Then Jeremiah said unto all the people, to the men, and to the women, and to all the people which had given him that answer, saying,
Then Jeremiah said to all the people, both men and women, who were answering him,
Thus saith the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel,
saying; Ye and your wives have both spoken with your mouths, and fulfilled with your hand,
saying, We will surely perform our vows that we have
vowed, to burn incense to the queen of heaven, and to pour out drink offerings unto her: ye will surely
accomplish your vows, and surely perform your vows.
This is what the LORD of Hosts, the God of Israel,
says: As for you and your wives, you have spoken with your mouths and fulfilled with your hands your words: ‘We will surely perform our vows that we have made to burn incense to the Queen of Heaven and to pour out drink offerings to her.’ Go
ahead, then, do what you have promised! Keep your vows!
Therefore hear ye the word of the LORD, all Judah that dwell in the land of Egypt; Behold, I have
sworn by my great name, saith the LORD, that my name shall no more be named in the mouth of any man of Judah in all the land of Egypt,
saying, The Lord GOD liveth.
Nevertheless, hear the word of the LORD, all you people of Judah living in Egypt: Behold, I have
sworn by My great name,
says the LORD, that never again will any man of Judah living in the land of Egypt
invoke My name or
say, ‘As surely as the Lord GOD lives.’
Thus saith the LORD; Behold, I will give Pharaoh-hophra king of Egypt into the hand of his enemies, and into the hand of them that seek his life; as I gave
Zedekiah king of Judah into the hand of Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon, his enemy, and that sought his life.
This is what the LORD
says: Behold, I will deliver Pharaoh Hophra king of Egypt into the hands of his enemies who seek his life, just as I delivered
Zedekiah king of Judah into the hand of
Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon, the enemy who was seeking his life.”
The word that Jeremiah the prophet spake unto
Baruch the son of Neriah, when he had written these words in a book at the mouth of Jeremiah, in the fourth year of
Jehoiakim the son of
Josiah king of Judah,
saying,
This is the word that Jeremiah the prophet spoke to
Baruch son of Neriah when he wrote these words on a
scroll at the
dictation of Jeremiah in the fourth year of
Jehoiakim son of
Josiah, king of Judah:
Thus saith the LORD, the God of Israel, unto thee, O
Baruch;
“This is what the LORD, the God of Israel,
says to you,
Baruch:
Thou
didst say,
Woe is me now! for the LORD hath added grief to my sorrow; I
fainted in my
sighing, and I find no rest.
You have said, ‘
Woe is me because the LORD has added sorrow to my pain! I am worn out with
groaning and have found no rest.’”
Thus shalt thou
say unto him, The LORD saith thus; Behold, that which I have built will I break down, and that which I have planted I will
pluck up, even this whole land.
Thus Jeremiah was to
say to
Baruch: “This is what the LORD
says: Throughout the land I will
demolish what I have built and
uproot what I have planted.
Declare ye in Egypt, and
publish in
Migdol, and
publish in
Noph and in Tahpanhes:
say ye, Stand fast, and prepare thee; for the sword shall
devour round about thee.
He made many to fall,
yea, one fell upon another: and they said, Arise, and let us go again to our own people, and to the land of our
nativity, from the
oppressing sword.
They continue to
stumble; indeed, they have fallen over one another. They
say, ‘Get up! Let us return to our people and to the land of our birth, away from the sword of the
oppressor.’
The LORD of hosts, the God of Israel, saith; Behold, I will
punish the multitude of No, and Pharaoh, and Egypt, with their gods, and their kings; even Pharaoh, and all them that trust in him:
The LORD of Hosts, the God of Israel,
says: “Behold, I am about to
punish Amon god of
Thebes, along with Pharaoh, Egypt with her gods and kings, and those who trust in Pharaoh.
Thus saith the LORD; Behold, waters rise up out of the north, and shall be an overflowing flood, and shall overflow the land, and all that is therein; the city, and them that dwell therein: then the men shall cry, and all the inhabitants of the land shall
howl.
