And it came to pass on the seventh day, that they said unto
Samson’s wife,
Entice thy husband, that he may declare unto us the
riddle, lest we burn thee and thy father’s house with fire: have ye
called us to take that we have? is it not so?
So on the fourth day they said to
Samson’s wife, “
Entice your husband to explain the
riddle to us, or we will burn you and your father’s household to death. Did you
invite us here to
rob us?”
And it came to pass, when he had made an end of speaking, that he cast away the
jawbone out of his hand, and
called that place Ramath-lehi.
And when
Samson had finished speaking, he cast the
jawbone from his hand; and he named that place Ramath-lehi.
But God
clave an hollow place that was in the jaw, and there came water
thereout; and when he had
drunk, his spirit came again, and he revived: wherefore he
called the name thereof En-hakkore, which is in Lehi unto this day.
So God opened up the hollow place in Lehi, and water came out of it. When
Samson drank, his strength returned, and he was revived. That is why he named it En-hakkore, and it remains in Lehi to this day.
Now there were men lying in wait,
abiding with her in the chamber. And she said unto him, The Philistines be upon thee,
Samson. And he
brake the withs, as a thread of
tow is broken when it toucheth the fire. So his strength was not known.
While the men were hidden in her room, she
called out, “
Samson, the Philistines are here!” But he
snapped the bowstrings like a
strand of yarn
seared by a flame. So the source of his strength remained unknown.
Delilah therefore took new ropes, and bound him
therewith, and said unto him, The Philistines be upon thee,
Samson. And there were liers in wait
abiding in the chamber. And he
brake them from off his arms like a thread.
So
Delilah took new ropes,
tied him up with them, and
called out, “
Samson, the Philistines are here!” But while the men were hidden in her room, he
snapped the ropes off his arms like they were threads.
And she fastened it with the pin, and said unto him, The Philistines be upon thee,
Samson. And he
awaked out of his sleep, and went away with the pin of the beam, and with the web.
So while he
slept,
Delilah took the seven braids of his hair and
wove them into the web. Then she
tightened it with a pin and
called to him, “
Samson, the Philistines are here!” But he
awoke from his sleep and pulled out the pin with the
loom and the web.
And when
Delilah saw that he had told her all his heart, she sent and
called for the lords of the Philistines, saying, Come up this once, for he hath shewed me all his heart. Then the lords of the Philistines came up unto her, and brought money in their hand.
When
Delilah realized that he had revealed to her all that was in his heart, she sent this message to the lords of the Philistines: “Come up once more, for he has revealed to me all that is in his heart.” Then the lords of the Philistines came to her, bringing the money in their hands.
And she made him sleep upon her knees; and she
called for a man, and she caused him to
shave off the seven locks of his head; and she began to
afflict him, and his strength went from him.
And having
lulled him to sleep on her
lap, she
called a man to
shave off the seven braids of his head. In this way she began to
subdue him, and his strength left him.
And she said, The Philistines be upon thee,
Samson. And he
awoke out of his sleep, and said, I will go out as at other times before, and
shake myself. And he
wist not that the LORD was departed from him.
Then she
called out, “
Samson, the Philistines are here!” When
Samson awoke from his sleep, he thought, “I will escape as I did before and
shake myself free.” But he did not know that the LORD had departed from him.
And it came to pass, when their hearts were
merry, that they said,
Call for
Samson, that he may make us
sport. And they
called for
Samson out of the prison house; and he made them
sport: and they set him between the pillars.
And while their hearts were
merry, they said, “
Call for
Samson to
entertain us.” So they
called Samson out of the prison to
entertain them. And they stationed him between the pillars.
And
Samson called unto the LORD, and said, O Lord GOD, remember me, I pray thee, and
strengthen me, I pray thee, only this once, O God, that I may be at once
avenged of the Philistines for my two eyes.
Then
Samson called out to the LORD: “O Lord GOD, please remember me.
Strengthen me, O God, just once more, so that with one
vengeful blow I may pay back the Philistines for my two eyes.”
And they went up, and pitched in Kirjath-jearim, in Judah: wherefore they
called that place Mahaneh-
dan unto this day: behold, it is behind Kirjath-jearim.
