And
Samson said unto them, Though ye have done this, yet will I be
avenged of you, and after that I will cease.
And
Samson told them, “Because you have done this, I will not rest
until I have taken
vengeance upon you.”
And it was told the Gazites, saying,
Samson is come
hither. And they compassed him in, and laid wait for him all night in the gate of the city, and were quiet all the night, saying, In the morning, when it is day, we shall kill him.
When the Gazites heard that
Samson was there, they surrounded that place and lay in wait for him all night at the city gate. They were quiet throughout the night, saying, “Let us wait
until dawn; then we will kill him.”
And
Samson lay till
midnight, and arose at
midnight, and took the doors of the gate of the city, and the two posts, and went away with them, bar and all, and put them upon his shoulders, and carried them up to the top of an hill that is before
Hebron.
But
Samson lay there only
until midnight, when he got up, took hold of the doors of the city gate and both gateposts, and pulled them out, bar and all. Then he put them on his shoulders and took them to the top of the mountain overlooking
Hebron.
And it came to pass, when she pressed him daily with her words, and urged him, so that his soul was
vexed unto death;
Finally, after she had pressed him daily with her words and
pleaded until he was sick to death,
And the children of
Dan set up the
graven image: and
Jonathan, the son of Gershom, the son of
Manasseh, he and his sons were priests to the tribe of
Dan until the day of the captivity of the land.
The Danites set up idols for themselves, and
Jonathan son of Gershom, the son of Moses, and his sons were priests for the tribe of
Dan until the day of the captivity of the land.
And he arose early in the morning on the fifth day to depart: and the
damsel’s father said, Comfort thine heart, I pray thee. And they
tarried until afternoon, and they did eat both of them.
On the fifth day, he got up early in the morning to depart, but the
girl’s father said, “Please refresh your heart.” So they waited
until late
afternoon and the two of them
ate.
But the men would not
hearken to him: so the man took his
concubine, and brought her forth unto them; and they knew her, and
abused her all the night
until the morning: and when the day began to spring, they let her go.
But the men would not
listen to him. So the
Levite took his
concubine and sent her outside to them, and they raped her and
abused her throughout the night, and at
dawn they let her go.
Then came the woman in the
dawning of the day, and fell down at the door of the man’s house where her lord was, till it was light.
Early that morning, the woman went back to the house where her master was staying,
collapsed at the
doorway, and lay there
until it was light.
And it was so, that all that saw it said, There was no such deed done nor seen from the day that the children of Israel came up out of the land of Egypt unto this day: consider of it, take advice, and speak your minds.
And
everyone who saw it said, “Nothing like this has been seen or done from the day the Israelites came out of the land of Egypt
until this day. Think it over, take counsel, and speak up!”
(And the children of Israel went up and
wept before the LORD
until even, and asked counsel of the LORD, saying, Shall I go up again to battle against the children of Benjamin my brother? And the LORD said, Go up against him.)
They went up and
wept before the LORD
until evening, inquiring of Him, “Should we again draw near for battle against our brothers the Benjamites?” And the LORD answered, “Go up against them.”
Then all the children of Israel, and all the people, went up, and came unto the house of God, and
wept, and sat there before the LORD, and fasted that day
until even, and offered burnt offerings and peace offerings before the LORD.
Then the Israelites, all the people, went up to
Bethel, where they sat
weeping before the LORD. That day they fasted
until evening and presented burnt offerings and peace offerings to the LORD.
And the people came to the house of God, and abode there till even before God, and lifted up their voices, and
wept sore;
So the people came to
Bethel and sat there before God
until evening, lifting up their voices and
weeping bitterly.
So they two went
until they came to
Bethlehem. And it came to pass, when they were come to
Bethlehem, that all the city was moved about them, and they said, Is this
Naomi?
And she said, I pray you, let me
glean and gather after the reapers among the
sheaves: so she came, and hath continued even from the morning
until now, that she
tarried a little in the house.
She has said, ‘Please let me
glean and gather among the
sheaves after the harvesters.’ So she came out and has continued from morning
until now, except that she rested a short time in the shelter.”
So she
gleaned in the field
until even, and beat out that she had
gleaned: and it was about an
ephah of barley.
So
Ruth gathered grain in the field
until evening. And when she beat out what she had
gleaned, it was about an
ephah of barley.
And
Ruth the
Moabitess said, He said unto me also, Thou shalt keep fast by my young men,
until they have ended all my harvest.
