And when he hath made her to drink the water, then it shall come to pass, that, if she be
defiled, and have done
trespass against her husband, that the water that causeth the
curse shall enter into her, and become bitter, and her
belly shall swell, and her
thigh shall
rot: and the woman shall be a
curse among her people.
When he has made her drink the water, if she has
defiled herself and
been unfaithful to her husband, then the water that brings a
curse will enter her and cause bitter suffering; her
belly will swell, her
thigh will
shrivel, and she will become
accursed among her people.
For they are wholly given unto me from among the children of Israel; instead of such as open every
womb, even instead of the
firstborn of all the children of Israel, have I taken them unto me.
For the Levites have
been wholly given to Me from among the sons of Israel. I have taken them for Myself in place of all who come first from the
womb, the
firstborn of all the sons of Israel.
And the LORD said unto Moses, If her father had but
spit in her face, should she not be
ashamed seven days? let her be shut out from the camp seven days, and after that let her be received in again.
But the LORD answered Moses, “If her father had but
spit in her face, would she not have
been in disgrace for seven days? Let her be confined outside the camp for seven days; after that she may be brought back in.”
And they ascended by the south, and came unto
Hebron; where Ahiman, Sheshai, and Talmai, the children of
Anak, were. (Now
Hebron was built seven years before Zoan in Egypt.)
They went up through the Negev and came to
Hebron, where Ahiman, Sheshai, and Talmai, the descendants of
Anak, dwelled. It had
been built seven years before Zoan in Egypt.
Only
rebel not ye against the LORD, neither fear ye the people of the land; for they are bread for us: their defence is departed from them, and the LORD is with us: fear them not.
Only do not
rebel against the LORD, and do not be afraid of the people of the land, for they will be like bread for us. Their protection has
been removed, and the LORD is with us. Do not be afraid of them!”
And they will tell it to the inhabitants of this land: for they have heard that thou LORD art among this people, that thou LORD art seen face to face, and that thy cloud standeth over them, and that thou goest before them, by
daytime in a
pillar of a cloud, and in a
pillar of fire by night.
And they will tell it to the inhabitants of this land. They have already heard that You, O LORD, are in the midst of this people, that You, O LORD, have
been seen face to face, that Your cloud stands over them, and that You go before them in a
pillar of cloud by day and a
pillar of fire by night.
And the priest shall make an
atonement for the soul that sinneth ignorantly, when he sinneth by ignorance before the LORD, to make an
atonement for him; and it shall be
forgiven him.
And they put him in ward, because it was not declared what should be done to him.
and because it had not
been declared what should be done to him, they placed him in
custody.
And
Eleazar the priest took the
brasen censers,
wherewith they that were burnt had offered; and they were made broad plates for a covering of the altar:
So
Eleazar the priest took the bronze censers brought by those who had
been burned up, and he had them hammered out to overlay the altar,
And Aaron returned unto Moses unto the door of the tabernacle of the congregation: and the plague was stayed.
Then Aaron returned to Moses at the entrance to the Tent of Meeting, since the plague had
been halted.
This is the
ordinance of the law which the LORD hath commanded, saying, Speak unto the children of Israel, that they bring thee a red
heifer without spot, wherein is no
blemish, and upon which never came yoke:
“This is the statute of the law that the LORD has commanded:
Instruct the Israelites to bring you an
unblemished red
heifer that has no defect and has never
been placed under a yoke.
Whosoever toucheth the dead body of any man that is dead, and purifieth not himself, defileth the tabernacle of the LORD; and that soul shall be cut off from Israel: because the water of separation was not
sprinkled upon him, he shall be unclean; his uncleanness is yet upon him.
Anyone who touches a human
corpse and fails to
purify himself defiles the tabernacle of the LORD. That person must be cut off from Israel. He remains unclean, because the water of
purification has not
been sprinkled on him, and his uncleanness is still on him.
