Berean Standard Bible BSB Bible
And judgment is turned away backward, and justice
standeth afar off: for truth is fallen in the street, and
equity cannot enter.
So justice is turned away, and righteousness
stands at a distance. For truth has
stumbled in the public square, and
honesty cannot enter.
So shall they fear the name of the LORD from the west, and his glory from the rising of the sun. When the enemy shall come in like a flood, the Spirit of the LORD shall lift up a standard against him.
So shall they fear the name of the LORD where the sun sets, and His glory where it rises. For He will come like a
raging flood, driven by the breath of the LORD.
Therefore thy gates shall be open continually; they shall not be shut day nor night; that men may bring unto thee the forces of the Gentiles, and that their kings may be brought.
Your gates will always
stand open; they will never be shut, day or night, so that the wealth of the nations may be brought into you, with their kings being led in
procession.
And strangers shall
stand and feed your flocks, and the sons of the
alien shall be your plowmen and your vinedressers.
Strangers will stand and feed your flocks, and foreigners will be your plowmen and vinedressers.
Go through, go through the gates; prepare ye the way of the people; cast up, cast up the
highways; gather out the stones; lift up a
standard for the people.
Go out, go out through the gates; prepare the way for the people! Build it up, build up the
highway; clear away the stones; raise a
banner for the nations!
Which say,
Stand by
thyself, come not near to me; for I am holier than thou. These are a smoke in my nose, a fire that burneth all the day.
They say, ‘Keep to
yourself; do not come near me, for I am holier than you!’ Such people are smoke in My nostrils, a fire that burns all day long.
Thou therefore
gird up thy loins, and arise, and speak unto them all that I command thee: be not dismayed at their faces, lest I
confound thee before them.
Get
yourself ready.
Stand up and tell them everything that I command you. Do not be
intimidated by them, or I will
terrify you before them.
Set up the
standard toward
Zion: retire, stay not: for I will bring evil from the north, and a great destruction.
Raise a signal flag toward
Zion. Seek refuge! Do not delay! For I am bringing
disaster from the north, and terrible destruction.
How long shall I see the
standard, and hear the sound of the
trumpet?
How long must I see the signal flag and hear the sound of the horn?
Thus saith the LORD, Stand ye in the ways, and see, and ask for the old paths, where is the good way, and walk therein, and ye shall find rest for your souls. But they said, We will not walk therein.
This is what the LORD says: “Stand at the crossroads and look. Ask for the ancient paths: ‘Where is the good way?’ Then walk in it, and you will find rest for your souls. But they said, ‘We will not walk in it!’
Stand in the gate of the LORD’S house, and
proclaim there this word, and say, Hear the word of the LORD, all ye of Judah, that enter in at these gates to worship the LORD.
“
Stand in the gate of the house of the LORD and
proclaim this message: Hear the word of the LORD, all you people of Judah who enter through these gates to worship the LORD.
And come and stand before me in this house, which is called by my name, and say, We are delivered to do all these abominations?
and then come and stand before Me in this house, which bears My Name, and say, ‘We are delivered, so we can continue with all these abominations’?
And the wild
asses did
stand in the high places, they
snuffed up the wind like
dragons; their eyes did fail, because there was no grass.
Wild
donkeys stand on barren heights; they
pant for air like jackals; their eyes fail for lack of pasture.”
Then said the LORD unto me, Though Moses and Samuel stood before me, yet my mind could not be toward this people: cast them out of my sight, and let them go forth.
Then the LORD said to me: “Even if Moses and Samuel should stand before Me, My heart would not go out to this people. Send them from My presence, and let them go.
Therefore thus saith the LORD, If thou return, then will I bring thee again, and thou shalt
stand before me: and if thou take forth the precious from the
vile, thou shalt be as my mouth: let them return unto thee; but return not thou unto them.
Therefore this is what the LORD says: “If you return, I will restore you; you will
stand in My presence. And if you speak words that are noble instead of worthless, you will be My
spokesman. It is they who must turn to you, but you must not turn to them.
Thus said the LORD unto me; Go and stand in the gate of the children of the people, whereby the kings of Judah come in, and by the which they go out, and in all the gates of Jerusalem;
This is what the LORD said to me: “Go and stand at the gate of the people, through which the kings of Judah go in and out; and stand at all the other gates of Jerusalem.
