Thus speaketh the LORD God of Israel, saying, Write thee all the words that I have spoken unto thee in a book.
“This is what the LORD, the God of Israel, says: ‘Write in a book all the words that I have spoken to you.
For, lo, the days come, saith the LORD, that I will bring again the captivity of my people Israel and Judah, saith the LORD: and I will cause them to return to the land that I gave to their fathers, and they shall possess it.
For behold, the days are coming, declares the LORD, when I will restore from captivity My people Israel and Judah, declares the LORD. I will restore them to the land that I gave to their fathers, and they will possess it.’”
And these are the words that the LORD spake concerning Israel and concerning Judah.
These are the words that the LORD spoke concerning Israel and Judah.
For thus saith
the LORD; We have heard a voice of
trembling, of fear, and not of peace.
Yes, this is what
the LORD says: “A cry of
panic is heard— a cry of terror, not of peace.
Ask ye now, and see whether a man
doth travail with child? wherefore do I see every man with his hands on his loins, as a woman in
travail, and all faces are turned into paleness?
Ask now, and see: Can a male give birth? Why then do I see every man with his hands on his stomach like a woman in labor and every face turned pale?
Alas! for that day is great, so that none is like it: it is even
the time of Jacob’s trouble; but he shall be saved out of it.
How
awful that day will be! None will be like it! It is
the time of Jacob’s distress, but he will be saved out of it.
For it shall come to pass in that day, saith
the LORD of hosts, that I will break his yoke from off thy neck, and will
burst thy bonds, and strangers shall no more serve
themselves of him:
On that day, declares
the LORD of Hosts, I will break
the yoke off
their necks and
tear off
their bonds, and no longer will strangers
enslave them.
But they shall serve the LORD their God, and David their king, whom I will raise up unto them.
Instead, they will serve the LORD their God and David their king, whom I will raise up for them.
Therefore fear thou not, O my servant Jacob, saith
the LORD; neither be dismayed, O Israel: for, lo, I will save
thee from
afar, and thy seed from
the land of
their captivity; and Jacob shall return, and shall be in rest, and be quiet, and none shall make him afraid.
As for you, O Jacob My servant, do not be afraid, declares the LORD, and do not be dismayed, O Israel. For I will surely save you out of a distant place, your descendants from the land of their captivity! Jacob will return to quiet and ease, with no one to make him afraid.
For I am with
thee, saith
the LORD, to save
thee: though I make a full end of all nations
whither I have scattered
thee, yet will I not make a full end of
thee: but I will correct
thee in measure, and will not leave
thee altogether unpunished.
For I am with you to save you, declares the LORD. Though I will completely destroy all the nations to which I have scattered you, I will not completely destroy you. Yet I will discipline you justly, and will by no means leave you unpunished.”
For thus saith
the LORD, Thy
bruise is incurable, and thy wound is
grievous.
For this is what
the LORD says: “Your injury is incurable; your wound is
grievous.
There is none to
plead thy cause, that thou mayest be bound up: thou hast no
healing medicines.
There is no one to
plead your cause, no remedy for your sores, no recovery for you.
All thy lovers have forgotten
thee;
they seek
thee not; for I have wounded
thee with
the wound of an enemy, with
the chastisement of a cruel one, for
the multitude of thine iniquity; because thy sins were increased.
All your lovers have forgotten you; they no longer seek you, for I have struck you as an enemy would, with the discipline of someone cruel, because of your great iniquity and your numerous sins.
Why criest thou for thine
affliction? thy sorrow is incurable for
the multitude of thine iniquity: because thy sins were increased, I have done
these things unto
thee.
Why do you cry out over your wound? Your pain has no cure! Because of your great iniquity and your numerous sins I have done these things to you.
Therefore all
they that
devour thee shall be
devoured; and all thine
adversaries, every one of
them, shall go into captivity; and
they that
spoil thee shall be a
spoil, and all that prey upon
thee will I give for a prey.
For I will restore health unto
thee, and I will
heal thee of thy wounds, saith
the LORD; because
they called
thee an Outcast, saying, This is
Zion, whom no man seeketh after.
