And Adam said, This is now bone of my bones, and flesh of my flesh: she shall be called Woman, because she was taken out of Man.
And the man said: “This is now bone of my bones and flesh of my flesh; she shall be called ‘woman,’ for out of man she was taken.”
Wherefore she said unto Abraham, Cast out this
bondwoman and her son: for the son of this
bondwoman shall not be heir with my son, even with Isaac.
and she said to Abraham, “
Expel the slave woman and her son, for the slave woman’s son will never share in the inheritance with my son Isaac!”
And God said unto Abraham, Let it not be
grievous in thy sight because of the
lad, and because of thy
bondwoman; in all that
Sarah hath said unto thee,
hearken unto her voice; for in Isaac shall thy seed be called.
But God said to Abraham, “Do not be distressed about the boy and your
maidservant.
Listen to everything that
Sarah tells you, for through Isaac your offspring will be reckoned.
And also of the son of the
bondwoman will I make a nation, because he is thy seed.
But I will also make a nation of the slave woman’s son, because he is your offspring.”
And
Laban said to him, Surely thou art my
bone and my flesh. And he abode with him the space of a month.
Then
Laban declared, “You are indeed my own flesh and blood.” After Jacob had stayed with him a month,
And the men were afraid, because they were brought into Joseph’s house; and they said, Because of the money that was returned in our sacks at the first time are we brought in; that he may seek occasion against us, and fall upon us, and take us for
bondmen, and our
asses.
But the brothers were
frightened that they had been taken to Joseph’s house. “We have been brought here because of the silver that was returned in our bags the first time,” they said. “They intend to overpower us and take us as slaves, along with our
donkeys.”
With
whomsoever of thy servants it be found, both let him die, and we also will be my lord’s
bondmen.
If any of your servants is found to have it, he must die, and the rest will become slaves of my lord.”
Now therefore, I pray thee, let thy servant
abide instead of the
lad a
bondman to my lord; and let the
lad go up with his brethren.
Now please let your servant stay here as my lord’s slave in place of the boy. Let him return with his brothers.
And Joseph took an oath of the children of Israel, saying, God will surely visit you, and ye shall carry up my bones from hence.
And Joseph made the sons of Israel take an oath and said, “God will surely attend to you, and then you must carry my bones up from this place.”
And they made their lives bitter with hard
bondage, in
morter, and in brick, and in all manner of service in the field: all their service, wherein they made them serve, was with rigour.
and made their lives bitter with hard labor in brick and mortar, and with all kinds of work in the fields. Every service they imposed was harsh.
And it came to pass in process of time, that the king of Egypt died: and the children of Israel
sighed by reason of the
bondage, and they
cried, and their cry came up unto God by reason of the
bondage.
After a long time, the king of Egypt died. The Israelites
groaned and
cried out under their burden of slavery, and their cry for
deliverance from
bondage ascended to God.
And I have also heard the
groaning of the children of Israel, whom the Egyptians keep in
bondage; and I have remembered my covenant.
Wherefore say unto the children of Israel, I am the LORD, and I will bring you out from under the burdens of the Egyptians, and I will rid you out of their
bondage, and I will
redeem you with a stretched out arm, and with great judgments:
Therefore tell the Israelites: ‘I am the LORD, and I will bring you out from under the yoke of the Egyptians and deliver you from their
bondage. I will
redeem you with an outstretched arm and with mighty acts of judgment.
And Moses spake so unto the children of Israel: but they
hearkened not unto Moses for
anguish of spirit, and for cruel
bondage.
Moses relayed this message to the Israelites, but on account of their broken spirit and cruel
bondage, they did not
listen to him.
In one house shall it be eaten; thou shalt not carry forth ought of the flesh abroad out of the house; neither shall ye break a bone thereof.
It must be eaten inside one house. You are not to take any of the meat outside the house, and you may not break any of the bones.
And Moses said unto the people, Remember this day, in which ye came out from Egypt, out of the house of
bondage; for by strength of hand the LORD brought you out from this place: there shall no
leavened bread be eaten.
So Moses told the people, “Remember this day, the day you came out of Egypt, out of the house of slavery; for the LORD brought you out of it by the strength of His hand. And nothing
leavened shall be eaten.
And it shall be when thy son asketh thee in time to come, saying, What is this? that thou shalt say unto him, By strength of hand the LORD brought us out from Egypt, from the house of
bondage:
In the future, when your son asks you, ‘What does this mean?’ you are to tell him, ‘With a mighty hand the LORD brought us out of Egypt, out of the house of slavery.
