And he saw that rest was good, and the land that it was pleasant; and bowed his shoulder to bear, and became a servant unto tribute.
He saw that his resting place was good and that his land was pleasant, so he bent his shoulder to the burden and submitted to labor as a servant.
Therefore they did set over them taskmasters to
afflict them with their
burdens. And they built for Pharaoh
treasure cities,
Pithom and Raamses.
So the Egyptians appointed taskmasters over the Israelites to
oppress them with forced labor. As a result, they built
Pithom and
Rameses as store cities for Pharaoh.
And it came to pass in those days, when Moses was grown, that he went out unto his brethren, and looked on their
burdens: and he
spied an Egyptian
smiting an Hebrew, one of his brethren.
One day, after Moses had grown up, he went out to his own people and observed their hard labor. He saw an Egyptian beating a Hebrew, one of his own people.
And it came to pass in process of time, that the king of Egypt died: and the children of Israel
sighed by reason of the
bondage, and they
cried, and their cry came up unto God by reason of the
bondage.
After a long time, the king of Egypt died. The Israelites
groaned and
cried out under their
burden of slavery, and their cry for
deliverance from
bondage ascended to God.
And the king of Egypt said unto them, Wherefore do ye, Moses and Aaron, let the people from their works? get you unto your burdens.
But the king of Egypt said to them, “Moses and Aaron, why do you draw the people away from their work? Get back to your labor!”
And Pharaoh said, Behold, the people of the land now are many, and ye make them rest from their burdens.
Pharaoh also said, “Look, the people of the land are now numerous, and you would be
stopping them from their labor.”
Wherefore say unto the children of Israel, I am the LORD, and I will bring you out from under the
burdens of the Egyptians, and I will rid you out of their
bondage, and I will
redeem you with a stretched out arm, and with great judgments:
Therefore tell the Israelites: ‘I am the LORD, and I will bring you out from under the yoke of the Egyptians and deliver you from their
bondage. I will
redeem you with an outstretched arm and with mighty acts of judgment.
And I will take you to me for a people, and I will be to you a God: and ye shall know that I am the LORD your God, which bringeth you out from under the burdens of the Egyptians.
I will take you as My own people, and I will be your God. Then you will know that I am the LORD your God, who brought you out from under the yoke of the Egyptians.
And let them judge the people at all seasons: and it shall be, that every great matter they shall bring unto thee, but every small matter they shall judge: so shall it be easier for
thyself, and they shall bear the
burden with thee.
Have these men judge the people at all times. Then they can bring you any major issue, but all minor cases they can judge on their own, so that your load may be
lightened as they share it with you.
If thou see the
ass of him that hateth thee lying under his
burden, and wouldest
forbear to help him, thou shalt surely help with him.
If you see the
donkey of one who hates you fallen under its load, do not leave it there; you must help him with it.
And when Aaron and his sons have made an end of covering the sanctuary, and all the vessels of the sanctuary, as the camp is to set forward; after that, the sons of
Kohath shall come to bear it: but they shall not touch any holy thing, lest they die. These things are the
burden of the sons of
Kohath in the tabernacle of the congregation.
When Aaron and his sons have finished covering the holy objects and all their
equipment, as soon as the camp is ready to move, the Kohathites shall come and do the carrying. But they must not touch the holy objects, or they will die. These are the
transportation duties of the Kohathites regarding the Tent of Meeting.
But thus do unto them, that they may live, and not die, when they approach unto the most holy things: Aaron and his sons shall go in, and
appoint them every one to his service and to his
burden:
In order that they may live and not die when they come near the most holy things, do this for them: Aaron and his sons are to go in and
assign each man his task and what he is to carry.
This is the service of the families of the Gershonites, to serve, and for burdens:
This is the service of the Gershonite clans regarding work and transport:
At the appointment of Aaron and his sons shall be all the service of the sons of the Gershonites, in all their
burdens, and in all their service: and ye shall
appoint unto them in charge all their
burdens.
All the service of the Gershonites—all their transport duties and other work—is to be done at the direction of Aaron and his sons; you are to
assign to them all that they are responsible to carry.
And this is the charge of their burden, according to all their service in the tabernacle of the congregation; the boards of the tabernacle, and the bars thereof, and the pillars thereof, and sockets thereof,
This is the duty for all their service at the Tent of Meeting: to carry the frames of the tabernacle with its crossbars, posts, and bases,
And the pillars of the court round about, and their sockets, and their pins, and their cords, with all their instruments, and with all their service: and by name ye shall
reckon the instruments of the charge of their
burden.
and the posts of the surrounding
courtyard with their bases, tent pegs, and ropes, including all their
equipment and everything related to their use. You shall
assign by name the items that they are responsible to carry.

