When the priests enter therein, then shall they not go out of the holy place into the utter court, but there they shall lay their garments wherein they minister; for they are holy; and shall put on other garments, and shall approach to those things which are for the people.
Once the priests have entered the holy area, they must not go out into the outer court until they have left behind the garments in which they minister, for these are holy. They are to put on other clothes before they approach the places that are for the people.”
In their setting of their
threshold by my thresholds, and their post by my posts, and the wall between me and them, they have even
defiled my holy name by their abominations that they have committed: wherefore I have consumed them in mine anger.
When they placed their
threshold next to My
threshold and their doorposts beside My doorposts, with only a wall between Me and them, they
defiled My holy name by the abominations they committed.
Therefore I have consumed them in My anger.
And if they be
ashamed of all that they have done,
shew them the form of the house, and the fashion
thereof, and the goings out
thereof, and the comings in
thereof, and all the forms
thereof, and all the ordinances
thereof, and all the forms
thereof, and all the laws
thereof: and write it in their sight, that they may keep the whole form
thereof, and all the ordinances
thereof, and do them.
and if they are
ashamed of all they have done, then make known to them the design of the temple—its arrangement and its exits and entrances—its whole design along with all its statutes, forms, and laws. Write it down in their sight, so that they may keep its complete design and all its statutes and may carry them out.
This is the law of the house; Upon the top of the mountain the whole limit thereof round about shall be most holy. Behold, this is the law of the house.
This is the law of the temple: All its surrounding territory on top of the mountain will be most holy.
Yes, this is the law of the temple.
And these are the measures of the altar after the cubits: The
cubit is a
cubit and an hand breadth; even the bottom shall be a
cubit, and the breadth a
cubit, and the border
thereof by the edge
thereof round about shall be a span: and this shall be the higher place of the altar.
These are the measurements of the altar in long cubits (a
cubit and a
handbreadth): Its
gutter shall be a
cubit deep and a
cubit wide, with a
rim of one span around its edge. And this is the height of the altar:
And the altar shall be twelve cubits long, twelve broad, square in the four squares thereof.
The altar
hearth shall be square at its four corners, twelve cubits long and twelve cubits wide.
And the settle shall be fourteen cubits long and fourteen broad in the four squares
thereof; and the border about it shall be half a
cubit; and the bottom
thereof shall be a
cubit about; and his stairs shall look toward the east.
The
ledge shall also be square, fourteen cubits long and fourteen cubits wide, with a
rim of half a
cubit and a
gutter of a
cubit all around it. The steps of the altar shall face east.”
And he said unto me, Son of man, thus saith the Lord GOD; These are the ordinances of the altar in the day when they shall make it, to offer burnt offerings
thereon, and to
sprinkle blood
thereon.
Then He said to me: “Son of man, this is what the Lord GOD says: ‘These are the statutes for the altar on the day it is constructed, so that burnt offerings may be sacrificed on it and blood may be
sprinkled on it:
And thou shalt take of the blood
thereof, and put it on the four horns of it, and on the four corners of the settle, and upon the border round about: thus shalt thou
cleanse and
purge it.
You are to take some of its blood and put it on the four horns of the altar, on the four corners of the
ledge, and all around the
rim; thus you will
cleanse the altar and make
atonement for it.
Then said the LORD unto me; This gate shall be shut, it shall not be opened, and no man shall enter in by it; because the LORD, the God of Israel, hath entered in by it, therefore it shall be shut.
And the LORD said to me, “This gate is to remain shut. It shall not be opened, and no man shall enter through it, because the LORD, the God of Israel, has entered through it. Therefore it will remain shut.
And the LORD said unto me, Son of man, mark well, and behold with thine eyes, and hear with thine ears all that I say unto thee concerning all the ordinances of the house of the LORD, and all the laws thereof; and mark well the entering in of the house, with every going forth of the sanctuary.
The LORD said to me: “Son of man, pay attention; look carefully with your eyes and
listen closely with your ears to everything I tell you concerning all the statutes and laws of the house of the LORD. Take careful note of the entrance to the temple, along with all the exits of the sanctuary.
