And God’s anger was
kindled because he went: and the
angel of the LORD stood in the way for an
adversary against him. Now he was riding upon his
ass, and his two servants were with him.
Then God’s anger was
kindled because
Balaam was going along, and the
angel of the LORD stood in the road to
oppose him.
Balaam was riding his
donkey, and his two servants were with him.
And the
ass saw the
angel of the LORD standing in the way, and his sword drawn in his hand: and the
ass turned aside out of the way, and went into the field: and
Balaam smote the
ass, to turn her into the way.
When the
donkey saw the
angel of the LORD standing in the road with a drawn sword in his hand, she turned off the path and went into a field. So
Balaam beat her to return her to the path.
But the angel of the LORD stood in a path of the vineyards, a wall being on this side, and a wall on that side.
Then the angel of the LORD stood in a narrow passage between two vineyards, with walls on either side.
And when the
ass saw the
angel of the LORD, she thrust herself unto the wall, and
crushed Balaam’s foot against the wall: and he
smote her again.
And the
donkey saw the
angel of the LORD and pressed herself against the wall,
crushing Balaam’s foot against it. So he beat her once again.
And the angel of the LORD went further, and stood in a narrow place, where was no way to turn either to the right hand or to the left.
And the
angel of the LORD moved on
ahead and stood in a narrow place where there was no room to turn to the right or left.
When the
donkey saw the
angel of the LORD, she lay down under
Balaam, and he became
furious and beat her with his staff.

Balaam, and he saw the
angel of the LORD standing in the way, and his sword drawn in his hand: and he bowed down his head, and fell flat on his face.

Balaam’s eyes, and he saw the
angel of the LORD standing in the road with a drawn sword in his hand. And

angel of the LORD said unto him, Wherefore hast thou
smitten thine
ass these three times? behold, I went out to

donkey these three times? Behold, I have come out to
oppose you, because your way is
perverse before me.
And
Balaam said unto the
angel of the LORD, I have
sinned; for I knew not that thou stoodest in the way against me: now therefore, if it displease thee, I will get me back again.

angel of the LORD, “for I did not
realize that you were standing in the road to
confront me. And now, if this is displeasing in your sight, I will go back home.”

angel of the LORD said unto

Balaam went with the princes of Balak.
Rejoice, O heavens, with Him, and let all God’s
angels worship Him.

adversaries and repay those who
hate Him; He will
cleanse His land and His people.
And an
angel of the LORD came up from
Gilgal to Bochim, and said, I made you to go up out of Egypt, and have brought you unto the land which I
sware unto your fathers; and I said, I will never break my covenant with you.
Now the
angel of the LORD went up from
Gilgal to Bochim and said, “I brought you up out of Egypt and led you into the land that I had promised to your fathers, and I said, ‘I will never break My covenant with you,

wept.
Curse ye
Meroz, said the
angel of the LORD,
curse ye bitterly the inhabitants thereof; because they came not to the help of the LORD, to the help of the LORD against the mighty.

Curse Meroz,’ says the
angel of the LORD. ‘Bitterly
curse her inhabitants; for they did not come to help the LORD, to help the LORD against the mighty.’
And there came an
angel of the LORD, and sat under an oak which was in Ophrah, that

Gideon threshed wheat by the winepress, to hide it from the Midianites.

angel of the LORD came and sat down under the oak in Ophrah that belonged to
Joash the Abiezrite, where his son
Gideon was
threshing wheat in a winepress to hide it from the Midianites.

