. And it shall be, when the LORD hath given us the land, that we will deal kindly and truly with thee.
“Our lives for your lives!” the men agreed. “If you do not report our mission, we will show you kindness and faithfulness when the LORD gives us the land.”
And if thou utter this our business, then we will be
quit of thine oath which thou hast made us to
swear.
And if you
report our mission, we will be released from the oath you made us
swear.”
And she said, According unto your words, so be it. And she sent them away, and they departed: and she bound the scarlet line in the window.
“Let it be as you say,” she
replied, and she sent them away. And when they had gone, she
tied the scarlet cord in the window.
So the two men returned, and descended from the mountain, and passed over, and came to Joshua the son of
Nun, and told him all things that
befell them:
Then the two men started back, came down from the hill country, and crossed the river. So they came to Joshua son of
Nun and
reported all that had happened to them.
And the LORD said unto Joshua, This day have I rolled away the
reproach of Egypt from off you. Wherefore the name of the place is called
Gilgal unto this day.
Then the LORD said to Joshua, “
Today I have rolled away the
reproach of Egypt from you.” So that place has been called
Gilgal to this day.
And he said,
Nay; but as captain of the host of the LORD am I now come. And Joshua fell on his face to the earth, and did worship, and said unto him, What saith my lord unto his servant?
“Neither,” He replied. “I have now come as Commander of the LORD’s army.” Then Joshua fell facedown in reverence and asked Him, “What does my Lord have to say to His servant?”
And the captain of the LORD’S host said unto Joshua, Loose thy
shoe from off thy foot; for the place
whereon thou standest is holy. And Joshua did so.
The Commander of the LORD’s army
replied, “Take off your
sandals, for the place where you are standing is holy.” And Joshua did so.
And they returned to Joshua, and said unto him, Let not all the people go up; but let about two or three thousand men go up and
smite Ai; and make not all the people to labour thither; for they are but few.
On returning to Joshua, they
reported, “There is no need to send all the people; two or three thousand men are enough to go up and attack
Ai. Since the people of
Ai are so few, you need not wear out all our people there.”
And
Achan answered Joshua, and said, Indeed I have
sinned against the LORD God of Israel, and thus and thus have I done:
“It is true,”
Achan replied, “I have
sinned against the LORD, the God of Israel. This is what I did:
And they said unto him, From a very far country thy servants are come because of the name of the LORD thy God: for we have heard the fame of him, and all that he did in Egypt,
“Your servants have come from a very distant land,” they replied, “because of the fame of the LORD your God. For we have heard the reports about Him: all that He did in Egypt,
All the kingdom of
Og in
Bashan, which reigned in
Ashtaroth and in Edrei, who remained of the
remnant of the giants: for these did Moses
smite, and cast them out.
the whole kingdom of
Og in
Bashan, who had reigned in
Ashtaroth and Edrei and had remained as a
remnant of the
Rephaim. Moses had struck them down and dispossessed them,
Forty years old was I when Moses the servant of the LORD sent me from Kadesh-barnea to
espy out the land; and I brought him word again as it was in mine heart.
I was forty years old when Moses the servant of the LORD sent me from Kadesh-barnea to
spy out the land, and I brought back to him an
honest report.
And the border went up by the valley of the son of
Hinnom unto the south side of the Jebusite; the same is Jerusalem: and the border went up to the top of the mountain that lieth before the valley of
Hinnom westward, which is at the end of the valley of the giants northward:
From there the border went up the Valley of
Hinnom along the southern slope of the Jebusites (that is, Jerusalem) and ascended to the top of the hill that faces the Valley of
Hinnom on the west, at the northern end of the Valley of
Rephaim.
And Joshua answered them, If thou be a great people, then get thee up to the wood country, and cut down for
thyself there in the land of the
Perizzites and of the giants, if mount Ephraim be too narrow for thee.
Joshua answered them, “If you have so many people that the hill country of Ephraim is too small for you, go to the forest and clear for
yourself an area in the land of the
Perizzites and the
Rephaim.”
And the children of Joseph said, The hill is not enough for us: and all the
Canaanites that dwell in the land of the valley have
chariots of iron, both they who are of Beth-shean and her towns, and they who are of the valley of
Jezreel.
“The hill country is not enough for us,” they
replied, “and all the
Canaanites who live in the valley have iron
chariots, both in Beth-shean with its towns and in the Valley of
Jezreel.”
And the border came down to the end of the mountain that lieth before the valley of the son of
Hinnom, and which is in the valley of the giants on the north, and descended to the valley of
Hinnom, to the side of Jebusi on the south, and descended to En-rogel,
Then it went down to the foot of the hill that faces the Valley of
Hinnom at the northern end of the Valley of
Rephaim and ran down the Valley of
Hinnom toward the southern slope of the Jebusites and
downward to En-rogel.
And the children of Israel heard say, Behold, the children of
Reuben and the children of
Gad and the half tribe of
Manasseh have built an altar over against the land of
Canaan, in the borders of Jordan, at the passage of the children of Israel.
Then the Israelites received the
report: “Behold, the Reubenites, the Gadites, and the half-tribe of
Manasseh have built an altar on the border of the land of
Canaan, at Geliloth near the Jordan on the
Israelite side.”
