Then Joseph could not
refrain himself before
all them that stood by him; and he
cried, Cause every man to go out from me. And there stood no man with him, while Joseph made himself known unto his brethren.
Then Joseph could no longer control himself before
all his attendants, and he
cried out, “Send
everyone away from me!” So none of them were with Joseph when he made himself known to his brothers.
So now it was not you that sent me
hither, but God: and he hath made me a father to Pharaoh, and lord of
all his house, and a ruler throughout
all the land of Egypt.
Therefore it was not you who sent me here, but God, who has made me a father to Pharaoh—lord of all his household and ruler over all the land of Egypt.
Haste ye, and go up to my father, and say unto him, Thus saith thy son Joseph, God hath made me lord of
all Egypt: come down unto me,
tarry not:
Now return quickly to my father and tell him, ‘This is what your son Joseph says: God has made me lord of all Egypt. Come down to me without delay.
And thou shalt dwell in the land of
Goshen, and thou shalt be near unto me, thou, and thy children, and thy children’s children, and thy flocks, and thy herds, and
all that thou hast:
You shall settle in the land of
Goshen and be near me—you and your children and grandchildren, your flocks and herds, and everything you own.
And there will I
nourish thee; for yet there are five years of famine; lest thou, and thy household, and
all that thou hast, come to poverty.
And there I will provide for you, because there will be five more years of famine. Otherwise, you and your household and everything you own will come to
destitution.’
And ye shall tell my father of
all my glory in Egypt, and of
all that ye have seen; and ye shall
haste and bring down my father
hither.
Tell my father about
all my
splendor in Egypt and everything you have seen. And bring my father down here quickly.”
Moreover he
kissed all his brethren, and
wept upon them: and after that his brethren talked with him.
Joseph
kissed each of his brothers as he
wept over them. And afterward his brothers talked with him.
Also regard not your stuff; for the good of all the land of Egypt is yours.
But pay no regard to your belongings, for the best of all the land of Egypt is yours.’”
To
all of them he gave each man changes of
raiment; but to Benjamin he gave three hundred pieces of silver, and five changes of
raiment.
He gave new garments to each of them, but to Benjamin he gave three hundred shekels of silver and five sets of clothes.
And told him, saying, Joseph is yet alive, and he is governor over
all the land of Egypt. And Jacob’s heart
fainted, for he believed them not.
“Joseph is still alive,” they said, “and he is ruler over
all the land of Egypt!” But Jacob was
stunned, for he did not believe them.
And they told him all the words of Joseph, which he had said unto them: and when he saw the wagons which Joseph had sent to carry him, the spirit of Jacob their father revived:
However, when they relayed all that Joseph had told them, and when he saw the wagons that Joseph had sent to carry him back, the spirit of their father Jacob was revived.
And Israel took his journey with
all that he had, and came to Beer-
sheba, and offered sacrifices unto the God of his father Isaac.
So Israel set out with
all that he had, and when he came to
Beersheba, he offered sacrifices to the God of his father Isaac.
And they took their cattle, and their goods, which they had
gotten in the land of
Canaan, and came into Egypt, Jacob, and
all his seed with him:
They also took the
livestock and possessions they had acquired in the land of
Canaan, and Jacob and
all his offspring went to Egypt.
His sons, and his sons’ sons with him, his daughters, and his sons’ daughters, and all his seed brought he with him into Egypt.
Jacob took with him to Egypt his sons and grandsons, and his daughters and granddaughters—all his offspring.
These be the sons of Leah, which she bare unto Jacob in Padan-
aram, with his daughter Dinah:
all the souls of his sons and his daughters were thirty and three.
These are the sons of Leah born to Jacob in Paddan-
aram, in addition to his daughter Dinah. The total number of sons and daughters was thirty-three.
These are the sons of Zilpah, whom
Laban gave to Leah his daughter, and these she bare unto Jacob, even sixteen souls.
These are the sons of Jacob born to Zilpah—whom
Laban gave to his daughter Leah—sixteen in
all.
These are the sons of
Rachel, which were born to Jacob:
all the souls were fourteen.
These are the sons of
Rachel born to Jacob—fourteen in
all.
These are the sons of
Bilhah, which
Laban gave unto
Rachel his daughter, and she bare these unto Jacob:
all the souls were seven.
These are the sons of Jacob born to
Bilhah, whom
Laban gave to his daughter
Rachel—seven in
all.