Then
Ruth the
Moabitess said, “He also told me, ‘Stay with my young men
until they have finished gathering all my harvest.’”
So she kept fast by the maidens of Boaz to
glean unto the end of barley harvest and of wheat harvest; and dwelt with her mother in law.
So
Ruth stayed close to the servant girls of Boaz to
glean grain
until the barley and wheat harvests were finished. And she lived with her mother-in-law.
Wash
thyself therefore, and
anoint thee, and put thy
raiment upon thee, and get thee down to the floor: but make not
thyself known unto the man,
until he shall have done eating and drinking.
Therefore wash
yourself, put on
perfume, and wear your best clothes. Go down to the
threshing floor, but do not let the man know you are there
until he has finished eating and drinking.
Tarry this night, and it shall be in the morning, that if he will perform unto thee the part of a
kinsman, well; let him do the
kinsman’s part: but if he will not do the part of a
kinsman to thee, then will I do the part of a
kinsman to thee, as the LORD liveth: lie down
until the morning.
Stay here
tonight, and in the morning, if he wants to
redeem you, good. Let him
redeem you. But if he does not want to
redeem you, as surely as the LORD lives, I will. Now lie here
until morning.”
And she lay at his feet until the morning: and she rose up before one could know another. And he said, Let it not be known that a woman came into the floor.
So she lay down at his feet
until morning, but she got up before
anyone else could recognize her. Then Boaz said, “Do not let it be known that a woman came to the
threshing floor.”
Then said she, Sit still, my daughter, until thou know how the matter will fall: for the man will not be in rest, until he have finished the thing this day.
“Wait, my daughter,” said
Naomi, “
until you find out how things go, for he will not rest unless he has resolved the matter
today.”
And as he did so year by year, when she went up to the house of the LORD, so she
provoked her; therefore she
wept, and did not eat.
And this went on year after year. Whenever
Hannah went up to the house of the LORD, her rival
taunted her
until she
wept and would not eat.
But
Hannah went not up; for she said unto her husband, I will not go up
until the child be
weaned, and then I will bring him, that he may appear before the LORD, and there
abide for ever.
but
Hannah did not go. “After the boy is
weaned,” she said to her husband, “I will take him to appear before the LORD and to stay there permanently.”
And Elkanah her husband said unto her, Do what seemeth thee good;
tarry until thou have
weaned him; only the LORD establish his word. So the woman abode, and gave her son
suck until she
weaned him.
“Do what you think is best,” her husband Elkanah replied, “and stay here
until you have
weaned him. Only may the LORD
confirm His word.” So
Hannah stayed and
nursed her son
until she had
weaned him.
And Samuel lay
until the morning, and opened the doors of the house of the LORD. And Samuel feared to
shew Eli the vision.
Samuel lay down
until the morning; then he opened the doors of the house of the LORD. He was afraid to tell
Eli the vision,
And the men of Israel went out of Mizpeh, and pursued the Philistines, and
smote them,
until they came under Beth-
car.
Then the men of Israel charged out of
Mizpah and pursued the Philistines, striking them down all the way to an area below Beth-
car.
According to all the works which they have done since the day that I brought them up out of Egypt even unto this day,
wherewith they have
forsaken me, and served other gods, so do they also unto thee.
Just as they have done from the day I brought them up out of Egypt
until this day,
forsaking Me and serving other gods, so they are doing to you.
As soon as ye be come into the city, ye shall
straightway find him, before he go up to the high place to eat: for the people will not eat
until he come, because he
doth bless the sacrifice; and afterwards they eat that be
bidden. Now therefore get you up; for about this time ye shall find him.
As soon as you enter the city, you will find him before he goes up to the high place to eat. The people will not eat
until he comes, because he must
bless the sacrifice; after that, the guests will eat. Go up at once; you will find him.”
Then shalt thou go on forward from thence, and thou shalt come to the plain of
Tabor, and there shall meet thee three men going up to God to
Bethel, one carrying three kids, and another carrying three
loaves of bread, and another carrying a
bottle of wine:
Then you will go on from there
until you come to the Oak of
Tabor. Three men going up to God at
Bethel will meet you there, one carrying three young goats, another carrying three
loaves of bread, and another carrying a skin of wine.
And thou shalt go down before me to
Gilgal; and, behold, I will come down unto thee, to offer burnt offerings, and to sacrifice sacrifices of peace offerings: seven days shalt thou
tarry, till I come to thee, and
shew thee what thou shalt do.