This is what the LORD
says: “See how the waters are rising from the north and becoming an overflowing
torrent. They will overflow the land and its fullness, the cities and their inhabitants. The people will cry out, and all who dwell in the land will
wail Against Moab thus saith the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel;
Woe unto
Nebo! for it is
spoiled: Kiriathaim is confounded and taken: Misgab is confounded and dismayed.
Concerning Moab, this is what the LORD of Hosts, the God of Israel,
says: “
Woe to
Nebo, for it will be
devastated. Kiriathaim will be captured and disgraced; the fortress will be
shattered and
dismantled.
How say ye, We are mighty and strong men for the war?
How can you say, ‘We are warriors, mighty men ready for battle’?
All ye that are about him,
bemoan him; and all ye that know his name,
say, How is the strong staff broken, and the beautiful rod!
O inhabitant of Aroer, stand by the way, and
espy; ask him that fleeth, and her that escapeth, and
say, What is done?
Stand by the road and watch, O dweller of Aroer! Ask the man
fleeing or the woman escaping, ‘What has happened?’
They shall
howl,
saying, How is it broken down! how hath Moab turned the back with shame! so shall Moab be a
derision and a dismaying to all them about him.
“How
shattered it is! How they
wail! How Moab has turned his back in shame! Moab has become an object of
ridicule and
horror to all those around him.”
For thus saith the LORD; Behold, he shall fly as an eagle, and shall spread his wings over Moab.
For this is what the LORD says: “Behold, an eagle swoops down and spreads his wings against Moab.
Concerning the
Ammonites, thus saith the LORD; Hath Israel no sons? hath he no heir? why then
doth their king
inherit Gad, and his people dwell in his cities?
Concerning the
Ammonites, this is what the LORD
says: “Has Israel no sons? Is he without heir? Why then has Milcom taken possession of
Gad? Why have his people settled in their cities?
Therefore, behold, the days come, saith the LORD, that I will cause an
alarm of war to be heard in Rabbah of the
Ammonites; and it shall be a
desolate heap, and her daughters shall be burned with fire: then shall Israel be heir unto them that were his heirs, saith the LORD.
Therefore, behold, the days are coming, declares the LORD, when I will sound the battle cry against Rabbah of the
Ammonites. It will become a
heap of ruins, and its villages will be burned. Then Israel will drive out their dispossessors,
says the LORD.
Wherefore gloriest thou in the valleys, thy flowing valley, O
backsliding daughter? that trusted in her treasures,
saying, Who shall come unto me?
Why do you
boast of your valleys— your valleys so fruitful, O faithless daughter? You trust in your riches and
say, ‘Who can come against me?’
Concerning
Edom, thus saith the LORD of hosts; Is wisdom no more in Teman? is counsel perished from the
prudent? is their wisdom
vanished?
Concerning
Edom, this is what the LORD of Hosts
says: “Is there no longer wisdom in Teman? Has counsel perished from the
prudent? Has their wisdom decayed?
For thus saith the LORD; Behold, they whose judgment was not to drink of the cup have
assuredly drunken; and art thou he that shall altogether go unpunished? thou shalt not go unpunished, but thou shalt surely drink of it.
For this is what the LORD says: “If those who do not deserve to drink the cup must drink it, can you possibly remain unpunished? You will not go unpunished, for you must drink it too.
I have heard a rumour from the LORD, and an ambassador is sent unto the heathen, saying, Gather ye together, and come against her, and rise up to the battle.
I have heard a message from the LORD; an
envoy has been sent to the nations: “
Assemble yourselves to march against her! Rise up for battle!”
As in the overthrow of
Sodom and
Gomorrah and the neighbour cities thereof, saith the LORD, no man shall
abide there, neither shall a son of man dwell in it.
As
Sodom and
Gomorrah were overthrown along with their neighbors,”
says the LORD, “no one will dwell there; no man will
abide there.