from thirty to fifty years old who came to do the work of serving and carrying the Tent of Meeting.
According to the commandment of the LORD they were numbered by the hand of Moses, every one according to his service, and according to his burden: thus were they numbered of him, as the LORD commanded Moses.
At the LORD’s command they were numbered through Moses and each one was assigned his work and burden, as the LORD had commanded Moses.
And Moses said unto the LORD, Wherefore hast thou
afflicted thy servant? and wherefore have I not found favour in thy sight, that thou layest the
burden of all this people upon me?
So Moses asked the LORD, “Why have You brought this trouble on Your servant? Why have I not found favor in Your sight, that You have laid upon me the burden of all these people?
I am not able to bear all this people alone, because it is too heavy for me.
I cannot carry all these people by myself; it is too
burdensome for me.
And I will come down and talk with thee there: and I will take of the spirit which is upon thee, and will put it upon them; and they shall bear the
burden of the people with thee, that thou bear it not
thyself alone.
And I will come down and speak with you there, and I will take some of the Spirit that is on you and put that Spirit on them. They will help you bear the
burden of the people, so that you do not have to bear it by
yourself.
And I spake unto you at that time, saying, I am not able to bear you myself alone:
At that time I said to you, “I cannot carry the burden for you alone.
How can I myself alone bear your
cumbrance, and your
burden, and your
strife?
But how can I bear your troubles, burdens, and disputes all by myself?
And the king said to
Absalom,
Nay, my son, let us not all now go, lest we be chargeable unto thee. And he pressed him:
howbeit he would not go, but blessed him.
“No, my son,” the king replied, “we should not all go, or we would be a
burden to you.” Although
Absalom urged him, he was not willing to go, but gave him his blessing.
Unto whom David said, If thou passest on with me, then thou shalt be a burden unto me:
David said to him, “If you go on with me, you will be a burden to me.
I am this day
fourscore years old: and can I
discern between good and evil? can thy servant taste what I eat or what I drink? can I hear any more the voice of singing men and singing women? wherefore then should thy servant be yet a
burden unto my lord the king?
I am now eighty years old. Can I
discern what is good and what is not? Can your servant taste what he eats or drinks? Can I still hear the voice of singing men and women? Why should your servant be an added
burden to my lord the king?
And Solomon had
threescore and ten thousand that bare
burdens, and
fourscore thousand hewers in the mountains;
Solomon had 70,000
porters and 80,000 stonecutters in the mountains,
Thy father made our yoke
grievous: now therefore make thou the
grievous service of thy father, and his heavy yoke which he put upon us, lighter, and we will serve thee.
“Your father put a heavy yoke on us. But now you should
lighten the
burden of your father’s service and the heavy yoke he put on us, and we will serve you.”
And now whereas my father did
lade you with a heavy yoke, I will add to your yoke: my father hath
chastised you with whips, but I will
chastise you with scorpions.
Whereas my father
burdened you with a heavy yoke, I will add to your yoke. Whereas my father
scourged you with whips, I will
scourge you with scorpions.’”
And
Naaman said, Shall there not then, I pray thee, be given to thy servant two mules’
burden of earth? for thy servant will henceforth offer neither burnt offering nor sacrifice unto other gods, but unto the LORD.
“If you will not,” said
Naaman, “please let me, your servant, be given as much soil as a pair of mules can carry. For your servant will never again make a burnt offering or a sacrifice to any other god but the LORD.
So
Hazael went to meet him, and took a present with him, even of every good thing of Damascus, forty camels’
burden, and came and stood before him, and said, Thy son Ben-
hadad king of Syria hath sent me to thee, saying, Shall I recover of this disease?
So
Hazael went to meet
Elisha, taking with him a gift of forty
camel loads of every good thing from Damascus. And he went in and stood before him and said, “Your son Ben-
hadad king of
Aram has sent me to ask, ‘Will I recover from this illness?’”