And Moses took the
bones of Joseph with him: for he had straitly
sworn the children of Israel, saying, God will surely visit you; and ye shall carry up my
bones away hence with you.
Moses took the
bones of Joseph with him because Joseph had made the sons of Israel
swear a solemn oath when he said, “God will surely attend to you, and then you must carry my
bones with you from this place.”
I am the LORD thy God, which have brought thee out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of
bondage.
“I am the LORD your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of slavery.
And for Aaron’s sons thou shalt make coats, and thou shalt make for them girdles, and bonnets shalt thou make for them, for glory and for beauty.
Make tunics, sashes, and headbands for Aaron’s sons, to give them glory and
splendor.
And thou shalt
gird them with girdles, Aaron and his sons, and put the
bonnets on them: and the priest’s office shall be theirs for a perpetual statute: and thou shalt
consecrate Aaron and his sons.
Wrap the sashes around Aaron and his sons and
tie headbands on them. The priesthood shall be theirs by a permanent statute. In this way you are to
ordain Aaron and his sons.
And a
mitre of fine linen, and goodly
bonnets of fine linen, and linen
breeches of fine
twined linen,
as well as the
turban of fine linen, the
ornate headbands and undergarments of finely
spun linen,
And Moses brought Aaron’s sons, and put coats upon them, and
girded them with girdles, and put
bonnets upon them; as the LORD commanded Moses.
Then Moses presented Aaron’s sons, put tunics on them,
wrapped sashes around them, and
tied headbands on them, just as the LORD had commanded him.
And
whosoever lieth
carnally with a woman, that is a
bondmaid,
betrothed to an husband, and not at all redeemed, nor freedom given her; she shall be
scourged; they shall not be put to death, because she was not free.
If a man lies
carnally with a slave
girl promised to another man but who has not been redeemed or given her freedom, there must be due punishment. But they are not to be put to death, because she had not been freed.
And if thy brother that dwelleth by thee be
waxen poor, and be sold unto thee; thou shalt not
compel him to serve as a
bondservant:
If a
countryman among you becomes destitute and sells himself to you, then you must not force him into slave labor.
For they are my servants, which I brought forth out of the land of Egypt: they shall not be sold as
bondmen.
Because the Israelites are My servants, whom I brought out of the land of Egypt, they are not to be sold as slaves.
Both thy
bondmen, and thy
bondmaids, which thou shalt have, shall be of the heathen that are round about you; of them shall ye
buy bondmen and
bondmaids.
Your menservants and maidservants shall come from the nations around you, from whom you may purchase them.
And ye shall take them as an inheritance for your children after you, to
inherit them for a possession; they shall be your
bondmen for ever: but over your brethren the children of Israel, ye shall not rule one over another with rigour.
You may leave them to your sons after you to
inherit as property; you can make them slaves for life. But as for your brothers, the Israelites, no man may rule harshly over his brother.
I am the LORD your God, which brought you forth out of the land of Egypt, that ye should not be their
bondmen; and I have broken the bands of your yoke, and made you go upright.
I am the LORD your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt so that you would no longer be slaves to the Egyptians. I broke the bars of your yoke and enabled you to walk in uprightness.
They shall leave none of it unto the morning, nor break any
bone of it: according to all the ordinances of the
passover they shall keep it.
they may not leave any of it until morning or break any of its
bones. They must observe the
Passover according to all its statutes.
And
whosoever toucheth one that is slain with a sword in the open fields, or a dead body, or a
bone of a man, or a grave, shall be unclean seven days.
Anyone in the open field who touches someone who has been killed by the sword or has died of natural causes, or
anyone who touches a human
bone or a grave, will be unclean for seven days.
And a clean person shall take
hyssop, and dip it in the water, and
sprinkle it upon the tent, and upon all the vessels, and upon the persons that were there, and upon him that touched a
bone, or one slain, or one dead, or a grave:
Then a man who is
ceremonially clean is to take some
hyssop, dip it in the water, and
sprinkle the tent, all the furnishings, and the people who were there. He is also to
sprinkle the one who touched a
bone, a grave, or a person who has died or been slain.
God brought him forth out of Egypt; he hath as it were the strength of an
unicorn: he shall eat up the nations his enemies, and shall break their
bones, and
pierce them through with his arrows.
God brought him out of Egypt with strength like a wild ox, to
devour hostile nations and
crush their
bones, to
pierce them with arrows.