And you shall go before me to
Gilgal, and surely I will come to you to offer burnt offerings and to sacrifice peace offerings. Wait seven days
until I come to you and show you what you are to do.”
And it was so on the
morrow, that Saul put the people in three companies; and they came into the midst of the host in the morning watch, and
slew the
Ammonites until the heat of the day: and it came to pass, that they which remained were scattered, so that two of them were not left together.
The next day Saul organized the troops into three divisions, and during the morning watch they invaded the camp of the
Ammonites and slaughtered them,
until the hottest part of the day. And the survivors were so scattered that no two of them were left together.
And now, behold, the king walketh before you: and I am old and grayheaded; and, behold, my sons are with you: and I have walked before you from my
childhood unto this day.
Now here is the king walking before you, and I am old and gray, and my sons are here with you. I have walked before you from my youth until this day.
If they say thus unto us,
Tarry until we come to you; then we will stand still in our place, and will not go up unto them.
If they say, ‘Wait until we come to you,’ then we will stay where we are and will not go up to them.
And the men of Israel were distressed that day: for Saul had
adjured the people, saying,
Cursed be the man that eateth any food
until evening, that I may be
avenged on mine enemies. So none of the people tasted any food.
Now the men of Israel were in distress that day, for Saul had placed the troops under an oath, saying, “
Cursed is the man who eats any food before evening, before I have taken
vengeance on my enemies.” So none of the troops tasted any food.
And Saul said, Let us go down after the Philistines by night, and
spoil them
until the morning light, and let us not leave a man of them. And they said, Do
whatsoever seemeth good unto thee. Then said the priest, Let us draw near
hither unto God.
And Saul said, “Let us go down after the Philistines by night and
plunder them
until dawn, leaving no man alive!” “Do what seems good to you,” the troops replied. But the priest said, “We must
consult God here.”
Then Saul struck down the
Amalekites all the way from
Havilah to Shur, which is east of Egypt.
And the LORD sent thee on a journey, and said, Go and utterly destroy the sinners the
Amalekites, and fight against them
until they be consumed.
and sent you on a mission, saying, ‘Go and
devote to destruction the sinful
Amalekites. Fight against them
until you have
wiped them out.’
And Samuel came no more to see Saul
until the day of his death: nevertheless Samuel
mourned for Saul: and the LORD
repented that he had made Saul king over Israel.
And to the day of his death, Samuel never again visited Saul. Samuel
mourned for Saul, and the LORD
regretted that He had made Saul king over Israel.
And Samuel said unto
Jesse, Are here all thy children? And he said, There remaineth yet the youngest, and, behold, he keepeth the sheep. And Samuel said unto
Jesse, Send and
fetch him: for we will not sit down till he come
hither.
And Samuel asked him, “Are these all the sons you have?” “There is still the youngest,”
Jesse replied, “but he is tending the sheep.” “Send for him,” Samuel replied. “For we will not sit down to eat
until he arrives.”
And the men of Israel and of Judah arose, and
shouted, and pursued the Philistines,
until thou come to the valley, and to the gates of
Ekron. And the wounded of the Philistines fell down by the way to Shaaraim, even unto
Gath, and unto
Ekron.
Then the men of Israel and Judah charged forward with a
shout and pursued the Philistines to the entrance of
Gath and to the gates of
Ekron. And the bodies of the Philistines were
strewn along the Shaaraim road to
Gath and
Ekron.
But
Jonathan Saul’s son delighted much in David: and
Jonathan told David, saying, Saul my father seeketh to kill thee: now therefore, I pray thee, take
heed to
thyself until the morning, and
abide in a secret place, and hide
thyself:
so he
warned David, saying, “My father Saul intends to kill you. Be on your guard in the morning; find a secret place and hide there.
And he went thither to Naioth in
Ramah: and the Spirit of God was upon him also, and he went on, and
prophesied,
until he came to Naioth in
Ramah.
So Saul went to Naioth in
Ramah. But the Spirit of God came upon even Saul, and he walked along
prophesying until he came to Naioth in
Ramah.
And David said unto
Jonathan, Behold, to
morrow is the new moon, and I should not fail to sit with the king at meat: but let me go, that I may hide myself in the field unto the third day at even.
So David told him, “Look,
tomorrow is the New Moon, and I am supposed to
dine with the king. Instead, let me go and hide in the field
until the third evening from now.