But I will restore your health and
heal your wounds, declares
the LORD, because
they call you an outcast,
Zion, for whom no one cares.”
Thus saith
the LORD; Behold, I will bring again
the captivity of Jacob’s tents, and have mercy on his dwellingplaces; and
the city shall be builded upon her own
heap, and
the palace shall remain after
the manner
thereof.
This is what
the LORD says: “I will restore
the fortunes of Jacob’s tents and have
compassion on his dwellings. And
the city will be rebuilt on her own ruins, and
the palace will stand in its rightful place.
And out of
them shall proceed
thanksgiving and
the voice of
them that make
merry: and I will multiply
them, and
they shall not be few; I will also
glorify them, and
they shall not be small.
Thanksgiving will proceed from
them, a sound of
celebration. I will multiply
them, and
they will not be decreased; I will honor
them, and
they will not be
belittled.
Their children also shall be as
aforetime, and
their congregation shall be established before me, and I will
punish all that
oppress them.
Their children will be as in days of old, and
their congregation will be established before Me; and I will
punish all
their oppressors.
And their nobles shall be of themselves, and their governor shall proceed from the midst of them; and I will cause him to draw near, and he shall approach unto me: for who is this that engaged his heart to approach unto me? saith the LORD.
Their leader will be one of
their own, and
their ruler will arise from
their midst. And I will bring him near, and he will approach Me, for who would
dare on his own to approach Me?” declares
the LORD.
Behold,
the whirlwind of
the LORD goeth forth with
fury, a continuing
whirlwind: it shall fall with pain upon
the head of
the wicked.
Behold,
the storm of
the LORD has gone out with
fury, a
whirlwind swirling down upon
the heads of
the wicked.
The fierce anger of the LORD shall not return, until he have done it, and until he have performed the intents of his heart: in the latter days ye shall consider it.
The fierce anger of the LORD will not turn back until He has fully accomplished the purposes of His heart. In the days to come you will understand this.
At the same time, saith the LORD, will I be the God of all the families of Israel, and they shall be my people.
“At that time,” declares the LORD, “I will be the God of all the families of Israel, and they will be My people.”
Thus saith the LORD, The people which were left of the sword found grace in the wilderness; even Israel, when I went to cause him to rest.
This is what the LORD says: “The people who survived the sword found favor in the wilderness when Israel went to find rest.”
The LORD hath appeared of old unto me, saying,
Yea, I have loved
thee with an
everlasting love:
therefore with lovingkindness have I drawn
thee.
The LORD appeared to us in
the past, saying: “I have loved you with an
everlasting love;
therefore I have drawn you with loving devotion.
Again I will build
thee, and thou shalt be built, O virgin of Israel: thou shalt again be adorned with thy tabrets, and shalt go forth in
the dances of
them that make
merry.
Again I will build you, and you will be rebuilt, O Virgin Israel. Again you will take up your tambourines and go out in joyful dancing.
Thou shalt yet plant vines upon the mountains of Samaria: the planters shall plant, and shall eat them as common things.
Again you will plant vineyards on the hills of Samaria; the farmers will plant and enjoy the fruit.
For
there shall be a day, that
the watchmen upon
the mount Ephraim shall cry, Arise ye, and let us go up to
Zion unto
the LORD our God.
For
there will be a day when
watchmen will call out on
the hills of Ephraim, ‘Arise, let us go up to
Zion, to
the LORD our God!’”
For thus saith
the LORD; Sing with
gladness for Jacob, and
shout among
the chief of
the nations:
publish ye, praise ye, and say, O LORD, save thy people,
the remnant of Israel.
For this is what
the LORD says: “Sing with joy for Jacob;
shout for
the foremost of
the nations! Make your praises heard, and say, ‘O LORD, save Your people,
the remnant of Israel!’
Behold, I will bring
them from
the north country, and gather
them from
the coasts of
the earth, and with
them the blind and
the lame,
the woman with child and her that travaileth with child together: a great company shall return thither.
Behold, I will bring
them from
the land of
the north and gather
them from
the farthest parts of
the earth, including
the blind and
the lame,
expectant mothers and women in labor.
