On the
morrow, because he would have known the certainty wherefore he was accused of the Jews, he loosed him from his bands, and commanded the chief priests and all their council to appear, and brought Paul down, and set him before them.
The next day the commander, wanting to learn the real reason Paul was accused by the Jews, released him and ordered the chief priests and the whole
Sanhedrin to
assemble. Then he brought Paul down and had him
stand before them.
And the high priest
Ananias commanded them that stood by him to
smite him on the mouth.
At this, the high priest
Ananias ordered those
standing near Paul to strike him on the mouth.
And they that stood by said, Revilest thou God’s high priest?
But those
standing nearby said, “How
dare you
insult the high priest of God!”
Except it be for this one voice, that I
cried standing among them, Touching the resurrection of the dead I am called in question by you this day.
unless it was this one thing I called out as I stood in their presence: ‘It is concerning the resurrection of the dead that I am on trial before you
today.’”
But
Festus, willing to do the Jews a pleasure, answered Paul, and said,
Wilt thou go up to Jerusalem, and there be judged of these things before me?
But
Festus, wishing to do the Jews a favor, said to Paul, “Are you willing to go up to Jerusalem to
stand trial before me on these charges?”
Then said Paul, I stand at Caesar’s judgment seat, where I ought to be judged: to the Jews have I done no wrong, as thou very well knowest.
Paul replied, “I am
standing before the judgment seat of Caesar, where I ought to be tried. I have done nothing wrong to the Jews, as you
yourself know very well.
I think myself happy, king
Agrippa, because I shall answer for myself this day before thee touching all the things
whereof I am accused of the Jews:
“King
Agrippa, I consider myself fortunate to
stand before you
today to defend myself against all the accusations of the Jews,
And now I stand and am judged for the hope of the promise made of God unto our fathers:
And now I stand on trial because of my hope in the promise that God made to our fathers,
But rise, and stand upon thy feet: for I have appeared unto thee for this purpose, to make thee a minister and a witness both of these things which thou hast seen, and of those things in the which I will appear unto thee;
‘But get up and
stand on your feet. For I have appeared to you to
appoint you as a servant and as a witness of what you have seen from Me and what I will show you.
Having therefore obtained help of God, I continue unto this day, witnessing both to small and great, saying none other things than those which the prophets and Moses did say should come:
But I have had God’s help to this day, and I
stand here to
testify to small and great alike. I am saying nothing beyond what the prophets and Moses said would happen:
Saying, Fear not, Paul; thou must be brought before Caesar: and, lo, God hath given thee all them that sail with thee.
and said, ‘Do not be afraid, Paul; you must stand before Caesar. And look, God has granted you the lives of all who sail with you.’
By whom also we have access by faith into this grace wherein we
stand, and
rejoice in hope of the glory of God.
through whom we have gained access by faith into this grace in which we
stand. And we
rejoice in the hope of the glory of God.
That the righteousness of the law might be fulfilled in us, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit.
so that the righteous standard of the law might be fulfilled in us, who do not walk according to the flesh but according to the Spirit.
(For the children being not yet born, neither having done any good or evil, that the purpose of God according to election might stand, not of works, but of him that calleth;)
Yet before the twins were born or had done anything good or bad, in order that God’s plan of election might stand,
Well; because of unbelief they were broken off, and thou standest by faith. Be not highminded, but fear:
That is correct: They were broken off because of unbelief, but you
stand by faith. Do not be
arrogant, but be afraid.
Who art thou that judgest another man’s servant? to his own master he
standeth or falleth.
Yea, he shall be
holden up: for God is able to make him
stand.
Who are you to judge someone else’s servant? To his own master he stands or falls. And he will stand, for the Lord is able to make him stand.
But why
dost thou judge thy brother? or why
dost thou set at
nought thy brother? for we shall all
stand before the judgment seat of Christ.
Why, then, do you judge your brother? Or why do you
belittle your brother? For we will all
stand before God’s judgment seat.