If a man
vow a
vow unto the LORD, or
swear an oath to bind his soul with a
bond; he shall not break his word, he shall do according to all that proceedeth out of his mouth.
If a man makes a
vow to the LORD or swears an oath to
obligate himself by a
pledge, he must not break his word; he must do everything he has promised.
If a woman also
vow a
vow unto the LORD, and bind herself by a
bond, being in her father’s house in her youth;
And if a woman in her father’s house during her youth makes a
vow to the LORD or obligates herself by a
pledge,
And her father hear her
vow, and her
bond wherewith she hath bound her soul, and her father shall hold his peace at her: then all her vows shall stand, and every
bond wherewith she hath bound her soul shall stand.
and her father hears about her
vow or
pledge but says nothing to her, then all the vows or pledges by which she has bound herself shall stand.
But if her father disallow her in the day that he heareth; not any of her vows, or of her
bonds wherewith she hath bound her soul, shall stand: and the LORD shall
forgive her, because her father disallowed her.
But if her father prohibits her on the day he hears about it, then none of the vows or pledges by which she has bound herself shall stand. The LORD will
absolve her because her father has prohibited her.
And her husband heard it, and held his peace at her in the day that he heard it: then her vows shall stand, and her
bonds wherewith she bound her soul shall stand.
and her husband hears of it but says nothing to her on that day, then the vows or pledges by which she has bound herself shall stand.
And if she
vowed in her husband’s house, or bound her soul by a
bond with an oath;
If a woman in her husband’s house has made a
vow or put herself under an obligation with an oath,
And her husband heard it, and held his peace at her, and disallowed her not: then all her vows shall stand, and every
bond wherewith she bound her soul shall stand.
and her husband hears of it but says nothing to her and does not
prohibit her, then all the vows or pledges by which she has bound herself shall stand.
But if her husband hath utterly made them void on the day he heard them; then
whatsoever proceeded out of her lips concerning her vows, or concerning the
bond of her soul, shall not stand: her husband hath made them void; and the LORD shall
forgive her.
But if her husband nullifies them on the day he hears of them, then nothing that came from her lips, whether her vows or pledges, shall stand. Her husband has
nullified them, and the LORD will
absolve her.
But if her husband altogether hold his peace at her from day to day; then he establisheth all her vows, or all her bonds, which are upon her: he confirmeth them, because he held his peace at her in the day that he heard them.
But if her husband says nothing to her from day to day, then he confirms all the vows and pledges that bind her. He has confirmed them, because he said nothing to her on the day he heard about them.
I am the LORD thy God, which brought thee out of the land of Egypt, from the house of
bondage.
“I am the LORD your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of slavery.
Then
beware lest thou
forget the LORD, which brought thee forth out of the land of Egypt, from the house of
bondage.
be careful not to
forget the LORD who brought you out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of slavery.
Then thou shalt say unto thy son, We were Pharaoh’s
bondmen in Egypt; and the LORD brought us out of Egypt with a mighty hand:
then you are to tell him, “We were slaves of Pharaoh in Egypt, but the LORD brought us out of Egypt with a mighty hand.
But because the LORD loved you, and because he would keep the oath which he had
sworn unto your fathers, hath the LORD brought you out with a mighty hand, and redeemed you out of the house of
bondmen, from the hand of Pharaoh king of Egypt.
But because the LORD loved you and kept the oath He
swore to your fathers, He brought you out with a mighty hand and redeemed you from the house of slavery, from the hand of Pharaoh king of Egypt.
Then thine heart be lifted up, and thou
forget the LORD thy God, which brought thee forth out of the land of Egypt, from the house of
bondage;
then your heart will become proud, and you will
forget the LORD your God who brought you out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of slavery.
And that prophet, or that dreamer of dreams, shall be put to death; because he hath spoken to turn you away from the LORD your God, which brought you out of the land of Egypt, and redeemed you out of the house of
bondage, to thrust thee out of the way which the LORD thy God commanded thee to walk in. So shalt thou put the evil away from the midst of thee.
Such a prophet or dreamer must be put to death, because he has advocated rebellion against the LORD your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt and redeemed you from the house of slavery; he has tried to turn you from the way in which the LORD your God has commanded you to walk. So you must
purge the evil from among you.
And thou shalt stone him with stones, that he die; because he hath sought to thrust thee away from the LORD thy God, which brought thee out of the land of Egypt, from the house of
bondage.