Thus saith the LORD; Stand in the court of the LORD’S house, and speak unto all the cities of Judah, which come to worship in the LORD’S house, all the words that I command thee to speak unto them; diminish not a word:
“This is what the LORD says:
Stand in the
courtyard of the house of the LORD and speak all the words I have commanded you to speak to all the cities of Judah who come to worship there. Do not
omit a word.
Then the prophet Jeremiah said unto the prophet Hananiah in the presence of the priests, and in the presence of all the people that stood in the house of the LORD,
Then the prophet Jeremiah replied to the prophet Hananiah in the presence of the priests and all the people who were standing in the house of the LORD.
Thus saith the LORD; Behold, I will bring again the captivity of Jacob’s tents, and have mercy on his dwellingplaces; and the city shall be builded upon her own
heap, and the palace shall remain after the manner thereof.
This is what the LORD says: “I will restore the fortunes of Jacob’s tents and have
compassion on his dwellings. And the city will be rebuilt on her own ruins, and the palace will
stand in its rightful place.
Therefore thus saith the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel; Jonadab the son of Rechab shall not want a man to stand before me for ever.
this is what the LORD of Hosts, the God of Israel, says: Jonadab son of Rechab will never fail to have a man to stand before Me.’”
So the king sent Jehudi to
fetch the roll: and he took it out of Elishama the
scribe’s chamber. And Jehudi read it in the ears of the king, and in the ears of all the princes which stood beside the king.
Then the king sent Jehudi to get the
scroll, and he took it from the chamber of Elishama the
scribe. And Jehudi read it in the hearing of the king and all the officials who were
standing beside him.
Then all the men which knew that their wives had burned incense unto other gods, and all the women that stood by, a great multitude, even all the people that dwelt in the land of Egypt, in Pathros, answered Jeremiah, saying,
Then all the men who knew that their wives were burning incense to other gods, and all the women standing by—a great assembly—along with all the people living in the land of Egypt and in Pathros, said to Jeremiah,
Yet a small number that escape the sword shall return out of the land of Egypt into the land of Judah, and all the
remnant of Judah, that are gone into the land of Egypt to
sojourn there, shall know whose words shall
stand, mine, or theirs.
Those who escape the sword will return from Egypt to Judah, few in number, and the whole
remnant of Judah who went to dwell in the land of Egypt will know whose word will
stand, Mine or theirs!
And this shall be a sign unto you, saith the LORD, that I will
punish you in this place, that ye may know that my words shall surely
stand against you for evil:
This will be a sign to you that I will
punish you in this place, declares the LORD, so that you may know that My threats of
harm against you will surely
stand.
Harness the horses; and get up, ye
horsemen, and
stand forth with your helmets;
furbish the spears, and put on the brigandines.
Harness the horses; mount the steeds; take your positions with helmets on! Polish your spears; put on
armor!
Declare ye in Egypt, and
publish in
Migdol, and
publish in
Noph and in Tahpanhes: say ye,
Stand fast, and prepare thee; for the sword shall
devour round about thee.
Why are thy
valiant men swept away? they stood not, because the LORD did drive them.
Why have your warriors been laid low? They cannot stand, for the LORD has thrust them down.
Also her
hired men are in the midst of her like
fatted bullocks; for they also are turned back, and are fled away together: they did not
stand, because the day of their
calamity was come upon them, and the time of their
visitation.
Even the
mercenaries among her are like
fattened calves. They too will turn back; together they will
flee, they will not
stand their ground, for the day of
calamity is coming upon them— the time of their punishment.
O inhabitant of Aroer,
stand by the way, and
espy; ask him that fleeth, and her that escapeth, and say, What is done?
Stand by the road and watch, O dweller of Aroer! Ask the man
fleeing or the woman escaping, ‘What has happened?’
They that fled stood under the shadow of
Heshbon because of the force: but a fire shall come forth out of
Heshbon, and a flame from the midst of Sihon, and shall
devour the corner of Moab, and the crown of the head of the
tumultuous ones.
“Those who
flee will
stand helpless in
Heshbon’s shadow, because fire has gone forth from
Heshbon and a flame from within Sihon. It devours the foreheads of Moab and the skulls of the sons of
tumult.