Then said
Jehu to Bidkar his captain, Take up, and cast him in the portion of the field of
Naboth the Jezreelite: for remember how that, when I and thou
rode together after
Ahab his father, the LORD laid this
burden upon him;
And
Jehu said to Bidkar his officer, “
Pick him up and throw him into the field of
Naboth the Jezreelite. For remember that when you and I were riding together behind his father
Ahab, the LORD lifted up this
burden against him:
And Solomon told out
threescore and ten thousand men to bear
burdens, and
fourscore thousand to
hew in the mountain, and three thousand and six hundred to oversee them.
So he conscripted 70,000
porters, 80,000 stonecutters in the mountains, and 3,600 supervisors.
And he set
threescore and ten thousand of them to be bearers of
burdens, and
fourscore thousand to be hewers in the mountain, and three thousand and six hundred overseers to set the people a work.
Solomon made 70,000 of them
porters, 80,000 stonecutters in the mountains, and 3,600 supervisors.
Thy father made our yoke
grievous: now therefore ease thou somewhat the
grievous servitude of thy father, and his heavy yoke that he put upon us, and we will serve thee.
“Your father put a heavy yoke on us. But now you should
lighten the
burden of your father’s service and the heavy yoke he put on us, and we will serve you.”
For whereas my father put a heavy yoke upon you, I will put more to your yoke: my father
chastised you with whips, but I will
chastise you with scorpions.
Whereas my father
burdened you with a heavy yoke, I will add to your yoke. Whereas my father
scourged you with whips, I will
scourge you with scorpions.’”
Now concerning his sons, and the greatness of the
burdens laid upon him, and the repairing of the house of God, behold, they are written in the story of the book of the kings. And
Amaziah his son reigned in his
stead.
The accounts of the sons of
Joash, as well as the many pronouncements about him and about the restoration of the house of God, are indeed written in the Treatise of the Book of the Kings. And his son
Amaziah reigned in his place.
Also they were over the bearers of
burdens, and were overseers of all that wrought the work in any manner of service: and of the Levites there were
scribes, and officers, and
porters.
were over the laborers and
supervised all who did the work, task by task. Some of the Levites were
secretaries, officers, and gatekeepers.
And said unto the Levites that taught all Israel, which were holy unto the LORD, Put the holy ark in the house which Solomon the son of David king of Israel did build; it shall not be a burden upon your shoulders: serve now the LORD your God, and his people Israel,
To the Levites who taught all Israel and were holy to the LORD,
Josiah said: “Put the holy ark in the temple built by Solomon son of David king of Israel. It is not to be carried around on your shoulders. Now serve the LORD your God and His people Israel.
And Judah said, The strength of the bearers of
burdens is decayed, and there is much
rubbish; so that we are not able to build the wall.
Meanwhile, the people of Judah said: “The strength of the laborer fails, and there is so much
rubble that we will never be able to rebuild the wall.”
They which builded on the wall, and they that bare
burdens, with those that
laded, every one with one of his hands wrought in the work, and with the other hand held a weapon.
who were rebuilding the wall. The laborers who carried materials worked with one hand and held a weapon with the other.
But the former governors that had been before me were chargeable unto the people, and had taken of them bread and wine, beside forty shekels of silver;
yea, even their servants bare rule over the people: but so did not I, because of the fear of God.
The governors before me had
heavily burdened the people, taking from them bread and wine
plus forty shekels of silver. Their servants also
oppressed the people, but I did not do this because of my fear of God.
Now that which was prepared for me daily was one ox and six choice sheep; also fowls were prepared for me, and once in ten days store of all sorts of wine: yet for all this required not I the bread of the governor, because the
bondage was heavy upon this people.
Each day one ox, six choice sheep, and some fowl were prepared for me, and once every ten days an abundance of all kinds of wine was provided. But I did not demand the food
allotted to the governor, because the
burden on the people was so heavy.
In those days saw I in Judah some
treading winepresses on the sabbath, and bringing in
sheaves, and
lading asses; as also wine, grapes, and figs, and all manner of
burdens, which they brought into Jerusalem on the sabbath day: and I
testified against them in the day wherein they sold
victuals.
In those days I saw people in Judah
treading winepresses on the Sabbath and bringing in grain and loading it on
donkeys, along with wine, grapes, and figs. All kinds of goods were being brought into Jerusalem on the Sabbath day. So I
warned them against selling food on that day.
And it came to pass, that when the gates of Jerusalem began to be dark before the sabbath, I commanded that the gates should be shut, and charged that they should not be opened till after the sabbath: and some of my servants set I at the gates, that there should no burden be brought in on the sabbath day.
