Then
Hezekiah turned his face toward the wall, and prayed unto the LORD,
Then
Hezekiah turned his face to the wall and prayed to the LORD,
Who raised up the righteous man from the east, called him to his foot, gave the nations before him, and made him rule over kings? he gave them as the dust to his sword, and as driven
stubble to his bow.
Who has
aroused one from the east and called him to his feet in righteousness? He hands nations over to him and subdues kings before him. He
turns them to dust with his sword, to windblown
chaff with his bow.
I will open rivers in high places, and fountains in the midst of the valleys: I will make the wilderness a
pool of water, and the dry land springs of water.
I will open rivers on the barren heights, and fountains in the middle of the valleys. I will
turn the desert into a
pool of water, and the dry land into flowing springs.
I will make waste mountains and hills, and dry up all their herbs; and I will make the rivers islands, and I will dry up the pools.
I will lay waste the mountains and hills and dry up all their vegetation. I will
turn the rivers into dry land and
drain the marshes.
And I will bring the blind by a way that they knew not; I will lead them in paths that they have not known: I will make darkness light before them, and
crooked things straight. These things will I do unto them, and not
forsake them.
I will lead the blind by a way they did not know; I will guide them on unfamiliar paths. I will
turn darkness into light before them and rough places into level ground. These things I will do for them, and I will not
forsake them.
They shall be
turned back, they shall be greatly
ashamed, that trust in
graven images, that say to the
molten images, Ye are our gods.
But those who trust in idols and say to
molten images, ‘You are our gods!’ will be
turned back in utter shame.
He feedeth on ashes: a
deceived heart hath
turned him aside, that he cannot deliver his soul, nor say, Is there not a lie in my right hand?
He feeds on ashes. His
deluded heart has led him
astray, and he cannot deliver himself or say, “Is not this thing in my right hand a lie?”
That frustrateth the
tokens of the liars, and maketh diviners
mad; that
turneth wise men backward, and maketh their knowledge
foolish;
who foils the signs of false prophets and makes fools of diviners, who confounds the wise and turns their knowledge into nonsense,
Look unto me, and be ye saved, all the ends of the earth: for I am God, and there is none else.
Turn to Me and be saved, all the ends of the earth; for I am God, and there is no other.
And even to your old age I am he; and even to
hoar hairs will I carry you: I have made, and I will bear; even I will carry, and will deliver you.
Even to your old age, I will be the same, and I will bear you up when you
turn gray. I have made you, and I will carry you; I will
sustain you and deliver you.
I will
turn all My mountains into roads, and My
highways will be raised up.
Wherefore, when I came, was there no man? when I called, was there none to answer? Is my hand
shortened at all, that it cannot
redeem? or have I no power to deliver? behold, at my
rebuke I dry up the sea, I make the rivers a wilderness: their fish stinketh, because there is no water, and dieth for
thirst.
Why was no one there when I arrived? Why did no one answer when I called? Is My hand too short to
redeem you? Or do I lack the strength to deliver you? Behold, My
rebuke dries up the sea; I
turn the rivers into a desert; the fish
rot for lack of water and die of
thirst.
The Lord GOD hath opened mine ear, and I was not
rebellious, neither
turned away back.
The Lord GOD has opened My ears, and I have not been
rebellious, nor have I
turned back.
All we like sheep have gone
astray; we have
turned every one to his own way; and the LORD hath laid on him the iniquity of us all.
We all like sheep have gone
astray, each one has
turned to his own way; and the LORD has laid upon Him the iniquity of us all.
Yea, they are
greedy dogs which can never have enough, and they are
shepherds that cannot understand: they all look to their own way, every one for his gain, from his quarter.
Like
ravenous dogs, they are never satisfied. They are
shepherds with no
discernment; they all
turn to their own way, each one seeking his own gain:
I was
enraged by his sinful
greed, so I struck him and
hid My face in anger; yet he kept
turning back to the desires of his heart.