Behold, he shall come up like a lion from the swelling of Jordan against the
habitation of the strong: but I will suddenly make him run away from her: and who is a chosen man, that I may
appoint over her? for who is like me? and who will
appoint me the time? and who is that
shepherd that will
stand before me?
Behold, one will come up like a lion from the thickets of the Jordan to the watered pasture. For in an instant I will
chase Edom from her land. Who is the chosen one I will
appoint for this? For who is like Me, and who can
challenge Me? What
shepherd can
stand against Me?”
Declare ye among the nations, and
publish, and set up a
standard;
publish, and
conceal not: say, Babylon is taken,
Bel is confounded, Merodach is broken in pieces; her idols are confounded, her images are broken in pieces.
“
Announce and declare to the nations; lift up a
banner and
proclaim it; hold nothing back when you say, ‘Babylon is captured;
Bel is put to shame; Marduk is
shattered, her images are disgraced, her idols are broken in pieces.’
Behold, he shall come up like a lion from the swelling of Jordan unto the
habitation of the strong: but I will make them suddenly run away from her: and who is a chosen man, that I may
appoint over her? for who is like me? and who will
appoint me the time? and who is that
shepherd that will
stand before me?
Behold, one will come up like a lion from the thickets of the Jordan to the watered pasture. For in an instant I will
chase Babylon from her land. Who is the chosen one I will
appoint for this? For who is like Me, and who can
challenge Me? What
shepherd can
stand against Me?”
Set up the
standard upon the walls of Babylon, make the watch strong, set up the
watchmen, prepare the ambushes: for the LORD hath both devised and done that which he spake against the inhabitants of Babylon.
Raise a
banner against the walls of Babylon; post the guard; station the
watchmen; prepare the
ambush. For the LORD has both devised and accomplished what He spoke against the people of Babylon.
Set ye up a
standard in the land, blow the
trumpet among the nations, prepare the nations against her, call together against her the kingdoms of
Ararat, Minni, and Ashchenaz;
appoint a captain against her; cause the horses to come up as the rough caterpillers.
“Raise a
banner in the land! Blow the ram’s horn among the nations! Prepare the nations against her.
Summon the kingdoms against her—
Ararat, Minni, and
Ashkenaz.
Appoint a captain against her; bring up horses like
swarming locusts.
And the land shall
tremble and sorrow: for every purpose of the LORD shall be performed against Babylon, to make the land of Babylon a
desolation without an inhabitant.
The earth quakes and writhes because the LORD’s intentions against Babylon
stand: to make the land of Babylon a
desolation, without inhabitant.
Ye that have escaped the sword, go away,
stand not still: remember the LORD
afar off, and let Jerusalem come into your mind.
You who have escaped the sword, depart and do not
linger! Remember the LORD from far away, and let Jerusalem come to mind.”
Also the pillars of brass that were in the house of the LORD, and the bases, and the
brasen sea that was in the house of the LORD, the Chaldeans
brake, and carried all the brass of them to Babylon.
Moreover, the Chaldeans broke up the bronze pillars and stands and the bronze Sea in the house of the LORD, and they carried all the bronze to Babylon.
The two pillars, one sea, and twelve
brasen bulls that were under the bases, which king Solomon had made in the house of the LORD: the brass of all these vessels was without weight.
As for the two pillars, the Sea, the twelve bronze bulls under it, and the movable stands that King Solomon had made for the house of the LORD, the weight of the bronze from all these articles was beyond measure.
And he said unto me, Son of man, stand upon thy feet, and I will speak unto thee.
“Son of man,” He said to me, “stand up on your feet and I will speak to you.”
The king shall
mourn, and the prince shall be clothed with
desolation, and the hands of the people of the land shall be troubled: I will do unto them after their way, and according to their deserts will I judge them; and they shall know that I am the LORD.
The king will
mourn, the prince will be clothed with
despair, and the hands of the people of the land will
tremble. I will deal with them according to their conduct, and I will judge them by their own
standards. Then they will know that I am the LORD.’”
And there stood before them seventy men of the ancients of the house of Israel, and in the midst of them stood Jaazaniah the son of Shaphan, with every man his
censer in his hand; and a thick cloud of incense went up.
Before them stood seventy elders of the house of Israel, with Jaazaniah son of Shaphan
standing among them. Each had a
censer in his hand, and a
fragrant cloud of incense was rising.
Now the cherubims stood on the right side of the house, when the man went in; and the cloud filled the inner court.