And as soon as the
lad was gone, David arose out of a place toward the south, and fell on his face to the ground, and bowed himself three times: and they
kissed one another, and
wept one with another,
until David exceeded.
When the young man had gone, David got up from the south side of the stone, fell facedown, and bowed three times. Then he and
Jonathan kissed each other and
wept together—though David
wept more.
And David went thence to Mizpeh of Moab: and he said unto the king of Moab, Let my father and my mother, I pray thee, come forth, and be with you, till I know what God will do for me.
From there David went to Mizpeh of Moab, where he said to the king of Moab, “Please let my father and mother stay with you until I learn what God will do for me.”
So and more also do God unto the enemies of David, if I leave of all that
pertain to him by the morning light any that pisseth against the wall.
May God
punish David, and ever so severely, if I let one of Nabal’s men
survive until morning.”
And
Abigail came to Nabal; and, behold, he held a feast in his house, like the feast of a king; and Nabal’s heart was
merry within him, for he was very
drunken: wherefore she told him nothing, less or more,
until the morning light.
When
Abigail returned to Nabal, there he was in the house, holding a feast fit for a king, in high spirits and very
drunk. So she told him nothing
until morning light.
Then said the princes of the Philistines, What do these Hebrews here? And Achish said unto the princes of the Philistines, Is not this David, the servant of Saul the king of Israel, which hath been with me these days, or these years, and I have found no fault in him since he fell unto me unto this day?
Then the commanders of the Philistines asked, “What about these Hebrews?” Achish replied, “Is this not David, the servant of King Saul of Israel? He has been with me all these days, even years, and from the day he defected
until today I have found no fault in him.”
Then Achish called David, and said unto him, Surely, as the LORD liveth, thou hast been upright, and thy going out and thy coming in with me in the host is good in my sight: for I have not found evil in thee since the day of thy coming unto me unto this day: nevertheless the lords favour thee not.
So Achish summoned David and told him, “As surely as the LORD lives, you have been upright in my sight, and it seems right that you should march in and out with me in the army, because I have found no fault in you from the day you came to me until this day. But you have no favor in the sight of the leaders.
And David said unto Achish, But what have I done? and what hast thou found in thy servant so long as I have been with thee unto this day, that I may not go fight against the enemies of my lord the king?
“But what have I done?” David replied. “What have you found against your servant, from the day I came to you
until today, to keep me from going along to fight against the enemies of my lord the king?”
Then David and the people that were with him lifted up their voice and
wept,
until they had no more power to
weep.
So David and the troops with him lifted up their voices and
wept until they had no strength left to
weep.
And David
smote them from the
twilight even unto the evening of the next day: and there escaped not a man of them, save four hundred young men, which
rode upon camels, and fled.
And David struck them down from
twilight until the evening of the next day. Not a man escaped, except four hundred young men who fled, riding off on camels.
And they
mourned, and
wept, and fasted
until even, for Saul, and for
Jonathan his son, and for the people of the LORD, and for the house of Israel; because they were fallen by the sword.
They
mourned and
wept and fasted
until evening for Saul and his son
Jonathan, and for the people of the LORD and the house of Israel, because they had fallen by the sword.
And
Joab said, As God liveth, unless thou hadst spoken, surely then in the morning the people had gone up every one from following his brother.
“As surely as God lives,”
Joab replied, “if you had not spoken up, the troops would have continued pursuing their brothers
until morning.”
And the Beerothites fled to Gittaim, and were sojourners there until this day.)
because the Beerothites fled to Gittaim and have lived there as foreigners to this day.
And David did so, as the LORD had commanded him; and
smote the Philistines from Geba
until thou come to
Gazer.
So David did as the LORD had commanded him, and he struck down the Philistines all the way from
Gibeon to
Gezer.
Whereas I have not dwelt in any house since the time that I brought up the children of Israel out of Egypt, even to this day, but have walked in a tent and in a tabernacle.
For I have not dwelt in a house from the day I brought the Israelites up out of Egypt until this day, but I have moved about with a tent as My dwelling.
When they told it unto David, he sent to meet them, because the men were greatly
ashamed: and the king said,
Tarry at
Jericho until your beards be grown, and then return.
When this was reported to David, he sent messengers to meet the men, since they had been thoroughly
humiliated. The king told them, “Stay in
Jericho until your beards have grown back, and then return.”