Yet they shall be ministers in my sanctuary, having charge at the gates of the house, and ministering to the house: they shall
slay the burnt offering and the sacrifice for the people, and they shall stand before them to minister unto them.
Yet they shall be ministers in My sanctuary, having charge of the gates of the temple and ministering there. They shall slaughter the burnt offerings and other sacrifices for the people and stand before them to minister to them.
Because they ministered unto them before their idols, and caused the house of Israel to fall into iniquity; therefore have I lifted up mine hand against them, saith the Lord GOD, and they shall bear their iniquity.
Because they ministered before their idols and became a
stumbling block of iniquity to the house of Israel,
therefore I
swore with an
uplifted hand concerning them that they would bear the consequences of their iniquity, declares the Lord GOD.
But I will make them keepers of the charge of the house, for all the service thereof, and for all that shall be done therein.
Yet I will
appoint them to keep charge of all the work for the temple and everything to be done in it.
Moreover, when ye shall divide by lot the land for inheritance, ye shall offer an
oblation unto the LORD, an holy portion of the land: the length shall be the length of five and twenty thousand reeds, and the breadth shall be ten thousand. This shall be holy in all the borders
thereof round about.
“When you divide the land by lot as an inheritance, you are to set aside a portion for the LORD, a holy portion of the land 25,000 cubits long and 20,000 cubits wide. This entire tract of land will be holy.
Of this there shall be for the sanctuary five hundred in length, with five hundred in breadth, square round about; and fifty cubits round about for the suburbs thereof.
Within this area there is to be a section for the sanctuary 500 cubits square, with 50 cubits around it for open land.
The
ephah and the bath shall be of one measure, that the bath may contain the tenth part of an homer, and the
ephah the tenth part of an homer: the measure
thereof shall be after the homer.
The
ephah and the bath shall be the same quantity so that the bath will contain a tenth of a homer, and the
ephah a tenth of a homer; the homer will be the standard measure for both.
And when the prince shall enter, he shall go in by the way of the
porch of that gate, and he shall go forth by the way
thereof.
When the prince enters, he shall go in through the
portico of the
gateway, and he shall go out the same way.
Thus saith the Lord GOD; If the prince give a gift unto any of his sons, the inheritance thereof shall be his sons’; it shall be their possession by inheritance.
This is what the Lord GOD says: ‘If the prince gives a gift to any of his sons as an inheritance, it will belong to his descendants. It will become their property by inheritance.
After he brought me through the entry, which was at the side of the gate, into the holy chambers of the priests, which looked toward the north: and, behold, there was a place on the two sides westward.
Then the man brought me through the entrance at the side of the gate into the holy chambers facing north, which belonged to the priests, and he showed me a place there at the far western end
Then he brought me forth into the utter court, and caused me to pass by the four corners of the court; and, behold, in every corner of the court there was a court.
Then he brought me into the outer court and led me around to its four corners, and I saw a separate court in each of its corners.
In the four corners of the court there were courts joined of forty cubits long and thirty broad: these four corners were of one measure.
In the four corners of the outer court there were enclosed courts, each forty cubits long and thirty cubits wide. Each of the four corner areas had the same dimensions.
And there was a row of building round about in them, round about them four, and it was made with boiling places under the rows round about.
Around the inside of each of the four courts was a row of masonry with ovens built at the base of the walls on all sides.
Then brought he me out of the way of the gate northward, and led me about the way without unto the utter gate by the way that looketh eastward; and, behold, there ran out waters on the right side.
Next he brought me out through the north gate and led me around the outside to the outer gate facing east, and
there I saw the water
trickling out from the south side.
Then said he unto me, These waters issue out toward the east country, and go down into the desert, and go into the sea: which being brought forth into the sea, the waters shall be
healed.
And he said to me, “This water flows out to the eastern region and goes down into the Arabah. When it
empties into the Sea, the water
there becomes fresh.
And it shall come to pass, that every thing that liveth, which moveth,
whithersoever the rivers shall come, shall live: and
there shall be a very great multitude of fish, because these waters shall come thither: for they shall be
healed; and every thing shall live
whither the river cometh.
Wherever the river flows,
there will be swarms of living creatures and a great number of fish, because it flows
there and makes the waters fresh; so wherever the river flows, everything will
flourish.