And
whosoever toucheth one that is slain with a sword in the open fields, or a dead body, or a bone of a man, or a grave, shall be unclean seven days.
Anyone in the open field who touches someone who has
been killed by the sword or has died of natural causes, or
anyone who touches a human bone or a grave, will be unclean for seven days.
And a clean person shall take
hyssop, and dip it in the water, and
sprinkle it upon the tent, and upon all the vessels, and upon the persons that were there, and upon him that touched a bone, or one slain, or one dead, or a grave:
Then a man who is
ceremonially clean is to take some
hyssop, dip it in the water, and
sprinkle the tent, all the furnishings, and the people who were there. He is also to
sprinkle the one who touched a bone, a grave, or a person who has died or
been slain.
But the man that shall be unclean, and shall not
purify himself, that soul shall be cut off from among the congregation, because he hath
defiled the sanctuary of the LORD: the water of separation hath not
been sprinkled upon him; he is unclean.
But if a person who is unclean does not
purify himself, he will be cut off from the assembly, because he has
defiled the sanctuary of the LORD. The water of
purification has not
been sprinkled on him; he is unclean.
And Moses took the rod from before the LORD, as he commanded him.
So Moses took the staff from the LORD’s presence, just as he had been commanded.
And from thence they went to
Beer: that is the well
whereof the LORD spake unto Moses, Gather the people together, and I will give them water.
From there they went on to Beer, the well where the LORD said to Moses, “Gather the people so that I may give them water.”
But among these there was not a man of them whom Moses and Aaron the priest numbered, when they numbered the children of Israel in the wilderness of
Sinai.
Among all these, however, there was not one who had
been numbered by Moses and Aaron the priest when they counted the Israelites in the Wilderness of
Sinai.
And
levy a tribute unto the LORD of the men of war which went out to battle: one soul of five hundred, both of the persons, and of the
beeves, and of the
asses, and of the sheep:
Set aside a tribute for the LORD from what belongs to the soldiers who went into battle: one out of every five hundred, whether persons, cattle,
donkeys, or sheep.
And of the children of Israel’s half, thou shalt take one portion of fifty, of the persons, of the
beeves, of the
asses, and of the flocks, of all manner of beasts, and give them unto the Levites, which keep the charge of the tabernacle of the LORD.
From the Israelites’ half, take one out of every fifty, whether persons, cattle,
donkeys, sheep, or other animals, and give them to the Levites who keep charge of the tabernacle of the LORD.”
And the
beeves were thirty and six thousand; of which the LORD’S tribute was
threescore and twelve.
36,000 cattle, including a tribute to the LORD of 72,
And thirty and six thousand
beeves,
36,000 cattle,
And the
Amorites, which dwelt in that mountain, came out against you, and
chased you, as
bees do, and destroyed you in
Seir, even unto Hormah.
Then the
Amorites who lived in the hills came out against you and
chased you like a
swarm of
bees. They routed you from
Seir all the way to Hormah.
Ye have compassed this mountain long enough: turn you northward.
“You have been wandering around this hill country long enough; turn to the north
For the LORD thy God hath blessed thee in all the works of thy hand: he knoweth thy walking through this great wilderness: these forty years the LORD thy God hath been with thee; thou hast lacked nothing.
Indeed, the LORD your God has blessed you in all the work of your hands. He has watched over your journey through this vast wilderness. The LORD your God has been with you these forty years, and you have lacked nothing.
When thou shalt
beget children, and children’s children, and ye shall have remained long in the land, and shall corrupt
yourselves, and make a
graven image, or the likeness of any thing, and shall do evil in the sight of the LORD thy God, to
provoke him to anger:
After you have children and grandchildren and you have
been in the land a long time, if you then act corruptly and make an
idol of any form—doing evil in the sight of the LORD your God and
provoking Him to anger—
For ask now of the days that are past, which were before thee, since the day that God created man upon the earth, and ask from the one side of heaven unto the other, whether there hath been any such thing as this great thing is, or hath been heard like it?