Is it not to deal thy bread to the
hungry, and that thou bring the poor that are cast out to thy house? when thou seest the naked, that thou cover him; and that thou hide not
thyself from thine own flesh?
Isn’t it to share your bread with the
hungry, to bring the poor and homeless into your home, to
clothe the naked when you see him, and not to
turn away from your own flesh and blood?
If thou turn away thy foot from the sabbath, from doing thy pleasure on my holy day; and call the sabbath a delight, the holy of the LORD, honourable; and shalt honour him, not doing thine own ways, nor finding thine own pleasure, nor speaking thine own words:
If you turn your foot from breaking the Sabbath, from doing as you please on My holy day, if you call the Sabbath a delight, and the LORD’s holy day honorable, if you honor it by not going your own way or seeking your own pleasure or speaking idle words,
The way of peace they know not; and there is no judgment in their goings: they have made them
crooked paths:
whosoever goeth therein shall not know peace.
The way of peace they have not known, and there is no justice in their tracks. They have
turned them into
crooked paths; no one who treads on them will know peace.
In
transgressing and lying against the LORD, and departing away from our God, speaking oppression and revolt, conceiving and uttering from the heart words of
falsehood.
rebelling and denying the LORD, turning away from our God, speaking oppression and revolt, conceiving and uttering lies from the heart.
And judgment is
turned away backward, and justice standeth
afar off: for truth is fallen in the street, and
equity cannot enter.
So justice is
turned away, and righteousness stands at a distance. For truth has
stumbled in the public square, and
honesty cannot enter.
Yea, truth faileth; and he that departeth from evil maketh himself a prey: and the LORD saw it, and it displeased him that there was no judgment.
Truth is missing, and
whoever turns from evil becomes prey. The LORD looked and was displeased that there was no justice.
But they rebelled, and
vexed his holy Spirit: therefore he was
turned to be their enemy, and he fought against them.
But they rebelled and
grieved His Holy Spirit. So He
turned and became their enemy, and He Himself fought against them.
Yet I had planted thee a noble vine, wholly a right seed: how then art thou
turned into the
degenerate plant of a strange vine unto me?
I had planted you like a choice vine from the very best seed. How could you
turn yourself before Me into a
rotten, wild vine?
A wild
ass used to the wilderness, that snuffeth up the wind at her pleasure; in her occasion who can
turn her away? all they that seek her will not
weary themselves; in her month they shall find her.
a wild
donkey at home in the wilderness,
sniffing the wind in the heat of her desire. Who can restrain her passion? All who seek her need not
weary themselves; in mating season they will find her.
Saying to a stock, Thou art my father; and to a stone, Thou hast brought me forth: for they have turned their back unto me, and not their face: but in the time of their trouble they will say, Arise, and save us.
say to a tree, ‘You are my father,’ and to a stone, ‘You gave me birth.’ For they have
turned their backs to Me and not their faces, yet in the time of trouble they
beg, ‘Rise up and save us!’
Yet thou sayest, Because I am innocent, surely his anger shall
turn from me. Behold, I will
plead with thee, because thou sayest, I have not
sinned.
you say, ‘I am innocent. Surely His anger will
turn from me.’ Behold, I will judge you, because you say, ‘I have not
sinned.’
And I said after she had done all these things,
Turn thou unto me. But she returned not. And her
treacherous sister Judah saw it.
I thought that after she had done all these things, she would return to Me. But she did not return, and her unfaithful sister Judah saw it.
And yet for all this her
treacherous sister Judah hath not
turned unto me with her whole heart, but
feignedly, saith the LORD.
Yet in spite of all this, her unfaithful sister Judah did not return to Me with all her heart, but only in pretense,” declares the LORD.
Turn, O
backsliding children, saith the LORD; for I am married unto you: and I will take you one of a city, and two of a family, and I will bring you to
Zion:
“Return, O faithless children,” declares the LORD, “for I am your master, and I will take you—one from a city and two from a family—and bring you to
Zion.