Now when the man went in, the
cherubim were
standing on the south side of the temple, and a cloud filled the inner court.
Ye have not gone up into the gaps, neither made up the
hedge for the house of Israel to
stand in the battle in the day of the LORD.
You did not go up to the gaps or restore the wall around the house of Israel so that it would stand in the battle on the Day of the LORD.
That the kingdom might be base, that it might not lift itself up, but that by keeping of his covenant it might stand.
so that the kingdom would be brought low, unable to lift itself up,
surviving only by keeping his covenant.
For the king of Babylon stood at the parting of the way, at the head of the two ways, to use
divination: he made his arrows bright, he consulted with images, he looked in the liver.
For the king of Babylon
stands at the
fork in the road, at the junction of the two roads, to seek an
omen: He shakes the arrows, he consults the idols, he examines the liver.
And I sought for a man among them, that should make up the
hedge, and
stand in the
gap before me for the land, that I should not destroy it: but I found none.
I searched for a man among them to repair the wall and
stand in the
gap before Me on behalf of the land, so that I should not destroy it. But I found no one.
And they shall come against thee with
chariots, wagons, and wheels, and with an assembly of people, which shall set against thee
buckler and shield and
helmet round about: and I will set judgment before them, and they shall judge thee according to their judgments.
They will come against you with a host of peoples, with weapons,
chariots, and wagons. They will
array themselves against you on every side with
buckler and shield and
helmet. I will
delegate judgment to them, and they will
punish you according to their own
standards.
And all that handle the
oar, the mariners, and all the pilots of the sea, shall come down from their ships, they shall
stand upon the land;
All who handle the oars will
abandon their ships. The sailors and all the captains of the sea will
stand on the shore.
When they took hold of thee by thy hand, thou
didst break, and
rend all their shoulder: and when they
leaned upon thee, thou brakest, and madest all their loins to be at a
stand.
When Israel took hold of you with their hands, you
splintered,
tearing all their shoulders; when they
leaned on you, you broke, and their backs were
wrenched.
To the end that none of all the trees by the waters
exalt themselves for their height, neither shoot up their top among the thick boughs, neither their trees
stand up in their height, all that drink water: for they are all delivered unto death, to the
nether parts of the earth, in the midst of the children of men, with them that go down to the pit.
This happened so that no other trees by the waters would become great in height and set their tops among the clouds, and no other well-watered trees would reach them in height. For they have all been
consigned to death, to the depths of the earth, among the mortals who descend to the Pit.’
Ye
stand upon your sword, ye work
abomination, and ye
defile every one his neighbour’s wife: and shall ye possess the land?
And he brought me thither, and, behold, there was a man, whose appearance was like the appearance of brass, with a line of flax in his hand, and a measuring reed; and he stood in the gate.
So He took me there, and I saw a man whose appearance was like bronze. He was
standing in the
gateway with a linen cord and a measuring rod in his hand.
And I heard him speaking unto me out of the house; and the man stood by me.
While the man was standing beside me, I heard someone speaking to me from inside the temple,
Yet they shall be ministers in my sanctuary, having charge at the gates of the house, and ministering to the house: they shall
slay the burnt offering and the sacrifice for the people, and they shall
stand before them to minister unto them.
Yet they shall be ministers in My sanctuary, having charge of the gates of the temple and ministering there. They shall slaughter the burnt offerings and other sacrifices for the people and stand before them to minister to them.
But the priests the Levites, the sons of
Zadok, that kept the charge of my sanctuary when the children of Israel went
astray from me, they shall come near to me to minister unto me, and they shall
stand before me to offer unto me the fat and the blood, saith the Lord GOD:
But the
Levitical priests, who are descended from
Zadok and who kept charge of My sanctuary when the Israelites went
astray from Me, are to approach Me to minister before Me. They will
stand before Me to offer Me fat and blood, declares the Lord GOD.
And in controversy they shall
stand in judgment; and they shall judge it according to my judgments: and they shall keep my laws and my statutes in all mine
assemblies; and they shall
hallow my sabbaths.
In any dispute, they shall
officiate as judges and judge according to My ordinances. They must keep My laws and statutes regarding all My appointed feasts, and they must keep My Sabbaths holy.
The
ephah and the bath shall be of one measure, that the bath may contain the tenth part of an homer, and the
ephah the tenth part of an homer: the measure thereof shall be after the homer.