They will return as a great assembly!
They shall come with
weeping, and with supplications will I lead
them: I will cause
them to walk by
the rivers of waters in a straight way, wherein
they shall not
stumble: for I am a father to Israel, and Ephraim is my
firstborn.
They will come with
weeping, and by
their supplication I will lead
them; I will make
them walk beside streams of waters, on a level path where
they will not
stumble. For I am Israel’s Father, and Ephraim is My
firstborn.”
Hear
the word of
the LORD, O ye nations, and declare it in
the isles
afar off, and say, He that scattered Israel will gather him, and keep him, as a
shepherd doth his flock.
Hear, O nations,
the word of
the LORD, and
proclaim it in distant coastlands: “
The One who scattered Israel will gather
them and keep
them as a
shepherd keeps his flock.
For
the LORD hath redeemed Jacob, and
ransomed him from
the hand of him that was stronger than he.
For
the LORD has
ransomed Jacob and redeemed him from
the hand that had overpowered him.
Therefore they shall come and sing in
the height of
Zion, and shall flow together to
the goodness of
the LORD, for wheat, and for wine, and for oil, and for
the young of
the flock and of
the herd: and
their soul shall be as a watered garden; and
they shall not sorrow any more at all.
They will come and
shout for joy on
the heights of
Zion;
they will be
radiant over
the bounty of
the LORD—
the grain, new wine, and oil, and
the young of
the flocks and herds.
Their life will be like a well-watered garden, and never again will
they languish.
Then shall
the virgin
rejoice in
the dance, both young men and old together: for I will turn
their mourning into joy, and will comfort
them, and make
them rejoice from
their sorrow.
Then the maidens will
rejoice with dancing, young men and old as well. I will turn
their mourning into joy, and give
them comfort and joy for
their sorrow.
And I will
satiate the soul of
the priests with fatness, and my people shall be satisfied with my goodness, saith
the LORD.
I will fill the souls of the priests abundantly, and will fill My people with My goodness,” declares the LORD.
Thus saith
the LORD; A voice was heard in
Ramah,
lamentation, and bitter
weeping;
Rahel weeping for her children refused to be comforted for her children, because
they were not.
This is what
the LORD says: “A voice is heard in
Ramah,
mourning and great
weeping,
Rachel weeping for her children, and refusing to be comforted, because
they are no more.”
Thus saith
the LORD;
Refrain thy voice from
weeping, and thine eyes from tears: for thy work shall be rewarded, saith
the LORD; and
they shall come again from
the land of
the enemy.
This is what
the LORD says: “Keep your voice from
weeping and your eyes from tears, for
the reward for your work will come, declares
the LORD.
Then your children will return from
the land of
the enemy.
And there is hope in thine end, saith the LORD, that thy children shall come again to their own border.
So there is hope for your future, declares the LORD, and your children will return to their own land.
I have surely heard Ephraim
bemoaning himself thus; Thou hast
chastised me, and I was
chastised, as a
bullock unaccustomed to
the yoke: turn thou me, and I shall be turned; for thou art
the LORD my God.
I have surely heard Ephraim’s
moaning: ‘You disciplined me severely, like an untrained
calf. Restore me, that I may return, for You are
the LORD my God.
Is Ephraim my
dear son? is he a pleasant child? for since I spake against him, I do earnestly remember him still:
therefore my
bowels are troubled for him; I will surely have mercy upon him, saith
the LORD.
Is not Ephraim a precious son to Me, a delightful child? Though I often speak against him, I still remember him.
Therefore My heart yearns for him; I have great
compassion for him,” declares
the LORD.
Set
thee up waymarks, make
thee high heaps: set thine heart toward
the highway, even
the way which thou wentest: turn again, O virgin of Israel, turn again to
these thy cities.
“Set up
the roadmarks, establish
the signposts. Keep
the highway in mind,
the road you have traveled. Return, O Virgin Israel, return to
these cities of yours.
How long
wilt thou go about, O thou
backsliding daughter? for
the LORD hath created a new thing in
the earth, A woman shall compass a man.