Concerning
Kedar, and concerning the kingdoms of Hazor, which Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon shall
smite, thus saith the LORD; Arise ye, go up to
Kedar, and
spoil the men of the east.
Concerning
Kedar and the kingdoms of Hazor, which
Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon defeated, this is what the LORD
says: “Rise up, advance against
Kedar, and destroy the people of the east!
The word of the LORD that came to Jeremiah the prophet against
Elam in the beginning of the reign of
Zedekiah king of Judah,
saying,
This is the word of the LORD that came to Jeremiah the prophet concerning
Elam at the beginning of the reign of
Zedekiah king of Judah.
Thus saith the LORD of hosts; Behold, I will break the bow of
Elam, the chief of their might.
This is what the LORD of Hosts
says: “Behold, I will
shatter Elam’s bow, the
mainstay of their might.
Declare ye among the nations, and
publish, and set up a standard;
publish, and
conceal not:
say, Babylon is taken,
Bel is confounded, Merodach is broken in pieces; her idols are confounded, her images are broken in pieces.
“
Announce and declare to the nations; lift up a
banner and
proclaim it; hold nothing back when you
say, ‘Babylon is captured;
Bel is put to shame; Marduk is
shattered, her images are disgraced, her idols are broken in pieces.’
They shall ask the way to
Zion with their faces
thitherward,
saying, Come, and let us join ourselves to the LORD in a perpetual covenant that shall not be forgotten.
They will ask the way to
Zion and turn their faces toward it. They will come and join themselves to the LORD in an
everlasting covenant that will never be forgotten.
Therefore thus saith the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel; Behold, I will
punish the king of Babylon and his land, as I have punished the king of Assyria.
Therefore this is what the LORD of Hosts, the God of Israel,
says: “I will
punish the king of Babylon and his land as I punished the king of Assyria.
Thus saith the LORD of hosts; The children of Israel and the children of Judah were
oppressed together: and all that took them
captives held them fast; they refused to let them go.
This is what the LORD of Hosts
says: “The sons of Israel are
oppressed, and the sons of Judah as well. All their captors hold them fast, refusing to release them.
Thus saith the LORD; Behold, I will raise up against Babylon, and against them that dwell in the midst of them that rise up against me, a destroying wind;
This is what the LORD
says: “Behold, I will
stir up against Babylon and against the people of Leb-kamai the spirit of a destroyer.
The LORD of hosts hath
sworn by himself,
saying, Surely I will fill thee with men, as with caterpillers; and they shall lift up a
shout against thee.
The LORD of Hosts has
sworn by Himself: “Surely I will fill you up with men as with locusts, and they will
shout in triumph over you.”
For thus saith the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel; The daughter of Babylon is like a threshingfloor, it is time to
thresh her: yet a little while, and the time of her harvest shall come.
For this is what the LORD of Hosts, the God of Israel,
says: “The Daughter of Babylon is like a
threshing floor at the time it is
trampled. In just a little while her harvest time will come.”
The violence done to me and to my flesh be upon Babylon, shall the inhabitant of
Zion say; and my blood upon the inhabitants of
Chaldea, shall Jerusalem
say.
May the violence done to me and to my flesh be upon Babylon,”
says the dweller of
Zion. “May my blood be on the dwellers of
Chaldea,”
says Jerusalem.
Therefore thus saith the LORD; Behold, I will
plead thy cause, and take
vengeance for thee; and I will dry up her sea, and make her springs dry.
Therefore this is what the LORD
says: “Behold, I will
plead your case and take
vengeance on your behalf; I will dry up her sea and make her springs run dry.
Thus saith the LORD of hosts; The broad walls of Babylon shall be utterly broken, and her high gates shall be burned with fire; and the people shall labour in vain, and the
folk in the fire, and they shall be
weary.
This is what the LORD of Hosts
says: “Babylon’s thick walls will be leveled, and her high gates consumed by fire. So the labor of the people will be for nothing; the nations will
exhaust themselves to fuel the flames.”