Indeed, ask now from one end of the heavens to the other about the days that long preceded you, from the day that God created man on earth: Has anything as great as this ever happened or been reported?
Remember, and
forget not, how thou provokedst the LORD thy God to wrath in the wilderness: from the day that thou
didst depart out of the land of Egypt, until ye came unto this place, ye have
been rebellious against the LORD.
Remember this, and never
forget how you
provoked the LORD your God in the wilderness. From the day you left the land of Egypt until you reached this place, you have
been rebelling against the LORD.
Ye have
been rebellious against the LORD from the day that I knew you.
You have been rebelling against the LORD since the day I came to know you.
And he wrote on the tables, according to the first writing, the ten commandments, which the LORD spake unto you in the mount out of the midst of the fire in the day of the assembly: and the LORD gave them unto me.
And the LORD wrote on the tablets what had been written previously, the Ten Commandments that He had spoken to you on the mountain out of the fire on the day of the assembly. The LORD gave them to me,
And the children of Israel took their journey from
Beeroth of the children of Jaakan to Mosera: there Aaron died, and there he was buried; and
Eleazar his son ministered in the priest’s office in his
stead.
The Israelites traveled from
Beeroth Bene-jaakan to Moserah, where Aaron died and was buried, and
Eleazar his son succeeded him as priest.
Take
heed to
thyself that thou be not
snared by following them, after that they be destroyed from before thee; and that thou
enquire not after their gods, saying, How did these nations serve their gods? even so will I do likewise.
be careful not to be ensnared by their ways after they have been destroyed before you. Do not inquire about their gods, asking, “How do these nations serve their gods? I will do likewise.”
Then shalt thou
enquire, and make search, and ask
diligently; and, behold, if it be truth, and the thing certain, that such
abomination is wrought among you;
And this is the manner of the release: Every
creditor that lendeth ought unto his neighbour shall release it; he shall not exact it of his neighbour, or of his brother; because it is called the LORD’S release.
This is the manner of remission: Every
creditor shall
cancel what he has
loaned to his
neighbor. He is not to collect anything from his
neighbor or brother, because the LORD’s time of release has
been proclaimed.
It shall not seem hard unto thee, when thou sendest him away free from thee; for he hath
been worth a double
hired servant to thee, in serving thee six years: and the LORD thy God shall
bless thee in all that thou doest.
Do not regard it as a
hardship to set your servant free, because his six years of service were worth twice the wages of a
hired hand. And the LORD your God will
bless you in all you do.
And it shall be, that the city which is next unto the slain man, even the elders of that city shall take an
heifer, which hath not
been wrought with, and which hath not drawn in the yoke;
Then the elders of the city nearest the
victim shall take a
heifer that has never
been yoked or used for work,
And the elders of that city shall bring down the
heifer unto a rough valley, which is neither eared nor sown, and shall strike off the
heifer’s neck there in the valley:
bring the
heifer to a valley with running water that has not
been plowed or sown, and break its neck there by the stream.
And all the elders of that city, that are next unto the slain man, shall wash their hands over the
heifer that is
beheaded in the valley:
Then all the elders of the city nearest the
victim shall wash their hands by the stream over the
heifer whose neck has
been broken,
Her former husband, which sent her away, may not take her again to be his wife, after that she is
defiled; for that is
abomination before the LORD: and thou shalt not cause the land to sin, which the LORD thy God giveth thee for an inheritance.
then the husband who
divorced her first may not remarry her after she has
been defiled, for that is an
abomination to the LORD. You must not bring sin upon the land that the LORD your God is giving you as an inheritance.
If any of thine be driven out unto the outmost parts of heaven, from thence will the LORD thy God gather thee, and from thence will he
fetch thee:
Even if you have
been banished to the
farthest horizon, He will gather you and return you from there.