valor.”
And the
angel of God said unto him, Take the flesh and the

angel of God said to him, “Take the meat and the
unleavened bread, lay them on this rock, and pour out the
broth.” And
Gideon did so.
Then the
angel of the LORD put forth the end of the staff that was in his hand, and touched the flesh and the
unleavened cakes; and there rose up fire out of the rock, and consumed the flesh and the
unleavened cakes. Then the
angel of the LORD departed out of his sight.
Then the
angel of the LORD extended the
tip of the staff that was in his hand and touched the meat and the
unleavened bread. And fire
flared from the rock and consumed the meat and the
unleavened bread. Then the
angel of the LORD
vanished from his sight.
And when
Gideon perceived that he was an
angel of the LORD,
Gideon said,
Alas, O Lord GOD! for because I have seen an
angel of the LORD face to face.
When
Gideon realized that it was the
angel of the LORD, he said, “Oh no, Lord GOD! I have seen the
angel of the LORD face to face!”
And the angel of the LORD appeared unto the woman, and said unto her, Behold now, thou art barren, and bearest not: but thou shalt conceive, and bear a son.
The angel of the LORD appeared to the woman and said to her, “It is true that you are barren and have no children; but you will conceive and give birth to a son.
Then the woman came and told her husband, saying, A man of God came unto me, and his countenance was like the countenance of an angel of God, very terrible: but I asked him not whence he was, neither told he me his name:
So the woman went and told her husband, “A man of God came to me. His appearance was like the
angel of God, exceedingly
awesome. I did not ask him where he came from, and he did not tell me his name.
And God
hearkened to the voice of
Manoah; and the
angel of God came again unto the woman as she sat in the field: but
Manoah her husband was not with her.
And God
listened to the voice of
Manoah, and the
angel of God returned to the woman as she was sitting in the field; but her husband
Manoah was not with her.
And the
angel of the LORD said unto
Manoah, Of all that I said unto the woman let her
beware.
So the
angel of the LORD answered
Manoah, “Your wife is to do everything I told her.
And
Manoah said unto the
angel of the LORD, I pray thee, let us
detain thee, until we shall have made ready a
kid for thee.
“Please stay here,”
Manoah said to the
angel of the LORD, “and we will prepare a young goat for you.”
And the
angel of the LORD said unto
Manoah, Though thou
detain me, I will not eat of thy bread: and if thou
wilt offer a burnt offering, thou must offer it unto the LORD. For
Manoah knew not that he was an
angel of the LORD.
And the
angel of the LORD replied, “Even if I stay, I will not eat your food. But if you prepare a burnt offering, offer it to the LORD.” For
Manoah did not know that it was the
angel of the LORD.
And
Manoah said unto the
angel of the LORD, What is thy name, that when thy sayings come to pass we may do thee honour?
Then
Manoah said to the
angel of the LORD, “What is your name, so that we may honor you when your word comes to pass?”
And the angel of the LORD said unto him, Why askest thou thus after my name, seeing it is secret?
“Why do you ask my name,” said the
angel of the LORD, “since it is beyond
comprehension?”
So
Manoah took a
kid with a meat offering, and offered it upon a rock unto the LORD: and the
angel did wonderously; and
Manoah and his wife looked on.
Then
Manoah took a young goat and a grain offering and offered them on a rock to the LORD. And as
Manoah and his wife looked on, the LORD did a
marvelous thing.
For it came to pass, when the flame went up toward heaven from off the altar, that the
angel of the LORD ascended in the flame of the altar. And
Manoah and his wife looked on it, and fell on their faces to the ground.
When the flame went up from the altar to the sky, the
angel of the LORD ascended in the flame. When
Manoah and his wife saw this, they fell facedown to the ground.
But the
angel of the LORD did no more appear to
Manoah and to his wife. Then
Manoah knew that he was an
angel of the LORD.
And when the
angel of the LORD did not appear again to
Manoah and his wife,
Manoah realized that it had been the
angel of the LORD.
And Achish answered and said to David, I know that thou art good in my sight, as an angel of God: notwithstanding the princes of the Philistines have said, He shall not go up with us to the battle.
Achish replied, “I know that you are as pleasing in my sight as an angel of God. But the commanders of the Philistines have said, ‘He must not go into battle with us.’
