For they have taken of their daughters for themselves, and for their
sons: so that the holy seed have mingled themselves with the people of those lands:
yea, the hand of the princes and rulers hath been chief in this
trespass.
Indeed, the Israelites have taken some of their daughters as wives for themselves and their sons, so that the holy seed has been mixed with the people of the land. And the leaders and officials have taken the lead in this unfaithfulness!”
Now therefore give not your daughters unto their sons, neither take their daughters unto your sons, nor seek their peace or their wealth for ever: that ye may be strong, and eat the good of the land, and leave it for an inheritance to your children for ever.
Now, therefore, do not give your daughters in marriage to their

sons forever.’

For there were that said, We, our sons, and our daughters, are many: therefore we take up corn for them, that we may eat, and live.
Some were saying, “We and our sons and daughters are numerous. We must get grain in order to eat and stay alive.”
Yet now our flesh is as the flesh of our brethren, our children as their children: and, lo, we bring into
bondage our
sons and our daughters to be servants, and some of our daughters are brought unto
bondage already: neither is it in our power to
redeem them; for other men have our lands and vineyards.
We and our children are just like our countrymen and their children, yet we are subjecting our
sons and daughters to slavery. Some of our daughters are already
enslaved, but we are powerless to
redeem them because our fields and vineyards belong to others.”

purification, according to the commandment of David, and of Solomon his
son.
They performed the service of their God and the service of
purification, along with the singers and gatekeepers, as David and his
son Solomon had prescribed.
For in the days of David and
Asaph of old there were chief of the singers, and
songs of praise and
thanksgiving unto God.
For long ago, in the days of David and
Asaph, there were directors for the singers and for the
songs of praise and
thanksgiving to God.
And I made treasurers over the
treasuries, Shelemiah the priest, and
Zadok the
scribe, and of the Levites, Pedaiah: and next to them was Hanan the
son of Zaccur, the
son of Mattaniah: for they were counted faithful, and their office was to distribute unto their brethren.
I appointed as treasurers over the storerooms Shelemiah the priest,
Zadok the
scribe, and Pedaiah of the Levites, with Hanan
son of Zaccur, the
son of Mattaniah, to assist them, because they were considered
trustworthy. They were responsible for distributing the supplies to their fellow Levites.
And I
contended with them, and
cursed them, and
smote certain of them, and
plucked off their hair, and made them
swear by God, saying, Ye shall not give your daughters unto their
sons, nor take their daughters unto your
sons, or for
yourselves.
I
rebuked them and called down curses on them. I beat some of these men and pulled out their hair. Then I made them take an oath before God and said, “You must not give your daughters in marriage to their
sons or take their daughters as wives for your
sons or for
yourselves!
And one of the
sons of Joiada, the
son of Eliashib the high priest, was
son in law to
Sanballat the Horonite: therefore I
chased him from me.
Even one of the
sons of Jehoiada
son of Eliashib the high priest had become a
son-in-law to
Sanballat the Horonite. Therefore I drove him away from me.
Now there was at the citadel of
Susa a Jewish man from the tribe of Benjamin named
Mordecai son of
Jair, the
son of Shimei, the
son of
Kish.
After these things did king
Ahasuerus promote
Haman the
son of Hammedatha the Agagite, and advanced him, and set his seat above all the princes that were with him.
After these events, King
Xerxes honored
Haman son of Hammedatha, the Agagite,
elevating him to a position above all the princes who were with him.
And the king took his ring from his hand, and gave it unto
Haman the
son of Hammedatha the Agagite, the Jews’ enemy.
So the king removed the
signet ring from his finger and gave it to
Haman son of Hammedatha, the Agagite, the enemy of the Jews.
And
Haman told them of the glory of his riches, and the multitude of his children, and all the things wherein the king had promoted him, and how he had advanced him above the princes and servants of the king.
Haman recounted to them his glorious wealth, his many
sons, and all the ways the king had honored and promoted him over the other officials and servants.