All the souls that came with Jacob into Egypt, which came out of his loins, besides Jacob’s sons’ wives,
all the souls were
threescore and six;
All those belonging to Jacob who came to Egypt—his direct descendants, besides the wives of Jacob’s sons—numbered sixty-six persons.
And the sons of Joseph, which were born him in Egypt, were two souls:
all the souls of the house of Jacob, which came into Egypt, were
threescore and ten.
And with the two sons who had been born to Joseph in Egypt, the members of Jacob’s family who went to Egypt were seventy in all.
And the men are
shepherds, for their trade hath been to feed cattle; and they have brought their flocks, and their herds, and
all that they have.
The men are
shepherds; they raise
livestock, and they have brought their flocks and herds and
all that they own.’
That ye shall say, Thy servants’ trade hath been about cattle from our youth even until now, both we, and also our fathers: that ye may dwell in the land of
Goshen; for every
shepherd is an
abomination unto the Egyptians.
you are to say, ‘Your servants have raised
livestock ever since our youth—both we and our fathers.’ Then you will be
allowed to settle in the land of
Goshen, since
all shepherds are
detestable to the Egyptians.”
Then Joseph came and told Pharaoh, and said, My father and my brethren, and their flocks, and their herds, and
all that they have, are come out of the land of
Canaan; and, behold, they are in the land of
Goshen.
So Joseph went and told Pharaoh: “My father and my brothers, with their flocks and herds and
all they own, have come from the land of
Canaan and are now in
Goshen.”
They said moreover unto Pharaoh, For to
sojourn in the land are we come; for thy servants have no pasture for their flocks; for the famine is
sore in the land of
Canaan: now therefore, we pray thee, let thy servants dwell in the land of
Goshen.
Then they said to Pharaoh, “We have come to live in the land for a time, because there is no pasture for the flocks of your servants, since the famine in the land of
Canaan has been severe. So now, please
allow your servants to settle in the land of
Goshen.”
And Joseph
nourished his father, and his brethren, and
all his father’s household, with bread, according to their families.
Joseph also provided his father and brothers and all his father’s household with food for their families.
And there was no bread in
all the land; for the famine was very
sore, so that the land of Egypt and
all the land of
Canaan fainted by reason of the famine.
There was no food, however, in
all that region, because the famine was so severe; the lands of Egypt and
Canaan had been exhausted by the famine.
And Joseph gathered up
all the money that was found in the land of Egypt, and in the land of
Canaan, for the corn which they bought: and Joseph brought the money into Pharaoh’s house.
Joseph collected
all the money to be found in the land of Egypt and the land of
Canaan in exchange for the grain they were
buying, and he brought it into Pharaoh’s palace.
And when money failed in the land of Egypt, and in the land of
Canaan,
all the Egyptians came unto Joseph, and said, Give us bread: for why should we die in thy presence? for the money faileth.
When the money from the lands of Egypt and
Canaan was gone,
all the Egyptians came to Joseph and said, “Give us food. Why should we die before your eyes? For our funds have run out!”
And they brought their cattle unto Joseph: and Joseph gave them bread in exchange for horses, and for the flocks, and for the cattle of the herds, and for the
asses: and he fed them with bread for
all their cattle for that year.
So they brought their
livestock to Joseph, and he gave them food in exchange for their horses, their flocks and herds, and their
donkeys. Throughout that year he provided them with food in exchange for
all their
livestock.
When that year was ended, they came unto him the second year, and said unto him, We will not hide it from my lord, how that our money is spent; my lord also hath our herds of cattle; there is not ought left in the sight of my lord, but our bodies, and our lands:
When that year was over, they came to him the second year and said, “We cannot hide from our lord that our money is gone and
all our
livestock belongs to you. There is nothing left for our lord except our bodies and our land.
And Joseph bought all the land of Egypt for Pharaoh; for the Egyptians sold every man his field, because the famine prevailed over them: so the land became Pharaoh’s.
So Joseph acquired for Pharaoh all the land in Egypt; the Egyptians, one and all, sold their fields because the famine was so severe upon them. The land became Pharaoh’s,
And he blessed Joseph, and said, God, before whom my fathers Abraham and Isaac did walk, the God which fed me all my life long unto this day,
Then he blessed Joseph and said: “May the God before whom my fathers Abraham and Isaac walked, the God who has been my
shepherd all my life to this day,
The Angel which redeemed me from
all evil,
bless the lads; and let my name be named on them, and the name of my fathers Abraham and Isaac; and let them grow into a multitude in the midst of the earth.
the angel who has redeemed me from
all harm— may He
bless these boys. And may they be called by my name and the names of my fathers Abraham and Isaac, and may they grow into a multitude upon the earth.”