For I know thy rebellion, and thy stiff neck: behold, while I am yet alive with you this day, ye have
been rebellious against the LORD; and how much more after my death?
For I know how
rebellious and stiff-necked you are. If you are already rebelling against the LORD while I am still alive, how much more will you
rebel after my death!
For a fire is
kindled in mine anger, and shall burn unto the lowest
hell, and shall
consume the earth with her increase, and set on fire the foundations of the mountains.
For a fire has
been kindled by My anger, and it burns to the depths of
Sheol; it consumes the earth and its produce, and scorches the foundations of the mountains.
Now all the people that came out were
circumcised: but all the people that were born in the wilderness by the way as they came forth out of Egypt, them they had not
circumcised.
Though all who had come out were
circumcised, none of those born in the wilderness on the journey from Egypt had
been circumcised.
And Joshua raised up their sons in their place, and these were the ones he
circumcised. Until this time they were still
uncircumcised, since they had not
been circumcised along the way.
And it came to pass, when they had done
circumcising all the people, that they abode in their places in the camp, till they were whole.
And after all the nation had
been circumcised, they stayed there in the camp until they were
healed.
And the LORD said unto Joshua, This day have I rolled away the reproach of Egypt from off you. Wherefore the name of the place is called
Gilgal unto this day.
Then the LORD said to Joshua, “
Today I have rolled away the reproach of Egypt from you.” So that place has
been called
Gilgal to this day.
And Joshua said,
Alas, O Lord GOD, wherefore hast thou at all brought this people over Jordan, to deliver us into the hand of the
Amorites, to destroy us? would to God we had
been content, and dwelt on the other side Jordan!
“O, Lord GOD,” Joshua said, “why did You ever bring this people across the Jordan to deliver us into the hand of the
Amorites to be destroyed? If only we had
been content to stay on the other side of the Jordan!
Therefore the children of Israel could not stand before their enemies, but turned their backs before their enemies, because they were
accursed: neither will I be with you any more, except ye destroy the
accursed from among you.
This is why the Israelites cannot stand against their enemies. They will turn their backs and run from their enemies, because they themselves have been set apart for destruction. I will no longer be with you unless you remove from among you whatever is devoted to destruction.
And it came to pass, when the king of
Ai saw it, that they hasted and rose up early, and the men of the city went out against Israel to battle, he and all his people, at a time appointed, before the plain; but he
wist not that there were liers in
ambush against him behind the city.
When the king of
Ai saw the Israelites, he
hurried out early in the morning with the men of the city to
engage them in battle at an appointed place overlooking the Arabah. But he did not know that an
ambush had
been set up against him behind the city.
As Moses the servant of the LORD commanded the children of Israel, as it is written in the book of the law of Moses, an altar of whole stones, over which no man hath lift up any iron: and they offered
thereon burnt offerings unto the LORD, and sacrificed peace offerings.
just as Moses the servant of the LORD had commanded the Israelites. He built it according to what is written in the Book of the Law of Moses: “an altar of uncut stones on which no iron tool has been used.” And on it they offered burnt offerings to the LORD, and they sacrificed peace offerings.
They did work
wilily, and went and made as if they had
been ambassadors, and took old sacks upon their
asses, and wine bottles, old, and rent, and bound up;
And the children of Israel journeyed, and came unto their cities on the third day. Now their cities were
Gibeon, and Chephirah, and
Beeroth, and Kirjath-jearim.
So the Israelites set out and on the third day arrived at their cities—
Gibeon, Chephirah,
Beeroth, and Kiriath-jearim.
And there was no day like that before it or after it, that the LORD
hearkened unto the voice of a man: for the LORD fought for Israel.
There has
been no day like it before or since, when the LORD
listened to the voice of a man, because the LORD fought for Israel.
And it was told Joshua, saying, The five kings are found
hid in a cave at Makkedah.