How long will you
wander, O faithless daughter? For
the LORD has created a new thing in
the land— a woman will shelter a man.”
Thus saith
the LORD of hosts,
the God of Israel; As yet
they shall use this speech in
the land of Judah and in
the cities
thereof, when I shall bring again
their captivity;
The LORD
bless thee, O
habitation of justice, and mountain of
holiness.
This is what
the LORD of Hosts,
the God of Israel, says: “When I restore
them from captivity,
they will once again speak this word in
the land of Judah and in its cities: ‘May
the LORD
bless you, O righteous dwelling place, O holy mountain.’
And
there shall dwell in Judah itself, and in all
the cities
thereof together,
husbandmen, and
they that go forth with flocks.
And Judah and all its cities will dwell together in the land, the farmers and those who move with the flocks,
Behold,
the days come, saith
the LORD, that I will
sow the house of Israel and
the house of Judah with
the seed of man, and with
the seed of beast.
“
The days are coming,” declares
the LORD, “when I will
sow the house of Israel and
the house of Judah with
the seed of man and of beast.
And it shall come to pass, that like as I have watched over
them, to
pluck up, and to break down, and to throw down, and to destroy, and to
afflict; so will I watch over
them, to build, and to plant, saith
the LORD.
Just as I watched over
them to
uproot and
tear down, to
demolish, destroy, and bring
disaster, so I will watch over
them to build and to plant,” declares
the LORD.
In those days
they shall say no more,
The fathers have eaten a
sour grape, and
the children’s teeth are set on edge.
“In those days, it will no longer be said: ‘
The fathers have eaten
sour grapes, and
the teeth of
the children are set on edge.’
But every one shall die for his own iniquity: every man that eateth
the sour grape, his teeth shall be set on edge.
Instead, each will die for his own iniquity. If
anyone eats
the sour grapes, his own teeth will be set on edge.
Behold, the days come, saith the LORD, that I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel, and with the house of Judah:
Behold, the days are coming, declares the LORD, when I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel and with the house of Judah.
Not according to
the covenant that I made with
their fathers in
the day that I took
them by
the hand to bring
them out of
the land of Egypt; which my covenant
they brake, although I was an husband unto
them, saith
the LORD:
It will not be like the covenant I made with their fathers when I took them by the hand to lead them out of the land of Egypt— a covenant they broke, though I was a husband to them,” declares the LORD.
But this shall be the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel; After those days, saith the LORD, I will put my law in their inward parts, and write it in their hearts; and will be their God, and they shall be my people.
“But this is
the covenant I will make with
the house of Israel after those days, declares
the LORD. I will put My law in
their minds and
inscribe it on
their hearts. And I will be
their God, and
they will be My people.
And
they shall teach no more every man his neighbour, and every man his brother, saying, Know
the LORD: for
they shall all know me, from
the least of
them unto
the greatest of
them, saith
the LORD; for I will
forgive their iniquity, and I will remember
their sin no more.
No longer will each man teach his
neighbor or his brother, saying, ‘Know
the LORD,’ because
they will all know Me, from
the least of
them to
the greatest, declares
the LORD. For I will
forgive their iniquities and will remember
their sins no more.”
Thus saith
the LORD, which giveth
the sun for a light by day, and
the ordinances of
the moon and of
the stars for a light by night, which divideth
the sea when
the waves
thereof roar;
The LORD of hosts is his name:
Thus says
the LORD, who gives
the sun for light by day, who sets in order
the moon and stars for light by night, who stirs up
the sea so that its waves
roar—
the LORD of Hosts is His name:
If those ordinances depart from before me, saith the LORD, then the seed of Israel also shall cease from being a nation before me for ever.
“Only if this fixed order departed from My presence, declares the LORD, would Israel’s descendants ever cease to be a nation before Me.”
Thus saith the LORD; If heaven above can be measured, and the foundations of the earth searched out beneath, I will also cast off all the seed of Israel for all that they have done, saith the LORD.
This is what
the LORD says: “Only if
the heavens above could be measured and
the foundations of
the earth below searched out would I
reject all of Israel’s descendants because of all
they have done,” declares
the LORD.