The
sceptre shall not depart from Judah, nor a
lawgiver from between his feet, until
Shiloh come; and unto him shall the gathering of the people be.
The
scepter will not depart from Judah, nor the staff from between his feet, until
Shiloh comes and the
allegiance of the nations is his.
All these are the twelve tribes of Israel: and this is it that their father spake unto them, and blessed them; every one according to his blessing he blessed them.
These are the tribes of Israel, twelve in all, and this was what their father said to them. He blessed them, and he blessed each one with a suitable blessing.
And Joseph went up to
bury his father: and with him went up
all the servants of Pharaoh, the elders of his house, and
all the elders of the land of Egypt,
Then Joseph went to
bury his father, and
all the servants of Pharaoh accompanied him—the elders of Pharaoh’s household and
all the elders of the land of Egypt—
And
all the house of Joseph, and his brethren, and his father’s house: only their little ones, and their flocks, and their herds, they left in the land of
Goshen.
along with
all of Joseph’s household, and his brothers, and his father’s household. Only their children and flocks and herds were left in
Goshen.
And Joseph returned into Egypt, he, and his brethren, and
all that went up with him to
bury his father, after he had buried his father.
After Joseph had buried his father, he returned to Egypt with his brothers and
all who had gone with him to
bury his father.
And when Joseph’s brethren saw that their father was dead, they said, Joseph will
peradventure hate us, and will certainly requite us
all the evil which we did unto him.
When Joseph’s brothers saw that their father was dead, they said, “What if Joseph bears a
grudge? Then he will surely repay us for
all the evil that we did to him.”
And all the souls that came out of the loins of Jacob were seventy souls: for Joseph was in Egypt already.
The descendants of Jacob numbered seventy in all, including Joseph, who was already in Egypt.
And Joseph died, and all his brethren, and all that generation.
Now Joseph and all his brothers and all that generation died,
And they made their lives bitter with hard
bondage, in
morter, and in brick, and in
all manner of service in the field:
all their service, wherein they made them serve, was with rigour.
and made their lives bitter with hard labor in brick and mortar, and with all kinds of work in the fields. Every service they imposed was harsh.
And Pharaoh charged all his people, saying, Every son that is born ye shall cast into the river, and every daughter ye shall save alive.
Then Pharaoh commanded all his people: “Every son born to the Hebrews you must throw into the Nile, but every daughter you may allow to live.”
And he said, Certainly I will be with thee; and this shall be a
token unto thee, that I have sent thee: When thou hast brought forth the people out of Egypt, ye shall serve God upon this mountain.
“I will surely be with you,” God said, “and this will be the sign to you that I have sent you: When you have brought the people out of Egypt, all of you will worship God on this mountain.”
And God said moreover unto Moses, Thus shalt thou say unto the children of Israel, The LORD God of your fathers, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob, hath sent me unto you: this is my name for ever, and this is my
memorial unto
all generations.
God also told Moses, “Say to the Israelites, ‘The LORD, the God of your fathers—the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob—has sent me to you.’ This is My name
forever, and this is how I am to be remembered in every generation.
And I am sure that the king of Egypt will not let you go, no, not by a mighty hand.
But I know that the king of Egypt will not allow you to go unless a mighty hand compels him.
And I will stretch out my hand, and
smite Egypt with
all my wonders which I will do in the midst thereof: and after that he will let you go.
So I will stretch out My hand and strike the Egyptians with all the wonders I will perform among them. And after that, he will release you.
And the LORD said unto Moses in
Midian, Go, return into Egypt: for
all the men are dead which sought thy life.
Now the LORD had said to Moses in
Midian, “Go back to Egypt, for
all the men who sought to kill you are dead.”
And the LORD said unto Moses, When thou goest to return into Egypt, see that thou do
all those wonders before Pharaoh, which I have put in thine hand: but I will
harden his heart, that he shall not let the people go.
The LORD
instructed Moses, “When you go back to Egypt, see that you perform before Pharaoh
all the wonders that I have put within your power. But I will
harden his heart so that he will not let the people go.
And Moses told Aaron all the words of the LORD who had sent him, and all the signs which he had commanded him.
And Moses told Aaron everything the LORD had sent him to say, and all the signs He had commanded him to perform.