But the
miry places
thereof and the marishes
thereof shall not be
healed; they shall be given to salt.
But the swamps and marshes will not become fresh; they will be left for salt.
And by the river upon the bank
thereof, on this side and on that side, shall grow all trees for meat, whose leaf shall not
fade, neither shall the fruit
thereof be consumed: it shall bring forth new fruit according to his months, because their waters they issued out of the sanctuary: and the fruit
thereof shall be for meat, and the leaf
thereof for medicine.
Along both banks of the river, fruit trees of all kinds will grow. Their leaves will not wither, and their fruit will not fail. Each month they will bear fruit, because the water from the sanctuary flows to them. Their fruit will be used for food and their leaves for
healing.”
And it shall come to pass, that in what tribe the stranger sojourneth, there shall ye give him his inheritance, saith the Lord GOD.
In whatever tribe a foreigner dwells, you are to
assign his inheritance
there,” declares the Lord GOD.
And for them, even for the priests, shall be this holy
oblation; toward the north five and twenty thousand in length, and toward the west ten thousand in breadth, and toward the east ten thousand in breadth, and toward the south five and twenty thousand in length: and the sanctuary of the LORD shall be in the midst
thereof.
This will be the holy portion for the priests. It will be 25,000 cubits long on the north side, 10,000 cubits wide on the west side, 10,000 cubits wide on the east side, and 25,000 cubits long on the south side. In the center will be the sanctuary of the LORD.
And the five thousand, that are left in the breadth over against the five and twenty thousand, shall be a
profane place for the city, for dwelling, and for suburbs: and the city shall be in the midst
thereof.
The remaining area, 5,000 cubits wide and 25,000 cubits long, will be for common use by the city, for houses, and for pastureland. The city will be in the center of it
And these shall be the measures thereof; the north side four thousand and five hundred, and the south side four thousand and five hundred, and on the east side four thousand and five hundred, and the west side four thousand and five hundred.
and will have these measurements: 4,500 cubits on the north side, 4,500 cubits on the south side, 4,500 cubits on the east side, and 4,500 cubits on the west side.
And the residue in length over against the
oblation of the holy portion shall be ten thousand eastward, and ten thousand westward: and it shall be over against the
oblation of the holy portion; and the increase
thereof shall be for food unto them that serve the city.
The remainder of the length bordering the holy portion and running adjacent to it will be 10,000 cubits on the east side and 10,000 cubits on the west side. Its produce will supply food for the workers of the city.
And the residue shall be for the prince, on the one side and on the other of the holy
oblation, and of the possession of the city, over against the five and twenty thousand of the
oblation toward the east border, and westward over against the five and twenty thousand toward the west border, over against the portions for the prince: and it shall be the holy
oblation; and the sanctuary of the house shall be in the midst
thereof.
The remaining area on both sides of the holy portion and of the property of the city will belong to the prince. He will own the land adjacent to the
tribal portions, extending eastward from the 25,000 cubits of the holy district toward the eastern border, and westward from the 25,000 cubits to the western border. And in the center of them will be the holy portion and the sanctuary of the temple.
And the gates of the city shall be after the names of the tribes of Israel: three gates northward; one gate of
Reuben, one gate of Judah, one gate of Levi.
Beginning on the north side, which will be 4,500 cubits long, the gates of the city will be named after the tribes of Israel. On the north side
there will be three gates: the gate of
Reuben, the gate of Judah, and the gate of Levi.
And at the east side four thousand and five hundred: and three gates; and one gate of Joseph, one gate of Benjamin, one gate of
Dan.
On the east side, which will be 4,500 cubits long,
there will be three gates: the gate of Joseph, the gate of Benjamin, and the gate of
Dan.
And at the south side four thousand and five hundred measures: and three gates; one gate of
Simeon, one gate of
Issachar, one gate of
Zebulun.
On the south side, which will be 4,500 cubits long,
there will be three gates: the gate of
Simeon, the gate of
Issachar, and the gate of
Zebulun.
At the west side four thousand and five hundred, with their three gates; one gate of
Gad, one gate of Asher, one gate of
Naphtali.