Stone him to death for trying to turn you away from the LORD your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of slavery.
And thou shalt remember that thou
wast a
bondman in the land of Egypt, and the LORD thy God redeemed thee: therefore I command thee this thing to day.
Remember that you were slaves in the land of Egypt, and the LORD your God redeemed you; that is why I am giving you this command
today.
And thou shalt remember that thou
wast a
bondman in Egypt: and thou shalt observe and do these statutes.
Remember that you were slaves in Egypt, and carefully follow these statutes.
But thou shalt remember that thou
wast a
bondman in Egypt, and the LORD thy God redeemed thee thence: therefore I command thee to do this thing.
Remember that you were slaves in Egypt, and the LORD your God redeemed you from that place. Therefore I am commanding you to do this.
And thou shalt remember that thou
wast a
bondman in the land of Egypt: therefore I command thee to do this thing.
Remember that you were slaves in the land of Egypt. Therefore I am commanding you to do this.
But the Egyptians mistreated us and
afflicted us, putting us to hard labor.
And the LORD shall bring thee into Egypt again with ships, by the way
whereof I spake unto thee, Thou shalt see it no more again: and there ye shall be sold unto your enemies for
bondmen and
bondwomen, and no man shall
buy you.
The LORD will return you to Egypt in ships by a route that I said you should never see again. There you will sell
yourselves to your enemies as male and female slaves, but no one will
buy you.”
Now therefore ye are
cursed, and there shall none of you be freed from being
bondmen, and hewers of wood and drawers of water for the house of my God.
Now therefore you are under a
curse and will perpetually serve as woodcutters and water carriers for the house of my God.”
For the LORD our God, he it is that brought us up and our fathers out of the land of Egypt, from the house of
bondage, and which did those great signs in our sight, and preserved us in all the way wherein we went, and among all the people through whom we passed:
For the LORD our God brought us and our fathers out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of slavery, and performed these great signs before our eyes. He also protected us throughout our journey and among all the nations through which we traveled.
And the
bones of Joseph, which the children of Israel brought up out of Egypt, buried they in
Shechem, in a
parcel of ground which Jacob bought of the sons of Hamor the father of
Shechem for an hundred pieces of silver: and it became the inheritance of the children of Joseph.
And the
bones of Joseph, which the Israelites had brought up out of Egypt, were buried at
Shechem in the plot of land that Jacob had purchased from the sons of Hamor,
Shechem’s father, for a hundred pieces of silver. So it became an inheritance for Joseph’s descendants.
That the LORD sent a prophet unto the children of Israel, which said unto them, Thus saith the LORD God of Israel, I brought you up from Egypt, and brought you forth out of the house of
bondage;
He sent them a prophet, who told them, “This is what the LORD, the God of Israel, says: I brought you up out of Egypt, out of the house of slavery.
Speak, I pray you, in the ears of all the men of
Shechem, Whether is better for you, either that all the sons of Jerubbaal, which are
threescore and ten persons, reign over you, or that one reign over you? remember also that I am your
bone and your flesh.
“Please ask all the leaders of
Shechem, ‘Is it better for you that seventy men, all the sons of Jerubbaal, rule over you, or just one man?’ Remember that I am your own flesh and blood.”
And when he came unto Lehi, the Philistines
shouted against him: and the Spirit of the LORD came
mightily upon him, and the cords that were upon his arms became as flax that was burnt with fire, and his bands loosed from off his hands.
When
Samson arrived in Lehi, the Philistines came out
shouting against him. And the Spirit of the LORD came
mightily upon him. The ropes on his arms became like burnt flax, and the
bonds broke loose from his hands.
And when he was come into his house, he took a knife, and laid hold on his
concubine, and divided her, together with her
bones, into twelve pieces, and sent her into all the coasts of Israel.
When he reached his house, he
picked up a knife, took hold of his
concubine, cut her limb by limb into twelve pieces, and sent her throughout the territory of Israel.
And they took their
bones, and buried them under a tree at
Jabesh, and fasted seven days.
Then they took their
bones and buried them under the
tamarisk tree in
Jabesh, and they fasted seven days.
Then came all the tribes of Israel to David unto
Hebron, and spake, saying, Behold, we are thy
bone and thy flesh.
Then all the tribes of Israel came to David at
Hebron and said, “Here we are, your own flesh and blood.
Ye are my brethren, ye are my bones and my flesh: wherefore then are ye the last to bring back the king?
You are my brothers, my own flesh and blood. So why should you be the last to restore the king?’