When the evening shadows began to fall on the gates of Jerusalem, just before the Sabbath, I ordered that the gates be shut and not opened until after the Sabbath. I posted some of my servants at the gates so that no load could enter on the Sabbath day.
For we are sold, I and my people, to be destroyed, to be slain, and to perish. But if we had been sold for
bondmen and
bondwomen, I had held my tongue, although the enemy could not
countervail the king’s damage.
For my people and I have been sold out to destruction, death, and
annihilation. If we had merely been sold as menservants and maidservants, I would have remained silent, because no such distress would
justify burdening the king.”
I have
sinned; what shall I do unto thee, O thou preserver of men? why hast thou set me as a mark against thee, so that I am a
burden to myself?
If I have
sinned, what have I done to You, O watcher of mankind? Why have You made me Your
target, so that I am a
burden to You?
For mine
iniquities are gone over mine head: as an heavy
burden they are too heavy for me.
Cast thy
burden upon the LORD, and he shall
sustain thee: he shall never suffer the righteous to be moved.
Cast your
burden upon the LORD and He will
sustain you; He will never let the righteous be
shaken.
Thou broughtest us into the net; thou laidst
affliction upon our loins.
You led us into the net; You laid burdens on our backs.
Blessed be the Lord, who daily loadeth us with benefits, even the God of our salvation.
Selah.
Blessed be the Lord, who daily bears our
burden, the God of our salvation.
Selah They are not in trouble as other men; neither are they plagued like other men.
They are free of the
burdens others carry; they are not
afflicted like other men.
I removed his shoulder from the burden: his hands were delivered from the pots.
“I relieved his shoulder of the
burden; his hands were freed from the
basket.
A stone is heavy, and the sand
weighty; but a
fool’s wrath is heavier than them both.
A stone is heavy and sand is a
burden, but
aggravation from a
fool outweighs them both.
A man that doeth violence to the blood of any person shall
flee to the pit; let no man stay him.
A man
burdened by bloodguilt will
flee into the Pit; let no one support him.
The words of
Agur the son of Jakeh, even the prophecy: the man spake unto Ithiel, even unto Ithiel and Ucal,
These are the words of
Agur son of Jakeh—the
burden that this man declared to Ithiel: “I am
weary, O God, and worn out.
The words of king
Lemuel, the prophecy that his mother taught him.
These are the words of King
Lemuel—the
burden that his mother taught him:
And I gave my heart to seek and search out by wisdom concerning all things that are done under heaven: this
sore travail hath God given to the sons of man to be exercised
therewith.
And I set my mind to seek and
explore by wisdom all that is done under heaven. What a heavy
burden God has laid upon the sons of men to occupy them!
I have seen the
travail, which God hath given to the sons of men to be exercised in it.
I have seen the burden that God has laid upon the sons of men to occupy them.
Also when they shall be afraid of that which is high, and fears shall be in the way, and the
almond tree shall
flourish, and the
grasshopper shall be a
burden, and desire shall fail: because man goeth to his long home, and the mourners go about the streets:
when men fear the heights and dangers of the road, when the
almond tree blossoms, the
grasshopper loses its spring, and the caper
berry shrivels— for then man goes to his eternal home and mourners walk the streets.
Your new moons and your appointed feasts my soul hateth: they are a trouble unto me; I am
weary to bear them.
I
hate your New Moons and your appointed feasts. They have become a
burden to Me; I am
weary of bearing them.
For thou hast broken the yoke of his
burden, and the staff of his shoulder, the rod of his
oppressor, as in the day of
Midian.
For as in the day of
Midian You have
shattered the yoke of their
burden, the bar across their shoulders, and the rod of their
oppressor.
And it shall come to pass in that day, that his
burden shall be taken away from off thy shoulder, and his yoke from off thy neck, and the yoke shall be destroyed because of the
anointing.
On that day the burden will be lifted from your shoulders, and the yoke from your neck. The yoke will be broken because your neck will be too large.
The burden of Babylon, which Isaiah the son of Amoz did see.
This is the burden against Babylon that Isaiah son of Amoz received:
That I will break the Assyrian in my land, and upon my mountains
tread him under foot: then shall his yoke depart from off them, and his
burden depart from off their shoulders.
I will break Assyria in My land; I will
trample him on My mountain. His yoke will be taken off My people, and his
burden removed from their shoulders.”
In the year that king
Ahaz died was this
burden.