The
ephah and the bath shall be the same quantity so that the bath will contain a tenth of a homer, and the
ephah a tenth of a homer; the homer will be the
standard measure for both.
And the prince shall enter by the way of the
porch of that gate without, and shall
stand by the post of the gate, and the priests shall prepare his burnt offering and his peace offerings, and he shall worship at the
threshold of the gate: then he shall go forth; but the gate shall not be shut until the evening.
The prince is to enter from the outside through the
portico of the
gateway and
stand by the
gatepost, while the priests sacrifice his burnt offerings and peace offerings. He is to bow in worship at the
threshold of the gate and then depart, but the gate must not be shut until evening.
And it shall come to pass, that the fishers shall stand upon it from En-gedi even unto En-eglaim; they shall be a place to spread forth nets; their fish shall be according to their kinds, as the fish of the great sea, exceeding many.
Fishermen will
stand by the shore; from En-gedi to En-eglaim they will spread their nets to catch fish of many kinds, like the fish of the Great Sea.
Children in whom was no
blemish, but well favoured, and skilful in all wisdom, and
cunning in knowledge, and understanding science, and such as had ability in them to
stand in the king’s palace, and whom they might teach the learning and the tongue of the Chaldeans.
young men without
blemish, handsome, gifted in all wisdom, knowledgeable, quick to understand, and qualified to serve in the king’s palace—and to teach them the language and literature of the Chaldeans.
And the king appointed them a daily provision of the king’s meat, and of the wine which he
drank: so
nourishing them three years, that at the end thereof they might
stand before the king.
The king assigned them daily provisions of the royal food and wine. They were to be trained for three years, after which they were to enter the king’s service.
And in the days of these kings shall the God of heaven set up a kingdom, which shall never be destroyed: and the kingdom shall not be left to other people, but it shall break in pieces and
consume all these kingdoms, and it shall
stand for ever.
In the days of those kings, the God of heaven will set up a kingdom that will never be destroyed, nor will it be left to another people. It will
shatter all these kingdoms and bring them to an end, but will itself
stand forever.
Then they came near, and spake before the king concerning the king’s decree; Hast thou not signed a decree, that every man that shall ask a petition of any God or man within thirty days, save of thee, O king, shall be cast into the den of lions? The king answered and said, The thing is true, according to the law of the Medes and Persians, which altereth not.
So they approached the king and asked about his royal decree: “Did you not sign a decree that for thirty days any man who petitions any god or man except you, O king, will be thrown into the den of lions?” The king replied, “According to the law of the Medes and Persians the order
stands, and it cannot be
repealed.”
The first was like a lion, and had eagle’s wings: I
beheld till the wings thereof were
plucked, and it was lifted up from the earth, and made
stand upon the feet as a man, and a man’s heart was given to it.
The first beast was like a lion, and it had the wings of an eagle. I watched until its wings were
torn off and it was lifted up from the ground and made to
stand on two feet like a man, and given the mind of a man.
I came near unto one of them that stood by, and asked him the truth of all this. So he told me, and made me know the interpretation of the things.
I approached one of those who were standing there, and I asked him the true meaning of all this. So he told me the interpretation of these things:
Then I lifted up mine eyes, and saw, and, behold, there stood before the river a ram which had two horns: and the two horns were high; but one was higher than the other, and the higher came up last.
Then I lifted up my eyes and saw a ram with two horns standing beside the canal. The horns were long, but one was longer than the other, and the longer one grew up later.
I saw the ram
pushing westward, and northward, and southward; so that no beasts might
stand before him, neither was there any that could deliver out of his hand; but he did according to his will, and became great.
I saw the ram charging toward the west and the north and the south. No animal could
stand against him, and there was no
deliverance from his power. He did as he pleased and became great.
And he came to the ram that had two horns, which I had seen
standing before the river, and ran unto him in the
fury of his power.
He came toward the two-horned ram I had seen
standing beside the canal and
rushed at him with
furious power.
And I saw him come close unto the ram, and he was moved with
choler against him, and
smote the ram, and
brake his two horns: and there was no power in the ram to
stand before him, but he cast him down to the ground, and stamped upon him: and there was none that could deliver the ram out of his hand.