For ye see your calling, brethren, how that not many wise men after the flesh, not many mighty, not many noble, are called:
Brothers, consider the time of your calling: Not many of you were wise by human standards; not many were powerful; not many were of noble birth.
That your faith should not stand in the wisdom of men, but in the power of God.
so that your faith would not rest on men’s wisdom, but on God’s power.
If then ye have judgments of things pertaining to this life, set them to judge who are least esteemed in the church.
So if you need to settle
everyday matters, do you
appoint as judges those of no
standing in the church?
Nevertheless he that
standeth stedfast in his heart, having no necessity, but hath power over his own will, and hath so decreed in his heart that he will keep his virgin, doeth well.
But the man who is firmly established in his heart and under no
constraint, with control over his will and
resolve in his heart not to marry the virgin, he will do well.
Wherefore, if meat make my brother to
offend, I will eat no flesh while the world
standeth, lest I make my brother to
offend.
Therefore, if what I eat causes my brother to
stumble, I will never eat meat again, so that I will not cause him to
stumble.
Wherefore let him that thinketh he
standeth take
heed lest he fall.
So the one who thinks he is standing firm should be careful not to fall.
There hath no
temptation taken you but such as is common to man: but God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be
tempted above that ye are able; but will with the
temptation also make a way to escape, that ye may be able to bear it.
No
temptation has seized you except what is common to man. And God is faithful; He will not let you be
tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are
tempted, He will also provide an escape, so that you can
stand up under it.
Moreover, brethren, I declare unto you the gospel which I preached unto you, which also ye have received, and wherein ye stand;
Now, brothers, I want to remind you of the gospel I preached to you, which you received, and in which you stand firm.
And why
stand we in
jeopardy every hour?
And why do we
endanger ourselves every hour?
Watch ye,
stand fast in the faith,
quit you like men, be strong.
Be on the
alert.
Stand firm in the faith. Be men of courage. Be strong.
When I therefore was thus minded, did I use lightness? or the things that I purpose, do I purpose according to the flesh, that with me there should be
yea yea, and
nay nay?
When I
planned this, did I do it
carelessly? Or do I make my plans by human
standards, so as to say “
Yes,
yes” when I really mean “No, no”?
Not for that we have dominion over your faith, but are helpers of your joy: for by faith ye stand.
Not that we lord it over your faith, but we are fellow workers with you for your joy, because it is by faith that you stand firm.
For to this end also did I write, that I might know the proof of you, whether ye be
obedient in all things.
My purpose in writing you was to see if you would
stand the test and be
obedient in everything.
I desire to be present with you now, and to change my voice; for I stand in doubt of you.
how I wish I could be with you now and change my tone, because I am
perplexed about you.
For this
Agar is mount
Sinai in Arabia, and answereth to Jerusalem which now is, and is in
bondage with her children.
Now
Hagar stands for Mount
Sinai in Arabia and corresponds to the present-day Jerusalem, because she is in slavery with her children.
It is for freedom that Christ has set us free.
Stand firm, then, and do not be
encumbered once more by a yoke of slavery.
Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil.
Put on the full
armor of God, so that you can make your
stand against the devil’s schemes.
Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to
withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to
stand.
Therefore take up the full
armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you will be able to
stand your ground, and having done everything, to
stand.
Stand therefore, having your loins
girt about with truth, and having on the
breastplate of righteousness;
Only let your conversation be as it becometh the gospel of Christ: that whether I come and see you, or else be absent, I may hear of your affairs, that ye
stand fast in one spirit, with one mind
striving together for the faith of the gospel;
Nevertheless, conduct
yourselves in a manner worthy of the gospel of Christ. Then, whether I come and see you or only hear about you in my absence, I will know that you
stand firm in one spirit,
contending side by side for the faith of the gospel,
Therefore, my brethren
dearly beloved and longed for, my joy and crown, so
stand fast in the Lord, my
dearly beloved.
Therefore, my brothers, whom I love and long for, my joy and crown, that is how you must stand firm in the Lord, my beloved.
Epaphras, who is one of you, a servant of Christ, saluteth you, always labouring
fervently for you in prayers, that ye may
stand perfect and complete in all the will of God.