They went up and camped at Kiriath-jearim in Judah. That is why the place west of Kiriath-jearim is
called Mahaneh-
dan to this day.
And they
cried unto the children of
Dan. And they turned their faces, and said unto
Micah, What aileth thee, that thou comest with such a company?
When they
called out after them, the Danites turned to face them and said to
Micah, “What is the matter with you that you have
called out such a company?”
And they
called the name of the city
Dan, after the name of
Dan their father, who was born unto Israel:
howbeit the name of the city was Laish at the first.
They named it
Dan, after their
forefather Dan, who was born to Israel—though the city was formerly named Laish.
And the whole congregation sent some to speak to the children of Benjamin that were in the rock
Rimmon, and to
call peaceably unto them.
Then the whole congregation sent a message of peace to the Benjamites who were at the rock of
Rimmon.
And she said unto them,
Call me not
Naomi,
call me
Mara: for the
Almighty hath dealt very bitterly with me.
“Do not
call me
Naomi,” she replied. “
Call me
Mara, because the
Almighty has dealt quite bitterly with me.
I went out full, and the LORD hath brought me home again empty: why then
call ye me
Naomi, seeing the LORD hath
testified against me, and the
Almighty hath
afflicted me?
I went away full, but the LORD has brought me back empty. Why
call me
Naomi? After all, the LORD has
testified against me, and the
Almighty has
afflicted me.”
And the women her neighbours gave it a name, saying, There is a son born to
Naomi; and they
called his name Obed: he is the father of
Jesse, the father of David.
The
neighbor women said, “A son has been born to
Naomi,” and they named him Obed. He became the father of
Jesse, the father of David.
Wherefore it came to pass, when the time was come about after
Hannah had conceived, that she bare a son, and
called his name Samuel, saying, Because I have asked him of the LORD.
So in the course of time,
Hannah conceived and gave birth to a son. She named him Samuel, saying, “Because I have asked for him from the LORD.”
That the LORD called Samuel: and he answered, Here am I.
Then the LORD called to Samuel, and he answered, “Here I am.”
And he ran unto
Eli, and said, Here am I; for thou
calledst me. And he said, I
called not; lie down again. And he went and lay down.
He ran to
Eli and said, “Here I am, for you have
called me.” “I did not
call,”
Eli replied. “Go back and lie down.” So he went and lay down.
And the LORD
called yet again, Samuel. And Samuel arose and went to
Eli, and said, Here am I; for thou
didst call me. And he answered, I
called not, my son; lie down again.
Once again the LORD
called, “Samuel!” So Samuel got up, went to
Eli, and said, “Here I am, for you have
called me.” “My son, I did not
call,”
Eli replied. “Go back and lie down.”
And the LORD
called Samuel again the third time. And he arose and went to
Eli, and said, Here am I; for thou
didst call me. And
Eli perceived that the LORD had
called the child.
Once again, for the third time, the LORD
called to Samuel. He got up, went to
Eli, and said, “Here I am, for you have
called me.” Then
Eli realized that it was the LORD who was
calling the boy.
Therefore
Eli said unto Samuel, Go, lie down: and it shall be, if he
call thee, that thou shalt say, Speak, LORD; for thy servant heareth. So Samuel went and lay down in his place.
“Go and lie down,” he said to Samuel, “and if He
calls you, say, ‘Speak, LORD, for Your servant is
listening.’” So Samuel went and lay down in his place.
And the LORD came, and stood, and called as at other times, Samuel, Samuel. Then Samuel answered, Speak; for thy servant heareth.
Then the LORD came and stood there,
calling as before, “Samuel! Samuel!” And Samuel answered, “Speak, for Your servant is
listening.”
Then
Eli called Samuel, and said, Samuel, my son. And he answered, Here am I.
but
Eli called to him and said, “Samuel, my son.” “Here I am,” answered Samuel.
They sent therefore and gathered all the lords of the Philistines unto them, and said, What shall we do with the ark of the God of Israel? And they answered, Let the ark of the God of Israel be carried about unto
Gath. And they carried the ark of the God of Israel about thither.
So they
called together all the rulers of the Philistines and asked, “What shall we do with the ark of the God of Israel?” “It must be moved to
Gath,” they replied. So they carried away the ark of the God of Israel.