But I said, How shall I put thee among the children, and give thee a pleasant land, a goodly
heritage of the hosts of nations? and I said, Thou shalt call me, My father; and shalt not
turn away from me.
Then I said, ‘How I long to make you My sons and give you a desirable land, the most beautiful inheritance of all the nations!’ I thought you would call Me ‘Father’ and never turn away from following Me.
So put on
sackcloth,
mourn and
wail, for the fierce anger of the LORD has not
turned away from us.”
For this shall the earth
mourn, and the heavens above be black: because I have spoken it, I have purposed it, and will not
repent, neither will I
turn back from it.
Therefore the earth will
mourn and the heavens above will grow dark. I have spoken, I have
planned, and I will not relent or
turn back.”
But this people hath a revolting and a
rebellious heart; they are revolted and gone.
But these people have
stubborn and
rebellious hearts. They have
turned aside and gone away.
Be thou
instructed, O Jerusalem, lest my soul depart from thee; lest I make thee
desolate, a land not inhabited.
Be
forewarned, O Jerusalem, or I will
turn away from you; I will make you a
desolation, a land without inhabitant.”
Thus saith the LORD of hosts, They shall throughly
glean the
remnant of Israel as a vine:
turn back thine hand as a grapegatherer into the baskets.
This is what the LORD of Hosts says: “
Glean the
remnant of Israel as thoroughly as a vine. Pass your hand once more like a
grape gatherer over the branches.”
And their houses shall be turned unto others, with their fields and wives together: for I will stretch out my hand upon the inhabitants of the land, saith the LORD.
Their houses will be turned over to others, their fields and wives as well, for I will stretch out My hand against the inhabitants of the land,” declares the LORD.
Moreover thou shalt say unto them, Thus saith the LORD; Shall they fall, and not arise? shall he turn away, and not return?
So you are to tell them this is what the LORD says: “Do men fall and not get up again? Does one turn away and not return?
Why then is this people of Jerusalem
slidden back by a perpetual
backsliding? they hold fast
deceit, they refuse to return.
Why then have these people
turned away? Why does Jerusalem always
turn away? They
cling to
deceit; they refuse to return.
I
hearkened and heard, but they spake not
aright: no man
repented him of his wickedness, saying, What have I done? every one
turned to his course, as the horse rusheth into the battle.
I have
listened and heard; they do not speak what is right. No one repents of his wickedness, asking, ‘What have I done?’
Everyone has pursued his own course like a horse charging into battle.
They are
turned back to the
iniquities of their forefathers, which refused to hear my words; and they went after other gods to serve them: the house of Israel and the house of Judah have broken my covenant which I made with their fathers.
They have returned to the sins of their forefathers who refused to obey My words. They have followed other gods to serve them. The house of Israel and the house of Judah have broken the covenant I made with their fathers.
Many pastors have destroyed my
vineyard, they have
trodden my portion under foot, they have made my pleasant portion a
desolate wilderness.
Give glory to the LORD your God, before he cause darkness, and before your feet
stumble upon the dark mountains, and, while ye look for light, he
turn it into the shadow of death, and make it gross darkness.
Give glory to the LORD your God before He brings darkness, before your feet
stumble on the
dusky mountains. You wait for light, but He
turns it into deep
gloom and thick darkness.
O the hope of Israel, the saviour thereof in time of trouble, why shouldest thou be as a stranger in the land, and as a
wayfaring man that
turneth aside to
tarry for a night?
O Hope of Israel, its
Savior in times of distress, why are You like a stranger in the land, like a traveler who stays but a night?
For who shall have
pity upon thee, O Jerusalem? or who shall
bemoan thee? or who shall go aside to ask how thou doest?
Who will have
pity on you, O Jerusalem? Who will
mourn for you? Who will
turn aside to ask about your
welfare?
Thou hast
forsaken me, saith the LORD, thou art gone backward: therefore will I stretch out my hand against thee, and destroy thee; I am
weary with
repenting.
You have
forsaken Me, declares the LORD. You have
turned your back. So I will stretch out My hand against you and I will destroy you; I am
weary of showing
compassion.
