Except it be for this one voice, that I
cried standing among them, Touching the resurrection of the dead I am called in question by you this day.
unless it was this one thing I called out as I stood in their presence: ‘It is concerning the resurrection of the dead that I am on
trial before you
today.’”
But
Festus, willing to do the Jews a pleasure, answered Paul, and said,
Wilt thou go up to Jerusalem, and there be judged of these things before me?
But
Festus, wishing to do the Jews a favor, said to Paul, “Are you willing to go up to Jerusalem to stand
trial before me on these charges?”
Then said Paul, I stand at Caesar’s judgment seat, where I ought to be judged: to the Jews have I done no wrong, as thou very well knowest.
Paul replied, “I am standing before the judgment seat of Caesar, where I ought to be
tried. I have done nothing wrong to the Jews, as you
yourself know very well.
And because I doubted of such manner of questions, I asked him whether he would go to Jerusalem, and there be judged of these matters.
Since I was at a loss as to how to
investigate these matters, I asked if he was willing to go to Jerusalem and be
tried there on these charges.
And now I stand and am judged for the hope of the promise made of God unto our fathers:
And now I stand on trial because of my hope in the promise that God made to our fathers,
Unto which promise our twelve
tribes, instantly serving God day and night, hope to come. For which hope’s sake, king
Agrippa, I am accused of the Jews.
the promise our twelve
tribes are hoping to
realize as they earnestly serve God day and night. It is because of this hope, O king, that I am accused by the Jews.
I frequently had them punished in the synagogues, and I
tried to make them
blaspheme. In my
raging fury against them, I even went to foreign cities to
persecute them.
For these causes the Jews caught me in the temple, and went about to kill me.
For this reason the Jews seized me in the temple courts and tried to kill me.
There will be trouble and distress for every human being who does evil, first for the
Jew, then for the Greek;
Not only that, but we also
rejoice in our sufferings, because we know that suffering produces
perseverance;
Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? shall
tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or
peril, or sword?
Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall trouble or distress or persecution or famine or nakedness or danger or sword?
I say then, Hath God cast away his people? God
forbid. For I also am an
Israelite, of the seed of Abraham, of the
tribe of Benjamin.
I ask then, did God
reject His people? Certainly not! I am an
Israelite myself, a
descendant of Abraham, from the
tribe of Benjamin.
For for this cause pay ye tribute also: for they are God’s ministers, attending continually upon this very thing.
This is also why you pay taxes. For the authorities are God’s servants, who
devote themselves to their work.
Render therefore to all their dues: tribute to whom tribute is due; custom to whom custom; fear to whom fear; honour to whom honour.
Pay
everyone what you owe him: taxes to whom taxes are due, revenue to whom revenue is due, respect to whom respect is due, honor to whom honor is due.
Do ye not know that the saints shall judge the world? and if the world shall be judged by you, are ye unworthy to judge the smallest matters?
Do you not know that the saints will judge the world? And if you are to judge the world, are you not competent to judge
trivial cases?
Who comforteth us in all our
tribulation, that we may be able to comfort them which are in any trouble, by the comfort
wherewith we ourselves are comforted of God.
who comforts us in all our troubles, so that we can comfort those in any trouble with the comfort we ourselves have received from God.
Now
thanks be unto God, which always causeth us to
triumph in Christ, and maketh manifest the savour of his knowledge by us in every place.
Great is my boldness of speech toward you, great is my glorying of you: I am filled with comfort, I am exceeding joyful in all our
tribulation.
Great is my confidence in you; great is my pride in you; I am filled with encouragement; in all our troubles my joy overflows.
How that in a great
trial of
affliction the abundance of their joy and their deep poverty abounded unto the riches of their
liberality.
In the terrible
ordeal they suffered, their abundant joy and deep poverty overflowed into rich
generosity.
Beside those things that are without, that which cometh upon me daily, the care of all the churches.
Apart from these external
trials, I face daily the pressure of my
concern for all the churches.
But be it so, I did not burden you: nevertheless, being
crafty, I caught you with
guile.