Now
Absalom had commanded his servants, saying, Mark ye now when Amnon’s heart is
merry with wine, and when I say unto you,
Smite Amnon; then kill him, fear not: have not I commanded you? be
courageous and be
valiant.
Now
Absalom had ordered his young men, “Watch Amnon
until his heart is
merry with wine, and when I order you to strike Amnon down, you are to kill him. Do not be afraid. Have I not commanded you? Be
courageous and
valiant!”
And lo
Zadok also, and all the Levites were with him, bearing the ark of the covenant of God: and they set down the ark of God; and
Abiathar went up,
until all the people had done passing out of the city.
Zadok was also there, and all the Levites with him were carrying the ark of the covenant of God. And they set down the ark of God, and
Abiathar offered sacrifices
until the people had passed out of the city.
See, I will
tarry in the plain of the wilderness,
until there come word from you to
certify me.
See, I will wait at the fords of the wilderness until word comes from you to inform me.”
Moreover, if he be
gotten into a city, then shall all Israel bring ropes to that city, and we will draw it into the river,
until there be not one small stone found there.
If he retreats to a city, all Israel will bring ropes to that city, and we will
drag it down to the valley
until not even a
pebble can be found.”
Now therefore arise, go forth, and speak
comfortably unto thy servants: for I
swear by the LORD, if thou go not forth, there will not
tarry one with thee this night: and that will be worse unto thee than all the evil that
befell thee from thy youth
until now.
Now therefore get up! Go out and speak comfort to your servants, for I
swear by the LORD that if you do not go out, not a man will remain with you
tonight. This will be worse for you than all the
adversity that has
befallen you from your youth
until now!”
And Mephibosheth the son of Saul came down to meet the king, and had neither dressed his feet, nor
trimmed his
beard, nor washed his clothes, from the day the king departed
until the day he came again in peace.
Then Mephibosheth, Saul’s grandson, went down to meet the king. He had not cared for his feet or
trimmed his
mustache or washed his clothes from the day the king had left
until the day he returned safely.
And David came to his house at Jerusalem; and the king took the ten women his concubines, whom he had left to keep the house, and put them in ward, and fed them, but went not in unto them. So they were shut up unto the day of their death, living in
widowhood.
When David returned to his palace in Jerusalem, he took the ten concubines he had left to care for the palace, and he placed them in a house under guard. He provided for them, but he no longer
slept with them. They were confined
until the day of their death, living as widows.
And Rizpah the daughter of Aiah took
sackcloth, and spread it for her upon the rock, from the beginning of harvest
until water dropped upon them out of heaven, and suffered neither the birds of the air to rest on them by day, nor the beasts of the field by night.
And Rizpah the daughter of Aiah took
sackcloth and spread it out for herself on a rock. From the beginning of the harvest
until the rain from heaven poured down on the bodies, she did not allow the birds of the air to rest on them by day, nor the beasts of the field by night.
I have pursued mine enemies, and destroyed them; and turned not again until I had consumed them.
I pursued my enemies and destroyed them; I did not turn back until they were consumed.
He arose, and
smote the Philistines
until his hand was
weary, and his hand
clave unto the sword: and the LORD wrought a great victory that day; and the people returned after him only to
spoil.
but
Eleazar stood his ground and struck the Philistines
until his hand grew
weary and
stuck to his sword. The LORD brought about a great victory that day. Then the troops returned to him, but only to
plunder the dead.
So the LORD sent a
pestilence upon Israel from the morning even to the time appointed: and there died of the people from
Dan even to Beer-
sheba seventy thousand men.
So the LORD sent a plague upon Israel from that morning
until the appointed time, and seventy thousand of the people from
Dan to
Beersheba died.
And Solomon made affinity with Pharaoh king of Egypt, and took Pharaoh’s daughter, and brought her into the city of David, until he had made an end of building his own house, and the house of the LORD, and the wall of Jerusalem round about.
Later, Solomon formed an alliance with Pharaoh king of Egypt by marrying his daughter. Solomon brought her to the City of David until he had finished building his palace and the house of the LORD, as well as the wall around Jerusalem.
Only the people sacrificed in high places, because there was no house built unto the name of the LORD, until those days.
The people, however, were still sacrificing on the high places because a house for the Name of the LORD had not yet been built.
Thou knowest how that David my father could not build an house unto the name of the LORD his God for the wars which were about him on every side, until the LORD put them under the soles of his feet.