Then thine
handmaid said, The word of my lord the king shall now be comfortable: for as an
angel of God, so is my lord the king to
discern good and bad: therefore the LORD thy God will be with thee.
And now your servant says, ‘May the word of my lord the king bring me rest, for my lord the king is able to
discern good and evil, just like the
angel of God. May the LORD your God be with you.’”
To
fetch about this form of speech hath thy servant
Joab done this thing: and my lord is wise, according to the wisdom of an
angel of God, to know all things that are in the earth.
Joab your servant has done this to bring about this change of affairs, but my lord has wisdom like the wisdom of the
angel of God, to know everything that happens in the land.”
And he hath
slandered thy servant unto my lord the king; but my lord the king is as an
angel of God: do therefore what is good in thine eyes.
and he has
slandered your servant to my lord the king. Yet my lord the king is like the
angel of God, so do what is good in your eyes.
And when the
angel stretched out his hand upon Jerusalem to destroy it, the LORD
repented him of the evil, and said to the
angel that destroyed the people, It is enough: stay now thine hand. And the
angel of the LORD was by the threshingplace of Araunah the Jebusite.
But when the
angel stretched out his hand to destroy Jerusalem, the LORD relented from the
calamity and said to the
angel who was destroying the people, “Enough! Withdraw your hand now!” At that time the
angel of the LORD was by the
threshing floor of Araunah the Jebusite.
And David spake unto the LORD when he saw the
angel that
smote the people, and said, Lo, I have
sinned, and I have done wickedly: but these sheep, what have they done? let thine hand, I pray thee, be against me, and against my father’s house.
When David saw the
angel striking down the people, he said to the LORD, “Surely I, the
shepherd, have
sinned and acted wickedly. But these sheep, what have they done? Please, let Your hand fall upon me and my father’s house.”
He said unto him, I am a prophet also as thou art; and an
angel spake unto me by the word of the LORD, saying, Bring him back with thee into thine house, that he may eat bread and drink water. But he
lied unto him.
Then the prophet replied, “I too am a prophet like you, and an angel spoke to me by the word of the LORD, saying, ‘Bring him back with you to your house, so that he may eat bread and drink water.’” The old prophet was lying to him,
And as he lay and
slept under a
juniper tree, behold, then an
angel touched him, and said unto him, Arise and eat.
Then he lay down under the
broom tree and fell
asleep. Suddenly an
angel touched him and said, “Get up and eat.”
And the angel of the LORD came again the second time, and touched him, and said, Arise and eat; because the journey is too great for thee.
A second time the angel of the LORD returned and touched him, saying, “Get up and eat, or the journey will be too much for you.”
But the
angel of the LORD said to
Elijah the Tishbite, Arise, go up to meet the messengers of the king of Samaria, and say unto them, Is it not because there is not a God in Israel, that ye go to
enquire of
Baal-
zebub the god of
Ekron?
But the
angel of the LORD said to
Elijah the Tishbite, “Go up to meet the messengers of the king of Samaria and ask them, ‘Is it because there is no God in Israel that you are on your way to inquire of
Baal-
zebub, the god of
Ekron?’
And the
angel of the LORD said unto
Elijah, Go down with him: be not afraid of him. And he arose, and went down with him unto the king.
Then the
angel of the LORD said to
Elijah, “Go down with him. Do not be afraid of him.” So
Elijah got up and went down with him to the king.
And it came to pass that night, that the
angel of the LORD went out, and
smote in the camp of the Assyrians an hundred
fourscore and five thousand: and when they arose early in the morning, behold, they were all dead corpses.
And that very night the angel of the LORD went out and struck down 185,000 men in the camp of the Assyrians. When the people got up the next morning, there were all the dead bodies!
Either three years’ famine; or three months to be destroyed before thy foes, while that the sword of thine enemies overtaketh thee; or else three days the sword of the LORD, even the
pestilence, in the land, and the
angel of the LORD destroying throughout all the coasts of Israel. Now therefore
advise thyself what word I shall bring again to him that sent me.
between three years of famine, three months of being swept away before your enemies and overtaken by their swords, or three days of the sword of the LORD—days of plague upon the land, with the