And on the west side, which will be 4,500 cubits long,
there will be three gates: the gate of
Gad, the gate of Asher, and the gate of
Naphtali.
It was round about eighteen thousand measures: and the name of the city from that day shall be, The LORD is there.
The
perimeter of the city will be 18,000 cubits, and from that day on the name of the city will be: THE LORD IS
THERE.”
And the king appointed them a daily provision of the king’s meat, and of the wine which he
drank: so
nourishing them three years, that at the end
thereof they might stand before the king.
The king assigned them daily provisions of the royal food and wine. They were to be trained for three years, after which they were to enter the king’s service.
But Daniel purposed in his heart that he would not
defile himself with the portion of the king’s meat, nor with the wine which he
drank:
therefore he requested of the prince of the eunuchs that he might not
defile himself.
But Daniel made up his mind that he would not
defile himself with the king’s food or wine. So he asked the chief official for permission not to
defile himself.
And the king communed with them; and among them all was found none like Daniel, Hananiah, Mishael, and
Azariah:
therefore stood they before the king.
And the king spoke with them, and among all the young men he found no one equal to Daniel, Hananiah, Mishael, and
Azariah. So they entered the king’s service.
And Daniel continued even unto the first year of king Cyrus.
And Daniel remained there until the first year of King Cyrus.
The king answered and said to the Chaldeans, The thing is gone from me: if ye will not make known unto me the dream, with the interpretation
thereof, ye shall be cut in pieces, and your houses shall be made a
dunghill.
The king replied to the astrologers, “My word is final: If you do not tell me the dream and its interpretation, you will be cut into pieces and your houses will be reduced to
rubble.
But if ye
shew the dream, and the interpretation
thereof, ye shall receive of me gifts and rewards and great honour:
therefore shew me the dream, and the interpretation
thereof.
But if you tell me the dream and its interpretation, you will receive from me gifts and rewards and great honor. So tell me the dream and its interpretation.”
But if ye will not make known unto me the dream,
there is but one decree for you: for ye have prepared lying and corrupt words to speak before me, till the time be changed:
therefore tell me the dream, and I shall know that ye can
shew me the interpretation
thereof.
If you do not tell me the dream,
there is only one decree for you. You have
conspired to speak before me false and
fraudulent words, hoping the situation will change.
Therefore tell me the dream, and I will know that you can give me its interpretation.”
The Chaldeans answered before the king, and said,
There is not a man upon the earth that can
shew the king’s matter:
therefore there is no king, lord, nor ruler, that asked such things at any
magician, or
astrologer, or
Chaldean.
The astrologers answered the king, “No one on earth can do what the king requests! No king, however great and powerful, has ever asked anything like this of any
magician,
enchanter, or
astrologer.
And it is a rare thing that the king requireth, and
there is none other that can
shew it before the king, except the gods, whose dwelling is not with flesh.
What the king requests is so difficult that no one can tell it to him except the gods, whose dwelling is not with mortals.”
Therefore Daniel went in unto Arioch, whom the king had ordained to destroy the wise men of Babylon: he went and said thus unto him; Destroy not the wise men of Babylon: bring me in before the king, and I will
shew unto the king the interpretation.
Therefore Daniel went to Arioch, whom the king had appointed to destroy the wise men of Babylon, and said to him, “Do not
execute the wise men of Babylon! Bring me before the king, and I will give him the interpretation.”
The king answered and said to Daniel, whose name was Belteshazzar, Art thou able to make known unto me the dream which I have seen, and the interpretation thereof?
The king
responded to Daniel, whose name was Belteshazzar, “Are you able to tell me what I saw in the dream, as well as its interpretation?”
But
there is a God in heaven that revealeth secrets, and maketh known to the king
Nebuchadnezzar what shall be in the latter days. Thy dream, and the visions of thy head upon thy bed, are these;
But
there is a God in heaven who reveals mysteries, and He has made known to King
Nebuchadnezzar what will happen in the latter days. Your dream and the visions that came into your mind as you lay on your bed were these:
Thou, O king, sawest, and behold a great image. This great image, whose brightness was excellent, stood before thee; and the form thereof was terrible.
As you, O king, were watching, a great statue appeared. A great and
dazzling statue stood before you, and its form was
awesome.