And Joshua was informed: “The five kings have been found; they are hiding in the cave at Makkedah.”
And it came to pass at the time of the going down of the sun, that Joshua commanded, and they took them down off the trees, and cast them into the cave wherein they had
been hid, and laid great stones in the cave’s mouth, which remain until this very day.
At
sunset Joshua ordered that they be taken down from the trees and thrown into the cave in which they had hidden. Then large stones were placed against the mouth of the cave, and the stones are there to this day.
And Hazar-shual, and
Beer-
sheba, and Bizjothjah,
And they had in their inheritance
Beer-
sheba, or
Sheba, and Moladah,
Their inheritance lay within the territory of Judah and included
Beersheba (or
Sheba), Moladah,
And all the villages that were round about these cities to Baalath-
beer, Ramath of the south. This is the inheritance of the tribe of the children of
Simeon according to their families.
and all the villages surrounding these cities as far as Baalath-
beer (
Ramah of the Negev). This was the inheritance of the clans of the tribe of
Simeon.
And unto the children of Gershon, of the families of the Levites, out of the other half tribe of
Manasseh they gave Golan in
Bashan with her suburbs, to be a city of refuge for the
slayer; and
Beesh-terah with her suburbs; two cities.
This is what the
Levite clans of the Gershonites were given: From the half-tribe of
Manasseh they were given Golan in
Bashan, a city of refuge for the
manslayer, and
Beeshterah—two cities, together with their pasturelands.
For the LORD hath driven out from before you great nations and strong: but as for you, no man hath been able to stand before you unto this day.
The LORD has driven out great and powerful nations before you, and to this day no one can stand against you.
If ye
forsake the LORD, and serve strange gods, then he will turn and do you
hurt, and
consume you, after that he hath done you good.
If you
forsake the LORD and serve foreign gods, He will turn and bring
disaster on you and
consume you, even after He has
been good to you.”
And
Eleazar the son of Aaron died; and they buried him in a hill that
pertained to
Phinehas his son, which was given him in mount Ephraim.
Eleazar son of Aaron also died, and they buried him at Gibeah, which had
been given to his son
Phinehas in the hill country of Ephraim.
And also all that generation were gathered unto their fathers: and there arose another generation after them, which knew not the LORD, nor yet the works which he had done for Israel.
After that whole generation had also been gathered to their fathers, another generation rose up who did not know the LORD or the works that He had done for Israel.
And Jotham ran away, and fled, and went to
Beer, and dwelt there, for fear of
Abimelech his brother.
Then Jotham ran away, escaping to
Beer, and he lived there for fear of his brother
Abimelech.
But the angel of the LORD did no more appear to
Manoah and to his wife. Then
Manoah knew that he was an angel of the LORD.
And when the angel of the LORD did not appear again to
Manoah and his wife,
Manoah realized that it had
been the angel of the LORD.
And after a time he returned to take her, and he turned aside to see the
carcase of the lion: and, behold, there was a
swarm of
bees and honey in the
carcase of the lion.
When
Samson returned later to take her, he left the road to see the lion’s
carcass, and in it was a
swarm of
bees, along with their honey.
And
Samson said unto her, If they bind me with seven green withs that were never dried, then shall I be weak, and be as another man.
Samson told her, “If they
tie me up with seven fresh bowstrings that have not
been dried, I will become as weak as any other man.”
Then the lords of the Philistines brought up to her seven green withs which had not been dried, and she bound him with them.
So the lords of the Philistines brought her seven fresh bowstrings that had not
been dried, and she
tied him up with them.
And he said unto her, If they bind me fast with new ropes that never were occupied, then shall I be weak, and be as another man.
He replied, “If they
tie me up with new ropes that have never
been used, I will become as weak as any other man.”
That he told her all his heart, and said unto her. There hath not come a
razor upon mine head; for I have
been a
Nazarite unto God from my mother’s
womb: if I be
shaven, then my strength will go from me, and I shall become weak, and be like any other man.