Then shalt thou
say, O LORD, thou hast spoken against this place, to cut it off, that none shall remain in it, neither man nor beast, but that it shall be
desolate for ever.
and
say, ‘O LORD, You have promised to cut off this place so that no one will remain—neither man nor beast. Indeed, it will be
desolate forever.’
And thou shalt
say, Thus shall Babylon sink, and shall not rise from the evil that I will bring upon her: and they shall be
weary. Thus far are the words of Jeremiah.
Then you are to
say, ‘In the same way Babylon will sink and never rise again, because of the
disaster I will bring upon her. And her people will grow
weary.’” Here end the words of Jeremiah.
They
say to their mothers, Where is corn and wine? when they
swooned as the wounded in the streets of the city, when their soul was poured out into their mothers’
bosom.
They cry out to their mothers: “Where is the grain and wine?” as they
faint like the wounded in the streets of the city, as their lives
fade away in the arms of their mothers.
What thing shall I take to witness for thee? what thing shall I
liken to thee, O daughter of Jerusalem? what shall I equal to thee, that I may comfort thee, O virgin daughter of
Zion? for thy breach is great like the sea: who can
heal thee?
What can I
say for you? To what can I compare you, O Daughter of Jerusalem? To what can I
liken you, that I may
console you, O Virgin Daughter of
Zion? For your wound is as deep as the sea. Who can ever
heal you?
All that pass by
clap their hands at thee; they hiss and
wag their head at the daughter of Jerusalem,
saying, Is this the city that men call The perfection of beauty, The joy of the whole earth?
All who pass by
clap their hands at you in
scorn. They hiss and
shake their heads at the Daughter of Jerusalem: “Is this the city that was called the perfection of beauty, the joy of all the earth?”
All thine enemies have opened their mouth against thee: they hiss and
gnash the teeth: they
say, We have
swallowed her up: certainly this is the day that we looked for; we have found, we have seen it.
All your enemies open their mouths against you. They hiss and
gnash their teeth,
saying, “We have
swallowed her up. This is the day for which we have waited. We have lived to see it!”
And I said, My strength and my hope is perished from the LORD:
So I say, “My strength has perished, along with my hope from the LORD.”
The LORD is my portion, saith my soul; therefore will I hope in him.
“The LORD is my portion,” says my soul, “therefore I will hope in Him.”
For they are
impudent children and stiffhearted. I do send thee unto them; and thou shalt
say unto them, Thus saith the Lord GOD.
They are
obstinate and
stubborn children. I am sending you to them, and you are to
say to them, ‘This is what the Lord GOD
says.’
But thou, son of man, hear what I
say unto thee; Be not thou
rebellious like that
rebellious house: open thy mouth, and eat that I give thee.
And you, son of man,
listen to what I tell you. Do not be
rebellious like that
rebellious house. Open your mouth and eat what I give you.”
And go, get thee to them of the captivity, unto the children of thy people, and speak unto them, and tell them, Thus saith the Lord GOD; whether they will hear, or whether they will
forbear.
Go to your people, the exiles; speak to them and tell them, ‘This is what the Lord GOD
says,’ whether they
listen or refuse to
listen.”
Then the spirit took me up, and I heard behind me a voice of a great
rushing,
saying, Blessed be the glory of the LORD from his place.
Then the Spirit lifted me up, and I heard a great
rumbling sound behind me: ‘Blessed be the glory of the LORD in His dwelling place!’
And it came to pass at the end of seven days, that the word of the LORD came unto me, saying,
At the end of seven days the word of the LORD came to me, saying,
When I
say unto the wicked, Thou shalt surely die; and thou givest him not
warning, nor speakest to
warn the wicked from his wicked way, to save his life; the same wicked man shall die in his iniquity; but his blood will I require at thine hand.
If I
say to the wicked man, ‘You will surely die,’ but you do not
warn him or speak out to
warn him from his wicked way to save his life, that wicked man will die in his iniquity, and I will hold you responsible for his blood.