And Moses and Aaron went and gathered together all the elders of the children of Israel:
Then Moses and Aaron went and assembled all the elders of the Israelites,
And Aaron spake all the words which the LORD had spoken unto Moses, and did the signs in the sight of the people.
and Aaron relayed everything the LORD had said to Moses. And Moses performed the signs before the people,
So the people were scattered abroad throughout
all the land of Egypt to gather
stubble instead of straw.
So the people scattered
all over the land of Egypt to gather
stubble for straw.
For since I came to Pharaoh to speak in thy name, he hath done evil to this people; neither hast thou delivered thy people at all.
Ever since I went to Pharaoh to speak in Your name, he has brought trouble on this people, and You have not delivered Your people in any way.”
That the LORD spake unto Moses, saying, I am the LORD: speak thou unto Pharaoh king of Egypt all that I say unto thee.
He said to him, “I am the LORD; tell Pharaoh king of Egypt everything I say to you.”
Thou shalt speak all that I command thee: and Aaron thy brother shall speak unto Pharaoh, that he send the children of Israel out of his land.
You are to speak all that I command you, and your brother Aaron is to tell Pharaoh to let the Israelites go out of his land.
And the LORD spake unto Moses, Say unto Aaron, Take thy rod, and stretch out thine hand upon the waters of Egypt, upon their streams, upon their rivers, and upon their ponds, and upon all their pools of water, that they may become blood; and that there may be blood throughout all the land of Egypt, both in vessels of wood, and in vessels of stone.
And the LORD said to Moses, “Tell Aaron, ‘Take your staff and stretch out your hand over the waters of Egypt—over their rivers and canals and ponds and reservoirs—that they may become blood.’ There will be blood throughout the land of Egypt, even in the vessels of wood and stone.”
And Moses and Aaron did so, as the LORD commanded; and he lifted up the rod, and
smote the waters that were in the river, in the sight of Pharaoh, and in the sight of his servants; and
all the waters that were in the river were turned to blood.
Moses and Aaron did just as the LORD had commanded; in the presence of Pharaoh and his officials, Aaron raised the staff and struck the water of the Nile, and all the water was turned to blood.
And the fish that was in the river died; and the river
stank, and the Egyptians could not drink of the water of the river; and there was blood throughout
all the land of Egypt.
The fish in the Nile died, and the river smelled so bad that the Egyptians could not drink its water. And there was blood throughout the land of Egypt.
And
all the Egyptians
digged round about the river for water to drink; for they could not drink of the water of the river.
So
all the Egyptians
dug around the Nile for water to drink, because they could not drink the water from the river.
And if thou refuse to let them go, behold, I will
smite all thy borders with frogs:
But if you refuse to let them go, I will plague your whole country with frogs.
And the frogs shall come up both on thee, and upon thy people, and upon all thy servants.
The frogs will come up on you and your people and all your officials.’”
And the LORD said unto Moses, Say unto Aaron, Stretch out thy rod, and
smite the dust of the land, that it may become
lice throughout
all the land of Egypt.
Then the LORD said to Moses, “Tell Aaron, ‘Stretch out your staff and strike the dust of the earth, that it may turn into swarms of gnats throughout the land of Egypt.’”
And they did so; for Aaron stretched out his hand with his rod, and
smote the dust of the earth, and it became
lice in man, and in beast;
all the dust of the land became
lice throughout
all the land of Egypt.
This they did, and when Aaron stretched out his hand with his staff and struck the dust of the earth, gnats came upon man and beast. All the dust of the earth turned into gnats throughout the land of Egypt.
And the LORD did so; and there came a
grievous swarm of
flies into the house of Pharaoh, and into his servants’ houses, and into
all the land of Egypt: the land was corrupted by reason of the
swarm of
flies.
And the LORD did so. Thick swarms of
flies poured into Pharaoh’s palace and into the houses of his officials. Throughout Egypt the land was ruined by swarms of
flies.
And the LORD shall
sever between the cattle of Israel and the cattle of Egypt: and there shall nothing die of
all that is the children’s of Israel.
But the LORD will make a distinction between the
livestock of Israel and the
livestock of Egypt, so that no animal belonging to the Israelites will die.’”
And the LORD did that thing on the
morrow, and
all the cattle of Egypt died: but of the cattle of the children of Israel died not one.
And the next day the LORD did just that.
All the
livestock of the Egyptians died, but not one animal belonging to the Israelites died.