Be that as it may, I was not a burden to you; but
crafty as I am, I caught you by
trickery.
For ye have heard of my conversation in time past in the Jews’ religion, how that beyond measure I
persecuted the church of God, and wasted it:
For you have heard of my former way of life in
Judaism, how severely I
persecuted the church of God and
tried to destroy it.
But they had heard only, That he which
persecuted us in times past now preacheth the faith which once he destroyed.
They only heard the account: “The man who formerly
persecuted us is now preaching the faith he once
tried to destroy.”
And my
temptation which was in my flesh ye
despised not, nor rejected; but received me as an angel of God, even as Christ Jesus.
And although my illness was a
trial to you, you did not
despise or
reject me. Instead, you
welcomed me as if I were an angel of God, as if I were Christ Jesus Himself.
Wherefore I desire that ye
faint not at my
tribulations for you, which is your glory.
So I ask you not to be discouraged because of my sufferings for you, which are your glory.
Circumcised the eighth day, of the stock of Israel, of the
tribe of Benjamin, an Hebrew of the Hebrews; as touching the law, a
Pharisee;
circumcised on the eighth day, of the people of Israel, of the
tribe of Benjamin; a Hebrew of Hebrews; as to the law, a
Pharisee;
And having disarmed the powers and authorities, He made a public
spectacle of them,
triumphing over them by the cross.
But as we were allowed of God to be put in trust with the gospel, even so we speak; not as pleasing men, but God, which trieth our hearts.
Instead, we speak as those approved by God to be entrusted with the gospel, not in order to please men but God, who examines our hearts.
Wherefore we would have come unto you, even I Paul, once and again; but
Satan hindered us.
For we wanted to come to you—indeed I, Paul,
tried again and again—but
Satan obstructed us.
That no man should be moved by these afflictions: for
yourselves know that we are appointed
thereunto.
so that none of you would be
shaken by these
trials. For you know that we are destined for this.
For
verily, when we were with you, we told you before that we should suffer
tribulation; even as it came to pass, and ye know.
Indeed, when we were with you, we kept
warning you that we would suffer persecution; and as you know, it has come to pass.
So that we ourselves glory in you in the churches of God for your
patience and faith in all your persecutions and
tribulations that ye
endure:
When your fathers
tempted me, proved me, and saw my works forty years.
where your fathers tested and tried Me, and for forty years saw My works.
For he of whom these things are spoken pertaineth to another tribe, of which no man gave attendance at the altar.
He of whom these things are said belonged to a different tribe, from which no one has ever served at the altar.
For it is evident that our Lord
sprang out of Juda; of which
tribe Moses spake nothing concerning priesthood.
For it is clear that our Lord descended from Judah, a tribe as to which Moses said nothing about priests.
By faith Abraham, when he was
tried, offered up Isaac: and he that had received the promises offered up his only
begotten son,
By faith Abraham, when he was tested, offered up Isaac on the altar. He who had received the promises was ready to offer his one and only son,
By faith they passed through the Red sea as by dry land: which the Egyptians
assaying to do were
drowned.
By faith the people passed through the Red Sea as on dry land; but when the Egyptians
tried to follow, they were
drowned.
And others had
trial of cruel mockings and scourgings,
yea, moreover of bonds and imprisonment:
James, a servant of God and of the Lord Jesus Christ, to the twelve
tribes which are scattered abroad,
greeting.
James, a servant of God and of the Lord Jesus Christ, To the twelve
tribes of the
Dispersion: Greetings.
My brethren, count it all joy when ye fall into
divers temptations;
Consider it pure joy, my brothers, when you
encounter trials of many kinds,
Blessed is the man that endureth
temptation: for when he is
tried, he shall receive the crown of life, which the Lord hath promised to them that love him.
Blessed is the man who perseveres under trial, because when he has stood the test, he will receive the crown of life that God has promised to those who love Him.
For he shall have judgment without mercy, that hath shewed no mercy; and mercy rejoiceth against judgment.