And the Philistines
called for the priests and the diviners, saying, What shall we do to the ark of the LORD? tell us
wherewith we shall send it to his place.
the Philistines summoned the priests and diviners, saying, “What shall we do with the ark of the LORD? Tell us how to send it back to its place.”
Then Samuel took a stone, and set it between Mizpeh and Shen, and called the name of it Eben-ezer, saying, Hitherto hath the LORD helped us.
Afterward, Samuel took a stone and set it up between
Mizpah and Shen. He named it
Ebenezer, saying, “Thus far the LORD has helped us.”
(Formerly in Israel, a man on his way to inquire of God would say, “Come, let us go to the
seer.” For the prophet of
today was formerly
called the
seer.)
And they arose early: and it came to pass about the spring of the day, that Samuel called Saul to the top of the house, saying, Up, that I may send thee away. And Saul arose, and they went out both of them, he and Samuel, abroad.
They got up early in the morning, and just before
dawn Samuel
called to Saul on the roof, “Get ready, and I will send you on your way!” So Saul arose, and both he and Samuel went outside together.
And Samuel called the people together unto the LORD to Mizpeh;
After this, Samuel summoned the people to the LORD at
Mizpah Is it not wheat harvest to day? I will
call unto the LORD, and he shall send
thunder and rain; that ye may perceive and see that your wickedness is great, which ye have done in the sight of the LORD, in asking you a king.
Is it not the wheat harvest
today? I will
call on the LORD to send
thunder and rain, so that you will know and see what a great evil you have committed in the sight of the LORD by asking for a king.”
So Samuel
called unto the LORD; and the LORD sent
thunder and rain that day: and all the people greatly feared the LORD and Samuel.
So Samuel
called to the LORD, and on that day the LORD sent
thunder and rain. As a result, all the people greatly feared the LORD and Samuel.
And all Israel heard say that Saul had
smitten a garrison of the Philistines, and that Israel also was had in
abomination with the Philistines. And the people were
called together after Saul to
Gilgal.
And all Israel heard the news: “Saul has attacked an outpost of the Philistines, and now Israel has become a
stench to the Philistines!” Then the people were summoned to join Saul at
Gilgal.
And the men of the garrison answered
Jonathan and his armourbearer, and said, Come up to us, and we will
shew you a thing. And
Jonathan said unto his armourbearer, Come up after me: for the LORD hath delivered them into the hand of Israel.
So the men of the outpost
called out to
Jonathan and his
armor-bearer, “Come on up, and we will teach you a
lesson!” “Follow me,”
Jonathan told his
armor-bearer, “for the LORD has delivered them into the hand of Israel.”
Then said Saul unto the people that were with him, Number now, and see who is gone from us. And when they had numbered, behold,
Jonathan and his armourbearer were not there.
Saul said to the troops who were with him, “
Call the roll and see who has left us.” And when they had
called the roll, they saw that
Jonathan and his
armor-bearer were not there.
And
call Jesse to the sacrifice, and I will
shew thee what thou shalt do: and thou shalt
anoint unto me him whom I name unto thee.
Then
invite Jesse to the sacrifice, and I will show you what you are to do. You are to
anoint for Me the one I indicate.”
“In peace,” he replied. “I have come to sacrifice to the LORD.
Consecrate yourselves and come with me to the sacrifice.” Then he consecrated
Jesse and his sons and invited them to the sacrifice.
Then
Jesse called Abinadab, and made him pass before Samuel. And he said, Neither hath the LORD chosen this.
Then
Jesse called Abinadab and presented him to Samuel, who said, “The LORD has not chosen this one either.”
And when the words were heard which David spake, they
rehearsed them before Saul: and he sent for him.
Now David’s words were overheard and reported to Saul, who called for him.
And the
Philistine said to David, Come to me, and I will give thy flesh unto the fowls of the air, and to the beasts of the field.
“Come here,” he called to David, “and I will give your flesh to the birds of the air and the beasts of the field!”
And
Jonathan called David, and
Jonathan shewed him all those things. And
Jonathan brought David to Saul, and he was in his presence, as in times past.