Behold, the days come, saith the LORD, that the city shall be built to the LORD from the tower of Hananeel unto the gate of the corner.
“The days are coming,” declares the LORD, “when this city will be rebuilt for Me, from the tower of Hananel to the Corner Gate.
And the measuring line shall yet go forth over against it upon the hill Gareb, and shall compass about to Goath.
The measuring line will once again stretch out straight to the hill of Gareb and then turn toward Goah.
And
the whole valley of
the dead bodies, and of
the ashes, and all
the fields unto
the brook of Kidron, unto
the corner of
the horse gate toward
the east, shall be holy unto
the LORD; it shall not be
plucked up, nor thrown down any more for ever.
The whole valley of
the dead bodies and ashes, and all
the fields as far as
the Kidron Valley, to
the corner of
the Horse Gate to
the east, will be holy to
the LORD. It will never again be uprooted or
demolished.”
The word that came to Jeremiah from
the LORD in
the tenth year of
Zedekiah king of Judah, which was
the eighteenth year of Nebuchadrezzar.
For then the king of Babylon’s army besieged Jerusalem: and Jeremiah the prophet was shut up in the court of the prison, which was in the king of Judah’s house.
At that time
the army of
the king of Babylon was
besieging Jerusalem, and Jeremiah
the prophet was imprisoned in
the courtyard of
the guard, which was in
the palace of
the king of Judah.
For
Zedekiah king of Judah had shut him up, saying, Wherefore
dost thou
prophesy, and say, Thus saith
the LORD, Behold, I will give this city into
the hand of
the king of Babylon, and he shall take it;
For
Zedekiah king of Judah had imprisoned him, saying: “Why are you
prophesying like this? You claim that
the LORD says, ‘Behold, I am about to deliver this city into
the hand of
the king of Babylon, and he will capture it.
And
Zedekiah king of Judah shall not escape out of
the hand of
the Chaldeans, but shall surely be delivered into
the hand of
the king of Babylon, and shall speak with him mouth to mouth, and his eyes shall behold his eyes;
Zedekiah king of Judah will not escape from
the hands of
the Chaldeans, but he will surely be delivered into
the hand of
the king of Babylon, and will speak with him face to face and see him eye to eye.
And he shall lead
Zedekiah to Babylon, and
there shall he be until I visit him, saith
the LORD: though ye fight with
the Chaldeans, ye shall not
prosper?
He will take
Zedekiah to Babylon, where he will stay until I attend to him, declares
the LORD. If you fight against
the Chaldeans, you will not succeed.’”
And Jeremiah said, The word of the LORD came unto me, saying,
Jeremiah replied, “The word of the LORD came to me, saying:
Behold, Hanameel
the son of Shallum thine uncle shall come unto
thee, saying,
Buy thee my field that is in Anathoth: for
the right of
redemption is thine to
buy it.
Behold! Hanamel,
the son of your uncle Shallum, is coming to you to say, ‘
Buy for
yourself my field in Anathoth, for you have
the right of
redemption to
buy it.’
So Hanameel mine uncle’s son came to me in
the court of
the prison according to
the word of
the LORD, and said unto me,
Buy my field, I pray
thee, that is in Anathoth, which is in
the country of Benjamin: for
the right of inheritance is thine, and
the redemption is thine;
buy it for
thyself.
Then I knew that this was
the word of
the LORD.
Then, as
the LORD had said, my cousin Hanamel came to me in
the courtyard of
the guard and urged me, ‘Please
buy my field in Anathoth in
the land of Benjamin, for you own
the right of inheritance and
redemption.
Buy it for
yourself.’”
Then I knew that this was
the word of
the LORD.
And I bought
the field of Hanameel my uncle’s son, that was in Anathoth, and
weighed him
the money, even seventeen shekels of silver.
So I bought
the field in Anathoth from my cousin Hanamel, and I
weighed out seventeen shekels of silver.
And I
subscribed the evidence, and sealed it, and took witnesses, and
weighed him
the money in
the balances.