I saw him approach the ram in a
rage against him, and he struck the ram and
shattered his two horns. The ram was powerless to
stand against him, and the goat threw him to the ground and
trampled him, and no one could deliver the ram from his power.
Now that being broken, whereas four stood up for it, four kingdoms shall stand up out of the nation, but not in his power.
The four horns that replaced the broken one represent four kingdoms that will rise from that nation, but will not have the same power.
And in the latter time of their kingdom, when the transgressors are come to the full, a king of fierce countenance, and understanding dark sentences, shall stand up.
In the latter part of their reign, when the rebellion has reached its full measure, an
insolent king, skilled in
intrigue, will come to the throne.
And through his policy also he shall cause craft to
prosper in his hand; and he shall
magnify himself in his heart, and by peace shall destroy many: he shall also
stand up against the Prince of princes; but he shall be broken without hand.
Through his craft and by his hand, he will cause
deceit to
prosper, and in his own mind he will make himself great. In a time of peace he will destroy many, and he will even
stand against the Prince of princes. Yet he will be broken off, but not by human hands.
And in the four and
twentieth day of the first month, as I was by the side of the great river, which is
Hiddekel;
On the twenty-fourth day of the first month, as I was
standing on the bank of the great river, the
Tigris,
And he said unto me, O Daniel, a man greatly beloved, understand the words that I speak unto thee, and
stand upright: for unto thee am I now sent. And when he had spoken this word unto me, I stood
trembling.
He said to me, “Daniel, you are a man who is highly precious. Consider carefully the words that I am about to say to you.
Stand up, for I have now been sent to you.” And when he had said this to me, I stood up
trembling.
And, behold, one like the
similitude of the sons of men touched my lips: then I opened my mouth, and spake, and said unto him that stood before me, O my lord, by the vision my sorrows are turned upon me, and I have retained no strength.
And suddenly one with the likeness of a man touched my lips, and I opened my mouth and said to the one
standing before me, “My lord, because of the vision, I am overcome with
anguish, and I have no strength.
And now will I
shew thee the truth. Behold, there shall
stand up yet three kings in Persia; and the fourth shall be far richer than they all: and by his strength through his riches he shall
stir up all against the realm of
Grecia.
Now then, I will tell you the truth: Three more kings will arise in Persia, and then a fourth, who will be far richer than all the others. By the power of his wealth, he will
stir up
everyone against the kingdom of Greece.
And a mighty king shall stand up, that shall rule with great dominion, and do according to his will.
Then a mighty king will arise, who will rule with great authority and do as he pleases.
And when he shall
stand up, his kingdom shall be broken, and shall be divided toward the four winds of heaven; and not to his
posterity, nor according to his dominion which he ruled: for his kingdom shall be
plucked up, even for others beside those.
But as soon as he is established, his kingdom will be broken up and
parceled out toward the four winds of heaven. It will not go to his descendants, nor will it have the authority with which he ruled, because his kingdom will be uprooted and given to others.
And in the end of years they shall join themselves together; for the king’s daughter of the south shall come to the king of the north to make an agreement: but she shall not retain the power of the arm; neither shall he
stand, nor his arm: but she shall be given up, and they that brought her, and he that
begat her, and he that strengthened her in these times.
After some years they will form an alliance, and the daughter of the king of the South will go to the king of the North to seal the agreement. But his daughter will not retain her position of power, nor will his strength
endure. At that time she will be given up, along with her royal
escort and her father and the one who supported her.
But out of a branch of her roots shall one stand up in his estate, which shall come with an army, and shall enter into the fortress of the king of the north, and shall deal against them, and shall prevail:
But one from her family line will rise up in his place, come against the army of the king of the North, and enter his fortress, fighting and prevailing.
And in those times there shall many
stand up against the king of the south: also the robbers of thy people shall
exalt themselves to establish the vision; but they shall fall.
In those times many will rise up against the king of the South. Violent ones among your own people will
exalt themselves in
fulfillment of the vision, but they will fail.
So the king of the north shall come, and cast up a mount, and take the most
fenced cities: and the arms of the south shall not
withstand, neither his chosen people, neither shall there be any strength to
withstand.
Then the king of the North will come, build up a siege
ramp, and capture a fortified city. The forces of the South will not
stand; even their best troops will not be able to resist.
But he that cometh against him shall do according to his own will, and none shall stand before him: and he shall stand in the glorious land, which by his hand shall be consumed.