This is the dream; and we will tell the interpretation thereof before the king.
This was the dream; now we will tell the king its interpretation.
And after thee shall arise another kingdom inferior to thee, and another third kingdom of brass, which shall bear rule over all the earth.
But after you, there will arise another kingdom, inferior to yours. Next, a third kingdom, one of bronze, will rule the whole earth.
And the fourth kingdom shall be strong as iron:
forasmuch as iron breaketh in pieces and subdueth all things: and as iron that breaketh all these, shall it break in pieces and
bruise.
Finally,
there will be a fourth kingdom as strong as iron; for iron
shatters and crushes all things, and like iron that crushes all things, it will
shatter and
crush all the others.
And whereas thou sawest the feet and toes, part of potters’ clay, and part of iron, the kingdom shall be divided; but
there shall be in it of the strength of the iron,
forasmuch as thou sawest the iron mixed with
miry clay.
And just as you saw that the feet and toes were made partly of fired clay and partly of iron, so this will be a divided kingdom, yet some of the strength of iron will be in it—just as you saw the iron mixed with clay.
Forasmuch as thou sawest that the stone was cut out of the mountain without hands, and that it
brake in pieces the iron, the brass, the clay, the silver, and the gold; the great God hath made known to the king what shall come to pass
hereafter: and the dream is certain, and the interpretation
thereof sure.
And just as you saw a stone being cut out of the mountain without human hands, and it
shattered the iron, bronze, clay, silver, and gold, so the great God has told the king what will happen in the future. The dream is true, and its interpretation is
trustworthy.”
Nebuchadnezzar the king made an image of gold, whose height was
threescore cubits, and the breadth
thereof six cubits: he set it up in the plain of
Dura, in the province of Babylon.
King
Nebuchadnezzar made a golden statue sixty cubits high and six cubits wide, and he set it up on the plain of
Dura in the province of Babylon.
Therefore at that time, when all the people heard the sound of the
cornet,
flute,
harp,
sackbut,
psaltery, and all kinds of musick, all the people, the nations, and the languages, fell down and worshipped the golden image that
Nebuchadnezzar the king had set up.
Therefore, as soon as all the people heard the sound of the horn,
flute,
zither,
lyre,
harp, and all kinds of music, the people of every nation and language would fall down and worship the golden statue that King
Nebuchadnezzar had set up.
There are certain Jews whom thou hast set over the affairs of the province of Babylon,
Shadrach, Meshach, and
Abed-nego; these men, O king, have not regarded thee: they serve not thy gods, nor worship the golden image which thou hast set up.
But
there are some Jews you have appointed to
manage the province of Babylon—
Shadrach, Meshach, and
Abednego—who have
ignored you, O king, and have refused to serve your gods or worship the golden statue you have set up.”
Then was
Nebuchadnezzar full of
fury, and the form of his
visage was changed against
Shadrach, Meshach, and
Abed-nego:
therefore he spake, and commanded that they should heat the furnace one seven times more than it was
wont to be heated.
At this,
Nebuchadnezzar was filled with
rage, and the expression on his face changed toward
Shadrach, Meshach, and
Abednego. He gave orders to heat the furnace seven times hotter than usual,
Therefore because the king’s commandment was
urgent, and the furnace exceeding hot, the flame of the fire
slew those men that took up
Shadrach, Meshach, and
Abed-nego.
The king’s command was so
urgent and the furnace so hot that the
fiery flames killed the men who carried up
Shadrach, Meshach, and
Abednego.
And the princes, governors, and captains, and the king’s counsellors, being gathered together, saw these men, upon whose bodies the fire had no power, nor was an hair of their head singed, neither were their coats changed, nor the smell of fire had passed on them.
and when the satraps, prefects, governors, and royal advisers had gathered around, they saw that the fire had no effect on the bodies of these men. Not a hair of their heads was singed, their robes were unaffected, and there was no smell of fire on them.
Therefore I make a decree, That every people, nation, and language, which speak any thing
amiss against the God of
Shadrach, Meshach, and
Abed-nego, shall be cut in pieces, and their houses shall be made a
dunghill: because
there is no other God that can deliver after this sort.