But when I speak with thee, I will open thy mouth, and thou shalt
say unto them, Thus saith the Lord GOD; He that heareth, let him hear; and he that forbeareth, let him
forbear: for they are a
rebellious house.
But when I speak with you, I will open your mouth, and you are to tell them, ‘This is what the Lord GOD
says.’
Whoever listens, let him
listen; and
whoever refuses, let him refuse, for they are a
rebellious house.
Thus saith the Lord GOD; This is Jerusalem: I have set it in the midst of the nations and countries that are round about her.
This is what the Lord GOD says: ‘This is Jerusalem, which I have set in the center of the nations, with countries all around her.
Therefore thus saith the Lord GOD; Because ye multiplied more than the nations that are round about you, and have not walked in my statutes, neither have kept my judgments, neither have done according to the judgments of the nations that are round about you;
Therefore this is what the Lord GOD
says: ‘You have been more insubordinate than the nations around you; you have not walked in My statutes or kept My ordinances, nor have you even
conformed to the ordinances of the nations around you.’
Therefore thus saith the Lord GOD; Behold, I, even I, am against thee, and will
execute judgments in the midst of thee in the sight of the nations.
Therefore this is what the Lord GOD
says: ‘Behold, I Myself am against you, Jerusalem, and I will
execute judgments among you in the sight of the nations.
And the word of the LORD came unto me, saying,
And the word of the LORD came to me, saying,
And say, Ye mountains of Israel, hear the word of the Lord GOD; Thus saith the Lord GOD to the mountains, and to the hills, to the rivers, and to the valleys; Behold, I, even I, will bring a sword upon you, and I will destroy your high places.
You are to say: ‘O mountains of Israel, hear the word of the Lord GOD! This is what the Lord GOD says to the mountains and hills, to the ravines and valleys: I am about to bring a sword against you, and I will destroy your high places.
Thus saith the Lord GOD;
Smite with thine hand, and stamp with thy foot, and
say,
Alas for all the evil abominations of the house of Israel! for they shall fall by the sword, by the famine, and by the
pestilence.
This is what the Lord GOD
says:
Clap your hands,
stomp your feet, and cry out “
Alas!” because of all the wicked abominations of the house of Israel, who will fall by sword and famine and plague.
Moreover the word of the LORD came unto me, saying,
And the word of the LORD came to me, saying,
Also, thou son of man, thus saith the Lord GOD unto the land of Israel; An end, the end is come upon the four corners of the land.
“O son of man, this is what the Lord GOD says to the land of Israel: ‘The end! The end has come upon the four corners of the land.
Thus saith the Lord GOD; An evil, an only evil, behold, is come.
Then said he unto me, Son of man, hast thou seen what the ancients of the house of Israel do in the dark, every man in the chambers of his
imagery? for they
say, The LORD
seeth us not; the LORD hath
forsaken the earth.
“Son of man,” He said to me, “do you see what the elders of the house of Israel are doing in the darkness, each at the
shrine of his own
idol? For they are
saying, ‘The LORD does not see us; the LORD has
forsaken the land.’”
He
cried also in mine ears with a loud voice,
saying, Cause them that have charge over the city to draw near, even every man with his destroying weapon in his hand.
Then I heard Him call out in a loud voice, saying, “Draw near, O executioners of the city, each with a weapon of destruction in hand.”
Then said he unto me, The iniquity of the house of Israel and Judah is exceeding great, and the land is full of blood, and the city full of
perverseness: for they
say, The LORD hath
forsaken the earth, and the LORD
seeth not.
He replied, “The iniquity of the house of Israel and Judah is exceedingly great. The land is full of
bloodshed, and the city is full of
perversity. For they
say, ‘The LORD has
forsaken the land; the LORD does not see.’
And, behold, the man clothed with linen, which had the
inkhorn by his side, reported the matter,
saying, I have done as thou hast commanded me.