“As you are well aware, due to the wars
waged on all sides against my father David, he could not build a house for the Name of the LORD his God
until the LORD had put his enemies under his feet.
And the whole house he overlaid with gold,
until he had finished all the house: also the whole altar that was by the
oracle he overlaid with gold.
So he overlaid with gold the whole interior of the temple, until everything was completely finished. He also overlaid with gold the entire altar that belonged to the inner sanctuary.
Howbeit I believed not the words,
until I came, and mine eyes had seen it: and, behold, the half was not told me: thy wisdom and prosperity exceedeth the fame which I heard.
But I did not believe these things until I came and saw with my own eyes. Indeed, not even half was told to me. Your wisdom and prosperity have far exceeded the report I heard.
(For six months did
Joab remain there with all Israel,
until he had cut off every male in
Edom:)
Joab and all Israel had stayed there six months,
until he had killed every male in
Edom.
Solomon sought therefore to kill
Jeroboam. And
Jeroboam arose, and fled into Egypt, unto
Shishak king of Egypt, and was in Egypt
until the death of Solomon.
Solomon therefore sought to kill
Jeroboam. But
Jeroboam arose and fled to Egypt, to
Shishak king of Egypt, where he remained
until the death of Solomon.
Therefore, behold, I will bring evil upon the house of
Jeroboam, and will cut off from
Jeroboam him that pisseth against the wall, and him that is shut up and left in Israel, and will take away the
remnant of the house of
Jeroboam, as a man taketh away dung, till it be all gone.
Because of all this, behold, I am bringing
disaster on the house of
Jeroboam: I will cut off from
Jeroboam every male, both slave and free, in Israel; I will burn up the house of
Jeroboam as one burns up dung
until it is gone!
And it came to pass, when he reigned, that he
smote all the house of
Jeroboam; he left not to
Jeroboam any that breathed,
until he had destroyed him, according unto the saying of the LORD, which he spake by his servant
Ahijah the Shilonite:
As soon as
Baasha became king, he struck down the entire household of
Jeroboam. He did not leave to
Jeroboam anyone that breathed, but destroyed them all according to the word that the LORD had spoken through His servant
Ahijah the Shilonite,
For thus saith the LORD God of Israel, The barrel of meal shall not waste, neither shall the
cruse of oil fail,
until the day that the LORD sendeth rain upon the earth.
for this is what the LORD, the God of Israel, says: ‘The
jar of flour will not be exhausted and the
jug of oil will not run dry
until the day the LORD sends rain upon the face of the earth.’”
And it came to pass after these things, that the son of the woman, the
mistress of the house, fell sick; and his sickness was so
sore, that there was no breath left in him.
Later, the son of the woman who owned the house became ill, and his sickness grew worse and worse, until no breath remained in him.
And they took the
bullock which was given them, and they dressed it, and called on the name of
Baal from morning even
until noon, saying, O
Baal, hear us. But there was no voice, nor any that answered. And they
leaped upon the altar which was made.
And they took the bull that was given them, prepared it, and called on the name of
Baal from morning
until noon,
shouting, “O
Baal, answer us!” But there was no sound, and no one answered as they
leaped around the altar they had made.
And they
cried aloud, and cut themselves after their manner with
knives and lancets, till the blood
gushed out upon them.
So they
shouted louder and cut themselves with
knives and lances, as was their custom,
until the blood
gushed over them.
And it came to pass, when
midday was past, and they
prophesied until the time of the offering of the evening sacrifice, that there was neither voice, nor any to answer, nor any that regarded.
Midday passed, and they kept on
raving until the time of the evening sacrifice. But there was no
response; no one answered, no one paid attention.
And he arose, and did eat and drink, and went in the strength of that meat forty days and forty nights unto
Horeb the mount of God.
So he got up and
ate and
drank. And strengthened by that food, he walked forty days and forty nights
until he reached
Horeb, the mountain of God.
And
Zedekiah the son of Chenaanah made him horns of iron: and he said, Thus saith the LORD, With these shalt thou
push the Syrians,
until thou have consumed them.
Now
Zedekiah son of Chenaanah had made for himself iron horns and declared, “This is what the LORD says: ‘With these you shall
gore the Arameans
until they are finished off.’”
And say, Thus saith the king, Put this fellow in the prison, and feed him with bread of
affliction and with water of
affliction,
until I come in peace.
and tell them that this is what the king says: ‘Put this man in prison and feed him only bread and water until I return safely.’”