So
Jonathan summoned David and told him all these things. Then
Jonathan brought David to Saul to serve him as he had before.
Then the king sent to
call Ahimelech the priest, the son of Ahitub, and all his father’s house, the priests that were in
Nob: and they came all of them to the king.
Then the king sent messengers to
summon Ahimelech the priest, the son of Ahitub, and his father’s whole family, who were priests at
Nob. And all of them came to the king.
And Saul
called all the people together to war, to go down to Keilah, to
besiege David and his men.
Then Saul summoned all his troops to go to war at Keilah and
besiege David and his men.
Wherefore Saul returned from pursuing after David, and went against the Philistines: therefore they called that place Sela-hammahlekoth.
So Saul broke off his pursuit of David and went to meet the Philistines. That is why that place is called Sela-hammahlekoth.
David also arose afterward, and went out of the cave, and
cried after Saul, saying, My lord the king. And when Saul looked behind him, David
stooped with his face to the earth, and bowed himself.
After that, David got up, went out of the cave, and called out to Saul, “My lord the king!” When Saul looked behind him, David bowed facedown in reverence
And it came to pass, when David had made an end of speaking these words unto Saul, that Saul said, Is this thy voice, my son David? And Saul lifted up his voice, and
wept.
When David had finished saying these things, Saul
called back, “Is that your voice, David my son?” Then Saul
wept aloud And David
cried to the people, and to
Abner the son of
Ner, saying, Answerest thou not,
Abner? Then
Abner answered and said, Who art thou that criest to the king?
And David
shouted to the troops and to
Abner son of
Ner, “Will you not answer me,
Abner?” “Who
calls to the king?”
Abner replied.
And Samuel said to Saul, Why hast thou disquieted me, to bring me up? And Saul answered, I am
sore distressed; for the Philistines make war against me, and God is departed from me, and answereth me no more, neither by prophets, nor by dreams: therefore I have
called thee, that thou mayest make known unto me what I shall do.
Then Samuel said to Saul, “Why have you disturbed me by bringing me up?” “I am deeply distressed,” replied Saul. “The Philistines are fighting against me, and God has turned away from me. He no longer answers me, either by prophets or by dreams. So I have called on you to tell me what to do.”
Then Achish called David, and said unto him, Surely, as the LORD liveth, thou hast been upright, and thy going out and thy coming in with me in the host is good in my sight: for I have not found evil in thee since the day of thy coming unto me unto this day: nevertheless the lords favour thee not.
So Achish summoned David and told him, “As surely as the LORD lives, you have been upright in my sight, and it seems right that you should march in and out with me in the army, because I have found no fault in you from the day you came to me until this day. But you have no favor in the sight of the leaders.
And David took all the flocks and the herds, which they
drave before those other cattle, and said, This is David’s
spoil.
And he recovered all the flocks and herds, which his men drove
ahead of the other
livestock,
calling out, “This is David’s
plunder!”
And when he looked behind him, he saw me, and called unto me. And I answered, Here am I.
When he turned around and saw me, he called out and I answered, ‘Here I am!’
And David
called one of the young men, and said, Go near, and fall upon him. And he
smote him that he died.
Then David summoned one of the young men and said, “Go,
execute him!” So the young man struck him down, and he died.
And they caught every one his fellow by the head, and thrust his sword in his fellow’s side; so they fell down together: wherefore that place was
called Helkath-hazzurim, which is in
Gibeon.
Then each man
grabbed his
opponent by the head and thrust his sword into his
opponent’s side, and they all fell together. So this place, which is in
Gibeon, is
called Helkath-hazzurim.
Then
Abner called to
Joab, and said, Shall the sword
devour for ever? knowest thou not that it will be bitterness in the latter end? how long shall it be then,
ere thou
bid the people return from following their brethren?
Then
Abner called out to
Joab: “Must the sword
devour forever? Do you not
realize that this will only end in bitterness? How long before you tell the troops to stop pursuing their brothers?”
So David dwelt in the fort, and
called it the city of David. And David built round about from
Millo and inward.
So David took up residence in the fortress and called it the City of David. He built it up all the way around, from the supporting terraces inward.