Then the man clothed in linen with the writing
kit at his side reported back, “I have done as You commanded.”
And it came to pass, that when he had commanded the man clothed with linen, saying, Take fire from between the wheels, from between the cherubims; then he went in, and stood beside the wheels.
When the LORD commanded the man clothed in linen,
saying, “Take fire from within the
wheelwork, from among the
cherubim,” the man went in and stood beside a wheel.
Which
say, It is not near; let us build houses: this city is the
caldron, and we be the flesh.
They are
saying, ‘Is not the time near to build houses? The city is the
cooking pot, and we are the meat.’
And the Spirit of the LORD fell upon me, and said unto me, Speak; Thus saith the LORD; Thus have ye said, O house of Israel: for I know the things that come into your mind, every one of them.
And the Spirit of the LORD fell upon me and told me to declare that this is what the LORD says: “That is what you are thinking, O house of Israel; and I know the thoughts that arise in your minds.
Therefore thus saith the Lord GOD; Your slain whom ye have laid in the midst of it, they are the flesh, and this city is the
caldron: but I will bring you forth out of the midst of it.
Therefore this is what the Lord GOD says: The slain you have laid within this city are the meat, and the city is the pot; but I will remove you from it.
Again the word of the LORD came unto me, saying,
Then the word of the LORD came to me, saying,
Therefore say, Thus saith the Lord GOD; Although I have cast them far off among the heathen, and although I have scattered them among the countries, yet will I be to them as a little sanctuary in the countries where they shall come.
Therefore declare that this is what the Lord GOD says: ‘Although I sent them far away among the nations and scattered them among the countries, yet for a little while I have been a sanctuary for them in the countries to which they have gone.’
Therefore
say, Thus saith the Lord GOD; I will even gather you from the people, and
assemble you out of the countries where ye have been scattered, and I will give you the land of Israel.
Therefore declare that this is what the Lord GOD
says: ‘I will gather you from the peoples and
assemble you from the countries to which you have been scattered, and I will give back to you the land of Israel.’
The word of the LORD also came unto me, saying,
Then the word of the LORD came to me, saying,
And in the morning came the word of the LORD unto me, saying,
And in the morning the word of the LORD came to me, saying,
Say thou unto them, Thus saith the Lord GOD; This burden concerneth the prince in Jerusalem, and all the house of Israel that are among them.
Tell them that this is what the Lord GOD says: ‘This burden concerns the prince in Jerusalem and all the house of Israel who are there.’
Say, I am your sign: like as I have done, so shall it be done unto them: they shall remove and go into captivity.
You are to
say, ‘I am a sign to you.’ Just as it happened here, so will it be done to them; they will go into exile as
captives.
Moreover the word of the LORD came to me, saying,
Moreover, the word of the LORD came to me, saying,
And
say unto the people of the land, Thus saith the Lord GOD of the inhabitants of Jerusalem, and of the land of Israel; They shall eat their bread with carefulness, and drink their water with
astonishment, that her land may be
desolate from all that is therein, because of the violence of all them that dwell therein.
Then tell the people of the land that this is what the Lord GOD
says about those living in Jerusalem and in the land of Israel: ‘They will eat their bread with
anxiety and drink their water in
dread, for their land will be
stripped of everything in it because of the violence of all who dwell in it.
And the word of the LORD came unto me, saying,
Again the word of the LORD came to me, saying,
Son of man, what is that
proverb that ye have in the land of Israel,
saying, The days are prolonged, and every vision faileth?
“Son of man, what is this
proverb that you have in the land of Israel: ‘The days go by, and every vision fails’?
Tell them therefore, Thus saith the Lord GOD; I will make this
proverb to cease, and they shall no more use it as a
proverb in Israel; but
say unto them, The days are at hand, and the effect of every vision.
Therefore tell them that this is what the Lord GOD
says: ‘I will put an end to this
proverb, and in Israel they will no longer
recite it.’ But
say to them: ‘The days are at hand when every vision will be fulfilled.