Samson told her all that was in his heart: “My hair has never
been cut, because I have
been a
Nazirite to God from my mother’s
womb. If I am
shaved, my strength will leave me, and I will become as weak as any other man.”
Howbeit the hair of his head began to grow again after he was
shaven.
However, the hair of his head began to grow back after it had
been shaved.
And there was a young man out of Bethlehemjudah of the family of Judah, who was a
Levite, and he
sojourned there.
And there was a young
Levite from
Bethlehem in Judah who had
been residing within the clan of Judah.
And his
concubine played the
whore against him, and went away from him unto her father’s house to Bethlehemjudah, and was there four whole months.
But she was unfaithful to him and left him to return to her father’s house in
Bethlehem in Judah. After she had
been there four months,
And it was so, that all that saw it said, There was no such deed done nor seen from the day that the children of Israel came up out of the land of Egypt unto this day: consider of it, take advice, and speak your minds.
And
everyone who saw it said, “Nothing like this has
been seen or done from the day the Israelites came out of the land of Egypt until this day. Think it over, take counsel, and speak up!”
Then all the children of Israel went out, and the congregation was gathered together as one man, from
Dan even to
Beer-
sheba, with the land of
Gilead, unto the LORD in Mizpeh.
Then all the Israelites from
Dan to
Beersheba and from the land of
Gilead came out, and the congregation assembled as one man before the LORD at
Mizpah.
So the children of Benjamin saw that they were
smitten: for the men of Israel gave place to the Benjamites, because they trusted unto the liers in wait which they had set beside Gibeah.
Then the Benjamites realized they had
been defeated. Now the men of Israel had retreated before Benjamin because they were relying on the
ambush they had set against Gibeah.
Then the elders of the congregation said, How shall we do for wives for them that remain, seeing the women are destroyed out of Benjamin?
Then the elders of the congregation said, “What should we do about wives for those who remain, since the women of Benjamin have been destroyed?”
Wherefore she went forth out of the place where she was, and her two daughters in law with her; and they went on the way to return unto the land of Judah.
Accompanied by her two daughters-in-law, she left the place where she had been living and set out on the road leading back to the land of Judah.
And Boaz answered and said unto her, It hath fully
been shewed me, all that thou hast done unto thy mother in law since the death of thine husband: and how thou hast left thy father and thy mother, and the land of thy
nativity, and art come unto a people which thou knewest not
heretofore.
Boaz replied, “I have been made fully aware of all you have done for your mother-in-law since the death of your husband, how you left your father and mother and the land of your birth, and how you came to a people you did not know before.
And now is not Boaz of our kindred, with whose maidens thou
wast? Behold, he winnoweth barley to night in the threshingfloor.
Now is not Boaz, with whose servant girls you have
been working, a relative of ours? In fact,
tonight he is
winnowing barley on the
threshing floor.
And the women her neighbours gave it a name, saying, There is a son born to
Naomi; and they called his name Obed: he is the father of
Jesse, the father of David.
The
neighbor women said, “A son has
been born to
Naomi,” and they named him Obed. He became the father of
Jesse, the father of David.
Now
Hannah, she spake in her heart; only her lips moved, but her voice was not heard: therefore
Eli thought she had
been drunken.
Hannah was praying in her heart, and though her lips were moving, her voice could not be heard. So
Eli thought she was
drunk Count not thine
handmaid for a daughter of
Belial: for out of the abundance of my
complaint and grief have I spoken hitherto.
Do not take your servant for a wicked woman; for all this time I have
been praying out of the depth of my
anguish and grief.”
Now Samuel did not yet know the LORD, neither was the word of the LORD yet revealed unto him.
Now Samuel did not yet know the LORD, because the word of the LORD had not yet been revealed to him.
And all Israel from
Dan even to
Beer-
sheba knew that Samuel was established to be a prophet of the LORD.