And it shall become small dust in
all the land of Egypt, and shall be a
boil breaking forth with blains upon man, and upon beast, throughout
all the land of Egypt.
It will become fine dust over
all the land of Egypt, and
festering boils will break out on man and beast throughout the land.”
And the magicians could not stand before Moses because of the boils; for the
boil was upon the magicians, and upon
all the Egyptians.
The magicians could not stand before Moses, because the boils had broken out on them and on all the Egyptians.
For I will at this time send all my plagues upon thine heart, and upon thy servants, and upon thy people; that thou mayest know that there is none like me in all the earth.
Otherwise, I will send all My plagues against you and your officials and your people, so you may know that there is no one like Me in all the earth.
And in very deed for this cause have I raised thee up, for to
shew in thee my power; and that my name may be declared throughout
all the earth.
But I have raised you up for this very purpose, that I might display My power to you, and that My name might be proclaimed in all the earth.
As yet exaltest thou
thyself against my people, that thou
wilt not let them go?
Still, you lord it over My people and do not allow them to go.
Send therefore now, and gather thy cattle, and
all that thou hast in the field; for upon every man and beast which shall be found in the field, and shall not be brought home, the
hail shall come down upon them, and they shall die.
So give orders now to shelter your
livestock and everything you have in the field. Every man or beast that remains in the field and is not brought inside will die when the
hail comes down upon them.’”
And the LORD said unto Moses, Stretch forth thine hand toward heaven, that there may be
hail in
all the land of Egypt, upon man, and upon beast, and upon every
herb of the field, throughout the land of Egypt.
Then the LORD said to Moses, “Stretch out your hand toward heaven, so that
hail may fall on
all the land of Egypt—on man and beast and every plant of the field throughout the land of Egypt.”
So there was
hail, and fire mingled with the
hail, very
grievous, such as there was none like it in
all the land of Egypt since it became a nation.
The
hail fell and the
lightning continued
flashing through it. The
hail was so severe that nothing like it had ever been seen in
all the land of Egypt from the time it became a nation.
And the
hail smote throughout
all the land of Egypt
all that was in the field, both man and beast; and the
hail smote every
herb of the field, and
brake every tree of the field.
Throughout the land of Egypt, the
hail struck down everything in the field, both man and beast; it beat down every plant of the field and
stripped every tree.
And that thou mayest tell in the ears of thy son, and of thy son’s son, what things I have wrought in Egypt, and my signs which I have done among them; that ye may know how that I am the LORD.
and that you may tell your children and grandchildren how severely I dealt with the Egyptians when I performed
miraculous signs among them, so that
all of you may know that I am the LORD.”
And they shall fill thy houses, and the houses of all thy servants, and the houses of all the Egyptians; which neither thy fathers, nor thy fathers’ fathers have seen, since the day that they were upon the earth unto this day. And he turned himself, and went out from Pharaoh.
They will fill your houses and the houses of all your officials and every Egyptian—something neither your fathers nor your grandfathers have seen since the day they came into this land.’” Then Moses turned and left Pharaoh’s presence.
And the LORD said unto Moses, Stretch out thine hand over the land of Egypt for the locusts, that they may come up upon the land of Egypt, and eat every
herb of the land, even
all that the
hail hath left.
Then the LORD said to Moses, “Stretch out your hand over the land of Egypt, so that the locusts may
swarm over it and
devour every plant in the land—everything that the
hail has left behind.”
And Moses stretched forth his rod over the land of Egypt, and the LORD brought an east wind upon the land all that day, and all that night; and when it was morning, the east wind brought the locusts.
So Moses stretched out his staff over the land of Egypt, and throughout that day and night the LORD sent an east wind across the land. By morning the east wind had brought the locusts.
And the locusts went up over
all the land of Egypt, and rested in
all the coasts of Egypt: very
grievous were they; before them there were no such locusts as they, neither after them shall be such.
The locusts
swarmed across the land and settled over the entire territory of Egypt. Never before had there been so many locusts, and never again will there be.
For they covered the face of the whole earth, so that the land was
darkened; and they did eat every
herb of the land, and
all the fruit of the trees which the
hail had left: and there remained not any green thing in the trees, or in the herbs of the field, through
all the land of Egypt.
They covered the face of
all the land until it was black, and they consumed
all the plants on the ground and
all the fruit on the trees that the
hail had left behind. Nothing green was left on any tree or plant in
all the land of Egypt.