Epaphras, who is one of you and a servant of Christ Jesus, sends you greetings. He is always
wrestling in prayer for you, so that you may
stand mature and fully
assured in the full will of God.
For now we live, if ye stand fast in the Lord.
For now we can go on living, as long as you are standing firm in the Lord.
Therefore, brethren, stand fast, and hold the traditions which ye have been taught, whether by word, or our epistle.
Therefore, brothers,
stand firm and
cling to the traditions we taught you, whether by speech or by letter.
For they that have used the office of a
deacon well purchase to themselves a good degree, and great boldness in the faith which is in Christ Jesus.
For those who have served well as deacons acquire for themselves a high standing and great confidence in the faith that is in Christ Jesus.
Them that sin
rebuke before all, that others also may fear.
But those who
persist in sin should be
rebuked in front of
everyone, so that the others will
stand in fear of sin.
Nevertheless the foundation of God standeth sure, having this seal, The Lord knoweth them that are his. And, Let every one that nameth the name of Christ depart from iniquity.
Nevertheless, God’s firm foundation
stands, bearing this seal: “The Lord knows those who are His,” and, “
Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord must turn away from iniquity.”
Let us therefore fear, lest, a promise being left us of entering into his rest, any of you should seem to come short of it.
Therefore, while the promise of entering His rest still stands, let us be careful that none of you be deemed to have fallen short of it.
The Holy Ghost this
signifying, that the way into the holiest of all was not yet made manifest, while as the first tabernacle was yet
standing:
By this arrangement the Holy Spirit was showing that the way into the Most Holy Place had not yet been disclosed as long as the first tabernacle was still standing.
And every priest
standeth daily ministering and offering
oftentimes the same sacrifices, which can never take away sins:
Day after day every priest stands to minister and to offer again and again the same sacrifices, which can never take away sins.
And ye have respect to him that weareth the gay clothing, and say unto him, Sit thou here in a good place; and say to the poor,
Stand thou there, or sit here under my
footstool:
If you
lavish attention on the man in fine clothes and say, “Here is a seat of honor,” but say to the poor man, “You must
stand” or “Sit at my feet,”
Grudge not one against another, brethren, lest ye be condemned: behold, the judge
standeth before the door.
Do not
complain about one another, brothers, so that you will not be judged. Look, the Judge is
standing at the door!
But the word of the Lord endureth for ever. And this is the word which by the gospel is preached unto you.
but the word of the Lord
stands forever.” And this is the word that was proclaimed to you.
Wherefore also it is contained in the scripture, Behold, I lay in
Sion a chief corner stone,
elect, precious: and he that believeth on him shall not be confounded.
For it
stands in Scripture: “See, I lay in
Zion a stone, a chosen and precious cornerstone; and the one who believes in Him will never be put to shame.”
Whom resist
stedfast in the faith, knowing that the same afflictions are accomplished in your brethren that are in the world.
Resist him, standing firm in your faith and in the knowledge that your brothers throughout the world are undergoing the same kinds of suffering.
By
Silvanus, a faithful brother unto you, as I suppose, I have written briefly,
exhorting, and
testifying that this is the true grace of God wherein ye
stand.
Through
Silvanus, whom I regard as a faithful brother, I have written to you briefly,
encouraging you and
testifying that this is the true grace of God.
Stand firm in it.
For this they willingly are ignorant of, that by the word of God the heavens were of old, and the earth standing out of the water and in the water:
But they
deliberately overlook the fact that long ago by God’s word the heavens existed and the earth was formed out of water and by water,
Ye therefore, beloved, seeing ye know these things before,
beware lest ye also, being led away with the error of the wicked, fall from your own
stedfastness.
Therefore, beloved, since you already know these things, be on your guard so that you will not be carried away by the error of the lawless and fall from your secure standing.
Behold, I
stand at the door, and
knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will
sup with him, and he with me.
Behold, I
stand at the door and
knock. If
anyone hears My voice and opens the door, I will come in and
dine with him, and he with Me.