Therefore I decree that the people of any nation or language who say anything offensive against the God of
Shadrach, Meshach, and
Abednego will be cut into pieces and their houses reduced to
rubble. For
there is no other god who can deliver in this way.”
Therefore made I a decree to bring in all the wise men of Babylon before me, that they might make known unto me the interpretation of the dream.
So I issued a decree that all the wise men of Babylon be brought before me to
interpret the dream for me.
Then came in the magicians, the astrologers, the Chaldeans, and the soothsayers: and I told the dream before them; but they did not make known unto me the interpretation thereof.
When the magicians, enchanters, astrologers, and diviners came in, I told them the dream, and they could not
interpret it for me.
O Belteshazzar, master of the magicians, because I know that the spirit of the holy gods is in thee, and no secret troubleth thee, tell me the visions of my dream that I have seen, and the interpretation thereof.
“O Belteshazzar, chief of the magicians, I know that the spirit of the holy gods is in you and that no
mystery baffles you. So explain to me the visions I saw in my dream, and their interpretation.
Thus were the visions of mine head in my bed; I saw, and behold a tree in the midst of the earth, and the height thereof was great.
In these visions of my mind as I was lying in bed, I saw this come to pass: There was a tree in the midst of the land, and its height was great.
The tree grew, and was strong, and the height thereof reached unto heaven, and the sight thereof to the end of all the earth:
The tree grew large and strong; its top reached the sky, and it was visible to the ends of the earth.
The leaves thereof were fair, and the fruit thereof much, and in it was meat for all: the beasts of the field had shadow under it, and the fowls of the heaven dwelt in the boughs thereof, and all flesh was fed of it.
Its leaves were beautiful, its fruit was abundant, and upon it was food for all. Under it the beasts of the field found shelter, in its branches the birds of the air nested, and from it every creature was fed.
This dream I king
Nebuchadnezzar have seen. Now thou, O Belteshazzar, declare the interpretation
thereof,
forasmuch as all the wise men of my kingdom are not able to make known unto me the interpretation: but thou art able; for the spirit of the holy gods is in thee.
This is the dream that I, King
Nebuchadnezzar, saw. Now, Belteshazzar, tell me the interpretation, because none of the wise men of my kingdom can
interpret it for me. But you are able, because the spirit of the holy gods is in you.”
Then Daniel, whose name was Belteshazzar, was
astonied for one hour, and his thoughts troubled him. The king spake, and said, Belteshazzar, let not the dream, or the interpretation
thereof, trouble thee. Belteshazzar answered and said, My lord, the dream be to them that
hate thee, and the interpretation
thereof to thine enemies.
For a time, Daniel, who was also known as Belteshazzar, was
perplexed, and his thoughts
alarmed him. So the king said, “Belteshazzar, do not let the dream or its interpretation
alarm you.” “My lord,” replied Belteshazzar, “may the dream apply to those who
hate you, and its interpretation to your enemies!
The tree that thou sawest, which grew, and was strong, whose height reached unto the heaven, and the sight thereof to all the earth;
The tree you saw that grew large and strong, whose top reached the sky and was visible to all the earth,
Whose leaves were fair, and the fruit
thereof much, and in it was meat for all; under which the beasts of the field dwelt, and upon whose branches the fowls of the heaven had their
habitation:
whose foliage was beautiful and whose fruit was abundant, providing food for all, under which the beasts of the field lived, and in whose branches the birds of the air nested—
And whereas the king saw a watcher and an holy one coming down from heaven, and saying,
Hew the tree down, and destroy it; yet leave the
stump of the roots
thereof in the earth, even with a band of iron and brass, in the tender grass of the field; and let it be wet with the
dew of heaven, and let his portion be with the beasts of the field, till seven times pass over him;
And you, O king, saw a watcher, a holy one, coming down from heaven and saying: ‘Cut down the tree and destroy it, but leave the
stump with its roots in the ground, and a band of iron and bronze around it, in the tender grass of the field. Let him be
drenched with the
dew of heaven, and
graze with the beasts of the field till seven times pass him by.’
Wherefore, O king, let my counsel be acceptable unto thee, and break off thy sins by righteousness, and thine
iniquities by
shewing mercy to the poor; if it may be a
lengthening of thy tranquility.