In the year that King
Ahaz died, this
burden was received:
The burden of Moab. Because in the night Ar of Moab is laid waste, and brought to silence; because in the night Kir of Moab is laid waste, and brought to silence;
This is the
burden against Moab: Ar in Moab is ruined, destroyed in a night! Kir in Moab is
devastated, destroyed in a night!
The
burden of Damascus. Behold, Damascus is taken away from being a city, and it shall be a
ruinous heap.
This is the
burden against Damascus: “Behold, Damascus is no longer a city; it has become a
heap of ruins.
The
burden of Egypt. Behold, the LORD rideth upon a swift cloud, and shall come into Egypt: and the idols of Egypt shall be moved at his presence, and the heart of Egypt shall
melt in the midst of it.
This is the
burden against Egypt: Behold, the LORD rides on a swift cloud; He is coming to Egypt. The idols of Egypt will
tremble before Him, and the hearts of the Egyptians will
melt within them.
The burden of the desert of the sea. As whirlwinds in the south pass through; so it cometh from the desert, from a terrible land.
This is the
burden against the Desert by the Sea: Like whirlwinds
sweeping through the Negev, an
invader comes from the desert, from a land of terror.
The
burden of Dumah. He calleth to me out of
Seir,
Watchman, what of the night?
Watchman, what of the night?
This is the
burden against Dumah: One calls to me from
Seir, “
Watchman, what is left of the night?
Watchman, what is left of the night?”
The
burden upon Arabia. In the forest in Arabia shall ye
lodge, O ye travelling companies of Dedanim.
This is the
burden against Arabia: In the thickets of Arabia you must
lodge, O caravans of Dedanites.
The burden of the valley of vision. What aileth thee now, that thou art wholly gone up to the housetops?
This is the burden against the Valley of Vision: What ails you now, that you have all gone up to the rooftops,
In that day, saith the LORD of hosts, shall the
nail that is fastened in the sure place be removed, and be cut down, and fall; and the
burden that was upon it shall be cut off: for the LORD hath spoken it.
In that day, declares the LORD of Hosts, the
peg driven into a firm place will give way; it will be
sheared off and fall, and the load upon it will be cut down.” Indeed, the LORD has spoken.
The
burden of Tyre.
Howl, ye ships of
Tarshish; for it is laid waste, so that there is no house, no entering in: from the land of
Chittim it is revealed to them.
This is the
burden against Tyre:
Wail, O ships of
Tarshish, for Tyre is laid waste, without house or
harbor. Word has reached them from the land of
Cyprus.
The
burden of the beasts of the south: into the land of trouble and
anguish, from whence come the young and old lion, the
viper and
fiery flying serpent, they will carry their riches upon the shoulders of young
asses, and their treasures upon the bunches of camels, to a people that shall not profit them.
This is the
burden against the beasts of the Negev: Through a land of
hardship and distress, of
lioness and lion, of
viper and flying serpent, they carry their wealth on the backs of
donkeys and their treasures on the humps of camels, to a people of no profit to them.
Behold, the name of the LORD cometh from far, burning with his anger, and the
burden thereof is heavy: his lips are full of
indignation, and his tongue as a
devouring fire:
Behold, the Name of the LORD comes from
afar, with burning anger and dense smoke. His lips are full of
fury, and His tongue is like a
consuming fire.
Thou hast not brought me the small cattle of thy burnt offerings; neither hast thou honoured me with thy sacrifices. I have not caused thee to serve with an offering, nor
wearied thee with incense.
You have not brought Me sheep for burnt offerings, nor honored Me with your sacrifices. I have not
burdened you with offerings, nor
wearied you with
frankincense.
Thou hast bought me no sweet cane with money, neither hast thou filled me with the fat of thy sacrifices: but thou hast made me to serve with thy sins, thou hast
wearied me with thine
iniquities.
You have not bought Me sweet cane with your silver, nor satisfied Me with the fat of your sacrifices. But you have
burdened Me with your sins; you have
wearied Me with your
iniquities.
Bel boweth down,
Nebo stoopeth, their idols were upon the beasts, and upon the cattle: your carriages were heavy loaden; they are a
burden to the
weary beast.
They
stoop, they bow down together; they could not deliver the
burden, but themselves are gone into captivity.
The gods cower; they
crouch together, unable to
relieve the
burden; but they themselves go into captivity.
Is not this the fast that I have chosen? to loose the bands of wickedness, to
undo the heavy
burdens, and to let the
oppressed go free, and that ye break every yoke?