For judgment without mercy will be shown to
anyone who has not been
merciful. Mercy
triumphs over judgment.
In this you greatly
rejoice, though now for a little while you may have had to suffer grief in various
trials That the trial of your faith, being much more precious than of gold that perisheth, though it be tried with fire, might be found unto praise and honour and glory at the appearing of Jesus Christ:
so that the
proven character of your faith—more precious than gold, which perishes even though refined by fire—may result in praise, glory, and honor at the revelation of Jesus Christ.
Beloved, think it not strange concerning the
fiery trial which is to try you, as though some strange thing happened unto you:
Beloved, do not be surprised at the
fiery trial that has come upon you, as though something strange were happening to you.
The Lord knoweth how to deliver the godly out of temptations, and to reserve the unjust unto the day of judgment to be punished:
if all this is so, then the Lord knows how to
rescue the godly from
trials and to hold the unrighteous for punishment on the day of judgment.
Behold, he cometh with clouds; and every eye shall see him, and they also which pierced him: and all kindreds of the earth shall
wail because of him. Even so,
Amen.
Behold, He is coming with the clouds, and every eye will see Him—even those who pierced Him. And all the
tribes of the earth will
mourn because of Him. So shall it be!
Amen.
I John, who also am your brother, and companion in
tribulation, and in the kingdom and
patience of Jesus Christ, was in the isle that is called
Patmos, for the word of God, and for the testimony of Jesus Christ.
I, John, your brother and
partner in the
tribulation and kingdom and
perseverance that are in Jesus, was on the island of
Patmos because of the word of God and my testimony about Jesus.
I know thy works, and thy labour, and thy
patience, and how thou canst not bear them which are evil: and thou hast
tried them which say they are apostles, and are not, and hast found them liars:
I know your deeds, your labor, and your
perseverance. I know that you cannot
tolerate those who are evil, and you have tested and exposed as liars those who falsely claim to be apostles.
I know thy works, and
tribulation, and poverty, (but thou art rich) and I know the
blasphemy of them which say they are Jews, and are not, but are the
synagogue of
Satan.
I know your
affliction and your poverty—though you are rich! And I am aware of the
slander of those who falsely claim to be Jews, but are in fact a
synagogue of
Satan.
Fear none of those things which thou shalt suffer: behold, the devil shall cast some of you into prison, that ye may be
tried; and ye shall have
tribulation ten days: be thou faithful unto death, and I will give thee a crown of life.
Do not fear what you are about to suffer. Look, the devil is about to throw some of you into prison to test you, and you will suffer
tribulation for ten days. Be faithful even unto death, and I will give you the crown of life.
Behold, I will cast her into a bed, and them that commit
adultery with her into great
tribulation, except they
repent of their deeds.
Behold, I will cast her
onto a bed of sickness, and those who commit
adultery with her will suffer great
tribulation unless they
repent of her deeds.
I counsel thee to
buy of me gold
tried in the fire, that thou mayest be rich; and white
raiment, that thou mayest be clothed, and that the shame of thy nakedness do not appear; and
anoint thine eyes with
eyesalve, that thou mayest see.
I counsel you to
buy from Me gold refined by fire so that you may become rich, white garments so that you may be clothed and your shameful nakedness not exposed, and
salve to
anoint your eyes so that you may see.
And one of the elders saith unto me,
Weep not: behold, the Lion of the
tribe of Juda, the Root of David, hath prevailed to open the book, and to loose the seven seals thereof.
Then one of the elders said to me, “Do not
weep! Behold, the Lion of the
tribe of Judah, the Root of David, has
triumphed to open the
scroll and its seven seals.”
And they sung a new song, saying, Thou art worthy to take the book, and to open the seals thereof: for thou
wast slain, and hast redeemed us to God by thy blood out of every kindred, and tongue, and people, and nation;
And they
sang a new song: “Worthy are You to take the
scroll and open its seals, because You were slain, and by Your blood You purchased for God those from every
tribe and tongue and people and nation.
And I heard the number of them which were sealed: and there were sealed an hundred and forty and four thousand of all the tribes of the children of Israel.