And I will
fan them with a
fan in the gates of the land; I will
bereave them of children, I will destroy my people, since they return not from their ways.
I will
scatter them with a
winnowing fork at the gates of the land. I will
bereave and destroy My people who have not
turned from their ways.
Therefore thus saith the LORD, If thou return, then will I bring thee again, and thou shalt stand before me: and if thou take forth the precious from the
vile, thou shalt be as my mouth: let them return unto thee; but return not thou unto them.
Therefore this is what the LORD says: “If you return, I will restore you; you will stand in My presence. And if you speak words that are noble instead of worthless, you will be My
spokesman. It is they who must
turn to you, but you must not
turn to them.
Thus saith the LORD;
Cursed be the man that trusteth in man, and maketh flesh his arm, and whose heart departeth from the LORD.
This is what the LORD says: “
Cursed is the man who trusts in mankind, who makes the flesh his strength and
turns his heart from the LORD.
O LORD, the hope of Israel, all that
forsake thee shall be
ashamed, and they that depart from me shall be written in the earth, because they have
forsaken the LORD, the fountain of living waters.
O LORD, the hope of Israel, all who
abandon You will be put to shame. All who
turn away will be written in the dust, for they have abandoned the LORD, the fountain of living water.
If that nation, against whom I have pronounced,
turn from their evil, I will
repent of the evil that I thought to do unto them.
But if that nation I
warned turns from its evil, then I will relent of the
disaster I had
planned to bring.
Now therefore go to, speak to the men of Judah, and to the inhabitants of Jerusalem, saying, Thus saith the LORD; Behold, I frame evil against you, and
devise a
device against you: return ye now every one from his evil way, and make your ways and your doings good.
Now therefore, tell the men of Judah and the residents of Jerusalem that this is what the LORD says: ‘Behold, I am
planning a
disaster for you and
devising a plan against you.
Turn now, each of you, from your evil ways, and correct your ways and deeds.’
Shall evil be
recompensed for good? for they have
digged a pit for my soul. Remember that I stood before thee to speak good for them, and to
turn away thy wrath from them.
Should good be repaid with evil? Yet they have
dug a pit for me. Remember how I stood before You to speak good on their behalf, to
turn Your wrath from them.
Thus saith the LORD God of Israel; Behold, I will
turn back the weapons of war that are in your hands,
wherewith ye fight against the king of Babylon, and against the Chaldeans, which
besiege you without the walls, and I will
assemble them into the midst of this city.
this is what the LORD, the God of Israel, says: ‘I will
turn against you the weapons of war in your hands, with which you are fighting the king of Babylon and the Chaldeans who
besiege you outside the wall, and I will
assemble their forces in the center of this city.
For thus saith the LORD unto the king’s house of Judah; Thou art
Gilead unto me, and the head of
Lebanon: yet surely I will make thee a wilderness, and cities which are not inhabited.
For this is what the LORD says concerning the house of the king of Judah: “You are like
Gilead to Me, like the summit of
Lebanon; but I will surely
turn you into a desert, like cities that are uninhabited.
I have seen also in the prophets of Jerusalem an
horrible thing: they commit
adultery, and walk in lies: they
strengthen also the hands of evildoers, that none
doth return from his wickedness: they are all of them unto me as
Sodom, and the inhabitants thereof as
Gomorrah.
And among the prophets of Jerusalem I have seen a
horrible thing: They commit
adultery and walk in lies. They
strengthen the hands of evildoers, so that no one
turns his back on wickedness. They are all like
Sodom to Me; the people of Jerusalem are like
Gomorrah.”
The anger of the LORD shall not return, until he have executed, and till he have performed the thoughts of his heart: in the latter days ye shall consider it perfectly.
The anger of the LORD will not turn back until He has fully accomplished the purposes of His heart. In the days to come you will understand this clearly.
But if they had stood in my counsel, and had caused my people to hear my words, then they should have turned them from their evil way, and from the evil of their doings.