I signed and sealed
the deed, called in witnesses, and
weighed out
the silver on
the scales.
So I took the evidence of the purchase, both that which was sealed according to the law and custom, and that which was open:
Then I took the deed of purchase—the sealed copy with its terms and conditions, as well as the open copy—
And I gave
the evidence of
the purchase unto
Baruch the son of Neriah,
the son of Maaseiah, in
the sight of Hanameel mine uncle’s son, and in
the presence of
the witnesses that
subscribed the book of
the purchase, before all
the Jews that sat in
the court of
the prison.
and I gave this deed to
Baruch son of Neriah,
the son of Mahseiah, in
the sight of my cousin Hanamel and
the witnesses who were signing
the purchase agreement and all
the Jews sitting in
the courtyard of
the guard.
And I charged
Baruch before
them, saying,
Thus saith
the LORD of hosts,
the God of Israel; Take
these evidences, this evidence of
the purchase, both which is sealed, and this evidence which is open; and put
them in an
earthen vessel, that
they may continue many days.
“This is what
the LORD of Hosts,
the God of Israel, says: Take
these deeds—both
the sealed copy and
the open copy of
the deed of purchase—and put
them in a clay
jar to preserve
them for a long time.
For thus saith the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel; Houses and fields and vineyards shall be possessed again in this land.
For this is what the LORD of Hosts, the God of Israel, says: Houses, fields, and vineyards will again be bought in this land.”
Now when I had delivered
the evidence of
the purchase unto
Baruch the son of Neriah, I prayed unto
the LORD, saying,
After I had given
the deed of purchase to
Baruch son of Neriah, I prayed to
the LORD:
Ah Lord GOD! behold, thou hast made
the heaven and
the earth by thy great power and stretched out arm, and
there is nothing too hard for
thee:
“Oh, Lord GOD! You have made the heavens and the earth by Your great power and outstretched arm. Nothing is too difficult for You!
Thou shewest lovingkindness unto thousands, and recompensest
the iniquity of
the fathers into
the bosom of
their children after
them:
the Great,
the Mighty God,
the LORD of hosts, is his name,
You show loving devotion to thousands but lay the iniquity of the fathers into the laps of their children after them, O great and mighty God whose name is the LORD of Hosts,
Great in counsel, and mighty in work: for thine eyes are open upon all the ways of the sons of men: to give every one according to his ways, and according to the fruit of his doings:
the One great in counsel and mighty in deed, whose eyes are on all the ways of the sons of men, to reward each one according to his ways and according to the fruit of his deeds.
Which hast set signs and wonders in the land of Egypt, even unto this day, and in Israel, and among other men; and hast made thee a name, as at this day;
You performed signs and wonders in
the land of Egypt, and You do so to this very day, both in Israel and among all mankind. And You have made a name for
Yourself, as is
the case to this day.
And hast brought forth thy people Israel out of the land of Egypt with signs, and with wonders, and with a strong hand, and with a stretched out arm, and with great terror;
You brought Your people Israel out of the land of Egypt with signs and wonders, with a strong hand and an outstretched arm, and with great terror.
And hast given
them this land, which thou
didst swear to
their fathers to give
them, a land flowing with milk and honey;
You gave
them this land that You had
sworn to give
their fathers, a land flowing with milk and honey.
And they came in, and possessed it; but they obeyed not thy voice, neither walked in thy law; they have done nothing of all that thou commandedst them to do: therefore thou hast caused all this evil to come upon them:
They came in and possessed it, but
they did not obey Your voice or walk in Your law.
They failed to perform all that You commanded
them to do, and so You have brought upon
them all this
disaster.
Behold
the mounts,
they are come unto
the city to take it; and
the city is given into
the hand of
the Chaldeans, that fight against it, because of
the sword, and of
the famine, and of
the pestilence: and what thou hast spoken is come to pass; and, behold, thou seest it.
See how the siege ramps are mounted against the city to capture it. And by sword and famine and plague, the city has been given into the hands of the Chaldeans who are fighting against it. What You have spoken has happened, as You now see!