The
invader will do as he pleases, and no one will
stand against him. He will establish himself in the Beautiful Land, with destruction in his hand.
He shall also set his face to enter with the strength of his whole kingdom, and upright ones with him; thus shall he do: and he shall give him the daughter of women, corrupting her: but she shall not stand on his side, neither be for him.
He will
resolve to come with the strength of his whole kingdom, and will reach an agreement with the king of the South. He will give him a daughter in marriage in order to overthrow the kingdom, but his plan will not succeed or help him.
Then shall stand up in his estate a raiser of taxes in the glory of the kingdom: but within few days he shall be destroyed, neither in anger, nor in battle.
In his place one will arise who will send out a tax
collector for the glory of the kingdom; but within a few days he will be destroyed, though not in anger or in battle.
And in his estate shall
stand up a
vile person, to whom they shall not give the honour of the kingdom: but he shall come in
peaceably, and obtain the kingdom by
flatteries.
In his place a
despicable person will arise; royal honors will not be given to him, but he will come in a time of peace and seize the kingdom by
intrigue.
And he shall
stir up his power and his courage against the king of the south with a great army; and the king of the south shall be
stirred up to battle with a very great and mighty army; but he shall not
stand: for they shall
forecast devices against him.
And with a large army he will
stir up his power and his courage against the king of the South, who will
mobilize a very large and powerful army but will not
withstand the plots devised against him.
And arms shall
stand on his part, and they shall
pollute the sanctuary of strength, and shall take away the daily sacrifice, and they shall place the
abomination that maketh
desolate.
And at that time shall Michael stand up, the great prince which standeth for the children of thy people: and there shall be a time of trouble, such as never was since there was a nation even to that same time: and at that time thy people shall be delivered, every one that shall be found written in the book.
“At that time Michael, the great prince who
stands watch over your people, will rise up. There will be a time of distress, the likes of which will not have occurred from the beginning of nations until that time. But at that time your people—
everyone whose name is found written in the book—will be delivered.
Then I Daniel looked, and, behold, there stood other two, the one on this side of the bank of the river, and the other on that side of the bank of the river.
Then I, Daniel, looked and saw two others standing there, one on this bank of the river and one on the opposite bank.
But go thou thy way till the end be: for thou shalt rest, and stand in thy lot at the end of the days.
But as for you, go on your way until the end. You will rest, and will arise to your inheritance at the end of the days.”
For they have sown the wind, and they shall
reap the
whirlwind: it hath no
stalk: the
bud shall yield no meal: if so be it yield, the strangers shall
swallow it up.
For they
sow the wind, and they shall
reap the
whirlwind. There is no
standing grain; what
sprouts fails to yield flour. Even if it should produce, the foreigners would
swallow it up.
Neither shall he stand that handleth the bow; and he that is swift of foot shall not deliver himself: neither shall he that rideth the horse deliver himself.
The archer will not
stand his ground, the fleet of foot will not escape, and the
horseman will not save his life.
Thus he shewed me: and, behold, the Lord stood upon a wall made by a plumbline, with a plumbline in his hand.
This is what He showed me: Behold, the Lord was
standing by a wall true to
plumb, with a
plumb line in His hand.
I saw the LORD
standing upon the altar: and he said,
Smite the
lintel of the door, that the posts may
shake: and cut them in the head, all of them; and I will
slay the last of them with the sword: he that fleeth of them shall not
flee away, and he that escapeth of them shall not be delivered.
I saw the Lord
standing beside the altar, and He said: “Strike the tops of the pillars so that the thresholds
shake.
Topple them on the heads of all the people, and I will kill the rest with the sword. None of those who
flee will get away; none of the fugitives will escape.
Neither shouldest thou have stood in the
crossway, to cut off those of his that did escape; neither shouldest thou have delivered up those of his that did remain in the day of distress.
Nor should you stand at the crossroads to cut off their fugitives, nor deliver up their survivors in the day of their distress.
Pass ye away, thou inhabitant of Saphir, having thy shame naked: the inhabitant of Zaanan came not forth in the
mourning of Beth-ezel; he shall receive of you his
standing.
Depart in shameful nakedness, O dwellers of Shaphir. The dwellers of Zaanan will not come out. Beth-ezel is in
mourning; its support is taken from you.