So all Israel from
Dan to
Beersheba knew that Samuel was confirmed as a prophet of the LORD.
And the Philistines were afraid, for they said, God is come into the camp. And they said,
Woe unto us! for there hath not
been such a thing
heretofore.
the Philistines were afraid. “The gods have entered their camp!” they said. “
Woe to us, for nothing like this has happened before.
Be strong, and
quit yourselves like men, O ye Philistines, that ye be not servants unto the Hebrews, as they have
been to you:
quit yourselves like men, and fight.
Take courage and be men, O Philistines! Otherwise, you will serve the Hebrews just as they served you. Now be men and fight!”
And the
messenger answered and said, Israel is fled before the Philistines, and there hath
been also a great slaughter among the people, and thy two sons also,
Hophni and
Phinehas, are dead, and the ark of God is taken.
The
messenger answered, “Israel has fled before the Philistines, and there has
been a great slaughter among the people. Your two sons,
Hophni and
Phinehas, are both dead, and the ark of God has
been captured.”
And she named the child I-chabod, saying, The glory is departed from Israel: because the ark of God was taken, and because of her father in law and her husband.
And she named the boy Ichabod, saying, “The glory has departed from Israel,” because the ark of God had been captured and her father-in-law and her husband had been killed.
And she said, The glory is departed from Israel: for the ark of God is taken.
“The glory has departed from Israel,” she said, “for the ark of God has been captured.”
And the ark of the LORD was in the country of the Philistines seven months.
When the ark of the LORD had been in the land of the Philistines seven months,
And they said, If ye send away the ark of the God of Israel, send it not empty; but in any wise return him a
trespass offering: then ye shall be
healed, and it shall be known to you why his hand is not removed from you.
They replied, “If you return the ark of the God of Israel, do not send it away empty, but by all means return it to Him with a guilt offering. Then you will be
healed, and you will understand why His hand has not
been lifted from you.”
Now therefore make a new
cart, and take two
milch kine, on which there hath come no yoke, and
tie the
kine to the
cart, and bring their
calves home from them:
Now, therefore, prepare one new
cart with two milk cows that have never
been yoked.
Hitch the cows to the
cart, but take their
calves away and pen them up.
And as for thine
asses that were lost three days ago, set not thy mind on them; for they are found. And on whom is all the desire of Israel? Is it not on thee, and on all thy father’s house?
As for the
donkeys you lost three days ago, do not
worry about them, for they have
been found. And upon whom is all the desire of Israel, if not upon you and all your father’s house?”
And the
cook took up the shoulder, and that which was upon it, and set it before Saul. And Samuel said, Behold that which is left! set it before thee, and eat: for unto this time hath it
been kept for thee since I said, I have invited the people. So Saul did eat with Samuel that day.
So the
cook picked up the leg and what was attached to it and set it before Saul. Then Samuel said, “Here is what was kept back. It was set apart for you. Eat, for it has
been kept for you for this occasion, from the time I said, ‘I have invited the people.’” So Saul
dined with Samuel that day.
When thou art departed from me to day, then thou shalt find two men by
Rachel’s
sepulchre in the border of Benjamin at Zelzah; and they will say unto thee, The
asses which thou wentest to seek are found: and, lo, thy father hath left the care of the
asses, and sorroweth for you, saying, What shall I do for my son?
When you leave me
today, you will find two men at
Rachel’s tomb in Zelzah on the border of Benjamin. They will say to you, ‘The
donkeys you seek have
been found, and now your father has stopped
worrying about the
donkeys and started
worrying about you, asking, “What should I do about my son?”’
And Saul said unto his uncle, He told us plainly that the
asses were found. But of the matter of the kingdom,
whereof Samuel spake, he told him not.
And Saul replied, “He
assured us that the
donkeys had
been found.” But Saul did not tell his uncle what Samuel had said about the
kingship.