But if they had stood in My council, they would have proclaimed My words to My people and turned them back from their evil ways and deeds.”
They said, Turn ye again now every one from his evil way, and from the evil of your doings, and dwell in the land that the LORD hath given unto you and to your fathers for ever and ever:
The prophets told you, ‘
Turn now, each of you, from your evil ways and deeds, and you can dwell in the land that the LORD has given to you and your fathers
forever and ever.
If so be they will
hearken, and
turn every man from his evil way, that I may
repent me of the evil, which I purpose to do unto them because of the evil of their doings.
Perhaps they will
listen and
turn—each from his evil way of life—so that I may relent of the
disaster I am
planning to bring upon them because of the evil of their deeds.
And I will be found of you, saith the LORD: and I will
turn away your captivity, and I will gather you from all the nations, and from all the places
whither I have driven you, saith the LORD; and I will bring you again into the place whence I caused you to be carried away
captive.
I will be found by you, declares the LORD, and I will restore you from captivity and gather you from all the nations and places to which I have banished you, declares the LORD. I will restore you to the place from which I sent you into exile.”
Ask ye now, and see whether a man
doth travail with child? wherefore do I see every man with his hands on his loins, as a woman in
travail, and all faces are
turned into paleness?
Ask now, and see: Can a male give birth? Why then do I see every man with his hands on his stomach like a woman in labor and every face turned pale?
The fierce anger of the LORD shall not return, until he have done it, and until he have performed the intents of his heart: in the latter days ye shall consider it.
The fierce anger of the LORD will not turn back until He has fully accomplished the purposes of His heart. In the days to come you will understand this.
Then shall the virgin
rejoice in the dance, both young men and old together: for I will
turn their
mourning into joy, and will comfort them, and make them
rejoice from their sorrow.
Then the maidens will
rejoice with dancing, young men and old as well. I will
turn their
mourning into joy, and give them comfort and joy for their sorrow.
I have surely heard Ephraim
bemoaning himself thus; Thou hast
chastised me, and I was
chastised, as a
bullock unaccustomed to the yoke:
turn thou me, and I shall be
turned; for thou art the LORD my God.
I have surely heard Ephraim’s
moaning: ‘You disciplined me severely, like an untrained
calf. Restore me, that I may return, for You are the LORD my God.
Set thee up waymarks, make thee high heaps: set thine heart toward the
highway, even the way which thou wentest:
turn again, O virgin of Israel,
turn again to these thy cities.
“Set up the roadmarks, establish the signposts. Keep the
highway in mind, the road you have traveled. Return, O Virgin Israel, return to these cities of yours.
And the measuring line shall yet go forth over against it upon the hill Gareb, and shall compass about to Goath.
The measuring line will once again stretch out straight to the hill of Gareb and then turn toward Goah.
And they have
turned unto me the back, and not the face: though I taught them, rising up early and teaching them, yet they have not
hearkened to receive instruction.
They have
turned their backs to Me and not their faces. Though I taught them again and again, they would not
listen or
respond to discipline.
And I will make an
everlasting covenant with them, that I will not
turn away from them, to do them good; but I will put my fear in their hearts, that they shall not depart from me.
I will make an
everlasting covenant with them: I will never
turn away from doing good to them, and I will put My fear in their hearts, so that they will never
turn away from Me.
But afterward they turned, and caused the servants and the handmaids, whom they had let go free, to return, and brought them into subjection for servants and for handmaids.
but later they changed their minds and took back the menservants and maidservants they had freed, and they forced them to become slaves again.
And ye were now
turned, and had done right in my sight, in
proclaiming liberty every man to his neighbour; and ye had made a covenant before me in the house which is called by my name:
Recently you
repented and did what pleased Me; each of you proclaimed freedom for his
neighbor. You made a covenant before Me in the house that bears My Name.
But ye
turned and
polluted my name, and caused every man his servant, and every man his
handmaid, whom ye had set at liberty at their pleasure, to return, and brought them into subjection, to be unto you for servants and for handmaids.