angel of the LORD
ravaging every part of Israel.’ Now then, decide how I should reply to Him who sent me.”
And God sent an
angel unto Jerusalem to destroy it: and as he was destroying, the LORD
beheld, and he
repented him of the evil, and said to the
angel that destroyed, It is enough, stay now thine hand. And the
angel of the LORD stood by the threshingfloor of Ornan the Jebusite.
Then God sent an
angel to destroy Jerusalem, but as the
angel was doing so, the LORD saw it and relented from the
calamity, and He said to the
angel who was destroying the people, “Enough! Withdraw your hand now!” At that time the
angel of the LORD was standing by the
threshing floor of Ornan the Jebusite.
And David lifted up his eyes, and saw the
angel of the LORD stand between the earth and the heaven, having a drawn sword in his hand stretched out over Jerusalem. Then David and the elders of Israel, who were clothed in
sackcloth, fell upon their faces.
When David lifted up his eyes and saw the
angel of the LORD standing between heaven and earth, with a drawn sword in his hand stretched out over Jerusalem, David and the elders, clothed in
sackcloth, fell facedown.
Then the
angel of the LORD commanded
Gad to say to David, that David should go up, and set up an altar unto the LORD in the threshingfloor of Ornan the Jebusite.
Then the
angel of the LORD ordered
Gad to tell David to go up and build an altar to the LORD on the
threshing floor of Ornan the Jebusite.
And Ornan turned back, and saw the
angel; and his four sons with him
hid themselves. Now Ornan was
threshing wheat.
Now Ornan was
threshing wheat when he turned and saw the
angel; and his four sons who were with him
hid themselves.
And the LORD commanded the
angel; and he put up his sword again into the
sheath thereof.
Then the LORD spoke to the
angel, who put his sword back into its
sheath.
But David could not go before it to
enquire of God: for he was afraid because of the sword of the
angel of the LORD.
but David could not go before it to inquire of God, because he was afraid of the sword of the angel of the LORD.
And the LORD sent an
angel, which cut off all the mighty men of valour, and the leaders and captains in the camp of the king of Assyria. So he returned with shame of face to his own land. And when he was come into the house of his god, they that came forth of his own
bowels slew him there with the sword.
and the LORD sent an
angel who
annihilated every mighty man of
valor and every leader and commander in the camp of the king of Assyria. So he withdrew to his own land in disgrace. And when he entered the temple of his god, some of his own sons struck him down with the sword.
Behold, he put no trust in his servants; and his angels he charged with folly:
If God puts no trust in His servants, and He charges His angels with error,
For thou hast made him a little lower than the angels, and hast crowned him with glory and honour.
You made him a little lower than the angels; You crowned him with glory and honor.
The angel of the LORD encampeth round about them that fear him, and delivereth them.
The angel of the LORD encamps around those who fear Him, and he delivers them.
Let them be as
chaff before the wind: and let the
angel of the LORD
chase them.
May they be like
chaff in the wind, as the
angel of the LORD drives them away.
May their path be dark and
slick, as the
angel of the LORD pursues.
The
chariots of God are twenty thousand, even thousands of
angels: the Lord is among them, as in
Sinai, in the holy place.
The
chariots of God are tens of thousands— thousands of thousands are they; the Lord is in His sanctuary as He was at
Sinai.
Man did eat angels’ food: he sent them meat to the full.
Man
ate the bread of
angels; He sent them food in abundance.
He cast upon them the fierceness of his anger, wrath, and
indignation, and trouble, by sending evil
angels among them.
For he shall give his angels charge over thee, to keep thee in all thy ways.
For He will command His angels concerning you to guard you in all your ways.
Bless the LORD, ye his
angels, that
excel in strength, that do his commandments,
hearkening unto the voice of his word.
Bless the LORD, all His
angels mighty in strength who carry out His word, who
hearken to the voice of His command.
Who maketh his angels spirits; his ministers a flaming fire:
He makes the winds His messengers, flames of fire His servants.
Praise ye him, all his angels: praise ye him, all his hosts.
Praise Him, all His angels; praise Him, all His heavenly hosts.