Isn’t this the fast that I have chosen: to break the chains of wickedness, to
untie the cords of the yoke, to set the
oppressed free and
tear off every yoke?
Thus saith the LORD; Take
heed to
yourselves, and bear no
burden on the sabbath day, nor bring it in by the gates of Jerusalem;
This is what the LORD says: Take
heed for
yourselves; do not carry a load or bring it through the gates of Jerusalem on the Sabbath day.
Neither carry forth a
burden out of your houses on the sabbath day, neither do ye any work, but
hallow ye the sabbath day, as I commanded your fathers.
You must not carry a load out of your houses or do any work on the Sabbath day, but you must keep the Sabbath day holy, just as I commanded your forefathers.
And it shall come to pass, if ye
diligently hearken unto me, saith the LORD, to bring in no
burden through the gates of this city on the sabbath day, but
hallow the sabbath day, to do no work therein;
If, however, you
listen carefully to Me, says the LORD, and bring no load through the gates of this city on the Sabbath day, and keep the Sabbath day holy, and do no work on it,
But if ye will not
hearken unto me to
hallow the sabbath day, and not to bear a
burden, even entering in at the gates of Jerusalem on the sabbath day; then will I
kindle a fire in the gates thereof, and it shall
devour the palaces of Jerusalem, and it shall not be
quenched.
But if you do not
listen to Me to keep the Sabbath day holy by not carrying a load while entering the gates of Jerusalem on the Sabbath day, then I will
kindle an
unquenchable fire in its gates to
consume the citadels of Jerusalem.’”
And when this people, or the prophet, or a priest, shall ask thee, saying, What is the
burden of the LORD? thou shalt then say unto them, What
burden? I will even
forsake you, saith the LORD.
“Now when this people or a prophet or priest asks you, ‘What is the
burden of the LORD?’ you are to say to them, ‘What
burden? I will
forsake you, declares the LORD.’
And as for the prophet, and the priest, and the people, that shall say, The
burden of the LORD, I will even
punish that man and his house.
As for the prophet or priest or
anyone who claims, ‘This is the
burden of the LORD,’ I will
punish that man and his household.
And the
burden of the LORD shall ye mention no more: for every man’s word shall be his
burden; for ye have
perverted the words of the living God, of the LORD of hosts our God.
But refer no more to the
burden of the LORD, for each man’s word becomes the
burden, so that you
pervert the words of the living God, the LORD of Hosts, our God.
But since ye say, The burden of the LORD; therefore thus saith the LORD; Because ye say this word, The burden of the LORD, and I have sent unto you, saying, Ye shall not say, The burden of the LORD;
But if you claim, ‘This is the burden of the LORD,’ then this is what the LORD says: Because you have said, ‘This is the burden of the LORD,’ and I specifically told you not to make this claim,
Thy prophets have seen vain and
foolish things for thee: and they have not discovered thine iniquity, to turn away thy captivity; but have seen for thee false
burdens and causes of
banishment.
The visions of your prophets were empty and
deceptive; they did not
expose your guilt to ward off your captivity. The
burdens they envisioned for you were empty and misleading.
Say thou unto them, Thus saith the Lord GOD; This burden concerneth the prince in Jerusalem, and all the house of Israel that are among them.
Tell them that this is what the Lord GOD says: ‘This burden concerns the prince in Jerusalem and all the house of Israel who are there.’
Yea, though they have
hired among the nations, now will I gather them, and they shall sorrow a little for the
burden of the king of princes.
Though they
hire allies among the nations, I will now round them up, and they will begin to diminish under the oppression of the king of princes.
Forasmuch therefore as your
treading is upon the poor, and ye take from him
burdens of wheat: ye have built houses of
hewn stone, but ye shall not dwell in them; ye have planted pleasant vineyards, but ye shall not drink wine of them.
Therefore, because you
trample on the poor and exact from him a tax of grain, you will never live in the stone houses you have built; you will never drink the wine from the
lush vineyards you have planted.
The
burden of
Nineveh. The book of the vision of
Nahum the Elkoshite.
This is the
burden against
Nineveh, the book of the vision of
Nahum the Elkoshite:
The
burden which
Habakkuk the prophet did see.
This is the
burden that
Habakkuk the prophet received in a vision:
I will gather them that are sorrowful for the solemn assembly, who are of thee, to whom the reproach of it was a burden.
“I will gather those among you who
grieve over the appointed feasts, so that you will no longer suffer reproach.