And the LORD turned a mighty strong west wind, which took away the locusts, and cast them into the Red sea; there remained not one
locust in
all the coasts of Egypt.
And the LORD changed the wind to a very strong west wind that carried off the locusts and
blew them into the Red Sea. Not a single
locust remained
anywhere in Egypt.
And Moses stretched forth his hand toward heaven; and there was a thick darkness in all the land of Egypt three days:
So Moses stretched out his hand toward heaven, and total darkness covered all the land of Egypt for three days.
They saw not one another, neither rose any from his place for three days: but all the children of Israel had light in their dwellings.
No one could see
anyone else, and for three days no one left his place. Yet
all the Israelites had light in their dwellings.
And the LORD said unto Moses, Yet will I bring one plague more upon Pharaoh, and upon Egypt; afterwards he will let you go hence: when he shall let you go, he shall surely thrust you out hence altogether.
Then the LORD said to Moses, “I will bring upon Pharaoh and Egypt one more plague. After that, he will allow you to leave this place. And when he lets you go, he will drive you out completely.
and every
firstborn son in the land of Egypt will die, from the
firstborn of Pharaoh who sits on his throne, to the
firstborn of the servant
girl behind the hand mill, as well as the
firstborn of
all the cattle.
And there shall be a great cry throughout all the land of Egypt, such as there was none like it, nor shall be like it any more.
Then a great cry will go out over all the land of Egypt. Such an outcry has never been heard before and will never be heard again.
But against any of the children of Israel shall not a dog move his tongue, against man or beast: that ye may know how that the LORD
doth put a difference between the Egyptians and Israel.
But among
all the Israelites, not even a dog will
snarl at man or beast.’ Then you will know that the LORD makes a distinction between Egypt and Israel.
And all these thy servants shall come down unto me, and bow down themselves unto me, saying, Get thee out, and all the people that follow thee: and after that I will go out. And he went out from Pharaoh in a great anger.
And all these officials of yours will come and bow before me, saying, ‘Go, you and all the people who follow you!’ After that, I will depart.” And hot with anger, Moses left Pharaoh’s presence.
And Moses and Aaron did
all these wonders before Pharaoh: and the LORD
hardened Pharaoh’s heart, so that he would not let the children of Israel go out of his land.
Moses and Aaron did
all these wonders before Pharaoh, but the LORD
hardened Pharaoh’s heart so that he would not let the Israelites go out of his land.
Speak ye unto all the congregation of Israel, saying, In the tenth day of this month they shall take to them every man a lamb, according to the house of their fathers, a lamb for an house:
Tell the whole congregation of Israel that on the tenth day of this month each man must select a lamb for his family, one per household.
Eat not of it raw, nor
sodden at
all with water, but
roast with fire; his head with his legs, and with the
purtenance thereof.
Do not eat any of the meat raw or
cooked in boiling water, but only
roasted over the fire—its head and legs and inner parts.
For I will pass through the land of Egypt this night, and will
smite all the
firstborn in the land of Egypt, both man and beast; and against
all the gods of Egypt I will
execute judgment: I am the LORD.
On that night I will pass through the land of Egypt and strike down every
firstborn male, both man and beast, and I will
execute judgment against
all the gods of Egypt. I am the LORD.
And in the first day there shall be an holy
convocation, and in the seventh day there shall be an holy
convocation to you; no manner of work shall be done in them, save that which every man must eat, that only may be done of you.
On the first day you are to hold a sacred assembly, and another on the seventh day. You must not do any work on those days, except to prepare the meals—that is all you may do.
Then Moses called for
all the elders of Israel, and said unto them, Draw out and take you a lamb according to your families, and kill the
passover.
Then Moses summoned
all the elders of Israel and told them, “Go at once and select for
yourselves a lamb for each family, and slaughter the
Passover lamb.
For the LORD will pass through to
smite the Egyptians; and when he
seeth the blood upon the
lintel, and on the two side posts, the LORD will pass over the door, and will not suffer the destroyer to come in unto your houses to
smite you.
When the LORD passes through to strike down the Egyptians, He will see the blood on the top and sides of the doorframe and will pass over that
doorway; so He will not
allow the destroyer to enter your houses and strike you down.
And Pharaoh rose up in the night, he, and all his servants, and all the Egyptians; and there was a great cry in Egypt; for there was not a house where there was not one dead.
During the night Pharaoh got up—he and
all his officials and
all the Egyptians—and there was loud
wailing in Egypt; for there was no house without someone dead.