Suffer not thy mouth to cause thy flesh to sin; neither say thou before the
angel, that it was an error: wherefore should God be
angry at thy voice, and destroy the work of thine hands?
Do not let your mouth cause your flesh to sin, and do not tell the
messenger that your
vow was a mistake. Why should God be
angry with your words and destroy the work of your hands?
Then the
angel of the LORD went forth, and
smote in the camp of the Assyrians a hundred and
fourscore and five thousand: and when they arose early in the morning, behold, they were all dead corpses.
Then the angel of the LORD went out and struck down 185,000 men in the camp of the Assyrians. When the people got up the next morning, there were all the dead bodies!
In all their
affliction he was
afflicted, and the
angel of his presence saved them: in his love and in his
pity he redeemed them; and he bare them, and carried them all the days of old.
In all their distress, He too was
afflicted, and the
Angel of His Presence saved them. In His love and
compassion He redeemed them; He lifted them up and carried them all the days of old.
Then
Nebuchadnezzar spake, and said, Blessed be the God of
Shadrach, Meshach, and
Abed-nego, who hath sent his
angel, and delivered his servants that trusted in him, and have changed the king’s word, and yielded their bodies, that they might not serve nor worship any god, except their own God.
Nebuchadnezzar declared, “Blessed be the God of
Shadrach, Meshach, and
Abednego, who has sent His
angel and delivered His servants who trusted in Him. They
violated the king’s command and risked their lives rather than serve or worship any god except their own God.
My God hath sent his
angel, and hath shut the lions mouths, that they have not
hurt me:
forasmuch as before him
innocency was found in me; and also before thee, O king, have I done no
hurt.
My God sent His
angel and shut the mouths of the lions. They have not
hurt me, for I was found innocent in His sight, and I have done no wrong against you, O king.”
Yea, he had power over the
angel, and prevailed: he
wept, and made
supplication unto him: he found him in
Bethel, and there he spake with us;
Yes, he struggled with the
angel and prevailed; he
wept and sought His favor; he found Him at
Bethel and spoke with Him there—
Then said I, O my lord, what are these? And the
angel that talked with me said unto me, I will
shew thee what these be.
“What are these, my lord?” I asked. And the angel who was speaking with me replied, “I will show you what they are.”
And they answered the
angel of the LORD that stood among the
myrtle trees, and said, We have walked to and
fro through the earth, and, behold, all the earth sitteth still, and is at rest.
And the riders answered the
angel of the LORD who was standing among the
myrtle trees, “We have
patrolled the earth, and behold, all the earth is at rest and
tranquil.”
Then the
angel of the LORD answered and said, O LORD of hosts, how long
wilt thou not have mercy on Jerusalem and on the cities of Judah, against which thou hast had
indignation these
threescore and ten years?
Then the
angel of the LORD said, “How long, O LORD of Hosts, will You
withhold mercy from Jerusalem and the cities of Judah, with which You have been
angry these seventy years?”
And the LORD answered the angel that talked with me with good words and comfortable words.
So the LORD spoke kind and comforting words to the angel who was speaking with me.
So the
angel that communed with me said unto me, Cry thou, saying, Thus saith the LORD of hosts; I am
jealous for Jerusalem and for
Zion with a great jealousy.
Then the
angel who was speaking with me said, “
Proclaim this word: This is what the LORD of Hosts says: ‘I am very
jealous for Jerusalem and
Zion,
And I said unto the angel that talked with me, What be these? And he answered me, These are the horns which have scattered Judah, Israel, and Jerusalem.
So I asked the angel who was speaking with me, “What are these?” And he told me, “These are the horns that have scattered Judah, Israel, and Jerusalem.”
And, behold, the angel that talked with me went forth, and another angel went out to meet him,
Then the angel who was speaking with me went out, and another angel came out to meet him
And he shewed me Joshua the high priest standing before the
angel of the LORD, and
Satan standing at his right hand to resist him.
Then the
angel showed me Joshua the high priest standing before the
angel of the LORD, with
Satan standing at his right hand to
accuse him.
Now Joshua was clothed with
filthy garments, and stood before the
angel.
Now Joshua was dressed in
filthy garments as he stood before the
angel.