And I heard the number of those who were sealed, 144,000 from all the tribes of Israel:
Of the
tribe of Juda were sealed twelve thousand. Of the
tribe of
Reuben were sealed twelve thousand. Of the
tribe of
Gad were sealed twelve thousand.
From the
tribe of Judah 12,000 were sealed, from the
tribe of
Reuben 12,000, from the
tribe of
Gad 12,000,
Of the tribe of Aser were sealed twelve thousand. Of the tribe of Nepthalim were sealed twelve thousand. Of the tribe of Manasses were sealed twelve thousand.
from the
tribe of Asher 12,000, from the
tribe of
Naphtali 12,000, from the
tribe of
Manasseh 12,000,
Of the
tribe of
Simeon were sealed twelve thousand. Of the
tribe of Levi were sealed twelve thousand. Of the
tribe of
Issachar were sealed twelve thousand.
from the
tribe of
Simeon 12,000, from the
tribe of Levi 12,000, from the
tribe of
Issachar 12,000,
Of the tribe of Zabulon were sealed twelve thousand. Of the tribe of Joseph were sealed twelve thousand. Of the tribe of Benjamin were sealed twelve thousand.
from the
tribe of
Zebulun 12,000, from the
tribe of Joseph 12,000, and from the
tribe of Benjamin 12,000.
After this I
beheld, and, lo, a great multitude, which no man could number, of all nations, and kindreds, and people, and tongues, stood before the throne, and before the Lamb, clothed with white robes, and palms in their hands;
After this I looked and saw a multitude too large to count, from every nation and tribe and people and tongue, standing before the throne and before the Lamb. They were wearing white robes and holding palm branches in their hands.
And I said unto him, Sir, thou knowest. And he said to me, These are they which came out of great
tribulation, and have washed their robes, and made them white in the blood of the Lamb.
“Sir,” I answered, “you know.” So he replied, “These are the ones who have come out of the great
tribulation; they have washed their robes and made them white in the blood of the Lamb.
And they of the people and kindreds and tongues and nations shall see their dead bodies three days and an half, and shall not suffer their dead bodies to be put in graves.
For three and a half days all peoples and tribes and tongues and nations will view their bodies and will not permit them to be laid in a tomb.
And it was given unto him to make war with the saints, and to overcome them: and power was given him over all kindreds, and tongues, and nations.
Then the beast was permitted to
wage war against the saints and to
conquer them, and it was given authority over every
tribe and people and tongue and nation.
And I saw another angel fly in the midst of heaven, having the
everlasting gospel to
preach unto them that dwell on the earth, and to every nation, and kindred, and tongue, and people,
Then I saw another angel flying overhead, with the eternal gospel to
proclaim to those who dwell on the earth—to every nation and
tribe and tongue and people.
These shall make war with the Lamb, and the Lamb shall overcome them: for he is Lord of lords, and King of kings: and they that are with him are called, and chosen, and faithful.
They will make war against the Lamb, and the Lamb will triumph over them, because He is Lord of lords and King of kings; and He will be accompanied by His called and chosen and faithful ones.”
And had a wall great and high, and had twelve gates, and at the gates twelve angels, and names written
thereon, which are the names of the twelve
tribes of the children of Israel:
The city had a great and high wall with twelve gates inscribed with the names of the twelve tribes of Israel, and twelve angels at the gates.
Then the chief of the families of
Judea and of the
tribe of Benjamin stood up; the priests also, and the Levites, and all they whose mind the Lord had moved to go up, and to build an house for the Lord at Jerusalem,
Now if this city and the walls thereof be made up again, they will not only refuse to give
tribute, but also
rebel against kings.
And the men therein were given to rebellion and war: and that mighty kings and fierce were in Jerusalem, who reigned and exacted tributes in Celosyria and Phenice.
Likewise for those that are no soldiers, and have not to do with wars, but use husbundry, when they have
reaped again that which they had sown, they bring it to the king, and
compel one another to pay
tribute unto the king.