But now you have changed your minds and
profaned My name. Each of you has taken back the menservants and maidservants whom you had set at liberty to go wherever they wanted, and you have again forced them to be your slaves.
I have sent also unto you all my servants the prophets, rising up early and sending them, saying, Return ye now every man from his evil way, and
amend your doings, and go not after other gods to serve them, and ye shall dwell in the land which I have given to you and to your fathers: but ye have not inclined your ear, nor
hearkened unto me.
Again and again I have sent you all My servants the prophets,
proclaiming: ‘
Turn now, each of you, from your wicked ways, and correct your actions. Do not go after other gods to serve them. Live in the land that I have given to you and your fathers.’ But you have not inclined your ear or
listened to Me.
It may be that the house of Judah will hear all the evil which I purpose to do unto them; that they may return every man from his evil way; that I may
forgive their iniquity and their sin.
Perhaps when the people of Judah hear about all the
calamity I plan to bring upon them, each of them will
turn from his wicked way. Then I will
forgive their iniquity and their sin.”
It may be they will present their
supplication before the LORD, and will return every one from his evil way: for great is the anger and the
fury that the LORD hath pronounced against this people.
Perhaps they will bring their petition before the LORD, and each one will
turn from his wicked way; for great are the anger and
fury that the LORD has pronounced against this people.”
Now it came to pass, when they had heard all the words, they were afraid both one and other, and said unto
Baruch, We will surely tell the king of all these words.
When they had heard all these words, they
turned to one another in fear and said to
Baruch, “Surely we must report all these words to the king.”
And, behold, all the women that are left in the king of Judah’s house shall be brought forth to the king of Babylon’s princes, and those women shall say, Thy friends have set thee on, and have prevailed against thee: thy feet are sunk in the
mire, and they are
turned away back.
All the women who remain in the palace of the king of Judah will be brought out to the officials of the king of Babylon, and those women will say: ‘They misled you and overcame you— those trusted friends of yours. Your feet
sank into the
mire, and they deserted you.’
Even they sent, and took Jeremiah out of the court of the prison, and committed him unto Gedaliah the son of
Ahikam the son of Shaphan, that he should carry him home: so he dwelt among the people.
had Jeremiah brought from the
courtyard of the guard, and they
turned him over to Gedaliah son of
Ahikam, the son of Shaphan, to take him home. So Jeremiah remained among his own people.
Now while he was not yet gone back, he said, Go back also to Gedaliah the son of
Ahikam the son of Shaphan, whom the king of Babylon hath made governor over the cities of Judah, and dwell with him among the people: or go
wheresoever it seemeth convenient unto thee to go. So the captain of the guard gave him
victuals and a reward, and let him go.
But before Jeremiah
turned to go, Nebuzaradan added, “Return to Gedaliah son of
Ahikam, the son of Shaphan, whom the king of Babylon has appointed over the cities of Judah, and stay with him among the people, or go
anywhere else that seems right.” Then the captain of the guard gave him a
ration and a gift and released him.
So all the people that
Ishmael had carried away
captive from
Mizpah cast about and returned, and went unto Johanan the son of Kareah.
and all the people whom
Ishmael had taken
captive at
Mizpah turned and went over to Johanan son of Kareah.
But they
hearkened not, nor inclined their ear to
turn from their wickedness, to burn no incense unto other gods.
But they did not
listen or
incline their ears; they did not
turn from their wickedness or stop burning incense to other gods.
Wherefore have I seen them dismayed and
turned away back? and their mighty ones are beaten down, and are fled
apace, and look not back: for fear was round about, saith the LORD.
Why am I seeing this? They are
terrified, they are retreating; their warriors are defeated, they
flee in
haste without looking back; terror is on every side!” declares the LORD.
Also her
hired men are in the midst of her like
fatted bullocks; for they also are
turned back, and are fled away together: they did not stand, because the day of their
calamity was come upon them, and the time of their
visitation.