Therefore, may my advice be pleasing to you, O king. Break away from your sins by doing what is right, and from your
iniquities by showing mercy to the
oppressed. Perhaps
there will be an extension of your prosperity.”
While the word was in the king’s mouth,
there fell a voice from heaven, saying, O king
Nebuchadnezzar, to thee it is spoken; The kingdom is departed from thee.
While the words were still in the king’s mouth, a voice came from heaven: “It is decreed to you, King
Nebuchadnezzar, that the kingdom has departed from you.
And all the inhabitants of the earth are reputed as nothing: and he doeth according to his will in the army of heaven, and among the inhabitants of the earth: and none can stay his hand, or say unto him, What doest thou?
All the peoples of the earth are counted as nothing, and He does as He pleases with the army of heaven and the peoples of the earth. There is no one who can restrain His hand or say to Him, ‘What have You done?’”
Belshazzar, whiles he tasted the wine, commanded to bring the golden and silver vessels which his father
Nebuchadnezzar had taken out of the temple which was in Jerusalem; that the king, and his princes, his wives, and his concubines, might drink
therein.
Under the influence of the wine,
Belshazzar gave orders to bring in the gold and silver vessels that
Nebuchadnezzar his father had taken from the temple in Jerusalem, so that the king could drink from them, along with his nobles, his wives, and his concubines.
The king
cried aloud to bring in the astrologers, the Chaldeans, and the soothsayers. And the king spake, and said to the wise men of Babylon,
Whosoever shall read this writing, and
shew me the interpretation
thereof, shall be clothed with scarlet, and have a chain of gold about his neck, and shall be the third ruler in the kingdom.
The king called out for the enchanters, astrologers, and diviners to be brought in, and he said to these wise men of Babylon, “
Whoever reads this inscription and tells me its interpretation will be clothed in purple and have a gold chain placed around his neck, and he will be made the third highest ruler in the kingdom.”
Then came in all the king’s wise men: but they could not read the writing, nor make known to the king the interpretation thereof.
So all the king’s wise men came in, but they could not read the inscription or
interpret it for him.
There is a man in thy kingdom, in whom is the spirit of the holy gods; and in the days of thy father light and understanding and wisdom, like the wisdom of the gods, was found in him; whom the king
Nebuchadnezzar thy father, the king, I say, thy father, made master of the magicians, astrologers, Chaldeans, and soothsayers;
There is a man in your kingdom who has the spirit of the holy gods in him. In the days of your father he was found to have insight, intelligence, and wisdom like that of the gods. Your father, King
Nebuchadnezzar, appointed him chief of the magicians, enchanters, astrologers, and diviners. Your own father, the king,
Forasmuch as an excellent spirit, and knowledge, and understanding,
interpreting of dreams, and
shewing of hard sentences, and
dissolving of doubts, were found in the same Daniel, whom the king named Belteshazzar: now let Daniel be called, and he will
shew the interpretation.
did this because Daniel, the one he named Belteshazzar, was found to have an extraordinary spirit, as well as knowledge, understanding, and the ability to
interpret dreams, explain
riddles, and
solve difficult problems.
Summon Daniel,
therefore, and he will give you the interpretation.”
And now the wise men, the astrologers, have been brought in before me, that they should read this writing, and make known unto me the interpretation
thereof: but they could not
shew the interpretation of the thing:
Now the wise men and enchanters were brought before me to read this inscription and
interpret it for me, but they could not give its interpretation.
And I have heard of thee, that thou canst make interpretations, and
dissolve doubts: now if thou canst read the writing, and make known to me the interpretation
thereof, thou shalt be clothed with scarlet, and have a chain of gold about thy neck, and shalt be the third ruler in the kingdom.
But I have heard about you, that you are able to give interpretations and
solve difficult problems.
Therefore, if you can read this inscription and give me its interpretation, you will be clothed in purple and have a gold chain placed around your neck, and you will be made the third highest ruler in the kingdom.”
Then was the part of the hand sent from him; and this writing was written.
Therefore He sent the hand that wrote the inscription.