And that all the country which they hold should be free without tribute; and that the Edomites should give over the villages of the Jews which then they held:
After this were the principal men of the families chosen according to their tribes, to go up with their wives and sons and daughters, with their menservants and maidservants, and their cattle.
And these are the names of the men which went up, according to their families among their tribes, after their several heads.
The priests, the sons of Phinees the son of Aaron: Jesus the son of Josedec, the son of Saraias, and Joacim the son of Zorobabel, the son of Salathiel, of the house of David, out of the kindred of Phares, of the tribe of Judah;
Wherefore when the enemies of the
tribe of Judah and Benjamin heard it, they came to know what that noise of
trumpets should mean.
And out of the tribute of Celosyria and Phenice a portion carefully to be given these men for the sacrifices of the Lord, that is, to Zorobabel the governor, for bullocks, and rams, and lambs;
And twelve goats for the sin of all Israel, according to the number of the chief of the tribes of Israel.
And in three days were all they of the
tribe of Judah and Benjamin gathered together at Jerusalem the
twentieth day of the ninth month.
The son of Aaron, of the
tribe of Levi; which was
captive in the land of the Medes, in the reign of Artexerxes king of the Persians.
And
triumphed not in my name for the destruction of your enemies, but ever to this day do ye yet
murmur.
And unto him thou gavest commandment to love thy way: which he
transgressed, and immediately thou appointedst death in him and in his generations, of whom came nations,
tribes, people, and kindreds, out of number.
Those are the ten
tribes, which were carried away prisoners out of their own land in the time of Osea the king, whom Salmanasar the king of Assyria led away
captive, and he carried them over the waters, and so came they into another land.
A man shall have no
pity upon his neighbour, but shall destroy their houses with the sword, and
spoil their goods, because of the lack of bread, and for great
tribulation.
Then shall they be known, who are my chosen; and they shall be tried as the gold in the fire.
The book of the words of
Tobit, son of Tobiel, the son of Ananiel, the son of Aduel, the son of Gabael, of the seed of Asael, of the
tribe of Nephthali;
And when I was in mine own country, in the land of Israel being but young, all the
tribe of Nephthali my father fell from the house of Jerusalem, which was chosen out of all the
tribes of Israel, that all the
tribes should sacrifice there, where the temple of the
habitation of the most High was consecrated and built for all ages.
Now all the
tribes which together revolted, and the house of my father Nephthali, sacrificed unto the
heifer Baal.
Beware of all
whoredom, my son, and chiefly take a wife of the seed of thy fathers, and take not a strange woman to wife, which is not of thy father’s
tribe: for we are the children of the prophets, Noe, Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob: remember, my son, that our fathers from the beginning, even that they all married wives of their own kindred, and were blessed in their children, and their seed shall
inherit the land.
Then he said unto him, Go and
tarry not. So he went in and said to his father, Behold, I have found one which will go with me. Then he said, Call him unto me, that I may know of what
tribe he is, and whether he be a
trusty man to go with thee.
Then
Tobit said unto him, Brother,
shew me of what
tribe and family thou art.
To whom he said,
Dost thou seek for a
tribe or family, or an
hired man to go with thy son? Then
Tobit said unto him, I would know, brother, thy kindred and name.
Then
Tobit said, Thou art
welcome, brother; be not now
angry with me, because I have enquired to know thy
tribe and thy family; for thou art my brother, of an
honest and good stock: for I know
Ananias and Jonathas, sons of that great Samaias, as we went together to Jerusalem to worship, and offered the
firstborn, and the tenths of the fruits; and they were not
seduced with the error of our brethren: my brother, thou art of a good stock.
Yet he did cast down their frontiers, and cut down their groves: for he had decreed to destroy all the gods of the land, that all nations should worship Nabuchodonosor only, and that all tongues and tribes should call upon him as god.
Which were in those days Ozias the son of Micha, of the
tribe of
Simeon, and Chabris the son of Gothoniel, and Charmis the son of Melchiel.
And Manasses was her husband, of her tribe and kindred, who died in the barley harvest.