And David came to
Baal-perazim, and David
smote them there, and said, The LORD hath broken forth upon mine enemies before me, as the breach of waters. Therefore he
called the name of that place
Baal-perazim.
So David went to
Baal-perazim, where he defeated the Philistines and said, “Like a
bursting flood, the LORD has
burst out against my enemies before me.” So he
called that place
Baal-perazim.
And David arose, and went with all the people that were with him from Baale of Judah, to bring up from thence the ark of God, whose name is called by the name of the LORD of hosts that dwelleth between the cherubims.
And he and all his troops set out for Baale of Judah to bring up from there the ark of God, which is
called by the Name— the name of the LORD of Hosts, who is enthroned between the
cherubim that are on it.
And David was displeased, because the LORD had made a breach upon Uzzah: and he
called the name of the place
Perez-uzzah to this day.
Then David became
angry because the LORD had
burst forth against Uzzah; so he named that place
Perez-uzzah, as it is
called to this day.
And there was of the house of Saul a servant whose name was Ziba. And when they had called him unto David, the king said unto him, Art thou Ziba? And he said, Thy servant is he.
And there was a servant of Saul’s family named Ziba. They summoned him to David, and the king inquired, “Are you Ziba?” “I am your servant,” he replied.
Then the king
called to Ziba, Saul’s servant, and said unto him, I have given unto thy master’s son all that
pertained to Saul and to all his house.
Then the king summoned Saul’s servant Ziba and said to him, “I have given to your master’s grandson all that belonged to Saul and to all his house.
And when David had
called him, he did eat and drink before him; and he made him
drunk: and at even he went out to lie on his bed with the servants of his lord, but went not down to his house.
Then David invited Uriah to eat and drink with him, and he got Uriah
drunk. And in the evening Uriah went out to lie down on his
cot with his master’s servants, but he did not go home.
And David comforted Bath-
sheba his wife, and went in unto her, and lay with her: and she bare a son, and he
called his name Solomon: and the LORD loved him.
Then David comforted his wife Bathsheba, and he went to her and lay with her. So she gave birth to a son, and they named him Solomon. Now the LORD loved the child
And he sent by the hand of
Nathan the prophet; and he
called his name Jedidiah, because of the LORD.
and sent word through
Nathan the prophet to name him Jedidiah because the LORD loved him.
Now therefore gather the rest of the people together, and
encamp against the city, and take it: lest I take the city, and it be
called after my name.
Now, therefore,
assemble the rest of the troops, lay siege to the city, and capture it. Otherwise I will capture the city, and it will be named after me.”
Then he
called his servant that ministered unto him, and said, Put now this woman out from me, and
bolt the door after her.
Instead, he
called to his
attendant and said, “Throw this woman out and
bolt the door behind her!”
So
Joab came to the king, and told him: and when he had
called for
Absalom, he came to the king, and bowed himself on his face to the ground before the king: and the king
kissed Absalom.
So
Joab went and told the king, and David summoned
Absalom, who came to him and bowed facedown before him. Then the king
kissed Absalom.
And
Absalom rose up early, and stood beside the way of the gate: and it was so, that when any man that had a controversy came to the king for judgment, then
Absalom called unto him, and said, Of what city art thou? And he said, Thy servant is of one of the tribes of Israel.
He would get up early and stand beside the road leading to the city gate. Whenever
anyone had a
grievance to bring before the king for a decision,
Absalom would
call out and ask, “What city are you from?” And if he replied, “Your servant is from one of the tribes of Israel,”
And with
Absalom went two hundred men out of Jerusalem, that were
called; and they went in their simplicity, and they knew not any thing.
Two hundred men from Jerusalem accompanied
Absalom. They had been invited as guests and they went along innocently, for they knew nothing about the matter.
Then said
Absalom,
Call now Hushai the Archite also, and let us hear likewise what he saith.
Then
Absalom said, “
Summon Hushai the Archite as well, and let us hear what he too has to say.”
Now
Absalom in his lifetime had taken and reared up for himself a
pillar, which is in the king’s
dale: for he said, I have no son to keep my name in
remembrance: and he
called the
pillar after his own name: and it is
called unto this day,
Absalom’s place.