And they beat down the cities, and on every good piece of land cast every man his stone, and filled it; and they stopped all the wells of water, and felled all the good trees: only in Kir-haraseth left they the stones thereof;
howbeit the slingers went about it, and
smote it.
They destroyed the cities, and each man threw stones on every good field
until it was covered. They stopped up every spring and cut down every good tree. Only Kir-haraseth was left with stones in place, but men with
slings surrounded it and attacked it as well.
And when he had taken him, and brought him to his mother, he sat on her knees till
noon, and then died.
After the servant had
picked him up and carried him to his mother, the boy sat on her
lap until noon, and then he died.
And there was a great famine in Samaria: and, behold, they besieged it,
until an
ass’s head was sold for
fourscore pieces of silver, and the fourth part of a
cab of
dove’s dung for five pieces of silver.
So there was a great famine in Samaria. Indeed, they besieged the city so long that a
donkey’s head sold for eighty shekels of silver, and a quarter
cab of
dove’s dung sold for five shekels of silver.
And there were four
leprous men at the entering in of the gate: and they said one to another, Why sit we here
until we die?
Now there were four men with
leprosy at the entrance of the city gate, and they said to one another, “Why just sit here
until we die?
Then they said one to another, We do not well: this day is a day of good
tidings, and we hold our peace: if we
tarry till the morning light, some mischief will come upon us: now therefore come, that we may go and tell the king’s household.
Finally, they said to one another, “We are not doing what is right.
Today is a day of good news. If we are silent and wait
until morning light, our sin will overtake us. Now, therefore, let us go and tell the king’s household.”
And when the king asked the woman, she told him. So the king appointed unto her a certain officer, saying, Restore all that was hers, and all the fruits of the field since the day that she left the land, even until now.
When the king asked the woman, she confirmed it. So the king appointed for her an officer, saying, “Restore all that was hers, along with all the proceeds of the field from the day that she left the country until now.”
Elisha fixed his
gaze steadily on him
until Hazael became uncomfortable. Then the man of God began to
weep.
And there came a
messenger, and told him, saying, They have brought the heads of the king’s sons. And he said, Lay ye them in two heaps at the entering in of the gate
until the morning.
When the
messenger arrived, he told
Jehu, “They have brought the heads of the sons of the king.” And
Jehu ordered, “Pile them in two heaps at the entrance of the gate
until morning.”
So
Jehu slew all that remained of the house of
Ahab in
Jezreel, and all his great men, and his kinsfolks, and his priests,
until he left him none remaining.
So
Jehu killed
everyone in
Jezreel who remained of the house of
Ahab, as well as all his great men and close friends and priests, leaving him without a single
survivor.
And when he came to Samaria, he
slew all that remained unto
Ahab in Samaria, till he had destroyed him, according to the saying of the LORD, which he spake to
Elijah.
When
Jehu came to Samaria, he struck down
everyone belonging to
Ahab who remained there,
until he had destroyed them, according to the word that the LORD had spoken to
Elijah.
And he said, Open the window eastward. And he opened it. Then
Elisha said, Shoot. And he shot. And he said, The
arrow of the LORD’S
deliverance, and the
arrow of
deliverance from Syria: for thou shalt
smite the Syrians in Aphek, till thou have consumed them.
“Open the east window,” said
Elisha. So he opened it and
Elisha said, “Shoot!” So he shot. And
Elisha declared: “This is the LORD’s
arrow of victory, the
arrow of victory over
Aram, for you shall strike the Arameans in Aphek
until you have put an end to them.”
And the man of God was
wroth with him, and said, Thou shouldest have
smitten five or six times; then hadst thou
smitten Syria till thou hadst consumed it: whereas now thou shalt
smite Syria but
thrice.
But the man of God was
angry with him and said, “You should have struck the ground five or six times. Then you would have struck down
Aram until you had put an end to it. But now you will strike down
Aram only three times.”
And the LORD
smote the king, so that he was a
leper unto the day of his death, and dwelt in a several house. And Jotham the king’s son was over the house, judging the people of the land.
And the LORD
afflicted the king with
leprosy until the day he died, so that he lived in a separate house while his son Jotham had charge of the palace and governed the people of the land.
And the LORD rejected all the seed of Israel, and
afflicted them, and delivered them into the hand of spoilers,
until he had cast them out of his sight.
So the LORD rejected all the descendants of Israel. He
afflicted them and delivered them into the hands of plunderers,
until He had banished them from His presence.