After this I looked, and, behold, a door was opened in heaven: and the first voice which I heard was as it were of a
trumpet talking with me; which said, Come up
hither, and I will
shew thee things which must be
hereafter.
After this I looked and saw a door
standing open in heaven. And the voice I had previously heard speak to me like a
trumpet was saying, “Come up here, and I will show you what must happen after these things.”
And immediately I was in the spirit: and, behold, a throne was set in heaven, and one sat on the throne.
At once I was in the Spirit, and I saw a throne standing in heaven, with someone seated on it.
And I
beheld, and, lo, in the midst of the throne and of the four beasts, and in the midst of the elders, stood a Lamb as it had been slain, having seven horns and seven eyes, which are the seven Spirits of God sent forth into all the earth.
Then I saw a Lamb who appeared to have been slain,
standing in the center of the throne,
encircled by the four living creatures and the elders. The Lamb had seven horns and seven eyes, which represent the seven Spirits of God sent out into all the earth.
For the great day of his wrath is come; and who shall be able to stand?
For the great day of Their wrath has come, and who is able to
withstand it?”
And after these things I saw four angels standing on the four corners of the earth, holding the four winds of the earth, that the wind should not blow on the earth, nor on the sea, nor on any tree.
After this I saw four angels standing at the four corners of the earth, holding back its four winds so that no wind would blow on land or sea or on any tree.
After this I
beheld, and, lo, a great multitude, which no man could number, of all nations, and kindreds, and people, and tongues, stood before the throne, and before the Lamb, clothed with white robes, and palms in their hands;
After this I looked and saw a multitude too large to count, from every nation and tribe and people and tongue, standing before the throne and before the Lamb. They were wearing white robes and holding palm branches in their hands.
And I saw the seven angels which stood before God; and to them were given seven
trumpets.
And I saw the seven angels who
stand before God, and they were given seven
trumpets.
And the angel which I saw stand upon the sea and upon the earth lifted up his hand to heaven,
Then the angel I had seen standing on the sea and on the land lifted up his right hand to heaven.
And the voice which I heard from heaven spake unto me again, and said, Go and take the little book which is open in the hand of the angel which standeth upon the sea and upon the earth.
Then the voice that I had heard from heaven spoke to me again, saying, “Go, take the small
scroll that lies open in the hand of the angel
standing on the sea and on the land.”
These are the two olive trees, and the two candlesticks standing before the God of the earth.
These witnesses are the two olive trees and the two lampstands that stand before the Lord of the earth.
And I looked, and, lo, a Lamb stood on the mount
Sion, and with him an hundred forty and four thousand, having his Father’s name written in their foreheads.
Then I looked and saw the Lamb
standing on Mount
Zion, and with Him 144,000 who had His name and His Father’s name written on their foreheads.
And I saw as it were a sea of glass mingled with fire: and them that had
gotten the victory over the beast, and over his image, and over his mark, and over the number of his name,
stand on the sea of glass, having the harps of God.
And I saw something like a sea of glass mixed with fire, beside which stood those who had conquered the beast and its image and the number of its name. They were holding harps from God,
Standing afar off for the fear of her
torment, saying,
Alas,
alas, that great city Babylon, that mighty city! for in one hour is thy judgment come.
In fear of her
torment, they will
stand at a distance and cry out: “
Woe,
woe to the great city, the mighty city of Babylon! For in a single hour your judgment has come.”
The merchants of these things, which were made rich by her, shall
stand afar off for the fear of her
torment,
weeping and
wailing,
The merchants who sold these things and grew their wealth from her will
stand at a distance, in fear of her
torment. They will
weep and
mourn,
For in one hour so great riches is come to
nought. And every
shipmaster, and all the company in ships, and sailors, and as many as trade by sea, stood
afar off,
For in a single hour such
fabulous wealth has been destroyed!” Every
shipmaster,
passenger, and
sailor, and all who make their living from the sea, will
stand at a distance
And I saw heaven opened, and behold a white horse; and he that sat upon him was called Faithful and True, and in righteousness he
doth judge and make war.