And say ye to
Amasa, Art thou not of my
bone, and of my flesh? God do so to me, and more also, if thou be not captain of the host before me continually in the room of
Joab.
And say to
Amasa, ‘Aren’t you my flesh and blood? May God
punish me, and ever so severely, if from this time you are not the commander of my army in place of
Joab!’”
And David went and took the
bones of Saul and the
bones of
Jonathan his son from the men of
Jabesh-
gilead, which had
stolen them from the street of Beth-shan, where the Philistines had
hanged them, when the Philistines had slain Saul in
Gilboa:
he went and took the
bones of Saul and his son
Jonathan from the men of
Jabesh-
gilead, who had
stolen them from the public square of Beth-shan where the Philistines had hung the bodies after they had struck down Saul at
Gilboa.
And he brought up from thence the
bones of Saul and the
bones of
Jonathan his son; and they gathered the
bones of them that were
hanged.
So David had the
bones of Saul and his son
Jonathan brought from there, along with the
bones of those who had been
hanged.
And the
bones of Saul and
Jonathan his son buried they in the country of Benjamin in Zelah, in the
sepulchre of
Kish his father: and they performed all that the king commanded. And after that God was intreated for the land.
And they buried the
bones of Saul and his son
Jonathan in Zela in the land of Benjamin, in the tomb of Saul’s father
Kish. After they had done everything the king had commanded, God answered their prayers for the land.
Their children that were left after them in the land, whom the children of Israel also were not able utterly to destroy, upon those did Solomon
levy a tribute of
bondservice unto this day.
their descendants who remained in the land, those whom the Israelites were unable to
devote to destruction—Solomon conscripted these people to be forced laborers, as they are to this day.
But of the children of Israel did Solomon make no
bondmen: but they were men of war, and his servants, and his princes, and his captains, and rulers of his
chariots, and his
horsemen.
But Solomon did not
consign any of the Israelites to slavery, because they were his men of war, his servants, his officers, his captains, and the commanders of his
chariots and cavalry.
And he
cried against the altar in the word of the LORD, and said, O altar, altar, thus saith the LORD; Behold, a child shall be born unto the house of David,
Josiah by name; and upon thee shall he offer the priests of the high places that burn incense upon thee, and men’s
bones shall be burnt upon thee.
And he
cried out against the altar by the word of the LORD, “O altar, O altar, this is what the LORD says: ‘A son named
Josiah will be born to the house of David, and upon you he will sacrifice the priests of the high places who burn incense upon you, and human
bones will be burned upon you.’”
And it came to pass, after he had buried him, that he spake to his sons, saying, When I am dead, then
bury me in the
sepulchre wherein the man of God is buried; lay my
bones beside his
bones:
After he had buried him, the prophet said to his sons, “When I die, you must
bury me in the tomb where the man of God is buried. Lay my
bones beside his
bones,
Now there
cried a certain woman of the wives of the sons of the prophets unto
Elisha, saying, Thy servant my husband is dead; and thou knowest that thy servant did fear the LORD: and the
creditor is come to take unto him my two sons to be
bondmen.
Now the wife of one of the sons of the prophets
cried out to
Elisha, “Your servant, my husband, is dead, and you know that your servant feared the LORD. And now his
creditor is coming to take my two children as his slaves!”
And it came to pass, as they were
burying a man, that, behold, they
spied a band of men; and they cast the man into the
sepulchre of
Elisha: and when the man was let down, and touched the
bones of
Elisha, he revived, and stood up on his feet.
Once, as the Israelites were
burying a man, suddenly they saw a band of raiders, so they threw the man’s body into
Elisha’s tomb. And as soon as his body touched the
bones of
Elisha, the man was revived and stood up on his feet.
And he
brake in pieces the images, and cut down the groves, and filled their places with the
bones of men.
He
smashed the sacred pillars to pieces, cut down the Asherah poles, and covered the sites with human
bones.
And as
Josiah turned himself, he
spied the
sepulchres that were there in the mount, and sent, and took the
bones out of the
sepulchres, and burned them upon the altar, and
polluted it, according to the word of the LORD which the man of God proclaimed, who proclaimed these words.
And as
Josiah turned, he saw the tombs there on the
hillside, and he sent someone to take the
bones out of the tombs, and he burned them on the altar to
defile it, according to the word of the LORD proclaimed by the man of God who had
foretold these things.
And he said, Let him alone; let no man move his bones. So they let his bones alone, with the bones of the prophet that came out of Samaria.