For I am the LORD: I will speak, and the word that I shall speak shall come to pass; it shall be no more prolonged: for in your days, O
rebellious house, will I
say the word, and will perform it, saith the Lord GOD.
because I, the LORD, will speak whatever word I speak, and it will be fulfilled without delay. For in your days, O
rebellious house, I will speak a message and bring it to pass, declares the Lord GOD.’”
Again the word of the LORD came to me, saying,
Son of man, behold, they of the house of Israel
say, The vision that he
seeth is for many days to come, and he prophesieth of the times that are far off.
“Son of man, take note that the house of Israel is saying, ‘The vision that he sees is for many years from now; he prophesies about the distant future.’
Therefore say unto them, Thus saith the Lord GOD; There shall none of my words be prolonged any more, but the word which I have spoken shall be done, saith the Lord GOD.
Therefore tell them that this is what the Lord GOD says: ‘None of My words will be delayed any longer. The message I speak will be fulfilled, declares the Lord GOD.’”
And the word of the LORD came unto me, saying,
Then the word of the LORD came to me, saying,
Son of man,
prophesy against the prophets of Israel that
prophesy, and
say thou unto them that
prophesy out of their own hearts, Hear ye the word of the LORD;
“Son of man,
prophesy against the prophets of Israel who are now
prophesying. Tell those who
prophesy out of their own imagination: Hear the word of the LORD!
Thus saith the Lord GOD;
Woe unto the
foolish prophets, that follow their own spirit, and have seen nothing!
This is what the Lord GOD
says:
Woe to the
foolish prophets who follow their own spirit, yet have seen nothing.
They have seen vanity and lying
divination,
saying, The LORD saith: and the LORD hath not sent them: and they have made others to hope that they would
confirm the word.
They see false visions and speak lying divinations. They claim, ‘Thus declares the LORD,’ when the LORD did not send them; yet they wait for the
fulfillment of their message.
Have ye not seen a vain vision, and have ye not spoken a lying
divination, whereas ye
say, The LORD saith it;
albeit I have not spoken?
Haven’t you seen a false vision and spoken a lying
divination when you
proclaim, ‘Thus declares the LORD,’ even though I have not spoken?
Therefore thus saith the Lord GOD; Because ye have spoken vanity, and seen lies, therefore, behold, I am against you, saith the Lord GOD.
Therefore this is what the Lord GOD says: Because you have uttered vain words and seen false visions, I am against you, declares the Lord GOD.
Because, even because they have
seduced my people,
saying, Peace; and there was no peace; and one built up a wall, and, lo, others
daubed it with untempered
morter:
Because they have led My people
astray,
saying, ‘Peace,’ when there is no peace, and
whitewashing any
flimsy wall that is built,
Say unto them which
daub it with untempered
morter, that it shall fall: there shall be an overflowing shower; and ye, O great hailstones, shall fall; and a
stormy wind shall
rend it.
Therefore thus saith the Lord GOD; I will even
rend it with a
stormy wind in my
fury; and there shall be an overflowing shower in mine anger, and great hailstones in my
fury to
consume it.
Therefore this is what the Lord GOD
says: In My wrath I will release a
windstorm, and in My anger torrents of rain and
hail will fall with destructive
fury.
Thus will I
accomplish my wrath upon the wall, and upon them that have
daubed it with untempered
morter, and will
say unto you, The wall is no more, neither they that
daubed it;
And after I have
vented My wrath against the wall and against those who
whitewashed it, I will
say to you: ‘The wall is gone, and so are those who
whitewashed it—
And
say, Thus saith the Lord GOD;
Woe to the women that
sew pillows to all armholes, and make
kerchiefs upon the head of every
stature to
hunt souls! Will ye
hunt the souls of my people, and will ye save the souls alive that come unto you?
and tell them that this is what the Lord GOD
says:
Woe to the women who
sew magic charms on their wrists and make veils for the heads of people of every height, in order to