Then the presidents and princes sought to find occasion against Daniel concerning the kingdom; but they could find none occasion nor fault;
forasmuch as he was faithful, neither was
there any error or fault found in him.
Thus the administrators and satraps sought a charge against Daniel concerning the kingdom, but they could find no charge or corruption, because he was
trustworthy, and no
negligence or corruption was found in him.
Now, O king, establish the decree, and sign the writing, that it be not changed, according to the law of the Medes and Persians, which altereth not.
Therefore, O king, establish the decree and sign the document so that it cannot be changed—in accordance with the law of the Medes and Persians, which cannot be
repealed.”
Wherefore king
Darius signed the writing and the decree.
Therefore King
Darius signed the written decree.
The first was like a lion, and had eagle’s wings: I
beheld till the wings
thereof were
plucked, and it was lifted up from the earth, and made stand upon the feet as a man, and a man’s heart was given to it.
The first beast was like a lion, and it had the wings of an eagle. I watched until its wings were
torn off and it was lifted up from the ground and made to stand on two feet like a man, and given the mind of a man.
I considered the horns, and, behold,
there came up among them another little horn, before whom
there were three of the first horns
plucked up by the roots: and, behold, in this horn were eyes like the eyes of man, and a mouth speaking great things.
While I was
contemplating the horns, suddenly another horn, a little one, came up among them, and three of the first horns were uprooted before it. This horn had eyes like those of a man and a mouth that spoke words of
arrogance.
And
there was given him dominion, and glory, and a kingdom, that all people, nations, and languages, should serve him: his dominion is an
everlasting dominion, which shall not pass away, and his kingdom that which shall not be destroyed.
And He was given dominion, glory, and
kingship, that the people of every nation and language should serve Him. His dominion is an
everlasting dominion that will not pass away, and His kingdom is one that will never be destroyed.
I came near unto one of them that stood by, and asked him the truth of all this. So he told me, and made me know the interpretation of the things.
I approached one of those who were standing there, and I asked him the true meaning of all this. So he told me the interpretation of these things:
Then I lifted up mine eyes, and saw, and, behold, there stood before the river a ram which had two horns: and the two horns were high; but one was higher than the other, and the higher came up last.
Then I lifted up my eyes and saw a ram with two horns standing beside the canal. The horns were long, but one was longer than the other, and the longer one grew up later.
I saw the ram
pushing westward, and northward, and southward; so that no beasts might stand before him, neither was
there any that could deliver out of his hand; but he did according to his will, and became great.
I saw the ram charging toward the west and the north and the south. No animal could stand against him, and
there was no
deliverance from his power. He did as he pleased and became great.
And I saw him come close unto the ram, and he was moved with
choler against him, and
smote the ram, and
brake his two horns: and
there was no power in the ram to stand before him, but he cast him down to the ground, and stamped upon him: and
there was none that could deliver the ram out of his hand.
I saw him approach the ram in a
rage against him, and he struck the ram and
shattered his two horns. The ram was powerless to stand against him, and the goat threw him to the ground and
trampled him, and no one could deliver the ram from his power.
Therefore the he goat waxed very great: and when he was strong, the great horn was broken; and for it came up four notable ones toward the four winds of heaven.
Thus the goat became very great, but at the height of his power, his large horn was broken off, and four prominent horns came up in its place, pointing toward the four winds of heaven.
And it came to pass, when I, even I Daniel, had seen the vision, and sought for the meaning, then, behold, there stood before me as the appearance of a man.
While I, Daniel, was watching the vision and trying to understand it, there stood before me one having the appearance of a man.
Yea, all Israel have
transgressed thy law, even by departing, that they might not obey thy voice;
therefore the
curse is poured upon us, and the oath that is written in the law of Moses the servant of God, because we have
sinned against him.
All Israel has
transgressed Your law and turned away, refusing to obey Your voice; so the oath and the
curse written in the Law of Moses the servant of God has been poured out on us, because we have
sinned against You.
Therefore hath the LORD watched upon the evil, and brought it upon us: for the LORD our God is righteous in all his works which he doeth: for we obeyed not his voice.
Therefore the LORD has kept the
calamity in store and brought it upon us. For the LORD our God is righteous in all He does; yet we have not obeyed His voice.