During his lifetime,
Absalom had set up for himself a
pillar in the King’s Valley, for he had said, “I have no son to preserve the memory of my name.” So he gave the
pillar his name, and to this day it is
called Absalom’s Monument.
And the
watchman cried, and told the king. And the king said, If he be alone, there is
tidings in his mouth. And he came
apace, and drew near.
So he
called out and told the king. “If he is alone,” the king replied, “he bears good news.” As the first
runner drew near,
And the
watchman saw another man running: and the
watchman called unto the porter, and said, Behold another man running alone. And the king said, He also bringeth
tidings.
the
watchman saw another man running, and he
called out to the gatekeeper, “Look! Another man is running alone!” “This one also brings good news,” said the king.
And
Ahimaaz called, and said unto the king, All is well. And he fell down to the earth upon his face before the king, and said, Blessed be the LORD thy God, which hath delivered up the men that lifted up their hand against my lord the king.
Then
Ahimaaz called out to the king, “All is well!” And he bowed facedown before the king. He continued, “Blessed be the LORD your God! He has delivered up the men who raised their hands against my lord the king.”
Then
cried a wise woman out of the city, Hear, hear; say, I pray you, unto
Joab, Come near
hither, that I may speak with thee.
a wise woman
called out from the city, “
Listen!
Listen! Please tell
Joab to come here so that I may speak with him.”
And the king
called the Gibeonites, and said unto them; (now the Gibeonites were not of the children of Israel, but of the
remnant of the
Amorites; and the children of Israel had
sworn unto them: and Saul sought to
slay them in his zeal to the children of Israel and Judah.)
At this, David summoned the Gibeonites and spoke to them. (Now the Gibeonites were not Israelites, but a
remnant of the
Amorites. The Israelites had taken an oath concerning them, but in his zeal for Israel and Judah, Saul had sought to kill them.)
I will call on the LORD, who is worthy to be praised: so shall I be saved from mine enemies.
I will call upon the LORD, who is worthy to be praised; so shall I be saved from my enemies.
In my distress I
called upon the LORD, and
cried to my God: and he did hear my voice out of his temple, and my cry did enter into his ears.
In my distress I
called upon the LORD; I
cried out to my God. And from His temple He heard my voice, and my cry for help reached His ears.
And Adonijah
slew sheep and oxen and fat cattle by the stone of Zoheleth, which is by En-rogel, and
called all his brethren the king’s sons, and all the men of Judah the king’s servants:
And Adonijah sacrificed sheep, oxen, and
fattened calves near the stone of Zoheleth, which is next to En-rogel. He invited all his royal brothers and all the men of Judah who were servants of the king.
But
Nathan the prophet, and Benaiah, and the mighty men, and Solomon his brother, he
called not.
But he did not
invite Nathan the prophet, Benaiah, the mighty men, or his brother Solomon.
And he hath slain oxen and fat cattle and sheep in abundance, and hath
called all the sons of the king, and
Abiathar the priest, and
Joab the captain of the host: but Solomon thy servant hath he not
called.
And he has sacrificed an abundance of oxen,
fattened calves, and sheep, and has invited all the other sons of the king, as well as
Abiathar the priest and
Joab the commander of the army. But he did not
invite your servant Solomon.
For he is gone down this day, and hath slain oxen and fat cattle and sheep in abundance, and hath
called all the king’s sons, and the captains of the host, and
Abiathar the priest; and, behold, they eat and drink before him, and say, God save king Adonijah.
For
today he has gone down and sacrificed an abundance of oxen,
fattened calves, and sheep, and has invited all the sons of the king, the commanders of the army, and
Abiathar the priest. And behold, they are eating and drinking before him, saying, ‘Long live King Adonijah!’
But me, even me thy servant, and
Zadok the priest, and Benaiah the son of Jehoiada, and thy servant Solomon, hath he not
called.
But me your servant he did not
invite, nor
Zadok the priest, nor Benaiah son of Jehoiada, nor your servant Solomon.
Then king David answered and said,
Call me Bath-
sheba. And she came into the king’s presence, and stood before the king.
Then King David said, “Call in Bathsheba for me.” So she came into the king’s presence and stood before him.