Then I saw heaven standing open, and there before me was a white horse. And its rider is called Faithful and True. With righteousness He judges and wages war.
And I saw an angel
standing in the sun; and he
cried with a loud voice, saying to all the fowls that fly in the midst of heaven, Come and gather
yourselves together unto the
supper of the great God;
Then I saw an angel
standing in the sun, and he
cried out in a loud voice to all the birds flying overhead, “Come, gather together for the great
supper of God,
And I saw the dead, small and great, stand before God; and the books were opened: and another book was opened, which is the book of life: and the dead were judged out of those things which were written in the books, according to their works.
And I saw the dead, great and small, standing before the throne. And there were open books, and one of them was the Book of Life. And the dead were judged according to their deeds, as recorded in the books.
According as David the king of Israel prescribed, and according to the
magnificence of Solomon his son: and
standing in the temple according to the several dignity of the families of you the Levites, who minister in the presence of your brethren the children of Israel,
Behold, now are we before thee in our
iniquities, for we cannot
stand any longer by reason of these things before thee.
But
forasmuch as the people are many, and it is foul weather, so that we cannot
stand without, and this is not a work of a day or two, seeing our sin in these things is spread far:
Arise up and stand, behold the number of those that be sealed in the feast of the Lord;
And he said unto me,
Stand up upon the right side, and I shall
expound the
similitude unto thee.
So he answered and said unto me, Stand up upon thy feet, and hear a mighty sounding voice.
And it shall be as it were a great motion; but the place where thou standest shall not be moved.
At that time shall friends fight one against another like enemies, and the earth shall stand in fear with those that dwell therein, the springs of the fountains shall stand still, and in three hours they shall not run.
But judgment only shall remain, truth shall stand, and faith shall wax strong:
For in the place wherein the Highest beginneth to
shew his city, there can no man’s building be able to
stand.
That after the time of that kingdom there shall arise great strivings, and it shall
stand in
peril of failing: nevertheless it shall not then fall, but shall be restored again to his beginning.
But he shall
stand upon the top of the mount
Sion.
For the sword and their destruction draweth
nigh, and one people shall
stand up and fight against another, and swords in their hands.
For there shall be
sedition among men, and
invading one another; they shall not regard their kings nor princes, and the course of their actions shall
stand in their power.
The beginning of sorrows and great mournings; the beginning of famine and great death; the beginning of wars, and the powers shall stand in fear; the beginning of evils! what shall I do when these evils shall come?
And when Achior had finished these sayings, all the people
standing round about the tent
murmured, and the chief men of Holofernes, and all that dwelt by the sea side, and in Moab, spake that he should kill him.
For with them we will
tread them under foot, and their mountains shall be
drunken with their blood, and their fields shall be filled with their dead bodies, and their footsteps shall not be able to
stand before us, for they shall utterly perish, saith king Nabuchodonosor, lord of all the earth: for he said, None of my words shall be in vain.
And now who are ye that have
tempted God this day, and
stand instead of God among the children of men?
Ye shall stand this night in the gate, and I will go forth with my waitingwoman: and within the days that ye have promised to deliver the city to our enemies the Lord will visit Israel by mine hand.
For thy power
standeth not in multitude nor thy might in strong men: for thou art a God of the
afflicted, an helper of the
oppressed, an
upholder of the weak, a
protector of the
forlorn, a saviour of them that are without hope.
Thus they went forth to the gate of the city of Bethulia, and found standing there Ozias and the ancients of the city, Chabris and Charmis.
And when thou
standest before him, be not afraid in thine heart, but
shew unto him according to thy word; and he will
entreat thee well.
Now
Judith had commanded her
maid to
stand without her
bedchamber, and to wait for her. coming forth, as she did daily: for she said she would go forth to her prayers, and she spake to Bagoas according to the same purpose.
So all went forth and none was left in the
bedchamber, neither little nor great. Then
Judith,
standing by his bed, said in her heart, O Lord God of all power, look at this present upon the works of mine hands for the
exaltation of Jerusalem.