Even the
mercenaries among her are like
fattened calves. They too will
turn back; together they will
flee, they will not stand their ground, for the day of
calamity is coming upon them— the time of their punishment.
At the noise of the stamping of the
hoofs of his strong horses, at the
rushing of his
chariots, and at the
rumbling of his wheels, the fathers shall not look back to their children for feebleness of hands;
They shall
howl, saying, How is it broken down! how hath Moab
turned the back with shame! so shall Moab be a
derision and a dismaying to all them about him.
“How
shattered it is! How they
wail! How Moab has
turned his back in shame! Moab has become an object of
ridicule and
horror to all those around him.”
Flee ye,
turn back, dwell deep, O inhabitants of Dedan; for I will bring the
calamity of
Esau upon him, the time that I will visit him.
Turn and run! Lie low, O dwellers of Dedan, for I will bring
disaster on
Esau at the time I
punish him.
Damascus is waxed feeble, and
turneth herself to
flee, and fear hath seized on her:
anguish and sorrows have taken her, as a woman in
travail.
Damascus has become feeble; she has
turned to
flee.
Panic has gripped her;
anguish and pain have seized her like a woman in labor.
They shall ask the way to
Zion with their faces
thitherward, saying, Come, and let us join ourselves to the LORD in a perpetual covenant that shall not be forgotten.
They will ask the way to
Zion and
turn their faces toward it. They will come and join themselves to the LORD in an
everlasting covenant that will never be forgotten.
My people hath been lost sheep: their
shepherds have caused them to go
astray, they have
turned them away on the mountains: they have gone from mountain to hill, they have forgotten their restingplace.
My people are lost sheep; their
shepherds have led them
astray, causing them to
roam the mountains. They have
wandered from mountain to hill; they have forgotten their resting place.
Cut off the
sower from Babylon, and him that handleth the
sickle in the time of harvest: for fear of the
oppressing sword they shall
turn every one to his people, and they shall
flee every one to his own land.
Cut off the
sower from Babylon, and the one who wields the
sickle at harvest time. In the face of the
oppressor’s sword, each will
turn to his own people, each will
flee to his own land.
Behold, I am against thee, O destroying mountain, saith the LORD, which destroyest all the earth: and I will stretch out mine hand upon thee, and roll thee down from the rocks, and will make thee a burnt mountain.
“Behold, I am against you, O destroying mountain, you who
devastate the whole earth, declares the LORD. I will stretch out My hand against you; I will roll you over the cliffs and
turn you into a
charred mountain.
Jerusalem hath
grievously sinned; therefore she is removed: all that honoured her
despise her, because they have seen her nakedness:
yea, she sigheth, and
turneth backward.
Jerusalem has
sinned greatly; therefore she has become an object of
scorn. All who honored her now
despise her, for they have seen her nakedness; she herself groans and
turns away.
From above hath he sent fire into my bones, and it prevaileth against them: he hath spread a net for my feet, he hath
turned me back: he hath made me
desolate and
faint all the day.
He sent fire from on high, and it overpowered my bones. He spread a net for my feet and
turned me back. He made me
desolate,
faint all the day long.
Behold, O LORD; for I am in distress: my
bowels are troubled; mine heart is
turned within me; for I have
grievously rebelled: abroad the sword bereaveth, at home there is as death.
See, O LORD, how distressed I am! I am
churning within; my heart is pounding within me, for I have been most
rebellious. Outside, the sword bereaves; inside, there is death.
Thy prophets have seen vain and
foolish things for thee: and they have not discovered thine iniquity, to
turn away thy captivity; but have seen for thee false burdens and causes of
banishment.
The visions of your prophets were empty and
deceptive; they did not
expose your guilt to ward off your captivity. The burdens they envisioned for you were empty and misleading.
Surely against me is he turned; he turneth his hand against me all the day.
Indeed, He keeps turning His hand against me all day long.
He hath
turned aside my ways, and pulled me in pieces: he hath made me
desolate.
He forced me off my path and
tore me to pieces; He left me without help.