“Let him rest,” said
Josiah. “Do not let
anyone disturb his
bones.” So they left his
bones undisturbed, along with those of the prophet who had come from Samaria.
And he
slew all the priests of the high places that were there upon the altars, and burned men’s
bones upon them, and returned to Jerusalem.
On the altars he slaughtered all the priests of the high places, and he burned human bones on them. Then he returned to Jerusalem.
They arose, all the
valiant men, and took away the body of Saul, and the bodies of his sons, and brought them to
Jabesh, and buried their
bones under the oak in
Jabesh, and fasted seven days.
all their men of
valor set out and
retrieved the bodies of Saul and his sons and brought them to
Jabesh. And they buried their
bones under the oak in
Jabesh and fasted seven days.
Then all Israel gathered themselves to David unto
Hebron, saying, Behold, we are thy
bone and thy flesh.
Then all Israel came together to David at
Hebron and said, “Here we are, your own flesh and blood.
And now ye purpose to keep under the children of Judah and Jerusalem for
bondmen and
bondwomen unto you: but are there not with you, even with you, sins against the LORD your God?
And now you intend to reduce to slavery the men and women of Judah and Jerusalem. But are you not also guilty before the LORD your God?
And he burnt the
bones of the priests upon their altars, and
cleansed Judah and Jerusalem.
Then he burned the
bones of the priests on their altars. So he
cleansed Judah and Jerusalem.
And now for a little space grace hath been shewed from the LORD our God, to leave us a
remnant to escape, and to give us a
nail in his holy place, that our God may
lighten our eyes, and give us a little
reviving in our
bondage.
But now, for a brief moment, grace has come from the LORD our God to preserve for us a
remnant and to give us a
stake in His holy place. Even in our
bondage, our God has given us new life and light to our eyes.
For we were
bondmen; yet our God hath not
forsaken us in our
bondage, but hath extended mercy unto us in the sight of the kings of Persia, to give us a
reviving, to set up the house of our God, and to repair the desolations thereof, and to give us a wall in Judah and in Jerusalem.
Though we are slaves, our God has not
forsaken us in our
bondage, but He has extended to us grace in the sight of the kings of Persia, giving us new life to rebuild the house of our God and repair its ruins, and giving us a wall of protection in Judah and Jerusalem.
Yet now our flesh is as the flesh of our brethren, our children as their children: and, lo, we bring into
bondage our sons and our daughters to be servants, and some of our daughters are brought unto
bondage already: neither is it in our power to
redeem them; for other men have our lands and vineyards.
We and our children are just like our countrymen and their children, yet we are subjecting our sons and daughters to slavery. Some of our daughters are already
enslaved, but we are powerless to
redeem them because our fields and vineyards belong to others.”
Now that which was prepared for me daily was one ox and six choice sheep; also fowls were prepared for me, and once in ten days store of all sorts of wine: yet for all this required not I the bread of the governor, because the
bondage was heavy upon this people.
Each day one ox, six choice sheep, and some fowl were prepared for me, and once every ten days an abundance of all kinds of wine was provided. But I did not demand the food
allotted to the governor, because the burden on the people was so heavy.
And refused to obey, neither were mindful of thy wonders that thou
didst among them; but
hardened their necks, and in their rebellion appointed a captain to return to their
bondage: but thou art a God ready to
pardon,
gracious and
merciful, slow to anger, and of great kindness, and forsookest them not.
They refused to
listen and failed to remember the wonders You performed among them. They
stiffened their necks and appointed a leader to return them to their
bondage in Egypt. But You are a
forgiving God,
gracious and
compassionate, slow to anger and rich in loving devotion, and You did not
forsake them.
For we are sold, I and my people, to be destroyed, to be slain, and to perish. But if we had been sold for
bondmen and
bondwomen, I had held my tongue, although the enemy could not
countervail the king’s damage.
For my people and I have been sold out to destruction, death, and
annihilation. If we had merely been sold as menservants and maidservants, I would have remained silent, because no such distress would
justify burdening the king.”
But put forth thine hand now, and touch his
bone and his flesh, and he will
curse thee to thy face.
But stretch out Your hand and strike his flesh and
bones, and he will surely
curse You to Your face.”
Thou hast clothed me with skin and flesh, and hast
fenced me with
bones and sinews.
You clothed me with skin and flesh, and
knit me together with
bones and sinews.
He looseth the
bond of kings, and girdeth their loins with a