And thou hast said unto me, O Lord GOD,
Buy thee the field for money, and take witnesses; for
the city is given into
the hand of
the Chaldeans.
Yet You, O Lord GOD, have said to me, ‘
Buy for
yourself the field with silver and call in witnesses, even though
the city has been delivered into
the hands of
the Chaldeans!’”
Then came the word of the LORD unto Jeremiah, saying,
Then the word of the LORD came to Jeremiah:
Behold, I am the LORD, the God of all flesh: is there any thing too hard for me?
“Behold, I am the LORD, the God of all flesh. Is anything too difficult for Me?
Therefore thus saith the LORD; Behold, I will give this city into the hand of the Chaldeans, and into the hand of Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon, and he shall take it:
Therefore this is what
the LORD says: Behold, I am about to deliver this city into
the hands of
the Chaldeans and of
Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon, who will capture it.
And
the Chaldeans, that fight against this city, shall come and set fire on this city, and burn it with
the houses, upon whose roofs
they have offered incense unto
Baal, and poured out drink offerings unto other gods, to
provoke me to anger.
And
the Chaldeans who are fighting against this city will come in, set it on fire, and burn it, along with
the houses of those who
provoked Me to anger by burning incense to
Baal on
their rooftops and by pouring out drink offerings to other gods.
For
the children of Israel and
the children of Judah have only done evil before me from
their youth: for
the children of Israel have only
provoked me to anger with
the work of
their hands, saith
the LORD.
For
the children of Israel and of Judah have done nothing but evil in My sight from
their youth; indeed,
they have done nothing but
provoke Me to anger by
the work of
their hands, declares
the LORD.
For this city hath been to me as a
provocation of mine anger and of my
fury from
the day that
they built it even unto this day; that I should remove it from before my face,
For this city has
aroused My wrath and
fury from
the day it was built until now.
Therefore I will remove it from My presence
Because of all
the evil of
the children of Israel and of
the children of Judah, which
they have done to
provoke me to anger,
they,
their kings,
their princes,
their priests, and
their prophets, and
the men of Judah, and
the inhabitants of Jerusalem.
because of all
the evil
the children of Israel and of Judah have done to
provoke Me to anger—
they,
their kings,
their officials,
their priests and prophets,
the men of Judah, and
the residents of Jerusalem.
And
they have turned unto me
the back, and not
the face: though I taught
them, rising up early and teaching
them, yet
they have not
hearkened to receive instruction.
They have turned
their backs to Me and not
their faces. Though I taught
them again and again,
they would not
listen or
respond to discipline.
But
they set
their abominations in
the house, which is called by my name, to
defile it.
They have placed
their abominations in
the house that bears My Name, and so have
defiled it.
And
they built
the high places of
Baal, which are in
the valley of
the son of
Hinnom, to cause
their sons and
their daughters to pass through
the fire unto
Molech; which I commanded
them not, neither came it into my mind, that
they should do this
abomination, to cause Judah to sin.
They have built
the high places of
Baal in
the Valley of
Hinnom to make
their sons and daughters pass through
the fire to
Molech—something I never commanded
them, nor had it ever entered My mind, that
they should commit such an
abomination and cause Judah to sin.
And now
therefore thus saith
the LORD,
the God of Israel, concerning this city,
whereof ye say, It shall be delivered into
the hand of
the king of Babylon by
the sword, and by
the famine, and by
the pestilence;
Now therefore, about this city of which you say, ‘It will be delivered into the hand of the king of Babylon by sword and famine and plague,’ this is what the LORD, the God of Israel, says:
Behold, I will gather
them out of all countries,
whither I have driven
them in mine anger, and in my
fury, and in great wrath; and I will bring
them again unto this place, and I will cause
them to dwell safely:
I will surely gather My people from all
the lands to which I have banished
them in My
furious anger and great wrath, and I will return
them to this place and make
them dwell in safety.
And they shall be my people, and I will be their God:
They will be My people, and I will be their God.
And I will give them one heart, and one way, that they may fear me for ever, for the good of them, and of their children after them:
I will give them one heart and one way, so that they will always fear Me for their own good and for the good of their children after them.