And king David said,
Call me
Zadok the priest, and
Nathan the prophet, and Benaiah the son of Jehoiada. And they came before the king.
Then King David said, “
Call in for me
Zadok the priest,
Nathan the prophet, and Benaiah son of Jehoiada.” So they came before the king.
And, behold, thou hast with thee Shimei the son of
Gera, a
Benjamite of Bahurim, which
cursed me with a
grievous curse in the day when I went to
Mahanaim: but he came down to meet me at Jordan, and I
sware to him by the LORD, saying, I will not put thee to death with the sword.
Keep an eye on Shimei the son of
Gera, the
Benjamite from Bahurim who is with you. He
called down bitter curses against me on the day I went to
Mahanaim, but when he came down to meet me at the Jordan, I
swore to him by the LORD: ‘I will never put you to the sword.’
And the king sent and
called for Shimei, and said unto him, Build thee an house in Jerusalem, and dwell there, and go not forth thence any
whither.
Then the king summoned Shimei and said to him, “Build a house for
yourself in Jerusalem and live there, but do not go
anywhere else.
And the king sent and
called for Shimei, and said unto him, Did I not make thee to
swear by the LORD, and
protested unto thee, saying, Know for a certain, on the day thou goest out, and walkest abroad any
whither, that thou shalt surely die? and thou saidst unto me, The word that I have heard is good.
the king summoned Shimei and said to him, “Did I not make you
swear by the LORD and
warn you, ‘On the day you leave and go elsewhere, know for sure that you will die’? And you told me, ‘The sentence is fair; I will
comply.’
And he set up the pillars in the
porch of the temple: and he set up the right
pillar, and
called the name thereof
Jachin: and he set up the left
pillar, and he
called the name thereof Boaz.
Thus he set up the pillars at the
portico of the temple. The
pillar to the south he named
Jachin, and the
pillar to the north he named Boaz.
Hear thou in heaven thy dwelling place, and do according to all that the stranger calleth to thee for: that all people of the earth may know thy name, to fear thee, as do thy people Israel; and that they may know that this house, which I have builded, is called by thy name.
then may You hear from heaven, Your dwelling place, and do according to all for which the foreigner calls to You. Then all the peoples of the earth will know Your name and fear You, as do Your people Israel, and they will know that this house I have built is called by Your Name.
That thine eyes may be open unto the
supplication of thy servant, and unto the
supplication of thy people Israel, to
hearken unto them in all that they
call for unto thee.
May Your eyes be open to the pleas of Your servant and of Your people Israel, and may You
listen to them whenever they
call to You.
And he said, What cities are these which thou hast given me, my brother? And he
called them the land of
Cabul unto this day.
“What are these towns you have given me, my brother?” asked
Hiram, and he
called them the Land of
Cabul, as they are
called to this day.
That they sent and
called him. And
Jeroboam and all the congregation of Israel came, and spake unto
Rehoboam, saying,
So they sent for
Jeroboam, and he and the whole assembly of Israel came to
Rehoboam and said,
And it came to pass, when all Israel heard that
Jeroboam was come again, that they sent and
called him unto the congregation, and made him king over all Israel: there was none that followed the house of David, but the tribe of Judah only.
When all Israel heard that
Jeroboam had returned, they summoned him to the assembly and made him king over all Israel. Only the tribe of Judah followed the house of David.
And he bought the hill Samaria of Shemer for two talents of silver, and built on the hill, and called the name of the city which he built, after the name of Shemer, owner of the hill, Samaria.
He bought the hill of Samaria from Shemer for two talents of silver and built a city there, calling it Samaria after the name of Shemer, who had owned the hill.
So he arose and went to Zarephath. And when he came to the gate of the city, behold, the widow woman was there gathering of sticks: and he
called to her, and said,
Fetch me, I pray thee, a little water in a vessel, that I may drink.
So
Elijah got up and went to Zarephath. When he arrived at the city gate, there was a widow gathering sticks.
Elijah called to her and said, “Please bring me a little water in a cup, so that I may drink.”
And as she was going to
fetch it, he
called to her, and said, Bring me, I pray thee, a
morsel of bread in thine hand.
And as she was going to get it, he called to her and said, “Please bring me a piece of bread.”
